The afternoon of February 12th would require the students to be very active, which was probably a good thing considering the cold that still lingered in the middle of February. Two days before the Valentine’s decorations in the castle was put up, the Flying Instructor was down at the Pitch awaiting the arriving students.
He really hoped the comfortable clothing the students wore were also warm enough to be up in the air for little over an hour. Fortunately, he had activities that would keep the kids warm; if they remembered to bring spoons of course. Haraldur was, as always, casually leaning on his broom, hovering next to a trunk of supplies including an open box of eggs.
Were they making an omelette? Well, maybe.
ooc: AAAAAAAALOHA! Welcome to flying lesson number 2. I am EXCITED.
Class will begin in approximately 24 hours.
We’ll start tomorrow Friday the 23rd at 6 pm + GMT 1 CET Class has started!.
Please remember to browse through the flying rules before posting if you haven't already. <3

It was a wobbly start off the ground when the Ravenclaw pushed off and it had everything to do with her trying to balance the egg as she did. This kinda reminded her of those lessons women used to endure in that one novel she read, the whole balancing books on their head thing. Admittedly, Jessa had never thought something like that could be too hard but now balancing an egg atop a spoon in her mouth....she almost wished the man HAD brought books.
She didn't move at first, wanting to make sure she was fully balanced but the moment she moved forward, the egg seemed to get a tip off from a secret source because that thing flew off her spoon faster than she could properly get any acceleration in.
Right.
Attempt number one, fail.
The Prefect reached into her pocket for one of her other eggs and placed it on the spoon. This time, she barely moved an inch. So far so good. Slooooooooowly she continued inching forward, glad her broom wasn't sentient and couldn't grow impatient with her. It was obvious that at least for her, going at a normal pace was not an option.
So there she went, at a snail's pace that almost gave the impression she wasn't moving at all. It would be a miracle if she got even half way down the pitch before Professor Baldvinsson called the class to order again.
Bright side, she wouldn't be too far away from him when it was time to return--y'know, unless she DID manage to gain some distance first, in which case she was almost sure she'd have felt a little cheated having worked to get so far only to have to turn it in.
Still, slooooooowly she went. No rush here. She had an egg to protect and no real interest in barrelling down the pitch anyway.

Wait, what? Spoons in their mouths?!
Daehyun supposed he would cross that bridge... when the time came. He supposed it would be okay, though, since he'd have both hands to hold onto the broom for dear life. But as professor Baldvinsson kept speaking, he actually choked on his own saliva, followed by a coughing fit when the man had told them to stand up on the broom. Sense of balance?! What sense of balance? Such a thing didn't exist in Daehyun's vocabulary. He was one to trip on smooth surfaces while walking at a normal pace, and professor Baldvinsson wanted him to stand up on a broom?!
He was going to try the first thing. He was trying, alright. But there was no way he was standing up. No. Way.
Taking the spoon out of his bag, he grabbed an egg and, tucking both items in the pockets of his robe, he eyed the broom as if it were his worst enemy - and, well, it was. He mounted it and softly pushed off the ground until he was hovering a bit over a meter in the air. Sighing, he put the spoon in his mouth, and added the egg on the spoon.
Now, he needed to start moving.
... and the egg fell as soon as he took off.
"Professor? Could I use a-a rock, or something else?" he asked, flustered. "I would break so many eggs, and it's a terrible waste." There were so many dishes he could make out of those eggs. Why waste them on uncoordinated people like Daehyun?
"I have full faith in you, Mr. Yoon." Haraldur said, ignoring his wish to use stones instead. The eggs did have a refilling charm placed on them. Not that he wanted to share this information with the class. He just thought it made them all more careful and caring if they didn't know that. At least, that's what he hoped. "Try again, my boy. You'll get there." Eventually.

What ever for?! Uhmmm shouldn't this be more for first years who were bound to fall off their brooms? Which, they should be way past that point by now right?? At least it was a clean spoon... not the one she had eaten off of. She inspected her spoon's handle, maybe she shouldn't have put it in her pocket... She cleaned it, just in case, and went to pick out an egg. She would take more, buuuuuut it wasn't boiled?! Eesh. Once that egg was done, it was DONE. What a mess this was going to turn into! She'd probably be contributing quite a bit to that. She was swift and agile on her broom, but with an egg in mouth... Disaster awaits.
Kye went to the billion eggs, grabbed one and mounted her Moonbrusher. Stand up on her broom?!? She had never done that... Oh Professor Baldvinsson, you knew how to make an interesting lesson! She wouldn't be standing up right away, but she was eager to get there. She put the egg on the spoon because Professor Crazy Head said to , andddddddddd there.
SPLAT.
Oh.
Nope.
She had bumped the spoon.
Sorry Professor...
Not that this hadn't been expected, of course, but probably not by her. Hehe... whoops. Kye took out her wand and cleaned up her mess. She picked up another egg, placed it a bit more carefully. There! She mounted her broom and carefully lifted off the ground. Oh how she wanted to just speed off and do laps! She wanted to race everyone! But she had already dropped one egg, and she was concentrating on her balance now... Ohhhh that's what Professor B had been saying, huh?
The flying instructor wasn't prepared for the students to clean up the mess afterwards, but Kye did. He took note of her concentrated expression and nodded at her. "Keep going, Miss Atwater. Don't lose focus." Unless, she might have lost focus just by listening to him. So he moved on to a Hufflepuff who had a question for him.

She reached a height a good ways above a lot of the other students. She wanted to fly fast and didn’t need the added worry of running into anyone else. Of all the things she was afraid of, heights was not one of them and she was going to use that to her advantage. She placed the spoon in her mouth, pulled an egg out of her pocket and balanced it on the spoon. Easy peasy.
“Here we go!” She mumbled through the handle of the spoon just before she shot off across the pitch like she was being chased by a dragon. The air whooshed around her and the egg bobbled slightly, but remained upon its’ perch on the spoon. Nothing to it. Nope, no problems were had. The one hundred and eighty degree turn at the end of the pitch only needed her to tilt her head, ever so slightly, to the side to keep the egg firmly in place. She quickly glanced down to make sure the egg made the turn before bolting back to the starting point.
Wondering if they could go even higher, since she could not recall a high limit being placed, she flew down just low enough for the professor to hear. “Sir, is there a height limit? I’d like to go higher, if that’s okay with you.”

Thankfully her quick hands were able to grab the broom handle and she was able to swing her leg up and over to remount the broom.
Try two was better. She got the broom moving forward first, then attempted to stand. Once standing, she realized it was a lot like surfing. All she needed to do was balance and let the broom do the work. She made a quick trip down the pitch and back.
Then it was time to give it a go with the egg on the spoon. She grabbed the spoon and egg out of her pocket and placed them in her mouth. She leaned forward just enough to get the broom going at a good clip, then used her body to steer the broom to the end of the pitch, turn around, and fly back to the starting point. Not one dropped egg. Her practice run would have been filled with dropped eggs, so she was thankful she took the time.
”There’s no height limit, Miss Walsh.” Haraldur replied, keeping an eye out on some of the first years. ”If you want to fly higher then be my guest.” It wasn’t like they didn’t usually during Quidditch anyways. She’d be fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine. "Keep focusing on the balance."
He circled back to her a few minutes later and saw her carefully balancing the egg. Haraldur nodded. "Well done, Miss Walsh!"

She made her way over to get an egg from the crate. Once she got two eggs in her hands because come on lets face it, she was bound to drop one she got into her position besider her broom.
Zae commanded with her broom, "UP!" and the broom zoomed up towards her outstretched out. Now time for the egg task. She put a leg over her broom and put the end of the spoon and clamped into her mouth, once she thought it was straight and stable she gingerly placed the egg on the spoon. Sooo far soo good. This didn't seem soo bad. Should she try flying? Maybeeee....
I mean the end of the field didn't seem so far. Alright lets do it. She kicked off and once she did, the egg wobbled and fell...
SPLATTTT!!!
Welps good thing she had another egg. Smart move on her part.
Man down! Or… Egg down. Haraldur glanced over at Zarina and watched her quickly start over with a new egg. Practice, practice, practice! "Move with the broom, Miss Carraro. Try again." She'd get there.

Would she be able to do this... HECK YES! She had all the confidence in the universe that she could accomplish this. Could she stand up on her broom at the same time... well possible. That was something she wasn't the very best at yet but you could bet her all the sugar quills in the universe that she would be giving it a try today!
Grabbing herself an egg or two... just in case she tucked them neatly into the pocket of her hoodie. Finding a clear spot she mounted her broom, kicked off and hovered a few feet off the ground, blue eyes scanning the area around her first. If her path from here to the other side of the pitch was clear she would have much better luck.... only... it seemed like her fellow Lion was struggling. Daniel just needed some encouragement is all.
With a bright smile the ginger flew over to line her broom up beside Daniel's leaving about an arms length or so between them. "Hey, Daniel. Would you like some help? We can fly side by side and encourage one another?" Friends looked out for one another and being a housemate made him a friend instantly whether or not he knew it.

... he would probably develop acrophobia by the time he graduated.
In a flash of red, he saw his fellow housemate approach him, and smiled back at her. "Rylee, hi!" She wanted them to fly together? As much as he risked embarrassing himself - and it was even worse around people he actually knew - he couldn't refuse the offer. He'd rather have someone nice to talk to, and maybe forget about the fear of being on a broom. Nodding, he said, "I'd like that, thank you." As for flying side by side... "You sure I won't slow you down?" Due to, you know, his lack of balance and inability to do anything remotely sportive.

Rylee shook her head a little bit pulling the spoon from her pocket as she sat herself up a bit straighter. "Don't worry about slowing me down, we should probably be starting off slowly anyhow... at least until we get the hang of it."
Balancing herself on her broom she looked over at Daniel. "First things first. Get yourself comfortable. Remember your broom is your friend. Trust your broom like you trust yourself, okay?" Trust and focus was key. They weren't high off the ground so a fall while it might be embarrassing wouldn't hurt them. "When you feel that you're ready place the spoon in your mouth and if you're still balanced put the egg on the spoon. Then we can make sure we have a good grip on our spoon with out mouth and teeth and our hands positioned on out broom. Focus on anything else but what you're doing... like something you really really enjoy and I'll be flying right there beside you."
It might have sounded easy but chances were it wasn't going to be. She was a good flier and her confidence was through the skies when it came to flying but this was also balance and focus, to keys to dancing. She could do this.
Giving Daniel a warm smile she proceeded to place the end of the spoon in her mouth using her teeth to hold it in place showing him what she was doing. Then she pulled one of the eggs from the pocket of her hoodie and set it on the spoon returning her hands to the handle of her broom. So far so good... but she wasn't moving yet. She wouldn't move until her friend was ready too.

"Okay, here we go." With an oh-Merlin-have-mercy-on-my-soul sigh, he put the spoon in his mouth, and searched his pockets for the spare egg he'd brought up in the air, while his other hand was locked in a death grip around the broom, holding on for dear life. Focusing on his task, he placed the egg on the spoon, and his eyes met Rylee's, who was waiting for him. He would've smiled, but he would drop the spoon. He would've showed her a thumbs up, but there was no way he was moving to risk dropping the egg. Nodding was out of the question too. So he hoped she understood he was good to go.

Mhmm. Yes. So far so good. She could see his balance was good as was how he held the spoon in his mouth. All things appeared nice minus that death grip he hand on the handle of his broom which made her nearly giggle. Lifting a hand off her broom she moved the spoon from her lips just a little to give him a tad more advice first, "Ease up your grip. Relax your hands. Firm hold but relaxed. You'll be okay, don't worry." With a smile she bit back down on the spoons handle and carefully returned her hand to her broom.
They were ready to go. Angling her broom upwards ever so slightly she flew forward slowly. Very slowly, focusing on not only not dropping the egg from the spoon but also not leaving her friend behind. Her goal was to stay within an arms length to his side and no more than a few inches ahead but if she could stay closer that would be great. Now where was Daniel? She would look but that would most definitely cause her to drop the egg.
Haraldur flew in a wide circle around the group, attention focused on the two young Lions for a few minutes. He saw how the excited and fearless Rylee offered to help Daehyun so the flying instructor kept his distance. Trial and error was usually how he preferred to teach flying and with a supportive friend, the boy would do just fine.

Carefully, she placed the egg on the spoon as she mounted her broomstick. Daisy silently prayed the egg wouldn't fall off as she gently ascended into the air and flew to the end of the pitch. There were a few nerve-racking moments as the egg wiggled slightly due to the wind's velocity but luckily when Daisy returned, the egg was fine.
Daisy decided to take a few moments to collect herself before attempting the second part of the activity. Firstly, she decided to grab another egg so that she had two eggs with her, just in case. She was still slightly nervous but she focused on two facts. The first being that she was really good at standing on her broomstick whilst in the air and the second being was that she managed to complete the first part of this activity.
Daisy gently placed the spoon's handle in her mouth, followed by one egg on the spoon as she ascended like before. She stayed in that position for a minute until she felt comfortable enough to stand on her broomstick. Daisy gently stood up on her broomstick as the wind seemed to pick up just a bit. "Oh, please don't." Daisy begged in her mind, not daring to look at the slightly wobbling egg. Much to the young witch's delight, she was moving faster but the egg was staying on the spoon. She made the return trip and gently got off her broom with a relieved smile on her features.
Haraldur waited until the young Hufflepuff had touched back down on the ground before giving her an encouraging smile. ”Well done, Miss Swann. Your balance is one of the most important things in Quidditch.” Which he knew she cared about.

Spoons in their mouths, balancing eggs and if it went well, standing on the broom? Merlin's beard she couldn't even do that without the added responsibility of a fragile object somehow in need of protecting.
She.....would stick to sitting thanks.
Pulling her spoon from her pocket, the Ravenclaw walked over to the box of eggs and helped herself to four. Why four? Because, as with everything that was done for the first time, this would take practice. Quite frankly, she didn't want to have to keep walking back over to the box to get more when the eggs inevitably fell to the floor and broke.
The extra three she carefully slipped into her pocket, but not before casting cushioning charms on them and the inside of the fabric. Nothing worse than making it halfway down the pitch to lose an egg than find, ALL of them were no longer an option.
Jessa clamped down on the spoon with her teeth, trying to keep it as steady as possible while she mounted her broom. Once settled, she fitted the egg on top and gave a glance to the other end of the pitch. Maybe....maybe if she told herself it wasn't that far away.....

Haraldur watched the Ravenclaw Prefect try and try again with the egg. He hadn't said it would be easy. But with enough training, balance could be improved and Jessa seemed to move slowly across the pitch. Speed would come later. Or since he would have to end the activity, maybe in a later class. He didn't comment though when he passed her as he didn't want to split her focus. Still, they would have to move on.
Haraldur was impressed and maybe only a little surprised that more eggs weren’t currently splattered in the snow. The kids had the whole balance-thing down for sure. OR, his miraculous teaching skills started to pay off. He was leaning towards the second option.
”All right! Everyone gather around again!” He would have used the horn around his neck to signal the end of the activity but a loud, booming sound might have thrown a couple of balancing students off. Just might have. ”That’s it, return the eggs and put away the spoons for now.” He circled back on his broom and came to a low hover next to the school brooms and box of eggs.
He waited until the students had settled down before moving on with the lesson. Hopefully they had warmed up a little bit during the exercise. ”We’re going to continue on the topic of games for today’s lesson.” Mainly because the second round of Quidditch matches was coming up and the tension between the teams were starting to build up. Today, they would have to cross those team lines. ”We’re going to play a game of rounders today. For those of you that don’t know, the rules are pretty simple. The field is a square, made up of four bases. One team is on the hitting side, the first player will, using Beater’s bats, hit a leather covered ball and fly one lap around the field. The other team will try to catch the ball and throw it back to me. Once I catch the ball, the player on the hitting team has to stop flying. The goal is for the player go make it all around the field before the ball is returned to me. If they make it, they get 4 points. If they get to the third base they get 3 points, second base 2 points and first base 1 point. If they’re between bases on the field when I receive the ball, they get zero points and has to return to the Beater’s position and fly together with the next person in line.” He swayed to his right and bent down to pick up a leather ball, similar in appearance to a Quaffle but significantly smaller with a diameter of about 5 inches. ”We need to come up with team names for this game. Suggestions for team names? Come on now.”
ooc: OK! I quickly explained the rules of rounders in this post if it would help you to come up with some creative names. I'll include them in the next post before the activity.
You have 24 hours to come up with names for the teams for the main activity! It could literally be anything. Two of your suggestions will be picked using a random generator and then tomorrow we’ll play! :3
We’ll continue on Monday the 26th at approx 7pm GMT +1 CET.
If you want to catch-up on the mini-activity then go right ahead! <3
Upon hearing the professor signal time to stop, Emmalyn dropped down on her boom, forgetting that the egg was still on her spoon, sending it splatting to the ground below. She shrugged her shoulders and was thankful the egg didn't hit another student.
Once on the ground again, she sat her broom down and listened to the instructions. The game sounded a bit like softball, a game that she played back in the states. She could do it. But on teams? She would have to be on a team with kids from other houses. That wasn't the most exciting news. She'd much rather team up with her fellow Hufflepuffs. Plus, she knew what to expect from her housemates. She knew that they would have her back.
"Sir, how about the Flaming Dungbombs?" That sounded like a fun team name. A name that would make the other team want to stay away, maybe even give them a leg up in the competition. She really hoped no one would suggest some name like the Pink Pigmy Puffs or the Nifty Nifflers. Those were far too cute and girly for a real team name.
Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when
Daisy returned her eggs and placed her spoon back in her jacket pocket. She stood next to Emmalyn just avoiding being hit by the raw egg. She listened to the instructions of the Flying professor and when her fellow Hufflepuff suggested a team name, Daisy stifled a giggle. She then raised her hand with a suggestion. "My suggestion is the Hard-hitting Hippogriffs."

Ok so eggs not for eating.... but as a balancing act instead? Ace didnt really have that kind of problem but he did see this as a challenge. Grabbing an egg, he set it on his spoon and took to the air on his broom. "Here we goooo..." he murmured as he set the spoon's handle in his mouth and started to float forward. So far so goo-- oops down goes the egg! And he was just what going at 3 miles an hour? Gah!
He swooped to get another egg and tried to give it another go, this time being really really REALLY slow and careful. And all was well for the first minute.... until Ace looked around and he realized he was only 5 paces away from where he started. Sheesh he couldve just walked that way and he'd still have traveled further down the pitch.
Speed dont do well with eggs on spoons he realized, even when one's balance is spot on.
But now they were gonna try something else. The Curly Top landed with a flourish just as the Groundskeeper started on their next lesson-- baseball with brooms! Ah now this is more his speed.
Were they supposed to name a team? Ace didnt even know what team he was gonna be on "I'd join whichever team wants to bat first."
Yeah thats what crazy is, when its broken you say theres nothing to fix++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++And you pray that everything will be okay, while you're making all the same mistakes

Was his nervousness that obvious? It probably was, since Rylee advised him to loosen up his grip on the broom, which was a good advice, he wasn't going to deny that. He just found it difficult to trust the broom, and maybe that was his only problem that kept him from becoming a better flier, but he had his reasons to have trust issues.
But he was going to give it a try. Trust Rylee and loosen up a tiny bit. He focused on not moving in any way that might cause him to drop the egg, and followed his housemate as they flew forward, slowly, carefully...
SPLAT!!
There it went.
Taking the spoon out of his mouth with a sigh, he listened to professor Baldvinsson, before turning back to Rylee. "What do you think about the Splattered Eggs?" Heh.

Rylee had to be moving forward at a snail’s pace with that spoon in her mouth but so far the egg hadn't fallen. It was a slow-going process but it was working just so she didn't try looking around.
Out the corner of her eye she saw a blur of white and then heard the professor’s voice. Something about stopping now and playing a new game. Raising her hand to take the egg from her spoon she ended up knocking it off the spoon.
Splat.
Welp... alrighty then.
Rylee stared down at her splattered egg and laughed. Casting a look at Daniel she smiled at him. "See and I wasn't even flying," she told him gigging. "Oh! The Splattered Eggs sounds funny for a team name but looking around I think it's true." It was only a name really and didn't suggest that the team would do badly. "I think you should suggest it." Plus she couldn't think of any names herself... least not anything that didn't have to do with Unicorns.

Kye smiled at the professor's encouragement. Appreciative nod, and she continued with her new egg. She hadn't gotten to standing up, but she was doing much better with the balancing than she originally thought she would. As long as he didn't make them do this during Quidditch or something... Could you imagine?! It wasn't long before they were asked to regroup and think of names. Uhh... This wasn't Kye's strong suit. The names that came to mind were those of professional teams, but nothing new. Kye tried to think of one that sounded usable, but ended up settling for listening to the others.

Flaming dungbombs. Sounded like something Peeves would throw at innocent first years. He liked it though. ”Creative, Miss Walsh.” He smiled at her. ”That’s a name people will remember.” For sure.

This was clearly something Hufflepuffs were good at. Using their creativity. ”Wonderful, Miss Swann.” He mused, obviously liking her suggestion. ”Makes you think of Hufflepuff, doesn’t it?” Maybe because of the all the H’s.

”I’m sure you would, Mr. Salander.” Haraldur said, not completely surprised the lesson exercise was up the Prefect’s alley.

Haraldur looked away from Tenacius at the Prefect’s two younger housemates. ”All right, enough chit-chatting unless you want to share it with the rest of the class.” He patted them on the shoulders as he hovered by. He usually didn’t mind the students talking amongst themselves but not when he asked the class a question. Mainly, because his hearing wouldn’t always allow him to single out students who answered the question from those chatting with each other.

Haraldur hovered past Kye up to the front of the group again. They didn’t have to give a suggestion for team names. Plus, he’d already gotten two which they could use. It was time to play!
”All right, everyone.” Haraldur hovered up in front of the group. ”We have two great suggestions for team names we’ll use for today’s game. The Flaming Dungbombs as Miss Walsh suggested and Miss Swann’s idea; the Hard-hitting Hippogriffs. We’ll start with the Hard-hitting Hippogriffs as the batting team. Please divide yourselves into two teams.” If they couldn’t divide equally, he would help out of course. ”Everyone on the Flaming Dungbombs. Please take a bat each. Only one bat is needed for the Hard-hitting Hippogriffs.” Since, they wouldn’t all be batting at the same time.
The flying instructor brought out his wand from inside his robes and waved it in the direction of four cones by the school brooms. They levitated in the air, travelled across the pitch and settled down in the snow forming a large square. The field was made.
”Everyone on the Hard-hitting Hippogriffs, form a line one after the other. Flaming Dungbombs; scatter across the field to catch the ball as quick as possible. Remember; you may not fly with the ball. Only pass it around using the bats. Let’s play!”
ooc: SO, only two names were suggested, we’re going with those two!
It’s time to play!
Text Cut: Rules
The field is a square, made up of four bases. One team is on the batting side, the first player will, using Beater’s bats, hit a leather covered ball and fly one lap around the field. The other team will try to catch the ball and throw it back to Haraldur. Once I post that the ball is caught, the player on the batting team has to stop flying.
The goal is for the player go make it all around the field before the ball is returned to me. If they make it, they get 4 points. If they get to the third base they get 3 points, second base 2 points and first base 1 point. If they’re between bases on the field when I post, they get zero points and has to return to the Beater’s position and fly together with the next person in line.
Batting team (Hard-hitting Hippogriffs for the first 2 days):
Take a Beater’s bat and use it to knock the ball as far as you can.
Fly around the field, try to make it around all 4 bases before the opposite team returns the ball to Haraldur.
Catching team (Flaming Dungbombs for the first 2 days):
Get the ball, use your bats to pass it back to Haraldur as quick as possible. Try to get the ball back before the opposite team have flown around the field.
Please label your post with which team you’re on, the Flaming Dungbombs or the Hard-hitting Hippogriffs -- Try to make a somewhat equal division!
If you're on the batting team; please indicate in your post your points. This is up to you if your character makes it all around the field (4 pts) if they're a talented Beater, or to third (3 pts), 2nd (2 pts) or 1st (1 pt) base. If they're in between bases, please also indicate this with burned or out or something similar.
You have 4 days in total for this activity. I'm thinking 2 days each for each team on the batting/catching side.
The activity will end Friday the 2nd of February at approx 7 pm GMT +1 CET.
Any questions? Reach out to me! <3
I'll post Haraldur catching the ball from the Flaming Dungbombs, and announce when we're switching sides.
- Josefin

Ready for today's lesson? Was she EVER?! Like, honestly, did Baldvinsson even need to ask when it came to flying classes? Also, of course, she brought a spoon. And her beater's bat, which apparently had to go away for the moment. Setting her bat carefully off to the side where she could keep a careful eye on it, she removed her spoon from her robe pocket. Oh, no flinging eggs, which was her initial perception about the activity.
Before mounting her broom, Skylar decided to first see how well she could balance an egg on her spoon with just standing still. Grabbing a few eggs, stashing a few in her pocket and one on her spoon, spoon handle in her mouth, it was easy peasy actually. Now time to get on the broom and try it. Flying? Only problem was that Skylar was used to flying fast; her broom was made for speed. She was made for speed. Which meant the momentum of flying towards the end of the pitch had the egg flying off her spoon pretty much the moment she started flying. Flying back, and splat, egg yolk on the front of her robes. Thanks?
Yea, no, actually the standing on the broom and balancing might be easier. Removing one of the eggs from her robes pocket, she set it carefully on the spoon. Slowly, methodically, she stood up on the broom. Just like surfing, right? Not that she ever surfed before, but as she stood up then the worst thing that could happen happened. She sneezed. And fell back. Fortunately she wasn't that high up and the cushioning charms on the ground braced her fall, but that was .... unexpected. Especially because she had been doing JUST fine with standing on her broom for about five minutes. Or at least it felt like five minutes. But what was even worse? The way she felt was on the side with the other couple eggs in her pocket, which meant crushed eggs. And she knew that they all broke and the sixth year just laid there a moment, petrified of the mess in her pocket. Of the gross, icky yolk that now lined her pocket.
But it seemed they were moving on. Rounders. Was that like ... American Baseball? It sounded like it from the description and she'd never played either, but it sounded interesting, plus, beater's bat, so yea. She wanted to bat first, or well, every time. And as she stood up and considered team names, Slithering Serpents was what came to mind first, because Slytherin, she was too late in speaking up. Because Daisy and Emmalyn had suggested team names that seemed to work well. And as a beater, well, hard-hitting hippogriffs just seemed to work well and suit her, so she was totally joining that team.
"All those on Hard-Hitting Hippogriffs, over here?" Skylar said, as she joined the queue for that lineup.

It was time for team name selection. She waited, fingers crossed, for the announcement. Then he said it. Flaming Dungbombs! Sadly, his second choice was Hard-Hitting Hippogriffs. Not that she didn't love the name, but it meant that Daisy would probably be on that team since she picked the name.
"Woo hoo!" she shouted as she raced to grab a beaters bat, mounted her broom and zipped out on the field. She knew it was going to be amazing and count not wait for the game to start. After taking up her spot, mid-field, Emmalyn positioned herself to best be able to cover her area. There was no way she was going to let a ball get past her.
"Spread out evenly, Flaming Dungbombs and make sure to call it." The last thing they needed was a collision causing one of the players to get hurt, or worse, drop the ball. "If you don't think you can catch it, call out for help."

Daisy did come up with the suggestion for Hard-Hitting Hippogriffs so she was going to be a part of that team. She did feel a bit sad that she was going to be playing against Em's team. She made her way to Skylar. "Hey, Skylar."

"I'M ON THE FLAMING TEAM." For the fire, obvs. Not because of it being dungbombs. Couldn't they have come up with something BETTER to be on fire? WhatEVVVA.
He was GEARING UP to take CHARGE OF THIS TEAM wHEN the dungbomb that suggested their name started telling them all to call IT? What was IT going to do?! IT wasn't going to catch no ball. IT wasn't going to bat the hey out of a ball. IT was stuPID.
BUT FINE.
He grabbed a bat and tutted as he flew out to a GREAT position in the field. The BEST position because Beau Montague was there and YES, IT WAS NICE TO BE HIM.
................ What if he accidentally on purpose hit the ball in the wrong direction to take her off her broom for the LOLS?
Was it really fair to have the Quidditch players on one team? Probably not... So as much as she wanted to join her Captain, she joined the Flaming Dungbombs. She greeted Emmalyn, who seemed to be gearing up to be a future Quidditch Captain, and Beau... hoping that some older kids would join her. She picked up a bat, and decided to take the area by the first base because... it should be someone with a strong arm.
Daehyun had decided very fast which team to join. It was a simple decision, really - Flaming Dungbombs had to grab a bat each, so naturally, he flew hesitantly towards where the Hard-Hitting Hippogriffs were lining up. Nervously, he smiled at the two girls, too shy to say a word, and praying he could just- blend in with the surroundings...
... or something along those lines.
Since they had to form a line, one after the other, he stopped at the end of the line, and hoped that someone would take the lead. He had absolutely no idea what he was supposed to do. He just wanted to disappear from that class - games, or any sports whatsoever, were not his thing. Being a spectator was nice, but being in the games... that was a big nope.

Haraldur waited until the students divided into the two teams. Once a small group had formed a line for the Hard-hitting Hippogriffs, he hovered over to the trunk with the ball they were going to use.
"Everyone ready? First round is up!" He picked up the ball, and threw it in the direction of the Hard-hitting Hippogriffs. They were uppppp.
ooc: OK people on the Hard-hitting Hippogriffs, feel free to start playing as you've received the ball from Haraldur. Hit it and try to fly around the field.
Flaming Dungbombs - react to the post and try to get the ball back to Haraldur asap. <3

Daisy was very nervous since she had little experience with being a Beater. That wasn't going to stop her from helping her team succeed. She concentrated hard as the leather ball headed towards her and she gave the ball an almighty whack and began to fly around the field. Daisy quickly stopped her broom at Third Base.
Eager to see how her friend Daisy did at bat, Emmalyn focused her gaze towards the home base. She watched at the ball flew towards the batter and the beaters bat make contact. It was off flying, and so was Daisy. "Great hit, Daisy!" she yelled, then realized she better get going after the ball before the other team scored.
Emmalyn gripped her beaters bat in one hand and her broom with the other as she zipped off to catch the ball. "I got it! I got it!" she yelled to her teammates. She got into position just in time to reach her left hand out and snag the ball. Her eyes scanned the field to locate the player most directly between her and the professor. "It's headed your way!" She yelled to her teammate as she tossed the ball lightly in the air and use the beaters bat to hit it towards the awaiting Flaming Dungbombs player. "Hurry and hit it to the professor. Don't let them score!"

Batter up!
Tenacius took up the beater's bat as he watched Daisy sent the ball flying and so did she around the bases. Third base, not bad. But now it was his turn. He rolled his neck and cracked his knuckles are he lifted the bat beside him, wiggling slightly in anticipation of the ball being pitched....
And then he saw it, the ball flying in the air towards him. Instinctively Ace set his jaw and started to swing, going low as the ball started to swoop downward....
And a crack! The ball made contact with his bat and was sent back zooming across the pitch in a high arc. Wooohoooo look at that ball clear the field! Is it a home run? Its starting to look it-- but he better start clearing bases like NOW.
He pushed off on his broom and cleared 1st base..... 2nd base...... 3rd base.... wheres the ball? Is it gone? Is he safe? Ace tried to look around to see if the opposing team managed to get his ball, but he couldnt stop now, not when HOME BASE is right therrrrrrrrrrre.....
Yeah thats what crazy is, when its broken you say theres nothing to fix++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++And you pray that everything will be okay, while you're making all the same mistakes

Skylar figured she would let others go first, as she was pretty much proficient at smacking things with a beater's bat. She watched, impressed when Daisy hit a TRIPLE - That was what it was called, right?. The Hufflepuff had a good arm on her and she made a mental note to inform Isa later about that, in case the Hufflepuff captain missed it.
And then the Head Boy took to the 'plate', which actually made Skylar grimace as she considered last year's quodpot game when she also played on the Head Boy's team. Maybe Head Boys were just good luck, because she watched in awe as the ball sailed and Tenacius flew around the bases.
Which meant what? They got two runs, because Daisy was on third? Giving Tenacius an impressive look and a thumbs up, Skylar glanced around.
And now it was her turn, she guessed. Bat comfortably in hand, she watched and waited, and SMACK!
Pop up ......... but it was a hit, which meant, she needed to FLY and hope no one caught it.
Wasting not a second, she flew off and stopped at first base, for fear of continuing because the ball had dropped so close to second. Better safe, right?

Kye watched as Daisy was up to bat. She hit it and Kye went on her way. It wasn't quite heading in her direction, and she didn't want to run over Emmalyn. She watched as the little Puff actually got the ball and Kye decided to take the pass. She glanced over at the professor to make sure she knew where he was, and didn't even try to actually catch the ball. Instead just hitting it as a Beater would, lobbing it over in the professor's direction. "Heads up, Sir!" she called. She did her best to make sure it wasn't hard enough that he may get hurt, because that would surely not go over well for anyone. There were a couple that came to mind that Kye miiight think about doing that to, but Professor Baldvinsson was definitely not one of them! She watched the ball for assurance, but she had a lot of confidence in her ability to get it over there.
The next person to bat was Mr. Head Boy and boy did he seem ready to go... Kye was sure he would hit the ball a lot further out than Daisy had, but she made her way back to the first base anyway, backing it up to the outfield just in case. Sure enough, the Head Boy hit the ball hard. It wasn't going in her direction though. Would one of the others make it over there? She wasn't expected to chase every ball or anything, right? Like, yes she's a Chaser, but this was the time for anyone *looks at the youngens* to prove that they could take over in a couple years for the teams! She watched as Tenacius flew by her, giving the others a chance to go get the ball and throw it back.

Rylee quickly slid into place with one of the teams without giving it much thought. They seemed like they had less people and it was nice to try to keep things even. Flaming Dungbombs it was. Odd name really but that wasn't at all important. Team work and having a good time was.
Grabbing a beaters bat she flew off towards an empty space out in the field. It was time to play. She watched as Daisy hit the ball for the other team and cheered on both Emmalyn and Kye as they went after it. Definitely some nice team work there.
Next up to bat was her own house mate and Head Boy. Rylee grinned. Something told her he was going to send that ball soaring... and he did. Straight out past most of her team. Glancing around she saw no one was going for it... uh-oh. Leaning down slightly on her broom she speed forward in pursuit of the ball just as she would if it were a snitch. There was no time to get behind it and catch it...
Lifting the beaters bat she swung from the side just managing to connect with the ball before it had a chance to get away. She was in no way a beater and she could feel an ache in her shoulder from how hard she had swung the bat and the angle in which she had to move to do it. All that mattered was the ball was heading back towards the professor. Maybe. Chances were it wouldn't make it that far at all. "Someone hit that to the Professor!" she called out to the rest of her team.

The game was progressing at a clip and she was right in the thick of it. Her more central location on the playing field gave her a great advantage on getting the ball. Her eyes widened as the Head Boy took his turn, smashing the ball out towards Rylee. Emmalyn cheered as Rylee was able to hit the ball at the very last moment, sending it her way.
She darted to the right, leaving her catching hand at the ready. The ball bolted towards her at alarming speed, that Rylee had some arm, and she had to stand on her broom to give herself more reach. On her tip toes, she was just able to snag the ball before it zoomed past her. "Merlin, that was a great hit, Rylee!" She whipped her head around to eye the professor, threw the ball in the air and swung her beaters bat as she hopped down to a sitting position on her broom. The ball sailed towards the professor, and she hoped it wasn't too late to stop the Head Boy from scoring.
Before she could completely recover from the last batter, Skylar was up and hitting. It was a pop up fly ball. The ball sailed up up up into the sky with just a slight arc. Trying to anticipate where it may come down, Emmalyn zipped forward, sun blinding her as she looked up. "Rylee! Kye! I think I need some help. I can't see the ball!" She called to her closest teammates, hoping they could see the ball coming down if she was unable to.

Daisy was out first for the Hard-hitting Hippogriffs and Haraldur watched her pick up the Beater's bat to whack the ball across the pitch. Maybe Isa should consider letting Daisy practice as Beater for the Hufflepuff Quidditch team. That was a solid hit! "Good job, Miss Swann!" She managed to get to 3 points before stopping so she wouldn't get burned by the Flaming Dungbombs. Emmalyn and Kye on the opposing team showed great teamwork and got the ball back to Haraldur and thereby securing their first two points of the game. "Nice teamwork on the Flaming Dungbombs." Haraldur mentioned throwing the ball back and forth between his hands as the next player on the Hard-hitting Hippogriffs got ready. "Proves that if you work together you get the job done faster. 3 - 2 in favor of the Hard-hitting Hippogriffs."
Haraldur then threw the ball to Tenacius who hit the ball far before zooming off towards the first base. Rylee was quick to react to that one and used her bat to pass the ball to her teammate Emmalyn who got the ball back to Haraldur. "Homerun!" He called out as the Head Boy just managed to pass the last base before Haraldur caught the ball. This awarded the Hard-hitting Hippogriffs with 4 important points with the score resulting in 7 - 4, before the Slytherin Captain was up.
Skylar swung the bat and made the ball shoot up into the sky. Haraldur squinted his eyes, following the ball for a moment before he glanced over at Skylar who chose to stay put at the first base. Emmalyn called out for help from her teammates but before anyone had the time to react, the ball returned down to the ground and eventually made its way back to Haraldur, giving the Flaming Dungbombs another 2 points.
Just when the game had picked up its pace, Haraldur had to call it off. That was probably his least favorite thing to do, tell the kids to stop playing when the game was at its peak but he couldn't keep them out there all day.
At least, he was pretty sure he couldn't.
"We have to wrap this up, I'm afraid." He announced, putting his hands up in surrender. "I know, I know, next lesson we'll start with the Flaming Dungbombs on the batting side. For now, the score ended 8 - 6 in favor of the Hard-hitting Hippogriffs. Congratulations." He gave the kids a little nod and a look to the students on the other team. "And let's call this a 'let's be continued'."Wink, wink.
Haraldur threw the ball so it landed in the trunk again and called the students to him. He got comfortable on the broom lying down and crossed his ankles. "You've now tried your first game of rounders." Probably. "Can you think of any reason why I chose to do a lesson about rounders? What are the advantages? Think about the activity with balancing the egg, why do you think we did that?"
ooc: There's so many places to post right now around the school with lessons and the job fair so I extended the lesson a little to get some posts in. I really appreciate you stuck around <3
Question: Think of the lesson as a whole with the balancing activity and the rounders game. What is the purpose of the lesson? What do the students get out of it? Is it mainly learning the game and practicing balancing skills? You tell me!
You have 24 hours to answer this one, until 4th of March at 12 pm CET.
Kye was quite disappointed when their turn ended. Noooooooooo!! Ah well, they could still make it up at bat! Hmmm, as for the professor's question, Kye pondered for a bit. "Well, you wanted to help us practice our balance? Our concentration? Uhm..." What else? What else?
