 The door to a mysterious door opens to reveal a dank and dusty room, which shows more than obvious signs that it has been vacant for years. Black sheets cover the furniture. Cobwebs fill every nook, cranny, and everything in between -- including a cup filled with wooden potion stirrers. The heavy scent of mildew permeates every aspect of the room as jet-black candles emit blue flames and an old record player screeches in the corner.
For the most part, this is where the majority of the ghosts that haunt the school gather when they want to avoid the living that run about the floors above. What they do here isn't really any of your business. Some of the ghosts that float about this room will remind you of that if they catch you invading their private space. If you're lucky, though, maybe the day you step inside this room is when Sir Nicholas is hosting his Deathday Party, a celebration that he most certainly will encourage you to stick around for. If that day is not today, you had better have a good excuse for being here.

He was finally going to go in.
Daehyun had eyed the mysterious door in the basement ever since the beginning of his first year, but he'd always been too nervous to try it out, so he did the next best thing and the thing he was best at - he observed. He'd found himself around that corridor more often than he should have, especially since it was nowhere near the Gryffindor tower, nor did he have that many Potion classes to have an excuse to go down there every other day.
One unusual thing he'd noticed, not too often, mind you, that only ghosts floated through the door and walls, which made him even more curious about what was hiding in there. So, standing in front of the door, his fingers ghosting over the handle, he tried it out slowly, and found it to be unlocked.
Unlocked doors meant he wasn't breaking any school rules, right?
Lightly pushing the door open, he sneaked inside the dusty room, and was quite unimpressed when nothing attacked him upon arrival as he'd always imagined. Cobwebs were visible in the little blue light emitted by the candles, and the black sheets covered in a heavy layer of dust were giving him the heebie-jeebies, and was that... music he was hearing?
"Hello?" Anybody there?
... why did he feel like he was digging his own grave? |

It wasn't often that Ewan would purposely follow another student but he did today. Spotting the first year Gryffindor walking towards the lower floors with an air of... someone who didn't want to be followed, he had to follow. It was almost as if he'd invited him with his posture and sneakiness. Following now, a few steps behind, he watched closely as he continued to decent further and further down. Stopping further back, he froze as a ghost flitted past him, through a wall. Okaaaaaaaay, this was getting strange. Creepy. Squinting slghtly now, he crept closer to see what the boy was doing. Holding his breath as his hand closed around the door, he watched in amazement. What was this kid doing!? Going in there! He had to do something before he went in!
Heeeey! KID! What are you doing going in there? You got a death wish or something?".

There were times when he felt eyes on him, closely watching his every move. Sometimes he was right, other times he was only being paranoid... but he couldn't shake the feeling that someone was watching him. Maybe a ghost had spotted him? Was he not supposed to be there? Or - he prayed it wasn't the case - maybe Peeves had found his next target?
Only one foot had made it inside the mysterious room, when he nearly jumped out of his skin as a vaguely familiar voice shouted. Clutching his chest, where his heart seemed intent on breaking out of his ribcage with the speed it was beating with, he turned to face the Ravenclaw boy with a frown. "Kid? I'm older than you." He knew he'd seen him at this year's sorting ceremony.
With that out of the way, frown replaced by a grin, he said, "I'm exploring. C'mon in if you want, no one's going to die." Hopefully. | |

Watching the boy jump had been amusing despite the current situation. "You may be older than me, but even I know coming down here is a bit of a silly idea kid". Walking towards him now, curiosity getting the better of him, he stepped around the Gryffiondor to peek into the room. With cobwebs covering the walls and white sheets covering... furniture? Bodies? The gateway to hell? He was not overly eager to enter.
"So uh... my names Ewan by the way! First year Ravenclaw and teller of amazing jokes. Well, you know, you saw me in action in the laundry room". Turning to the boy now, he grinned at him as memories of his previous jokes flooded back. With several jokes already forming a cue in his head, he turned back to the room. Maybe going in wouldn't be so bad. He could use some of his jokes.

Could he stop calling him kid? Sure, he was still waiting for his long overdue growth spurt, and okay, he was a scaredy cat despite the fact that he'd been sorted into Gryffindor, of all houses - though he still hoped, prayed that the Sorting Hat had a good reason to do so - but he was thirteen. Didn't that count as a teenager? Pre-teenager?
"Psh," he couldn't help but huff at Ewan's comment as he glimpsed inside the sinister room warily. "The door wasn't locked, so clearly there's no reason why we shouldn't be here." Right? Unless someone had forgotten to lock it. Although he'd only spent one year at Hogwarts, he'd learned very early that the castle was most certainly not to be underestimated.
As the boy introduced himself, he turned to look at him with a slight nod of his head. "I'm Daniel," he said, snickering at the memory of Ewan's grandpa laundry jokes. He'll give him that. "Second year Gryffindor, and terribly bad teller of jokes." Maybe he could learn a thing or two from the younger Ravenclaw.
Now that introductions were out of the way, he stepped inside the much darker room, before turning to Ewan. "You coming?" | |

Taking a second to consider his comment about the door, he gave a little nod. "I uh.. guess?. He honestly wasn't sure. It sounded like good logic but...what if it was always left open and people just knew not to go in? Aha, what's the worst that could happen.
With a huge grin; he knew Daniel remembered his jokes;"Nice to meet you Daniel. Dan? Danny? Danno? Dizzle? Danger Dan? D-Dog?". Bursting out laughing now, okay so maybe not 'D-DOG' but he couldn't keep saying Daniel. He had to shorten it to something even if it was just 'D'. "Sorry!" apologising now to the Gryffindor. "Don't worry, I'll stop now".
Turning back to the task at hand, as if by a way of answering his question, he strode into the room. And, subsequently, straight into a cobweb. "Ugh.. I wonder why the house elves haven't cleaned this room?", unsure if he'd really want the answer.

Mouth wide open, eyes just as wide, Daehyun could only stare and blink at the Ravenclaw boy. "Do I look like a-" Dizzle? Danger Dan?! Incredulously, he firmly shook his head at all suggestions. "Daniel, please." He probably wanted a nickname, but no. Only his mother was allowed to call him Hyunnie, and there was no way Ewan would ever know that, so no. No nicknames for him.
Watching Ewan walk into a cobweb, he wondered if he was confident enough to cast a Scourgify at the boy, but maybe it wasn't such a good idea just yet. He still needed to work on his wandwork to freely point his wand at people's faces and not break said faces.
"Looks like no one's using it anymore..." he trailed off, carefully picking one of the sheets covering a sofa, and peeking underneath, before scrunching his nose at the cloud of dust that rose, and let it fall back. Then, his eyes flitted back to the burning candles he'd spotted earlier. "Those, though..." he nodded at said candles, "They were probably charmed and forgotten, by the looks of it." His face suddenly brightened as an idea hit him. "We could totally clean this place and turn it into a secret hideout!" Ahh how nice it would be to have his own hideout to read in complete silence. Well, almost, if he found a way to stop the soft music from playing. As much as he loved background music, that was unnerved him. | |

A wide smile across his face, he gave the boy a little wink. He didn't think he looked like any of those names but sometimes, a little humour helped brake the ice. You know? And honestly, you'd need to have a sense of humour to hang around with him. Not mentioning any name *cough* B *cough*.
Watching carefully Daniel now, his senses working overtime, he couldn't help but think that, despite his tone and some of his facial expressions, the boy was sort of brave. I mean, walking in here alone, poking around under the white sheets too, definitely brave.
"That would be supeeeeeeer cool! Although it would take a fair bit to clean up and...well the ghosts may not be happy. I suppose, we could maybe ask? if we see one anyway". Turning his head now to better examine all of he room, he couldn't help but notice the putrid smell of mildew that filled the room. Almost wistfully now, he thought back to the clean smell of the laundry room.

Daehyun could only shake his head in amusement, the corners of his lips tugging them into a smile. The Ravenclaw was definitely a handful but, he supposed, fun to have around. He grinned when Ewan seemed to be as enthusiastic about his idea as he was, and cleaning would be the least of their worries. Even if without magic, he wouldn't mind scrubbing the place clean. Such places irked him, with clouds of dust rising with each step they took - not to mention the smell.
But it was something else the younger boy had said that caught his attention. "Ghosts?" he echoed dumbly. Why would they disagree with them using that room? Was it... "Do you know something I don't?" Like, was that room, by any chance... already taken? | |

Oops. He didn't mean to scare the older Gryffindor. At least, not this time.
"No, No, I don't know anything. Although, isn't this room like, some kind of ghost club? I mean, I why they'd need a door I don't know but still...".
Waving his hand in the air now as if he could wave away Daniels fears, he continued "I'm sure they wouldn't mind anyway". He didn't know that but he wanted to explore for a little longer before they left. "Besides, i'll just tell them a joke if they catch us".
Grinning now, he continued exploring the room. Sheesh, if ghosts did live here, you'd think it would be clean. If he ever decided to haunt this earth when he died, he'd make sure he spent his time somewhere, nice, clean.... Like a beach or something. Pulling a sheet that covered a 2 seater sofa. Looking at it briefly, he jumped onto it, landing sideways in a relaxed sort of pose, a nuclear cloud of dust poofing around him. *Cough* *chortle* *cough* | |

... ghost club?! As in, was that the room where the Headless Hunt Club had their meetings? Or could it be... He's always heard of Sir Nicholas's deathday party, even last Halloween he thought he'd heard some students mentioning it- His eyes widening, he gasped. "Oh, no- this must be- is this where Sir Nicholas hosts his-"
Never mind that. The strong cloud of dust had reached his nostrils and tickled to the point he could no longer hold it in, and sneezed a couple of times, before noticing Ewan, who...
... he did not just dump himself on a sofa covered in years worth of dust like a sack of potatoes.
Tugging the collar of his sweater over his nose, he didn't know if he should scold Ewan, or first make sure he wouldn't choke to death on that insane amount of dust. He supposed he would have to focus on the latter, to be able to scold the boy later. Pointing his wand in Ewan's direction, sending a silent prayer to Merlin that it would work or, at least help a little bit, he uttered a muffled "Scourgify!" from underneath his sweater, and watched the dust around the boy vanish.
Now, onto the scolding. "Don't jump like that in here." | |

Turning his head now, he couldn't help but notice the dust disheartening in mid air. Ewan eyed the boy for a second before finally speaking,
"Why? I was just curious how comfy it was". A blank expression across his face now, he really didn't see the harm. Sitting up now, he dusted himself off and stood up.
"You should try it sometime. Be spontaneous. Take a leap of faith!" . His blank look turning into a grin, he pointed to the a white dust sheet that had the outline of a chair.

Take a leap of faith, he could. Be spontaneous, he should. But one thing he wasn't going to do was do what Ewan was hinting at, if the chair covered in a sheet and a heavy layer of dust that he pointed at was anything to go by. He was definitely not going to jump on it and develop a dust allergy. Shaking his head, his eyes flitted instead across the room, where a screeching record player was situated, and scurried over to it.
"Come take a look at this," he urged Ewan with a grin, his undying curiosity kicking in and taking over. The record player looked as old as the castle itself, though he doubted they had such things back then. "Who do you think left this on? Clearly not a ghost..." Which meant someone else must have been there! But what he didn't know was if that someone had been there recently or, for all he knew, that thing could have been playing for days, weeks, months, years. | |

Seeing the defiance in his face, he let the subject drop. He didn't mind that the Daniel didn't do it but he was determined to make him face his fears. He wanted to help.
Walking over to the old record player, an inquisitive gleam in his eyes, he couldn't help but notice the layer of dust on this too. "It really could have been here for ages. I mean, no ghost put it on. But..." stopping for a second now, not wanting to scare the boy more, he couldn't help it. He had to tell him his fears. "What if it was Peeves? I mean...Poltergeists can affect things, right?" . Peeves was not someone he wanted to mess with.
He couldn't help but side eye the door now. It's always important to know where the exit was when in times of an emergency.

"Peeves, you say? Huh..." He was probably unaffected by the comment because he'd never actually confronted the poltergeist - thankfully their paths hadn't crossed in the one year he'd spent at Hogwarts. Besides, only to avoid feeding his neverending fears, he liked to believe that Peeves wasn't as bad as people said. "I think they can... I just hope the Bloody Baron is around, too, then." Since the poltergeist only seemed to listen to the Slytherin house ghost.
In his peripheral vision, he couldn't help but notice Ewan eye the door. One corner of his mouth lifted in a barely contained smile. "Are you... scared?" Or should he be, too, at the prospect of having Peeves around? | |

"Me? Scared? No. Just, smart. If you're going to investigate something, you should always know where the exit is", his inner Ravenclaw showing itself now. As if to back up what he was saying, he rearranged his face into a calm, polite smile. There was no need to be scared. Yet.
Having not actually met either Peeves or the Baron, he would prefer to meet neither. After all, he wasn't sure if they were supposed to be down here. "So...uh what were you actually looking for here? I mean, what did you hope to achieve?". He knew Gryffindors were a brave bunch but were they brave for the sake of it?

"Fine, fine." He supposed he could let it slide this one time, since it had been quite reckless of him to venture off into unknown rooms where he had only seen ghosts wander in and out. And it was Hogwarts, after all. The place with an infinite number of secrets and dangerous things, too.
As for Ewan's next question... "I-err-" He supposed he found why he hadn't been sorted into Ravenclaw.
"... I haven't thought things that far," he concluded, pretending to be interested in the old record player as he crouched in front of it, only to avoid a possible smug look on the younger boy's face. "Thought it'd be more interesting." Turning back to look at Ewan, he said, "Want to get out of here?" | |

"What? No, I didn't call you stupid!" a pink tinge in his cheeks now. He'd only meant that...it's important to know where the exit is. In case they need to make a quick escape!
"Don't worry, I'm sure we can find sooooomething interesting to do! I've heard that there's a few secret passage ways around the castle? Or a room that only shows up at certain times! Maybe we could... go on an adventure!".
Standing up, his full height on show, he brandished an invisible sword, as thought he were a pirate, in the air; A wide grin on his face.

Secret passageways? It did sound tempting... and he had spent his first year at Hogwarts trying to unravel such secrets... unsuccessfully, though. But it was the last thing that Ewan mentioned that made his eyes brighten up. "The Room of Requirement!" Only the ghosts and portraits knew how much he and Shera had stupidly patted random walls around the castle in the search for it.
"Except... I have no idea where to start looking for it." Unless Ewan knew something that he didn't? Maybe Ravenclaws were talking about it in the common room that he could have overheard. "But yeah, let's go. Might as well give it a try," he said, snorting at Ewan's antics and his invisible sword as he made his way towards the exit. | |

The what? pausing for a second, Ewan rewound back what he'd heard one day in the library. He'd never meant to ease drop on their conversation, but once he'd heart magic room. He was hooked. This name certainly fitted the description of the room that they'd described. "I'm not sure what it's called, but I over heard some sixth year stuents mentioning something about a magic room. It..." hesitating for a moment before he got it right, "Only appears when someone really needs the toilet? Or uh... has a great need. Like the toilet". Those boys had seemed pretty stupid, but they seemed pretty set on something about a toilet. That couldn't be it. His Ravenclaw intuition was tingling. Something was wrong about that. "Do, you know anything about it?" Pulling their information together, he was sure that they could find the room! Sheathing his invisible sword, he grinned back at Daniel, the look of excitement across his face.

Sir Nicholas was in a merry mood today. He bobbed back and forth, humming a little time to himself, when suddenly... He heard voices, and not those of the Baron, Alfred, or dear Lady Helena. How strange! It wasn't often that people visited this part of the castle.
The ghost glided in the direction of the sound and soon came upon young Daniel and a Ravenclaw student (Ewan) he did not recognize. "Hello, gentlemen!" he greeted, smiling as he bowed to the pair. "What brings you here on this fine day?"
He turned to the Ravenclaw boy. "I don't believe I've yet had the pleasure of making your acquaintance. I am Sir Nicholas DeMimsy-orpington. What's your name?'

Daehyun was shaking his head at the whole idea of a mystery loo that Ewan was talking about, when suddenly a ghost appeared. And, thank Merlin, it was one that he knew to be friendly. "Sir Nicholas, hello!" he smiled, bowing his head in greeting.
What brought them over there? Undying curiosity? "We were-err-exploring? I-I hope we're not intruding... are we?" He didn't even think his house ghost would stray so far, so it has never occurred to him that it may be a secret hideout for the ghosts. The amount of dust and cobwebs surely explained it. | |

Having never actually seen someone being nearly headless, it took a lot for Ewan to hold back his natural curiosity. Instead, he chose the polite answer.
“Hi Sir, I’m Ewan. I’m a first year Ravenclaw”, Adopting the tone of voice he’d often use with a Professor. “I’m sorry if we disturbed you, only, we were just exploring the castle. I’ve never actually been down here and Daniel was nice enough to give me a small tour”.
Hoping that this excuse would be good enough, he looked around the room, ready for another ghost to appear. Atleast Nick was a friendly one.
