If you want to be the last to leave or want to hang with the more rowdy crowd, then the back passenger cars of the train are for you. Just like the other cars, a long corridor provides access to the many compartments, each labelled with a letter, available for you and your friends to hunker down in until the train has come to a complete stop. Cushioned seats and large windows, allowing perfect views of the British scenery on your journey, await.
Well, what are you waiting for? Slide open a compartment door and make yourself at home. Place any of your belongings not in the luggage car on the racks above you. Chat with your friends about what you did this summer, enjoy munching on the snacks you bought from the trolley lady, get ahead of the game by reading your textbooks, or take a long nap as the train travels over numerous hills and mountainsides. Whatever you do, exhibit your best behaviour -- the prefects will be regularly patrolling the corridors and poking their heads inside your compartment to make sure you are doing so.

It was probably frowned upon, but Aaron had broken away from the Botros hoard, eager to run off to find the best possible compartment for them to inhabit. To start the year off right! Of course, it hadn't occurred to the small Hufflepuff that Abey would probably sit with all the other important people in that one compartment. If he had remembered about the badge..... No, no, Alanna wouldn't feel at all comfortable sitting with loads of people, and he would always think about her first, and not the need to shadow his cousin.
EURG! He just wanted to be like him. Abey Botros was the absolute coolest person alive. Along with West Odessa! (He'd gotten the updated lookbook and everything.)
....BUT.... but... it would be okay, since he had SISTERS he could sit with, too. Junia and Alanna (obviously)... And they would probably want snacks. Girls always wanted to eat, and he would make sure they had food. He'd even brought extra money from his own savings to surprise them. So, his plan was to find a place to sit and then go raid the food trolley.
Slipping into an empty compartment, Aaron tugged a small leather bound book from his pocket. Very carefully, he flipped to the last page where a list of things had been written down in sloppy handwriting. Below a few other crossed out items read 'Get on the Hogwarts Express'. With a muggle pen, he quickly marked through it.

If Charlotte was to be believed, the train was dripping with cousins. That was small comfort to Chloe, who missed being the smallest and least noticed piece of a matched Kettleburn set... and was now the only piece left on the shelf. But cousins were a pretty good trade, and Chloe was on the lookout for any of them. For forced cuddles and one of the hundreds of snacks she had shoved into her bag.
She poked her head into one of the cars furthest back, spotting a younger boy. Hufflepuff, right? "Hi hi. I'm looking for someone or I'd stop to chat. I like your book. It makes you look like you're probably a really good secret ninja spy or something." Chloe twinkled at him a moment before closing the door and continuing down the passage.
The next car was empty, and Chloe had the brilliant thought that maybe... they could just come to her. Or Zita, or Derfy, or Simon? She'd wait here, and her people would find her.

Sheeee probably shouldn't have been but she was running! The addrenaline from Running into a brick wall then her mum in hysterics and her baby brother crying and her dad trying to comfort her mum she just ran into the train. She did however run right into the compartment that was in view of her parents and brothers and went right to the window where she began waving. "Merlin's beard mum please stop crying... I'll be back for Christmas holiday and I'll mirror you tonight!" she'd be lying if she wasn't an OUNCE or two terrified but she was so hyped for this.
It wasn't until a few moments later she noticed another person in the room.. a boy. "oh hi." that's all she could muster out at the moment as she waves to Cairo and Mark... Bye bye stinky brothers! This cool cat girl was off to HOGWARTS!

It was THAT time of year again and, honestly, summer had gone by entirely TOO quickly for the Hufflepuff's liking. Which meant that it had been the good sort of busy, and there was a lot to look forward to...but there was also loads to be anxious about. And anxious was what the fifth year was as he did his best to avoid arriving at the prefect's compartment just yet, hands seemingly glued to his mop of blonde hair and ruffling it as he strolled about the corridor - and just in time to spot Chloe slipping into one of the compartments.
And then he was picking up his pace just a hair so he could catch the door to her compartment before it shut entirely. "Chloe, hey!" he chirped in greeting with a grin. "So...did you get one?!"

How. Just... how?! Kye was boarding the Express to Hogwarts for the very last time! After the quickest summer possible, she was standing here in the walkway, eyeing the compartments nearby. She hadn't quite decided on where she intended to actually settle down for the ride, and decided to walk through the cars as she pleased. BECAUSE SHE COULD OKAY? It was crazy how young these ickles looked each year, and now more than ever. The excitement, the nerves, the worries, the naivety... She remembered being one of them. Ohhh how time flies though! She let Edie walk along beside her, and she peered in the compartments as she looked for familiar faces.

Chloe finished sliding her bag onto the overhead shelf, but she hadn't even had a chance to sit down before her Derf appeared in the doorway. She smiled hugely at him and immediately gave him a bear hug, practically lifting him off the floor. Apparently she was more than just coltish arms and legs... she was also wicked brute strength.
"You have a little wrinkle between your eyes. Are you okay?" Chloe released him and stepped back, giving Derfy a sunny little twinkle. "I did get one, and she's absolutely a Clara, though I know you didn't like that name, and she's the sweetest baby. I brought her with me, but my dad found her and wouldn't let her on the train."

The hug he had been fully expecting - it was CHLOE, after all - but the whole lifting him up off the ground and everything was just a tad unexpected. Though he wasn't bothered by it, not really, and let out a bit of a surprised chuckle woven together with a muffled grunt as his friend somewhat squeezed the wind right out of him. Better than knocking it out of him though, right?
"It's good to see you too," he laughed, reciprocating the hug to the best of his smashed-against-his-sides arms' abilities. "I do?" he asked, scrunches up his face a bit more to bring even more emphasis to that. Purposefully this time. "Mum wears some gunk on her face to get rid of lines. Kinda looks like mud." And he often wore loads of mud on his face so...this was peculiar.
Sliding into the seat - because more patrolling could wait - Derf patted the spot next to him for her to join him and laughed. "If she is absolutely a Clara then my opinion sorta doesn't matter, you know? If it feels right to you and her then it's right!" And his grin could not be contained because she FINALLY had her crup puppy! Now if he could just get Stasya a goat that wasn't of the plushie variety... "That's too bad...though it's hard sneaking in dogs to Hogwarts. Specially since they bark and such," he sighed a little as he reached into his pocket where Scamander was presently relaxing. "Though...reckon you could at least go ask Professor Wayland about keeping her at Hogwarts. Though she would hafta stay in the barn. Officially anyway." Derf, well, Picketta hardly kept a residence in the creature nursery while term was on and she had taken a keen liking to sleeping curled around one of the fifth year's bedposts.

Skyler was late boarding onto the train. Too much family. It was her second year! She ended up in the back cars. She blinked as students were already talking. She softly tapped on the compartment door hoping they would let her sit with them.

UGH this train was so crowded! There were sooo many students at Hogwarts! While that might make some kids anxious, Nettie really liked the idea of being at a crowded school - lots of opportunities to make new friends, anddddd it would be easy to keep her head down and out of trouble. Yes, that would be perfect!
Still, she was a bit too nervous to ask anyone to sit with her, so she instead found an empty compartment and sat in there instead. Then, she pulled her small grey and white kitten, Rudy, out of his basket and let him relax on the seat next to her with a grin.
"Almost there, Rudy!" she assured her tiny pet, clapping her hands slightly in excited anticipation, even though it was just her and the kitty there.

...and now that her luggage was stowed away, Maddie decided to go find a seat. Or an empty compartment. Doubtful. Probably just an empty seat. By this point and time, she'd be super surprised if there were any completely empty compartments. Off she strolled past the front and middle parts of the train. She'd decided on the way home in June that teenagers should sit in the back of the train, and since she was now the BIG 1-3, that made HER a teenager.
Nevermind the fact that she barely knew anyone and still didn't have a solid group of friends after two years here. That was going to change! She was going to be more social and get to know more people. Wasn't that what teenagers did? YUP. She watched a girl somewhat close to her age (she guessed) stroll into a compartment. Bee-lining that way, Maddie pulled open the compartment door and peered inside. "HI!" she greeted. "I need somebody to sit with. Do YOU need somebody to sit with?"
Maddie could feel her energy building up, and pretty soon, teenager or not, she'd be bouncing around like a ping pong ball in a phone booth.

"Sure!" she said. Thankfully those fears were proving to be unfounded. She grinned again and scooted over to make some room.
"I'm Trinetta, but I go by Nettie for short," she told the older girl with a smile.

It appeared that she didn't know her own strength, considering the grunt, and Chloe gave Derf some careful pats to make sure he wasn't broken. WAS HE BROKENNNN? "It isn't the kind of line you get rid of with goop. It's the kind of line that means something is bothering you. And... it's gone now!" So he wasn't bothered anymore, or else, more likely, he was distracted by the idea of a puppy and was happy again.
Chloe plopped onto the seat beside Derf and curled up against him. It meant the world he wasn't mad that she'd ignored his advice, but once he met Clara, he'd understand. There was never any other name for her. "I'll talk to the professor about having her there... but she probably would rather be at home and sleeping with my parents than at school sleeping in a barn. Don't you think? It's cold and lonely out there." And there was nothing Chloe hated more than the idea of Clar being lonely. "It isn't fair that cats are allowed by dogs aren't."

Chloe, please. He was a rather ridiculous human being, but considering his now brawny beater's build and thick skull...well...it would take a lot more than an affectionate hug to bring this Hufflepuff down. Even if Chloe was no pygmy puff when it came to strength. "Oh," he laughed, ruffling his hair a bit now that he had both his arms back. "Though you were gonna suggest giving me a facial or something."
Or, you know, he could plant seeds himself.
Settling into his seat, he nonchalantly draped one of his arms around her shoulders - since she had said this sort of thing was OKAY to do despite her having a boyfriend and stuff (all of that still terrifying to the Hufflepuff, so he felt a little jolt of anxious jealousy that she was so...calm about it all. And maybe a little that Simon, of all people, had a significant other before him - but as long as his friends were happy, right?). "Yeah...it's why I'm always sneaking Picketta out, you know? Skinship and such. Reckon she wouldn't have made me her Home Tree if I had followed the rules, but now she is slowly starting to trust humans again so...no regrets," he concluded with a grin.
But before he could weigh in further on this topic - and expand on the cats and dogs one - there came a knock on the compartment door and a younger student was peeking her head in. "Um...hello," he greeted her with a smile.

Ah, there was the person the meerkat patronus was looking for. The small, translucent creature scurried past the small Slytherin holding the door open and up the Hufflepuff prefect's leg before standing on its hind legs on said young man's knee. When the meerkat spoke, it did so with the voice of a certain Head Boy and an raised eyebrow (or the place where the eyebrow would be if the creatures had such things, anyway). "You still a prefect? If so, your presence is requested in the Prefect's Compartment ASAP, please and thank you. And bring Flynn with you if you can find him and he still has his badge." The message delivered, the patronus slowly faded away, as if it were never there in the first place.

Maddie grinned. A little part of her was afraid the girl would think she was a little weird for just bouncing on in a stranger's compartment. Nettie, as she called herself, didn't seem weirded out at all, though. "Cool!" Maddie said, and she finished her way inside and slid the compartment door closed. "Your cat seems pretty excited to go to Hogwarts, too," she added with a laugh. "Are you new? I'm not. I'm going to be a third year." Yeah. She was still a little too proud about the whole turning into a teenager thing.
"I'm Madeline," she said, following Nettie's lead, "but nobody calls me that. It's Maddie." They might have become friends, too, had it not been for a loud shriek sounding in the corridor. The third year looked toward her new friend. "Either somebody's already in trouble, or there's something really cool and interesting going on." She poked her head out into the corridor to see what all the fuss was about.
