There is little to indicate what today's History of Magic lesson will be about. The ceiling is enchanted to reflect whatever the Great Hall is reflecting, which in turn reflects the true weather outside Hogwarts. Today is another late April morning, and the sky is clear of clouds - save for a few small wisps in the distance. The chalkboard is blank.
Charles sits at his desk. He smiles politely and greets you as you walk in. Usually he is grading homework or writing letters to Diagon Alley supplies stores, but today you have his full attention.
Settle down. The lesson will commence shortly.
OOC: Class has begun. You may post pretending your character was here all along if you like.
History of Magic was a favorite of Emmalyn's. It helped her learn more about the world she should have grown up in, and there was usually no risk of harm during the class. She entered the classroom and smiled. The next best thing to having class outside was being able to feel like she was outside. The clear blue sky was welcoming and further lifted her spirits.
"Hello, professor, it looks as if spring is here to stay. I trust you are well on this fine April day." Her greeting came out with a bit more rhyme than intended and she slightly blushed as she headed to her seat.
After putting her things down and pulling out her parchment and quill, she patiently waited for the rest of the class to arrive and for the lesson to start.

Was it just her, or were the classes really piling on lately? Maybe it was just the fact that the school year was almost to an end. It just seemed like she had a lot more work to do than she usually did. She shrugged to herself as she continued down the corridor and toward the classroom. As she opened the door, she paused. Had she accidentally entered the Great Hall by accident or something?
The professor was at his desk, though, and Maddie gave him a smile as she walked further into the room. "Hello, Professor Curtains!" she said. On that note, she headed toward a seat and started getting herself situated. She passed a smile to Emmalyn. Was it just her, or were they always the first two in class?

"Good day, Professor!" Chloe bounced into class and waved at the professor before finding her seat. The charmed ceiling was super cool, although she wondered if she was going to be distracted by interesting clouds floating overhead. Like that one... that one was shaping up to be a goat jumping over a flowering bush. And the one behind it was a dog chasing its tail.
So. Focus. Had she already said hello to the professor? "Have you ever considered teaching outside?" Since they could already see the sky.

Slate entered the classroom, immediately distracted by the ceiling. It was a nice clear day, which made him want to be outside. Hopefully this class would go fairly quickly and he'd be able to grab some fresh air before studying. OWL year was turning out to be a real nightmare.
"Hey, Professor." he greeted before taking a seat.

He already knew one class he wouldn't miss once he'd graduated: this one. Nothing against the professor, just that he did nothing to spice up his lessons, nor was there any debating that ended up happening. Just constant note-taking, which made it very easy to let the mind wander. Still, he didn't think it was a good idea to skip class with NEWTs so close, so here he was.
"Hello, Professor Curtains," he greeted, finding a seat and completely ignoring the ceiling.

The ceiling in the Great Hall at breakfast had made Stasya want to go out to the nursery to let some of the creatures, mostly Claire, out to get some exercise, and the celling in the History of Magic classroom only made her want to do so that much more. But lessons first, and she was just going to have to hope that the weather stayed nice all day so she could go do that after lessons. It might. Maybe. She was planning on it anyway.
“Good day Professor Curtains,” she greeted the professor as she made her way to her usual seat, giving the man a smile. The day deserved cheerfulness, even if there was absolutely no clues as to what they’d be discussing in class.

History of Magic. It could be an interesting class. Sometimes. It was why she was taking it at NEWT level. One couldn't move forward well if they didn't study the past. They didn't need to keep making past mistakes, so knowing the past was important. Sometimes history was boring, but Hattie liked it. She smiled to herself, going over her mental to do list in her head. She had things to do after this lesson before she settled into her evening of studying. But first, she had to go to this lesson. Hopefully it would be fun.
She smiled, looking up at the ceiling as she looked at it. She loved that it was enchanted like the great hall ceiling. "Hello Professor" The prefect murmured, nodding politely at the Professor, before she headed to find herself a seat. Once seated, she took her parchment and quills out. Yep. She was ready now.

By now it was a common sight, the Ravenclaw walking into the classroom with her nose buried deep in her book. This time, it was the copy of the necromancer's diary whose front and back covers she'd cast an illusion charm on to reflect something of lighter reading. The last thing she needed was attention or strange looks when--that also led to questions.
"Hello Professor." She managed as she took her seat and carefully placed the book down before her. It was a section she'd already read but in light of certain developments, she felt the need to read it again.
What better time than during History of Magic class? Surely the Professor wouldn't mind. He didn't seem to mind anything.

Rylee made her way into the classroom her blue eyes seeking out the ceiling first. Being greeted with a clear blue sky along with some stray clouds had the young girl smiling brightly. As soon as her lessons were through for the day she knew she would be heading outside to enjoy the lovely weather.
Right now she had a lesson to get through first. "Hello, Professor Curtains." Rylee smiled as also finding herself a seat and slipping down onto the chair. One by one she took out some parchment, her textbook and a quill setting the items neatly on her desk. Now that she was ready for the lesson to begin it would be okay if she looked up at the sky through the ceiling of the room for a few moments. That was always what she seemed to do while waiting for the lesson to begin.

Josie came in and nodded to the professor, "Good morning professor." She gave a small smile before she took her usual seat. Taking a look around she tried to get an idea of what they might be studying for the new class though she saw no hints or help anywhere. Huh... Seems odd.. She kept the thought to herself and pulled out her parchment and quill, ready for whatever the class had to offer.

The main pro to this class? It was only on the first floor, which meant Skylar could wait until the last minute to sprint up the staircases from the dorm. Or well, the Great Hall, since that was her other favorite location lately. Although if Skylar was being honest, she was ready to be DONE with Hogwarts. Did all seventh years feel this way? Sure she still had NEWTs to take and she still had some more universities to hear back from in either the positive or the negative, but she was over Hogwarts. She was over some of the people here. She was just done.
Setting her bags onto a desk near the window, she gave a halfway smile at the Professor, with a rather mellow "Good day," and slid onto the seat. Alright, let's get this over with. Cause it meant one step closer to graduation. And yes, she did still have like three months, but she was counting down.

Patrick shuffled in, a muffin in his hand as usual. He was always starving. And his mama swore he had hollow legs at this point, never ending hunger ravaged Patrick. With a quick smile and a "Good morning Professor" he grabbed a seat finishing his muffin before class began. He needed both hands to write down all of the things that he would have to take note of. Although, he was praying to the wizarding gods because he didn't want his stomach to grumble like it had in Potions the other day... man was Nobel angry.
Was Juni the only one that thought that every ceiling in the castle should be like this one and the one in the great hall? At least you would always know what the weather looked like outside. It would be a lot easier to know how to dress for the day. Or cloud watching that was always fun.
She headed to her seat and greeted the professor with a smile. ”Hello Professor!’ She slid into the seat next to Slate and grinned at him. Also, she really like Chloe’s idea about an outdoor lesson. Chloe got a grin too and a thumbs up from her. Good suggestion C.
Though she found those a little distracting, but so was the enchanted ceiling. She definitely knew where she was going after the lesson. Her boyfriend would down for some outdoor studying right? She nudged him in the side with her elbow. Class was going to start soon, yeah?

"Well hello Ms. Walsh!" he greeted the happy Hufflepuff with a cheerful smile. "I am indeed well. Thank you for asking. I hope you are too."
SPOILER!!: Maddie
Was it just her, or were the classes really piling on lately? Maybe it was just the fact that the school year was almost to an end. It just seemed like she had a lot more work to do than she usually did. She shrugged to herself as she continued down the corridor and toward the classroom. As she opened the door, she paused. Had she accidentally entered the Great Hall by accident or something?

On that note, she headed toward a seat and started getting herself situated. She passed a smile to Emmalyn. Was it just her, or were they always the first two in class?
The second student to walk through those doors was also Hufflepuff. Charles assumed these two were good friends, they always seemed to enter class together. "Hello Maddie. Hope you are well."
SPOILER!!: Chloe
"Good day, Professor!" Chloe bounced into class and waved at the professor before finding her seat. The charmed ceiling was super cool, although she wondered if she was going to be distracted by interesting clouds floating overhead. Like that one... that one was shaping up to be a goat jumping over a flowering bush. And the one behind it was a dog chasing its tail.
So. Focus. Had she already said hello to the professor? "Have you ever considered teaching outside?" Since they could already see the sky.
"Good day to you too, Chloe!" he said, smiling. Chloe's happy attitude was always infectious. Her question was a good one. "I'm afraid I've never considered teaching outside. But why not, we already have the ceiling enchanted. I'll have to consider it." He'd always just assumed that teaching inside this classroom was the way to go. Maybe next term he'd do a few lessons outdoors.
SPOILER!!: Mr. Ryker
"Hello Mr. Slate Ryker. I trust you are well today."
SPOILER!!: Daisy
Daisy entered the History of Magic classroom, smiling as she gazed up at the enchanted ceiling. "Good morning, Professor Curtains. How are you?" Daisy greeted as she then made her way to a seat next to Emmalyn, sat down and began to get ready for the lesson.
Charles smiled at the cheerful Hufflepuff. "Good morning to you too, Daisy. I am well, thanks for asking. I hope you are well too." Hopefully she would like the lesson he had planned!
SPOILER!!: Ronan
He already knew one class he wouldn't miss once he'd graduated: this one. Nothing against the professor, just that he did nothing to spice up his lessons, nor was there any debating that ended up happening. Just constant note-taking, which made it very easy to let the mind wander. Still, he didn't think it was a good idea to skip class with NEWTs so close, so here he was.
"Hello, Professor Curtains," he greeted, finding a seat and completely ignoring the ceiling.
"Hello Mr. Carter. Find a seat. I hope you are well." He definitely got the impression that Ronan didn't like his classes all that much, but at least he engaged with the subject and never showed up late.
SPOILER!!: Stasya
"Good day to you too, Claire," he returned her cheerful greeting with a small smile of his own. It was nice to see almost everyone was happy today. The weather probably had something to do with it. "Find a seat. Lesson is about to begin!"
SPOILER!!: Hattie
History of Magic. It could be an interesting class. Sometimes. It was why she was taking it at NEWT level. One couldn't move forward well if they didn't study the past. They didn't need to keep making past mistakes, so knowing the past was important. Sometimes history was boring, but Hattie liked it. SPOILER!!: Jessa

What better time than during History of Magic class? Surely the Professor wouldn't mind. He didn't seem to mind anything.
A Ravenclaw with her nose in a book strolled in. Of course it was Jessa, who seemed to do this a lot. It was actually an admirable quality, though Charles often wondered what books she read. They looked light, but she specifically told him an a previous lesson that he wouldn't approve of her books. "Hello Jessa. That looks like a nice book."
SPOILER!!: Rylee
Rylee made her way into the classroom her blue eyes seeking out the ceiling first. Being greeted with a clear blue sky along with some stray clouds had the young girl smiling brightly. As soon as her lessons were through for the day she knew she would be heading outside to enjoy the lovely weather.

Now that she was ready for the lesson to begin it would be okay if she looked up at the sky through the ceiling of the room for a few moments. That was always what she seemed to do while waiting for the lesson to begin.
"Hello Rylee," the professor greeted the happy Gryffindor with a smile. He loved students admiring the sky. That was one of the reasons he enchanted the ceiling to reflect it, after all, so it was nice that it wasn't ignored by everyone.
SPOILER!!: Josie
Josie came in and nodded to the professor, "Good morning professor." She gave a small smile before she took her usual seat. Taking a look around she tried to get an idea of what they might be studying for the new class though she saw no hints or help anywhere. Huh... Seems odd.. She kept the thought to herself and pulled out her parchment and quill, ready for whatever the class had to offer.
'Good morning Josie!" he said, catching himself in time to prevent him from calling her Josephine. Calling a student by their nickname was best, he decided, if they had one. "Find a seat. Lesson is about to commence!"
SPOILER!!: Skylar
The main pro to this class? It was only on the first floor, which meant Skylar could wait until the last minute to sprint up the staircases from the dorm. Or well, the Great Hall, since that was her other favorite location lately. Although if Skylar was being honest, she was ready to be DONE with Hogwarts. Did all seventh years feel this way? Cause it meant one step closer to graduation. And yes, she did still have like three months, but she was counting down.
"Good day to you too, Sky. I hope you are well. Class is about to commence."
SPOILER!!: It's a beautiful day, Max!
Max stifled a yawn as he dragged himself into the History of Magic classroom. Had he been up studying all night? Nooooope, he'd received the latest issue of his favourite comic and it had been a page turner.
"G'morning," he mumbled, slumping into the nearest available seat.
'Good morning, Max!" the professor greeted the very tired looking Slytherin. "Fine day to be active, no?"
SPOILER!!: Patrick
Patrick shuffled in, a muffin in his hand as usual. He was always starving. And his mama swore he had hollow legs at this point, never ending hunger ravaged Patrick. With a quick smile and a "Good morning Professor" he grabbed a seat finishing his muffin before class began. He needed both hands to write down all of the things that he would have to take note of. Although, he was praying to the wizarding gods because he didn't want his stomach to grumble like it had in Potions the other day... man was Nobel angry.
"Good morning Patrick, hope you are well." He smiled at the hungry Slytherin as he settled down on a seat and prepared for class. Charles did not mind students bringing snacks to class. Just so long as they didn't bring a whole meal.
SPOILER!!: Juni
He smiled at Juni as she came in and nodded to return her greeting. "Good day Juni! How are you? Settle down. Lesson is about to begin." Hopefully she would like the lesson!
Now that everyone was seated...
Charles opened the drawer on the desk directly in front of him and removed a coin from within. He held it up between two fingers so everyone could see. "I discovered this coin just yesterday while roaming the school grounds for a morning walk. Several coins just like this have been discovered in the past weeks, some of them by you. Curious, right? Wouldn't it be interesting to know the backstory of these coins?"
Flipping the coin in the air a few times, he then set it aside and cleared his throat. "But these coins are just the latest mysterious objects to be discovered within school grounds. It never ceases to amaze me just how many extraordinary and mysterious things have happened within these very walls, and how many magical artifacts have been found - and just within the last thirty years!" From the day it was founded, through the days of Tom Riddle and Harry Potter and through the Book of Mysteria all the way to the present, Hogwarts had always been a fun and scary place.
"I want you to think back on any location or object within this school. It can be a hallway, a dormitory, a mirror, anything. Then tell me something extraordinary that happened at that place or with that object. Let's see what we come up with!"

So Professor Curtains had discovered a coin, too?! She wondered if HE had been attacked by pixies the same way Maddie had when she had discovered a coin. When he mentioned the back story behind the coins, Maddie perked up. So he knew who was leaving the coins and why?! Why hadn't he said something before now?! Did the headmistress know?!
Oh. Wait. He didn't know, did he? That had been just an elaborate introduction to the lesson. She thought about what he'd mentioned about mysterious objects or locations. One popped into her mind right off the bat. "There's the Room of Requirement," she said, raising her hand. "Dumbledore's Army used the room for their headquarters and practice area."
There were a TON of mysterious objects and rooms at Hogwarts, though! She found herself thinking about mirrors and statues that she knew were so much more than what they first appeared to be. Were the coins actually something else, too?
Made of Awesome | Ern-la the Best-wa | TZ's Apogee
Hogwarts was a place full of history, but it was full of individual people's stories. Not all of it was noteworthy, but that didn't make it less than important. The people who made friends, learned something new, experienced something terrible, fell in love, fell out of love... those were history. Noteworthy to the people who experienced them.
But the professor didn't mean those small things. He meant the kind of things in books, that everyone knew and cared about. Chloe gnawed on her lip before raising her hand. "What about the suits of armor? They're not just decorative pieces. They're... they have charms on them so they can fight if Hogwarts needs them. They were activated during the Battle of Hogwarts. That's kind of amazing, right?"
Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when
Daisy immediately raised her hand as she thought of magical objects. "There was the Mirror of Erised that Albus Dumbledore owned which showed the heart's desire of the person looking into the mirror. I believe in Harry Potter's First-Year, that is how he acquired the Philosopher's Stone."
Emmalyn shuddered a bit, remembering her encounter with the biting garden gnome down by the paths. Sure, she had found a pocket's full worth of coins, but she still had some marks where the little critter bit her ankle.
Thinking back a bit more, she was trying to remember all of the fascinating things that she had encountered while at Hogwarts. It was hard to separate which things were extra special and which ones were probably ordinary wizard things. The pictures moved. That was extraordinary to her, but seemed common to her non muggle family friends.
After a few moments of thinking, she remembered the time she was in the corridors and one of the statues moved. She still wasn't sure if that was what Professor Curtians was looking for, so she decided to wait quietly to see what the others had to say.

Uh, duh, anyone who had visited the tapestry on display here at Hogwarts knew the backstory of the coins (that is, if the creator of the tapestry was a reliable source). The real mystery was why the coins were just showing up now, centuries later. But instead of pointing that out, Ronan simply thought about how to answer the question asked of the class.
"The Headmaster's Office, where Harry Potter found out that Severus Snape had been a double agent, was in love with Harry's mum and he himself was the last of Voldemort's Horcruxes." Those were some very important revelations, at least to him.

Those coins. Septimus had heard about the coins though he hadn’t found or even seen one of them. Very curious indeed, the Ravenclaw wouldn’t mind learning about anything they might know about them. The other discovery the second year had been witness to underwater in the Black Lake, dealing with grindylows in the process. As for other interesting discoveries, he was sure his mum could add to the stories that could be told.
Professor Curtains wanted them to give a room or object? Septimus listened to the first options being offered. Room of Requirement was a good one…as was the Mirror of Erised. Oh and the suits of armor. Now he had to think of something to contribute to the discussion. It took a few moments before he remembered something from a story he had been told. “The library. Well, the restricted section. Where some students and staff dealt with a magical fairy tale book.”

As the professor had gotten her name entirely wrong, Stasya had let her mind wander on the topic of wondering if he’d ever actually gotten it right. Not that it entirely mattered, but she didn’t think it was that difficult. all the other professors didn’t seem to have a problem remembering her name. Of course, she wasn’t about to make a big deal over it either. Idle wondering wasn’t a bad thing, as long as she paid attention to the lesson when it started…and as he’d held up the coin, her attention was definitely gotten. Anything related to the lake treasure was going to get her attention now, if just because grindylow attack memories.
People had already started suggesting ideas, answers to the question posed. And all her ideas were being quickly mentioned, yet she found herself raising her hand still. “There’s the Whomping Willow? It’s obviously magical, but it also hides the secret passageway to the Shrieking Shack.” The so very not haunted Shrieking Shack because it had just been where Remus Lupin had hidden when he was transforming into a werewolf. Plus, it had been where Harry Potter had found out who had actually been to blame for his parents’ deaths.

”It’s absolutely brilliant.” She replied to the Professor’s comment, feeling none in the least bit inclined to expound any further. She’d meant it when she told him some months back that he wouldn’t approve of the sorts of books she read. This wasn’t open for discussion.
And so the class discussion began.
Something about coins turning up (most likely not as harmless as the Professors thought but wasn’t that always the case?). The question itself went right over her head as she finished off another sentence and while the responses of her classmates did give her some indication of where it was going, the Ravenclaw made the conscious decision to turn the page and continue reading.
The necromancer’s observations were interesting—to say the least—and given the latest development with her felines, his words proved all the more intriguing.
Suffice to say she’d definitely prefer getting lost in his words than those of her classmates.
Shrieking Shack? Fairytale book?
......right.
