For those who belong in Hufflepuff House, in the middle of the Great Hall is where your table awaits. Gold banners containing an embroidered black badger float above the polished table in honour of the loyal Helga Hufflepuff. Already placed on the tables are silver plates with accompanying cutlery and goblets. All that is missing right now are the mountains of food and pitchers containing your favourite beverages.
Though your stomach might be growing as you take a seat on one of the long benches next to the table, it is important to not get hangry -- gnawing your arm away or jabbing your fork repeatedly on the surface of the table will do no good whatsoever. Give everyone some time to get settled in and wait for Headmistress Hawthorne to deliver her speech. Keep yourself preoccupied by catching up with your fellow housemates or those who are visiting from the other tables until it is time to sink your teeth into the hearty and delicious meal prepared by the house-elves.

Kimi had missed seeing the great hall when he was off sick so much but he was glad to be back at Hogwarts and this time he was going to be able to see the whole term out

Daisy didn't feel like spending any longer than required at the feast due to worrying about her father. She was nervously awaiting any news about his condition. She sat down opposite Kimi and gave him a fraction of a smile.

Sitting as far away from the staff table as possible, with Ciaira at her side, Kaylah did her best to ignore everyone else. She didn't want to be here, regardless of how decent the food was at the start of term feast.
Back straight with hands in her lap, her eyes took in the room yet again dismayed at the elbows on the table. The shouting. The lack of china. The lack of ranged goblets and cutlery.
Honestly.
Sighing, she rolled her eyes at Ciaira and hoped the feast went faster than usual.

Harriet was glad to be off of the train and into school. The train, especially the prefects compartment had been full of drama. She just wanted to be aware from it all. This was her seventh year, her last year at Hogwarts, and she just wanted to enjoy it. They wouldn't get another last year, and she was determined it was going to be the very best it could be. She was also determined to look after her badgers, and make sure that they had a good year too. She was going to make her parents, and Professor Myers proud. She had to leave a legacy. She was a Paton of course.
Making sure her badge was straight, and her uniform tidy, the seventh year made her way into the great hall, and down to the Hufflepuff table. It was going to be her last start of term feast. She was kind of sad, but also really excited. "Hey guys!" She murmured, greeting Kimi, Daisy, and Kaylah. Not too many people here yet, but that was okay.
She took a seat, and smiled. It was good to be back.

Reese threw his robes under his bottom as he took his place on the long bench with a sigh.. He was NOT at all happy about having been sorted into Hufflepuff.. He didn't even try to smile at anyone who was.. Nope! He wasn't in the mood to be all ' Hi, How are ya?.. My name is Reese let's be friends '.
So, there he sat pouting quietly.. And at the same time plotting his revenge on that Bloody hat that messed up his chance to prove himself in what he considered to be better houses.

Enter the Unfriendliest Badger of all time!
Daisy then observed a rather surly looking redhaired boy sit down. Normally, Daisy would be introducing herself but judging by the look on his face, she thought it would suffice if she didn't say anything. "Please don't be an 'anti-Hufflepuff' badger," she thought.
She sashayed into the Great Hall with a radiant smile on her young face. The summer had gone on forever and she couldn't wait to get the feast started. As she approached the Hufflepuff table, she was a little disappointed by the small number of arrivals. Sure, she had chosen to sit in the front cars, which got her off the train and to the castle sooner, but her heart ached to see her friends.
Her eyes scanned the table and first spotted Harriet. "Hi Harriet! she greeted, a bit too loudly, before seeing Kimi and Kaylah. She gave them both a nod and a smile. She hand't gotten to know either of them well the last year and made a mental note to fix that.
"Daisy!" Her feet bounced a bit when she saw her best friend. She headed for her, ready to chat again. The train ride had not been long enough for them to full catch up from the summer.
Just as she was about to sit, she eyed Reece and gave him a big wave. His face seemed sad, but she wondered what could be wrong. He had been sorted into Hufflepuff. "Hi Reece. Welcome to Huffleupff! I'm so glad you are in my house. It's the best house at Hogwarts, really." She waved him over. "Please, come sit with us."
His arms still firmly crossed, hands in his armpits.. Mainly because the castle was a bit drafty and his fingers were starting to get cold. But, all the same the disgruntled firstie looked up as he heard his name and saw that his new acquaintance from Diagon Alley was waving and welcoming him to what she deemed the best house at Hogwarts.. That of course was her opinion to have and his opinion to reject until proven as such. Oh joy.. She was inviting him to join her friend down the table a bit.. That was very Hufflepuff of her..
It took him a moment to think on it before lifting himself from his place and going to join them. He didn't want enemies in his own house. That wouldn't make for finding good study partners in a pinch if he needed one. So, he plastered his best, most polite and cheerful smile and made his way over to them. " Hi, Emmalyn.. Thanks.. ", he said in a friendly tone as he sat down beside her. " How was the rest of your summer?... Oh!.. Silly me.. Hello. I'm Reese.. ", he asked before realizing he hadn't greeted her friend she was talking to when he walked up to join them.
Mom says I have no sense of direction, so I packed my bags and right.
The 7th Year Transfer girl from Beauxbaton had been sorted and placed in Hufflepuff. Whatever it meant to her, she wasn't sure. She had heard passing mentions by More-Experienced-At-Being-At-Hogwarts students, telling younger kids the your House is your Family? Does even count for her? It felt more like a Foster Family to her. She was more at home in Beauxbaton with all her friends there.
She felt lonely without Caramelo. Her Piglet taken from her and moved to some Barn. Bigger and scarier beasts that would likely enjoy mini-bacon!! JUST THE THOUGHT made her worry more. She hoped Caramelo would be hard to swallow at least.
She was not her normal spunky self in the midst of all this newness. She thought she would be prepared for it.

", he asked before realizing he hadn't greeted her friend she was talking to when he walked up to join them.
She beamed as her new friend came over. He still looked off, but she didn't want to push him too much. Maybe the sorting had been a bit overwhelming... "My summer was great! How about yours? Aren't you just the most excited right now? I loved my first feast!" She paused, more so to take a breath over giving poor Reese a chance to answer.
In her pause, she had a moment to glance around and noticed an older, unfamiliar, student take a seat at the table. "Hi!" She greeted the newcomer. She was certain she had never met the older girl before and hoped she would make a great addition to the house. "Welcome to Hufflepuff! Are you a transfer student?" She really hoped she was, not that she had somehow completely forgotten the girl over the summer. Emmalyn knew she was horrible with names, but she rarely forgot a face.

Kimi saw Daisy sit down beside him and half smile he could tell that something was up but he didnt want to press it, Kimi smiled at Hattie and said "Hey Hattie congratulations on the badge" Kimi was pleased for Hattie, Kimi nodded to Emmalyn not really knowing her that well, Kimi also saw Reese who he could tell was not happy about being sorted into Hufflepuff
Lex was beaming. Excitement rushed through her veins as she approached the table full of Hufflepuff students, eager to start her first year at Hogwarts. She had been dreaming of this day for years. Surely this would be an adventure she would never forget.
As Lex sat down in an empty seat, she was shaking. She wasn't sure what was causing her to shiver, whether it was excitement or nerves or something in between. Or maybe she was just hungry. She couldn't wait for the feast to start!
Lex brushed a few wild strands of blonde hair out of her face, which was flushed pink. Her face always went pink when she was excited. She looked around curiously at the other students, wondering if they were all as thrilled as she was. She placed her folded hands, still shaking, into her lap. Now that she thought of it, she was suddenly SO nervous. She could still hardly believe that she was finally here! She took a few deep breaths to try to relax herself.

"Hello, HUFFLEPUFFS!"
...Maddie Kemp greeted, strolling into the Great Hall with her usual loudness. Only, the greeting was the only loud part about her entrance. She didn't want to seem like a bull in a china cabinet or something. There was just no shy bone in this child's body, and why not greet the entire house all at once?
"What's up, Kimi?" ... "How was your summer, Daisy?" ... "Welcome to your very last start-of-term feast ever, Hattie!" ... "Hi, newcomers, I don't know! I'm Maddie!" ... "Super awesome to see you again, Emmalyn."
...and then the bouncing ball of energy took a seat. She needed food. That piece of candy she had on the train seemed hours and hours ago...

After the chaos that had been the train journey and then the incident with the house elves and the trunks, Bel finally made her way into the Great Hall. She made a beeline for her own table, though she did wave quite enthusiastically over at her friends at the other three tables, each of them in turn. Some of the first years had already been sorted, and not just first years either. Bel was always interested about transfers since she had been one herself, in her second year.
She still wasn't use to wearing a skirt for her uniform either, and it felt like she had to adjust it all the time and it wasn't that she was bothered by its length either. How did you stop them from sliding around and sort of turning so that they weren't sitting straight anymore? Was it her? Did she walk funny or something else that made the front and back decide to swivel around to sit on each of her hips? And don't get her started on the lining! That kept on working itself up underneath her skirt until it was bunched at her waist, which was just dumb. Bel was half convinced that tearing the whole lining out would be a good plan, only then the wool might itch on her skin. It was all incredibly inconvenient honestly. It looked fine at the moment, but felt annoying. This was distracting enough in the moment not to be too stressed about how people might react to her being captain this term. Of course, a few people already knew, and a few others had found out on the train, but now it would be official and common knowledge to everyone. Her badge was pinned neatly on her robes for all to see.
"Hello everyone!" Bel greeted, her strong Australian accent coming through as she spoke. She sat herself down in an available seat.

Daisy was relieved to see Emmalyn. When her friend invited the redhaired boy to join them, Daisy introduced herself. "Hello, Reese. My name's Daisy and I welcome you to Hufflepuff."
She then saw a potential transfer student and waved at her. "Which school have you transferred from? My name's Daisy, by the way." She then saw Lex, the girl she had met on the train to Hogwarts and smiled softly and said to her, "Hey, Lex. Welcome to Hufflepuff!"
The bright voice of Maddie came next. Daisy felt bad that her answer to Maddie's question about her summer was going to place a dark cloud over things but she wasn't going to lie. "Sadly, my summer was lousy. My father is in the hospital and I don't know how he is. My aunt said she'll write an owl but I've heard nothing." As soon as the tears began to flow, Bel sat down. Daisy quickly wiped them away and composed herself. "Congratulations, Captain. I can't wait for Quidditch trials."
Lex had taken a few deep breaths and her nerves were a bit calmer now. She saw a couple of familiar faces from the train, Emmalyn and Daisy. "Hey girls!" she said, waving and beaming at them. It made her more comfortable to see a couple of familiar faces. "I'm so glad I made Hufflepuff!"
She then smiled at the other students sitting nearby, who were all meeting and greeting each other. She hadn't caught their names yet. Even so, they were her housemates now and she was sure that she'd make plenty of new friends.
"Hey everyone," she said to them. "I'm Lex!" Hopefully she would learn everyone's names and get to know them. They all looked very friendly.

"Well, we're happy to have you in our house. I hope you have a great time. Professor Myers who is our Head of House is great. It seems that there are more Ravenclaws and Slytherins this term but that might be just me," Daisy replied.

Start of term feasts were always pretty exciting. She hadn't seen most of her house mates for nearly three months, so there was always a lot to catch up on. It was special this year too, since it was her last start of term feast. Only this one last one. She was also prefect this term. So she needed to make sure that all of the hufflepuffs were having a good time. She knew they would all look after each other though. So that was good. They were such a lovely house. She looked around a smiled. It was going to be a good year. Though she hoped that they would have some food soon. She was kind of hungry.
Oooh. There were some new students. That was good. "Hello" The blonde murmured, as she smiled at Reese, and Lex who looked young enough to be first years. "Welcome to Hufflepuff. The best house. I'm Hattie, and I'm your female prefect. I hope you have a great time here! If you ever need any help feel free to come find me!" Since she wanted to be helpful. And then there seemed to be a new older student, Minnie. She looked about her age actually. "Hi!" The seventh year smiled. "Welcome to Hufflepuff, and Hogwarts. I'm Hattie. It's nice to meet you!" and it was! She loved meeting new people.
And now she should be polite and talk to her fellow house mates. They were all so lovely! "Thank you Kimi!" She murmured with a smile. She really hoped she did good as a prefect. She didn't want to be a bad one. But she wa s sure she couldn't be any worse than Flynn was. And then there was Maddie. Oh Maddie. "It feels weird, but I'm happy. I love these feasts" Though she did want some food soon. She was hungry.
And then there was Bel! [b]"Hey Bel!"[/b[ The blonde murmured with a smile. She was glad to see her fellow hufflepuff leader. She was excited about quidditch this year, hoping that they would be able to do a bit better this year. It was going to be her last chance to play quidditch, so she really did want to do good. She had to make the best of it whilst she could.
And now. She looked towards the staff table. Speech soon? So they could eat? Yes please.

Daisy mentally admonished herself for not congratulating Hattie sooner but her mind was a mess. She said to her, "Congratulations on becoming Prefect. Sorry that I didn't say anything earlier." Daisy was feeling tired, nervous and hungry. Well, she was most nervous and tired and she thought that was what was contributing to her feelings of hunger.

Furmgoat couldn't fly as fast as he used to. Even with his wonky wings and slightly podgy owl belly he had always been a good flyer, but now it took a little longer. Still, he had flown as fast as he could to Hogwarts, right in the front door, and then into the Great Hall. The worst part about being an aging owl was that he didn't get as many treats from the hoomans anymore. Furmy hoped that THIS hooman would give him treats. Now where was the hooman he was looking for? There! Furmy dropped the letter on the table in front of her, and landed on the girl's arm and let out a pathetic screech. He wanted treats for the effort of delivering that letter so fast.
This is to inform you that your father has passed away in hospital. Your mother is doing as well as to be expected. She is wanting you to continue your term at Hogwarts. Please feel free to owl me.

Daisy was sitting waiting for the feast to officially begin when a rather raggedy owl landed on her arm and dropped a letter in front of her. She gave the owl a decent handful of treats and thanked him for the letter despite having a gloomy feeling about it. She carefully opened the envelope from her aunt and read the letter inside.
"No!" Daisy shook as the tears flowed like a waterfall. She wanted to go to her dormitory and cry but she'd have to wait.

Oh good! Treats! Furmy hopped off the girl's arm and gobbled down almost all of them at once, then filled his cheeks with the remainder of treats and with a muffled, mouth-filled hoot, launched off the table and flew out the open doors. Bye, hoomans.

Daisy watched the owl through red eyes as he scoffed the treats down. She hoped that he wouldn't choke. As soon as the owl departed. Daisy began crying again. She wanted to talk to the Headmistress, Professor Myers or Professor Marchand and having to wait wasn't helping her emotionally.
