| | Flying Lesson 1: How to train like an athlete Banner credit: Suziella On November 27th, snowflakes were falling down to add to the thin layer of snow already covering the pitch and the rest of the school grounds. Haraldur prepared the afternoon lesson by neatly stacking a pile of black notebooks on the small table he’d set up on the pitch. The snow crunched below his heavy boots so he swung one leg to mount his broom instead, hovering slightly above the ground. It wasn’t that cold out, plus the kids would soon forget about it, he was sure.
For now though, they still had a few minutes to arrive before he started the lesson. The flying instructor leaned back on his broom and glanced up at the castle to catch a glimpse of the first arriving students. ooc: Hello everyone and welcome to the first ooc flying lesson of the term *wiggles* It’s a gooden!
Settle in, keep warm and have a chat amongst yourselves. <3 As always, the flying rules as well as all site rules apply at all times. But you know this. You know it. Stella Marie Reed Daily Prophet News Reporter | a bit of madness is key | miss chanandler bong | those cunning folks use any means Haraldur mostly stayed next to the cones to watch the students zig-zag their way across the pitch but now and again he circled back to where they dropped down and rolled around in the snow, which he had to admit did look like fun. One of the first years caught his attention as her foot got hoked around her broom and she fell face forward into the snow. "Up you go again, Miss McMarthy!" He called over to her, hoping she'd landed somewhat softly. "Just a few minutes left!"
The flying instructor zoomed up next to the cones, his big, heavy coat whipping in the wind behind him. He glanced over to where students began gathering again, out of breath but after completed exercise. The snow fell heavier now and it was definitely time to wrap up the class.
The horn sounded again. "Let's gather around again!" He called as he returned to the small group of students. He waited until they were all gathered again and allowed them all to catch their breaths. "Well done, everyone! Well done!" He smiled at the group and brushed some snow off his coat. "Wasn't that FUN?" He didn't wait for an answer. "The hard part is over. It's time for some cool down. It's always good to end your exercise with some stretches or light exercise to get your heart rate back to normal. I want you all on your brooms again to collect all the cones and bring them back here. If you're able, you can always stretch out your arms, neck and shoulders on the broom whilst doing so. When you get back here with the cones, please leave them in the trunk next to the school brooms before grabbing a notebook here from the table." As he said this, he looked down at the pile of ordinary, black journals. The top one was completely covered in snow so he brushed it off and quickly cast a hot-air charm on the books to dry them off. "I'll let you know what to do with the notebooks as you each have grabbed one." Get to it! ooc: this is a little late due to RL stuff that just oooverwhelmed me these last few days. thank you for sticking with me <3
Main activity 2nd part:
Cool down: Collec the cones and put them back in the supply trunk. Grab a journal on the table.
We'll continue and wrap this up in 24 hours, Monday 11th June, 5 pm CET.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Daehyun "Daniel" Yoon Third Year | Oh, thank Merlin, THE HORN. The horn Daehyun had been waiting for! His salvation!
... he couldn't breathe. It was freezing cold outside, but he was sweating as if he were in the desert. The damp strands were long pushed back into what resembled a bird's nest, his undershirt was soaked, and he was going to catch his death if the class didn't end soon so he could go take a hot shower. Was that fun? No? It was torturous and excruciatingly painful - maybe that was what the Cruciatus Curse felt like.
And they still had to cool down. Could he do that on the way to the common room?
Oh, Merlin, have mercy on his soul. He just realized he still had so many floors to go up to the Gryffindor tower... why couldn't he be a Slytherin like literally the rest of his whole family... why Gryffindor... whose common room was up in the clouds... Siiiiigh.
But wait. Back on their brooms... and collect the cones? As in, collect them while flying? Meaning, he would have to fly and hold onto the broom with only one hand? Oh, no no no no no. He didn't want to disobey professor Haraldur, and he was truly sorry for it, but he chose to walk and collect the cones, stretching his arms on the way. He couldn't fly one-handed when he wasn't tired. Just - nope.
Once he'd collected them, he returned the cones to the trunk, and grabbed one notebook. Would they be keeping a journal of this painful experience?

| Lovely™ | Captain Hurted | Ariana's Bane | Resident Antagonist | Unparalleled Delight Was it done? Was it over? Had the cardio finished? Please say it had finished. Abra did not want to do anymore jumping over his broom until... ever. Just never again.
Thank Merlin, it was over, and all that was left to do was to collect the cones. Abra sat up on his broom, resisted the urge to salute Baldvinsson (because it would probably make him feel foolish) and soared back out over the pitch. As he went, he leant back, took his hands off the broom, and stretched out his arms and shoulders, before rolling his head around to stretch out his neck.
Having reached an area of the pitch with a bunch of cones still available to be picked up, Abra leaned forward again and scooped up as many as he could while flying low to the ground. Once he had enough to be getting on with (or, you know, as many as he could carry stacked in one hand) he flew back, dumped the lot into the trunk, dismounted from his broom, and scooped up one of the black journals. He flipped the pages of his notebook with a gloved thumb, hoping that Baldvinsson's assignment was not going to be what he thought it was going to be.
Also, thank Merlin for warming charms, right? The exercise had certainly got Abra nice and warmed up - even though he had been sort of rolling on the snowy ground - but he had worried that the cool down exercise would do exactly that. Instead, his charmed clothes were keeping him reasonably toasty, but Abra was still keen to get back inside.

Was it over? ... Was it REALLY over?!
Apparently there was just one little part left--a cool down, and if it was designed to get her heart to pumping correctly again, then she was all for it. She mounted her broom, kicked off, and made a bee-line for the orange cones. She only collected two of them, because that's all she could hold while still holding on to the broom's handle with her other hand. Plus, she was pretty sure the professor wanted everybody to gather the orange cones, not just her.
A few minutes later, she returned with the two orange cones and placed them neatly in the supply trunk. She selected a notebook off the top of the stack then joined the others in waiting to see what they were supposed to do with them. Please don't be a long-term assignment. Please don't be a long-term assignment. Although, Maddie had a feeling it would be. She had a feeling she'd be doing some organized exercise all school year long.

What? That was it? She was all keyed up for a big activity after the cardio, but it was time to cool down. Not wanting to show too much disappointment, Emmalyn quickly hopped on her broom and zoomed off to help collect the cones. After grabbing one cone, she headed for a quick cool down lap of the pitch, stretching her arms, one at a time, above her head and to the sides. Her flight pattern was a slow lazy zig zag around the pitch, coming to an end where she could drop off the cone and zip back to the class area.
Once on the ground again, she placed her own broom gently down and meandered over to grab a notebook. A notebook that was probably going to be a lot of work over the next couple of months. She just knew there was going to be some sort of journal they would have to keep or goal making and tracking to be done.

Well, she wasn’t exactly sad that the les almost had ended, it had became colder and she was tired from the exercise but, she was still more than willingly to step on her broom again and to fly some more. Collecting the cones wasn’t that hard, especially not now that she didn’t needed to try hard to do it good, all what she needed to do was fly a little, stretch her muscles and grab a few cones while doing so, nothing was hard about that! So only a few minutes later she had two cones under her arms while flying still stable toward the trunk where she put them away where they belonged. But, stepping from the broom was a little sad, she loved it to fly but, she hoped, next time she could do more fun things than just exercise… Leaving her broom behind she grabbed a journal, she said goodbye to the teacher and left quickly, hoping that it would be warmer inside the castle and… She wanted to put some clean clothes on, she was smelling!

| Arts TRANSPONSTER! DONE already??? Anna kept moving for a bit longer because she LOVED this and flying was literally the best class they had and she wished it would last longer. How come History of Magic lasted at least FIVE times longer than flying!?!?!?!? Or at least that was what it felt like. MAN. How unfair.
The Gryffindor jumped over her floating broom and rolled underneath it a few more times as her classmates followed the next set of instructions BECAUSE. That was the best part and she didn't want it to end. This class ending meant the next one was coming soon and that one wasn't flying and UGH, NOOOOO.
Anna continued with it until she couldn't not be noticed that much - being the last one to stop jumping and rolling was eventually going to draw way too much attention and that wasn't really what she was going for. Not at that moment, at least. Leave that for Quidditch matches.
The third year then flew around almost half-heartedly to collect the remaining cones and take them back to the trunk near the school brooms. The girl did grab a notebook because at LEAST flying homework wasn't half as bad as Potions homework, that was for sure. She assumed they were for homework, anyway. |

Oh, no people saw her!
Spitting out some snow she jumped back up to her feet. If she was at home and she heard her brother's voice asking if she was alright the tears would have come. She would have made it super dramatic so mom or dad came out and gave her attention, but this was school, this was flying class and Professor B, so she turned to Gunnar and gave him and big okay sign with her hand. "I'm good Gunnar!" Now worries big brother, she could do this. but maybe find him for baby sister dramatic attention later
Looking to the professor she nodded, "I'm good sir" and to prove it she jumped over the broom and rolled in the snow a few more times like she was really supposed to.
Once he called to them again she grabbed her broom and headed closer. Back on their brooms? Well she didn't have to be asked twice and jumped right on her broom. Gather cones, she could do that. Leaning forward Chloe slowly took off and leaned down to pick up a total of three cones. As she moved she did her stretching he told them to do. It felt good to get to have some fun.
Landing she tucked her broom under her arm and took the cones to the trunk. She knew she'd have to put the school broom away too, but for now she'd keep it with her. Going over to the table she grabbed a notebook and then waited to see what it was about.

| Welp. More ketchup! It went all over my shirt!!!! YesJess! | Captain Goggles | Mama Badger | Eva's Soul Sister | An OG™ | It's all in the Numbers These challenges weren't terribly difficult, given her experiences with quidditch - both the Slytherin team and the Under 17 and then quidditch camp before that. What was difficult was focusing because even if she could practically fly in her sleep, something she'd likely done before and wouldn't recommend, it was Gunnar's sister falling face first into the snow that broke her reverie. OKAY. Use the broom as an obstacle. Be the obstacle. The only thing standing in her way was herself, yes she'd heard that all before.
Fortunately her long legs made jumping over her broom as a hurdle something easy enough to manage without too much effort. The seventh year leaped and then dove backwards under her broom, and repeated, her focus there just enough to manage the jumps without injury but not quite enough to keep count. Considering she'd repeated the exercise probably six or seven times before deciding it was enough and time to return to the zig-zag again. Which she was about to start doing, when Professor B was calling them all to gather around? Merlin, time certainly flew by during flying classes? Why couldn't it fly this fast during something boring like Herbology? Quickly exerting her broom forward through the cones as fast as she could manage without getting nauseous, Skylar hurried on down and hovered at just above the ground as she listened. Ah yes, cool down. See, that was the part that she ALWAYS managed to forget during workouts. Warming up she always did, but cooling down, well, it was the forgotten task.
Slowly flying back off towards the cones, she moved her arms into light circles as she'd done during her warmup, trying to relax and regain her focus that hadn't really been there from the start. Dropping two cones lightly into the trunk, she took one of the notebooks from the stack. Probably some assignment on documenting one's activity, if she had to guess...

Hogwarts RPG Name: Addison Ayers First Year | Kye could feel the cold snow hitting her face as she flew, and her body was feeling confused on whether it was warm or cold. When she finished fairly early, she decided to watch some of the younger students, wondering who would make up the Quidditch team next year. Who would be captain? After a bit, there was another horn and Kye snapped out of thought. She zoomed off to get some cones for the professor, and brought them down to the trunk as asked. There on the table were the notebooks that she needed, and Kye realized she had already forgotten the mention of a long term assignment earlier… She picked a journal up from the table, grateful for Professor Baldvinsson’s charm on it. |

Now for the fun was really going to start. While many of the other students were probably complaining and already tired. But not her. Nope she was ready again to hop back on her broom. Which she did, she was probably back on it long before Professor Baldvinsson had said Go!
She zoomed off zig zaging past the cones. Turning left and right like zigzags often turned. She increased her speed just because she was doing this with such ease. Maybe she had sped up a little too much because the broomtail hit one of the cones as she got a bit too close to it in one of the zigs.
She skidded in the air. Luckily she was on the last cone and had a straight away. So no other collisions happened. She hopped off her broom leaving it hoovering at her knees. She leapt over her broom and landed on her feet on the other side of her broom. She dropped and rolled under back over her broom and repeated that four more times before remounting her broom again to fly through the zigzagged cones. Midway through she wondered if she was suppose to stop and jump over her broom again at the end.
When she got to the end she went ahead and done the jump and roll over and under her broom. She picked up her broom after she had finished and gathered back around with the others even before the horn sounded.
With the next set of instructions Juni mounted her broom and started collecting the cones. She stretched her arms out as she fly by a few of the cones. Then she touched back down and returned the cones back to the trunk. Dismounting her broom, and carrying it back over to the where the black journals were. She picked up one and headed back over to the group. She had a strong feeling of what kind of assignment this was going to be.

Stella Marie Reed Daily Prophet News Reporter | a bit of madness is key | miss chanandler bong | those cunning folks use any means With a swift flick of the wrist, the few cones that were still left out on the pitch, all levitated back to the where the group was. They hovered past the kids, shrugged a few times in the air to get the snow off them before they were dropped down into the trunk again. Haraldur aimed his wand at the trunk and it quickly shut and locked. "Good job everyone!" He said, once all the equipment was safely returned and the notebooks distributed. "Before I let you leave to go take a warm shower, I want you to remember what you learnt in today's lesson. There are many types of exercise but motivation, goal and focus is applicable to all forms. You will show this in a long-term assignment which will be up as soon as the holiday season is over." He either ignored or was ignorant of the possible grimaces. "This spring, you will create a project and keep a training log in these journals. When you're planning your long-term assignment, keep in mind what we talked about on how to set goals and how to properly train to get the most out of your practice."
A sudden gust of wind took a hold of his robe and his hand flew up to his head to keep the red feathers in place. "Keep the journals, I'll have the assignment up and ready by the time you return to school after the holidays." The snow was falling heavier now and he waved a hand at the group. It was time for the kiddos to get back to the castle before they were snowed in. "Class dismissed everyone! Go shower, go eat!" Because that was exactly what he was planning on doing next. Brrr. ooc: And that's it, folks! Thank you so much for coming, participating and putting your characters through all that! I'll leave the thread open for another 12-ish hours if you want to post your characters leaving/complaining about the assignment or whatever else tickles your fancy.
This will be the only ooc flying class this term and instead we're doing the long-term assignment. I'll have the thread up with all the info in a few hours. <3 You'll find the assignment here.

He sighed. Really, there was nothing else he could do. Questions such as what exercises should he do or even where to train popped in his head, but he was too tired and craved a shower too much to think about it right then and there. Maybe after a good night's sleep, he could make a plan.
Defeatedly accepting his fate, he kept the journal and nodded at professor Haraldur with a small, tired smile. "Have a lovely day, professor," he said his goodbyes and dragged one foot in front of the other back to the castle, every muscle in his body aching. Oh, Merlin, the next day was going to be a lot worse, wasn't it?
