Transfiguration Lesson 1: An Unusually Stony October Day Sunlight streamed through the windows of the Transfiguration classroom on the morning of October 10. The beams illuminated the desks arranged in their usual neat rows, all facing the front of the room and the blackboard sitting primly behind the teacher's desk. A familiar wooden table had been pushed up against the wall on the far side of the room, bearing two stacks of pumpkins and other assorted objects. The objects were a wide range of random things that Professor Grimsbane had picked up since the end of last term: balloons carefully weighed down in many colors, small Halloween decorations such as rubber bats that really flew, and a variety of balls that were commonly used in Muggle sports. Across the classroom from this table, one of the desks was backed up against the wall and sported a tea pot, cups, and all of the necessary fixings for a good cup of tea. The professor herself was steadily making her way through a stack of essays for marking, complete with many winces and facial expressions that she certainly wouldn't want students to see. As soon as her watch stated that it was 10 minutes until class was scheduled to begin, Celestia flicked her wand at the classroom door -- which promptly flew open with its usual, loud BANG! OOC: Welcome to Transfiguration! Class has started! Don't forget that even though this is our first OOC lesson of the term, the kids have been having lessons with Celestia since September IC. Please read the Transfiguration rules thread before posting. Feel free to jump in at any time; simply pretend that your student has been there the whole time to avoid IC consequences for lateness! :) Also feel free to contact me at any time if you have any questions, concerns, etc. Lesson Progression: Greetings and Question 1 Lecture and Mini Activity Instructions Question 2 Main Activity Instructions |
Ronan had gotten used to the banging open of the door, so it didn't bother him at all. Though, he did still wonder why she did it. It wasn't like anyone was sleeping out here in the corridor while waiting for class to open up or anything. Anyway, he stood straight up from where he had been leaning his back against the wall, picked up his bag, and entered the classroom, where he chose a seat towards the middle and sat. His bag he hung from the back of his chair. "Morning, Professor Grimsbane." Wait, where those.....? "We're not using those pumpkins in class, are we?" Allergic, here. The (eventual) Halloween decorations featuring them would be easy enough to avoid, thankfully. But a class lesson featuring them? Let's just say the last time a professor had tried it, it hadn't ended so well. |
Daehyun had been just arriving when the door flew open with a loud BANG! He should have gotten used to it by now, as professor Grimsbane seemed to have little to no consideration for the doors and his poor heart, but it still frightened him and made him jump, startled by the sudden move. As soon as he stepped inside and spotted the items around the room, however, he smiled for the first time that day. He'd had a slow morning, the attraction force of his bed stronger than ever and, to avoid having to run to the class or, Merlin forbid, being late, he'd opted to skip brushing his hair, only running his fingers through it in what he thought looked decent, except for the back of his head, where a few strands still defied gravity. His tie was just hanging around his neck, but he supposed he had a few spare minutes to tie that into a neat knot before class started. So, pumpkins, huh? With Halloween nearing, he was excited. Unless they'd be transfiguring their own heads into pumpkins - he still shivered at the memory of the Pompion potion they'd brewed last year - he was fine with it. He didn't see any living animals around, so all was good. "Good morning, professor," he said, forcing his sleepy features into a small smile, before dropping his bag next to the nearest desk in the front. He proceeded to take out his writing supplies, and now on to that tie. Had to get it fixed. |
Quinn entered in her usual fashion, silent and without so much as a greet to anyone already here, including the Professor. Don't take it, personally, she rarely volunteers a greeting to anyone that isn't a House Elf. Greetings invited engagement, which Quinn generally wished to avoid unless she herself deemed otherwise. And as usual, her eyes never stopped moving, roving from students to Professor to tables full of objects and back again, questioning, seeking, and answering as she made her way to the very middle of the classroom and took a seat. She took a moment to remove her quill, ink, and some parchment from her bag, took out her wand, and finally returned to studying every detail she deemed important as she waited for class to start. |
After all of last term and the past month or so of this one, the banging of the door to the Transfiguration classroom hardly bothered Stasya at all. Instead, she’d merely slipped the book she’d been reading out in the corridor back into her bag and headed inside. One of these days, she figured they might need to ask Professor Grimsbane for help regarding Team Animagus, but for now she was confident enough in the research at least three of them had been doing. It wasn’t like it was completely impossible for them to maybe figure it all out on their own. Historically some students had accomplished it, so she was okay with keeping it between them for now. There had been a bit of wariness upon entering, but as soon as she saw the lack of cages inside, she had relaxed. Half the objects were Halloween-oriented even, and Halloween was fun. She still needed to figure out her costume, but that wasn’t related to the subject at hand. She wasn’t about to try and transfigure a costume. Plus, she wondered if the professor knew it was her birthday. She couldn’t remember if she’d gone to the party Bel had had for her birthday last term. Either way, the newly-turned fifteen-year-old had given the professor a smile as she took her usual seat. “Good morning, Professor Grimsbane.” Could Ronan not even be in the same room as a pumpkin? |
Daisy entered the classroom and greeted Professor Grimsbane with a "Good morning, Professor Grimsbane." She then made her way to a desk in the middle of the classroom and began to get ready for the lesson by taking out her self-inking quill, parchment and wand and placing them on her desk in front of her. Her curiosity was slightly peaked by the array of objects being displayed in the classroom. |
You know what was sad? There was a time when Jessa Cambridge would dart down the corridor at the risk of an asthma attack to get to Transfiguration early. Now, she still tried to be on time but it was more a courtesy than a desire to get there as quickly as possible. It was just hard to get enthused when you'd already learned it all. That was perhaps the only downside to having raced through the syllabus the way she had. With every class now nothing more than repetition and revision, the Ravenclaw was hardly enthused to show up. Of course, Prefects were allowed to skip classes--regular students weren't allowed to skip either but it was especially true of the Prefects--so she continued going and tried her hardest not to tune out for most of it. If this continued she would go brain dead. The under-stimulation was real. Idly she considered asking the Professors for a little...er....more. Some sort of challenge. Professor Hirsch had already offered her some such opportunity and it was proving useful when it came to Defense Against the Dark Arts. It might have been best to ask the others for the same..... Huh. There was a thought. "Hello Professor." She greeted, her voice as dull as it'd been since the second week of school when the excitement and the anxiety and any sort of feeling toward being back at school had died. Without another word, she took her seat and turned her attention to the window. Perhaps if she zoned out long enough, the lesson would be over. |
Another day another lesson in which Derf's theoretical knowledge of the subject sorely outweighed his practical application. Though the Hufflepuff had long come to accept this about himself, so rather than struggle and fight with himself and was focusing more on understanding his wand core and how a ferreting wizard like himself may be able to form a proper constructive relationship with his wand. Or at least a better one. So he slipped into the Transfiguration classroom with a sheepish smile and only waved to the professor rather than any sort of verbal greeting. He sorta had other things on his mind right now, you know? Quote:

Dorian had realised something this year. So far, he had been on time in every class. Perhaps it was that he finally started to understand the castle and its shortcuts ....or maybe he just left for class ten minutes earlier to be on time... Anyway, the twelve year old was pretty impressed with himself and he felt so again when he entered the Transfiguration classroom at least 5 minutes before the classroom door would BANG open. Something that the third year still jumped about despite it happening many times. It was so unexpected and he did not like unexpected things! "Hello Professor" he greeted the moment he entered the room and walked to somewhere in the middle to find a seat. |
The kitchen incident was behind them now, but if Quinn brought it up there was no telling what Beth would do. No, no there was. Absolutely nothing, so, that was how she ended up debating whether or not to let her lion-friend about the state his hair was in, or to just…find a seat. ”Hey Yoon” she waved over to the boy before messy-haired brunette, really, it looked like a team of mice had done his hair for him that morning. Turning her attention to Professor Grimsbane she just smiled, ”Hello Professor,” her eyes scanned the objects, ”I like what you’ve done with the place…its, festive?” Beth shrugged smiling none the less. |
Bel wasn't exactly a pro at the classes that required her to use her wand, but she always tried as hard as she could. She noticed all the decorations and whatnot straight away, and then also the tea. There was always food and/or drink in every class, Bel noticed, it was kind of amazing that the students weren't all twice the size. "Hello professor." Bel greeted and then found an empty seat, with space on either side. Stasya got a wave and a mouthed 'happy birthday' too. |
Rylee never seemed bother by the loud bang of the door opening should she arrive at the class room early enough for that to happen. Sure it gave her a start but it always made her laugh. That wasn't going to be the case though this morning and she knew it. If she was lucky she would be making it to the Transfiguration room with just a few minutes to spare. Slipping into the room, Rylee took notices of the pumpkins around the room and smiled to herself. It was almost Halloween! "Good morning, Professor," she greeted with her usual warm smile. Stasya got a bright smile as well, Rylee made a mental note to find her after the lesson was over to give her the birthday gift she had made for her. Spotting Dorian, Rylee heading right over and slipped down into the seat beside him. "Morning, Declan," she grinned winking at him. Quickly pulling her parchment, quill and textbook from her bag she laid them out on her desk neatly. |

"Morning, Rosie" He grinned back. "What do you think we'll be learning today?" he asked as he placed his bag under his chair. |
At the sound of the door opening with a bang, which she found really irritating and unnecessary btw, Rhea kicked off the wall that she'd been leaning on and followed the other students inside. "'Morning, Professor," she said with a quick nod, before heading straight for one of the middle seats on the left hand side of the classroom. She then got out her parchment, quill and textbook, and dumped her bag by the side of her desk. And waited for the lesson to begin. |
To his peeps and Prof! Reese managed to make it to Transfiguration on time.. Although just barely.. Of course Quinnie and Bethlebee were there sitting and already chatting.. AND Rylee had already made it as well.. " Heloo, Professor.. Yikes!.. Need any help with those papers, Ma'am? he asked.. He wasn't even trying to be sarcastic as he normally would be... HE really wondered how sad his classmates' papers were.. He knew his was in good order.. HIs assignments were always on point.. And then once done speaking with their teacher he made his way over to his two friends.. He hoped his sister would understand.. Quinn and Beth were his partners in crime!.. Rylee was his bestest friend and he didn't want her to be getting into trouble too... Should he and his cohorts were ever discovered in a messy situation.. He'd be sure to catch up with her after class and see if she wanted to go exploring with him later. " Schmebby", he said with a grin as he sat down.." Bethels.. ", he added as he greeted them.. |
Stopping to stare as the sun illuminated the room, he couldn't help but admire the strange assortment of objects that Professor Grimsbane has acquired. Instantly, his eyes were drawn towards the assortment of muggle balls, hoping that there was a football there. Not a normal football, but one of those egg shaped ones from America. "Hi Professor Grimsbane! Are we going to be using these balls this lesson?". Almost as if in eager anticipation, he hurried forward, eager to start the lesson. Spotting the red hair of Rylee at the front, he walked over to her and greeted, a friendly smile across his face "Hey Rylee!. Lowering himself down into the seat next to her, he leaned forward to look around her at his fellow Ravenclaw. He'd honestly on met him a few times, his only real memory stretching as far back as the opening feast! Putting that memory behind him, he greeted him in what he'd hoped was a friendly manor Hi Dorian! How are you?. |
First thing how was in already October 10th? This term was already moving to fast for her. She didn’t like it at all. But at least she was heading to Transfiguration now. Which was one of her favorite subjects so of course she was excited about it. She headed into the classroom ”Good Morning, Professor Grimsbane.” She also noted the pumpkins and the halloween decorations. Maybe they were going to decorate the room for Halloween. She looked around the class before taking a seat next to Bel. ”Do you think we are decorting for Halloween today or something?” She asked as she started getting her things out of her bag that she would need for the lesson. |
Kye did her best to stand a certain distance away from the door to Transfiguration. The sheer volume of noise that came out when the door was forced open... Why Professor Grimsbane... WHY? Standing a bit down the hall, she heard the BANG of the door and began making her way to the room. Today Kye was sleepy. Today was one of those days where she felt like she should've picked her bed over class. She was one headache away from calling it quits today. Yet, somehow, she was here. She greeted the Professor with a smile and the usual, "Good morning, Professor" before finding her way to a seat in the middle. Were her feet dragging? Likely. No offense Professor. She flopped herself in a seat and waited for the next BANG. She heaved a sigh. What she wouldn't give to go back to bed with an oversized mug of hot chocolate. |
Reese Quinn watched as Beth find a seat equally distant between herself and Daniel with grand interest. Beth was feeling stretched between them, but it was hardly her fault Daniel was so intimidated by her. And then that voice, and nickname. She bit her lower lip harder than usual to stop the infernal smile wanting to creep on her face. Not this time. No, she was determined to stay annoyed at him for calling her passion rubbish in History of Magic, but moreso for storming off after they had both, seemingly, said their pieces. She was not about to let herself smile... And then she smiled. Merlin! Once she got control again, she folded her arms and pursed her lips in annoyance. |
Zarina made her way to Transfiguration, she figured she might as well make an attempt to go to one lesson for the year. She didn't do mornings but her mother had a talk with her. She needed to least make an effort to go to classes. She rolled her eyes and wrote her letter back saying she promised. This snake never broke her promises. As she made her way to the classroom and rubbing the sleepiness out of her eyes, she noticed the classroom was filled. It seemed like other students were up before her. Eww why? As Zae surveyed the room and found her seat, she noticed the professor was here. She nodded and said, "Good morning.." She turned away after giving the professor a warm smile and walked away to plop down in her seat. She wondered with all the halloween decorations would they be doing something halloween related? If so she was totally down. |
By the time Olivia arrived, there was already a flock of students waiting by the Transfiguration classroom's door. A few seconds passed and the usual loud BANG came. The little Ravenclaw still needs more time to get used to Professor Grimsbane's unnecessary habit. She followed the prompt students inside, plopped herself on her usual seat and took out the things she needed from her bag. She then hoisted it, at the back of her chair. "Good morning, Professor." she gave her a smile despite the door banging. Noting the decorations inside the classroom, it seemed like the Professor was a little excited about the upcoming Halloween. |
Space on her other side too ^_^ Quote:
Would Bel ever not be put in an instant good mood when people choose to sit next to her? Probably not, and she liked Juni very much. The older girl was always fun when they had hung out and Bel was eager to keep their friendship building. So she was all smiles as Juniper sat down. "Oh, I dunno. That stuff is still kind of a novelty to me, so it sounds fun." really, the whole Halloween thing? Wasn't so present back home. Even the pumpkins in Australia were different, and definitely didn't look right for carving. |
Ari had heard the loud BANG of the Transfiguration classroom door all the way down from the other end of the corridor, and she knew she was right on time. With her school bag swinging from her shoulders, Ari approached the classroom and poked her head in first, as always, before the rest of her body followed suit. Wow, the classroom sure looked festival today, with the pumpkins and the balloons... Ari was not particularly looking forward to the weather becoming colder, but she could always appreciate a bit of spookiness and fun on Halloween. "Good morning." Ari greeted the Professor before squeezing her way through the aisle of chairs. She plopped down in her usual seat and waited for class to begin. |
For all the classes that Abra was terrible at, there were still some he excelled in, and one of those was Transfiguration. It was true that the theory side was something he really fell short in, and that that had absolutely started to affect his understanding of the practical side, but as long as he had a little support in this particular class, he could do reasonably well in it. Seeing as whatever lesson he had was one of the bigger factors in what mood he was in, Abra was in decent spirits as he entered the Transfiguration classroom. He took a quick look around at the decorations and then took the first available seat near the door (subconsciously; it was a quick way out if necessary), smiling politely towards the professor up at the front of the room. "Good morning, Professor." Oh... were those homework essays up on her desk? ... Yikes. Abra's smile slid off of his face while he slumped down slightly in his seat, suddenly avoiding eye contact. If his was up there, he didn't want to know. |
Another day, another Transfiguration lesson. Though the presence of many pumpkins on the far table, not to mention other assorted objects there with them, showed a clear difference in this particular class. Septimus couldn’t help but wonder just what they would be learning and doing this time around. Probably something concerning All Hallows Eve for sure. Pumpkins and bats and all spoke of that holiday. But on the other hand, other items he could see didn’t so who knew which direction it was going. He’d just have to wait and see. “Good morning Professor,” he greeted as he made his way to a seat. He noticed the tea set up but chose to bypass it. Breakfast hadn’t been too far off. |
