It was the middle of October, and though it was very chilly at night, in the middle of the day it was still moderately nice out. Not too hot, not too cold...just right. It was a perfect day for this Creature Companions activity Professor Wayland had planned. He had set the time for right after lunch so every one had a chance to get a good meal in before all the exploring they would be doing.

Tristan stood by the edge of The Great Lake, no hay bale throne this time, next to a table that had all kinds of swimming gear, gillyweed, and wand holsters. He really hoped this would be a fun activity for the students. Let the adventure begin!

Wanting absolutely nothing do to with the chaos that was occurring further into the lake, Emmalyn quickly made her way towards the waters edge. The gillyweed was still in effect and she wasn't sure if she would be able to leave the water before it wore off. Happy to be in a seemingly safe spot, she patiently waited for Professor Wayland to return and rein in the students that had apparently lost their minds and left the safety area.

She did wish she knew what was going on out there. She could hear strange sounds coming from the area and flashes of light that appeared to be spells being cast. She hoped that none of the students were hurt or in grave danger.

Aside from her worry, she was kind of enjoying floating just under the surface, letting the warm sun shine upon her and her hair flow like seaweed all around her head. It was quite peaceful.

No one was moving, and Rylee needed to be safe. Without saying anything to her cohorts the blond took out her wand. Casting wasn’t the first step, the first step was swimming as fast as she could. ”Hey Yoon can you guys get Professor Wayland? Imma go swim for Reese and Rylee” she explained as she decided now was the time for bravery. Reese was her friend, and Rylee, she liked her.

Beth didn’t want those water demons hurting her at all - besides, she could work with them and fend them off if she needed to. Sending a jet of water at them could work – or, or maybe…wait was that shiny? Were they attracted to shiny things.

Kick – kick, she was gliding through the water toward Reese. ”REESE, we need to work together.” a part of her hoped that Quinn had also taken this moment to be brave. As she knew more than anyone that she was brave - and if anything happened she needed to make sure that her friends were okay…two wands were better than one.

When she got closer she couldn’t help but notice the treasure. Treasure…what was going on there – the girl dove down reaching out and grabbing a piece before tapping Rylee’s arm. ”we need to go, now!” she exclaimed as she started retreating from the cave. It was time.

Okay, so Eria could be quite intimidating, even to Quinn, and Quinn had no intention of disobeying her. At all.

Which, of course, was when Beth happened.

Quinn was just starting to relax now that Eria was getting her friend out of danger, when her best friend decided to toss herself into the danger. Her best friend that Quinn owed her life to.

She floated there a fraction of a second just watching, helpless to stop it, as Beth swam down to the cave. For a brief moment she considered trying to accio everyone out of there by her clothes, but Quinn wasn't even sure she could succeed at one person, let alone all three of her friends.

Quinn groaned angrily in her head and called Beth something not to be repeated in polite society and swam after her. Some one need to make sure they didn't all die, and that someone was probably Eria, but she might need help wrangling and saving everyone, and Quinn was prepared to assist.

Still cursing her friend out in her head, Quinn swam right into the cave after Beth, and nearly hexed her WHEN SHE STOPPED TO PICK UP SHINY THINGS! But it seemed like Beth had Rylee now and was starting to head back to the mouth of the cave. "Grab her!" All this would be pointless if Rylee didn't swim for the exit with them.

Quinn aimed her wand at the treasure beneath and in front of them. "Ventus! Flipendo!" And following it up lastly with a shooting spell, blasting the treasure with waves of compressed air, pushing them, sending the treasure up and out all around them. It would sink again of course, but in being blasted up and around them and sinking back down, would hopefully act as a smoke screen and allow them to escape in the confusion.

Hopefully.

She turned back to the cave mouth, and joined Beth in dragging Rylee out of the cave.

Quinn’s voice was a relaxing thing almost even in this moment. ”got her, you get him” she said as she reached forward and started pulling Rylee out of the cave.

Beth was near the treasure when it happened, the smokescreen of flying sinking treasures. ow, that one wasn’t fun. The shiny bits of metal floated around and something had smacked her head, ”I’ve got her,” she said as they began pulling Rylee to safety…well, relative safety.

The grindylows could still be around and now, now at least they had three wands ready. ”someone needs to get Professor Wayland or I’ll hex them in the face” she slytherin hissed under the breath and continued kicking away, they needed safety.

Okay, throwing metal treasure up around them wasn't that smart in hindsight, but Quinn greatly preferred getting hit a little from flying and sinking trinkets than possibly having a grindylow snatch her on the way out. Even if she currently had a necklace or bracelet or something tangled in her hair from it.

Wait...who? "Grab who? Him who?" There was no way she could hope to drag Derf out in time if that's who Beth meant. Besides she didn't think she'd really need to drag him out? Ewan was helping drag Rylee out. Reese never actually went into the cave. Was there another boy she hadn't seen? Or was Beth confused about the gender of the head girl and the gryffindor girl Quinn didn't know. At all.

Nope. Whatever mystery boy Beth was referring to, he was on his own. Quinn was leaving. She turned and swam after Beth, Rylee and Ewan.

Trinetta had been hanging back, swimming towards the cave with the other adventurous students when - GRINDYLOW ATTACK! Letting out a little squeal that came out in a stream of bubbles, the first year quickly ducked behind some of the shimmery seaweed that they were currently swimming through and waited out the attack. Spells went every which way, people were yelling - and Barty and Professor Wayland were nowhere in sight!

Thankfully, after a few moments, the commotion died down, and it seemed like the grindylows had retreated. She swam out of her hiding spot with every intention of thanking the older kids who bravely defended them - when she spotted something SHINNNNNNNY.

Like a moth to a flame, Nettie's eyes opened wide and she immediately began to move towards the treasure hoard. "Derf, look!" she called out, not thinking at all that the older prefect might be a bit shaken up by the attack. All that mattered right now was the TREASUREEEE. She was just about to grab some when someone started SHOOTING the trinkets into the AIR, causing a cloud of sand to flare up around her. She waved her hands and frowned, looking around as she tried to swat away the sand, when she spotted Quinn with her wand in her hand.

"QUINN! What are you DOING?!" she asked her housemate. Was she CRAZY!? This treasure could be worth a FORTUNE and she could break some of these pieces with her carelessness! Pieces of treasure were floating around her now, and her tiny hands reached out and grabbed handfuls of whatever she could get.

Quinn hadn't seen Nettie until the girl chided her. She was almost to the cave mouth, and risked looking back, only to see Nettie fixated on the treasure, snatching some here and there as it all sank back down around her.

Oh, for the love of Merlin! After this anyone else going into the cave to die for treasure they'll not be able to enjoy on account of being dead, was on their own to die!

After this.

Fully annoyed now, Quinn dashed back into the cave, grabbed Nettie by the arm and started dragging with all her might back toward the entrance. "Just leave it!"

Quinn still had her wand out and was not at all above attempting to stupefy Nettie if needed to get her out of the cave.

What was going on?!

Actual grindylows looked at them as if they were their dinner, and Daehyun didn't want to get eaten anytime soon, thank you very much. He nodded when Beth had asked him to go fetch professor Wayland, even started swimming towards him and the merpeople, before seeing someone already headed that way, so he turned back.

... and Beth was already out of sight.

She and Quinn had gone to grab Rylee and Reese, the grindylows were looking at them like they were about to attack again anytime soon... what could he do to be helpful?

Think, think, think.

He looked around. If he wanted to be useful, he needed to use what he was best at, that being defensive spells. You bet he practiced endlessly after the horrifying dummy attack in DADA in his first year, so he was quite confident he could figure something out, anything. But for that, he needed to use what he had around him.

... seaweed and water demons. Well, that was a huge bummer.

For a moment, the shiny objects distracted him, but then he looked past them, and an idea struck him. He could form a shield around his friends using the particles on the ground! Would be a muddy one at that, but maybe it could work? Pulling his wand out of the holster, he traced a vertical line upwards, followed by a swift flick, and said, "Protego Munio!"

He didn't think it would work at first, but he was too determined to do something, so an actual wall started forming in between his friends and the grindylows as the particles on the ground started molding together. Maybe the water demons would even forget about them, as the wall was supposed to somewhat camouflage them. He just- needed to keep that up till they were all away from the grindylows.

... help would be greatly appreciated.

There was...a lot going on. Far too much for the Hufflepuff to process. But all that truly mattered to the fifth year was that he had thrown Rylee out of the way and Ewan seemed to be okay as well. Those two were in his direct line of sight anyway.

Oh, and there was Nettie. Who he had almost forgotten had been trailing him this entire time. He really...needed to be more conscious of this as an upper classman now and someone who, well, people actually followed. Crazy as THAT sounded.

But then there was just complete chaos and all the spells being cast, people flailing this way and than, treasure (though all it was was sparkly masses to him) being shot up into the air only to fall back down...there was literally very little that the Hufflepuff could do to keep up. And then something heavy thunked his head (unknowingly one of the bracelets from the treasure collection) and a few coins showered down on his defying gravity mass of blonde hair. "Ow!" he hissed, reaching up to swat at whatever it was that had nestled into his hair...but some of it had become TANGLED there in the flurry and his ruffling only made it worse. A bracelet. A hook. Hopefully that was it. And when he looked in the palm of his hand he found a few coins....which he instantly flung away.

"STOP! IT MIGHT BE CURSED!" he shouted, flashbacks to items given to classmates by their OWN CLASSMATE had put people he cared about under a curse that had them BURNING ALIVE ON THE INSIDE.

AND WHERE WAS PROFESSOR WAYLAND OR BARTHOLOMEW HENRY?! Hadn't the spells or numerous people who had swam off when the grindylows had first appeared done SOMETHING!? It all was just sending the Hufflepuff down a spiral that he could not afford right now.

But it also made him wonder. Were the grindylows protecting this treasure? Had the merpeople put it there and then the grindylows since they domesticated them and took them as pets? Were they STEALING from the merpeople?! Derf suddenly felt sick as he clutched his hand to his chest, a coin stuck to the palm of his hand there.

"Nettie! It might belong to the merpeople and we may be stealing FROM them," he said as he tried to reason with her. Which, well, Quinn had already disturbed their resting place by blasting them up into the air if that theory were true. He sure hoped Professor Wayland was as skilled at calming a Hippocampus as he was a potentially angry group of merpeople.

"EVERYONE! Back to Bartholomew Henry!" They could tell Professor Wayland and the squid about the treasure and where they had found it and, well, yeah. Something could get sorted. "PLEASE!"

The nice thing about being half a squid? She could see and hear quite clearly under water. Sure the bubblehead charm would have given the same effect, but she was capable and confident in her transfiguration skills which meant showing them off. If Ronan Carter was going to show off the fact that he could cast a bloody patronus, she was going to show off human transfiguration. The other thing? She was distractible, which also meant she HAD noticed the merpeople and the Professor and heard Professor Wayland telling Jessa the time was now for independent exploring. Which meant, the Slytherin Captain didn't need to be told twice as she swam away from the group. Being a Slytherin and a seventh year, she'd already heard all the history talk about the Triwizard Tournament anyway, so it wasn't like she was missing out on much. She wanted to explore parts of the Black Lake she hadn't seen yet...

Including swimming to explore that green and tall seaweed underwater forest, because she was curious... Yes she might have been oblivious to the fact that she wasn't the only one swimming 'away from the group' as Derf and Daisy and Stasya were exploring the forest first.... but the underwater forest was vast and she found herself exploring another side of the forest ... away from her classmates and the excitement they were encountering...

Which meant, since she was on the other side from her peers, she didn't notice the gleaming shine from the depths of the forest. It wasn't until her peripheral vision caught sight of red sparks.... that her attention was drawn away from the peculiar seaweed that she debated plucking for further exploration ...

Had she not heard the underwater shouting from a certain Hufflepuff Prefect, she might have been content with her independent exploration, but wait, what?? She just allowed herself to stare from the distance, watching, wondering vaguely if there was some sort of attack? Might be cursed? What might be? The potential future cursebreaker was intrigued by whatever it was that the Hufflepuff prefect was shouting about.... Because she'd been completely pre-occupied and missed it. Also, Myers should host a lesson on underwater plants because they were greatly more interesting than the greenhouse plants, in her opinion.

Daisy was with Emmalyn as she saw blinding flashes of light and heard a multitude of shouts in the distance. Her level of fear was rapidly rising as she hoped that her fellow students were going to be okay. She wanted Professor Wayland to return very soon.

There was so much going on around him but he felt almost frozen with fear as he heard his sister's muffled screams from somewhere in the dark depths.. And all the shouting of their fellow adventurers only confused his overwhelmed and anxious mind.. Each voice sounding a bit like the next crashing against his ears and none of it registered.. Only one thing did... Rylee... He had to get to her!

But then he was grabbed by the wrist.. Who had his wrist?!.. He looked over and it was Eria.. Why was dragging him out of the cave?!.. HE needed to go back!!..

" Lemme go!.. I gotta help Rylee! ", he screamed out as he struggled against her iron grip. How was she so bloody strong?!

As he was pulled out and to safety he saw Beth going into the cave and then Quinn... NO!!! Why are girls always in need of saving?!... Never mind that a few moments ago he himself was being dragged to safety.. Now his worries only grew!.. His sister and best friends were all in that cold, bone chilling cave... All he could do was watch and wait for help to arrive.. IT didn't matter that Derf had told everyone to find and stay with Bartholomew.. He wasn't going anywhere until he knew they were all out and safe from the Grindylows.

Those students that touched the treasure can take a breath of relief, because the treasure is in fact not cursed at all. If it had been then the effect’s would have shown immediatley. So go on grab what treasure you can and leave the cave promptly.

The nifty wall that the red robed boy put up works for a while, but it sadly fails after about a minute due to a combination of a moderately difficult spell being casted by a second year and underwater magic not always working the same as on land.

Honestly. It was like she was invisible. The blonde could kind of see what was going on, and she did not get why people were not just listening to them. It was like these first and second years wanted to get hurt. She was pretty sure she wasn't like this when she was there again. Did they just not listen to people anymore? She was sure that they would be the first ones to moan if something did happen. She was making a note of the hufflepuffs who weren't listening though, and she planned to talk to them later about it. She wouldn't have rogue young puffs.

But for now, she had to try and at least get people away from the cave. "Reese! Stop it!" The hufflepuff warned, shaking her head at the younger student. "Be quiet and listen. Get back to safety. We can't make sure everyone else is safe with you going on like this" and honestly, he was just wasting time when they could be getting other people out of the cave. So shut up, and behave. Otherwise she'd have to be letting professors know. Students couldn't come on these kind of things if they wouldn't behave.

And now, with that dealt with, they really needed to get everyone back to the big group. Hopefully the students would listen to what Derf was said. If not, well, maybe they'd have to do some informing of heads of houses. "come on guys... hurry up...." It was as if they craved danger and getting hurt. The seventh year just wanted to graduate in one piece. She sighed, glancing around after she'd spoke, trying to see Professor Wayland. Where was he? Gosh. It was lucky that nobody was in any real danger.

Rylee couldn't comprehend much of anything that was going on around her. The screaming of her friends, the flashes of spells all went unnoticed to the young girl. All she could see was bright green eyes locked on her blue ones, that grindylow held her gaze and it smiled at her but not a friendly one, one that stuck fear deep within, an emotion she didn't feel all to often. If she had gotten herself bitten or scratched or harmed in anyway she didn't even realize it.

Only when she was grabbed by the arm and yanked rather roughly backwards sending a sharp pain into up her arm towards her shoulder did she seem to somewhat realize the situation. Somewhat. As in like the pain in her shoulder and Derf being there beside her kind of registered in her head now. Her eyes were still fixated on the whereabouts of the grindylow, she wasn't at all trusting that they were indeed gone.

There was no time to get her bearings back when she was getting grabbed at suddenly again by Ewan the action making her nearly scream once more in fright. More hands and people (Beth and Quinn) were trying to grab her and pull her away and it was really messing with her mind and she couldn't think clearly and now... Quinn's spells sending sand flying up all around them and the shiny treasure flying through the water nearly sent Rylee into a state of panic. The water was dark and murky, full of sand, glittery shiny pieces of treasure that had been the reason she had originally went into the cave now came raining down on her something getting caught in her hair and making her scream and flail trying to pull it from her hair only managing to make it worse.

Somehow during her state of panic and everyone's shouting and those brave ones that came to get her a voice reached her ears. It was that voice that Rylee then followed out of the cave covered in sand, scratches and whatever treasures may have been tangled in her hair. She swam directly towards Reese and without a word hugged him tightly, she couldn't get in trouble for hugging her brother could she? Hopefully not. Chances are she was going to be getting in trouble for wandering off though.

Eria wanted to shake her head at most of the students here. The person she was most surprisingly disappointed in though, was Beth. Baby snake had failed at being a snake today and stuck herself right into harms way without observation or thought. Very disappointing...she'd voice her concern later.

There were enough students like that lion boy who looked about Eria's age, handling the lion cub. No need to senselessly shoot more spells and stir up already disturbed and enraged dark creatures. It was point blank stupid. Quinn would be getting chided at too, she deliberately ignored the she snake's warnings and joined the stupid mess of lion cub rescue after the danger was already managed.

Honestly, why bother with a rescue when it was already over? Make it a full out cluster and just make all the lake denizens angry why didn't they!? She'd expected better of the two girls and her brow was furrowed in aggravation.

As for the little lump of copper mop that was fighting her, she simply kept swimming with him for a moment. He was heavier than he looked, and every struggle caused the older girl pain where there was contact...but she was more stubborn and unyielding once she'd reached a decision.

"Panic will get you killed quicker than any creature, wake up!" Her voice was slightly heated, though mostly from pain rather than anger. "Look, she'll need you up here where its safe. There are people already there getting her and blasting spells all around. Use your head, she needs you here Copper."

Eria didn't trust him enough to let him go....until she saw the lion cub, a few stranglers, and her two failed apprentices coming into the home stretch. Good...she didn't know how much more her hand could stand. Letting the boy go finally, she floated alone for a moment. Her wand was still ready, she was still watching just in case, but she returned to her own silent little bubble like she generally did. Hopefully, squid man or the professor would do some clean up and maybe send the kiddies back to the castle...

Reese was refusing to wave his little white flag and give up his struggle to get at his sister.. He shot a nasty look at Hattie for scolding him as if he were a babe.. As if!.. He was more than capable of taking care of himself thankyou!.. Disregard the fact that his Savior was still clamped down on his wrist.. " What do ya got?.. A vice grip for a hand?!.. Lemme Go!", he screamed again..

He was about to yank his arm away from the Snake Lady again when he saw her.. He saw Rylee!! " Ryyyylllleeeee!", he hollered as he pulled free and swam straight for her. He hugged her so tight when she was close enough, looking her over as he pulled away. " Why would ya go so far in alone?!.. Ya coulda been killed!.. Don't do that again!.. Not ever!.. Okay?!", he scolded her.. It mattered not that she was exactly one year his senior.. She had scared him half to death and he was going to let her know just how much did not appreciate having a heart-attack at the age of eleven..

All Rylee wanted to do was hug her brother. That was it. Clearly the younger badger had other things in mind however and pulled away from her to look her over much sooner than she had happened for, her blue eyes quickly looking away from him failing to focus on anything else and soon settling on the ocean floor below them. She knew what was coming. Felt it in the hug. Heard it in his voice when he screamed her name. She had scared him. So now he felt it just fine to holler at her in front of everyone about it... and well... she deserved it. The lioness said nothing at all her thoughts suddenly focused on one thing now that she knew Reese was alright... she wanted to go back to her dorm room.

Reese could see immediately the sorrow in his sister's eyes.. And the fact she couldn't meet his gaze after he had started to reprimand her in front of the entire group didn't escape him either. As soon as he saw that her injuries were quite minor he hugged her tight again. " I love ya, Ry.. I don't know what Id do if anythin' happened to ya.. Just please don't scare me like that again.. Okay?", he said in a softer tone..

Quinn was relieved to see Rylee had made it out. Though that was more for Reese's sake than Rylee's. He would be devastated if his sister were injured badly, or worse, and Quinn didn't want to see him hurt like that. He was her friend.

But now, it was time to get herself out. Her treasure screen wasn't going to be there for much longer. Most of it was already settling back down again, or had managed to tangle itself in her hair. It was only three pieces, in all likelihood, but it felt, in the confusion of the moment, it felt like half the horde. She hadn't noticed Daniel bought them a bit more time with his shield.

"Nettie! Come on," Quinn hissed. She gave the girl another tug in hopes of getting her moving, and then let go and swam with as much speed as she could back out of the cave, and kept swimming until she was back, near her friends. She gave Eria an apologetic look and nodded silently in Beth's direction.

Watching Reese with his sister, it was more clear than ever how much she meant to him, and deep down, though she wasn't consciously aware of it, Quinn knew she'd have to work things out with Rylee at some point. She was important to the Boy and he was her friend.

Merlin's beard, what in the world was going on in that cave?! Lydia had remained behind while Beth and then Quinn and finally Daniel had all headed to the cave versus doing the sensible thing and remaining behind where it was safe. Where in blazes was the professor and Bartholomew when you needed them?? It sounded like kids were almost getting eaten in that cave! She knew it! She had told them...you'll probably get eaten, but HAD THEY LISTENED TO HER? NO!

Lydia sighed underwater, which she hadn't realized was possible until that moment. She'd floated closer to the seaweed forest and the cave to get a better look at the commotion, but she was still keeping a safe distance. So she was there to witness Eria dragging Rylee's little brother away from the cave and then Rylee, Ewan, and some others emerging as well. She witnessed Rylee and Reese's reunion, and she was SO GLAD they hadn't ended up being eaten.

Lydia swam closer to Rylee and Reese. "Are you guys okay?" she exclaimed. "What in Merlin's beard happening that cave?!"

Lydia glanced inside the cave. It was dark, and a lot of sediment and junk had been swirled up by all the excitement and several spells being cast. But she couldn't help but catch a glimpse of something...Holy crow, was that TREASURE? Look at it all! Gold dubloons and rubies and all sorts of amazing things. She was sorely tempted...Oh boy was she ever...But it would be incredibly stupid. She didn't want to lose Slytherin any house points, and she definitely didn't want to be eaten by whatever had attacked everyone in the cave.

But just one dubloon maybe?

Kye-Shark was swimming through, trying to get used to the weird way her eyes seemed to be placed. It was throwing her off slightly. After she started getting used to it, Kye-Shark was able to see the common room window and she just couldn’t help herself. She swam by it to see the reverse view, circled back around and went to rejoin the group. Imagine being able to come out here so easily to study or read? That would be kind of cool. As Kye-Shark got back to the group they could see some merpeople. Now that was one Lake Creature that Kye had not had the opportunity to talk to. Kye-Shark was swimming with the group, but eyed the other group carefully. Hmmm… what are you doing little group? She had already gone off once, she didn’t need to be that person. Besides, it looked like there were plenty of deserters without Kye adding to it.

It didn’t seem that much time had passed though, when there was a definite ruckus coming from their direction. Instinctively, Kye-Shark went to where the cave sat and saw that it was CRAWLING with grindylows! Kye-Shark swam through to try and disperse them. She was NOT trying to eat them or anything. Finally it seemed, what with all the spells and commotion, the grindylows scattered and Kye-Shark’s eye caught the glimmer from the floor. Well… she didn’t have to worry about the temptation of taking it since her fins wouldn’t hold it for her! She supposed she could hold it in her mouth, but… hm. Now maybe it was because she was part shark, but next thing she knew she had gathered up a fair mouthful of treasure and started heading back to the main group. Which luckily she could smell, so they were easy to ~~hunt~~ find.

Tristan had already been on his way back when he heard the commotion. The Merpeople's village was so far from where he left the students it had taken awhile for him to get back, even swimming as fast as he could. As soon as he saw Bel swimming his way, she pointed him in the direction of the raucous. He was in too much of a hurry to get back to them to talk to her more.

He swam as fast as his flippered, webbed feet would carry him, swimming through the lucious green seaweed, and quickly came into view of the group. As he saw the scene, his eyes bulged out of his head with shock, and he swam even faster towards the mouth of the cave. "Everyone back up, please!" He called to them, more out of panic than anger. He shouldn't have left them for so long, and where was Bartholomew Henry?

He quickly noticed there were still people in the cave, and noticed the gleaming eyes of the Grindylows. It almost took his breath away at the sight of all them. There were so many. Out of the corner of his eye he saw an unnatural gleam, that caused him to look down. It was a very large treasure. He was surprised to see it, but now was not the time to focus on it. He had to get the students to safety. As he entered the cave, he calmly and quietly said to the last few students in it, "Okay...slowly back out of the cave. Don't make any sudden, quick movements or they will attack." Though honestly, they might attack anyway.

From their hiding place deep within the cave, the grindylows kept watch on the tasty little morsels swimming so close - and yet so far. They licked their chops, anticipating the banquet that awaited in another part of the cave. It was driving them mad with hunger! They waited for the spells to cease, but they were growing impatient.

They couldn't ignore their growling bellies any longer! The grindylows charged out of hiding, their sharp teeth bared. Most swarmed the small humans, while a few brave souls who craved a bigger meal ambushed the adult and the shark girl. Some bit into arms and legs. Others tried to drag them down, and some wound their long, bony fingers around the humans’ necks. They would have their feast soon!

THERE WERE GRINDYLOWS GRABBING AT THEM,…heck, they were even grabbing at Professor Wayland. Beth still held her wand in a vice grip, she had been backing up of course when the attack happened. ”NOT TODAY,” she yelled at them her voice still sounding rather off in the water.

When they started reaching for them, biting – scratching and trying to trap her classmates in watery graves she began to move. Began to think, then she remembered it. The spell she’d learned about at Quidditch camp – the one that was banned at Appleby-Arrows games…”careful…and sorry if I hit you guys” she muttered as she fired off an arrow shooting spell toward the bony hands of the grindylow nearest her. She didn’t want it hurting her friends, she just wanted to scare it off really.

Now…what did they learn in History…spells, spells…something about Harry freaking Potter…right, right. The revulsion jinx wasn’t that what it was? She didn’t know that one yet so she’d have to wing it with something else…something, that might not work. Pointing her wand again at another one not sure if it worked or if anything worked. ”petrificus totalus” her voice was small, meek, muffled by the water but the light. Her wand cast a temporary white light…hopefully it worked, she wanted it to work. She needed it to work.
