Derf was still trying to figure out some more of the diagram while everyone else was shouting out answers - which would have been a GOOD for him to be paying attention to so he could have corrected some of his and Bel's mistakes along with adding the ones they had missed to their parchment. Oh well.

So when it came time for advice, Derf had a few things in mind...but something Bel said distracted him and, well, as all Derf's did...he began to spiral off into conspiracy theory land. They, he and Bel, had spent a decent amount of time talking about how the interior of the car was reversed...compared with what THEY knew and stuff. The diagram was for an American car. Their professor had been magically manipulated with DARK MAGIC by Americans for...three years had it been? Why were they learning about American car bits when they wouldn't be seeing THOSE on the road when they went out into London and when they were of age and had the urge to get one of those driving licence things and....WAS SHE STILL UNDER THE INFLUENCE?! WAS THIS SOME ATTEMPT AT MASS DESTRUCTION OR SOMETHING?!

You had promised yourself that you WOULDN'T do this and let your imagination get the best of you...but it was SO WEIRD and HARD considering the woman was, again, looking like she was being tailed by an invisible dementor sometimes and she had been that way while under the influence of the Williams twins.

What was the point?

Having declined the woman's "offer" to share what she knew, Jessa turned her gaze to the list she'd scribbled once more. It had nothing to do with cars but everything to do with where her attention currently was. So far, the Ravenclaw had been doing a brilliant job of not paying attention, and she planned to continue that trend....

.....But not before answering this one question she'd caught the tail end of--because how could she resist?

"Don't stand infront of one if it's speeding in your direction." Such sound knowledge. They were entirely welcome and she was going back to looking out the window. Oh look, the birds were back. She'd still like a pair of those. Perhaps the whomping willow had some fresh ones for her. Maybe she would check after the lesson was over.

Ooh. The main part of the lesson would be starting soon? Harriet was really hoping that meant they would be able to do something practical. She was getting a little restless with all this sitting. She wanted to be able to get up and do a few stretches, and get less crampy. So she hoped it would be a good practical. First she needed to think about this last question. Whilst she hadn't driven herself, she had been in a car a handful of time, so hoped that she kind of remembered some tips. She hadn't been that bothered though, nor was she now, so she wasn't thinking too hard. She didn't need this knowledge, so she wasn't going to try to hard.

Luckily, she could remember something, so she could at least answer the question. "You have to adhere to the speed limit of the road you're driving on" so no super fast driving all the time, which was kinda sad, but also needed for safety.

Max didn't really know the answer to the do's and don't question and listened to what his classmates had to say. The helmet thing sounded like a good idea, but he didn't remember wearing one when he went in a car...

And he liked Prefect Cambridge's answer a lot.

He didn't know that different roads had different speed limits either... Or that in some countries they drove on the different side??? Yep, he was happy just listening for now.

Rylee smiled nodding her head. So she had been correct in her answer and the center one was the break. Picking up her pen she made quick note to write that down before she forgot to. Along with all the other tips all her classmates were saying. Wearing a seatbelt at all times... yeah, this was important... very very important. Speed limit, keeping your eyes on the road, not hitting anything, using your mirrors. She wrote all that down.

"You want to use your turn signal if you plan on turning or changing lanes so other drives will know what you're doing and you won't cause an accident," she offered when it was her turn to speak.

Okay, so the car part Maddie thought was used for waving to passersby was called windshield wipers. They weren't used for waving at all. They were used for cleaning and wiping away raindrops. That sounded so boring. She thought using them for waving was so much more exciting.

It seemed like class was coming to an end, and all she had to do now was come up with something you should or should not do on the road. OHH! She knew a good one! "You probably shouldn't try to fly your car the same way Ron Weasley did," she said, raising her hand. Who hadn't heard about that epic story? And let's see...something you should do? "You should always stop when your car gets to a red light."

Patrick smiled, "well I know how to drive manual tractors, but as for cars, I know my parents prefer to drive an automatic." He smiled at Professor Stewart he loved looking at cars, but he was partial to some of the older models because that's what a lot of his friends parents drove.

He listened to the answers that most of his friends were stating. They were obvious answers, ones that he understood well. "My parents used to yell at us for turning the lights on in the back seat of the car." He shrugged a bit, "But Cellular phones are a big no no for people driving." he wrote down some of the other answers just as a precaution in case she asked about them in an essay or something.

So Skylar was still fretting about labeling the parts of her diagram when people started shouting out answers. Uhhhh ... Wheel. She was confident with that answer. Or the lights in number one on the exterior. But then before she could answer one of the parts to her diagram, they were moving on to dos and donts of driving a car? Okay so some of the answers seemed a bit obvious.

Also, for the record, she'd probably fair okay with driving a car because it wasn't all that different from flying. Just some more controls. Just because she didn't know what a CLUTCH was, didn't mean she couldn't figure out how to use it!

"Being able to multi-task is important." Mmhm. That was her two knuts worth. Or pounds. Whatever.

"Very good. For example, the British, Indians, Australians drive on the left side but in other countries, like Malta and the United States, the right side is utilised. It's best to check up on this information whenever you visit another country.'' So Jessa wasn't interested in the mini activity but she did at least provide and another important point. "Yes. If you're a pedestrian, it's vital that you pay attention to the traffic. Likewise, if you're the drive, be courteous to pedestrians. Stop at traffic lights when it indicates they have the go ahead to cross the road, obey traffic signs that warn you of pedestrian crossings like around school areas.''

"Speed limits are set up for reasons like rounding turns or bends and to prevent accidents with pedestrians as well as other motorists. Yes, we should obey them even if it seems frustrating at times. They're there to help us.''

He was suspicious. And scared. Mostly scared. Because the topic of the lesson was cars, and they were going outside.

With a doubtful look, he packed his things and stuffed them into his bag, which he then flung over his shoulder, and followed professor Stewart. He didn't like being proven wrong, but this one time he hoped he would be. She couldn't have gotten an actual car on the castle grounds to show them everything in more detail, could she?

Maddie nodded along as the professor confirmed her answer. Truth be told, she thought the lesson was ending there. But...no? They were heading somewhere? Outside could only mean one thing--they were about to drive some cars! Maddie was too excited to be panicked about the fact that she'd never driven anything before. She was about to drive something now, and that's all that mattered!

For the time being...

The third year stuffed everything in her bag as quickly as she could, abandoned the bag where it was, and then followed the class outside.

Was he satisfied with that answer? Not particularly. Yes and no. But they were moving on so he simply shrugged his shoulders at Bel and packed up his things for easy retrieval later. Hopefully his doxy was still napping inside and would be for a bit longer. At least until he came back after doing whatever it was they were going to be doing outside.

Though it was preeeeeetty obvious they were going to be DRIVING...and Derf wasn't sure how he would handle that. Totally different from motocross, you know? Never been behind the wheel before, not even bumper cars!

"This ought to be...interesting," he chuckled to the quidditch captain as he left his seat and followed the rest outside.

It took about every ounce of her not to jump out of her chair and scream with excitement. They were going outside. She rushed to put her things away, not caring that her papers were getting crumpled or that her pencils were not organized. Her only care was to get her little self out the doors and to the next part of class.

With her bag packed, she got up out of her desk and followed the rest of the class out the door, smiling the entire time.

Uhhh listen, did the Professor not see all those controls and switches?! Skylar sighed, "Yes of course you have to concentrate on what's going on around you, which involves paying attention to all aspects of the car. There's lots of switches and controls that you need to know what you're doing. And then if you listen to music in the car, you have that task too. So while you're concentrating on seemingly one thing you're actually doing like ten things." Did that make sense? Yes, no? Was she just talking in circles.

Oh and they were going outside to fly....!!! Err... drive!! And Skylar had to wonder if the car might be one of those convertibles cause she quite likes being open to the elements. This was exciting though and maybe illegal!? Well not for her, being seventeen, but there were students here NOT of age... how curious. Oh well. Perhaps this was how Stewart wanted to be in the good graces after the previous terms!?

Finally, they were going to do something fun outside the classroom. Nathan wondered if they were going to drive a muggle car? Wouldn't that be illegal in the muggle world due to his age? Coool. He quickly packed his bag and moved to follow the rest of the students. He hoped it's going to be an interesting experience.

Finally. A practical element! That made Harriet excited. The practicals were so much better than boring non-practicals. She knew they needed to do a bit of both, but she just preferred the practicals. She beamed, as she put her paper and pens back into her bag, and picked it up. She didn't really want to come back up to the classroom to collect it later, so that was why she was taking it with her. Once she had gotten everything she headed out of the classroom, following her peers. This was gonna be so much fun!

As Eria named off more names for the glove compartment, her eyebrows raised in the middle. Muggles were crazy. Just call it a compartment and get on with it! Jeesh! Kye shook her head, "Well I'll stick with the response I have, otherwise I'll run out of room apparently!" Kye had to wonder why people had to make such weird names for things, why couldn't they keep it simple?? "Thank you again, I appreciate the help," she said quietly to Eria.

When asked about the dos and don'ts of the road, Kye merely blinked. Uhh... she couldn't think of any better answers than those already being presented by her peers. She really didn't know much about cars (as if her first attempt at the diagrams wasn't a clear indication). Kye nodded at some of the answers, jotting down notes... in case she ever decided to drive? She doubted that would ever happen. She was able to get the sewing thing down last year, but Kye couldn't imagine herself hopping into such a big contraption that only she was controlling. She knew that muggles had plenty of car accidents literally every day, and she wasn't sure how anxious she would get trying that out. It was as this thought passed through her head that Professor Stewart was uhm... moving the class? Wait, did she have a car outside waiting for them? Were they going to get a driving lesson today?? Kye hesitantly put her things away and slung her bag over her shoulder, making her way with the crowd.

Oh? They were going outside? If he'd known that, he would've brought along a jacket...

Jessa groaned; a long, anguished but internal groan at the instruction to pack up and head out of the classroom. There were only so many things they could've been doing and suffice to say none of them held any real interest for her.

In the beginning, she loved the practical portions of lessons. They gave her ample chance to get her hands dirty and try things for herself. Now that she'd learned it all....she'd sooner have a theoretical lesson in which she could sit and do a bit of her own reading or contently daydream about all the things she'd rather be doing. Both, as was easily understood, were harder to do when you were moving about doing things you weren't at all keen on.

At first, she thought to remain sitting. Maybe if everyone filed out with the Professor, no one would noticed she'd remained behind, then she could indeed get some reading done.

But no. In the next minute the Professor was urging the stragglers to hurry. This time, the girl gave an external, audible sigh as she pushed away from her seat and began packing her things away. The under-stimulation was sure to make whatever activity this was nothing short of torture for her but for the sake of compliance, she too headed out of the classroom.

It felt strange...being smiled at. The 5th year didn't really know what to think of it when the professor did it. Her face felt a little warm and she nodded to her before looking away. Nope...she wasn't going to enjoy it. She was probably smiling like that at someone behind her.

The she snake may have cracked a partial, fleeting smile at the older snake's comment. Even having a muggle parent...she thought they were a tad strange and crazy herself. As for the names....well it was a bit ridiculous really. "Oh, uh...no problem." The brunette replied just as quietly. Today had been...interesting.

Rylee smiled as the praise her answer had been given. Taking down the responses her classmates were also giving into her notebook she remained quite for several more minutes until the professor announced it was time to clear their things away.

They were going outside? Slightly puzzled but much more excited than anything the second year hastily packed away her pens, notebook and textbook into her bag and got to her feet slinging the strap of her bag over her shoulder. She was ready to go! Without a moment to waste she quickly followed everyone out of the room to see what was going on!
