DADA Lesson Two - Peek-a-boo! On a late-April morning, you might find yourself heading towards the first floor for another Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson to learn about another form of the dark arts. Expecting the unexpected might have become the norm but what you might not have expected is how dark the room is. class progression: - MINI ACTIVITY: OOC: Please make sure you're familiar with Hirsch's rules as well as the SS site rules before posting. |
Another Defense Against the Dark Arts class was upon them and she had spent the morning mentally preparing for what was to come. DADA, only second to potions, was a feared class of hers. Something always seemed to go wrong or be extra gross. She took one last deep breath before entering the room, stepped through the door and...took a step back out to make sure she was in the right place. She had no idea what was going on. The room wasn't a room. Well, it was a room, but it was more like the corridor and far too dark to see well. Her heart rate increased and she grabbed her wand, just to be safe. After her eyes adjusted to the dim lighting, she noticed her name was above a door on the far wall. She then noticed the other students names above the doors. "Oh, so that's where everyone is." She whispered as she made her way towards her door. The last thing she wanted to do was to be late for class and it seemed as if all of the others had already entered their doors, so she quick stepped through the darkness, grabbed the handle of her door, and stepped inside. |
Maddie really liked Defense Against the Dark Arts! The professor was awesome and always held a pretty cool class. She was actually in a pretty good mood, but all that came to a sudden halt when she walked into the classroom. It looked like...Halloween had come a little early. Everything was so...dark. She wondered if they were allowed to cast Lumos or something... That probably wasn't even necessary, though, because there were small lanterns floating around the room. They kind of made it seem even more like Halloween. She peered into the oddly-shaped classroom and narrowed her eyes at all the little doors. Uhhh...she was in Defense class, right? She saw Emmalyn enter a doorway, but Maddie wasn't quite that adventurous yet. She roamed the corridor until she found her door, and then with a quick "Lumos" she cast a light toward the door. No way was she just going to dive right on in. |
"Professor, it's so creep... y," Chloe burst out as soon as she entered the room, only faltering when she realized that the professor wasn't even in the room. Or was he? The thing about the Defense Professor was that he was part ninja, so he could be anywhere. In one of those doors. Behind the curtains. Maybe hanging from the ceiling! She spotted her name on the wall, which was more than a little unnerving. Was that her door? Was she supposed to go stand near it? Because it looked more like a tomb than an entrance. "Emmalyn! I wouldn't go in there. Not until the professor says so." They might need special tools. |
Slate squinted as he walked into the... classroom? He backed out, checked to make sure it was the correct door, before stepping back in... He light his wand with a "Lumos" before continuing forward. He noticed a few of the other students looked as confused as he felt. He noticed, as he wandered deeper, that the doors had names above them. Soon he came across the one with his name. He examined the door, curious as to what was going on. |
Mention of Chloe and Emmalyn Time for another Defense Against the Dark Arts lesson. Septimus made his way towards the classroom since the class notice hadn’t mentioned anything else only to be greeted with the dreary dark room and confused classmates. “Lumos!” he cast as he entered to add to the little light already there. His eyes taking in as much of the room as he could to try and be aware of the surroundings. He might only be a second year but between his head of house’s drilling of constant vigilance and his mum’s comments on things happening in the school, the second year would want to be cautious. It was then he noticed the named doors. “What in Merlin’s beard?” He turned in the direction of a fellow second year as Chloe, an elder Ravenclaw drew his attention to her. “Yeah…maybe we have to wait for instructions before entering.” |
Okay, this had to be the weirdest setup yet. I mean, Professor Hirsch wasn't exactly known to keep a normal classroom setup (in fact, just the opposite) but doors with THEIR NAMES ON THEM?! As Chole said, creepy. So much so that Ronan had his wand out and at the ready, eyes moving around the room taking in everything, looking for any potential threat. Once he reached the door bearing his name, he cast a silent 'SpeRevelio' on it. He wasn't going in without being sure... |
Daisy entered the classroom and became slightly nervous due to the amount of darkness that surrounded her. She quickly reached for her wand and cast, "Lumos," so that she could get a better scope of her surroundings. Her eyes then saw a door with her name emblazoned above it. Daisy started to walk towards it but stopped when she was a few inches away from it, her wand aimed at the door. |
DADA wasn’t necessarily her best subject, but it was definitely one of Stasya’s favorites. Not surprisingly, for the reason of Professor Hirsch being the instructor, just because she trusted him above all the others. Even if the actual subject had given her pause more often than not because it reminded her of things. Things that the professor knew, and that she tried to push through however she could because she didn’t want to let anyone down. Plus, she felt like she had to prove that her skill in dueling wasn’t a fluke, even if the lessons didn’t involve dueling. She just knew she’d fight to accomplish successfully casting the spells they learned no matter what. The darkness that greeted her upon arriving, however, brought her to a pause just inside the door. “Lumos,” she cast quietly, wanting light but not wanting to draw the attention of anything lurking inside the darkness. Since that was entirely possible, after all. The fact she didn’t see Professor Hirsch around anywhere made her suspicious too. He had to be around there somewhere, and she was going to stay vigilant. Vigilant with her wand lit, as bright as she could make it with the simple spell. Plus, there was no way she was going inside the creepy door with her name glowing above it. Instead, she placed herself in front of it, ready for whatever might happen. Hopefully. |
Defence against the dark arts was one of her favourite subjects. It wasn't her best, which was sad, but she liked it. It wasn't surprising. Not when it was considered that two of her siblings were training to be aurors. Hattie wasn't following that career bath, but she did like the subject. So she had a big smile on her face as she headed towards the classroom. Hopefully it would be a fun lesson. They always were though, so she didn't have to hope. Hopefully though, there would be no drama this time. Ahh. This was different. It was dark, not like it usually was. There were a few others here though, so she knew she was in the right place. "Hmm..." The blonde murmured as she stepped into the classroom, which looked more like a corridor today. She got her wand out, noticing that there were doors with their names on. Interesting. She didn't say much, but quickly found the door that had her name above it. Now what? Hmm. Guess they would have to wait and find out. |
.... ..... She knew she should have skipped class today. Nevermind that this one was taught by her Head of House who would have obviously noticed her absence. There'd been a feeling. She ignored that feeling and now there was a dark corridor like structure with doors that led Merlin knew where. The fact it had their names on it DID peaked her curiosity but not enough to dislodge her from her spot just outside the door to the classroom. From there she watched the others lighting their wands. That Hufflepuff was even willing to take the first steps in. "No. I think she should go." She contracted Chloe and Septimus who'd suggested otherwise. "If the Professor wanted us to keep out, he'd have said as much or put the right measures in place to ensure we can't enter at all. I'd like to know what's inside and I doubt it'd be anything fatal otherwise it'd be under heavy lock and key." Did they see? If entering wasn't allowed then there would be no means to enter. She would herself but the space inside the classroom left her hella uncomfortable...to say the least. |
Why was it so dark in here? Pulling out her wand and casting 'Lumos' the second year slowly moved her wand around as she moved in a circle. Besides it being dark and the very strange setup, what was up with all those doors?!, nothing else seemed out of the ordinary. Seemed. She knew better now... looks could be very deceiving. Rylee continued to move forward offering a light smile or a quiet greeting to her fellow classmates. When she reached the door with her name above it she stood there for a long moment just looking at it. Did they go through the doors or wait? Where was Hirsch? A quick 'finite' made the light of her wand go out. She knew two spells she could try... if either would work was beyond her. First she was going to attempt to find out if the professor was lurking somewhere in the room as she thought he most likely was. "Homenum revelio," she cast knowing it wouldn't work but at least for her own sake of mind having to try. Sooner or later she would be able to cast that spell with much more confidence and know it would work. Despite her previous failure Rylee turned her attention onto the door with her name and tried casting "SpeRevelio" on it. When nothing happened she wasn't sure if the door was safe or if these spells were way to difficult, it was more likely the latter having only really learned them from her older sister. Taking a breath she reached out, turned the handle on the door and used her foot to push it open the rest of the way. "Lumos," was once more quickly cast allowing her to use the light in hopes of seeing inside the room without stepping inside. Hopefully if anything was going to jump out at her she would be ready... Look at her trying to think before actually doing something! |
Josie came into class and glanced around, squinting to try to see her way around, to no avail. And no sign of her teacher either, which seemed odd, but she figured she would try to still be polite, "Um... Hello profe-" And she managed not notice a bench in front of her, sending her tumbling to the ground, "... Ow..." The thirteen year old slowly sat up, brushing off her robes, hoping the dim lighting would hide her blatant blush of embarrassment. It was already wonderful to be known as the quiet one, now this would surely add to others thinking she was just odd and unapproachable. She stood up slowly and glanced around to try to get a better idea of her surroundings before she even tried to move again. |
Skylar had a love-hate relationship with Defense. On one hand, she had managed to excel beyond belief with her OWL examination, but she always seemed to struggle when it came to the dueling aspect of things. She was definitely far more great when it came to theoretical application and how it related to curses and cursebreaking; which was why she considered that as a plausible field for training. Hirsch was a decent professor too and unlike some of her other classes, he'd been there since her first year. Which meant she definitely trusted him and his lessons were usually enjoyable. Although she did have to admit the irony when she entered the Defense class that morning because the gloominess of the classroom one hundred and ten percent matched her mood of the past few months. No Hirsch though? Somehow she doubted that, because even though he wasn't visible, she was nearly positive he was there even if he couldn't be seen. He liked to do that. The seventeen year old cautiously observed each of the doors, only half listening to what some of her peers were saying. Wait. Was that ... names... Vivian Fairfield ... Felicity Harrington ... okay, so where was hers? Her heart skipped a beat at the next name. Apollo Kennedy. Okay, she was just going to keep walking. Aha. Finally. Skylar Diggory. Now what that she'd found her door? Try to go through it .... or? Wait for Hirsch? Yes, the latter. Even though she was completely and irrevocably impatient, after seven years of Defense classes and well, Hogwarts classes in general, waiting for further instructions was prudent to success. |
The magical light from students's wands won't do much to illuminate the surroundings. Even worse, the SpeRevelio spells cast revealed very little.... But something that did happen, whether it's because of the spells or not, might not be very comforting either. The doors for anyone who hasn't entered their room suddenly opens with a resounding creaaaaaak, inviting you inside... A very dark, and quite small, inner room lies ahead. There are no lanterns in there and no sense that there's anything else in the room. It's almost as if you've got a blindfold wrapped around your eyes. Want to cast some light of your own? Unfortunately, Lumos and any other form of light-spells will not work in here. In fact, once you step inside, even the door closes behind you. Just when you think things couldn't get worse, you hear a shuffling within the room. Could there be something else within the room? The shuffling starts off in one place and then moves around the room, even around you... What do you do? OOC: Ohmygooosh you guys ;____; *fangirls* Class has officially started so please keep chatter to a minimum! If you haven't posted already and want to, feel free to jump in, I don't mind! Just pretend as though your charrie has been there the entire time ^^ I'm starting off with the mini activity! I'm going to give you guys roughly 3 days to post as much as you want to. I'll be posting alongside you guys, especially if you need a little nudge  If the wording is confusing/doesn't make sense, please do give me a nudge and I'll be happy to clarify it for you <3 I'll continue with the lesson (i.e. move on from the mini activity) on the 20th of July. Thanks, lovelies! :loved: |
Just after she had entered the room, the door promptly shut behind her. It was pitch black. Darker than any place she'd been before, and her eyes desperately tried to widen enough to let any speck of light in. No such luck would be had. It was completely devoid of light. If only she knew how to cast a good lighting charm, but without being able to see and considering how horrible her luck was with spells, she didn't dare try. Instead, she held her wand out, as if in a warning to anything that may approach, and used her ears to try and orientate herself to her new surroundings. Then there was the shuffling. Her head whipped to the left, but as soon as she tried to locate the source, it moved again. Her heart pounded and she froze in place, not wanting to give whatever it was a better reading of her location. The shuffling was moving all around her and her level of panic was swiftly rising. Maybe going through the door wasn't the best idea after all. The shuffling continued and she knew she had to do something. Willy nilly casting protection spells wasn't an option for her, but trying to track the shuffling sound and pouncing on whatever it was seemed like a good idea. Her ears strained to catch the slightest of movement, she listened left, then right before hurtling her body towards the place she heard the most movement and hoped to land upon whatever it was. |
Dorian hadn't even bothered using magic to illuminate the classroom. He figured that if the older students weren't able to he certainly couldn't and it was probably for a reason. Instead, his blue eyes were looking at the other side of the room where multiple doors were and above them were names shining in bright letters. It didn't take him too long until he found his own name and he sighed. Part of him wanted to leave and go to the library or the common room. The professor wasn't even here, he wouldn't find out if he left...right? But this was a class and as much as he did not want to go to his door, Dorian still did because he was a good student who followed the rules! Standing in front of it, he Ravenclaw had long ago zoned out the rest of the group and took out his acacia wand. What he was going to do with it, he had no idea. He didn't even know what was on the other side of that door and he hated it that he was curious to find out. This was defence class, certainly there wouldn't be any kittens on the other side of the door. With another deep sigh, Dorian used his non wand hand to push open the door but before his hand made contact the door creaked open and the fourteen year old had the feeling that he was stepping in to a haunted house. Stepping inside, he hadn't taken a couple of steps before the door closed behind him and he jumped, startled by the sudden noise. The room was pitch black which of course heightened his fear and as he walked he held his arms in front of him giving him the appearance of a zombie. When he heard something shuffling somewhere in the room, Dorian stood still. His eyes were wide open and he seemed to have been frozen. When the shuffling went behind him he spun around so quickly he actually made a pirouette A non elegant one. Maybe....maybe if he stood veeeeery still, whatever it was that was in the room with him would go away? So he stood still, trying to not even breathe too hard. CAUSE HE WAS FREAKING OUT silently |
The door might be open, but Chloe still hadn't heard anyone tell them they should enter the room with their name on it, and it was awfully presumptuous to go wandering out of the classroom without the professor telling them it was okay. She crossed her arms and tapped her foot, an impatient gesture that was at odds with Chloe's normally bubbly personality. "Hey... door?" Chloe eased closer to her room and tried not to jump at the sound of the shuffling from inside the dark space. "If it's okay to go in the room without the professor saying so, could you like... give me a sign? Wave or something? 'Cause otherwise..." She crossed her arms again and didn't move any closer. |
Daisy gave a slight start as "her door" shut behind her and she was submerged in total darkness. As if this wasn't horrible enough, she could hear shuffling sounds from all around her. She tried Lumos Maxima which had no effect. She was going to attempt a spell. When she heard the shuffling once again, Daisy aimed her wand and cast, "Impiriano!" to hopefully provide some kind of barrier. She bit her lip nervously. Maybe the shuffling was from a Lethifold and she needed to do a Patronus Charm. Would that be seen as a lumination spell? Daisy's mind was racing. |
Patrick had stopped right inside the main door before class had begun, this was exactly how that lesson his first year began. Dark, mysterious objects in the room and no Hirsch yet. Great, he was going to die again today. Would he even be noticed if he just casually waited by the door until Hirsch arrived and maybe added some light to the room? Sure, his name was on the door closest to the left, but he'd be absolutely nuts if he decided to walk right through that door like he had walked through the cave. He got closer, noticing that the door swung open, "Nope, not happening. I refuse to allow myself the opportunity to die again." he mumbled under his breath. |
Josephine glanced up at the door that had her name on it as it swung open, Oh great, what bogeys are they having me fight today? She gave a wince and slowly... VERY slowly walked through the door. She shook trying to cast lumos, to no avail. Nope... Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope. She was not doing this. She turned to run out, only managing to smack into the door as it slammed closed. "Great... So I'm really going to just die here?! What are you guys going to tell my parents about this?!" She looked around the room she was trapped in trying to see where the scuffling was coming from. Her breathing got heavier and she stayed up against the door, at least whatever was running around couldn't sneak up behind her this way. Maybe I should just start writing my will now... |
Text Cut: Emmalyn Taking out the source of the shuffling completely Muggle-style was a very brave move. Not only did the source fall over, but she did as well. Both toppled onto the ground with a loud, resounding THUMP! The source wasn't going to stop there. It wriggled, tried to move out from under her grip. Even tried to move her out of the way. Will you let it go? Text Cut: Dorian If this was his tactic on getting rid of the source, it wasn't going to work. Not only did the shuffling continue, but it also started getting louder and louder... Was this normal? Or was the source of the sound getting closer? Think fast. Text Cut: Chloe The shuffling from within the room continued, as if whatever was inside was eager to approach its target. In fact, she might be able to notice a vague, darker black figure moving around from inside the room. Exactly what it is remains unclear.... Could a door wave? No. But after a moment's pause, it did start moving back and forth a few inches. Was that her cue? Text Cut: Daisy The use of Impiriano was a very clever one because the source of the shuffling was a physical object. It grew louder and louder and tried to approach her but to no avail. But be careful, young Hufflepuff, that shield isn't going to last forever... And no, it wouldn't. Text Cut: Patrick Better safe than sorry, eh? Although, the door was still open and therefore, he still had the opportunity to glance inside the dark room. Nothing substantial could be seen, but he might be able to notice a figure shuffling around from within the room.... Text Cut: Josephine Maybe staying up near the door was a good idea. The source of the shuffling couldn't sneak up on you from behind, could it? But that wasn't going to stop the source from shuffling ever closer. The sound started to get louder and louder as whatever it was started to shuffle ever so closer. Lumos might not work but something else might... |

If the adrenaline hadn't been pumping full force, she probably would have realized that was she was doing was absolutely bonkers. She still had no idea what the thing was that she now had her arms wrapped around. The room was still darker than the night of a new moon, and she had no idea where the professor was. Ever since her encounter with the boggart at Hogsmeade and the crazed garden gnome out on the grounds, she had been on the defense and ready to strike first. She had vowed to never sit back and wait for what might happen to her. |
So...there was nothing dangerous on the door. Good to know. Though, that didn't mean there was nothing dangerous on the otherside of the door, which had opened. Ronan did creep closer to the doorway, taking a peek inside. Completely dark. He tried a simple Lumos, which did nothing. Oookay. He followed that failed spell up with other lighting spells, to no avail. What up with that, Professor Hirsch? "Expecto Patronum." Because, duh, patronuses (patronui?) were basically light... |
Maddie squinted at the light coming from her wand. Nothing seemed to be showing on the door, so she ended the spell and just stood awkwardly in place as she waited for...well, anything to happen. Was this all just a trick or something? WHERE was the professor?! Just as that thought escaped her mind, the door opened, causing Maddie to jump just a little. Umm...hello?! Why were they all supposed to enter a separate door? If she walked inside, would anybody else be there? She glanced up and down the corridor as several students entered their respective rooms. Sigh. Professor Hirsch was just so extra today. She should have never gotten rid of her light spell. She attempted several times to cast it again, but the light would never come. She sighed again, and even though her wand couldn't produce light, she still kept it tight in her hand. Realizing there was nothing else to do but walk through the door, she did just that. ... ... ... And then the door shut behind her. Seriously, Professor Hirsch?! Knowing that this was part of a class was the only thing keeping her somewhat calm right now. Well, she was calm until the shuffling started. With eyes wide open and heart pounding so loudly it could likely be heard from outside her body, Maddie quickly cast a Silver Shield Spell. There might be a better spell than that, but at least she coukd be protected while she figured it out. "Lumos Maxima!" she tried. |
Okay. That was more than just a coincidence, and Chloe grinned broadly at the door, even as she pulled her wand free and extended it in front of her. Maybe she was going to get eaten by a ghoul or something, but she'd be as prepared as possible. Actually, she could be much more prepared, but as prepared as a fifth year with a passing grade in most classes but no exceptional interest in learning to stay alive COULD be. "Okay, so I'm here," Chloe addressed the darkness. Was that a darker shape or was she crazy? Or maybe both? "Please make my death swift and painless, and tell my mum I love her. And feed my dog bacon at least once a week. And Lumos Maxima." |

It hadn’t taken long for Stasya to realize that her wandlight wasn’t making much of an impact on the darkness. Even the glowing nameplates over all the doors were giving off more light than her wand was, and she’d extinguished her wandlight nearly at the same second as t5wo things had happened. Jessa had defended Emmalyn’s decision to look inside her room and the door in front of herself had creaked open. That wasn’t creepy at all, and she kept her wand ready even as she’d first peered inside the room and then taken a few steps inside. On first observation, this reminded her of that soucouyant lesson from two terms ago, but also her fear of getting lost in the forest. But, the difference was that she wasn’t going to let that stop her. Even as the shuffling had started, she stepped forward until she thought she was near the center of the room. The idea of casting Homenum Revelio flickered through her mind, as she tried to stand entirely silently, listening to the shuffling. Except, she couldn’t be sure it was a human and she didn’t know if the spell worked on creatures too. That and she was ninety percent certain casting Lumos again wouldn’t do any good either. Light would be good, though. Even if it just made her feel better, so she quickly, and as quietly as possible, murmured a charm while pointing her wand toward her hand. “Flammae Caeruleum.” Bluebell flame in her non-wand hand, she slowly turned a circle in place, still trying to determine where the shuffling was coming from. Maybe whatever it was would be afraid of fire. Hopefully. Or she could go back to trying to cast Homenum Revelio. |
So that was it then? There would be no Professor suddenly making an appearance to tell her she didn’t have to go into the room that had her name on it? No last minute intervention that would have her seeing the man as a hero despite him being the one to put her at peril. Well then. Jessa remained at the door watching the others enter. The door with her own name remained invitingly open but the Ravenclaw took no steps toward it. In fact, she didn’t move away from the door. Going inside wasn’t up for debate, not for her but she had a feeling that remaining outside wouldn’t have helped by much. She would miss out on whatever Professor Hirsch had planned. That’s when the idea hit her. Of course she could still go in. The sixth year turned on her heels and headed down the corridor. She didn’t stop going until she’d hit the discreet section of wall on the 7th floor that housed her lab. Rather than enter, she ended the disillusion charm placed on the doll that stood guard then hurried back to the Defense classroom. It didn’t seem like she’d missed much. Jessa sat cross legged on the floor just outside the classroom door and tapped her left eye to activitate the charm she’d applied to link her eye to that of the doll’s. She set Jane on the floor, placing a hand over her right eye to avoid the double vision then led the animated doll through the door by way of audio command. The radio placed in the doll would ensure that no matter how far she got, she would still be able to hear and comply with her commands. From her spot on the floor, Jessa took in the dark room the doll now entered. Huh. Good thing she hadn’t opted to go herself. Now what was this all about? |

It was DARK. The door shutting behind her made her jump, but she wasn't TOO worried. Professor Hirsch wouldn't do anything bad to them would he? She was PRETTY sure he wouldn't anyway. Bel tried a few different light spells and nothing seemed to work.... ..........what WAS that shuffling???????? Was it a boggart? She hadn't mastered riddikulus yet! Bel took a moment to assess if there was any weird mood altering situation going on. Like if it was some dark creature, like a pogrebin or a dementor or something that would make her feel different from normal, but so far it was just the sound of shuffling. Honestly? She actually felt like she'd be better off without her wand. Then she could kick or hit whatever it was if necessary. But she kept hold of it and turned her head curiously, tracking the sound as it moved around her. |
Lumos wasn't proving helpful at all. At least not from her position outside of the room in front of her. Cautiously Rylee stepped forward into the room the door slamming behind her causing her to jump slightly. Right away she was greeted with DARKNESS. A deep dreaded darkness that could only mean one thing... trouble. Rylee stepped backwards pressing her back up against the door, her eyes shifting all around the room hoping to catch a glimpse of something. Having no clue how big the area was or what could be in front of her she probably shouldn't move from where she was... yet. And her eyes weren't adjusting quickly enough to the darkness for her liking. The shuffling wasn't at all expected but she knew something was going to happen. Even so that didn't stop her heartbeat from quickening ever so slight and the grip on her wand to tighten. Her mind raced through every spell she knew for something that could work... a way to see through the darkness and find the source of that shuffling noise which could be anything! Was there a point in trying Homenum Revelio or SpeRevelio again? Probably not. Uhhh... she couldn't just stand here and hope whatever it was went away! She needed to help herself... fast... If Lumos wasn't going to work maybe bluebell flames would. Plus her wand would be free to use should she need it. Pointing her wand at her right hand she cast, "Flammae Caeruleum!" Holding her hand with the small dancing flame on her palm out in front of her she tried to find the shuffling sound that seemed to come from everywhere! The only thing coming to mind right then was to protect herself first. If she couldn't see what the thing was OR where it was she could at least prepare herself for the attack. "Loricatus!" Rylee spoke clearly while twisting her wand in her finger tips and giving it a little flick silently praying the armor would form on her as it was supposed to. Not to mention that it would hold up for a bit so she could figure out a better plan of action! |

Josie kept her wand held towards whatever was coming closer, "Whatever you are you can't be worse than my monstrous siblings." And maybe trying to convince herself more than the monster that was off in the distance. But really, could anything be much worse than the 10 younger children all ganging up on her because she was deemed in charge for being the oldest? As it got closer she tried to aim several different immobulus charms towards it, just in case what ever it was decided to try to prove her wrong on not being worse than her siblings. |
Oh. The door was open now. Hattie frowned, leaning in, but not actually moving, to see what was going on. She couldn't actually see anything. That was a warning sign already. She knew by now to not go into a room where she couldn't actually see anything. Why on earth would someone go in to a room where they couldn't see what danger might be ahead of them. So honestly, Hattie had already made her decision. That she wasn't going to get into the room. Not if she didn't know what was in there, or what she might be facing. She couldn't be that prepared if she didn't know what she was facing, or couldn't even see if there were any obstacles in the room. She did though, cast a few lighting spells, to see if she could see into the room. But none of them worked. She sighed, shaking her head. Yep. She was not going in there. Not until she had worked a way of how to get some light working. She could hear that shuffling, and she did not want to come face to face with it in the dark. Surely that was an advantage for whatever was in the room. In that case she wanted all the advantage she could get. So she stayed where she was, even though it wasn't much lighter here. Now.... to work out what she was going to do next. |

He just needed to take a deep breath and calm down. This was still a class and there was no way their Professor would put them in life threatening situations. But even when he tried to calm his mind for not over thinking what it was that made the shuffling noise, he noticed that it was getting closer. In his sheer panic, the Ravenclaw forgot about his wand and the fact that he was a magical person who could perform magic and he TRASHED his arms and legs wildly around. PUNCH PUNCH PUNCH KICK KICK KICK PUNCH KICK PUNCH KICK! He was flailing like a mad person in a pitch dark room. Auror material right there if he had to say so himself. |
Text Cut: Emmalyn Was the source going to stop moving? No. It continued to move from her grip, wriggling this way and that. It even tried to grip onto her wrist and push her away. There was a lot of force applied here and it was clear that it wasn't going to go down without a fight. The question is: are you? Text Cut: Ronan At least the boy was trying. He might be happy to know that the patronus charm did a little bit more than the wand-lighting charms did. Not only did it provide the room with a bit more light, but it also helped him see where the source of the shuffling was. But before anything else could happen, the source moved away from the light and tried to blend in with the darkness. Even worse, the light from the patronus was... very slowly... starting to die out... Pity it didn't illuminate exactly what the boy was facing. Text Cut: Maddie The shuffling continued but with the use of the Silver Shied Spell, she might be happy to know that it wasn't going to come any closer. The source tried, several times, to shuffle even closer but the shield was doing a good job of protecting her. Just remember: it wasn't going to last forever. The Light charm was a little less successful. There was light, yes, but it didn't do anything to illuminate the room or the source of the shuffling. There was a small ball of light at the end of her wand and, if she looked closely enough, she might've noticed the source dart from left to right to avoid the light... ... To make matters worse, the light started flickering after a few seconds before dying out completely... Text Cut: Chloe She wasn't going crazy. The darker shape shuffled about the room. It went from left to right and even tried to move around her. It shuffled closer and closer.... The tip of her wand lit up with a small ball of light but it wasn't enough to light up the entire room. It did make the shape seem darker than before but there was no way of seeing exactly what she was dealing with. Almost as if it was a shadow moving around. The source darted around in an attempt to avoid the light and blend in with the darkness. As for the light, it flickered after a few seconds before dying out completely. Think fast. Text Cut: Daisy The sparrow-shaped Patronus flew up into the air but unfortunately, it cast very little light on the scene. If she looked closely enough, she might notice that there was a darker shape in the room that was trying hard to avoid the light from the Patronus. It shuffled away in a completely different direction, trying to blend in with the darkness. And the Patronus? The light from it started to die out as well.... Text Cut: Stasya Clever. Very clever. The flames did what the wand-lighting charms couldn't: it helped to provide a bit more light. But it was not enough to illuminate the entire room and certainly not enough to illuminate the source of the shuffling. The source of the shuffling moved closer and closer, causing the shuffling to get louder as it approached her. The difference was that, if she looked closely enough, she might be able to notice a darker shadow moving about as well... Text Cut: Jessa Also very clever. The door might've closed behind the doll but she was still able to see everything that went on inside. Pity the room was so dark that it was difficult to see anything. But there was a sound that might've reached her ears. The sound of a strange shuffling coming from within the room, one that got louder and louder as the source started to approach the doll... Text Cut: Bel Very clever observation. And she was right: whatever was in the room wasn't going to make her feel different from normal. Unless, of course, she was scared of the dark. The source of the shuffling changed directions: it darted from the left.... to the right.... and then around her. To make matters worse, the sound was getting louder and louder, as if whatever was making the noise was getting closer and closer towards her... Maybe hitting it was a good option... if she could get the aim right. Text Cut: Rylee Bluebell flames did help... kind of. The flames that appeared provided her with a bit more light, but it was nowhere near enough to illuminate the entire room. It was as if the darkness was pressing in on her more than the light was projecting outwards. But, it did help her to notice a small shadow creeping about and avoiding the light as much as possible.... The shield was a good idea because it did keep the source of the shuffling at a distance away from her. But remember: the shield is only temporary... Text Cut: Josephine The source of the shuffling wasn't going to take in the words that spilled from her mouth. It couldn't understand it, after all. All it did was move closer and closer... The Immobulus charms were a good idea but unfortunately, with the source moving around, it was much more difficult to hit it with the charm than it would be in light. She might not know it but one flew inches past whatever it was but wasn't good enough to immobilise it completely. Concentrate. You're nearly there. Text Cut: Hattie Maybe staying back was a good idea but it wasn't going to help her much if she wanted to try and defeat whatever was inside. The sound of the shuffling grew and grew, as if whatever it was was trying to get closer to her. However, there was a small pause when the shuffling stopped..... and then shuffled around at a safe distance. Are you going to stay safe or let your curiosity get the better of you? The choice is yours. Text Cut: Dorian Anyone who was looking in on this might've thought the boy was mad. Some of his punches and kicks failed to land on anything: the source of the shuffling was just too fast. It dodged and shuffled this way and that to avoid being hit. It was much harder to aim in the darkness when you couldn't see your target, right? However, the last punch might've made contact with.... .... was that a jaw? There was a small pause when the shuffling stopped..... but then continued to move around him again. Keep it up. You're nearly there. OOC: You guys are doing AMAZINGLY! I'm completely in awe of all this creativity ugh :loved: Just to let you know: you have roughly 24 hours left until I move on with the lesson. Keep up the amazing work ^^ |

The radio, being essentially two way (a feature so she could send Jane to find her friends and pass on messages without her having to leave her lab) made it entirely possible to hear the shuffling. Curious. Jessa instructed the doll to stop walking and instead make several turns. Whatever it was, in this dim light, surely she’d be able to see it if it got close enough—exceptionally close to the point of contact. Momentarily she worried for the sake of her doll, not wanting it to be destroyed but she rationalised that the Professor wouldn’t set them up against anything that could severely harm them. Whatever damage would be fixable. Jessa squinted, as if this action might allow her to see more clearly but now she wished she’d attached some form of light to the doll before sending it in. She’d be hard pressed to see whatever it was but it didn’t stop her from having the doll turn all the same. Eventually, she would see something, right? |
The darker patch was definitely there, although Chloe's light just seemed to agitate it. Or at least, it seemed to be actively avoiding her light. And maybe that was the answer? Maybe Chloe could sort of... drive the dark patch away from her and trap it. Assuming it was corporeal enough to trap. And not super dangerous. Chloe cast a bluebell flame charm at her feet, where it burned safely without catching fire to anything else. She moved a foot to the left and cast it again. Over and over, leaving a line of flames in an arching pattern, with the darker patch on the other side of the flames and the door at her back. Was it working? |

"STOP!!!" she screamed at the thing. "Stop fighting and I won't hurt you." It was a fairly empty threat. She wouldn't be hurting the thing either way and she had gone too far to stop and let it hurt her. The thought of how mad she might have made it by this point turned her stomach. She was in it for the long haul and would NOT be giving up. No. That thing could throw whatever it had at her and she was not going to let go. The fear of what might happen if she let go was far worse than the known of hanging on. If only she could see what it was that was in the room with her. |
So the light spells weren’t having much use, even as more and more students joined in on the spell casting. Neither did the revealing spells some of the other students had added into the mix. It was getting frustrating and Septimus was beginning to wonder just what they could do. Besides wait for Professor Hirsch or enter the named rooms that is. As if reacting to his thoughts in some way, the doors each creaked open, the one marked Septimus Nairne no different from the others. Weird. And making him more torn by his curiosity and caution, something that appeared not be a problem with some of his classmates as they walked towards their doors to investigate. Did he dare enter his? After a couple of minutes of deliberation, the Ravenclaw found his feet moving tentatively closer to the door seemingly belonging to him. Wand in his hand and at the ready of course. Just because they were in a classroom and this could potentially be involved in a lesson, that didn’t mean it was definitely entirely safe. As he got close, he noticed it appeared to be even darker inside and just as he crossed the threshold of the room, he was enveloped in darkness as the door closed behind him. Septimus spun around in response, surprised by the action. However the sounds of shuffling from the other side of the room spun him around towards it once more. What in Merlin’s Beard was going on? |
It was in that moment, Maddie started to feel panic rise inside of her. She closed her eyes and drew in a deep breath and released it out slowly. This is only a class. I'm not in any real danger. This is only a class. I'm not in any real danger. Her heart was pounding louder and faster by the second, but she managed to open her eyes. Even though she was met with darkness, it made her feel better that if she was able to shine any amount of light on the object, she'd at least see it with her eyes open. "L---Lum---," she tried, but the words wouldn't come. Come on, Maddie. "Lumos Solem!" she called out. She didn't know what else to do. Even though she was almost on the eve of her fourteenth birthday, she felt seriously unprepared for this. If this didn't work, she was officially screaming at the top of her lungs and yelling for help. Not really. She'd want to, though. Hirsch? Hirsch? ... You out there somewhere? This isn't funny, you know. |

Maybe if she just stayed in one spot, the shuffler would give up and go away. At least it could back off into whichever corner was furthest from her to wait until the actual lesson began. Because she did happen to catch the slightly darker shadow as it obviously got closer. New idea. “Do you like cookies?” Maybe bribing the shadow shuffler would work. Besides, they couldn’t actually have a campfire party when the bluebell flames didn’t give off heat. She didn’t have marshmallows anyway. She kept her wand at the ready though. In case the bribe didn’t work and the thing kept shuffling toward her and her fire. |

Strange how all this punching and kicking to keep whatever it was that was in the dark room with him off, was actually keeping his mind calm enough to think of an solution. That was, until he felt his knuckles make contact with....something and he knew he had hit whatever it was that was there. But instead of feeling victorious, the Ravenclaw shrieked. He had had a small thought in the back of his mind that perhaps this whole thing was a psychological training and that nothing was there in the first place but when his hand came in contact with something and then it continued to move around him again he NOPE'D "I WANT OUT, GET ME OUT" Before he had a complete mental breakdown. If the thing here with him was completely harmless he was going to KICK the Professor. Flying kick style. Ok not really cause he wouldn't dare BUT STILL. Where was that stupid door?! |
Patrick shuffled forward, everyone else had been in their rooms, he was the only one but this all just gave him a very iffy vibe. he shuffled forward a few more steps glancing in the room every few seconds then darting back out to the rest of the room in hopes that he might hear Professor Hirsch announce that something less crazy would be happening for the day. Stepping almost to the doorway he noticed shuffling in the room and felt like his breath was stolen. "Absolutely not I refuse." taking a big step back Patrick crossed his arms and waited. He did not have a death wish, although would Hirsch think he was a wimp?[b] "Ah, who cares, I nearly died once in this room hard pass."[b] He shrugged deciding to plop right down where he was at to wait out the rest of his class mates. |
Text Cut: Jessa Maybe attaching some form of light would've been a good idea but the light might not have lasted long or allowed her to see as much as she, probably, would've wanted to. Instead, all she could see was the darkness pressing in on her. But.... if she looked closely enough..... she might be able to see a vague darker shadow.... one that was pressing in on the doll just as much as the darkness was.... Think fast, young Ravenclaw, that shadowy figure wasn't going to stop anytime soon. Text Cut: Chloe Very, very clever idea. And one that was working. The flames burnt in an arching line around the room. Collectively, they did very little to light up the entire room properly but they did provide some kind of light to the situation. And, even better, the shadowy figure was now backing away from the flames as far as it could go. There was a pause, as if it was deliberating where to go but then decided to stop altogether. No shuffling, no approaching, no movement whatsoever. Well done. Text Cut: Emmalyn Seeing what was in the room would've made the situation easier, wouldn't it? Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. What made it worse was that the source of the shuffling, the thing laying beneath her, was still putting up a fight. It was almost as if it was trying to test just how far she could go with her strength. It wriggled..... and writhed..... ..... and then stopped. Completely. No movement, no shuffling. Have you defeated it? Or is this part of the plan? Text Cut: Septimus What was going on? Good question. As he stood there, the darkness pressed in on him from all sides and the sound of the shuffling continued. If he listened closely enough, he might even start to notice that it was getting louder and louder, as if whatever it was was getting closer towards him.... .... Pity it was too dark to see what he was facing and where in the room it was. But that shouldn't be too much of a problem, right? Text Cut: Maddie The light that she had produced wasn't as strong as it could be. It joined with the previous light spell she'd had, causing it to shine a little brighter than before, but it wasn't strong enough. Nowhere near strong enough to what she needed. Confidence, kid. Confidence. The shuffling continued but it was doing its best to avoid the small patch of light near her. It wasn't going to give up, though: it was just going to find another way. Maybe she should do the same... Text Cut: Stasya The bluebell campfire didn't do much to illuminate the surroundings but there was a bit more light in the room now. It wasn't enough to show her exactly what she was facing, not when the source of the shuffling was so intent on keeping to the darkness. Until the question came. And then there was a pause, as if the shadowy figure was considering her option. And then the shuffling continued, this time keeping a safe distance from her and her campfire. Text Cut: Dorian Oh? At the sound of his voice, another door opened, one on the other side of the door he had entered in in the first place. One that led to a well-lit room... Deep breaths, kid. Deep breaths. Text Cut: Patrick It wasn't a wimpy option to not face something that could, potentially, hurt you. Not at all. The source of the shuffling continued but, with no target in the room, it simply moved around and about as it pleased. Almost randomly. Maybe it was a good thing he decided to wait because he didn't have to wait for very long.... |
Wow. Just..... wow. Hirsch had, of course, been standing on the other side of the rooms: watching everything that was going on. He expected there to be an array of defensive strategies in place: some people would've wanted to attack first and think later, others would've come up with a plan and then attacked. What he didn't expect were the number of people who simply refused to take part. And did Stasya offer cookies?! Did she have any on her? Anyways. It all seemed to turn to chaos when one Dorian Katharos, who had landed a solid right hook on the shadowy figure, screamed about being let out. Screamed, not said in his usual tone of voice. Hirsch's eyebrows shot right up and it was probably because of this that he let the door on the other side, his side of the room, open up. Maybe this was a sign. The Defence professor glanced down at his watch before drawing a horizontal line in the air with his wand. At once, every shuffling in the room came to an immediate stop. A flick and the doors opened up, doors that were on the other side of the doors they came in and ones that led to a much larger space. One that, they'll be happy to know, was better lit than what they were in previously. To make things slightly better, the walls for the rooms the students were in seemed to melt away, revealing very little space and a single dummy. Figured out the source of the shuffling yet? The larger room was empty (of course), apart from the mats that lined the floor. On the single desk on the other side of the room stood multiple glasses of water and three boxes: one of which was open and two that were closed and locked. The one box that was opened contained slabs of different kinds of Honeydukes chocolate from the very sweet to the very weird. And who was standing next to the desk? Professor Hirsch himself. Time to greet the class? He thought so. "Hello and welcome to another Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson," he said, clapping once to get their attention, "Before we move on with the lesson, I wanted to apologise for the activity. I know it must've been an awful, panic-driven experience but I promise that there's a reason behind it. Because of the high level of emotion, I want everyone to come up and grab a glass of water and a slab of chocolate and make yourselves comfortable on the mats. Make sure to take some deep breaths as well." This was very important. "Firstly, I wanted to say well done on tackling the dummy in each room. Each of you had a different approach to the lack of light and I'm glad to see that you used your brains to work around the situation. It's not easy, it's never easy, but I'm glad to see so many of you being vigilant before and during the room experience. Well done!" "Now," Dramatic pause, anyone? "I wanted to ask: what did you learn from that? What would you do differently? What could you, maybe, improve on?" Let's get those brains thinking. OOC: Look at you guys go! :loved: That was amazing!! *so so proud kjhfdgkhdf!* The question is super simple: what did you learn from that? What would you do differently? And what could you improve on? I'll move the lesson on tomorrow (or later today for me *eyes time*) at 10pm GMT+1. Thanks, you guys ^^ |
What.....in Merlin’s beard.......was that.....? Jessa squinted into the darkness, noting the subtle darkening in shade that suggested—or rather confirmed—the presence of something else in the room. It wasn’t fear that gripped her, but intrigue. Now she wished even more she could’ve introduced some light and a part of her wanted to be IN there to get a first hand examination done but she would settle for what she could get. The shuffling continued to get louder and the Ravenclaw could feel her own muscles tensing with anticipation as if she was the one in harm’s way. Then it was all over. Wait what...? Jessa placed a hand over the eye that connected to Jane’s and watched as the room opened up before her. The walls came down, a wide room opened up and there standing by a table with the usual mats placed all around was the Professor. Was the exercise over already? With a hand still over her left eye to once again prevent the double vision, Jessa got up from her spot on the floor and moved closer for the official beginning of the lesson. On the way to the Professor she collected her doll, inspecting her briefly to ensure the unseen entity hadn’t gotten to her in some way. It was yet another disadvantage. Her skin wasn’t connected to that of the doll’s. She’d never be able to get an entirely accurate feel for any situation by sending Jane. Not particularly traumatised, Jessa decided against the refreshments, instead tapping her eye to end the charm and return her vision to normal. “I’d be more prepared, I think. This exercise has taught me that while Jane serves her purpose of surveillance, I may need to tinker with her charms a bit to make her more versatile. Either that or animate another doll specifically for circumstances that require a fully functional witch or wizard—at the very least a doll with greater ability for interaction.” Probably not what he meant but it WAS what she learned and now she had a new project to work on. |
Emmalyn continued to struggle and thrash around with the unknown attacker? She couldn't exactly call it an attacker since she was the one that initiated the attacking. Maybe that wasn't the best idea. However, she kept it up with all her mite. Then...nothing. The thing just simply stopped moving. She froze, arms still wrapped tight around it, and listened for any sort of clue that it was still alive. If it had been alive to begin with. There were far too many things it could have been to even start guessing. Before she could figure out the state of health of her opponent, another door flew open and light was all around. Professor Hirsch was talking to them, directing them to get chocolate and water. Emmalyn, however, was unable to loosen her grip around the now known dummy. Her arms trembled and she was on the verge of bawling over the relief that she wasn't going to die and she hadn't just murdered anything. The entire ordeal had ended far too abruptly for her to fully process that it was just a staged test of her reactions. The disappearance of the walls around and the new light flooding in made her squint while her eyes adjusted to the brightness. Her mind was faster in rejoining reality than her body. As she lay on the floor, arms still tightly wrapped around the dummy, all that ran through her mind was that the next time she'd be sure to lead with a punch or a kick before flinging herself upon a possible attacker. If she'd only disorientated her opponent first, it wouldn't have been able to fight back as hard. |
The door opened and Chloe skipped out into the big room. She didn't seem shaken, although Chloe wasn't one for showing negative emotions. It was a good sign that she took the water and chocolate without question and settled on a mat without a word. "I think I might be afraid of the dark now, sir. Does that count?" Chloe nibbled the edge of her chocolate. It had a toffee crunch in it, and it made her happy... but it didn't quite dispel how uneasy the darkness had made her. |
Emmalyn, too! Maddie waited for the sunlight from her spell to come. She was starting to think there might be a Devil's Snare shuffling around in here with her, and if there was, the sunlight should get it. At first, when the light did come, she thought her spell had finally worked. Panic rose inside of her once again, as she prepared herself to face the Devil's Snare. Only, none of the above happened. Except for the light. There was light, but it hadn't come from her wand. Everything fell into place, as the Hufflepuff adjusted her eyes to the new scene before her. A dummy?! Had she known that, she would have used Immobulus a long time ago! Also--oh, heyyy, Professor! "That was fun! Can we do it again?!" she greeted. Now that she knew there'd been a dummy in the room with her, she had so many new ideas! "Thanks for the chocolate and water!" Her energy was returning to her now that she knew she wasn't going to die alone in some mysterious room in the castle. She grabbed a selection of refreshments then headed into the much more welcoming classroom. So what did she learn? She raised her hand. "Had I known that had been a dummy in the room with me, I'd have cast...maybe Immobulus? Something in the back of my head thought maybe you were in the room, too, and no way am I casting on a professor! Plus, I didn't think it'd be too smart to cast when I didn't know what I was casting on," she said. "I think I'd like to be better prepared, too. Why wouldn't any light spells work? What would we do if that happened to us outside of class?" It was then that she noticed Emmalyn, lying somewhat lifelessly on the floor. "Professor! Emmalyn!" she said. She abandoned her treats and stood looking toward the girl. She didn't know whether to run to her side or to wait for someone more experienced to help out. |
So far the only thing Stasya had learned from the activity, since she was hoping that’s what the little creepy dark room/shuffling mystery being was, was that no matter how many times she cast the charm and added to her little bluebell campfire, the room didn’t really get any lighter. At least, not in a ‘now I know what exactly is lurking in the room with me because I can see it’ way. Although… had the shadowy figure actually stopped when she’d asked if it liked cookies. Because she was totally willing to sacrifice some of her stash if it meant being left alone… The shuffler was obviously keeping away from her, though, so maybe it didn’t like cookies. Or tall blonde fourth year prefects, hopefully. She was staying ready for anything either way, except she really hadn’t expected her surroundings to basically melt away gradually, let alone the door to freedom that had opened up in front of herself. The fact the shuffler had been revealed to be a dummy answered several of her questions, in any case. Plus, now she knew where Professor Hirsch was. “Hi Professor Hirsch,” she said, giving him a grin as she walked up to help herself to a piece of chocolate and a glass of water. For once, she wasn’t going to question if the offering had an ulterior motive, since she trusted him. Hmm… going to take a seat on a mat and nibbling on the chocolate, she thought about the questions. “I learned that it’s better to do whatever it takes to stay calm in a strange situation?”, she offered after a moment. That and it doesn’t hurt to distract whatever is stalking her. Not that she particularly wanted to be stalked by mystery beings in the darkness ever again. |
After his out cry of wanting to be let out of the room, a door in front of him opened up and without even waiting for a second longer, the very brave Ravenclaw dashed towards the door and got out. Only when he was out of the room did he look back and saw that the rooms were vanishing and it was revealed that the attacker had been.....a dummy. A DUMMY! He felt his whole face burn up in embarrasment and shame when he realised this. The only thing that kept him a bit more sane was the fact that it had been dark when he had screamed so probably no one knew that it had been him. But he knew, and his Head of House as well which was far more embarrassing than the students knowing. He turned his back to the place where the rooms had been and saw the Professor standing there next to the desk. For the first time ever, Dorian did not greet the man. He held his head low and silently walked over to the table that had water and slabs of chocolate and picked up not 1 but 2 pieces. He needed it, ok? Again without saying a word or even giving the Professor a glance, the third year began to eat the chocolate in silence. He only looked up when a question had been asked but he did not bother answering. The only thing he learned was that he was officially a coward and that he did not like the Professor at the moment. |
mentions of Chloe and Emmalyn Patrick smiled. It looked as if each of his classmates had seen a ghost and he had been smart enough to stay out of harms way this time around. "I feel like this activity taught me that I know what my bounds are, and that maybe eventually I'll have the skills that the other students in the room have." He was trying to down play his fears. Maybe he should have gotten a bit braver and just gone into the room. Well he did until he saw someone laying on the ground, oh no, "EMMALYN?" He looked at Chloe who had equally shouted Emmalyn's name and then at Hirsch in hopes that since he was the adult in the room would handle it. But poor Emmalyn was his friend and he didn't want to see her hurt. Before he realized what he was doing he was taking the piece of chocolate he had grabbed and walked closer to Emmalyn hoping that maybe some chocolate would bring her back to the group. "Emmalyn? You okay? Have some chocolate." he mentioned as he left the chocolate within her reach and a nervous smile on his face. Leave it to Patrick to have zero fear once the activity was over. |
Text Cut: Emmalyn and co ^^ Text Cut: You guuuuys <3 When it looked like no one else was going to answer, Hirsch turned to the class as a whole. "An interesting set of answers, I have to say." Some were more unexpected than others but that wasn't the point. "I owe you an explanation," he started, "We, as humans, rely very much on our sense of sight. It's not the strongest of our senses but it's the one we use all the time and the one we rely on to get us out of difficult or dangerous situations. Being without it would be incredibly difficult to live without." Pause. "But there are certain situations where the conditions might be too dark or whatever you're facing against is invisible or you simply cannot see what you're up against. Because of this, we can't always rely on our sense of sight and we have to use our other senses to help us out of that situation." Something a few of them did do, which he was very happy about. "A lot of you tried to add light to the situation, literally, to try and see and I don't blame you. But, bear in mind that that doesn't always work. You need to learn to use your senses collectively in a defensive situation. Just because you can't see something, doesn't mean you can't defeat it." Was he making any sense? "Now, an example of a situation where you'd use this is against a dark creature called a Hidebehind." Did they see where he was going with this? "Before I start talking too much again, what can you tell me about the Hidebehind?" OOC: *gives out cookies to everyone who managed to read all of that* Great set of answers, you guys! This next question is super simple: what do you know about the Hidebehind? Please try not to copy something someone else has already said. And weird and whacky answers are aaaaaalways welcome ^^ If any of this doesn't make sense, please feel free to give me a nudge and I'd be happy to go through it with you <3 I'll continue the lesson tomorrow at roughly 10pm GMT+1. Thanks, lovelies :loved: |
Hidebehind? Nettie had NO idea what that was. It sounded made up, to be honest. Still, eager to learn more about it and figure out what the heck that was, she picked up her book and flipped through the chapters. It took her a few moments, but she finally stumbled upon the chapter. She read it over a bit - it was actually SUPER interesting - before raising her hand. "Professor, a Hidebehind is half demiguise, half ghoul," she answered. She found herself reading ahead in the chapter after she answered because that was CRAZY and really intriguing...like, how did that even HAPPEN? Was there just one? WERE THERE A LOT? |

Then, Professor Hirsch was suddenly next to her. She wasn't sure were he had come from, but she was thankful he was there. She felt her shoulder being shaken, which further brought her back to the present. "I" she squeaked then cleared her throat. "I'm okay. Yes, I'm okay." Her fists were first to relax, followed by her shoulders. After only a few more deep breaths, her arms finally released their tight hold of the dummy. Her eyes met his and she mustered up a smile. "I'm okay, yes. But, please don't make me do that again." She shuddered again at the thought of what just happened. "Please, not ever again." Her shaky hand reached out and grabbed the water and she took a long drink before picking up the chocolate. Her stomach wasn't in the mood for sweets, but she knew it would help her feel better. She took a few bites and slowly got to her feet. "Thanks Professor Hirsch, I think I'm all better now." That was one of the biggest lies she had told in some time, but there wasn't any point in having the good ugly cry that she wanted to have in the middle of class. It could wait until she was back to her dorm room. Emmlayn smiled at Maddie and Patrick "Thanks" she said as she slowly walked over to where the rest of the class was. It was comforting to be around all her classmates and in a well lit area. After settling in and eating a bit more chocolate, she pulled out her parchment to take notes. The next question was one she was a tiny bit knowledgeable about. Care of Magical Creatures was of interest to her, so she'd spent some extra time studying the different creatures. She raised her hand, arm still a bit achy "Sir, the Hidebehind has the power of invisibility and it's prey of choice is humans." Yuck. The thought of anything wanting to eat a person was gross. |
It made Chloe feel bad to know that Professor Hirsch thought he'd upset her. Although, he had upset her, but she wasn't broken or unable to go on. The chocolate was going a long way to fix even her upset. "It's okay, professor. Most classes at Hogwarts are upsetting, to be honest. The world is pretty upsetting." But they survived just fine. "It was more the not knowing than the not seeing. In most circumstances, you at least have a vague idea what you're getting yourself into." So they were going to talk about the Hidebehind today? It wasn't really a creature that Chloe was familiar with, but that was mostly because the Dark ones interested her less. Dangerous creatures, fluffy ones, scaly ones, legless lump ones... just not Dark ones. "Can't they change their shape to make themselves hide behind nearly any object? Probably where they got their name." |
"Oh hidebehind is what you do in games and when you want to hide from someone. You hidebehind something or someone." Yes, that was an easy one, she wasn't sure at first when she started in this class and had all the scary stuff. After the last few lessons she wasn't even sure she wanted to be in the class anymore and was hoping maybe she could drop it, but was told it was a must. So now Chloe just tried to keep up and do her best not to seem like a scared bird hiding in her nest, maybe she could just hidebehind the next. Her own thoughts making her giggle a little. |
*big Malory Archer style sigh* They hadn't been able to continue that little exercise cause someone had gone and flipped out. People realized that that wouldn't exactly work in the real world, right? Just saying. Ronan would've liked to have used his patronus to find out what, exactly, had been causing the sounds coming from the room but..... As for what he would've done differently? Well, he probably would've skipped right ahead to using his patronus, but he was pretty sure that wasn't what Professor Hirsch was looking for. So, he just stayed silent. Well, except for another big sigh when the topic of today's lesson was revealed. Creatures. A subject that he wasn't quite so strong in. What was this, 'Find a Way to Stump Ronan Day'? Needless to say, he stayed silent in response to this one too. |
Oh. Honestly, Jessa hadn’t been expecting a follow up question on her comment about the doll. She was aware enough that it had nothing to do with the lesson and would have been perfectly fine with a nod from the Professor before he moved on. That being said, it was nice to know he was interested. “Well, in this case, it’s like you just explained with us relying on sight. Jane was charmed specifically to aid with surveillance. She doesn’t necessarily respond to stimulus like Lise would so if that dummy had actually gotten hold of her she wouldn’t struggle, she wouldn’t fight back, she’d have no strength to defend herself. Ideally, I’d like a doll that should this scenario be reproduced, be able to hold their own but the exact how will need more thought.” The introduction of the day’s dark creature made sense. Hidebehind. She remembered reading about that. “It’s said to be a direct result of accidental breeding. D’you suppose that neither creature really knew what they were doing or had they been an anamoly, Professor? I can’t imagine a witch or wizard “accidentally” cross breeding anything. It’s rather deliberate.” Like her ideas of eventually cross breeding to create her own species of dragon. |
The smile hadn’t been entirely unexpected. Stasya knew by now pretty much that her own demeanor had an effect on Professor Hirsch’s response to her, so she’d expected that sort of response to her own smile. The thing she hadn’t expected was to hear the word ‘exactly’ in reaction to her answer. Even she hadn’t really thought that was a god answer, but apparently she’d been wrong. Of course, she’d much rather be wrong this way rather than the other way. There was a level of responsibility she felt toward her title as prefect, showing the other Gryffindors how to behave. Technically. There were plenty of things she did that probably weren’t exactly what the others should follow. The explanation had been interesting, too. Just the fact that a professor felt the need to explain why he’d approached a lesson a certain way, but then, it also didn’t surprise her? Not really. Not deep down, and she accepted the reasoning. If it had been a term or two earlier, maybe not, but she’d gotten better at not completely freezing in situations that made her remember her terror when she’d thought that she and some of her dormies were lost (and injured) in the forest simply because of her determination to find the unicorns. Although, she’d cast the bluebell flame charm more to make sure she felt calm rather than just for light. In the end. Although she’d keep that to herself unless he asked. Instead, she tackled his introduction of the hidebehind. Because, creature, duh. “Hidebehinds are commonly reported in America, not really around here although maybe that’s more because nobody’s had an experience with one here rather than that they don’t exist in Europe? And witches and wizards are more likely to survive an encounter with one, so magic can probably be used to defeat one.” It was a guess, but it really did make sense. Besides, the appearance stuff had already been mentioned. |
Daisy inwardly chastised herself for not being successful in defeating the creature/monster. She was really hoping that she was improving when it came to her defence skills. She looked at Emmalyn and whispered, "Are you okay?" Hidebehinds? Daisy didn't know much about them that hadn't been answered by her fellow students already but she decided to have a go and raised her hand. "I think they are shape-shifters." |
Patrick nodded to Emmalyn. He was glad that she was okay, but he knew exactly how she felt. That had been him when they had a cave in the room his first term. He tried to shake the feeling and get back to the lesson at hand, but it was a bit hard for him to focus. Shaking his head he cleared all the thoughts about the cave and the other's experiences. Each answer from his classmates made sense and he could easily see that they were onto something. "Do these creates only come out in the dark?" he asked, although he supposed he should really make it a statement. But since he wasn't sure about what a hidebehind actually was he figured he should just keep his mouth shut beyond his question. |
He was paying attention to the professor's words now instead of ignoring him. Had he been the only one who had screamed earlier? He lowered his head again as he looked at his shoes. But as the chocolate was having a positive effect on him, Dorian slowly turned to his normal self. His talk about using all of their senses was being noted in his notebook although he already knew this. He just needed to have something to do. "A hidebehind is a vicious hybrid creature that can disguise itself behind any object and it also preys on humans. It was accidentally created by a guy named...eh..." Merlin's Beard what was his name again? "I can't remember his name but he was known for the cruel treatment he was using on the creatures he was 'caring' for and i think that because of this the hidebehind turned into this vile creature because it was probably always treated horribly." Blame the human yo He said all this in a quiet voice and then lowered his hand before going back to looking the other way cause he was still slightly mad. |
Hidebehind? She shivered remembering the horror stories her younger brother loved to tell of the beast, "Isn't that the creature that can go invisible and is believed to like to attack humans?" Rather because of being treated in an inhumane way or not, she didn't care, she would happily avoid the creature and never interact with it, "Supposed to be extremely dangerous and hard to defeat?" No... She didn't like this lesson at all. Please don't tell her the professor had actually brought one to class? |
Text Cut: You guuuuys! Any more answers? No? Moving on. "Well done!" he said, clapping his hands once and turning to the class as a whole, "That was a great set of answers and it's clear that a lot of you have really thought this through." And probably done some extra reading or looked in their textbooks quickly just before answering. "As many of you have said, the Hidebehind is a hybrid creature. It's the," Sigh. "lovechild of a Demiguise and a ghoul. This happened because of an illegal trader named Phinease Fletcher who tried to import European-based creatures, namely the Demiguise, and set up businesses in the New World, or what we know today as the United States. Unfortunately, a Demiguise escaped and mated with a Ghoul which, I speak for everyone when I say, was very surprising." Anyways. "The Hidebehinds are currently based in the forests of Massachusetts but they could be anywhere. They can turn invisible, which makes them incredibly adept at hiding. To make this worse, they can actually contort their body into any shape needed to help them hide, especially behind the trees they lurk behind." Creepy. Very creepy. "They are roughly 6'0" in height, have silver hair, are very thin and, well, they prey on humans." Breathe. "Because of all of this, they are very difficult to track and you need great skill and perception to identify it. But there has been a case where they've been defeated. In the early 1620s, a Hidebehind captured a young Pukwudgie," They knew what that was, right? "and so, Isolt Satyre managed to chase it away and then went on to defeat it." Dramatic pause? "Defensively, I'd say the greatest challenge is trying to defeat something you can't see. So how do you solve the problem? By eliminating the invisibility part. You can't Reverto it but you can throw something at it. Mud, earth, paint, flour, smoke.... anything you have on you or you can conjure up that'll make you see where it is. It's simple but it's effective." Pause. "You could also trust your sense of hearing as well. And, as a last resort, Hidebehinds don't like the smell of alcohol but this presents more problems than it solves so I don't want anyone using alcohol today." Not to mention that they were underage. "Anyways," he started, glancing down at his watch, "We don't have a lot of time left so let's move onto the main activity." At this, he took out his wand and flicked it towards the two unopened boxes causing them to, well, open up. One box contained a pair of goggles while the other one contained something that looked very much like a water gun. Confused? "I want everyone to come up and take a pair of goggles and a water gun. We're going to be having a water fight with a slight twist. You still have to hit as many people as possible but," Dramatic pause.... again. "when you put on the goggles, not only are they going to protect your eyes but they're also going to stop you from seeing anyone else in the room. You'll have to use your other senses to try and track the other people in the room and your sense of aim to hit them accurately." Much more exciting than being stuck in a dark room, wasn't it? "Oh, and by the way, anyone caught cheating and trying to sneak a peek beneath their goggles will be eliminated." "I'm going to give you half an hour until the class closes. If you don't want to take part, come and stand behind my desk. As for the rest of you.... ready? Set?" Smile. "GO!" Did he have to mention constant vigilance? OOC: ....... *gives out extra cookies to everyone who managed to read all of that holy crap Kita* ANYWAYS. It's MAIN ACTIVITY TIME! It's pretty simple: WATER FIGHT! The guns that they use will load itself with water. The goggles will prevent them from seeing anyone else in the room. Use this as an opportunity to interact with each other and play with anyone and everyone! Just have fun and don't RP for anyone else, okay? :3 You're also welcome to work on your own or in teams or whatever. It's completely up to you! I'm going to give you until the 26th of July at 11:59pm GMT+1 to make as maaaaany posts as you want! Have fun and nudge me if you need anything! Thanks, lovelies :loved: |
Ugh... Could she go back into the room with the mannequin? Why did the professors seem so intent on having her interact with the other students? Josie took a pair of goggles and a water gun and just looked around. Alright, she was probably a sitting duck, but tried to aim and listen for shuffles and do as she was told, not wanting to lose the house points for her by not attempting. |
Catching up and main activity Septimus swallowed as the sounds got louder and seemed to creep closer. He debated trying the lighting spell again but as it hadn’t done very much in the dimly lit hallway, it didn’t seem like it would have any luck in the suffocating darkness of the room he currently resided in. What else could he do besides what was already tried by him and his classmates when they had been freer outside the would-be prison? But then the shuffling suddenly stopped causing the Ravenclaw to freeze, awaiting what might be happening next. In this case…a door opened in front of him, one that hadn’t been the one he had entered through. That was behind him after he had turned away from it at the sounds with him. And there was brighter light coming from door, that was a relief even as the walls disappeared from around him and the light was allowed to reveal what had been in the dark room with him. A silent dummy and nothing more. He shook his head and graciously moved out of the room. No one had to ask him twice. “Um…hello Professor.” As for the water and chocolate, Septimus was willing to take that offer as well, taking a glass and a nice bar of dark chocolate before sitting down on a free mat. The Ravenclaw thought on the questions being raised, but he honestly had no answer. Instead sitting quietly and listening as he worked to come down from the weird experience. And then the lesson moved on and reason for the experiment was explained. He hoped he never really was in a dangerous situation that was too dark to see what he was up against. And a hidebehind? Septimus knew nothing, but it appeared his classmates made up for that. Demiguise and a ghoul. Shiver. The second year couldn’t dwell on it too much as they were moving on to the real activity. A blind water fight. And the option to take part of not. What did he have to lose. Water wasn’t nearly as scary as what the dark and dark creatures could evoke. So Septimus retrieved a water gun and goggles and moved off to the side. He then took a deep breath, looked around his surroundings and classmates one last time and braced himself before sliding the goggles down over his eyes. Cue Blind man’s Bluff---wizard style. |
They were seriously going to have a water fight?! THIS WAS AWESOME! Maddie bee-lined to the goggles and water gun area and collected one of each. THIS. WAS. WAR. As she headed back to her little area she'd been in, she heard the professor mention something about not being able to see anybody else in the room. BUT...WHAT?! What was up with the lesson today and not being able to see at all? Yeah, yeah. She knew why. She just didn't think the game was quite so easy anymore. The third year took a good look around the room to get a feel for where everybody currently was, and then she slipped on her goggles. Whoooa. The professor hadn't been kidding when he said she wouldn't be able to see anybody else. It felt strange, but hey, at least it'd be kind of fun to be hit with water! Alright. GAME ON. |
Anyone can take the hit! Nothing wrong over here. Especially once Professor Hirsch started explaining about the Hidebehinds, whom Ronan thought should really hunt down and eat whoever gave them such a dumb name. You know, if they hadn't already. Also, they don't like the smell of alcohol? Interesting..... He retrieved a pair of goggles and a water gun, took a moment to put a silencing charm on his shoes (which would be the biggest thing to give him away if he hadn't), put the goggles on......and jeez, the professor wasn't kidding! Everything was just a big ol' blur. Not a sensation he enjoyed, at all. Shaking off the feeling enough to think, though, he stood silently until he heard the sound of someone's footsteps and.... *SQUIRT* Hopefully, he hit whoever it was. However, he wasn't staying to see, moving a foot to the left of where he had been standing, knowing that the stream of water would've given away his position. |
Hit by Ronan, taking shots at another-anyone can claim. Feeling better after the copious amounts of chocolate, Emmalyn quickly took down notes then dashed to the front to grab her goggles. Sure, it was in the dark again, but at least she knew she wouldn't be getting hurt from the water. No danger made it much more fun. After putting on the goggles and arming herself with the water gun, she started moving slowly towards the group when all of a sudden she was hit with a blast of water. "Whoever that was, you got me." Her ears strained to hear which student was close enough to her to get her wet so quickly, but she was unable to detect any sound. The silence near her only lasted a moment when another set of steps approached. She whipped around and started shooting towards the steps. *Squirt* *Squirt* Squirt* She shot three time, each time moving just a bit to the side to make a wider area of attack. |
Nettie's game plan was simple - put on the goggles and just shoot at everything. Hopefully, she would hit someone and not go crashing in to everything - maybe her quidditch skills had sharpened this past year and would help her with this?! Grabbing her water gun and her goggles, she grinned to herself as she placed them over her eyes. Instantly, all the people around her vanished - and she suddenly regretted not trying to mentally remember where everyone was before putting them on. Oops. At least she could still see the desks and stuff. The last thing she needed was to go to the hospital wing because she had been stupid and walked into a table. She was PRETTY sure she had seen someone near her to the left before she'd put on her goggles - so she turned to her left, aimed her gun and started to fire. PHEW PHEW PHEW! |
Hit by emmalyn and trinetta. Despite being still mad at the Professor for the first activity they had to do, Dorian was actually intrigued by the next activity and he wanted to participate as well. At least now he knew what was coming instead of being thrown in the dark Choosing a green colored water gun, Dorian tested it by squeezing it and when it shot water he smiled. He then picked up the goggles and walked to the other side of the room, taking not of where most of the students were at the moment. Though it would be useless information the moment he put on the goggles. Once he found a perfect spot, the Ravenclaw pulled the goggles over his head and covered his blue eyes. He was left in the dark again but this time he wasn't scared because he knew what was happening. He had not taken a step or two when he felt water hit his shoulder by who knows who (Trinetta) and not a moment later another hit by (Emmalyn) Great start.... The teenager turned around with the same spin he had used to punch the dummy earlier but unlike earlier this time it looked far more cooler as he had his water gun at the ready and he started to shoot ......at the wall behind him. Take that! |
She could hear that guns were firing and students were being hit, but she wasn't sure how she was supposed to know if any of her shots had landed on a target. She tried to walk about as silently as possible, but the water gun was making too much noise when it shot to be completely silent. Deciding that no sound was better for the moment, she stood perfectly still, even half holding her breath so she wouldn't make breathing noise. Her ears strained to pick up the slightest of noise and she allowed her head to slightly track towards the movement she heard. Once she thought she had her target, she spun and started shooting as fast as her finger could pull the trigger. *SQUIRT* *SQUIRT* |
Maddie could hear other people shuffling around her, but she couldn't, of course, figure out where they were. It was strange, but in a way, she knew it was giving them a good feel of what it was like to be attacked or doing the attacking when you couldn't even get a sense of your surroundings at all. A splash of water darted right past her, forcing the Hufflepuff to get her head fully back into the game. She turned on her heels and shot a few blasts of water right in the direction the water had originally come from. She had no idea if anybody was still there or not, but it was a chance she was willing to take. In return, she was splashed not once, but twice by...well, somebody (Emmalyn). It was actually kind of fun to have a water gun fight, even if they were probably supposed to try and avoid getting hit! She positioned her water gun straight and head and shot two blasts of water in front of her. |
Why yes, she could tell she’d peaked the Professor’s curiosity with her musings. This was honestly why she adored the man, he understood curiosity and had a heavy dose of it himself. He genuinely liked making discoveries and didn’t shoot ideas down. “She’d respond based on a set of predetermined commands.” She offered up. “Kind of like.....algorithms in programming that decide how the program works based on a set of prompts. That way it requires less focus on my part after the initial setting up of the combination of charms that’ll then be linked.” In order to get her subjects working the way she did, she’d had to do a bit of research into the muggle subject. The theoretics of it had proven quite relevant to her own work. “It’s how I’m working towards autonomy for the cats and some amount of pseudo autonomy for Lise.” Once the doll was instructed on how to work, it would make decisions based on the environment. The cats were showing great promise with this. And it seemed the activity was starting. As she headed up to collect a pair of goggles, the Ravenclaw found herself wondering how the man would truly know if they cheated. All she’d have to do is begin the charm on her eye again. Jane was already resting in her pocket and could be her eye. But no. She respected him enough to do the activity, even if only half heartedly. Jessa hated physical activity and running around squirting water at each other...wasn’t how she wanted to spend the remainder of the class. Wand still in its holster, Jessa turned in the new darkness. It didn’t take long for her to feel streams of water jetting at her. Based on direction, she was gonna start walking in the opposite direction and try to find a wall before her brain began interpreting this as a locked room. Listlessly she raised her own water gun sending off some jets of her own but her plan was a solid one. |
For anyone to be the "victim" Daisy had to admit that she wasn't into such childish games but it was better than standing around doing nothing. She struggled to not roll her eyes underneath her goggles as she started to fire her water pistol at random areas of the classroom. She constantly moved softly as she fired. |
Trying to keep as silent as possible, she stepped around the room, waiting to fire upon any movement she heard. Her ears were becoming better at picking up the slight sounds of movement the longer she had the goggles on and she felt like she might be tracking someone. That was until she got hit, from two different directions (Maddie and Daisy). "Awe. Whoever those were from, they got me." She tried to return fire from where the two blasts came from, hoping to land a hit on her targets. Then, realizing her statement only clued in all around her of her location, she quickly dashed across the room with her arms out to hopefully not ram into any other students. The stress and panic of the earlier challenge was melting away with the fun water fight. Her laughter kept coming, even though she was trying to not make any sound. She knew that the lesson would soon be over and they would have to return to reality, so she was going to enjoy ever moment of the game. |
After splashing the wall with water from his water gun, an act he was not aware of doing as he was blind at the moment, Dorian heard something that sounded like a ruffle of a robe and he turned to face the source. Water gun at the ready, the Ravenclaw aimed in the direction he had heard the sound and then began to spray. Surely he would hit someone right? He did not stay still for too long however and began to walk around carefully in order to find more students to splash. He was so focused on listening for sounds while he walked that he did not even realize that he was walking straight to the wall opposite of the one he had splashed earlier |
Oops. jumping back in :3 Apparently she was supposed to enter her door, given the fact that she hadn't entered her room just yet. But see, unlike some of her peers, she just stood in the doorway... figuring it safer to just stand there, watching. Unable to see anything, because it was dark. And if she didn't move, that was good, right? The shuffling sound wouldn't even know of her existence. Except her heartrate beating like a million miles per hour. It was when the room became more well lit that honestly, Skylar felt the shock of the brightness and was just trying to recollect her thoughts and listen to Hirsch for the last time. What did she learn from that activity? Standing still was safe. Not doing anything, was safe. But not doing anything was also not learning. The hidebehind? Was it too juvenile of an answer for her to say something about it 'hiding behind'? Because she was certain she wanted to hide behind a stronger dueler. Ah well it made sense for it to be a hybrid creature, since it was a hybrid word and all. Water gun fight. How would they know how many people they hit? And if they got hit, were they automatically out? Slipping on the goggles, it felt almost as when her door had opened for at the start of the lesson. Things were hazy. Thank goodness she didn't have to play quidditch with these. And took aim. And by taking aim, Skylar literally squirted her gun in a 360 degrees around the room. |
This wasn't exactly chaos but something about it was still entertaining to watch, especially from the perspective of someone who could see every action and direction of the water guns. It was because of this that the man had a highly amused look on his face as he leant against his desk. Did Mr Katharos have a vendetta against the wall? Because he seemed a little too happy to be shooting water at it. Green eyes swept the room and he couldn't help but raise his eyebrows at Miss Diggory's 360 degree aim. That wasn't exactly the point of the activity, and was probably considered cheating. But there was also a part of him that thought it was too clever to just stop her altogether. Still very amused, the man glanced down at his watch before calling out, "Just to remind all of you, you've got five minutes left until the end of the lesson! Just the five minutes!" So if they really wanted to hit someone with water, now was probably the time to do it. To make things a little bit harder, Hirsch also whipped out his wand and gave it a complicated wave. At once, another sound joined the midst of the water shooting and the hurried steps: the sound of chirping. There were no birds in the room but it might make the activity a little bit more challenging. Just a little. OOC: Juuuust a nudge to let you know that in OOC times, you've got roughly 24 hours until the end of the lesson ^^ |
Five minutes?! But Maddie hadn't hit enough people yet! She hadn't even been hit enough either! That wasn't exactly the objective, but water gun fights were really cool! Objective or not, she liked getting hit with the water! Although, if they only had five minutes left, she should probably start focusing more on hitting other people. She started to just randomly take off, but then she remembered that she was basically blinded to other people. She didn't think Hirsch would like it too much if she mowed down two, three, or ten people. Maddie just paused where she was and blasted a few squirts of water in front of her. She'd thought she'd heard some footsteps passing by and was hoping she could hit a few people. Just as the water left her water gun, Maddie felt several blasts of water hit her all across her chest. It was almost as if somebody was just squirting water in all angles at once! Ahem, Skylar. |
Just as she prepared to go all Rambo style and blast her gun, she started hearing strange chirping sounds moving all about the room. It suddenly hit her that birds must be making the sound. Creepy, hollow boned creatures of flight moving all around her. In fear of being struck by one of the birds, or pooped on, she flung her body on the floor and started shooting her water gun up towards the ceiling in an effort to keep them away. Cool game just gone wrong. She hated birds almost as much as she hated being in the water. "Professor? I'm ready to be done. May I take off my goggles and get away from the birds?" She was wet, she was tired, and she wanted to be away from the birds. She also wanted to get up off the floor before she was stepped on. |
.... What? Hirsch glanced around until his eyes landed on Emmalyn who.... was asking to take off her goggles? Already? He was slightly confused, if he was completely honest with himself, but considering the fact that the girl couldn't really see much of her surroundings... "We're finishing very shortly but if you want to, yeah, you can." Maybe the lack of birds would make her feel better. Hopefully. It didn't take long for the five minutes to be up but even so, the man was checking his watch every now and then. When the last minute came to a close, he placed a thumb and index finger in his mouth and let out a small whistle. "Everyone take off your goggles, put down your water guns, that's it for the day. Excellent attempt at using your sense of hearing to direct your aim. I hope this has helped you learn to trust your other senses a bit better." And taught them that just because they couldn't see something, it didn't mean that they couldn't defeat it. "That's all we have time for today so once you've placed your goggles and water gun back in the boxes, you're welcome to go. If you need to dry yourself and don't know the spell, you can come to me or get an older student to do it for you." Pause. "And feel free to help yourself to the rest of the chocolate: I can't finish all of this on my own." Cue a cheeky grin. "Class dismissed!" OOC: !!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks so much for coming! Whether it was for one post or 937983479, I appreciate the effort :loved: Hope you guys enjoyed the lesson! I'll leave the thread open for 24 hours if you want to post your charrie leaving. Thanks, once again ^^ |
Once Professor Hirsch gave her the okay to remove her goggles, she had them off and was looking around to find the birds. After scanning the room and not finding any, she felt rather silly. She should have known that it wasn't really chirping from birds, but another distraction from a very tricky professor. Either way, class was over, so she took her goggles and water gun back to the table. Not knowing the drying spell, she looked to one of the other students for help. Once dry, she went to the pile of chocolate and took several pieces. No need to leave Professor Hirsch with a pile of uneaten chocolate to deal with. On her way out, she turned to the professor "I'd like to thank you for the class, but I'm still a bit upset with you over the whole dummy thing. I understand why you thought it was a good idea, but...well...I would rather not have had the terrifying experience." Realizing she was getting herself all worked up again over the dark room events, she huffed, abruptly turned, and walked out. |
