 With the growing interest in learning how to cast various defensive spells outside of class time, Professor Hirsch has sectioned off another room just for this practice. A room not linked with any sort of class spells going on and a more guarded room than some of the others, save for his own office, of course.
This well lit, circular room is scarce of anything remotely normal for a normal classroom: meaning that you won't find any desks or chairs here. Instead, the room has been split up into a number of different sections where you can practice in the peace and privacy that the Dueling Arena doesn't provide. Want to practice in groups? The sections can expand to fit however many people you want to practice with. A number of dummies - surprised? - sits towards the back of the room, ready for you to practice your spells on. These could take the form of whatever you need it to be but be warned: they will NOT have the same effect. A dementor!dummy won't suck out your soul.
From time to time, Hirsch will hold practices in here in small groups outside of class hours. If you'd like to join in, you're more than welcome to. If not, be polite and try not to disturb anyone else practising in here. If you want to practice on your own here, you're welcome to do so. Just make sure to fix anything you break, okay?
OOC: Sooo this thread is a thread in which Hirsch/I will be holding out-of-class classes for those wishing to learn something extra. This room is free for people to RP around in if they wanted to do some practice in a more private environment ^^ | |

So it was official; the snotty Head Boy was just showing off now and Skylar Diggory was tired of it. Which meant extra practice time in the PRIVATE practice room to concentrate on her patronus because there was no way she wanted to do it publicly in the training room where the seventh year captain could be humiliated over the fact that she couldn't even cast a patronus.
She had happy memories. She did. But what was stopping her from this advanced magic? She was even growing more comfortable with non-verbals.
Stretccchhh!!!
Because maybe trying to be loose and relaxed was key to concentrating? Maybe going to Paris wasn't strong enough? Maybe receiving notification of quidditch's return and the captain badge wasn't enough? Maybe being rescued in her fourth year from a frozen tundra by her first love wasn't enough? Or Paris for her birthday and receiving a promise ring? Maybe... maybe ... maybe... and yet all those things ... she felt truly happy. Could something be blocking the happiness then?
Focus. I can do this. She reminded herself, yet somehow not feeling all that confident in her thoughts.
"Expecto Patronum!"
And as per usual, meek whisps came from her wand.

It was actually quite amusing that this was bothering her so much.

It was actually quite amusing that this was bothering her so much. What!? Skylar turned around slowly at the sound of a voice she definitely recognized, having been in classes with him for years now. Deep breath. The captain closed her eyes and opened them. "I doubt it." because to be frank, she had zero happy memories with him unless it was taking on Stewart's injustice. Also there was the fact that he was making her super anxious too by the fact that she couldn't cast a patronus.
So really it didn't come down to happy memories, so much as anxiety getting in the way of her successful casting.
And yet he was just standing there, so smug looking that maybe if he said his piece, it would wipe that smug expression off of his face.
"But fine. What's your memory?" Because maybe it would help to know which memory she should use. Except again, it wasn't lack of happy memories.

An amused eyebrow was raised at that response. "You know, I know more than people give me credit for." Because, yes he heard the things that were whispered behind his back. That he was an idiot, reckless, loose cannon, arrogant, etcetera. And it was hard work making it seem like those things didn't bother him. But he did it, and it would help the Slytherin captain to learn it too.
Anyway, this wasn't about that, as he was reminded a minute later. "Mmm, it doesn't work like that," he replied, stepping further into the room. Besides, Ronan wasn't sharing that memory with anyone. "Take a deep breath, clear your mind and answer my questions with whatever pops into your mind first. It'll help you figure out what your true happiest memory is." This was how his mom had taught him, after catching him struggling with the spell over the summer.

Wait. What? It doesn't work like that?? Wasn't a patronus rooted in something that made you truly happy? Or was it the that he didn't want to share his memory? The Captain tilted her head, scrutinizing the head boy a moment. Clear your mind. Right, which was something that was easier said that done. Answer his questions? But he didn't answers, which of course was something that made her unable to focus clearly. Did he not realize that she had way too many thoughts in her head? Like a ridiculous amount. Probably more than any one person should have to bear. Scrunching up her face in concentration, and obviously not having her head cleared, she nodded at him to go on with his questions. Though she may or may not answer them aloud.

Honestly, he had expected some kind of protest. Hmm, did this say more about him or her?
Anyway, he was about to ask one thing, but something he noticed made him switch gears. "You haven't cleared your mind, have you?" It was pretty obvious. This technique wouldn't work, though, if she didn't. Then they both would've just wasted time here.

"Es-PELL-ee-OR-armus" Nope, that didn't sound right. She cleared her throat and tried again. "Es-PELL-ee- ORAMOUS" She shook her head. Not right again. She gave it one last go to try and mimic how Daisy has said the command. "ex-PELL-ee-ARE-muss! Oh, I think that was right. How did that last one sound?"

Wait. She wanted her to use the spell AT her? Emmalyn stood there a moment to let all of the horrible outcomes roll through her mind. She shuttered at a few of the thoughts, but tried to remain calm. Her getting all upset would not bode well for Daisy. She briefly closed her eyes and took in a deep breath. "Okay." She gripped her wand a bit tighter "I think I can do that."
She stepped a few feet away from her friend, pointed her wand at her and commanded "Expelliarmus!" while pointing and flicking her wand. Her eyes remained glued to Daily, waiting to see what would happen.

A smile slowly spread across her face as she watched Daisy's wand fly out of her hand. It had work. It had really worked. "That's so cool!" Her eyes followed her friend as she picked up the wand. "Thanks" she replied as she thought for a moment about another spell she wanted to work on. "Do you think we could tackle Arresto Momentum? I think that one could come in handy, plus it doesn't hurt anyone, which is a big plus in my book."
She glanced around the room to see which of the dummies or other props might work best to practice on. The room was filled with fabulous sections and props to help them learn without hurting each other.

She listened to Daisy's pronunciation, letting the sounds roll over in her mind, before attempting it herself. "Okay, here we go." She straightened her posture and held her chin up with command. "AH-res-toe mo-men-TUM" She cleared her throat "ah-REST-toh mo-MEN-tum" That sounded much more like Daisy had, but not quite right. "ah-REST-oh mo-MEN-tum" that one. "There, I think that last one was right. ah-REST-oh mo-MEN-tum!"

She held her wand just as Daisy did and practiced the movement over and over, until she felt she had it down. She loved how the more she practiced, the easier it felt. It was a good reminder to her that all she really needed to do was practice more. Having trouble with casting spells wasn't because she wasn't able to, it was because she was still learning and needed to practice.
"I think I have the wand movement down. Should we give it a go on one of the dummies over there?" She asked as she gestured towards the dummies on the far right wall. They looked big enough to be a challenge, but not so big that she would not be able to stop them.

Daisy watched carefully as Emmalyn repeatedly practiced the wand movement until she had it perfected. At Emmalyn's suggestion/question regarding the dummies, Daisy nodded and said, "Sound perfect. Let's head over there," Daisy then began to head over to the far right wall.

"Great!" She said as she followed Daisy towards the dummies. "So, do you know a spell that will get them going, or do you want to just throw them about and I'll try to stop them?" In her mind, she was trying to picture how the task would work. The dummies weren't large, but they weren't small either. Then, she wondered if they were maybe charmed to do things on command. It was a practice room and it may have been set up to work if you had to practice alone.
