Default Flying Lesson 1: How to train like an athlete

Banner credit: Suziella

On November 27th, snowflakes were falling down to add to the thin layer of snow already covering the pitch and the rest of the school grounds. Haraldur prepared the afternoon lesson by neatly stacking a pile of black notebooks on the small table he’d set up on the pitch. The snow crunched below his heavy boots so he swung one leg to mount his broom instead, hovering slightly above the ground. It wasn’t that cold out, plus the kids would soon forget about it, he was sure.

For now though, they still had a few minutes to arrive before he started the lesson. The flying instructor leaned back on his broom and glanced up at the castle to catch a glimpse of the first arriving students.

A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

Standing in the snow, hoping his feet weren't going to get soaked though the shoes he was wearing, Dorian's blue eyes looked over at the black notebooks when the Professor mentioned a long term assignment they were getting at the end of the lesson and he got curious to know what it would be.

But that curiousity wouldn't be satisfied until later as the topic went to excercise. The teenager made a face. He didn't excercise much, unless you counted climbing the thousands YES THOUSANDS! Of stairs every day like Abraham had mentioned. He prefered relaxing, less dangerous things to keep his stress level done. Like...fishing for example!

And then his eyes landed on Daisy and now that he thought about it, he had spend a couple of days in the Defence Against the Dark Arts excercise room. The one where magic was not allowed room. Mweh, it was better than answering nothing cause he did not want to get a 'you should excercise for your health, Dorian' lecture. So he raised his hand.

"I want to get more muscles and strength especially in my arms" he said as he looked at his skinny arms which were in fact getting a bit bigger but that was probably because he was growing up and not because he was excercising right. "Not over the top but ...enough" And he certainly did not want to excercise for his condition. He had a top condition if he had to say so himself. He had to RUN to nearly every class in fear of getting late because he was always JUST in time for them. So yeah, condition wasn't it.

aaaaaand class has finally started. Caleb attentively listened to the professor. The topic somehow falls under exercise which is quite important considering that people tend to be a lot lazier when the weather is colder. Caleb doesn't exercise every single day but he still does it nonetheless. The professor is right after all. Exercising keeps you healthy mentally and physically.

He nodded his head to some of the answers shared by his classmates. He then shot his hand up "i do a quick run every morning before the first class starts" yeah, for about 20 minutes. Nothing too big. "it's a good way to start the day. " better than coffee. Caleb enjoys that. It's also a good way to have some alone time.

Kye hadn’t noticed the stack of notebooks for some reason, perhaps thinking that they were something a student had brought with them. She did have to wonder why he was bringing them up now if he didn’t want to talk about this long term assignment they were learning about… She wondered what they would need to be recording in the coming… days? Weeks? Months?? TELL US!!

As she continued listening to his speech on physical health, Kye thought about her answer. Why did she play Quidditch? Because it was fuuun? Well, yea that made sense… It made her happy that was for sure. Those endorphins though! Did anything beat flying as fast as you could?? “Sir, I find flying to be stress relieving because you’re completely in control, but you have all this flexibility with movement. When I fly, the exhileration of it all leaves my stress on the ground.” Not that that was a reason for exercise, but it sure helped get her out there! You know, strengthening her core and all that too…

The lesson started and it was clear within seconds they weren't going to be flying right away. Why couldn't they get up into the air AND then answer questions? Rylee was already fidgety and in need of movement bouncing on the balls of her feet to keep her excitement at bay. All she wanted to do was fly. Flying was exercise which just so happened to be what Baldvinsson was asking them about.

Exercise. Well that was easy. Stairs and a TON of them. All day everyday. She was active from the very moment she woke up so no worries here about her lacking in exercise. Rylee hopped to the side little by little all the while paying attention to what was being said AND watching where she was going so she didn't bump into anyone, until she was standing beside Reese and Quinn giving them a smile.

Lifting her hand up into the air she gave her answer, "Most mornings I take a quick jog down to the barns to see the creatures for a little bit before breakfast." It's a good start since she's in up in the Gryffindor tower. "I play Quidditch and I dance as well, so doing things like flying, swimming or just running is really helpful. It helps me work on focus and balance or sometimes just to clear my head." Plus it was plan fun. Climbing trees and doing back-flips off the dock into the lake at home. It all kept an overly active mind busy.

"Yes, please! Sir." A warming charm sounded heavenly right now. She'd have done it herself if she knew that one yet. The Professor received a genuine appreciative smile in return.

And then someone was bumping her shoulder playful.
With her hood up, Quinn had to twist her body slightly to confirm it was who she thought it was. Reese. She smiled in reply and quickly took his hand in hers, gave it a quick, gentle squeeze and let go just as quickly before the Professor even had a chance to chide them or kick them out.

And just for precaution, she folded her arms over her chest as she listened to the Professor.

Exercise? Quinn raised an eyebrow under her hood. She got enough exercise just going to and from her common room, thank you very much.

Maddie eyed the notebooks as the professor clamped his hand down on the stack of them. They weren't going to take notes about flying, were they? The third wanted to take to the skies, not write about taking to the skies. Oh. They were part of a long-term assignment? Hmm... That had the potential to be either really, really fun or really, really boring. She'd just have to wait and see. All she knew for sure was that it involved writing...and a lot of it.

Oh, wait...so was this lesson going toward an exercise routine? Maddie's day-to-day functioning was like a ping pong ball bouncing around in a phone booth. That was probably more exercise than any sort of routine she could get involved in. She was listening, though. Then there were all sorts of questions, which had Maddie raising her hand with all sorts of questions in return.

"Professor, I'm pretty much a spastic little ball of constant action," she said. "People have even told me I'm like a ping ping ball in a phone booth. Does that count as physical activity? I don't really have a routine, though." She shrugged. "Now that I'm on the Quidditch team, though, I'll probably have lots of flying exercises."

What was her reasoning for working out? She had plenty of them. To keep fit. To keep in top Quidditch condition. To make her parents angry because Quidditch was the exact opposite of their wishes for her. But most of those answers were already said and the last one wasn't really something she wanted to share with the entire class.

So instead, when it was the Gryffindor's turn to contribute she just shrugged. "Helps me clear my head, I guess," and blow off steam. That's why she liked being a beater so much. It meant she could hit people targets to get rid of any pent up angst. And she had loads of that. Fifth year was rough as ever.

PHILOMATH ❅ not one atom, but two ♪ ♪ made of starstuff ❅ def main():

Sylvie was in a bad mood.

There, that's all anyone needed to know.

Messy blonde hair carelessly pulled up in a bun, Sylvie's hands remained in her pockets as she looked between the students present, 1. because she wanted to find her best friend and hopefully cheer up, and 2. because she needed to see where they were, in order to avoid them. The latter was possibly more important than the former to be honest.

Workouts? "I run every day, sometimes in the morning, most times in the evening. I used to do it so I could fall asleep, but now," side eyes at her, because she stole her answer, "I run because it keeps me fast, and I like being fast."

Also, professor, she did not want long term assingments OR reminds about OWLs this year, thank you very much. Sincerely, Sylvanas UPSET Norcott.

Of course she knew what to answer, she would have been stupid if not, buuuuut, she did not wanted to speak up yet because, why would she? Listening to the others was way more easy!

Haraldur hovered past the older Slytherin towards the Ravenclaw Prefect who looked prepared to answer his question. Leesha wasn't the only one who decided to stay quiet during this first part of the lesson.

Alright was about the best word she could use for it right now. Not happy. Not sad. Just there.

Her nose wrinkled somewhat at the mention of exercise and why they did it and even more at having to wait to figure out the items that were placed before them--could'a left them hidden until needed. Now she would spend at least half the class trying to work it through in her head. The topic made sense, this being flying and all but there were very few things she hated as much.

Of course, over the summer (which now felt like a lifetime away and another world entirely), there'd been some appeal. She could see herself continuing it then and the results were instant but now....back here in the castle where she literally had everything else to focus on, exercise had become the one chore she never usually pushed herself to get done.

"I don't think I've got an important part to my routine and I only exercise because they say I have to."

So really, not a helpful answer at all. Perhaps she'd opt out of answering if they would all turn out that way.

Haraldur tilted his head and nodded thoughtfully at her answer. "Fair enought." He mused. "Getting some air and being physical active does improve your learning abilities."That if anything should intrigue Jessa.

Once class began, she was a little sadden to not be able to immediately hop on her new broom. Sure, she knew it was coming, but flying was what she wanted to do. She raised a gloved hand, "Sir, I exercise to stay in top quidditch playing condition. If I slack off and don't exercise, I get all tired and winded while playing. Plus, it's always a good idea to cross train. I like to run and play softball. It helps keep up my endurance and playing softball helps me with my quaffle throwing."

The snow seemed to be coming down harder, which was even more exciting. Little snowflakes falling while zooming through the air on a broom was beautiful.

Haraldur gave the young Hufflepuff a smile and left Jessa's side to hover over to her. "Quidditch is a good motivation." He agreed. He knew Emmalyn wasn't the only one who had Quidditch as a reason. "An active lifestyle does really help you out there on the pitch."

After they'd been asked the couple of questions Reese's hand was quick to shoot up.. " I like flyin' best.. When I'm flyin' I'm free and I'm able to think better for some reason.. Maybe it's the feeling of the air rushing through my hair.. Maybe it's that feeling of freedom.. But.. It's relaxing.."

Haraldur hovered over to one of the Prichards and listened to his description of flying. "I can only agree with you there, my boy." Haraldur smiled. "There's no better feeling than being on the broom, soaring through the sky." The kid was one the same wavelength as him for sure.

But naturally the topic had to come up in a class he usually did reasonably well in, a class where he also couldn't exactly stand around and say nothing in because of the whole badge situation.

After a moment or two, Abra - bundled up tight against the cold and glad to have mastered those warming charms, because it was that cold out - raised a gloved hand and spoke, his words somewhat muffled through his scarf. "I climb the stairs in the castle, and go all over everywhere for classes. It's not really a workout at all actually, but I'd say it probably keeps me reasonably fit, doing that all day. The important part is that it's consistent." You know, moving every hour or so, going up and down stairs every day, living at the very top of the castle and all that. Really, it was enough for keeping himself light and speedy enough for his Seeker position, he just needed to make sure he didn't overeat. "I also like to swim sometimes, though, and play Quidditch, of course, but that's because they're fun, not because I just want to exercise." It was probably a good idea - as a school sports captain - to say something other than 'I walk around the castle to get to my lessons.'

His Gryffindor Captain spoke up next and Haradur left the small group of Hufflepuffs to hover closer to the boy. Truth be told, Haraldur always took his broom everywhere (staff privileges) for the exact same reason Abraham mentioned. The castle stairs. "Yes, well, the castle does indeed provide more exercise than you might think actually." And of course the boy mentioned Quidditch. Attaboy. Haraldur moved to hover past him and dropped one heavy hand on Abraham's shoulder affectionately. Pat, pat.

WAIT. WAIT.

Oh no. See, Skylar liked writing. She liked exercise. But there was something about mixing the two of them that she didn't like.

Raising her hand, "Stretching first, because without it you could get cramps and sore muscles." Yes, the Slytherin Team, IF they were present, would know that answer because she was very big on stretching before every practice and tryout. As far as her reasoning for exercising. "Exercise for me helps me feel in control. It's something that I can do effortlessly." Uh... what? But it was true, it just felt weird to say that aloud.

Hovering past Abraham, Haraldur moved to his Slytherin Captain. He looked over at Skylar's teammates at her words. Stretching was important to be able to get through an entire game. Hint, hint Slytherins. "Exercising to stay in control is perhaps more common than you'd think." He mused. "It can also become very addictive." Which meant once you stopped you could lose control of other aspects in life. But yes. Control was important. "Very good." He nodded and have her a knowing smile before moving on to the next student.

It wasn't until he asked about exercise that the first year really stop to think. Why was he talking about exercise, shouldn't he be talking about brooms, flying?

"Quidditch Sir" She couldn't help but say that first, that was her biggest reason for exercise and really wasn't that the only reason to do it. "I do whatever training is needed to keep ready for quidditch."

As an 11 year old though most of her exercise didn't seem like exercise to her, it was running around and having fun, though it was keeping her active and fit.

Haraldur hovered over to the first year and smiled proudly at her reply. "Spoken like a true Hogwarts Quidditch player." He nodded. "As many of your class- and teammates, Quidditch is a good motivation to get out and move between or after classes."

Another Quidditch player and another Hufflepuff. Haraldur smiled and hovered over to Daisy. "Quidditch in all its glory but the fact that exercise can help you mentally as well as physically is amazing." The flying instructor nodded in agreement. "Very insightful."

Haraldur quickly took out his wand and aimed it at the young girl. With one swift movement he cast the warming charm on the air around her. "There you are, Miss Kevelle." He said with a smile as he put the wand back into his inner pocket. She decided not to answer his question, which was more than fine. She wasn't the only one. Instead, the flying instructor moved over to a rather excited Hufflepuff.

It was probably the most honest answer that day and of course it was Maddie who'd said it. Haraldur chuckled at her reply. "Being considered a ping pong ball could only be a good thing, Miss Kemp." He started. "And it most definitely sounds like physical activity. In any case, something that is worth cultivating and developing on the pitch." Hint, hint, Bel.

Haraldur moved from Maddie over to last year's Gryffindor Captain. A talented Beater to say the least. "Yes, exercise and Quidditch tend to do that." He agreed. "Especially when there's OWLs to think about." Was he evil for bringing that up for a second time that lesson? Maybe. Either way, he gave her a smile before hovering over to Sylvie.

Running seemed to be a popular way of exercise among the group. It wasn't something Haraldur himself enjoyed but to each their own. "Quite an achievement to go for a jog every day." He mused as he moved to her from Zoryn, completely oblivious to the /side eyes/ Sylvie was giving. "Running is a good way of being active." He agreed reluctantly.

Haraldur had hovered around the group as he listened to their answers but now made his way to the top again. ”Sounds like some of you do like your workout because of the relaxation it gives you while others do it because the fun of it or working towards a specific goal.” The flying instructor shrugged. ”Whatever your reason is, exercise is important, whether you’re a professional athlete or not."

The flying instructor lightly brushed snow off the pile of books on the table before continuing. "Something almost all professionals do however, is set goals for themselves, both short- and long-term. Why do you think that is? Why do you think it’s important to keep track and set goals for your exercise?”

ooc: Another question for you, this one about keeping track of your workout and setting goals for yourself.

You have approx 24 hours, tomorrow 3rd of June 8 pm CET for this one.

REese grinned as the professor agreed with him.. Perhaps they has quite a bit more in common?.. and he wasn't at all surprised when Schmebby at his side didn't answer his question.. She wasn't the go out and exercise type of girl... She was a stay indoors and cozy up with a lovely book type of lass.. And he didn't see anything wrong with that..

And once again his hand went up as more queries were posed to the class. " Sir.. It's important to set goals .. Both short term and long term... Short term to meet long term goals.. Gives ya something to work for... But it doesn't rightly matter whether your making those goals for fitness or career.. When ya meet short term goals it makes ya feel like that long term goal is more attainable.. and that makes ya wanna work harder.. Ya know?.. One motivates the other.. ", he said all proud of himself..

Seriously?!.. How was he not sorted into Ravenclaw?.. Or Slytherin? Long-winded tedious little thing that he was..

Maddie wondered what 'cultivating and developing on the pitch' meant, but she only nodded in reply. Yup. Got that, Professor. All of it.

She knew that exercise was important, but she hated being reminded of that. Organizing her energy into a routine wasn't something she was fond of, but she had a feeling she was about to have to do that very thing. Maddie listened to the professor's question and thought about the answer for about a split second before raising her hand.

"I think it's so they'll know where they came from and where they want to go," she said. "For example, maybe they can run one mile, and then one day, they can run three. So their goal is to run two extra miles." That sounded like a LOT of running to Maddie, but that's what a goal was.

Kirk wasn't too bothered by the cold weather, it kinda came with the territory being outdoors so he was bundled enough to withstand here long enough. Why did he exercise? Well, Quidditch of course. It also felt good and he liked how it made him look in the mirror. Plus, Mel appreciating how he looked after a work out helped as well. He didn't say that aloud though, some things weren't needed to be told.

When it was his turn to answer, "Small goals help to keep you encouraged and on track. Small ones such as promising to walk around the courtyard more is easier and good enough to do than promising to lug a couple trunks around daily." Those were his thoughts on the matter.

"Yeah what he said!" She pointed at Kirk eagerly, "He would know and be super smart being captain and all." Not kissing behind here, just enthusiastic and agreeing with him. He would know all the answers being smart and older and the captain!

"Also, making goals make you want them more especially if you have awards at the end of your goals. Like my mom will give a goal of cleaning your room and after you are done with that you get rewarded with a treat. So if you do that for exercise your reward could be you play better or maybe you have ice cream after a run to reward your self. "

That sounded okay, didn't it?

She never did like setting goals. At least not specific goals. Those always seemed to either be a big let down or failure. Neither of which she enjoyed. She wasn't exactly sure why someone would want to set specific long term goals.

She raised her hand. "Sir, I don't like setting long term goals. Long term goals seem to always lead to failure or frustration. I prefer to keep goals non specific and attainable. Such as, simply trying to have fun while I exercise or doing my best while playing a sport."

Her eyes drifted to the pile of black notebooks on the table and she instantly regretted answering the question. He was probably going to have them make short and long term goals then track them in those books. She hoped she was wrong.

Skylar listened to what the professor had to say and then was talking about short term and long term goals, which to be honest, it was the short term goals that tended to stress her out the most cause they were what she was immediately affected by. Biting her lip she considered last year, how she felt after the first match as captain. And after talking to Marchand and then other things that happened during the year.

"I think, goal setting is also important to know when you've failed too. Because sometimes we don't reach our goals and achieve our dreams and succeed, but that's okay too because we can succeed in other ways even if its in recognizing failure." it was something that she was slowly learning to figure out - accepting failure and not seeing it as a bad thing but as an opportunity.

Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite

Physical activity helped with learning? Well yeah, so did being left around to freely pursue one’s interest. There were many paths to most things leaving her no at all sold on the exercise one

As for goals...

“I don’t know about most people but I usually set goals to challenge myself. Once I’ve gained interest, I decide how much I want to accomplish then see if I really can. It’s like a working marker or checkboard for me to tick off and assess the extent of my capabilities. Every time I hit a stumbling block that prevents me from getting to the next goal, it’s like a small challenge on how to figure a way around it.” Which she obviously enjoyed doing.

Jessa could spend hours dissecting an issue, turning it this way and that, flipping it inside out, in fact, that was when she had some of her most content moments. There was just something about getting the wheels in your brain turning and considering something from all angles.

It wasn’t a sentiment most could appreciate but there it was. She didn’t like going outside and excerising her body, she liked being inside and exercising her mind.

That pat on the back made him jump in surprise. Was it a disappointed pat on the back? Or a there-there, everything's going to be alright pat on the back? It was most likely a disappointed one.

... maybe he should consider working out and getting some strength in his currently useless limbs.

As professor Haraldur brushed the snow off the books, Daehyun still had some hope left that it'd be a theoretical lesson- but then he kept on asking about exercising and goals. Well, he wouldn't know why people set goals for exercising, but he supposed they had the same purpose in any field, so his hand went up. "Maybe to challenge ourselves and know our limits?"

Blowing warm air over her cold hands she shivered, she wanted to do something instead of standing here in the cold, talking, so she needed to distract herself. “I think that it’s better for some to make them to not give up, that way you are working toward something what makes it easier to keep working. And besides… It’s more rewarding for yourself to finish what you’ve started, knowing that you worked hard on something” she said thinking about herself when she had been in her first year…

SPOILER!!: catch up under heeeeere

FRESH AIR! SNOW! FANTASTIC DAY FOR FLYING!

Derf had bolted down to the pitch and, unlike in his youth (har har) he had taken a bit of a more mature stance on the pitch. No mounting the broom and no trying to prove himself to anyone else - though first year him was still quite proud of the little bit of showing off he had done on the school broom back then. Of course he noticed the black notebooks and the Hufflepuff was honestly hoping that those were for them to draw up flight patterns and strategy for quidditch and nothing to terribly academic. It was one thing he enjoyed about Flying, it was a class that allowed him to shut off his brain and rely solely on muscle memory and reflex to navigate through. No facts, no figures, just pure enjoyment.

Please don't say you were going to ruin all that, Mr. Groundskeeper!

Though the promise of a long term assignment was NOT promising foreshadowing.

Bleh.

But the most important aspect of his workout? DOING it. Like, you know, loads of times you tell yourself you're going to do something but then you don't ACTUALLY execute it. So the actual physical act of DOING was the most important bit. To him at least. As for the why he did it...he just sorta did it. He enjoyed physical activity and the only real purposeful exercising he had done as of late was weight training to bulk up for his beater position - hence the arm muscles and broader shoulders and all that.

But, mostly, Derf was just listening while lightly drumming on his broom's handle and shifting his balance between his feet.

Could they get in the air yet?

SO MUCH TALKING.

Could they please just get in the air already? That was his short term goal, yeah?

Derf did not really have much to add to what others were saying either. Though his own goals and ambitions tended to be quite fantastical - like learning Parsletongue - and often times out of reach. But that was how he pushed himself best. You know how the expression went: shoot for the moon and you'll end up in the stars...or something like that. Small term goals were, you know, made things more manageable and less daunting...but easily achieved things didn't motivate and drive Derf.

Still shifting the balance between the balls of both his feet...the fifth year just wanted to get up in the aaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiir. Please?

Zoryn caught the eyes. And she wasn't about to give her the satisfaction of reacting, despite the fact she felt the look as if it were a sharp pain through the chest. Zoryn didn't want to be here. Was sharing a common room not enough? Of course the one class she didn't skip this week happened to be one where she had to stand in close proximity to her.

"Beating your goal is exhilarating. Makes the whole thing worth it." Everything in life was a competition. Even whenever you were competing with yourself.

Couldn't they start flying now? Zor liked that part because she was better at it than Sylvie was.

Ah, man, those shoulder pats. They recalled some bittersweet memories, mostly because of Jaddi and all, but Abra smiled at Baldvinsson all the same. It was nice to have his answer acknowledged like that.

Funny, the flying instructor was really not the first person Abra had heard say about how important exercise was, how it benefited physical and mental health. His healer also went on about it a fair amount, but Abra really had all those bases covered. The stairs in school, Quidditch, swimming, maybe he wasn't as active as some, but he definitely felt more than active enough just based on things he did for necessity and for fun. It did make him wonder how different things might be if he did, say, go for a run every morning, but... well, he wasn't going to do that. Sleeping took precedence.

At the next question, Abra waited a while before raising his hand again, because it was one of those questions where he was sort of worried about giving a stupid answer. In fact, most questions that started with 'Why do you think...?' made him feel that way.

"I think maybe it helps you measure your progress. Also, sometimes it feels easier to do a thing when you're working towards a goal as opposed to when you're just doing something without an aim." Abra bit his lip uncertainly, then tried for an example. "Like... with swimming. I like swimming laps and seeing if I can do a certain amount of laps in a certain length of time. Sometimes even just counting them keeps me, um... engaged or whatever? But if I'm just swimming backwards and forwards for no reason, with nothing to work at, that can feel mega boring, actually. I end up feeling a bit lost."

the area is getting colder or that's what Caleb thinks. He placed both his hands inside his pocket to warm them up. Who knows they might fly today and play a game. The professor poped another question.

Hmm... short term and long term goals. It is important to have either one. You don't have to be an athlete necessarily. Caleb waits for his turn to answer "goals are always important whether they are short term or long term. Especially to athletes, it becomes their spark of motivation. A drive to keep their eyes on the price" or a trophy or a magazine cover.

Rylee switched from bouncing the heels of her feet to rocking back and forth on her feet. Whatever kept her busy and her attention on the professor. The questions moved on from exercise in general to long term and short term goals. Where they talking about exercise wise or just any type of goal?

Staying active helped with her long term goals, like making starter in Quidditch this term. The more active she was, the longer she was able to train and the more difficult the training became. Each short term goal was a building block to something bigger and better just down the line.

Rylee raised her hand when she was ready to give an answer. "For me, I think that short term goals really help in me wanting to do more than I already am. Pushing myself a little bit harder each time to do something I wasn't able to do the day before, maybe it's run a little faster or a little bit longer. Take out three targets in a row during practice instead of two. It lets me see my progress a little bit more easily." Long term goals were good too and she had several of those as well but they went unmentioned for the moment.

Oh, that felt heavenly. Quinn closed her eyes, basking a long moment in the swiftly warming air around her. That was much better. "Thank you, sir."

It was only after she was finally warm in her cone of warmth that she glanced around and noticed Rylee had joined her and Reese. She gave the Rylee a soft smile in greeting, then turned back to the Professor.

And raised a critical eye at the man. Was this really a question? Shouldn't it be quite obvious why setting goals for yourself, in anything, not just exercise, was important? It gave you something to work toward and a time table in which to do so, keeping you on track.

While Quinn generally held a low opinion of how intelligent most humans actually were, even this question seemed a bit too obvious and common sense to require being asked.
