The legendary portable swamp created by Fred and George Weasley was once large enough to consume the entire fifth-floor corridor. Needless to say, this greatly irritated the notorious Dolores Umbridge when there were no instructions on how to remove it and the then teachers didn't seem to mind that it was there. Today a small section of the swamp remains, roped off in tribute of the redheaded twins' historic act of protest.
When you are getting close to this reserved section of the corridor, you will know without question. The remaining swamp still smells like an authentic swamp, look like an authentic swamp, bubbles like an authentic swamp, and will indeed suck you in if you cross over the rope and step in it. Avoid the Weasley swamp with care is the best advice you should heed while on the fifth floor, especially if you're running late to class. While it must have been an impressive and humorous sight back in the mid-90's, just praise Merlin that you don't have to make your way across today.
On this particular late tuesday evening in january after dinner Laurel wandered around the upper floors, not ready to go back to her tower just yet. Her head was swivelling with thoughts and she knew that she needed to make some sense of them or she'd never be able to get some proper sleep. Letting her feet lead her she soon found herself standing eye to with the weasley swamp on the fifth floor.
Taking in the thick swamp smells that made her nostrils want to close, Laurel stepped closer to the roped off section to admire the impressive sight. She stood and silently watched how the swamp bubbled before she pulled out a letter that had arrived earlier that day from Aaron. Reading it she smiled at first but then just as quickly huffed in acute disappointment.
She waved the letter around in the air angrily and felt how she lost hold of it and watched how it sailed straight and soon landed with a small splash in the swamp water. "Oh bugger!" she exerted exasperatedly. Now what should she do?

Flynn had lost track of the time - or so he says - in the Room of Requirement practicing through his lines for the play. He, of course, knew his lines, but he was trying to perfect his Great and Powerful Oz voice. The voice he was trying to use was making his throat dry, so he had brought along a cup of tea with him to sip of as he practiced.
He had been locked up in the room for at least two hours, so when he finally emerged, he was a little surprised with how late it looked outside the window he passed by. Surely, he didn't leave his co-Prefect in charge of making sure no first years started a food fight during dinner........... oh well, if he did, it didn't bother him one bit. He may of felt guilty for .02 seconds, but the feeling eventually withered away. Mayfield could handle it all; he was only here for the ones that wouldn't listen to her.
He walked down the corridor, heading towards the staircase, deciding what he would get in the kitchens for dinner. Grapes and a turkey sandwich on gluten free bread, perhaps? It was his to-go to meal.
It was only when he saw his Head of House that he came to a halt. "Sup, Professor?" His trademark greeting.
It did not take long before the swampy smell started to make his noise burn, and he wrinkled his nose as an effect of it.

"Just great." Laurel mouthed out exasperatedly towards the luscious swamp as she watched her letter from Aaron disappear out of view. Granted she hadn't been very pleased by the news in said letter but she hadn't wanted to lose it. Her prediction had come true but unfortunatley not in the way Laurel had wanted.
She was debating to either do over the rope and into the swamp to retrieve her letter the muggle way or try to fish it out with her wand when she heard steps behind her. Who was wandering the halls at this time of night? All students should be back in their common rooms by now.
Turning around at the unmistakable sound of prefect Flynn Kowalksi's voice, Laurel put her hands to her robed hips and asked "Shouldn't you be helping Vivian with the younger years, making sure that they don't turn the common room upside down?" Sorry she wasn't exactly in the mood to be polite and mannered.

Flynn's dark eyes glanced down at her hands when they went to her hips in a very mother-like way. By that, he meant he knew he was about to get in trouble, and all he was doing was walking down the corridor. He looked back up at her face when she made that snappy question, and as a response, he made a disgruntled face.
lol, should of kept walking, Kowalski....
"If the young larvas turn the common room upside down, I think we will have a bigger problem on our hands," he casually pointed out. "A bigger problem than me not being there." If the first years did cause trouble though, he knew his co-Prefect could handle it. It wasn't like the larvas could do much when most of them only came up to waist-level.
He kept a safe distance from the swamp for reasons, but he did notice something floating in it. "Did you lose something?" He asked, hoping to divert the conversation away from why he wasn't in the common room right now.

Flynn's disgruntled face told her that he expected that he was about to get in trouble. The term larvas threw her off and made Laurel actually curious instead of exasperated and irritated for now. "Why do you call the younger years larvas?" She couldn't help but ask curiosity very evident in her tone. Nodding she admitted quietly "And you might be right. I assume Vivian will send a patronus for help if a problem of that magnitude were to arise." Laurel wouldn't put it past the youngsters though. Some had a trouble causing streak in them.
Laurel cast a glance over to the swamp, taking a few more steps towards it as she gestured to it. "Yes, I lost a letter...." Remembering that Flynn hadn't actually answered her question she asked again. "Now what is the real reason why you aren't in the common room right now?"

It smelled horrible and as weird as it sounded, Kay was still sometimes drawn to the swamp. This was only because of the bubbling that happened there. Something about it was soothing. Wrinkling her nose, she approached the swamp. Truth be told, she would have loved to see the swamp in all its glory when the Weasley twins had first unleashed it.
Too bad this could not have happened.
She'd just have to satisfy herself with staring at the bubbles forming and popping from the patch that remained.

For some strange reason he was walking along the swamp. Maybe it was the fact that the Weasley twins had managed to put a swamp into the building and have it sustain itself. Over time, it was fascinating. He noticed Professor Stewart was standing around and he walked over toward her. “Hey there Professor Stewart, how are you?” he heard the swamp bubble and pop here and there.

While she had been watching the yucky bubbles pop, Kay had randomly started to hum that popular tune from her favourite movie- Titanic. If one was fond of Muggle movies, they might recognise it for it happened to be My Heart Will Go On. Such a great song and it happened to be quite a classic. The bursting of bubbles, the sounds that was, were no longer that loud to her.
Only Patrick's words got through to her.
"Hello there, Mr Dooley. I'm quite well.'' Kay beamed. "I was having a moment with the bubbles here and that tune I was humming.'' She couldn't help but hum another few lines. "How have you been? Preparing for the year end exams as yet?'' Those would be upon the students before they knew it.

Patrick could understand the getting lost in your own thoughts he often found that happening to him around campus. He would sit out under the trees and next thing he knew he should be running off for a class or to practice. Nodding his head he stopped when she asked about exams. Eyes growing the size of saucers he looked up at her, "Uh I haven't, I feel like this year has gone by so much faster than last year. Yet, we have the same number of days each year... for the most part."
He really needed to work on his rambling when he became nervous. Just bringing up exams had Patrick nervous. He wanted to do well, but he also just wanted to head back to the states to see his Grandparents and possibly hang out with all of his friends once he was back from "boarding school" as he had told his friends the first year he came to Hogwarts. "Excited for the end of the term professor?"
