Text Cut: Tryouts Top Post

It's time for the Ravenclaw team to build on that team spirit, discuss what went right and wrong in the last game and most importantly; figure out how to win the next game to finally lift that Quidditch Cup.

The Ravenclaw captain; Kirk Forsfelle (Charely Potter), will guide you through this practice.

ooc: Welcome to the Ravenclaw Practice! This is for IC reference only, for you guys to have FUN! Please note that this is not the first IC practice of the term.

Kirk gave the younger Chloe a thumbs up when she gave the okay on her status. Bruises were one thing, but being able to continue on as if nothing happened was a major plus to him. He was standing there (not counting the dodges and swings he had to do) quite impressed with the work put in. Tryouts weren't even over yet and they were acting like a team. Rhea whacked one towards Jessa who caught it and then sank in a nice shot. Juni was heading towards one with her bat at the ready before... score! Oh, well look at that shot Ewan made. Trinetta then scored one in along with the two Chloes. Ooh and a nice shot from Septimus as well. As Keeper it was a struggle to have him not fly up there too, but he had to see their best game before it came time for practice.

"Nice! Alright, keep it going!" Kirk's voice was still magnified as he called out, "Aspiring Seekers, I'm gonna release the snitch now so keep on at it until you spot it. Once you grab it you can let it go for a minute before going after it again as many times. Chasers can keep scoring, and Beaters can choose to keep scoring with the bats or go back to just whacking the balls away from yourself and others." Yep it was really on now.

Kirk gave them a few moments to recollect themselves after that sudden announcement before- after whacking another rogue ball out of his way- unlocking the space where the golden snitch resided. He barely blinked before it was out of his sight.

OOC: Part 5! Flying good guys! Chasers will still be doing the same, but now Seekers can go after the snitch as many times as they choose. Beaters can revert back to just hitting the balls away or they can keep scoring with the bat. You're more than welcome to switch it up the position you play as well. It's all good. Any other claws are still welcome to jump in, just don't forget to fill out the survey here and act as if you've been here all along before May 18th.

She'd just managed to get her hands on another ball--no more confident with the shot than she'd been with the last one despite it actually going in--when she heard the faint but distinct whizzing noise go by her.

It was the snitch.

Jessa made no moves to go after it, instead, she remained hovering where she was, calculating the angle she'd have to throw the ball at and the amount of force that would need to be behind that throw in order to successfully get in a second shot. While she sat there, she also internally debated whether or not she would even go for that snitch again. Seeking was a big responsibility. It wasn't easy catching the snitch but literally your only job for the entire game was to locate it and hopefully lead your team to victory in the event both sides had equally formidable Chasers.

It sounded like the perfect way to have her anxiety spiking before each match. Just the thought that that snitch could make so much of a difference was slightly nerve wracking so yeah, she was gonna sit here and see if anyone else was going after the snitch before making that decision herself.

If there was someone obviously better than there really was no need to jeopardize the team by trying out for that roll herself.

Blue eyes scanned the field, keeping and then losing sight of the snitch as it zipped about....just in case....but other than that, she remained where she was--minus that swerve just now to avoid a rogue ball plummeting right for her.

Hearing the captain she stopped int he air to listen, this was what she was waiting for, this was her time! She took off after it, but a ball came flying at her, dodging it she lost sight of the snitch. Moving to a corner she watched and watched. She would find it again, this was her job, she had done lessons with Uncle Alec and played on her team the last few summers. She was born for this position and she knew it.

There it was again!!!

Spotting it Chloe took to a dive and raced towards it, reaching out she clutched it in her fingers and pulled it to her.

"YES!!!"

A little celebration flying was in order before she released it and looked around. She'd give it a moment to disappear and then she'd look for it again.

No luck that time but he wasn’t giving up.

That bludger would return and there was the other and no time like the present to go after both once more. Septimus flew out of the way of the hoops as other potential team members went for their own shot, a close call that final time as he had gotten distracted looking for a target. Pay attention! That was the one thing the second year had already figured out in this try-out. The most important skill, other than not falling off your broom was being completely aware of your surroundings at all times. Finally spotting a bludger, he went after it.

*THWACK*

He Had just hit it when the amplified voice of the elder Ravenclaw had reached his ears. Septimus was almost tempted to switch directions and go after the snitch. Could he do it? Could he find and catch the elusive bait? The bludger batted away from Kirk came near him gaining his attention and making the decision for him. Nope…he was staying after those rogue thingamajigs instead of snitches he decided as he moved off again. Keep them away from others…like Chloe…who were.

Stopping now, he listened again. Aha, the Snitch! Despite the size of the ball, Ewan couldn’t help but follow it with his eyes, mesmerised by its beauty.

*Whack!!!*

In the minute or so that he’d followed the snitch, he’d stopped paying attention to the bludgers. Losing sight for a second, he jumped as one sped past his vision, almost making him fall off his broom!

Giving his head the tiniest of shakes, he focused. His eyes following the retreating bludger.

"Get back here bludger!!", he shouted, leaning forward now to chase after it.

Snitch was really out? Chloe paused too, noticing absently that everyone seemed to have stopped and held their breath until it disappeared. FOCUS, KETTLEBURN. "CAW CAW," she made some wild eagle cackle noise (sure, sure, Chloe) and dived after the falling ball she'd been following moments ago.

It was much closer to the ground now, and she had to come uncomfortably close to the ground before finally snatching it up and pressing it against her chest. She was going to score again, and much better this time. Maybe she'd even manage to impress Captain Kirk... or not.

Nettie perked up when she heard Kirk exclaim that he was going to release the snitch next. YES! The moment she had been waiting for. She turned to Chloe, who had announced earlier that she was going for Seeker too, and grinned at her. "Good luck!" she called with a wink before turning back to Kirk. She watched as he released the snitch, and then WHOOSH - it was gone.

Immediately, she took off towards the direction she had seen it going. It had whizzed away quickly, but it had gone towards the north end of the pitch - so that was where she headed. Her eyes scanned the lower end of the pitch, then scanned upwards - she had a system that she had used playing in her youth league.

Sure enough, a few moments after she had begun her methodical scanning, she spotted it fluttering past one of the goal hoops. She leaned down and ZOOOOOMED towards it, barely blinking so she kept it in her sights. She grinned as she zoomed faster and faster (this school broom was making REALLY good time!) when it made a sharp turn towards the sky - she gripped the handle hard, slammed on the breaks and then made a quick turn so she was moving upwards.

Her hand outstretched, she accelerated, going nearly vertical now - until she felt her fingers wrap around the cool gold casing of the snitch. YESSSS! She pumped her fist in the air triumphantly and then released the snitch again. She watched as it fluttered away, and she stopped to catch her breath. Maybe she'd let Chloe get this one...be a good teammate and all...

Nah. She'd just take a moment and then go after it again. Hehehe. Sorry not sorry - Quidditch was serious business!

Seeing Nettie go after the snitch after she had already didn't bother her, she kept looking around and watched as she waited for it to be released, it was good to be patient when you were a seeker and even though Chloe wasn't all that patient on the ground she was in the air. Sitting perched on her broom she watched the balls and dodged a few that came close.

Seeing Ewan get it she cringed, but giggled, "Karma is always fun." laughing and of course joking with him she was glad he was okay. Her eyes turned to watch some of the others going after the balls to score, but then she saw something fluttering ahead.

Yes! That was it!

Zooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooommmmmmmmmmmm mmmmm

She was gone and headed towards it with as much speed as she could muster. Her eyes only scanning a few times to see where Nettie was and the other balls before she put full focus on the small ball trying to get away. It went up and so did she, reaching her hand out she took a quick turn to the right as the ball did before grabbing hold of it.

"Caught another one!!!"

She couldn't help feeling like she was doing a great job!

Keep going! Yeah she could definitely do that. She was finally getting back into the swing of things. Hahaha the swing, get it. Anyway now with the snitch on the loose needless to say that there were plenty of people who were trying out for seeker and they had their eyes out for the tiny golden ball. This was the perfect time to get some real beater practice in. While most of the others were keeping their eyes peeled on the snitch, or trying to score Juni would be keeping her eyes on them. Protecting them from the balls that were flying around.

This also let Juni see what was going on, seeker wise. There were so many trying out for seeker. Also beaters which meant she was really going to have to step up her game. The fifth year flew around watching out for the others, and balls that could likely interfere with what they were doing. There little Chloe was heading off after the snitch.

Nearby her whether or not the younger girl knew it a rouge ball was in line with her. Juni sped up to catch up. From the stands it might have looked like she had caught a glance of the snitch herself. But no. She raised her swinging arm as she caught up to the ball.

*WHACK*

She hit the ball away from Chloe and the snitch. She watched the ball soar down to the other end of the pitch. Smiling to herself she turned back again to see if Chloe had caught the snitch. Flying over toward her she flew by the first year. ”Nice catch.” She grinned and zoomed off again. She was feeling pretty good now. No dropped bats today.

When Kirk shouted out new instructions, Rhea'd just managed to get a fifth shot (in a row) through the hoops. It was good going considering the number of balls in play at the time. And now they were adding the Snitch to the mix. She quickly decided whether she wanted to keep practising hitting the balls through the hoops or whether she wanted to hit the balls away from people some more. Content with the amount of hoops she'd scored, she decided to go with the latter.

As soon as the Snitch was released, Rhea shot forward after a fake!bludger until she was close enough to land a solid hit. Which she did. Well. The ball went flying through the air away from the younger Chloe who'd just flown past. It was hard to keep track of everything and everyone up here, what with all the added balls. And before she knew it, another ball was heading in her direction.

*WHACK!*

She hit it away just as easily as she had the first.

Look at that, look at that! The older girls were hitting balls away from her while she went after the snitch. They all got a big grin from her and in her head shew as already thinking of all the fun friend things they could do together. She was going to learn so much from them and look how pretty they were, this was so exciting!

Being so excited she wasn't paying attention much and almost fell off her broom, but caught herself just in time to dodge a ball coming at her. As she dodged the ball she noticed a flutter and took off, giving a look she saw the ball take off and she was quick to respond.

Taking a dive as the fluttering wings did as well she flew as fast she could grabbing it and pulling up before hitting the ground. "This is so fun!"

Chloe safe because of fellow beater triers, Septimus went back to simply handling the bludgers in general. Keeping them away from anyone that came near both him and the balls. That would be what he would need to do during gameplay anyway. IF he made the team that is. As the second year flew, he had no way of judging how he was being judged though he couldn’t help but notice the other Ravenclaws were really…really good. Coming near his latest target, he waited until he thought he had the best shot and swung.

Thwaaaa

It wasn’t a definitive hit, but he had caught even a piece of it. He supposed he couldn’t always do it right. But he wasn’t going to let that get him down but rather continue to give his all. Septimus dove to avoid collision with another flier after a glittering before catching sight of a bludger bouncing back into the vicinity. He guided his borrowed broom in the right direction and prepared to try again. Come on…come on. Closer and closer he flew towards the trajectory of the rogue ball until he finally gripped the bat in his hand and took another swing.

THWACK!

Alright, so this was where everyone got to fully decide on their most desired position. Looks like Jessa was keeping to Chaser position as she looked fairly concentrated on her surroundings. She looked interested in the snitch but seemed to be more in tune with dodging the charmed balls instead.

Okay. The younger Chloe went straight for the snitch not stopping until she caught it at least once before letting it go. She got a thumbs up from Kirk for that grab. Septimus had his bat at the ready and was keeping his swings on point. Ewan caught Kirk's eyes again as he nearly took a hit, and seemed determined to go after the rogue ball. Lots of Beater hopefuls, he deduced. This would be a interesting set up. After he dodged another ball, Kirk heard a familiar call, oh it was Chloe. She seemed to channel in her inner eagle to scoop up the ball just before it could reach the ground, she also got a thumbs up from him as she passed.

Looks like Chloe wasn't the only seeker, Trinetta was also next. Smaller players tend to be better Seekers, from not just notes mentioned but from Kirk's observation. This one seemed to be pulling in all the tricks to make sure the snitch didn't outsmart her maneuvers annnd she got it. Kirk made a fist in a yes gesture at the sight. Chloe ended up catching another one soon after.

Juni and Rhea appeared to taken on the protective role as they flew towards the aspiring Seekers but only to redirect the balls heading towards them. Even Septimus was rejoining them in the ball redirections.

Kirk watched them all work in between his dodging. This was quite splendid. He would have a whole head of work planned once the team was fully formed. Alas though, the time to watch was over as he took his whistle to blow (right after dispelling the magnified voice).

*TWEEET*

"Excellent guys! That'll be it for the day." Kirk called out, before he aimed his wand to cast ending the incantation on the flying charmed balls. "You all did brilliant. While not all will make the team and some may not be in their desired position, don't let that stop you though from playing the sport." Seriously, they pretty much proved their worth. "Keep a look out on the notice board where you'll see who made the cut and all." That about covered it, yeah. "Until then, peace." Yep, Captain Kirk was out... as soon as he finished clearing up the pitch. Captain's duties and all.

It was practice time for the team as Captain Kirk made his way toward the pitch. They had a huge match ahead of them and this was definitely the time to keep their skills up to brush beforehand. Despite their current streak he wasn't letting the chance of slacking off hit them.

After parking his broom onto the middle of the area, Kirk awaited for his teammates to arrive.

Rhea jogged down to the pitch in her gear, new bat in hand - a late Christmas gift from her mum - to meet the team for practise. But when she got there she was surprised to see that only Kirk was there. Was she early? Were the others late?

Whatever. Didn't really matter.

She nodded to Kirk and offered him a smile. "Captain."

Juni headed go toward the pitch, she was napping in the common room after a long day for studying in the library. So it was hard to imagine why she had been napping in the first place. She had been out for a run the first thing that morning. That only lethargy earlier in the day. Man, would she be so happy once OWLs were over. She would definitely feel more human and zombiesh.

Anyway after her nap she felt much better and walked down to the pitch with a bit of pep in her step. Broom and bat swung over her shoulders. As she got closer to the group on the pitch she was surprised to see that just Kirk and Rhea were there. ”Hey Captain! Hey Rhea!” She grinned at them and sat her broom and bat on the ground. She wouldn’t be needing them for a while. Stretching and waiting on the others would come first. Now was everyone else?

Chloe had her very own broom now, and had since right after she made the team, and she was slow to make it to the pitch since she had to carry the broom carefully in front of her with both hands. Not like flying was remotely careful, but damaging her broom in the air was allowed. Damaging it just walking around was stupid.

She waved her elbows, much like a chicken flapping its wings. "HELLO TO THE PITCH." Hello to the captain and hello to the Rhea and hello to the roommate Juni. "Let's go work off breakfast. Sir."

Practice…practice…practice.

They had to get all ready in hopes of improving themselves. The last two matches had been neck and neck but it had also been two losses for Ravenclaw. It was a tad disappointing though Septimus had to admit that he was having fun just to be playing. But he also wasn’t going to give up and certainly not letting his team down. So he was there, down on the pitch all ready, in time for the latest practice.

“Hey guys!” he greeted Captain Kirk and the teammates already there. All of them older than his 12 years making him the youngest there. Just a little intimidating but whatever. The rest would be showing up themselves soon anyway...right?

Hey she was here and she was ready! "I need snitches, like five at a time so I don't miss anymore." She was still upset over missing the last snitch and losing to Slytherin. She wanted her team to be proud of her and she wanted to be the best Seeker they had, so she was determined to practice more.

Jumping on her broom not even thinking that maybe the captain wanted to say a few things she was off into the air, doing some laps she finally realized she was the only one up in the air and quickly came back down.

"Oh sorry"

Moving quickly towards Rhea, that was a safe place, yes that or by older Chloe.
