To get to Defence Against the Dark Arts, History of Magic, or Muggle Studies, one will have to make use of the first floor corridor. Getting here is usually relatively easy if you're coming from one of the lower levels of the castle as you need only deal with the moving staircases for just a few minutes. Rugs with intricate patterns have been placed on the floor to soften your footsteps so that any learning going on inside the classrooms isn't disturbed.
Make sure you are not dilly dallying on your way to or from class. This corridor in particular is often times filled with students during the school day and a few professors pointing those who have managed to get lost in the right direction. Various doors flank this corridor, so make sure to memorize which of the portraits are outside of the classrooms you should be entering. And don't freak out when the corridor comes to a sudden halt -- the door at the end of the hallway will take you outside to the stone bridge and then to the rest of the first floor over in the next tower. Just keep moving!

A couple of terms back, Zoryn Spinnet (along with the help of Levi Kenning's former girlfriend, Daisy Carden) had taken the liberty of painting the dungeon corridors to help fix their otherwise drab #lewk. The project, of course, was a success and why shouldn't the rest of the corridors get a makeover too? It was only fair to SPREAD the love and beautify the ENTIRE castle, right? 'Specially if they were to have visitors from another school again. Imagine the embarrassment if the school looked as boring as it did right now. So really, by painting the place, Zoryn was actually doing the school staff a FAVOR.
IT's not like she had anything else to do anyway. I mean there was always homework, but nothing that was actually of any importance.
With this in mind, the Gryffindor set out to paint the walls in beautiful colors of neon pink, sky blue, and bright lime-green!!! She began with the pink and worked her way down about one eighth of the corridor before switching colors. Again, she did the same with the blue. La la la la la. It was already looking SO much better. Honestly, she ought to get an award for all the good work she was doing here. And on top of all of this she was SUCH a good painter!!! The colors were only dripping on the floor in SOME places annnnnnnnnnd the combination was SUPER fun and bright! It would probably even do the double duty of keeping people awake as they walked past the corridor.
Xoxo.
You're welcome Hogwarts.

Zoryn was making some EXCELLENT progress, if she did say so herself. The walls were looking absolutely fan--
Oh.
Upon looking down the corridor, the realization hit her. She was actually not making excellent progress. She had managed to paint a good chunk of the particular section of wall she standing in front of... But the entire corridor... This was gonna take AGES! There'd be no way that she could get it all done before dinner!
Zoryn needed to call in some reinforcements. Her immediate thought went Christopher ('cause she low-key missed him), but he probably wouldn't approve of the mission. Théo was probably her best bet, but Zor had absolutely no clue as to where he would-- Schmoop?
Okay so real talk, she didn't actually recognize the particular house elf. They all sort of looked the same? It was mighty useful that they all talked in third person all the time, made it loads easier to pick them apart. Schmoop. Yes. Good one. "OF COURSE!" She BEAMED big at the house elf. Actually he'd be the perfect candidate for the job. "If you wanna get the other elves in on it too, it'd be mighty helpful!"
'Cause like eighteen hands would be way better than four. How many elves were there, anyway? Could they ALL help???
"I've got some brushes sitting in the bucket! Grab whichever color you wanna work with," for now, Zoryn would be working the neon pink.

Charles was heading to the headmistress's office for a courteous visit. In his arms was a briefcase, inside of which were several battle maps and a music box. The maps were duplicates and were being handed out as gifts. All in good time. He'd already handed out one to Professor Stewart, the headmistress was next on the list.
He rounded the corner and was about to head for the stairs when he caught sight of what Zoryn was doing.
Um, what?
That's what Charles thought as he looked at the brightly painted walls and the house elf and Zoryn standing nearby. Was the house elf helping?
"Creative color combination you got going there," he called out as he approached. "Very bright. Was this your idea?" Of course he knew it was.

Zoryn went back to paint the wall, 'cause this work wasn't gonna do itself! And Zoryn needed to finish before dinner. She was already starting to feel hungry and she had hardly even made a dent in the project!!!! This was gonna be a LONG night. Maybe she'd call it a day in a couple of hours and then pick it back up tomorrow. That honestly sounded like a much better plan.
La la la la painting the walls piiiiiiii--
Uh oh.
The Gryffindor felt her arm freeze, hearing the voice of a Professor coming from behind her. She very reluctantly turned her head, arm held where it had been before he came. Zoryn Amari Spinnet had a couple of options here:
a) She could tell the truth
b) She could blame Schmoop
c) She could get creative
Of course option a was a total bust and it didn't so much as cross her mind for more than 1 second. There was no way she'd dish the truth as it meant getting in trouble and probably landing herself in a detention that she didn't have time for, given her commitment to Quidditch. Option b was appealing, but she'd need Schmoop's help to finish the work and she didn't wanna burn bridges just yet, y'know? So she'd have to go with option c and it was a real good thing she was fast on her feet.
The Gryffindor responded almost immediately, wearing a big smile to greet her Professor with. "Thanks, sir!" She had a feeling he was only saying that though. "It's for class project, actually!" The thing about lies were that you had to keep them real simple, and open ended. That way you couldn't trap yourself in them. It was the very first thing she had learned about them.

Did the history of magic professor notice the Gryffindor's freezing up at his approach? Oh yeah. He may have been new to staff and he was no detective, but that didn't mean he was completely oblivious.
Still, it was good to keep an open mind and not jump to conclusions. He returned her winning smile with a small one of his own and listened as she explained the nature of her wild painting.
"Class project?" he repeated, turning to look at the colorful paintings with slightly raised eyebrows. If Ms. Zoryn Spinnet was listening to his tone she may have picked up on some amused skepticism. Not too obvious, though. "Well, that's good you're doing your homework. Five points to Gryffindor. Well, I'll leave you two to it." Heh.
He strode past the house elf (whose name he had very embarrassingly forgotten) and Ms. Spinnet and began walking in the opposite direction. He stopped when he was halfway down the hall and slowly pivoted around to face them.
"Which professor was it who had the scathingly brilliant idea of repainting our antiquated walls with these dazzling colors anyway?"
Later today he wanted to commend them for their excellent school assignments. Unless of course...

He was a new Professor, Zoryn was sure that he was completely oblivious. Which is why she went with option C to begin with. Hopefully he'd just take her word for it and walk away. That would be the best for absolutely everyone. So y'know, you can walk away now, sir.
Only he didn't walk away. Instead, he sounded somewhat skeptical. Zoryn just nodded in response, trying to keep her words and her lies at a minimum here. If she spoke too much, she'd risk self incrimination. While she was no Slytherin, she knew how to get around these things pretty darn well. "Thanks, Professor! We'll see you around," she looked back at Schmoop in hopes that he wasn't acting all weird and giving them away.
Zoryn couldn't BELIEVE it. She was about to GAIN points for doing something that honestly should have had her LOSING points. This was BRILLIANT. The best day of her CAREER. Dude. This Professor was so--
...... On to her.
Which Professor? "Professor Stewart," it was the first name that came to mind. She could've gone with Hirsch ('cause he was the only one who actually liked her), but there wasn't really a way that she could tie this to Defense Against the Dark Arts.... Unless they could find a way to change it's name to Defense Against the Dark Arts and Crafts. That seemed unlikely.

Well. Okay then. Very specific answer that would also be super easy to fact check later. He'd just be sure to bring it up with her in their next conversation.
"I imagine she must want you to experience painting like No-Majs do. A brief hard stare at the house elf. (Hard, but not angry.) "Well! Keep up the good work, fellas. I'll leave you two to it."
And with that he turned around and walked around the corridor, quickly disappearing from sight.

Mhmmmmmmmm.
Zoryn nodded, smiling with gritted teeth and daring Schmoop to confess to their lie.
"Yeah! Good idea, huh?" she laughed. Oh man, now she had to convince Professor Stewart to let her do a painting project so that she could save her own bum. Things just got a lot more complicated.
Greeeaaaaaaat.
"See ya," she waved at the man, internally cursing him for all the trouble he was gonna put her through. Zoryn didn't even like Professor Stewart!!! Now she had to go TALK to the woman??? Worst. News. Ever.
