If you suffer from FOMO or just want to be in the involved with everything, then the middle passenger cars of the train are for you. Just like the other cars, a long corridor provides access to the many compartments, each labelled with a letter, available for you and your friends to hunker down in until the train has come to a complete stop. Cushioned seats and large windows, allowing perfect views of the British scenery on your journey, await.
Well, what are you waiting for? Slide open a compartment door and make yourself at home. Place any of your belongings not in the luggage car on the racks above you. Chat with your friends about what you did this summer, enjoy munching on the snacks you bought from the trolley lady, get ahead of the game by reading your textbooks, or take a long nap as the train travels over numerous hills and mountainsides. Whatever you do, exhibit your best behaviour -- the prefects will be regularly patrolling the corridors and poking their heads inside your compartment to make sure you are doing so.
Quinnlin moved down the corridor with purpose. That purpose was to claim an entire cabin for herself. All the eager firsties and teachers pets would likely be up in the front cars, anxious to be the first to Hogwarts. All the slackers would be in the back, trying to be the last. And thus, Quinn was in the middle of the train, where, she hoped, there was a better chance of an empty compartment to claim.
Every purposeful step caused her knew dangly earrings to sway, bring little bursts of happiness in a sea of....other people. They were silver wands that hung down from a sapphire stud. At present they were white sapphires, which looked more like diamonds than sapphires, but they were enchanted to change color according to the house she was sorted in. If Slytherin, they'd become green sapphires. If Hufflepuff (please no) they'd become yellow sapphires. If Ravenclaw, the iconic blue sapphires. And if Gryffindor, rubies. Rubies are actually red sapphires apparently.
The earrings were Daddy's apology gift for the summer. Mum's was a new broom that she couldn't take to school and was current stuffed unused in the back of her closet at home. Needless to say, Daddy won.
Oh perfect! An empty compartment! Quinn slipped in before anyone else could and shut the door. She pulled out her wand and attempted a locking spell with a sharp, decisive, "Colloportus!" There was a slight tingle in her wand hand. That meant it worked right?
Satisfied, without checking the door mind you, Quinn turned, set down her bag on one side of the compartment's seating, pulled out her book and stretched out completely on the other side's seating. Once she was comfy, she opened the book and began to read in the quiet serenity of her private compartment.

Beth Greyvson was true to her word – the small blonde had told that prefect that she would keep the corridors free for them…and she was bent on doing that. Raising her hand to her hair she quickly brushed her fingers through her hair before pulling it into a high ponytail – the kind sporty people wore…the kind she needed to wrangle all of the other first years like herself.
Maybe…could she get Quinny in on this? Wrangle some kids – make them leave people alone…and well, she’d obviously pass along those special lessons to Q. They weren’t private or anything right? Everyone needed to master that leave me alone grimace now…right?
Could she just say she tried and ignore the duties? That…that’d be okay right the guy was probably leaving after this term as is – it wasn’t like he could make her life a living hell for that long no snakes in her bed right? Still, she’d obviously bring up the idea to Quinnybear Q.
”Hey Qbert? That thing I told you about the contract should I do it or should I bag it and say ’I tried, there were just so many first years…and a nap sounded like a good start’…I mean, what d’ya think the Prefect-man can do about things?” she asked as she followed Quinn into her supposedly private compartment.
Seriously, that was the perk of being her neighbor and bestie she knew how to sneak up on her…and those sneakers she was wearing were very sneaky.

Kimi had moved through the train to find a quiet area that he could think and concentrate he still couldnt believe that it was time to go to school all ready and it scared him because he was now a sixth year and had only one year left at Hogwarts

Dorian was glad to be rid of his luggage. Was it just him or did those suitcases get bigger and bigger each year? Now it was time to find a place to sit though and the third year had been searching Rylee but when he couldn't find the Gryffindor he decided to look for an empty compartment for a couple of minutes until he gave up.
With a sigh, the boy opened a random door and was Plessers that it wasn't full yet. "Can i sit here?" he asked the older boy who he vaguely remembered seeing around the school.

Dorian sat down and placed his bag beside him. "I'm Dorian" he greeted back without looking at Kimi because he was too busy opening up his bag. "You're in Gryffindor House right?" he asked as he finally took out a bar of nougat and began to unwrap the plastic before he took a bite. "Oh man i hadn't eaten this morning, can't wait till we are at the feast"

Upon boarding the train Rylee was her typical excitable self. Maybe even more so this term and that could all be do to the slightly younger yet taller boy that was with her. "It probably doesn't matter if we find an empty compartment or not... I was only alone for about two minutes last year." She glanced over her shoulder at her brother to see if he was even listening to a word she was saying. Not that she would mind finding an empty compartment though where they could be joined by their friends or well her friends? Uh... his friends? Yeah, she wasn't even sure. Most of her friends that came to visit over the summer had met him so they were now his friends too, right?
There was a compartment just up ahead with the door open just a bit. Someone was no doubt inside by the quiet voices she could hear coming from within. Time to find out who. Rylee gave a light knock first before sliding the door open more and peering inside. "Hello," she smiled greeting the two girls inside, both she didn't recognize at all. "Mind if we join you?" It couldn't hurt to make new friends.

He was a Hufflepuff....
Dorian felt himself getting red in the face by his mistake. He never liked making a mistake so when it happened he would pretend nothing had happened except for his cheeks and ears burning up. The boy took another bite of the nougat instead. "Sorry" he said with a mouthful so it sounded like 'sowwy' "Dwoh yowh want sohme?" which translated to if he wanted some nougat as well and he held up another bar for the guy to take if he wanted. "What did you do this summer?" he asked after a while of chewing.

"Gah!" Quinn nearly tumbled off the bench from the start. Her eyes locked onto Beth and narrowed. "I am so sticking a bell on you." Or maybe a ticking clock inside her like the crocodile! Oh....yes, she liked that even better. Let's see how sneaky she can be ticking all the time. Wait a......Qbert? Q was one thing, but Qbert? "Right," she grabbed her wand, "I'm hexing you, hold still."
And then....and then the door opened! And a bright eager face popped in, with another face in tow. Quinn shot one of her amazingly withering glares at Beth - with extra wither, even! This was clearly all Beth's fault. She had disrupted the locking spell, which totally worked by the way until her neighbor happened. It was all Beth's fault.
"Yes." Quinn kept her voice flat and went back to her book now that that was all taken care of. Too bad for Quinn, just saying 'yes,' is a bit ambiguous and can be interpreted as 'yes, I mind,' which is how she meant it, or 'yes, you may join us,' which tends to be how most people interpret it. Clearly, if the interlopers didn't get it right, that'd be all Beth's doing too.
Olivia is going to Hogwarts. She bade her goodbyes to her weeping mother too scared to let her go and her as always calm and composed nonchalant father. Truth be told, Oli was more excited than sad. First, she was now free of all her mother's annoying rules "Do not touch. Sit straight. Smile." and second, FINALLY! she's going to have friends, like real ones. The ones she can connived with, to achieve a mutual benefit and common purpose. Which makes perfect sense. It's not always so good to give your Chocolate Frogs to someone who won't give you a pumpkin pastie or a licorice wand.
Oli made her way to find an available compartment to leave her things...rest for a little while and then plenty of time to run around the train.
First one. FULL.
Second one. FULL.
Third one. FULL.
Will she ever find one? Could she just leave her things somewhere around here?

Reese was busy looking around the interior of the train as he followed his sister done the aisle.. She was chattering on about how it was alright to join others in their compartments if they couldn't find an empty one or something... She was always prattling on excitedly about something.. So, this kid was very much used to it and honestly he'd be doing the same thing if he wasn't already pre-occupied with his new surroundings. " Yeah.. Alright.. Just lead the way.. ", he said with an easy nod as he looked into the compartments which seemed to be filling fast with groups of friends and such..
Honestly, he was glad he had his sister to help him with the awkward business of talking to people freely. That was something he tended to have a hard time with now and again.. It was something that he probably should work on, but really he preferred the company of Pulsar and Radar, his foxes he had cared for since they were kits. Reese sighed at the memory of the look in his foxes' eyes when he told them he was leaving to go off to school by showing them is trunk packed and his other things put away that were normally left thrown all over his room..
Being an introvert, Reese, didn't have many friends.. Frankly, the poor boy only really had one friend and that was his sister.. He didn't count anyone as friends per say... Acquaintances .. Sure, but not really friends yet.. He didn't know anyone well enough to give them that distinction.
So, silently he paused behind her as she asked if they might join a compartment with a couple girls she seemed to know?

Seventh year. She, Junia L. Botros, was a seventh year. A single, badge-less, seventh year. To say she was a bit droopy over the whole thing would be an understatement, but she was an expert at masking her disappointment in herself, especially when people close to her had the things she wanted. Her job right now was to be happy for them and to sulk in solo, which was exactly what she was doing. SULKING LIKE A CHAMP.
At least she hadn't peaked at seventeen, right? That meant something big was in store for her future...

Looking from one compartment to another, little children seemed to be huddling together with older ones, probably families, others didn't seemed to be too open for a chatter like Oli. A number of them choosing to sleep their way until Hogwarts. Which doesn't seemed like a good idea. This will be Olivia's very first train ride to Hogwarts, she needed to make sure this is going to be a day she will remember.
On her quest, Oli saw a girl and a boy a few compartments ahead of her. They were also looking for a place to stay. Inspecting the inside first, she then saw the girl knocking into one door.
Following their lead, half run towards the two. And stop.
Oli looked over the closed space. One. Two. Three. Four. She could still slip herself, right?
Oli knocked twice, not attempting to slide the door herself. Or not. She slid the door open. "Can I join you?" Oli almost pleaded. "There were no more available compartments." Of course, that was a lie. What she meant was there were no more private compartments. Private is good. But crowded is better.
Beth couldn’t help but laugh when Quinn threatened to stick a bell on her ”please Quinny you know I’d manage to lose the bell…” Beth settled herself onto one of the seats and simply raised her eyebrow at Quinn when the threat happened.
”oh please, you won’t hex me…not with everything I always do for you” Quinn knew what she did, no one else had to know, but Quinn did…and really it wasn’t like they knew many harsh hexes yet. ”besides, I brought you food,” she added before tossing a little wrapped bundle over toward her. ”there are crisps, a sandwich and a drink in there.” she informed as her mum had made a point to make Quinn a packed lunch as well.
Beth simply gave Quinn a BIG puppy dog eyed smile before turning an innocent look over to the new addition to the compartment. Oh, wow she had fierce hair. ”Hi red,” she gave the redheaded addition to the group and then paused – there were two of them. Oh…reds there were two. ”Hi…oh there are more people” she muttered and then grinned at everyone in the room before sending Quinn a sorry expression.
”Sure…join us, or me I don’t bite I’m not sure about Quinn…she may be vicious we haven’t decided yet.” Beth was only half lying, really, it was her constant state of half truths. ”I’m Beth, I don’t know the red-heads names at all, and that lovely angelic creature over there is Shmebulock” keep a trait face must keep a trait face she sent Quinn a look. ”everyone calls her Quinn though” she added as if that was normal.

Quinn gave Beth the flattest stare she could. "I know you would, which is why my really plan was cramming a clock inside you...maybe hexing your skin to be scaly and leathery...and calling you Crocface." She let out a wistful sigh.
But Beth was right, she does way too much for her for Quinn to hex her, for now. Quinn knew it. Beth knew it. Quinn hated that Beth knew it, and it showed clearly in her expression as she slipped her wand back into her pocket. Back to reading. Quinn had just opened het book again when a wrapped package landed on it. Food! She quickly unwrapped the bundle enough to pull out the crisps when the worst happened.
BETH INVITED THEM IN! INVITED! Told you it would end up being her fault! The little witch.
She side-eyed Beth for a second before focusing on the new people and biting the air menacingly with a very satisfying clack of her teeth and....WHAT!? Shembulock!? Quinn glared murderous daggers at her so-called best friend, before pulling off one of her shoes and chucking it, hard, at Beth's head. It missed, unfortunately. "You swore you'd never tell anyone!" she hissed, folding her arms angrily across her chest with a huff.
"My parents are that awful," she explained sourly to the new kids. "And if you ever call me that, or tell anyone," she leveled one long menacing look at each of them before continuing, "I will chuck you out that window." She nodded to the compartment window as outside the land fell away into a deep and wide ravine. Serendipitous timing, actually. "There is even a name for it. Defenestration."
Olivia, with her baby fringes bouncing from her long forehead, flashed her winning smile to the girl named Beth who invited her in, together with the redheads. It was also Beth who introduced the other girl as Quinn, then sheeeemmbolkkk?, then Quinn again. Suspicions aside, these two were friends. Knew each other before Hogwarts.
Quinn seemed like a little cranky about the little joke. There were times, Oli might be cranky too, if she had that nickname and someone openly exposing to everyone.
With Quinn's threat of throwing out the window whoever called her shshmembloookeee, Oli swiftly made a quick promise. "I heard nothing," raising her right palm in the air, eyebrows slightly raised. "Hi Quinn. Hi Beth. I'm Olivia Hurst. You can call me Oli. That's my only nickname," she couldn't help but add that last line. Turning to the side of the redheads, Olivia greeted them too. "Hi." The boy and the girl of course.
Olivia made a quick scan of the empty seats then plopped herself on the one closest to the door. That was before she stowed her things on the racks above.
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

An illness? So that was why Dorian could only remember him vaguely. If he had been at home for the most of the year. "That's rough" he said. "Were you sick or someone in your family?"

From a first moments glance, Rylee was content with the chosen train compartment. The two girls seemed nice even if one of them was referring to her as 'red'. There were far worse names she could be called. "Thanks," she smiled following Reese inside since he slipped past her and sat by the window, of course he did.
Rylee sat down beside her brother looking at each of the girls, the one doing all the talking said her name was Beth. The other was Quinn and seemed rather angry about some weird nickname and was already threatening to throw people out the window... Rylee liked to see her try. Then there was Oli the other girl that had followed them into the compartment. It was clear to her that they were a group of first years.... she didn't recognize any of them from last term. What in the world had she gotten herself into?
Ignoring the girls outburst and immature shoe throwing, the small ginger took Neptune her rat from her pocket and set him on her shoulder before pulling out several sugar quills which she offered to the group. "I'm Rylee and this is my brother, Reese." Her smile was still there and she was still in a good mood despite whatever it was that was happening in here.

Her job right now was to be happy for them and to sulk in solo, which was exactly what she was doing. SULKING LIKE A CHAMP.
At least she hadn't peaked at seventeen, right? That meant something big was in store for her future...
...Maybe.
So Skylar PROBABLY should have checked into the Prefect's Compartment first. Ya know, just to let them know that 'hey, i'm still Quidditch Captain'. But apparently her feet at other priorities as she made her way down the corridor peering into each of the compartments, trying to not overthink as she was prone to doing. Was it weird that she kind of wanted to see if she could find the compartment she sat in on her very first train ride to Hogwarts seven years ago? The only thing, so much had happened on the train rides in between, that she couldn't even remember WHERE on the Hogwarts Express she had sat. She was no longer the eager eleven year old waiting to be sorted into a house. So many memories and feelings and emotions, and to think ... it was only September 1st.
Lugging her trunk behind her, with two pet carriers on top of it, she peered into the compartments figuring sitting with some non-badged friends for her last train ride at least part of the way might be good. Although she did know Hattie would be in the Prefect's compartment this go-around, she didn't really fancy dealing with Zoryn Spinnet just yet. And she was curious slightly who might be Head Boy, thinking it probably WASN'T Flynn which was a good thing, to be honest, because while she could tolerate him, he wasn't exactly 'head boy' material
Aha.
"Junia! Hey!" She grinned at her roomie and chaser. "How was your summer?" Also, she probably wouldn't have been so jovial in asking that if only she'd known of the singleness, but alas, the seventeen year old was totally oblivious to her friend's new status. Besides, she'd been dating Sam for FOREVER, so that wouldn't have changed over one summer, right?
She plopped down on the seat opposite, setting her pet carriers next to her totally covered by a blanket too and cast the levitation charm to lift the trunk onto the rack. This doing magic outside of Hogwarts thing was pretty handy.

To say Chloe McCarthy was nervous was an understatement. She had dreamed of this day since she and Xar were making plans to try to figure out how to age themselves when they were eight. Now it was here, now she was on the train and she didn't really know where to go. Where was Xar? Where was Gunnar? Her excitement nerves had changed into anxiety.
Walking the corridor she looked around at all the people. Seeing some she recognized made her feel better, there was D, her friend she wasn't really allowed to have, because she was a Blaze, and the boy from the quidditch store, and the boy from the bookstore, names were not her friend right now.
Feeling all sorts of emotions and already missing her daddy, mommy, and Morgan, she slipped into a compartment with her kitten Teacup and looked out the window.
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

Dorian watched outside the window for a second to see where they were when Kimi took the nougat bar. They had left the cuties and were now surrounded by green. Dorian looked back and ate his own nougat bar while he listened. "Which subjects did you get a passing grade in?" he asked curiously.
So he was the one who had been sick. Not someone in his family. "Well, its good that you are all better now...What did you have?" he asked bluntly. "You didn't have spattergroit right?" he made a disgusted face at the thought and actually stopped from taking a bite.
