The afternoon of February 12th would require the students to be very active, which was probably a good thing considering the cold that still lingered in the middle of February. Two days before the Valentine’s decorations in the castle was put up, the Flying Instructor was down at the Pitch awaiting the arriving students.
He really hoped the comfortable clothing the students wore were also warm enough to be up in the air for little over an hour. Fortunately, he had activities that would keep the kids warm; if they remembered to bring spoons of course. Haraldur was, as always, casually leaning on his broom, hovering next to a trunk of supplies including an open box of eggs.
Were they making an omelette? Well, maybe.

Oops? So the dungbombs had caught the pop up calling her out? Ah well, better luck next time. And hey, the Hard-Hitting Hippogriffs still winded up in the lead, which was quite an achievement. But they were out of time and sadly, Skylar flew down toward the Professor who had made himself comfortable in his usual lying down position on his broom.
Something the sixth year took as cue that she didn't have to quite land yet either. So instead, she remained hovering close by in the air, poised and ready to keep flying, but also alert and listening to his wrap-up question. Yea, Kye pretty much said what she was thinking about balancing and concentration, but that seemed obvious, since Baldvinsson had suggested that as something to think about. So there must be some other reason for the activity for the advantages of a lesson on rounders. "Testing our agility, with both flying with an egg, but also hitting the ball with the rounders and catching it. And learning to trust your teammates, as well." The latter of which applied to the rounders game, not so much to the pre-game exercise.

Spoon in her hand…. Well now it was going into her mouth handle first. So this was a game they did at Durmstrang? It didn’t seem very much like a durmstrang thing to do. If that makes sense. WHAT? STAND ON HER BROOM??? Dfhdkjsfhakjdhiwunj. Yep she was going to die today. She just knew it. The fourth year stuck the spoon in her mouth. Mostly to keep from freaking out over Then she grabbed one of the eggs, she pocketed two extra ones just in case she dropped the first one or two.
Mounting her broom with the egg being balanced on the spoon. Juniper took off toward the other end of the pitch. She got about half way there when the egg fell off of the spoon. It fell with a SPLAT! Or so she imagined that it did.
She placed one of the extra eggs on spoon and kept flying. She may or may not have waited until she was heading back to attempt standing on her broom. She was still convinced that she was going to die. CAREFULLY. She moved one of her feet up to the handle of the broom. Then the other.
As soon as she had both feet on the broom handle, there went the egg. Byebye egg. And then there was one egg left. Though she was moving slower than a snail while standing and balancing herself and the egg on her broom. It was actually a lot harder than it looked. Really. It was hard to tell just how long she would have being able to balance the last egg no sooner than she placed the last egg on the spoon she sneezed.
At least she managed to stay standing on her broom kind of. but again it was bye bye eggy.
The Hard-hitting Hippogriffs yes she wanted to be on that team. That was a awesome team name. She headed to go line up but wait how far was it that two of the best beaters (herself and Skylar were on the same team) as much as it would have been fun to be on the same team as the older girls. So she changed her mind and grabbed a bat and flew out and joined the rest of Flaming Dungbombs.
As they started getting the game started she wasn’t really paying attention to who was batting she was just paying attention to where the ball was going. One came into her direction and she hit the ball hard towar to where Professor Baldvinsson
was. That was easy, since she started playing as a beater she had gotten really good at hit the bludger in the direction she was aiming for. AND SHE HAD NOT DROPPED THE BAT SINCE TRYOUTS. Which for her that was an achievement. She had never played baseball but she had seen it before. That was what she had seen them do. That was right yes? Or at least that was what they did in baseball.
Awww that was all they were going to get to do today. She didn’t even get to bat. Raising her hand to answer the question, ”To get a better feel of balancing and multitasking.” Because not only were they having to keep their balance on the broom but a balance with the spoon and the egg.

What a fun game that was! She thought as she headed back towards the professor. Sure, they had lost, but next time the Flaming Dungbombs would be up at bat and could take the lead.
"Great game Hard Hitting Hippogriffs!" She congratulated the other team, as any good loser should, then focused back on her own team "Great job to you all too. We held them to only a two point lead." Her bright smile showed the pride she had for her thrown together group. They had done very well considering none of them had ever played together before.
Then the professor asked another question. She hand't really been thinking about the why behind the lessons activities. After pondering for a bit she answered "Sir, I think today's lesson had more to do with trusting our own abilities. We all have it in us to be great flyers and by playing the games, it helped us get out of our heads and just do it." At least she felt that way. Once they were going, she stopped worrying about how well she was doing on the broom and just focused on playing the games and working together with her team. She was sure it would help her in the upcoming quidditch match.
Wrap things up sounded like music to Daehyun's ears, though he felt nervous once again when professor Baldvinsson mentioned that they'd be playing again next lesson. Couldn't he just write an essay on the importance of the game? Even though it was awfully confusing to him, he'd find one thing or another in books to help him get through it. But one thing he could not learn from books was how to fly.
Well, how to fly safely. Because he was an expert on flying upside down and into trees.
As for why he'd chosen for them to play rounders, and the activity with the eggs... "Multitasking, and it helps us be aware of everything around us while fully focused on every detail." If that made any sense at all. He supposed he could use this to work on his concentration issues... but definitely not with eggs. He'd waste too many, and he'd rather make an omelet out of them.

Haraldur nodded as Ky gave her answer. "Balance and concentration are both important skills to master." He agreed. Loss of concentration on a broomstick was never a good idea. Loss of balance was definitely not.

Haraldur turned his attention to the Slytherin Captain and gave her a little finger gun because he obviously liked her answer. "In addition to balance, concentration and agility, trusting your teammates is necessary to come out of a game on the winning side."

Haraldur listened to one of his Ravenclaw Beaters. "Very good, mastering multitasking is useful for many sports." He agreed. "Not to mention in Quidditch." Am I riiiiight?

The fact that Emmalyn congratulated the winning team as well as boosted her own did not go unnoticed. It was the sportmanship the flying instructor always told them to show. Then the young Hufflepuff answered his question and she impressed him again. "Very insightful, Miss Walsh." He said, hovering slightly in her direction. "Trusting each other is important but you also need to trust yourself and your own abilities. Very good."

"Very true, Mr. Yoon." Haraldur said, shifting his attention from Emmalyn to Daehyun. "It's important to be able to focus on the details but at the same time be aware of your surroundings."
"You're all right." Haraldur began once everyone had given their answers. "The balancing exercise and the game of rounders tested your multitasking skills, balance, agility and teamwork. All important for fully mastering your flying."
He uncrossed and crossed his ankles, hovering front and back in front of the group. "In addition to all your answers, not only did I want our Quidditch Beaters to enjoy the class, I wanted you to work together no matter which House you belong to." He waited for a second before shrugging. S M U G. "And you did. You all worked together, showed great sportmanship and boosted each other. It's what I want from you on the Pitch," He glanced at the non-Quidditch players, "as well as off the Pitch."
He cleared his throat. "I want you all to think and discuss the relevance of rounders in the evolution of other games and sports. Think about the similarities and differences and what influence the game has. I'll put the homework on the noticeboard after class."
Right now, he had eggs crushed eggs to clean up and dinner in the Great Hall to get to. "If you wish to stay after class, then you're always welcome to." The Pitch was there for them to use after all. "Otherwise, you're free to go."
ooc: That's all people! I'll keep this thread open for another 12 hours.
