"Yeah, and lethifolds are repelled by good feelings, patronuses, wouldn't that make them dark? "
Yes! Thank you! that was what I tried to say!

Hermione_loves_ROn; if dark isn't the same as evil, what's then?

Wayfarer 03-19-2004 03:43 AM

"According to JK Rowling werewolves and centunar are half humans. That old Umbridge lady tried to make all half human register. It's in the history Order of the Phoenix."

FnG_rawkMYxworld 03-19-2004 03:43 AM

"exactly.."

*Katie finishes taking notes and waits for a new topic quietly.*

Continues taking notes.

FnG_rawkMYxworld 03-19-2004 03:44 AM

dark is worse than evil.

Sakura_kura 03-19-2004 03:44 AM

"Well I was reffering to Centars. But I think Werewolfs should be considered human, because they don't want to be werewolves, obviously. And they are actual humans most of the time. They just have a 'defect' like if someone lost there arm they'd have a 'defect' but they'd still be human"

"Says who? Dark just contains the potential to do bad. Evil is someone who does bad things without guilt, mercilessly.

"Well, no, I meant that misunderstanding is the evil we commit to these creatures, we don't actually force them into being what we want them to be."

"Yeah, I mean, as humans we often consider ourselves above other species. I mean, we will actually tell you that we are the smartest beings on the planet. We automatically consider that our beliefs about a creature should go unquestioned, that if it attacks us it is dark, when most of the time that cresture is merely doing what it considers instinct."

Sakura_kura 03-19-2004 03:45 AM

"Thats true I agree with "Hermonie_Loves_Ron"

FnG_rawkMYxworld 03-19-2004 03:46 AM

"But the fact still remains that a good part of their life is spent as an animal." Katie says.
"I'm not calling them dark or evil, Im just saying that they shouldnt be classified as pure human."

BOO!
huh? what are you doing here professor?

Cassirin 03-19-2004 03:47 AM

"Please... let's not get off topic. I'm hearing lots of good questions, and I wish that our class wasn't moving so quickly that I am not able to get to them before we veer off onto another interesting tangent. I think you're beginning to get the picture about what I meant when I said there is a very fine line between Dark and acceptable.

"As for the issue of vampires and werewolves, no, I do NOT think that they are dark all the time. But there is a dark magic that works within them at certain times. A werewolf would be the first to tell you that there is an intent to harm and spread the "disease" that comes out on the full moon. They are not intrinsically Dark, but the magic is there. The Ministry chooses to classify them as Dark... who am I to argue?" The professor shrugged good naturedly.

"I realize also that there are creatures not on the list that you believe should be there. This really is a better question to be bringing to Professor Hendrik in your Care of Magical Creatures class... what is it in their survival needs that might cause them to act in a way that brings harm to Muggles and wizards?

"Now... I'd like to give you your homework assignment. If you have any questions that went unanswered, I will be around for a while after class, and I would love to discuss with you. We had a very short class today, but I feel that we covered what was needed. Things should slow down a bit for our next classes.

"By next class, I want you to owl me (email me ONLY, no PMs) with a paragraph about what you know already about the Dark Arts. A paragraph should have between 8 to 12 sentences. I would also like any topics or concepts you would like covered in one of our classes.

"Class dismissed."

FnG_rawkMYxworld 03-19-2004 03:47 AM

lol!

dttfminb 03-19-2004 03:47 AM

I think it would be interesting to have a conversation with a centaur, until it starts to dislike me.

quidditch_chick 03-19-2004 03:47 AM

"Professor? Isn't there a creature called Nundu? Isn't it rather dark and/or evil? Or is it one of those that may seem evil, but its not?"

Sakura_kura 03-19-2004 03:48 AM

"Well now that i hear all these opinions, I'm starting to think of somthing else. Maybe each individual should choose how they want to be clasiffied, I mean it's their body, and there problem, so shouldn't it be their moral choice?"

TrickC 03-19-2004 03:49 AM

since class is over i jsut want to say i love your avatar professor!

FnG_rawkMYxworld 03-19-2004 03:49 AM

(have you posted you email yet professor?)

Wayfarer 03-19-2004 03:49 AM

A werewolf is suffering from an illness that isn't Dark. Werewolves, I think are included in the study of DADA mainly because other wizards don't want to become one. It's an infection, in some way just like a cold but of that can't cured at this moment. The Wolfbane potion has gone a long way into improving the lives of werewolves.

Hermione_loves_Ron 03-19-2004 03:49 AM

"Everything has the potential to be evil," Ashlie said to them all. "You can force anything to be evil, it all depends on how you use it. Spells. Creatures. People. We all can be good or evil. But we with intelligence must also choose."

Miss Radcliffe the Pirate 03-19-2004 03:49 AM

Gets up, having learned alot this lesson. "Thank you professor, see you next class." Chelsea walks out the door and leaves.

dttfminb 03-19-2004 03:49 AM

I think one of the problems we have with centaurs is that we, humans, are sometimes to full of ourselves to be told we are wrong by a creature not of our species. Some people take it as an insult; so then they dislike the centaurs and might say something rude to them.

Sakura_kura 03-19-2004 03:50 AM

Proffessor, is it true we will get points for handing in homework? and do you know when the next class will be? is it weekly? because i can't get here every night so if i could know a while a head...."
