The afternoon of February 12th would require the students to be very active, which was probably a good thing considering the cold that still lingered in the middle of February. Two days before the Valentine’s decorations in the castle was put up, the Flying Instructor was down at the Pitch awaiting the arriving students.
He really hoped the comfortable clothing the students wore were also warm enough to be up in the air for little over an hour. Fortunately, he had activities that would keep the kids warm; if they remembered to bring spoons of course. Haraldur was, as always, casually leaning on his broom, hovering next to a trunk of supplies including an open box of eggs.
Were they making an omelette? Well, maybe.
ooc: AAAAAAAALOHA! Welcome to flying lesson number 2. I am EXCITED.
Class will begin in approximately 24 hours.
We’ll start tomorrow Friday the 23rd at 6 pm + GMT 1 CET Class has started!.
Please remember to browse through the flying rules before posting if you haven't already. <3
Kye LOVED any chance she had to ride her broom. Her Moonbrusher was absolutely beautiful and even though it wasn't NEW new, it was Kye's baby. Let's be honest. Funny, wasn't it? How just a year ago, Kye would have said "Nahhh I don't need my own broom..." HA. EVERYONE NEEDED THEIR OWN BROOM. She was positive that Professor Haraldur would agree. "Good afternoon, Professor!" she greeted happily, practically dancing on to the Pitch. She wondered what he had in store for them today, wondering if they could play a bit of Quidditch one of these days. All practice was good practice.

Time for the BEST CLASS OF THE DAY !!!
Zoryn was caring SO MANY THINGS. One, her personal broom (because she did not use one of those janky school brooms, no thanks). Two, her bat (because Professor Baldvinsson said she could bring it for the lesson. And three, a spoon (because actually... she didn't know why they were bringing spoons).
SHe walked to the pitch wearing a HUGE smile and even before she reached her faaaaaaaavorite flying instructor, the Gryffindor was already waving and calling out to him. "Yoooooooooo Mr. B!!! Can I fly some warm up laps before we officially start??" 'Cause she hated the part where they had to stand around and wait for instructions. She wanted to be in the air, like, yesterday.
Also, were they eating lunch? Is that why they had spoons and eggs?

Emmalyn bounded into class with a giant smile on her face and spoon in hand. Flying was her absolute favorite class and the only one she seemed to come easily to her. She was giddy with excitement over what they might be doing and couldn't wait to get started. "Good afternoon, sir." She greeted as she made her way over to the pile of school issued brooms. "Is it okay if I grab a broom and set it up?" She motioned to her fancy broom servicing kit she had received from class earlier in the year.
She was once again reminded just how much she wanted her own broom. To be able to keep it just to her liking and never worrying about what damage another student might have done to it. That was going to be her number one priority over the summer. She had to find a job and purchase her own broom before the next school year started.

Did she have to be told twice when there was a flying lesson? No. Skylar didn't even need to be told ONCE because her captainy senses were tingling for any chance there could be to fly. Not to mention she could use all the distractions from Valentines stuff and what better excuse than with flying her bluebottle C. Sure she had a boyfriend, but that didn't mean she had to observe the holiday. It brought up feels that she didn't want to engage in, which left her pretending the holiday didn't exist. It wasn't that she didn't want her boyfriend to be her valentine, but she didn't want him to just be her valentine that one day in February. Because it was the 'norm'? No, Skylar Diggory didn't want to do the norms. Besides, there was something else that was more important than Valentines plans anyway, which was the fact that her very bestest friend, Harriet Paton was becoming a legal adult witch.
Bluebottle C in hand, her beater's bat in the other, and a spoon in her pocket, the sixth year headed eagerly to the pitch.
Wait. Eggs.
The slytherin captain suddenly had a very strong inkling about today's lesson and she was definitely grateful for the comfortable clothes. Because if her ideas of today was anything to go by, it was about to become a very messy and smelly lesson.
"Good afternoon, Professor Baldvinsson," she said as she approached.

Tenacius wished he could fly towards the pitch. Because he could almost feel his broom whirring at such a frequency that means its got all these pent up zippidy zip zap speed that needs to be unleashed.
And then there was a spoon. Good ol regular metal spoon sitting quietly and snugly in his winter coat. "Hey there Professor Baldvinsson" he greeted the Flying Instructor cheerfully just as he spotted the eggs. "Any of those boiled Sir? Could used a snack right about now." he grinned as he whipped out that silently snugged spoon out of his pocket, ready to dig in on the good stuff.

Kirk was here, with his broom and all. The Andromeda 2100.. oh and a spoon tucked into one of his coat pockets. He wasn't really sure what they needed the spoon for before arriving. Where they going to be balancing spoons off their nose while flying? Did they have to hold the spoon in their mouth while flying? Most of his questions went out the window at the sight of eggs. Ah..
"Hello Professor Mr. Baldvinsson" Kirk greeted. Now he was really intrigued on today's lesson.
Even though it was cold outside, which Juni didn’t mind. Thanks mostly to big fluffy coats and warming charms. Plus having practice out in this kind of weather, she was used to it by now. With her broom in one hand and a spoon in the other she headed down to the pitch.
She wasn’t oblivious to the looming holiday, all the hearts meant candy in her tummy and honestly that was the best thing about the fourteenth of February. As she headed to where the others were on the pitch the first person the Ravenclaw seen was Zero Spinnet. Yep she walked straight past her without giving her number two a look or a second thought. She still had bigger fish to fry.
”Hello Professor Baldvinsson.” She nodded at him, because it was impossible to give a proper wave to someone with a broom in hand. And someone would look absolutely ridiculous waving spoon around at someone greeting them. That’s when she noticed the eggs…. Mmm were they going to fly around with the spoon in their mouth and balance the eggs on the spoon? ”Hey Skylar. Captain Kirk” Smiling at the two captains and standing not to far away from either of them.

Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when
Daisy was on the pitch with her broomstick. She was dressed in only sneakers, jeans, shirt and a light coat as she knew any Flying related activities had a tendency to warm her right up. In her inner coat pocket was a spoon. "Hello, Professor Baldvinsson. Hey, everyone."
Really, it was a thing that had bothered Daehyun more than the actual flying. No matter how much he'd thought about it, he couldn't find a valid reason for which they'd need spoons for a flying lesson. Unless it involved them being fed, which he wouldn't mind at all. He was all in for a snack. Or a seven-course meal, whichever worked just fine.
"Good afternoon, professor," he said, smiling at the man, before his eyes fell on the box of eggs.

Beau LOVED a good egg sandwich -- it was even better when it was an egg toasted sandwich, but HEY he didn't have a toaster with him and flying class wasn't really about using the magic REALLY. It was ALL about showing off and being the BEST OF THE BEST and casually dropping into conversation that he was on the quidditch team and others were NAWT. SOZ NOT SOZ. "WE HAVIN' EGGS, SIR?!" BecOS that would be so incredible and stuff.
"OR are we like.......throwing eggs at a moving target? Practicing our throwing skills? Passing skills? CHASER SKILLZ?!" YO CAPTAIN ZORYN, WAS SHE TAKING NOTES?!!!

It was time for... A FLYING LESSON!
Rylee very much practically ran the entire way there. That meant all the way from her dorm room down to the pitch out on the grounds (minus the corridors where she took up a fast walk). She was decked out in her most comfortable pair of blue jeans, a t-shirt with a unicorn on it that no one would see thanks to the over-sized tie-dye hoodie she was wearing over it and a pair of her favorite sneakers with the purple laces. Her hair was pulled back into a tight french braid to hopefully keep her long ginger hair from flying all about her face once they were up in the air.
In her left hand was one of her most prized possessions, her broom. In the pocket of her hoodie was the spoon that she had actually remembered to bring. Why they needed a spoon was beyond her but she had brought it along as requested. As for a beaters bat... well she didn't own one of her own just yet but she was working on that for the team. She was currently being trained as a Chaser and a Keeper by Zoryn but that didn't mean she wouldn't keep being trained anywhere else she was needed.
"Hello, Professor!" she called out waving at the man as per usual before taking up a spot right beside some of those in her house flashing them each a wide smile (Zoryn, Ace, Daniel and Beau).

Haraldur’s attention was turned towards his Gryffindor Captain as she approached him and Kye on the pitch. ”Afternoon, Captain!” He said, hovering slightly towards her. ”Go ahead, we still have a few minutes before class starts.” He always let them arrive early to fly some laps before class if they wanted to. The Pitch was there for them to use after all. As long as she touched back down before the lesson started.

It made the old man proud. ”Go right ahead, Miss Walsh.” Being on the Quidditch team, she should be allowed to pick one of the school brooms to use for the rest of the semester. He should have probably asked the kitchen to get them boiled though. ANYWAY. It would be messy. ”They should probably be though. Next time.” If it would be a next time.

Haraldur spotted the young Gryffindor running from the castle, so he decided to wait for her to join before starting the class. ”Miss Prichard, right on time.” Like, literally. ”Welcome to flying class, let’s begin.”
It was time to get the kids in the air before they froze to the ground. He wasn’t having that. ”Let’s start, shall we?” Rhetorical, obviously. He was the boss man. ”Let’s start out with something on the broom at once to get the warmth up.” That, and he also knew that they would complain if they weren’t allowed up on the brooms immediately. Peer pressure. Well, everyone except perhaps Daehyun. But he was going up there.
Practice makes… Almost perfect.
”I hope you brought a spoon with you for today’s lesson. I do have some extra but not enough for all of you.” He nodded at the ones who brought their Beater’s bats. ”Let’s put the bats away for now and bring out your spoons instead. I want to start out this lesson with a little game we played at Durmstrang when I was young.” He took the time here to send a few looks at the students. No comment on his age, thank you VERY much. ”This exercise is both fun and will train your sense of balance. I want you to place the handle of the spoon in your mouth and balance an egg on the spoon. Then, fly to the end of the pitch and get back here.”
”When you feel comfortable enough, I want you to try and stand up on the broom.” Please, no looks here either. TRUST your instructor. TRUST the cushioning charm on the ground.”Try to balance the egg on the spoon and try to balance yourself standing up on the broom. Fly as fast as you can without dropping the egg.”
Egg dropping WOULD happen though. So he’d brought a lot. ”Everyone grab an egg!”
ooc: Let’s kick off with something fun to dooo. Warm up those February BUTTS. *wiggles*
What to do: Grab an egg (or several) and balance it on the spoon with the spoon in your mouth. Fly standing up to the other side of the pitch and then return. let's get messy
You have 2 days to complete this mini-activity.
We’ll continue Sunday 25th at approx 7pm GMT +1 CET.
((I know the job fair is up and running but like you're still here?? ily))
Of course, he knew they would be balancing the eggs on their spoons, he'd figured that much out the second his eyes laid on the eggs-
Wait, what? Spoons in their mouths?!
Daehyun supposed he would cross that bridge... when the time came. He supposed it would be okay, though, since he'd have both hands to hold onto the broom for dear life. But as professor Baldvinsson kept speaking, he actually choked on his own saliva, followed by a coughing fit when the man had told them to stand up on the broom. Sense of balance?! What sense of balance? Such a thing didn't exist in Daehyun's vocabulary. He was one to trip on smooth surfaces while walking at a normal pace, and professor Baldvinsson wanted him to stand up on a broom?!
He was going to try the first thing. He was trying, alright. But there was no way he was standing up. No. Way.
Taking the spoon out of his bag, he grabbed an egg and, tucking both items in the pockets of his robe, he eyed the broom as if it were his worst enemy - and, well, it was. He mounted it and softly pushed off the ground until he was hovering a bit over a meter in the air. Sighing, he put the spoon in his mouth, and added the egg on the spoon.
Now, he needed to start moving.
... and the egg fell as soon as he took off.
"Professor? Could I use a-a rock, or something else?" he asked, flustered. "I would break so many eggs, and it's a terrible waste." There were so many dishes he could make out of those eggs. Why waste them on uncoordinated people like Daehyun?
Err.... yes... the spoon. Where had she... OH. Yes she remembered! She had taken one from the Great Hall this morning, and put it in her wand pocket. Thank goodness for that though, because she would have forgotten at any other point today. HA. She wouldn't be one in shame today! YES time to get on her broom and... wait. Spoon in the mouth?? What ever for?! Uhmmm shouldn't this be more for first years who were bound to fall off their brooms? Which, they should be way past that point by now right?? At least it was a clean spoon... not the one she had eaten off of. She inspected her spoon's handle, maybe she shouldn't have put it in her pocket... She cleaned it, just in case, and went to pick out an egg. She would take more, buuuuuut it wasn't boiled?! Eesh. Once that egg was done, it was DONE. What a mess this was going to turn into! She'd probably be contributing quite a bit to that. She was swift and agile on her broom, but with an egg in mouth... Disaster awaits.
Kye went to the billion eggs, grabbed one and mounted her Moonbrusher. Stand up on her broom?!? She had never done that... Oh Professor Baldvinsson, you knew how to make an interesting lesson! She wouldn't be standing up right away, but she was eager to get there. She put the egg on the spoon because Professor Crazy Head said to , andddddddddd there.
SPLAT.
Oh.
Nope.
She had bumped the spoon.
Sorry Professor...
Not that this hadn't been expected, of course, but probably not by her. Hehe... whoops. Kye took out her wand and cleaned up her mess. She picked up another egg, placed it a bit more carefully. There! She mounted her broom and carefully lifted off the ground. Oh how she wanted to just speed off and do laps! She wanted to race everyone! But she had already dropped one egg, and she was concentrating on her balance now... Ohhhh that's what Professor B had been saying, huh?
After selecting a broom and getting it ready, Emmalyn headed up to grab a few eggs. She decided it was worth pocketing a few extra eggs over needing to land to pick up more if she dropped one. With her spoon in hand and eggs in her front left pocket, Emmalyn quickly shot up in flight.
She reached a height a good ways above a lot of the other students. She wanted to fly fast and didn’t need the added worry of running into anyone else. Of all the things she was afraid of, heights was not one of them and she was going to use that to her advantage. She placed the spoon in her mouth, pulled an egg out of her pocket and balanced it on the spoon. Easy peasy.
“Here we go!” She mumbled through the handle of the spoon just before she shot off across the pitch like she was being chased by a dragon. The air whooshed around her and the egg bobbled slightly, but remained upon its’ perch on the spoon. Nothing to it. Nope, no problems were had. The one hundred and eighty degree turn at the end of the pitch only needed her to tilt her head, ever so slightly, to the side to keep the egg firmly in place. She quickly glanced down to make sure the egg made the turn before bolting back to the starting point.
Wondering if they could go even higher, since she could not recall a high limit being placed, she flew down just low enough for the professor to hear. “Sir, is there a height limit? I’d like to go higher, if that’s okay with you.”
Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite
Well this was...interesting. All the more interesting when the Professor said it was something they did at Durmstrang. Strangely enough...this just didn't seem like the sort of thing that got done at that icebox based on what all she'd ever heard about the place. Spoons in their mouths, balancing eggs and if it went well, standing on the broom? Merlin's beard she couldn't even do that without the added responsibility of a fragile object somehow in need of protecting.
She.....would stick to sitting thanks.
Pulling her spoon from her pocket, the Ravenclaw walked over to the box of eggs and helped herself to four. Why four? Because, as with everything that was done for the first time, this would take practice. Quite frankly, she didn't want to have to keep walking back over to the box to get more when the eggs inevitably fell to the floor and broke.
The extra three she carefully slipped into her pocket, but not before casting cushioning charms on them and the inside of the fabric. Nothing worse than making it halfway down the pitch to lose an egg than find, ALL of them were no longer an option.
Jessa clamped down on the spoon with her teeth, trying to keep it as steady as possible while she mounted her broom. Once settled, she fitted the egg on top and gave a glance to the other end of the pitch. Maybe....maybe if she told herself it wasn't that far away.....

Zarina was on the field with the rest of the students and she raised her eyebrows and thought this guy was a loon. They had to balance an egg with their mouth while flying? Like that was impossible. I mean he better be prepared to see some scrambled eggs on this field or maybe some sunny side up eggs. Zae shrugged and it looked like the Professor was serious. She made her way over to get an egg from the crate. Once she got two eggs in her hands because come on lets face it, she was bound to drop one she got into her position besider her broom.
Zae commanded with her broom, "UP!" and the broom zoomed up towards her outstretched out. Now time for the egg task. She put a leg over her broom and put the end of the spoon and clamped into her mouth, once she thought it was straight and stable she gingerly placed the egg on the spoon. Sooo far soo good. This didn't seem soo bad. Should she try flying? Maybeeee....
I mean the end of the field didn't seem so far. Alright lets do it. She kicked off and once she did, the egg wobbled and fell...
SPLATTTT!!!
Welps good thing she had another egg. Smart move on her part.

They were going to be flying right away! YES!
Rylee wiggled in excitement. She was so ready to get up into the air and go. Only the professor was still talking. They had to put a spoon in their mouths and balance an egg on it while flying? Haha! They was so epic!
Would she be able to do this... HECK YES! She had all the confidence in the universe that she could accomplish this. Could she stand up on her broom at the same time... well possible. That was something she wasn't the very best at yet but you could bet her all the sugar quills in the universe that she would be giving it a try today!
Grabbing herself an egg or two... just in case she tucked them neatly into the pocket of her hoodie. Finding a clear spot she mounted her broom, kicked off and hovered a few feet off the ground, blue eyes scanning the area around her first. If her path from here to the other side of the pitch was clear she would have much better luck.... only... it seemed like her fellow Lion was struggling. Daniel just needed some encouragement is all.
With a bright smile the ginger flew over to line her broom up beside Daniel's leaving about an arms length or so between them. "Hey, Daniel. Would you like some help? We can fly side by side and encourage one another?" Friends looked out for one another and being a housemate made him a friend instantly whether or not he knew it.

We can fly side by side and encourage one another?" Friends looked out for one another and being a housemate made him a friend instantly whether or not he knew it.
Staring down at the splattered mess on the ground, Daehyun sighed, wondering if he'd ever be able to get through the first part of the activity at all - because while he wanted to do his best and join in, there was no way he was attempting to stand up on his broom. Nuh-uh.
... he would probably develop acrophobia by the time he graduated.
In a flash of red, he saw his fellow housemate approach him, and smiled back at her. "Rylee, hi!" She wanted them to fly together? As much as he risked embarrassing himself - and it was even worse around people he actually knew - he couldn't refuse the offer. He'd rather have someone nice to talk to, and maybe forget about the fear of being on a broom. Nodding, he said, "I'd like that, thank you." As for flying side by side... "You sure I won't slow you down?" Due to, you know, his lack of balance and inability to do anything remotely sportive.
It was time to give standing on her broom with the egg a try. She hadn't spent much time trying to stand on her broom, so she figured she better give it a try without the egg first. She gripped the front and leaned forward, lifting first her left foot, then her right, onto the broom. With her knees bent, she slowly let go with her hands and stood up...then promptly fell. Thankfully her quick hands were able to grab the broom handle and she was able to swing her leg up and over to remount the broom.
Try two was better. She got the broom moving forward first, then attempted to stand. Once standing, she realized it was a lot like surfing. All she needed to do was balance and let the broom do the work. She made a quick trip down the pitch and back.
Then it was time to give it a go with the egg on the spoon. She grabbed the spoon and egg out of her pocket and placed them in her mouth. She leaned forward just enough to get the broom going at a good clip, then used her body to steer the broom to the end of the pitch, turn around, and fly back to the starting point. Not one dropped egg. Her practice run would have been filled with dropped eggs, so she was thankful she took the time.
Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when
Daisy remembered how her father told her of the Muggle version of egg and spoon races and the difficulty involved with that. She would be lying if she said she wasn't nervous. Daisy decided to steady her breathing. Crossing her fingers might also help. She went to grab an egg and placed the handle of her spoon between her teeth. Carefully, she placed the egg on the spoon as she mounted her broomstick. Daisy silently prayed the egg wouldn't fall off as she gently ascended into the air and flew to the end of the pitch. There were a few nerve-racking moments as the egg wiggled slightly due to the wind's velocity but luckily when Daisy returned, the egg was fine.
Daisy decided to take a few moments to collect herself before attempting the second part of the activity. Firstly, she decided to grab another egg so that she had two eggs with her, just in case. She was still slightly nervous but she focused on two facts. The first being that she was really good at standing on her broomstick whilst in the air and the second being was that she managed to complete the first part of this activity.
Daisy gently placed the spoon's handle in her mouth, followed by one egg on the spoon as she ascended like before. She stayed in that position for a minute until she felt comfortable enough to stand on her broomstick. Daisy gently stood up on her broomstick as the wind seemed to pick up just a bit. "Oh, please don't." Daisy begged in her mind, not daring to look at the slightly wobbling egg. Much to the young witch's delight, she was moving faster but the egg was staying on the spoon. She made the return trip and gently got off her broom with a relieved smile on her features.

Sure enough the ever present smile on her face grew wider. "Great!" Having someone to fly with was going to be loads of fun. "You're welcome." Rylee shook her head a little bit pulling the spoon from her pocket as she sat herself up a bit straighter. "Don't worry about slowing me down, we should probably be starting off slowly anyhow... at least until we get the hang of it."
Balancing herself on her broom she looked over at Daniel. "First things first. Get yourself comfortable. Remember your broom is your friend. Trust your broom like you trust yourself, okay?" Trust and focus was key. They weren't high off the ground so a fall while it might be embarrassing wouldn't hurt them. "When you feel that you're ready place the spoon in your mouth and if you're still balanced put the egg on the spoon. Then we can make sure we have a good grip on our spoon with out mouth and teeth and our hands positioned on out broom. Focus on anything else but what you're doing... like something you really really enjoy and I'll be flying right there beside you."
It might have sounded easy but chances were it wasn't going to be. She was a good flier and her confidence was through the skies when it came to flying but this was also balance and focus, to keys to dancing. She could do this.
Giving Daniel a warm smile she proceeded to place the end of the spoon in her mouth using her teeth to hold it in place showing him what she was doing. Then she pulled one of the eggs from the pocket of her hoodie and set it on the spoon returning her hands to the handle of her broom. So far so good... but she wasn't moving yet. She wouldn't move until her friend was ready too.

Start slow. Right.
Nodding, he listened to everything Rylee was saying, and clung to her every word, because it was oddly comforting. He had to purse his lips to keep himself from giggling when she said the broom was his friend - he had battle scars to prove it was his enemy, but he focused back on her words.
"Okay, here we go." With an oh-Merlin-have-mercy-on-my-soul sigh, he put the spoon in his mouth, and searched his pockets for the spare egg he'd brought up in the air, while his other hand was locked in a death grip around the broom, holding on for dear life. Focusing on his task, he placed the egg on the spoon, and his eyes met Rylee's, who was waiting for him. He would've smiled, but he would drop the spoon. He would've showed her a thumbs up, but there was no way he was moving to risk dropping the egg. Nodding was out of the question too. So he hoped she understood he was good to go.

Rylee would have told him about her own disasters while flying but she wasn't about to scare him. The whole point here was to have a good time and be relaxed and how would she manage that if she talked about falling off her broom? He appeared to be listening to her as she had spoke and that's what counted.
Mhmm. Yes. So far so good. She could see his balance was good as was how he held the spoon in his mouth. All things appeared nice minus that death grip he hand on the handle of his broom which made her nearly giggle. Lifting a hand off her broom she moved the spoon from her lips just a little to give him a tad more advice first, "Ease up your grip. Relax your hands. Firm hold but relaxed. You'll be okay, don't worry." With a smile she bit back down on the spoons handle and carefully returned her hand to her broom.
They were ready to go. Angling her broom upwards ever so slightly she flew forward slowly. Very slowly, focusing on not only not dropping the egg from the spoon but also not leaving her friend behind. Her goal was to stay within an arms length to his side and no more than a few inches ahead but if she could stay closer that would be great. Now where was Daniel? She would look but that would most definitely cause her to drop the egg.
