High above overlooking the lake and a section of the grounds are the castle battlements. During the Battle of Hogwarts, the battlements where used to defend the school from Lord Voldemort and his allies. This is also where Sirius Black rode away on Buckbeak the hippogriff, but keep that hush hush. Though some damage remains, the battlements remain fairly intact and provide an opportune place to be when an enemy is approaching.
Though there hasn't been a full-blown battle at Hogwarts for many years, the battlements nonetheless provide a nice view from a high vantage point. More often than not, the Giant Squid can be seen bathing himself in the sunlight; thestrals (if you can see them) fly above the trees at the edge of the lake; and if you look closely you'll be able to follow the road that leads to the Entrance Gates. If you're feeling up to climbing the tight spiral staircase to get there, know that it is worth the effort. There are wooden crates and barrels for you to sit on at the top should you need to catch your breath.
"I have yet to talk to any ghosts," he admitted, nervously biting on his lower lip. "Sir Nicholas seems like a pleasant company. I just-never knew how to approach him." Because most conversation starters he'd heard were How can you be nearly headless? or Why was your application to the Headless Hunt denied? and neither ended up well. But now that he thought about it, he should befriend his House ghost. All the things he could learn from Sir Nicholas...
Daehyun couldn't help but burst into laughter when Shera visibly deflated at the idea of being a ghost and not being able to eat. His eyes settled on the bag she carried, a bag that's become familiar to him, and asked, "I take it you have goodies in there?" Cue the grin and puppy eyes. He wondered if he was becoming cheeky around her, but in his defence, she'd made it a bad habit of getting him used to treats she carried in that blessed bag all the time. He should probably get one of his own.
"It should?" he hesitated when answering her question. "I don't think the founders were that unreasonable to make the room basically impossible to find." As it was, it was nearly impossible to find. "We should go on a search soon. Maybe-as much as it pains me to say this, while the others are having a meal?" That way most people won't see two suspicious firsties looking for something they didn't even know where to search for in the first place. And they could always bring snacks.
Another idea would be to sneak out of the dormitories at night, since they'd be inside the castle and safe the whole time - hopefully - but he didn't want to risk getting caught.
"I feel you," she responded lightly, thinking about how approaching ghosts was pretty awkward. Especially if they accidentally moved through you when you said something and they couldn't quite place you. That feeling gave her the heebie jeebies. "I'm also kinda worried I'll say the wrong thing to them. I've heard other students say that the Bloody Baron is a touchy subject for the Grey Lady. And also the whole being nearly headless rather than headless for Sir Nicholas."
Shera would've guessed having eyes would be better than being part of a headless hunt. But what did someone who was alive know about the matters of the dead?
Did she have snacks in her bag?
Was that even a valid question? Shera blinked at Daehyun for a moment trying to work out if it was a joke, but by the puppy eyes was that potentially a begging for food? Cause if so Shera could definitely sympathise. Mind back on food she beamed at him. "Blueberry muffins, double chocolate chip muffins, raspberry and white chocolate muffins, pumpkin pastries, almond cookies, a carrot, chocolate frogs and sugar quills" she listed in a rushed breath, before taking a deep breath in again. And yes, that was snacks preemptively packed for a single day bets could still be taken as to whether or not it would be enough though. She possibly also had sugar cubes which explained her general hyper state but she could leave that as a secret for later. Now, the question was, was he actually asking for food?"You want anything?"
Also did he need her to repeat that list? Because she could if he needed her to.
"Well... one of them made a secret chamber that he hid from all other founders in hopes that one of his heirs would find it," didn't speak to much to reasonableness to her. "Although can you blame them? Like if I were going to create a school I would make so many hidden places and items that are all ridiculous if not impossible to get to mainly because I can... and it would be fun to watch students search." That alone would be worth haunting her own school for all eternity. Speaking of which, why weren't any founders haunting the halls of Hogwarts?
Shera nodded lightly as he spoke. "The house elves make mean burritos, and Nimma's told me I can always go back to the kitchen and get them whenever I want. So like, yeah I'm in," queue beaming at him. House elves were clearly the connections that you wanted, how hadn't the boy across from her worked this out already?

"Exactly!" he said, because those were his exact same concerns when approaching a ghost. "I wonder if the Fat Friar is the most approachable one?" Though he was quite curious to meet the Bloody Baron. As long as he wouldn't mention the Grey Lady - because yes, he'd read all about that - he supposed he would be okay.
Daehyun wondered if he'd offended or upset Shera by asking if she had snacks in her bag, because she'd already fed him on several occasions and it was only a matter of time till she told him to go get and carry his own food around, but soon she beamed at him, and he couldn't help but laugh silently when she listed everything she had in there. And boy, did she have enough to survive through a zombie apocalypse. His cheeks lightly flushed, he said, "A white chocolate muffin? Please?" White chocolate was one of his greatest weaknesses. "I mean, only if you don't mind sparing one."
He would have to repay her. Such great acts of kindness should never be overlooked.
"True," he said thoughtfully, something that Shera had said getting his attention. Would be fun for the founders to watch the students discover or in his case, attempt and fail miserably to discover the secrets within the castle? "Have you ever wondered if they did remain behind to watch it all?" How cool would that be? Though scary, too. The thought of Godric Gryffindor watching him fail at being a true Gryffindor was beyond frightening, to put it lightly.
... then she said something he didn't quite understand. "Burritos?" he blinked in confusion. What on earth were those? He didn't remember seeing any at their usual meals.

Shera thought for a moment, wondering if she had either met said ghost or heard a student mention that ghost before. Eventually she just shrugged her shoulders, a large smile on her face. "Well I haven't heard anything negative about him, so that's gotta count for something, right?"
"Why would I mind?" her head tilted to the side slightly, through shrugged the thought off. She could get through all of her food alone, but she also always carried enough to not be bothered by sharing. The question now was, where was the white chocolate muffin? And which flavour did she want if she was anyway going into her bag. Pulling it as far open as it could manage she ducked her head in rather than just aimlessly moving her hand around and pulling out all of her muffins.
While an accio would have sufficed, the thought of using the spell never even crossed the Ravenclaw's mind. Her arm reached in afterwards, pulling out a white chocolate muffin along with a double chocolate chip for herself. Allowing the bag to hit the ground with a soft thud, she passed the white chocolate muffin to Daehyun.
It wouldn't do to throw it and have it end up on the ground. She'd probably cry at such a waste of food.
"I more wonder why they aren't... just because I think that by now someone would've noticed they're still here. Or you know, you'd see the Grey Lady with her mother every now and then," that was her current theory. Although with the number of secrets in the castle she wouldn't be all that surprised if the founders were chilling in another hidden chamber. Or had found a way to turn invisible.
Shera's eyes gleamed in excitement, a large smile on her face. She was about to introduce this boy to one of the greatest wonders of the world. And he didn't even know it yet.
"It's food. Well. More specifically it's a Mexican type of food. It's like this circle bread but it's flat, like can you believe that? These muggles make really thin flat bread! How awesome is that?" maybe she should chill on the bread. That would probably be a good idea. "Anyways, they're rolled up and have a filling that usually has rice and beans and guacamole. Do you know what guacamole is? It's this avocado thing, sometimes has tomatoes in it as well. And they usually have some kind of meat in it too, and you can choose what kind of meat and how spicy and whether or not you want to have sour cream or cheese or any other extras in it! It's like the best thing in the world. Also it's the only food I'm willing to order when in a muggle filled location, because it's the only thing I know."
And deep breath in to recover from an extended burrito explanation, and she immediately went back to beaming at him. "Nimma makes awesome burritos."
She'd already said that. But it was important to emphasise this point. And as she did she was going to start nibbling her muffin because this food talk was making her feel famished.

"Right," he agreed, grinning. "I wonder-" he muttered, suddenly remembering a room he'd found down in the dungeons on his way back from the Potions classroom one day. It'd been a while ago, when everything was still new and scary to him, so he hadn't dared to take more than a slight peek inside, though the thick coat of dust covering everything, as well as the cobwebs and the heavy mildew smell was all still imprinted in his mind. "I remember a room in the dungeons... it seemed abandoned for a long time, and I think I saw a flash of a ghost there... though I was too afraid to go in at the time..." His eyes, with a slightly mischievous glint in them, met Shera's. "Would you want to-?" Mmmmhmm. She should know what he meant.
As for the founders... "Maybe they're having too much fun watching without being seen." And he supposed they could make themselves unseen. He would probably enjoy it too.
... oh. She didn't mind sharing food. Now, it was a matter of - did she truly not mind sharing food? Which was a concept Daehyun wouldn't ever be able to understand. Or, did she have so much food in there that she could spare a muffin?
It was probably the latter.
"Thank you," he said with a nod of gratitude. "I'll start gaining weight if you keep feeding me sweets." Though that probably wouldn't be a problem, since he was stick thin and a strong wind would probably blow him off his feet.
Then Daehyun could only blink in surprise as Shera went off on a rant about burritos, and he found it oddly fascinating to listen. Maybe because these Mexican wraps sounded delicious - and possibly something that would give him a tummy ache later - or maybe just because he liked seeing her passionate about something. And, boy, was she passionate about food. He liked a girl that could eat. "Well, consider me hungry," he said, taking a bite out of the white chocolate muffin, which was like a bit of heaven on earth. "You must introduce me to Nimma."

Ghost hunt?
Shera was 10/10 in on that. She nodded excitedly, though the expression on her face before that probably gave her away long before she had even tried to communicate what her response was. "That'd be really cool! I reckon there'd be a lot of places in the dungeons that would be good places for ghosts to go unnoticed so maybe theres more that like being down there?"
Unlike the humans that lived in the castle. It tended to be dark, dusty and overall uncomfortable in Shera's opinion. But it did promise adventure and a number of mysteries to be discovered, and that appealed to her sense of curiosity much more than to her general dislike of the location.
Weight gain? Shera giggled lightly, giving him a sly grin. "Guess I just have to get you flying more often or playing Quidditch to keep the weight off then," she joked. Only slightly joked. That was anyway the aim, just not for the purpose of weight loss or maintenance? Besides things like running laps were boring. Even if she did them because 'they would help her stay in Quidditch form'.
She somehow doubted that, but did it anyway.
"You'll love them! And Nimma's usually in the kitchens, we'll have to drop by on the way for our room of requirement hunt!" because any excuse to go to the kitchens was a good one.

Unknowingly, Daehyun grinned from ear to ear because he'd figured Shera's answer even before she'd voiced it and confirmed his thoughts. How awesome was it to have a partner in crime? If they angered the ghosts and got themselves in trouble, at least they'd have one another to, you know, see who screams louder and whose voice gets the highest. He would win, hands down. "I think so!" he said, her excitement so contagious that he was almost bouncing on his feet. "I just hope they don't mind us trespassing into their place... if they have such a thing." Because they were merely first years, and if they angered them, ghosts could go anywhere. Including their dorms to keep them from sleeping peacefully.
He found himself nodding to whatever Shera was saying...
... until he actually processed what she'd said.
"Wait, what? No," he said, his eyes widening. "No Quidditch for me, nuh-uh. You should congratulate me for trying Shuntbumps," he joked, well aware that he didn't deserve any congratulatory medal for his performance during that particular Flying class. But hey, the professor seemed content that he'd tried instead of backing out, so he was happy.
"Please," he answered when she proposed to make a detour on the way back to their respective towers. "Don't the house elves ever mind giving so much extra food?" He could only imagine how many hungry students dropped by on a daily basis for snacks. And then there was Shera, who ate enough for two.

Did ghosts have particular places they were fond of?
Shera didn't know. She also couldn't remember reading anything about territorial ghosts except the muggle conception of ghosts probably disproved her current theory. "Do you think any of the professors would know...? Because I'd say maybe professor Wayland but they're ghosts not creatures..." or where ghosts classified as creatures?
Who knew.
Maybe she could get some information about that in the library. Or a book on the subject from Professor Kennedy. He had a lot of books.
"So you'll go flying with me thought," she grinned at the boy across from her, who had made a tactical error when it came to his wording. He refused Quidditch... now. But one day when he was comfortable flying maybe, just maybe she would succeed. What was the worst that could happen? "Otherwise we could run... but running sucks. Swimming is good though, if you manage to get into the lake. Although maybe we should start you in the hot springs instead..."
There was so much in the world that Shera needed to introduce the boy to. Because yes he'd made her more aware of a whole world when he introduced her to creatures. And there were always going to be more creatures for him to introduce her to. All she had was random food knowledge, flying and currently swimming.
Maybe she needed to expand her interests. Although either way they were partners in crime so there would be new, interesting things that would pop up for them. And especially in Hogwarts...
Shera tilted her head to the side as she thought, before shrugging her shoulders. "They're happy if they make you happy. I don't think I've ever annoyed them by asking them for things. Here they've always said that if I wanted anything else I should just go by and let them know and they'd give it to me. At home they're usually excited to see me too..."

"No, I don't think so," he said, referring to professor Wayland. Ghosts were something else... beings. Definitely not creatures. But if there's anyone that would know them best... maybe the headmistress? Though that was such a bit no-no, he'd never have the courage to go there just to inquire about ghosts.
... namely the right ghosts that would lead them to the Room of Requirement. Their conversation was surely going places.
Laughing lightly to himself, Daehyun said, "I think our best bet is just to be patient till we are truly in need of it." And sure, patience is a virtue, but definitely not one of his virtues.
Vehemently shaking his head, he wondered if Shera would ever accept the fact that he would never play Quidditch, or do extra flying outside the mandatory classes. Then another part of him wondered if she had him wrapped around her pinkie finger that he'd eventually budge and give it a try. And make a complete embarrassment out of himself. "No more flying-" he started saying, until he'd realized something. "Hey, are you saying I should exersize?" Meaning, was she calling him fat? Since she'd listed a number of sports they could do.

"Hmmm... I might be able to find a book in the Ravenclaw library that better classifies them. It has a surprising amount of extra books you can't find in the library," that probably had something to do with the house that she was a part of. Something about encouraging study as far as she knew? But then again, what did she actually know?
"Urrgghh," she moaned her complaint of patience. That was not something she was gifted at. So she pouted as she took another bite out of her muffin.
Why did a lot of things require waiting?
No more flying, she deepened her pout as she looked at him. "But you did so well last time! And you can't tell me you didn't enjoy it to some extent..." he could, but would he? That was the question. Then she heard his allegation of her claiming he needed to exercise, and it caused a fit of giggles that interrupted her pout.
"You were saying you needed to do some exercise if I kept feeding you... so I was giving you options! Plus I wouldn't mind the company either," that last part was true. Exercise was dull when you were alone. Also, there was no way that she would ever stop feeding him. She was good at feeding other people...

Exercise was dull when you were alone. Also, there was no way that she would ever stop feeding him. She was good at feeding other people...
Daehyun had kind of lost track of what Shera was saying. He knew she was still talking about ghosts, but his mind was entirely elsewhere when something else had caught his attention. Books you cannot find in the library? "Books you cannot find in the library?" he'd voiced his thoughts, dumbly echoing her words. "You think there's a chance that not enough people would know I'm not a Ravenclaw if I sneak in there?" Because he was beyond curious?
Enjoy it... to some extent?
... flying?
"I don't know if you've noticed..." A small grin was slowly growing, despite the blush that spread across his cheeks. "But you're not supposed to face the sky when you're flying." But he supposed flying would be enjoyable... maybe if someone else did the flying, and he did the enjoying the fresh air.
He was about to say he'd been joking about her accusing him of being fat, but then... "You exercise? Actually, of course you do-" for Quidditch, why did that never cross his mind? "I-I guess I could join you- but- I'm just bad- awful, really- at any sport..."
... she would know, if his flying skills were any indication.

"Yeah? I mean I guess it's meant to encourage us to keep studying. Theres a few in the library that aren't in the tower and a few in the tower that aren't in the library..." honestly Shera preferred taking her chances in the Ravenclaw tower, but she already felt like Daehyun was upset that he didn't have access to it. Could they sneak him in? "I guess so? It's usually not that crowded, and like... it shouldn't be too hard. Maybe a disillusionment charm or illusion charm just to make sure that you aren't caught if something does happen."
And her brain was off back to wondering how to get her partner in crime into the Ravenclaw common room.
Shera giggled lightly, shrugging her shoulders. "My brother seems to think it's more fun that way?" she offered lightly, hoping that Daehyun had either forgotten her brother was a toddler or didn't think she was comparing his current skill to that of a child. "You'd be surprised at how often I have to fly upside down at home!"
You know. Just in case he did feel bad.
And then she couldn't help but giggle further at his surprise that she actually played sport. She tilted her head to the side curiously at his comment though. "Have you tried many? Cause some work for some people and don't for others... like I'm terrible at ice skating... and hockey." The question was now would he believe her. Cause he hadn't had the chance to watch her fail. Unless you counted that DADA class...

Daehyun grinned only at the thought that Shera hadn't even considered not sneaking him into the Ravenclaw tower because, well- it would get possibly both of them in more trouble than they could probably imagine. Shaking his head with a laugh, he said, "We'd get in too much trouble for it. But if you happen to see a good bestiary in there..." Also one that he didn't already own... he'd be grateful. Beyond grateful.
When she'd compared him to her brother - whom he clearly remembered being a toddler - he scoffed mockingly. "Did you just-you know what, I can't even be mad that you just compared my flying to that of a toddler's." He had more faith in her brother's skills than in his, actually. The image of her flying upside down though... he giggled. "Sounds like you're a great sister, then."
"I trip on smooth surfaces," he deadpanned, before breaking into laughter. "It's safe to say I'd rather not try anything more extreme than walking at a fast pace."

... which was dangerous enough.
Shera smiled and nodded. She wasn't surprised that he was after a bestiary, but she wouldn't have a clue where to start in terms of what he did have and had read and hadn't seen before. But, she did have a conveniently large bag. "I'll go through and put all of them into my bag so you can look through the ones that you don't know yet."
She couldn't imagine being a muggle and actually struggling to carry a likely 20+ books in a bag just for research. Would a muggle bag even have space for all of those books?
Probably not.
And she laughed lightly at the half hearted accusation that the boy through at her. "He's a really good flyer for his age?" queue even more giggling. At least he wasn't mad at her for saying that. "You know, it's actually pretty fun as long as you aren't borderline falling off of your broom." Flying upside down she meant. Because really, she figured that she was just like any other sibling. and she had her irritable can't deal with being a sibling moments too
"Oh..." tripping on smooth surfaces was something. Shera wasn't too sure what she could suggest for that, before she beamed at him. "Then maybe swimming is a great idea. I mean like.... the most dangerous part will probably be getting in and out of the water because of the slip hazard but once you're in it's hard to be clumsy enough to hurt yourself!"

At least she hoped he wouldn't manage it.
Bring everything? "Oh, no! Don't carry so many, please. Just-only if there's something more interesting?" Well, he supposed his definition of interesting differed from Shera's. His kind of interesting was more along the lines of deadlyhighly misunderstood creatures. But the last thing he wanted was for Shera to bother with so many books.
At her next comment, Daehyun snorted. "I would know..." he said, since he had been borderline falling off his broom. And even fell, but at least it was by choice, if that counted for anything, or else he would've hung off like that until someone pitied him enough to get him off. The only reason he'd refused Shera's help was that he would have probably dragged her down with him. "But-errr-those flying lessons that we've talked about-" Maybe they could, you know, fly a few laps?
... before she attempted to turn him into a Quidditch player?
He would need a couple more years, though.
He couldn't help but laugh when she'd mentioned swimming. Grinning, he said, "You forgot the part where I can't swim." Sure, he could be careful not to slip, but once in... maybe he should carry some gillyweed at all times. Just in case.

Shera blinked a few times as she struggled to understand his reaction.
Firstly, hadn't he realised that she always carried a ridiculous amount in any of her bags? And this was her small bag. Then again the boy hadn't realised that she literally carried a few comfy chairs and a decently sized library collection of books in a different bag she owned which was definitely big enough to sit in and read a book.
"Magic bags mean it's super easy though..." to prove her point and mostly because she was hungry she reached her entire arm into her bag and rummaged through it to pull out a cookie and a sugar quill. The cookie was immediately shoved into her mouth.
"We can get on those as soon as your free! I'm like... always available," which was kinda a lie but she would always make time to fly and put off her responsibilities. "We'll start safely and lowly... and not playing shunt bumps for a while."
The teensiest giggle escaped her at the thought of playing it again. But he definitely was not up for that now.
Maybe that was the next step...
And then Quidditch!
"Huh..." she definitely had forgotten that he couldn't swim. "Well.... we can work on swimming too! And the hot springs have shallow areas so you can just stand up so that's always a good start!" Now she just had to work out how you helped someone do something like swimming....

Oh.
Her bag. The one in which she carried a whole fridge, right. Daehyun still didn't want to be a bother, but it seemed like he wouldn't be... so of course he gave in. "Okay, okay. Thank you," he said, smiling gratefully. And he truly was thankful.
Wondering when to meet up for the flying lessons, he said, "I would say tomorrow early in the morning before anyone gets there to witness the entertainment show I would put up..." He had to admit, he probably looked ridiculous. It would likely be funny to everyone except him. "But I'd rather you sleep, so any other time is good for me." Maybe they could do it while everyone else was having lunch, but again, he knew how much Shera treasured food, too, so that was a no.
Upon hearing about the hot springs, his eyes widened. He'd seen them, sure, but never came close... and plus, wouldn't swimming require him to be in a swimming suit?
Oh, no, no, no, no, no. No.
... he didn't even own one. For safety purposes. Why would someone who couldn't swim own a swimsuit to be tempted to get in water and automatically put their life in danger?
Annnnd he was being dramatic again. But all in all, eyes wide, he shook his head at his friend, letting out a nervous laugh. "Don't you think flying is enough trauma for this year?" Heh. Though if she pulled the puppy-eyed look on him, he would probably give in to that, too.

Shera smiled.
Daehyun knew her well. Because while she loved flying and would find it worthwhile to get up for it, give it till after breakfast and she'd be sleeping in a corridor somewhere and definitely absent from classes. "Well... our other option would be a bad weather day to make sure that we aren't seen but that may be... problematic for you." She giggled at the thought of them trying to fly in the middle of a thunderstorm.
"The quidditch pitch is usually pretty empty though. If you don't go when a team is running practice," she mused, hoping that it would put him back at ease again. It wouldn't be surprising if he just assumed that she was going to try to get him on a broom during a thunderstorm...
because that would probably happen one day
"Trauma?" her head tilted to the side and hair fell in front of her face, acting as cooperatively as the curls ever did. How could flying or swimming ever be considered traumatic? They were like literally the most relaxing things that Shera could think about. If she had to relax, those were her go to options. And this coming from a dude who had an interest in creatures that had been proven to cause actual harm to him. Like, Shera could get behind it because they were soooooooo cuuuuttteeeeee.
But still.
1. The augurey and it's tendency to nibble not painful, but one day would be
2. The bow truckle
3. It was seriously only a matter of time
"Cause being attacked by creatures is never considered traumatic by anyone," Shera teased, settling on using that as how to express all the thoughts running through her head.

Go on a bad weather day? That could work, although... "While I don't mind the rain, doesn't it get slippery to stay on a broom?" Or did they have some sort of anti-slip charm cast on them, special for flying in the rain? "And I wouldn't want you to catch a cold." Even though healer Macmillan could probably fix them in the blink of an eye, it still wouldn't be pleasant.
"Then we'll find a day when the number of spectators will be minimal," he said, grinning. It would be nice if he didn't become known around the school as the boy who flew upside down... even if it wasn't by choice.
Blinking in confusion when Shera seemed to be teasing him, he shook his head with a laugh. "Okay, fair enough, you win." Didn't she always? "Isn't traumatic to me," he corrected. Just then, Daehyun fought to conceal a yawn, but it was quite difficult considering the fact that the yawn nearly split his face in half. It was getting late, and he could do with some sleep to catch up on the lost hours that he'd spent reading the previous nights, but he also enjoyed Shera's company that he didn't want to go just yet.
