After following the sloping, earthy passage to the Hufflepuff Common Room, you'll find yourself in a large circular space. The room is cozy, low-ceilinged, and filled with natural sunlight streaming in from the circular windows that are level with the ground outside the castle. If you peer out, you'll have an amazing view of the grass, flowers, and perhaps even people lounging around.
The room is decorated in the Hufflepuff house colors, filled with beautifully polished wooden furniture, and the comfortably worn sofa and chairs sitting in front of the fire place for those looking to relax. The portrait of Helga Hufflepuff has been hung with care above the wooden mantelpiece and she looks out over the common room, holding her golden cup up in a toast.
For your seven years here at Hogwarts this will be your home and there's no better place to get to know your second family than right here.
She smiled and nodded as Maddie spoke. She also wanted to get the work out of the way so she could paint her toenails. The pinks were great, but she also wanted to try out doing her toes in Hufflepuff house colors. They had another game coming up soon and it would be fun to be all puffed from head to toe. “Sounds like a great plan.” She agreed as she put some finishing touches on her notes.
Once Maddie was finished doing her second reading, she handed over her foot casts in exchange and got to work. It seemed much harder trying to read someone elses foot. Even though they had been housemates and teammates for a while, she still didn’t feel she knew her well enough to try and predict her future.
Either way, it was the assignment and she knew she had to try. Her notebook was place on her lap and her quill was twirling around in her hand as she studied the footcast.

NOTES:
Who are you doing this foot reading on: Student reading- Maddie Kemp, Hufflepuff third year
Chosen foot: Right
Feet characteristics (cracked, swollen, flat etc?) and meanings: Looks like a Greek foot to me. It means she’s athletic (yes- because she’s on the Quidditch team with me. Of course she’s athletic), energetic (this seems true as well. I think she’s part pink cupcake with pink sprinkles), and creative.
Toes:
Big toe: Her big toe looks large to me. Which means the energies are abundant. Big right toe is joy, and Maddie does seem very full of joy.
Second toe: In the casting it looks to me like her second toe is shorter than her big toe, which means she will have normal finances. I can’t say a lot about that since she’s still a student and not really in charge of her own finances.
Fifth toe (baby toe): Looks to be curved under a bit and towards the big toe. Stands for looking towards the past and hanging on to the past.
Overall, I feel this is fairly accurate of Maddie. I don’t really know about her past and I can’t say what will happen in the future, but her feet say she’s athletic and joyus and I think that’s spot on.
After putting the finishing touches on her reading of Maddie’s cast, she glanced around at the polish colors again. “I’m finished. I think I’m going to start painting my toes Hufflepuff colors, then paint a little snitch on one big toe and a badger on the other.” She placed her notebook on the floor, away from the water bowls, and grabbed the colors she needed. “Want me to pass you one of the pink polishes?”
After watching Miss Maddie and Miss Emmalyn do the foot readings, she snapped her fingers and a little tray, just big enough for her feet to fit inside, appeared. It was filled half way with a sort of mud mixture, which she placed her feet into. Once firmly imprinted, she carefully lifted her feet and snapped her fingers once more. The mud mixture instantly hardened, leaving Tinka footprints behind.
"Tinka make prints like studentsies. Tinka feetsies not look like studentsies. " It was the first time she noticed that she only had four toes and the studentsies had five toes. She held her still mud covered feet out before her and wiggled her toes before placing them in her little bowl of warm water to clean them off.
Once it looked like Derf was ready to share, she reached over and grabbed his foot casts and started the reading. It seemed a bit silly to her to study the cast when she could simply hold is foot and look first hand, but then she would have hold his foot and her notebook while trying not to tickle him. Plus, it was going to be quicker for her to do the readings without having to ask someone to stop moving or keep them from seeing what she was writing.
She sat the foot cast down before her on her lap and pulled out her notebook and quill. She let her fingers feel around the imprint, finding a few cracks here and there, and studying how long and wide the toes were before taking quill to parchment.
SPOILER!!: Foot reading number #3
Who are you doing the foot reading on: Derf Ashburry-Hawthorne Hufflepuff
Chosen Foot (left/right?): right
Feet characteristics (cracked, swollen, flat etc?) and meanings: Common/Roman foot-Plain Jane personality,
cracked heel- his security base is cracked/he’s indecisive/unable to express emotions,
flat feet- practical realist
Toe characteristics (round, crooked, big, small etc?) + meanings:
Big toe: Large rounded big toe- Joy is abundant and exaggerated, sensitive and tactful
Second toe: Short- wishes and desires are difficult to express,
Little toe: bent- self conscious of own thoughts, may fear failure and responsibility
General reflections on what your foot says about your personality or your peers/staffers: (do you agree with what you’ve found or not? Could you have done the reading differently)
I agree that Derf may have trouble expressing his emotions, but I would not say his personality is plain jane. He does seem practical. I don’t believe he fears responsibility since he is a prefect.
Once she was finished with Derf's reading and handed back his foot cast, she noticed Tinka had made a foot imprint as well. It was on a different material than the ones they had made in Divination class, but she could still make out the shape, size, and cracks needed for a reading. "May I?" She asked as she reached for the cast to take a better look. She knew she was going to have to think a bit extra for the reading since the house elf only had four toes, instead of the five on the list, but she figured it could be done.
SPOILER!!: Foot reading number # 4
Who are you doing the foot reading on: Yourself?, Tinka, House Elf
Chosen Foot (left/right?): Left
Feet characteristics (cracked, swollen, flat etc?) and meanings: Square or peasant foot- means she’s steadfast in her choices and never willing to give up, flat feet- practical realist, relies on the support and help of others.
Toe characteristics (round, crooked, big, small etc?) + meanings:
Big toe: stands apart from other toes- she needs time before she lets the outside world know her inner most thoughts. Large and rounded- sensitive and tactful, sorrow is exaggerated.
Second toe (no middle/only 4 toes): Shorter and fatter than big toe- average finances with wealth arriving after 20 years,
Little toe: retangular- energy expressed in plain, common-sense terms (trust and sex), Little toe bent towards big toe- looking back towards past/hanging on to the past.
General reflections on what your foot says about your personality or your peers/staffers: (do you agree with what you’ve found or not? Could you have done the reading differently)
I don’t know Tinka very well, but a lot of these seem correct for her. She seems very steadfast and determined. She works with all the other House Elves to keep Hogwarts clean and fed. I wish I knew more about her to better determine if this was a good reading or not. I hope to chat with her more in the future. She seems very nice and she really loves her whisk.
"Thanks, Tinka! That was very interesting." She smiled brightly at Tinka and placed the house elf's foot imprint back where she got it from. Since she was finished with the readings, she reached over and grabbed the yellow and black nail polish and began to paint her toes in preparation for the next quidditch game. Yellow, then back, yellow, then black, she went over the toenails.
"Hey, Derf, are you ready for me to paint those nails?" She asked her friend as she finished her own toenails. There was a fine bush on the table that would work perfectly to paint a badger on his big toe. "I can do black nails with a canary yellow badger on your big toes, if you would like."

If there was one thing that Kaylah Aideen O’Sullivan hated more than being at Hogwarts, it was the fact that there was always drama at Hogwarts. Without fail, something happened. Something that detracted from the little time that she genuinely wanted to study in the first place. Which, granted, truly wasn’t that often - but that wasn’t the point.
The point was - one of the Professor’s had just sent their patronus to the common room to warm of trouble. Inferi trouble. Which, honestly, sounded grotesque… They were never pretty to look at - they needed a new stylist. 100%.
Looking at her twin sister, and at the common room door - she tried to decide if she wanted to put her life in danger and attempt to help or if she wanted to try and find the safest place possible to wait it out.
Neither sounded ideal. She had after all, just sat down to do revision for her NEWTs.
