The office of Professor Charles O'Curtains is slightly less bright than its earlier incarnation. Cutains cover every wall even though there are no WIndows to cover. Yet there is no darkness - everything is basked in a strange amber glow, a glow which flickers on and off occasionally. Blink and you miss it.
Two chairs are positioned in front of an old looking brown desk. Behind this desk you could sometimes findProfessor Curtains sitting on another chair sorting through papers or books. A large bookcase covers the backwall.
A single music box sits at the center of this desk. It looks to be made of gold, but this is only a plating. Are you allowed to touch it? Probably, though it's polite to ask first.
OOC: You may post here after knocking in the waiting area.

Contrary to the resentment Kay had felt when Rose had taken over Ansley's post as History of Magic professor, she could hardly believe that she accepted that Charles now held the job. Perhaps it was because she had decided to be a little more accepting. Things hadn't turned out so bad when Rose joined the staff.
Today, she decided to bring Charles a 'Welcome to Hogwarts as a Professor' present for her new colleague. Later on, she'd be doing the same for the Potions master. Kay approached the office door and knocked a few times. Charles was in, right?

Whoever knew being a Hogwarts professor involved so much work? Well, technically everyone who had ever taught at Hogwarts knew, but the workload had come as a surprise to the former history battle scholar and music box collector.
Not that he was complaining! This WAS fun, living at Hogwarts, mingling with staff, and teaching the bright young minds of the younger generation. He'd be in the clear as soon as he finished going through this paperwork for the next lesson...
Just then someone knocked on the door to his office. "Just a sec!" he said as he put his papers down and went to open the door.
"KAY!" he greeted enthusiastically, smiling widely and opening the door, beckoning her inside with a polite gesture. "What a pleasant surprise! Come in right in."

"Okay!'' Kay called in response to being told 'just a sec'. Probably Charles had been busy but she was hoping this wasn't the case because she hadn't wanted to disturb him. When the door open, she beamed. The enthusiastic greeting was refreshing. "Hallo, Charles. Thank you.'' Still smiling, she strode into the office, glancing around. It was the first time the woman visited. She noted the bookshelf and the music box especially. "That's beautiful,'' was her comment with a nod towards the music box.
"Oh, yes. I almost forgot. I brought you something.'' In her hand was... that's right. A book. As a book lover, Kay was fond of giving books as presents as much as she was of receiving them. "I'm not sure if you've read Great Expectations but it's a wonderful book. Think of it as a 'Welcome to the Staff' present.'' The book was held out to him.

It was always a pleasure having visitors over. He'd already had two student visits this morning (in which they discussed homework) but the Muggle Studies professor was the first staff person to drop by so far. He smiled as she stepped into his office and complimented the music box. "Ah I'm glad you like it. I collect music boxes. Would you like to see this one closer? Here, go on, try it." And he handed the music box to her. She could wind it up if she wanted. "That one in particular I found on an old battlefield from the goblin wars, battered and hardly useable. It was buried halfway into the ground. Surely, I thought, it must have belonged to a gallant soldier. I brought it home and cast several fixing charms upon it so now it works good as new. I carry it to honor the memory of its past owner."
A present? How very nice of her! Charles smiled as he was given the book."Great Expectations," he read the title out loud. "You know, this is perfect. I have not let read this book, though I have read others by Charles Dickens. a Christmas Carol, for example. Very fine book. Am looking forward to reading this one. Thank you."
"Would you like to sit down?" he asked politely, gesturing to one of the two visitor chairs. "Something to drink, perhaps?"

Battlefield? Goblin Wars?
Kay was very interested in the history of this box and so she listened with attention. "Just think... you found an object that must have meant so much to someone during that period of time.'' A pity it had been lost but wonderful that Charles had found it. "I didn't know you collected music boxes. Have you got the rest of your collection here with you?'' Did she want to try the box? Kay took the box and wound it up.
She beamed. "You're welcome. You'll enjoy it, trust me. Do you read a lot?'' If he did, then Charles was in luck. There were many books that he could borrow from her. "Sure. Tea would be great, thank you.'' The woman took a seat on one of the chairs.

Charles nodded agreement to Kay's words on how much this box must have meant for someone."Exactly. That's why I treasure this particular music box above all the others. Who the owner was I do not know, nor even what side he was fighting on. Most times I imagine he (or she) was a human, but just as easily he or she could have been a goblin. Histories little mysteries often fascinate me more than the larger mysteries, and I keep that box as a token of that. Most of the rest of my collection is back at home, though I have a few more in the cases by the bookshelf." He paused for awhile to let her hear the music without having to listen to his yammering.
"In fact I do read quite a bit, I love books" he said, rating the accuracy of that statement as mostly true. He had read quite a few books, but admittedly was a little below average when it came to fellow historians, who tended to read a good deal more than average. But his answer was definitely true. "Tea, coming right up." And he conjured up a cup of tea for the Muggle Studies professor - and one for himself too.
As they drank he elaborated on the topic of books. "Besides Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol, two other classics I rather enjoy are the Wizard of Oz and Carmilla. Have you read either of those titles? I would love to hear your opinions on them."

Listening to Charles, Kay realised just how passionate about history. Well, he had to be otherwise he wouldn't have taught the subject. She remained silent for a moment, taking the time to listen to the box's tune. It was a rather nice one. As it washed over her, she felt herself be calmer and more relaxed. "I bet you've tried to trace it back to the owner,'' she said afterwards and at the same time she was looking towards the bookshelf to locate the case full of boxes.
A fellow bookworm? The woman was more than pleased to hear this and it showed because she smiled brightly. It meant that they could recommend books to each other. How wonderful! "Thank you.'' She took the cup then proceeded to take a sip. "I actually haven't read Carmilla. Do you have a copy that I can borrow?'' Since it was being recommended, why would she not want to give it a shot? "The Wizard of Oz, I have. I actually prefer the book over the movie even though the movie has become a classic. It's just that being swept up in words is a lot more interesting. And the writer did a fantastic job.''

Had he ever tried to trace the owner of the music box? "I have indeed. Usually I succeed when trying to find someone's descendants or histories of ancient artifacts. Not so much here. Ah well. I suppose some things are better left mysteries, at least for now."
Something a little less mysterious - but no less wonderful, was literate. It was nice seeing how much Kay cared about classics. He too had a fond spot for them. "Here is Carmilla," he said, and he walked over to his bookcase and took out a slim volume. "By Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu, considered by many scholars to be the inspiration behind Bram Stoker's Dracula. You may take it with you when you leave. I'm sure you'll like it - if not for the style, then for the historical relevance."
He was reminded of something then. "By the way, as a switch of subject, I have to say I'm impressed by the enthusiasm your students have for the homework you give them. Creative, telling them to paint the school walls in shades of neon pink and bright blue."

Thinking of you, Ms. Zoryn.
That was disappointing but at the same time, not so much. Disappointing because Charles never learned who was the owner while on the other hand, he got to keep this beauty of a music box. "Mysteriousness is a wonderful thing,'' she told him. "You've got a fascinating thing going here. Not many persons collect these.'' Or at least, she had not heard of many doing so.
Oh, wow! He was actually going to trust her enough to lend her one of his books. Not that she went around damaging books but some can be picky about whom they lend their books to. Kay beamed. "Why, thank you! I'll have it returned to you by the end of the week since I'll get started on this tonight.''
The woman tilted her head. "I think you've gotten mixed up. I certainly did not tell them to do that. Maybe it was Gaston as a part of practising a charm?''
