The proper pronunciation is *LOO-mos*, stress on 'Lu' as both Herimone300 & augureycry tells... and the pronuciation SCREAM, HarryPotter99 & Baby_phoenix used is correct I believe. So is a conjunction of everything told

"Thank you," Professor Phoenix said, nodding towards the students. "The proper incantation is indeed Lumos."

She tapped the board with her wand and a new graph appeared.

"You are tracing the outlines of a moon crescent in the air," Professor Phoenix explained, demonstrating by doing so with her own wand. "And then you add the incantation. Lumos."

At the tip of her wand, a tiny bright light started shining. Professor Phoenix smiled at her students. "Your turn. When you have managed, prod your Devil's Snare with your shining wand and see what the reaction is."

::Riley takes out her wand and concentrates.::

"lumos" She says, tracing the moon crescent in the air. A dim light appears at the tip of her wand, not quite as bright as the proffessor's. She points it at her plant anyway and watches as it seems to actually shrink in on itself, letting off a sort of shrieking sound.

"Sounds kinda like my sister whenever someone comes into her room..."

*takes out wand and traces the cresant moon in the air*
LUmus!
*smiles as a bright light appears at the end of her wand*
*gently prods the devils snare and watched as the plant shrinks away from the light*

Arkee flexed her fingers and picked up her wand. "Lumos," she said, tracing the crescent moon as perscribed, and gave a satisfied grin at the light that emerged from the tip of her wand.

"Alright, Mr. D. Snare, I don't like you and you don't like me. Let's see who's the first to bend to the other's will!" She purposefully poked at a tendril, and chuckled mock-evilly as the plant retreated within itself as if burned.

Mission completed, Arkee wondered about the sign that was used for the inflamare incatation. Apparently it was a theta. Having studied a bit of the Greek language and knowing the alphabet quite well, she wondered if the professor hadn't meant it was a lower-case upside-down delta. Either that or it was a different kind of theta.

Lumos *she says tracing the cresent in front of her as a small white light shoots from the top*
cool! I did it! *she then prods her devil's snare and it shrinks into the pot*

Ashlie nodded. "LUmos!" she says, tracing a crecent moon shape surprised at how the orb of silver light appears on her first try. Prodding the Deivl's Snare, the plant shrank away. She felt bad for doing so to it.

::The light at the end of Riley's wand abruptly goes out and the devil's snare tentacles begin to slink towards her. There is definitley something sinister in the way it is creeping.::

"Oh no, I think I made it mad!" Riley says, jumping away from the table. The devil's snare takes the sugar quill Riley had left near her parchment and snaps it in two menacingly.

"Hey! That's mine!." Riley says angrily, taking the attack on her beloved sugar quill as a personal affront. She snatches the snapped quill from the plant and wrenches her hand away from it's reaches. It continues to snatch at the air and she whips out her wand.

"Lumos!" a light erupts from the end of her wand and the Devil's Snare grudgingly moves out of the ring of light, hissing in anger.

"Yeah, that's what I thought! humph." Riley says, balling her fist around the broken sugar quill. "Jerk. These cost money you know!"

* begins to think of what he did wrong

Ashlie looks over at Riley with a look of bemusement on her face. "Seems that he doesn't much like you, does he?" she asked.

Getting bored, Ashlie lights her wand again, and nears her Devil's Snare with it. He begins to shrink back agian, but she smiles. "Don't be scared, I won't hurt you with it." She shrugs and the plant just sits in it's place, seeing confused, if possible.

Jess sticks her wand close to the devil's snare as it grabs the end, she then says lumos and it jerks back into its pot away from the light as she gives a small laugh and does it again.

"Of course he doesn't like me- he want's to eat me! And my quills... She looks at the plant with her eyes narrowed... I don't care much for your sweet tooth you know..."

"Lumos!" she says after tracing the moon crescent in the air with her wand.

Her wand lights up, "On the first try! Go me!"

She puts her wand closer to her Devil's Snare and it shrinks away back away from the light.

*Alex traces a cresant in the air and repeats the incantation*

* a blue flame apears on her wand and the devils snare nearby shrivels in responce.*

::She looks at her plant and then finds herself trying the spell::

Allie traces a moon in the air with her wand, and after a few tries adds the incantation.
"Lumous" she said.
"Oh, wait. That's not right... Lumous."
A light appeared at the tip of her wand.
"Wow, that's so cool." She said as she turned to her Devil's Snare and pointed the light at it.

Lisa practices the wand movements several times, then feeling confident pulls her wand out of her pocket and turns to her Devil's Snare.

"Lumos" she says and a light appears at the tip of her wand. She cautiously approaches her Devil's Snare and prods it. The plant shrinks away from the light and shrivels up

"Cool"

tracing a crescent moon with her wand and saying "Lumos" gets a bright light at the tip of her wand and pokes her plant as it shrinks away "whoa" she says under her breath

*Traces crecent moon and says "Lumos!" And her wand lits immediately. She shoves it at the Devil's Snare which cowers in fear... Nadia feels some pity for the plant...

Raises hand, "OK, I don't like the Devil Snare, I'm afraid of it and I'm not ashamed of telling, but do we need to torture them so - I mean, they are *babies*, aren't they? I'm starting to feel bad for the lil devil... OK, maybe they kill you, but it's their nature, it isn't like there was something they can do to help it."

Nadia retrieves her wand, still lit.

"I do believe we should study them and care for them even if they provide no utility," says seeing the Devil's Snare in a different new light. "I still think it's dangerous, specially to work with them in here... Maybe we should have learned it along with the DADA professor, right? Do a mix-class like we did with professor Hendrik last year... I think it was already asked but; can we consider Devil's Snare a dark plants, professor?"

Looks down at her wand --

"Oh! Nox!"

With that the wand light turns off.
