| | Hufflepuff Table For those who belong in Hufflepuff House, in the middle of the Great Hall is where your table awaits. Gold banners containing an embroidered black badger float above the polished table in honour of the loyal Helga Hufflepuff. Already placed on the tables are silver plates with accompanying cutlery and goblets. All that is missing right now are the mountains of food and pitchers containing your favourite beverages.
Though your stomach might be growing as you take a seat on one of the long benches next to the table, it is important to not get hangry -- gnawing your arm away or jabbing your fork repeatedly on the surface of the table will do no good whatsoever. Give everyone some time to get settled in and wait for Headmistress Hawthorne to deliver her speech. Keep yourself preoccupied by catching up with your fellow housemates or those who are visiting from the other tables until it is time to sink your teeth into the hearty and delicious meal prepared by the house-elves.

Looking around at the table, she realized everyone was older than her. She wished someone would talk to her, because she wasn't good about making the first move. Another First Year Hufflepuff. Night was grateful. "I'm Amanda, but everyone back in America calls me Night." She was suddenly conscious of her Chicago accent.

"Yes, please call me Night. I'm from around Chicago." Night was feeling really out of place, and she couldn't for the life of her remember what she was supposed to be like as a Hufflepuff. All she remembered was that Hufflepuffs were good at finding stuff, but she lost her glasses and her wallet at least four times a day and could never find anything in her messy room, which was already a tornado wreck even after only two weeks of living in England. "What are most of the Hufflepuff students like? |

The ones I have encountered are tremendously loyal, clever, brave and there for others. My advice would be, don't judge anyone from any of the Hogwarts houses by the individual house's reputation. Our house has had many alumni in the past that have made this house proud and that continues with current students. I'm sure you'll make Hufflepuff proud. Besides, I'm here to help, Night." |

| BOOMBAYAH! | #PuedoPorquePiensoQuePuedo | Certified Blank and Random Person | Raventastic She tried to make herself comfortable even though deep down she was like ASDLFKSNHSHDUD!!! Diandra sort of felt overwhelmed with all the welcome greeting and stuffs. Yes, it was nice to be welcomed but still, she was just not used for this. The newly-sorted badger smiled at the younger girl who introduced herself as Daisy. "Hello... and thanks. I'm Diandra." And there was another student, who seemed kind of older than her. "Yes... I am, in fact." Did she really look like a new kid? Oh well, maybe because she was the only non-first year student who wore plain robe with no house color, that's why. "Nice to meet you, Harriet. My name is Diandra."
And there was another... oh wait, two students acknowledging her presence. Okay, Diandra could see that Hufflepuff people were... quite friendly. Smiling, she repeated the introduction for like the third time. Or was it the fourth? Well, what kind of nerd that keep counting that? Maybe next time she needed to wear a name tag or a t-shirt that had "Hello, Hogwarts! I'm Diandra Callista Salim and nice to meet you all!" Except that she wasn't kind of that person who's daring enough to wear those kind of t-shirt, ahem. "Hello there, my name is Diandra and... it's nice to meet you two, Randa... and Scarlett."
Was she done now? Could they eat already? Merlin, she was sooo tired and wanted to sleep.

Daisy smiled at Diandra. "It is nice to meet you, Diandra." Considering that she was older than Daisy, the younger student asked, "Did you transfer from another magical school?"
Daisy was starting to get very hungry and a tad sleepy.

| Oh Hello Mom says I have no sense of direction, so I packed my bags and right. So what was once a Hufflepuff on the Train clad in a full white Tuxedo was now in Hufflepuff garb. Minus that weird point hat. Did anyone even wear those anymore? Simon had figured those things went out of style 100 years ago. The Young Badger no longer looked young, but rather thinner and taller than he did one term ago. There was also a significant change to his face-look. No glasses. Simon finally went to contacts or maybe, Mr.Rockefeller got him some magical eye surgery or something. it was contacts Quote:

He tried not to let it get to him— the overwhelming anger at himself for being an complete and utter disappointment to his family name— but that was a rather tall order for an eleven year old. He sullenly took his seat and looked around the table at all of his new housemates.
Al tried to muster up his manners, he tried to talk himself into engaging, but he was a disappointed kid. And he didn’t want to interact. Unless he was forced to, really. He decided the best use of his time now was to watch the sorting ceremony. For every 3 cheers he had to give out for a newly sorted Badger he took a quick intake of breath from his inhaler. Then he watched as a familiar face walked onto the stool. It was the Toussaint he shared a compartment with. Then there was a BIG SMILE on his face as his Compartment buddy got sorted into his House. "Congrats, Al. Welcome to Hufflepuff." This eager expression on Simon's face would last about of the feast. He knew as soon as he would get into his Dorm with Derfael and Eno. The poor Hufflepuff would have to deal once again with that Clump of Molten Clothes on the Ground that Simon keeps forgetting the Name Derfael gave to it. |

Gendry walked into the Great Hall and straight away to the table for his house. It felt like ages since he'd been here and after falling asleep on the train, he was famished. He hoped the sorting hat would be about it's business so they could eat. He looked around at who was near him to see if there was anyone to talk to.

| eeeeeeeveryone! Welcome to Hufflepuff new peeps! Welcome to a new term all! astronomizzle ♧ gryffinDORK | & the rest is drag ♣ #badluckDerf Derf had hung back, taking extra care to make sure that all the unsorted first years and transfers were heading in the right direction and none of them attempted, as he had, to try and get a head start on exploring the castle and whatnot. Feasts did have that image of being stuffy and horribly boring, after all.
His hanging back reasoning was not entirely selfless, however. Once everyone had filed where they needed to be, Derf had made a quick excuse as to why he just HAD to drop in and check out the inside of a storage closet on the ground floor. It was once he was inside there that he took out the Gryffindor prefect badge he had nicked from mum's things and reapplied the Color Changing Charm from earlier since, well, it was beginning to look a bit ORANGE since the Hufflepuff yellow was fading and the red seeping through.
Stupid flesh-eating shrub. UGH. Maybe he would get lucky (or would that be unlucky since er...he hadn't exactly informed mum and dad about things) and mum would find his REAL badge during her gardening in the coming days.
Maybe.
But aaaaaaaaaaanyway....
So it was that Derf eventually DID make his way to the Hufflepuff table - though he DID continue to glance over his shoulder at Zoryn and her dealings with the Slytherin house ghost and accompanying house elves in the entrance hall...just in case...though he reckoned that was a safer dynamic to leave her unsupervised than in the presence of Skylar. Thus, the fourth year tore his attention away from there to look briefly up at the staff dais where, to his relief, Professor Wayland was still there. One could NEVER be too sure about these things, even if the man had said he was coming back...Hogwarts was always full of surprises so it was always best to just expect the unexpected. More exciting that way too. But excellent. Derf could go see the man first thing tomorrow and outline his plans. There were also a number of unfamiliar faces and, well, Derf was somewhat unsettled but also eager to see how these new employees would find their footing in Hogwarts. Taking up post here after all that had happened last term...and after the Monster and portal incident - ALL of which had so many loose ends and unanswered questions that left this Hufflepuff spiraling off into all sorts of directions - was...rather noble. His eyes in particular fell upon the Healer, his stomach tying in knots because he STILL was not keen on ever stepping foot in the Hospital Wing after certain things...but it would be unfair to pass grudges and insecurities onto someone new so...he would see.
Yes.
Also...Professor Dark Lord Myers. Yes. He would...er...need to speak to his Head of House soon too.
Okay. He needed to get his hand OUT of his hair now because he was starting to feel like he was a crup with fleas due to all the ruffling going on. He also considered making some BIG gesture - a loud greeting and welcome to the table and such - but the Sorting was still going on and people were in conversation...so he reckoned it was best he just slide in somewhere along the bench after taking a slight stroll around to see everyone.
The first person he noticed, by proximity mostly, was Daisy and he made a mental note to properly check in with her later. Last term had left him...unsettled when it came to the now third year, what with the cursing and her sleep walking and forgotten memories and such. It was nice to see her back though, AND in such good spirits that she was chatting things up with Kimi, Hattie and a newly sorted first year (Amanda, if he had heard correctly). Not wanting to interrupt TOO much, Derf made a quick stop by the trio. "Hattie, Kimi, Daisy. Reckon you both had good summers, yeah?" he grinned, eyes flickering over to Amanda next. "Welcome to Hufflepuff, Amanda. Name's Derfael, but friends call me Derf," he introduced. "I'll be guiding you to the common room after the feast and stuff. Along with all the other newly sorted Hufflepuffs. Sorta a quick tour of the ground floor also..."
Derf's bright blues shifted a bit and fell upon Diandra WHO, when he heard her name being called to be Sorted and then HEARD and SEEN where she had been placed, well, he couldn't help the grin that spread across his face. A grin that he STILL wore now as he caught her eye. "I knew it," he smiled broadly. Well, he had a HUNCH and was somewhat hopeful but that was almost the same thing. "Welcome to Hufflepuff!" Would it be too much if he hugged her? He sorta had enough sense about how he came across to people now - SORTA - to know when he was being too much. Ish. Okay so his excitement got the best of him and he DID give her a hug right now. But it was brief. "Alfred outta be here soon to welcome you too. He's our house ghost. You mighta seen the Slytherin one coming in." Lingering in the entrance hall being broody as usual. "Oh...um...hi Scarlett," he added afterward, NOT that the seventh year was an afterthought or anything because she WASN'T and Derf owed her a lot in her tutelage of Divination matters. "Reckon you can help me learn some more complicated tarot spreads this term?" He paused to look back at Diandra. "Scarlett is wicked good at the subject." In case his fellow fourth year needed to know.
Just then Derf heard the Sorting Hat shout HUFFLEPUFF for another first year and the blonde's attention shot right in that direction. Oh fudge flies. Derf hadn't entirely caught the name...though he was preeeeeeetty sure he had heard Toussaint and then his stomach instantly knotted because, well, he had kinda sorta been avoiding Katherine ever since the polyjuice incident and, er, well...he still had the paper lips she had given him to 'give back' his first kiss. A first kiss that had now OFFICIALLY been had...and now rather than looking anxiously at the Slytherin table (for several reasons) he was glancing over at the Gryffindor one for Abey. But Simon's presence drew him out of that spiral of confusion. "Si----MORD!" Derf greeted with a wave. AL. He had said Al - which was clearly short for something. "Indeed, welcome to Hufflepuff," he grinned at the first year. Though, said first year did not look...pleased to be here? There was a lack of that first year twinkle in his eyes at least. "Chocolate frog?" he offered.
If chocolate could help with dementor drainage it could do anything, you know?
"Hi Miranda," he smiled to the sixth year. "Er...Randa..." No, that felt..incredibly weird to him considering he did not know her all that well. "Alright if I, um, stick to Miranda?" Gendry caught his attention next, though Derf DID ultimately end up sitting across from Diandra and Scarlett, and he waved to the third year. "Good summer?" he asked lamely. He really needed to work on his ice breakers and topics of conversation. Summer questioning had been pretty exhausted on the train ride here.

Her stomach let out another giant growl and she blushed. "I can be patient, but I'm not sure I can keep my stomach from protesting during the speech." Quote:

| Hello everyone, but mostly ummm Derf.... Puff by day, snake by night | Mj's bestie | Always UP to Something... So Diandra made it into Hufflepuff, she had seen that and her eyes were still on the girl to see if she should fully be added to the group or not. She would have to speak to the others about that, but that wasn't why she was here. She was going to grace only some with her presence and right now there was one she was fully watching. "Hello everyone, happy start of term." She wiggled her fingers at everyone and pushed her hair behind her shoulder. She knew it looked amazing and her green sparkling lipstick was on point at the moment. "Oh Derf, can I talk to you for a second." Obviously she was going to either way and she waved off whoever was sitting next to him so she could squeeze in but Zita didn't just sit on the bench beside him no, she wanted to face him so she propped her self up on the table and faced him. Though her focus did go elsewhere for a second, "Hey Simon, looking good." He was such an odd one, but nice and she did think he was an interesting one to keep around.
Anyway, her focus went back to Derf, though she talked normally knowing some would hear, but good, people needed to know their place. "So Derf.." She touched his robes a bit just on his arm and shoulder, "I had so much fun this summer and you coming over and teaching me things was great and I don't think I have properly thanked you." She smiled and leaned closer kissing his lips, the kiss that she wanted to happen at the pool party, but James had gotten that kiss.

The best bit about the feast was the food, and to be honest that was really what she was here for. Unfortunately there was no food yet, which meant that she totally needed to talk to other people at the moment. That wasn't too bad though, since she was pretty happy talking to people. "It was really good" She murmured with a smile as she looked at Daisy. She had had the best summer ever, and she was just kind of sad to be back here. But it was okay. She loved Hogwarts too, it was just as good as at home, if not a bit better. If only Leander was here, then that would be amazing. "hey Randa" The girl smiled, as her fellow sixth year sat down. She really had not seen her friends much over the summer. She'd mostly spent it with her boyfriend though. " Summer was good" it was great, but she didn't want to keep banging on about it. She didn't want people to think she just wanted to boast about her summer. That was not the truth. But she didn't want people thinking back about her.
She was just about to reply to the new girl, and to Derf, when suddenly someone was kissing him. Oh. A random girl. She didn't really know who it was, but kissing was suddenly happening. Hmm. "Not the best place in the world guys" She mused, shaking her head. And surely kissing was meant to be in private too. So. She hoped they would stop. "And also. Interrupting conversations is rude" Since that girl had done that too. How rudee.

| Baguette | there is no D in my name | TRAITORclaw | Queenie of Narnia Regina had wanted to find her friends during the train ride, but the crowd of students all around had made it more difficult than she remembered to navigate through, so she ended up sitting with her twin sister Naia for the whole trip. Which was fine really - there would be plenty of time to finally catch up with her friends. After spending the last half of the previous term stuck at home with a really severe case of Spattergroit, she was thrilled just to be here around people besides her family.
And now it was the feast time, so while Naia went off to sit with her friends, Regina looked around for some of her own.
At first, it was hard to zero in on any familiar faces. There were so many crowded together and moving around - and was it just her imagination or had a lot of these people grown quite a bit within the last several months? But finally, she spotted Derfael - with a badge? Oh, neat! So he was prefect now. That was pretty cool.
She was going to go congratulate him, but then a Slytherin girl (Zita) suddenly swooped in - and kissed him?? Er...um, okay then. Maybe she'd...talk to him later then?
Looking around quickly to distract herself from that, she spotted another friend she wanted to see. "Hey, Simon." She smiled, taking the seat across from him. "What happened to your glasses?" He looked so different without them. Not in a bad way though. "Welcome to Hogwarts and Hufflepuff, by the way," she added, smiling at the new somewhat sad looking? little first year (Alessandro) who'd been sorted. "I hope you like it here." It was pretty chaotic at times, but Regina certainly liked it here at least. She'd missed it a whole lot, in fact.

Arriving at the Hufflepuff table she just happened to arrive right when a blond girl with weird lips (uh... was it a disease or something? Is THAT what dragon pox looked like? They were green and kinda shiny and scaly) suddenly kissed Derfael.
Several thoughts went through Bel's head at once:
Who was the blonde girl?
Did D even WANT to be kissed?
WAS SHE CONTAGIOUS?
Wide-eyed, Bel stopped in her tracks, only a few feet away. Should she get the healer to stand by just in case?

"Congrats, Al. Welcome to Hufflepuff." This eager expression on Simon's face would last about of the feast. He knew as soon as he would get into his Dorm with Derfael and Eno. The poor Hufflepuff would have to deal once again with that Clump of Molten Clothes on the Ground that Simon keeps forgetting the Name Derfael gave to it. Until he heard a familiar voice. Alessandro had spent the better part of the train ride with Simon. And, honestly, he vaguely remembered him mentioning he was in Hufflepuff but it was not the first thing that jumped out in his memory. Oh no. Simon liked his cousin Chloe. Al was not likely to forget such an juicy piece of intel. Leecey would be thrilled to hear all about it in his next letter to her.
If she ever spoke to him again after being sorted into Hufflepuff, that is.
He was able to conjure up a half-hearted smile, “Hello, Simon. And thanks. My mother was a Hufflepuff.” That was the line he had been repeating in his head over and over since being sentenced to yellow for the next seven years. It softened the blow somewhat. Quote:

"Chocolate frog?" he offered.
If chocolate could help with dementor drainage it could do anything, you know? Then, almost immediately, Al was being dragged into polite conversation with the Hufflepuff prefect. He noted the badge almost immediately. For someone of importance in the school— as Al also intended to be of somewhat importance one day— he begrudgingly found some of his manners. “Thank you.” He didn’t want the chocolate frog. Between losing his appetite and being surrounded by the prospect of a feast full of food, chcoloate now felt silly. But he did not want to be rude. Especially to a prefect. “I’m Alessandro Toussaint. And you are?”

Our house has had many alumni in the past that have made this house proud and that continues with current students. I'm sure you'll make Hufflepuff proud. Besides, I'm here to help, Night." "Thanks, Daisy. I'm just really nervous. But that's really good advice." Quote:
As Emmalyn waited for the speech, she overheard Daisy talking to another girl. Another first year girl. She couldn't help herself, she had to butt into their conversation and meet the the Hufflepuff. "Excuse me, are you a first year too?" She waved her hand a bit to get their attention. "I'm Emmalyn, first year Hufflepuff." Her face was bright with hope and excitement.
Night then turned to the other first year girl who had joined their conversation. "Um, yeah, hi. I'm a first year. I'm Night. Well, Amanda really, but all my friends back in Chicago call me Night."
She thought about the reasons she had to leave America and gave a shudder. Her witch neighbor, Diane, had been the one to tell her all about Ilvermorny. But a few cats had been found dead in the neighborhood, and the following day a mother and baby died in childbirth. Diane's family was found out and imprisoned, even though Night's family had testified in their favor. Diane's last words to Night was that she had to flee, as things were getting bad for wizards in the United States. At that point, Night had already gotten her Ilvermorny letter, and her parents trusted Diane's family for everything about this new world. Diane would have graduated Ilvermorny this year and would have been a great mentor to Night. Diane had previously told Night about the other wizard schools, and her parents were favorable to England. So, she was at Hogwarts.

Simon's ears perked up and he looked in the direction of the voice that had said 'Mord' Only one person called him Mord. Even if he had tried to get it to be 'The Rock' some time ago. That was a terribly failed venture. "Derf!" Simon had some major congratulating to do for his Mate. He noticed the spiffy new Prefects Badge adorned on his robes. He would refrain from saying how ironic it was that the boy who fought authority is now his House's Prefect. What was important was Derfael was Prefect and that was pretty awesome in itself. "Congra...." oH...Uh so this is REALLY REALLY Awkward.
Zita...uh...She complemented him on his looks then just snogged Derfael...right...on..the..lips!? Kinda um...okay. So He supposed if that was happening Simon could go about some other things.
Thanks for snogging right in front of his face. Quote:

"Hi Reggie." He smiled at her "Yeah. I uh..I got contacts finally. They're a real pain still to get in and out." he reached into his man-purse and pulled out a spiffy new pair of glasses. I'm still probably going to wear my glasses sometimes because of that." He put them to his face to show himself off with the glasses over his nose too. "Cool too right?" Quote:

Who had thought it was easy to spill your guts to a First Year on a Train the second you learn they're related to the Girl you like. Simon won't forget that he absolutely did that to Al. He was very grateful that he came into the compartment when he did as well. Mr.Rockefeller always said to hold a conversation for as long as you can to really get to know someone and he felt he did just that. Thought he would not have predicted Al would come into his house. Guess the conversation wasn't long enough. "She was? I bet she's gonna be so excited to hear you got sorted into the same house." he nodded to him "I got sorted into the same house my Adoptive Father was in. He wouldn't stop talking about for half a year." He wanted to make sure that Al fit in. He looked like he needed some major cheering up. |

| BOOMBAYAH! | #PuedoPorquePiensoQuePuedo | Certified Blank and Random Person | Raventastic Did she transfer from another magical school? She nodded at Daisy although the new Hufflepuff thought it was kind of the stupidest question in the world, unless Hogwarts did had accepted some students who went to muggle school before and detected the magical signs of a muggle-born very late, but it sounded just impossible. "I did, yeah. I'm from Mahoutokoro." She replied to that girl.
And there was Derfael, the new friend and the only person in the table whom she recognized... A friend? Yeah, Diandra could call him a friend because he had become so helpful and friendly with her, although part of her thought that it was just because he's a prefect. She smiled at the boy as he welcomed her presence in Hufflepuff table and... Did he just HUG her? Okay, this might be a little bit weird to be heard but he was the first guy who ever hug her... Other than her family, obviously. "Umm... Thanks, Derf." So maybe Derf was genuinely nice, she changed her mind about this blonde guy.
Diandra did notice some other students who had joined them (Simon, Bel, and Regina) and just gave them small smile. Maybe... she would try to talk to any of them? She was about to do it but then suddenly an appearance of Zita caught her attention because that Slytherin girl had just casually landed her green lips on Derf's. Uhhhhh..... Coming from a quiet conservative Asian family makes her felt quiet uncomfortable and ended up covering her face because that's what she usually did when she saw a kissing scene in a movie. Alamak. Now she wondered if casual snogging in public was kind of a common thing here because Diandra thought it rarely happened back in Mahoutokoro.
Also, she did agree with Harriet's statement, but not out loud. Alamak: an Indonesian/Malay slang that can be used to express shock.

Night looked over at Diandra. So she wasn't the only student who could have gone to a different wizard school this year. She walked over to the older girl. "Hey, did I hear you say you're from Mahoutokoro? That's the one in Japan, right?"

She hoped that Daisy would tell her a little about what else was going to happen that night. The sorting was a surprise and she hadn't even see her dorm room.

Night still felt awkward. She pulled out her copy of Hogwarts: A History, volume 2 and looked for some facts that could help her. Apparently, the ceiling was enchanted to look like the sky, and that was how Hogwarts students knew the weather. Right now it was clear and starry. She just wanted food, and even more than that, for lessons to start. She wasn't perfect academically, but she was always eager to learn. And all of this would be completely new, so that was exciting.
Looking around, she saw that she was the only student with a backpack. Everyone else had shoulder bags. She hadn't had time to research England's fashions as compared to America's, but she had read that there would be a way to transfigure any object. She'd just have to ask the transfiguration professor. "What are the best classes?" she asked nobody in particular. "And what are the hardest? She wanted to learn everything.
