| | Professor Rae unlocks her classroom door and sighs. She really disliked having to lock the door, preferring to leave the classroom open for the students to practice in. However, she was uncomfortable leaving it open with so many strangers about. She entered the classroom and shuffled a few papers around before settling behind her desk. |

Why would they avoid a similar group of beings?"

"They were being classified and judged. They were also getting killed off for fear of being dangerous."

Actually they think the stronger is the one to rule, so all tiny people are not to be resopected. It's a different beliefs... So they don't *avoid*, more like they like living their life the way they want, I guess

I think they stay away from Muggles and Humans because the a re judged upon how they look and what they do and never what is on the inside. Humans never understand why Giants do some of the things they do.

Oh! *eagerly* I remember hearing once that they killed each other. Like it's their nature. Like they don't just *don't like wizards* or another being, but more like they are - no - their nature makes them kill whatever is one their way. Again, the shorter you are the less you are respected in their community, they are violent towards them, plus the wizards and other creatures kill them as well because of the danger they are to whoever is near them, secluding the giants and making them stay together, contrary to their nature, making they kill each other each time faster...

*listens and notes thinks* That's right... wizards tend to be a threat to them so they have to hide from us.

| Made of Awesome | Ern-la the Best-wa | TZ's Apogee "I think it is safe to say that the giants weren't feeling judged and misunderstood so much as they were seeking protection. Wizards were very frightened of giants... and who wouldn't be considering their size, strength, and blood-lust? Giants are very violent in many ways. Their response to anger, fear, confusion, etc. is to kill, maim, or at least fight. Wizards fought back in the only way they knew how, and seriuosly depleted the gianting population at the same time."
"I'm not pointing fingers here, saying one is right or wrong, because there are centuries of skirmishes between the two kinds. However, the giants were quite deadly to Wizards, and they still are."
"Hypothetically, if you encounter a giant, what would be the best action to take?"

Hogwarts RPG Name: Currently: Diane Entelequia Second Year | Quote: I think they like magic as longe as its not used against them Too true. Remember that they like gifts which are most surely magical, like a branch of Gubraithian fire (OotP). So, yes, Merman is right, they do like magic which is harmless to them.
Oh, something else *raise hand* Regarding your other question, professor; I heard of a community of giants living not on mountains exactly but on valleys, surrounded my mountains most probably to hide them and they enourmous bodies from view, specially from muggles.

Put your wand away and show them you're unarmed, I'd think. *considers it* And maybe offer them something, to show you mean them no harm.

Yes, Zellanna is right! ( *wink wink* :sorcerer: ) You hide your wand first and then put the gift to the Gurg of the giants' feet - that's to say the biggest and chief of giants in the community - and you should also explain yourself. You can tell that it's a gift, that you mean no harm and let it know who are you. Prossibly some giant from the tribe will know your language and will translate it for you. There's another ways you can get to speak to giants but this look like the traditional & proper way.

| Made of Awesome | Ern-la the Best-wa | TZ's Apogee "Good suggestions. Take note of these... running away is always sound. Don't be ashamed of leaving if it is your best chance at surviving. Trying to placate and not provoke the giant is also a good plan, but it helps to be familiar with their culture. Knowing how much a giant dislikes complications will go a long was in keeping you from frustrating him or her. Gifts of magic are an excellent suggestion as well... just be sure your wand is well away and that your magic is showy but not dangerous. Giants are afraid of being attacked by magic, and with good reason. I would say any gift is a good way to go. For example, I know an auror with a particular singing talent who sang for a giant in order to keep her safety. I wouldn't recommend that, though, unless you DO have a sweet voice."
"You are correct, Nadia. Let me clarify that by living in the mountains, I was really referring to the safety of seclusion. Often, the low valleys between mountains are ideal for giants."

Are there wizards who have tried to learn how to communicate with them without a translator?

| Made of Awesome | Ern-la the Best-wa | TZ's Apogee "Good question, Zellana. There are wizards and witches who are quite good at speaking the giant language, just as there are those who speak Mermish and Gobbledygook. Of course, the giant language is hard to master, as it uses sounds and pitches that are not natural to humans."
"Now, I would like to move us on to the next part of the lesson... the practical portion. Are there any questions?"

| Made of Awesome | Ern-la the Best-wa | TZ's Apogee "I wouldn't say they would automatically kill you, Merman," Professor Rae suggested. "However, their fuse would be shorter and their temper would flare greater and more dangerously than if you encountered another wizard. And no," she added with a small smile, "giants do not really eat people."
