Felicity was not used to being the first to arrive to class, but she'd been in the Observatory with her telescope before the Astronomy lesson, so she guessed it was no use waiting until any other students arrived. Honestly, there was nothing weird about being first, except for the fact that it felt weird, for no reason she could put her finger on.

Today, apparently, it was extra weird - according to the lack of Professor in the room, she was extra early. Was she supposed to take a seat? Because she wasn't sure she wanted to in the empty room, but hovering around in the doorway also seemed impractical.

Patrick stumbled into the room, hand in his eye. "Good--" nearly stating midnight to Professor Kennedy as he walked further into the room not noticing Professor Kennedy anywhere. Picking a seat and sitting down Patrick attempted to get himself in some sort of awakened state. Usually it was a nap around 7, after dinner that kept him up during the Astronomy classes. Tonight, well tonight he wasn't so...

When she walked into the Astronomy tower, Nerissa had immediate flashbacks to the Defense Against the Dark Arts lesson and visibly shuddered. At least there was no snow, here, or any dummies that she could see either. And it was warm, too. But she’d also not been able to spot Professor Hirsch in that classroom either, hidden as he’d been, and for that the first year scrunches up her brow in distaste.

There were some fellow Slytherins already in class, but none that she knew, so she more or less pouted her way to a spot near the middle of the class and eyes the entirety of the room with clear suspicion.

As Skylar made her way up to the Astronomy tower for that evening's lessons, she had so many thoughts crossing her mind. Like the time she sunbathed last winter with George Pizarro. Or the numerous times she just stargazed with Apollo. The Astronomy tower was useful for that and it was probably one of the reasons she continued the subject with NEWT level was to have the perks of using the tower, without being suspicious. Not to mention now that she was dating Apollo, she probably would feel weird about dropping the subject because Kalen Kennedy was family to Apollo. Distant cousin, whom he probably never saw much before Hogwarts, but family irregardless. Speaking of him, did he know of the actions his cousin had been up to in the tower? Did he care? In the three or so years she knew Kalen Kennedy, he seemed to have the 'chill vibe' down, but that didn't mean he wouldn't penalize them. Or be harder on her in classes because she was dating a family member?

Finally reaching the classroom, she nearly bumped into Felicity. "Ooph-- sorrry....oh, Liss, hey. It's okay to ---" she was about to say, 'sit', but as her gray-blue eyes scanned the room, she frowned at the no professor. Uh... okay then? But look, see, Patrick and Nerissa had taken seats! She beamed over at the two ickle snakes.

... now, where was Mr ... Professor Kennedy? Wait, did dating a Kennedy give her rights to call him Kalen? Apparently that was another discussion she needed to have with Apollo.

Emmalyn quietly entered the room, ready for another astronomy lesson. She hadn't done very well thus far, but had hoped her extra studying before class would help. She glanced around the room, looking to say a hello to Professor Kennedy, but she didn't see him.

She had been hit in the shoulder a few too many times during her last quidditch practice so she was ready to find a seat and put her bag down. The front row of desks seemed like a great place to sit, so she grabbed one of the empty seats, right in the middle of two other empty seats in hopes Night and Daisy would sit next to her. Classes were always much better when she was able to sit next to her friends.

Zarina was interested in Astronomy. There was something about learning about the stars that fascinated her. She always would lay on her rooftop and look at the stars back home and wish she could know all the constellations. Maybe one day she could. As she entered the classroom, she noticed a few slytherins showed up and she beamed and nodded towards them. As Zae looked up to where the teacher was supposed to be there was a mug that had no one drinking from it but there was steam coming out of it.

Strangeeeeeee.

Hmm maybe he went to the bathroom or something?

Ah well, Zae walked to the middle of the desks and took a seat. She got out her notebooks and quill and began to make some doodles. She figured it would pass the time before the teacher started the lesson.

Night was happy that her friend had saved her a seat. In some ways, Astronomy seemed like a Muggle subject, because she'd studied the stars back in Muggle school. However, even though she'd never learned this, or even thought to ask, Night expected that the wizard community had sent people to the moon, and probably even further, far before Muggles had.

What else did she have to learn about wizard astronomy? Now that she thought about it, Night realized there was so much she still needed to know about the wizard world, and wizard/Muggle relations.

She looked around for the professor and felt a small surge of apprehension when she saw he wasn't there. Was this going to be like the Defense lesson from a few weeks ago, but at midnight?

That in itself was something Night both loved and hated about astronomy. She was a night owl, of course, so the timing worked well for her. However, she would prefer to be reading or studying on her own during the time she wasn't sleeping.

With his head slipping out of his hand he startled awake. How had he fallen asleep? Looking around he noticed that there were more people in the room than there were when he had arrived. He looked around and noticed that the other snakes were in here on time and rearing to go aparently. He saw Skylar walk in, "Hey Sky. Think the no professor thing will be like DADA?" He looked around and nodded at the other people in the room hoping that the lesson would be as interesting as it usually was.

It was not his day- err, night.

Daehyun had spent so many nights in a row staying up late and reading one book or another, so the lack of sleep was getting to him and he found it difficult to stay awake so late and focused. Covering his mouth to stifle another yawn, he dragged one foot in front of the other on his way to the Astronomy tower, and moved straight to one of the desks in the back of the classroom, just in case his head fell in the middle of the class.

Barely noticing that the professor wasn't there, he leaned forward over the desk and rested his head on his arms, though he fought to keep his eyes - very much lifeless and empty of any emotion - open to avoid falling asleep.

Daisy entered the classroom and saw that Em had saved a seat each for her and Night. She sat down and prepared herself for the lesson.

Now everything seemed just in order in the Astronomy tower today. Vi scanned the room as she entered, noting the Professor’s absence. A smile crawled onto her lips. Had the Professor gotten stuck in a new book? She wondered or perhaps had the Professor gone on a nice date? Ooh now that would be quite interesting to hear about. Though Olivia Holden would never ask a Professor such a thing... In her mind, she would... but in reality? You gotta be kidding.

She gave a quick wave to Felicity and Skylar when she saw them and then took a seat, waiting for class to begin. Hmm... now where was Mr. Head Boy?

She wasn't even tired, oh no, not tonight. In fact, whether she would get to sleep once the lesson was over was highly debatable. There was just SO MUCH to do now that Professor Hirsch had given her a new lab. So much to unpack, so much to set up, Merlin she was back to not having enough hours in the day! You don't even wanna KNOW how hard it was for her to pry herself away just now. Good thing this lab was up in the towers too, yeah?

"Hey Prof--" Oh....he wasn't here......

So then.....she'd pried herself away from her prepping and her setup....just for the man to decide he was gonna be late. Brilliant. Was it too late for her to go back? Just five minutes. She couldn't very well skip the entire class but it was SO HARD to stay away. All the personalizing that still needed to be done and she was standing here looking at students she wouldn't trust to educate her if they produced a degree by morning.

No offense meant, really, just the Ravenclaw barely trusted some of the Professors as it stood. She took her education very seriously, and when she wasn't actively being educated, she'd have much preferred going off to educate herself rather than stand around idly for Merlin knew just how long.

Could you tell the impatience was talking?

Kye entered the room, trying to stifle a yawn as she did so. She was quick to observe the fact that the professor wasn't here... Kye had grown to be on her guard when this was the case, especially since the snowball day. She couldn't imagine anything like that happening up here, but she was alert either way. Kye took a seat near the front, taking out her Astronomy book and getting in a little reading. She was so tired, she wouldn't be surprised if none of this stayed in her head for more than five minutes.
Oh how she wished she had brought some kind of caffeine. Kye yawned again, letting it go full force this time since Professor Kalen was missing.

... Professor Kennedy was not there.

Weird.

Her eyes roamed the room looking for any stray dummies that might attack them DADA style. Maybe he was in on it? After all there had been a combined Flying and Divination lesson.... room scouted and dummies not found Shera allowed herself to hesitantly enter the room. She was fully prepared for one of the desks to try to eat her.

Eyes spotting Daehyun she slowly made her way over, nodding at him understandingly. "I'll wake you when class starts or if our desks start attacking us if you want to have a nana nap," she greeted him, keeping herself somewhat quiet.

But she really did feel him. Sometimes you just needed a little pre-class nap.

Judging by the hot steaming drink on the desk, the professor was nearby. JUST IN CASE Bel spoke up as she entered the class.

"Hello professor wherever you're hiding, just in case you're hiding." JUST SAYING. Professors were pretty well known to spring out of nowhere. Hopefully it wouldn't be like the situation with Defense Against the Dark Arts. Shouldn't be though, how dangerous could stars be?

She found a place to sit around the middle and looked around expectantly, hoping that some of her friends would show up soon, or at least people that would potentially become NEW friends, that was okay too.

Night classes were alright, she reckoned. Bel got her books and pens out and spent a few moments arranging them on the desk, wondering what they would be learning and idly listening to nearby conversations.

He was almost drifting off... he could feel himself drifting off to sleep, no matter the uncomfortable position he was in... and the creases his clothes would leave on his face... and his hair was probably future oriented and defying gravity... but sleep came first.

And then came a blessing, too, in the form of Shera, who'd offered to wake him up when the professor came or if- the desks attacked them? Ah, she must have been referring to their past DADA class and, indeed, they didn't have the best experiences when the professor was missing from the classroom.

Turning to look at her, he offered a small, tired smile. "Have I ever told you you're the best?" he said, lifting one hand that had turned into a thumbs up, before falling back in his previous position, head resting on his arms on the desk. And this time he allowed himself to close his eyes, too. "You think we'll get ambushed?" he asked, his already sleepy voice muffled due to his face being buried in his clothes.

Midnight.

That was either waaaaaaay to early or waaaaaaaay to late for a lesson. She should be already be curled up in her bed fast asleep under her nice warm covers, Neptune asleep on her other pillow. The only time Rylee wanted to be up at midnight was if she was having a slumber party, watching her most favorite movie, having a dance a dance party, working on her Quidditch skills or camping out in the yard with Reese and their foxes. This...this was none of those things.

The eleven year old had nothing at all against Astronomy, in fact she loved laying out under the stars at night but she was tired. Napping before the lesson didn't so much but make her MORE tired and than cause her trouble afterwards when she tried going BACK to sleep. There had to be a better way. Like eating candy or something before the lesson. Which is EXACTLY what she had done. Hopefully it would help in keeping her awake.

Just before entering the room, Rylee put her sugar quill away. Blue eyes quickly scanned the room. No Professor. See even HE was to tired to be at his OWN lesson on time. Though he was probably just hiding as professor Hirsch had done in DADA. Rubbing at her right eye with the back of her hand and stifling a yawn with her arm afterwards (should have eaten more of that sugar quill) she slid onto the first empty seat she came across doing her best to put on her usual cheerful smile.

Zoryn was exhausted. Emotionally. Physically. Everything-ly.

Between not studying for her classes, Quidditch, the musical, and the howlers that seemed to be coming at a pretty steady rate at this point (thanks, mum), the Gyffindor had hardly any time to do the one thing she should have been doing every single night: Sleeping. It didn't help that half of her classes were held in the morning, while Astronomy was held at the crack of Merlin's behind: midnight.

The Gryffindor contemplated skipping tonight, as she did on many other occasions, but ultimately she decided against it. Not because she liked Professor Kennedy (because she definitely DIDN'T, AHEM). Not because she liked Astronomy (because she definitely DIDN'T, AHEM x2). Not because of anything aside from the fact that her parents were on her case and she didn't need to have a howler shout at her in front of everyone again.

So here she was, in class and not very happy about it.

The fourth year walked up groggily, scanned the room for a) her professor and b) some familiar faces, but ultimately realized that Kennedy was no where to be seen. Zor did, however, walk up to his desk and get her face SUPER close to whatever steaming liquid happened to be in that cup 'cause she was curious.

Eh. Nothing interesting. Okay.... Now where to sit?

Astronomy was cool for a number of reasons one of the main ones being that the classes were always held late. Max was very much a night owl.

The Slytherin slipped into the classroom, found himself an empty desk, got out his parchment and quill before realising that the Professor wasn't even here yet. Huh?

There were already a load of kids here so it wasn't as if he'd gotten the date or time wrong.

Maybe Professor Kennedy had slept in.

Kalen eyed his watch as he seemed to walk right through the back wall of the classroom! He had been so busy making sure a few things were right, that he had missed everyone’s entrance!

Oops? Hopefully everyone wasn’t too confused.

“Hello Everyone! I’m sorry, I’m running a bit late tonight, I had to put a few final touches on something... Well you will see later.” He said as he wove his way through the desks and headed towards the front of the room.

He used a finger to shut the door to the class room and then settled down on his desk and picked up his tea cup, he took a small sip of the liquid before looking around.

“Will everyone get settled please, class is starting.” He said as he kept his leaned back stance on his desk and crossed his ankles, his cup of tea still in his hand and he looked out over the class.

“So does anyone know about Celestial Navigation? Can anyone tell me anything about that?” He asked as he took another sip of tea, curious as to what they all knew.

OOC: Welcome to class guys! We will be moving on in about 24 hours or so!

She didn't think she would ever get used to how the Hogwarts professors would suddenly appear in class. But, there he was, sipping his tea and getting things started.

Emmalyn shifted her focus on the class, and away from wanting to chat with Night. That would have to wait until they were back in the common room. She pondered Professor Kennedy's question for a moment, then raised her hand. "Um, I guess it has something to do with using the stars to find your way around at night." She wasn't sure why she would want to do that. She would much rather use the GPS on her phone, but that wasn't available at school, or even get lost. She actually loved getting lost and wandering around until she eventually found her way back.

….. Huh?

Did Professor Kennedy just come through the wall? Was he a ghost now? ‘Cause this was an EXCITING development.

As for his question….. Celestial Navigation? Never heard of her. “Nope! But I know about Celestina Warbeck,” she offered. Celestina and Celestial kind of sounded the same. “She was a suuuuuper famous singer.” For those who didn’t know. She’d only give judgmental looks to those who weren’t muggle borns ‘cause they had no excuse not to know who Celestina was. She was an icon, an INSPIRATION, a HERO.

In Zoryn’s eyes, anyway.

So was Celestial Navigation finding your way through lyrical genius? 'Cause that was an astronomy lesson Zoryn would be 100% here for.

Turns out Professor Kennedy hadn't forgotten about class. Max watched as the Professor moved to the front of the class before leaning over his parchment and jotting down neatly at the top Celestial Navigation.

He couldn't help but gigglesnort quietly at Zoryn's response and quickly moved his hand to his face to stifle the noise. Celestina Warbeck... That was funny but he had a feeling that's not what Professor Kennedy had meant.

Max nodded at the little Hufflepuff's response before raising his own arm. "Right. Like if you find the North Star you know you're headed north."

At the back of his head, Daehyun merely processed a new voice in the room, and that was when he'd finally looked up, his hand flying to his hair to try to sort out the messed up strands, though to no avail. He most likely had marks on his face too, imprinted by having his face buried in his clothes, but he didn't really have anything else to do than ignore them and pray that they disappeared fast enough.

As professor Kennedy instructed them to get settled, he pulled some pieces of parchment out of his bag, as well as a quill and ink, and his textbook. He'd be lying if he said he hadn't done some extra reading for Astronomy, because it was something he'd grown fond of, and the subject fascinated him to no end.

Stifling a yawn, he raised his hand at professor Kennedy's question. "Like the name suggests, you can navigate by using celestial bodies, like the sun, the moon, or certain constellations- anything, really. People have made maps for celestial bodies, too, so that makes it easier to navigate if you know the coordinates." Which was actually really, truly awesome, and he hoped they would learn how to position themselves on the map by using the stars.

"... isn't it what pirates do?"
