Default Slytherin Table

For those who belong in Slytherin House, on the right side of the Great Hall is where your table awaits. Green banners containing an embroidered silver snake float above the polished table in honour of the cunning Salazar Slytherin. Already placed on the tables are silver plates with accompanying cutlery and goblets. All that is missing right now are the mountains of food and pitchers containing your favourite beverages.

Though your stomach might be growing as you take a seat on one of the long benches next to the table, it is important to not get hangry -- gnawing your arm away or jabbing your fork repeatedly on the surface of the table will do no good whatsoever. Give everyone some time to get settled in and wait for Headmistress Hawthorne to deliver her speech. Keep yourself preoccupied by catching up with your fellow housemates or those who are visiting from the other tables until it is time to sink your teeth into the hearty and delicious meal prepared by the house-elves.

Resident Ghost of Slytherin | Hot-Tempered & Not Amused

Ah, a newly sorted boy that knew how to behave and yet he failed to supply his name. Hrrumpf! What was it with these youngsters? Turning his black eyes on the 11 year old (Patrick) again his bloodiness demanded. "What's your name, young man?"

The loudly squeaking and crying boy (Kei) earned himself a very disapproving look from the Baron. "What's up with you? Have you never seen a ghost before?" Sheesh, and he was sorted into his house.........

Resolutely turning his back on the second year whimp boy the spectre turned his attention to Miss Bellaire. Now that was a girl that could always hold her tongue. "Evening Ms Julie! My summer was like all other summers. How was your summer?" The last was forced out because niceness was not natural. He forced it out which deepend his grumpy mood.

Playing around with his sword the Baron's attention was on the sorting as a Carter youth was sorted into his pristine and noble house. Sheathing his sword as the boy (Ryder) claimed a seat in his floating vincity his bloodiness grunted out a grumpy huff. "Welcome to Slytherin, young master Carter!"

Attention swaying to Prefect Vivian again as she stuck up for a hungry kid. Sulking the Baron grunted. "Fine, young Maxton can eat his food, but he is your responsibility if the house elves see him and complain vigorously to Ms. Vance!" The Baron was not letting the prefect off that easily. Giving out a loud sulky sigh he floated closer to Vivian almost right up to her face as he grumbled loudly. "I've been miserable! The Friar has been following me around all summer like a leech. I hate it." Ugh. He had almost been worse than Peeves.

Floating sideways slightly his bloodiness was peering over at the Ravenclaw Table for a sight of his dear Ladyship when a girl (Philippa) slid into the seat in front of him and effectively blocked his line of sight. And to make matters worse the girl addressed him! He opened and closed his mouth several times before he huffed out grumpily."Welcome to Slytherin, Ms Von Brandt!"

The Baron’s appearance startled Felicity, who was decidedly going to take longer than a year to get used to the presence of the weird ghosts. She was about to reply to his question, but it seemed that he’d already moved on and noticed the kid with the food, so instead she just pulled a face behind his back. Who was he to tell her to keep her voice down? Gosh, the other ghosts seemed practically lively compared to the Slytherin one. The fifth year couldn’t help but grin a little as The Baron was so effortlessly put down by Vivian: the girl was taking being prefect in her stride, of course, but Liss had never had any doubts. She was more than glad that the poor kid could continue eating – acts of genius were not to be punished! Even if she was completely and utterly a tad jealous of him.

Shrugs happened at the question from the newly sorted Patrick. “I don’t know,” Liss said with a smile. “Depends how good at magic you are. And how well you can carry food.” Because if they were clumsy there was a high probability of them spilling the food before they even got it into the hall, and that was just a fact. Grimacing slightly when she realised that she’d practically sent a new kid (Kei) to the brink of tears, Felicity couldn’t help but be glad that Vivian was already consoling him. Oops. Was that bad? Biting her lip, she shook the guilt away – it wasn’t her fault she was completely useless with helping upset children. Vivi was the prefect for a reason, after all.

Leaning her head dramatically on Vivian’s shoulder in a display of I’M EXHAUSTED AND HUNGRY CAN THIS HURRY UP PLEASE, Felicity was only absent-mindedly watching the sorting. She grinned at Junia’s arrival, returning her wave, and mentally reminding herself that she must tell her how incredible her eyes were at some point.

And this newly sorted Snake was an absolute bundle of energy – if Felicity hadn’t been tired already, watching the kid might have made her so. “Hey, Philippa,” she said with a grin and a wiggle of her fingers. “I’m Felicity. Welcome to Slytherin.”

As he happily shovelled more mashed potato into his mouth, Maxton peered around at his housemates and couldn't help but notice that one boy (Kei) in particular was looking a little nervous.

Maybe he was just hungry?

"Hey mate, I packed some extra food. You want some? I could knock you up a plate."

He had packed the extras for his sister but he hadn't seen her around yet. She was probably moping around somewhere like she had been all summer.

Oh, there's someone offering him food. That's...actually very nice of them, and Kei's red-rimmed eyes brighten a little bit at the gesture, sniffling.

"No, no, that's okay. But thank you so much!" He bows his head politely, feeling a little warmer at the kindness he's been shown by these strangers.

Another kind person! Kei wipes a runaway tear from his face. "Yeah, I'm okay - I just embarrassed myself, and...crying is a bit of a knee-jerk reaction to it, is all," he laughs a bit nervously. "But thanks or asking. I'll be all right."

He already feels very welcomed.

....

Welp. There goes the warm and fuzzy welcome feeling. Thankfully out of tears for the moment, Kei resorts to glaring up at the ghost. "Well, no, I haven't. But you caught me at a bad time, sir. That's all." With a sniffle to punctuate it.

Another Snakey first year alert! So yes, the more Slytherin firsties there were, the longer Vivian's list of ickles became. Did she mind? Of course not! The blond watched as the girl came nearer to their table, and she offered her a wide smile. Oh, and would you look at that? Already introducing herself! What a precious! "Hi, Philippa!" Vivian greeted her. "Welcome to Slytherin! My name's Vivian." And she wasn't going to go on about the badge. It was obviously there, pinned on her robes tonight.

Aside from having to meet new Slytherins, Vivian was also equally glad to see her own squad from her dormitory. She beamed at Junia and wiggled her fingers at her. But she wasn't going to disrupt, as it seemed that her dormie and her younger brother looked like they were busy. Perhaps even more Botros babies were getting sorted? Well, either way, Vivian was giving them space. They'd be able to catch up later on at their dorm, anyway.

Vivian's attention was then drawn back to the poor kid (Kei). And he was... crying?! What? It was just her first night as prefect, and she had an ickle crying already? This very much alarmed the blond as she quickly stuck her hand inside her pocket in search for something. She then pulled out her hankie and offered it to him. "Uh, here you go," the prefect said, unconsciously biting her lower lip at the sight of having to deal with crying house mates. This wasn't part of the prefect job description, was it? "It's okay. I think your voice sounds okay." She also offered a tiny smile because, well, she didn't know what to do. Hopefully that worked? "Don't worry. Things will be more bearable when the speech is over. I'm Vivian, by the way." And yes, she too was in a hurry for the feast. Side eyes for you, Headmistress.

Thankfully, Olly came! Which was better, honestly, as Vivian probably wasn't the best person for all this comforting thing especially with an ickle. Her co-prefect got a smile from the blond, before she went over to check if all her fellow Slytherins were still awake and NOT crying. The kid -- Blaze, was it? -- got an acknowledging nod as he joined them at the table. As long as he wasn't making a scene tonight, he was going to be perfectly fine. Please.

And when the Bloody Baron grumbled more than usual, it alarmed Vivian even more than seeing that kid cry. On her first night, she was getting told off by the Baron? Already?! The blond stared at the ghost with slightly wide eyes, blinking a few times, before ultimately nodding. "Yes, sir," she said. She was well aware that Maxton, and everyone in this house for that matter, was her responsibility. No need to rub it further, Baron sir. Then when he floated closer, the blond took in a quick breath of air but still kept her eyes focused at him as a sign of respect that she was listening and all. "The Friar is probably just jealous of you, sir, since we're members of such a noble house." Right? Right. She wasn't going to dig in deeper into the crazy history of how Slytherin house lost its House Cup last term and all that. With that said, she turned the other way and gave Maxton a wink. You're sort of welcome, Carden boy.

Now, back to Liss, who had her head on Vivian's shoulder, which she didn't mind either and she gladly let her dorm mate do so. And of course, she knew that face. "Me too, Liss, me too," she said, and patted the other blond's head with her free hand. It was a bad time to not have food inside her pockets.

Hello, Headmistress? Vivian was sending out 'I am hungry' vibes. We would very much like to be excluded from this narrative.

Skylar's gaze shifted between the sorting stand and Vivian and Maxton with his own food. And there was Patrick! A boy she'd recalled from the chance meeting at the fountain. "Patrick! Welcome to Slytherin!" She grinned at the younger boy, wondering if he remembered her (from her regular street clothes as opposed to the uniform she was now wearing). Her gaze wondered around the hall for Dahlia and frowned when she saw the girl making her way over to the Hufflepuff table. She'd have to go say hi later and tell Hattie to look out for her.

There was Felicity again with a very loud 'genius' comment about Maxton bringing his own food. "Liss!" She smiled warmly at the dormie when she exhaustedly rested her head on Vivian's shoulder.

And then there was the Baron, who completely overlooked herself; what now that it was a fresh term with new snakes and others to overshadow herself, she was invisible? Well fine then, Mr Slytherin House Ghost. It was probably because she told him off for his dislike of Valentine's Day. She wasn't going to be rude to him though, even if she REALLY secretly wanted to. "Sir Baron. How was your summer?" Actually that was probably rude and insensitive, since ghosts couldn't enjoy summer the way humans could. Also, was Kei CRYING about the ghost? The fifth year's heart just about melted; she didn't know him all too well, just one meeting over the summer, but the fact that he had traveled for a year instead of starting Hogwarts last year, well, she wasn't sure what to make about him. But he was being consoled already, so she would just keep a watchful eye from a distance.

Another new student (Ryder) joined them, Skylar sending him a welcoming grin and wave.

Oops? Sorry Vivian and hey at least we didn't include the middle name. Well at least she got the blond's full attention; also she was doing great at this welcoming thing and Skylar was feeling so very proud of her best friend right now. Like, she could just cry tears of happiness, except not because even though her tears would be joyous, they didn't need two crying students at the Slytherin table. "It's always nice to see me," she said cheekily. Also, oh, oh, okay, so maybe she was being very much overprotective, but best friend duties. "I see that!" And for that, she wrapped her arms around her in a hug, because one could never get enough hugs. Plus she like really missed riding the train with her. Can she like not hide out every train term for the next five rides that they had remaining? Cause Sky would be very sad about that.

Aww, Abey was there, but no Junia just yet; Abey was like the honorary Slytherin, Skylar decided ... he was just about as good as one. Sky sent him a smile and wave. Surely seeing Junia's roommates would be of some comfort to the boy.

Another new snake (Philippa), who was just ... did she just? She was just precious and very pretty and lovely, especially for a first year, Sky decided. Was she that ladylike as a first year? Probably not. Actually, even though she wore dresses and heels now, she still didn't even feel so ladylike and was always a nervous wreck thinking she'd fall flat and on her face and just having to walk super slowly. Brent could attest to that from the cruise party last year. "Hi Philippa. Welcome to Slytherin! I'm Skylar. Skylar Diggory."

And there was the fourth member of their dorm squad; Returning Junia's wink with a smile of her own, Sky was almost sure that the Botros fifth year was feeling something akin to how she was feeling. Maybe. But Vivian was simply lovely and sweet, as all her roommates were, and despite knowing how much time this new role might take away from their dorm parties, she was still proud of her.

Finally having a moment after giving welcoming smiles all around at their new additions and friendly greetings to the returning snakes, Sky felt her gaze wonder up to the staff table to see for the new faces. Huh, there were no new faces, but River Reed was sitting down near the end now, which meant what? He was teaching .... was he still their healer as well? And Mr Kennedy had moved seats as well. No Berkovich, or whatever her name was, something to which Skylar was actually not surprised about. She hadn't had an Astronomy professor last longer than a year, so why would she have expected last year's professor to be any different. But wait.... Runes was at the end, which wasn't because the Headmistress taught that, so then Astronomy and ... OHNO. No. No. No.

Please Headmistress, get on with your speech, so we can get some food in our stomachs.

Wait, what? Looked so grown? Vivian was quite taken aback by the use of the term. Eh, perhaps that wasn't a bad thing? After all, the blonde did want to feel a little more mature, so this must be a good first step towards that route. She smiled at Julie, taking it on a positive note. "Thank you, I guess. You look great, as usual," the prefect replied with a wink. Honestly, weren't all Slytherins stunning? "How was your summer?" She, too, noticed two other Slytherins, Teddy and Cameron, and so the pair received smiles from the blonde as they arrived.

... Aww, look at that little one! Vivian couldn't help but sympathise for him. "Hey there!" The prefect greeted him (Kei) with a smile. "What's up? Are you feeling okay?" The kid looked like he wanted the floor to eat him alive. Was he scared or something? Ickle Vivian wouldn't have known what it felt to be anxious around people, since she was obviously a loud extrovert as a child, but she didn't want to make him feel lonely!

And then that other kid -- Carden, Vivian believed -- had an entire MEAL in front of him. Honestly, Vivian was amused and so she smiled at him and sort of let him carry on. If he was starving, she might as well just like him eat up. Sorry, but this Fairfield wasn't going to allow any hungry kid to faint tonight. Nope, not on her first day of prefect duty. The hyper kid (Kyle) got an enthusiastic smile right back. "Hello!" Enthusiasm was contagious, okay?

But the newly-sorted Slytherins got special attention! Did they know Vivian adored young ones? All of them were now considered ickles for the blonde. "Welcome to Slytherin, guys!" The prefect said to the two ickles (Patrick and Ryder). "I'm Vivian!" And can I please adopt you both as my ickles? Pretty please?

You know what scared Vivian more than anything? Being called by her FULL NAME. And the blonde definitely knew who that came from, definitely not her mum. The tone and the voice obviously came from no other than the bestie. Blinking, the prefect turned around to face Skylar and offered a sheepish grin at the brunette. "Hey, Sky! Did you know it's nice to see you again?" Mhm, it definitely was! But being addressed to as VIP in front of everyone present made her turn slightly pink. Again. "Yeah, uh... sorry. But, on the happier note, I'm still in one piece!" No bruises or anything! Vivian Fairfield was safe. Hopefully, that made Sky feel a wee bit better because the blonde totally did not want to be full named again. And was that Junia's little brother? Vivian smiled as Abey approached. "Hey!" she said. "Junia's not here yet, but she's probably coming in a while." Probably with her boyfriend or Astrea, but well... still coming in a few, she hoped.

But thank you, Merlin, for bringing Liss so Vivian could direct her attention elsewhere. "Hi, Liss!" The prefect greeted. She hadn't been able to sit with her at the train ride, sadly, but she gladly offered a seat beside her now for the feast. And yes, Vivian definitely noticed how she obviously praised that Carden boy for bringing food. "Yeah, me too." Could the speech hurry up now? She didn't want to become a fainting prefect tonight, not at all.

... Goodness. First, Vivian got called out by Skylar and, now, the Bloody Baron was here! Merlin, this was a rather eventful first night back at Hogwarts, and dinner wasn't even here yet! "Good evening, Sir Baron!" She offered her best smile at their house ghost. Oh, so he was concerned with the Carden boy and his food? Err, well, Vivian honestly didn't mind. "He's probably already hungry, sir. We wouldn't want fainting Slytherins on the first night back, do we?" Right? But, you know, to change the subject as Vivian didn't want to be called out for doing nothing but being sympathetic tonight. "How have you been, sir?"

Keen eyes that looked more green today than blue scanned the table in search of Junia's people and her lips quirked suddenly at the sight of them. Abey in particularly was a welcome sight, as the fifth year's nerves over Alanna and Aaron's arrival at Hogwarts had her slightly on edge. She was doing her best to hide it, but she could be transparent around him. "Waiting for someone in particular?" The brunette settled down beside him and stole his arm, giving it a gentle squeeze as her gaze followed his to the sorting ceremony. "They'll be okay. I mean, we're okay and we went through it. They'll get through it, too. It'll be fine." It would be, wouldn't it?

Deep breaths, Junia. Merlin.

The roommates were here and they received a wink and a wave from the Botros girl whose attention had shifted to those around her. Vivian had fallen into the role of prefect nicely, it seemed, and while Junia felt that familiar twinge of jealousy, she was proud that her friend was succeeding. If someone else was going to get the honor, at least it was someone she enjoyed and not someone completely awful.

The newest additions to Slytherin house received a semi-cheerful "Welcome," and a smile. If she had her way, her youngest siblings would soon be joining this small group so that she could look after them properly, as big sisters were meant to do. The younger returning snakes also received a smile, though she refrained from asking about their summers, as it seemed redundant and surely she’d overhear the information as the feast went on.

Junia had been so lost in thought that she almost didn't notice the interaction between the Bloody Baron, Maxton, and Vivian. Huh, bringing your own meal to the feast.. She'd seen snacks smuggled in before, but not a full meal. Was that gravy? She wasn't sure she agreed with the whole genius proclamation. A genius might have been a bit more stealthy with the whole thing. ”Great, now I’m even more hungry than I was before,” She said quietly to Abey with a sigh. Actually, she’d been too nervous to be hungry before now, so thank you, Maxton, for making her notice the slowly growing grumble in her stomach. ”I hope the speech is a short one.”

Eyes back on the twins, the brunette propped her chin on her hand and waited.

Patrick looked at the Bloody Baron and blushed a bit at his error. He knew to always lead with his name, however he had gotten a bit caught up in impressing the Baron. ”Sorry Sir, my name is Patrick Dooley.” His father had mentioned how he should always respect the ghosts, they knew everything. However, his father never mentioned the Bloody Baron in their conversations before he left. He couldn’t ask his brothers as they had no experience with the ghosts of Hogwarts. Following his manners, Patrick continued the conversation with the Baron, ”I Hope all is well with you Sir.” If anything he would be the most well-mannered first year in Slytherin, but his mother would be proud. His father would tell him that he should stand his ground though, as a fellow Slytherin.

An older girl (Junia) looked over at the other first years and himself, he heard her greeting, nodding his head. ”Thanks,” he mumbled under his breath assuming it was just a pleasantry, but not wanting to appear rude to her either.

In all of his conversations with his father over the summer, none of them had prepared him for the comradery of his fellow house members. It was as if his dad had left out a lot of the details, granted his mother hadn’t said much about being a Ravenclaw. She had said her time at Hogwarts was amazing, and that he would love it too. Maybe they didn’t want to influence you, duh. Yet, the only thing his parents had braced him for was his accent. His American twang stuck out considerably when talking with all of the people who had grown up in the surrounding area.

Felicity’s response was true, ”I guess I hadn’t thought about that. Don’t suppose it stayed warm in there?” He supposed it would, but he didn’t know much about these types of things just yet, his parents hadn’t done a terrible amount of magic when he was really young. His brothers on the other hand, they liked to know and try everything they could.

Vivian and the other prefect Oliver greeted his growing crowd of first years at the table. He saw the distinction on their robes. He figured they were being nice enough for a brief introduction. ”Thank you.” Patrick said in response to their greeting not sure what he thought of them yet. They obviously had many friends in the house and at Hogwarts in general, he hoped that they weren’t too strict.

Patrick whipped around, he recognized that voice, "Hello Skylar!!! Thank you, so glad to be in slytherin." It was so nice to see a friendly face.

PHILOMATH ❅ not one atom, but two ♪ ♪ made of starstuff ❅ def main():

Philippa's mind whizzed and whirred as she watched everyone around her, young and old, and was absolutely determined to learn as much as she could as quickly as possible. Information is power, Dad always said, and she wanted to know everything so that all the older students would think she was cool. If the older students thought she was cool, then she'd officially be the most powerful first year in Slytherin.

How wonderful! She'd be the best dressed and the most powerful. She wasn't exactly sure what she'd use all this power for, but she definitely knew she wanted it. Like the power of a great smile, and the power of a good runway talk, Philippa wanted the power of a first year Slytherin.

"Thank you very much Sir Baron!" she bowed her head, the same way she bowed when she went to all the fancy family events in Germany. All the von Brandts bowed and curtsied. It was a family tradition! "I'm very excited to be a Slytherin sir." She smiled sweetly at him and added a slight eyelash batting that got her attention all the time. The epitome of cuteness!

Oh, a male prefect! He was important too, yes he was. Philippa shot him another famous bright smile. "Hello Oliver, my name is Philippa von Brandt!" And he's definitely going to remember her, because she was going to talk to him a lot. Throughout the term. All the time. Yes. His eyes were so dreamy, so deep. Almost like hers!

Then Philippa officially melted because an older girl was talking to her! "Thank you very much!" Philippa beamed, and immediately checked that her hair was all still in its place. How embarrassing if it wasn't! Very un-Philippa-like. She took the opportunity to also check that her collar was straight and her skirt was smoothed down. "You have such a pretty name, Ms. Felicity!" Because she did. And she was very beautiful too, but Philippa didn't really tell girls that they're pretty. Only under very special circumstances.

The Slytherin girl prefect's name was Vivian and Philippa was so excited she almost swooned. Instead, she kept her composure like Papa had always taught her to do, like that one time they walked by ALEC SUMMERS and Philippa had wanted to run up to him and bite his arm because she loved him that much, but Papa explained that they always needed to keep their composure and act cool. Acting cool was super important. "Thank you very much Ms. Vivian!" she beamed at her the same way she smiled at Oliver the male prefect, and then turned the same smile at another older girl, a Skylar. "And thank you very much as well Ms. Skylar Diggory! I''m very happy to be a Slytherin, like my Papa." That last part was addressed to the group at large, because Philippa believed in sharing information.

She knew that surname. She'd heard it before. Perhaps Skylar was extremely important! She'd have to be friends with her too. So many friends and so soon! Philippa was having the best night already.

Oh, and she'd say hello to the other first years later. They weren't that important right now. And food wasn't that important either because she'd ate like her Papa and Dad had told her, so she wasn't starving like everyone else seemed to be. She felt sorry for that boy with the food, eating all alone like that. He probably had food allergies or something. Poor guy. She will say hi to him soon to make him feel better.

The problem with staring up at the Sorting ceremony with such intensity that he was in danger of accidentally scaring the first years, was that Abey sort of missed a lot that was going on around him. Except also not really, because as much as Abey wanted to keep his eyes on the proceedings at the front of the room, it made him so nervous that he also had to keep looking away again.

Lots of people, lots of people but no Junia. YET. YET because of COURSE she would be here DON'T BE SO SILLY ABEY. Mairwen wasn't here yet either and she had no reason to sit anywhere else especially when her Julie was here, so that clearly meant people were still arriving. Also students continued to filter through the doors of the Great Hall, that was a good clue as well.

Julie had even waved to him and everything, and because Abey was polite he returned the wave, even if it was sort of a distracted one and he went right back to holding onto the edge of the table like it was a life raft, and then he did exactly the same when Skylar smiled and waved at him too, a little relieved that neither had chosen to strike up a conversation with him because Abey was a little concerned that if he tried to speak to anyone at the moment, that he'd end up just screaming something that didn't make sense instead. And that... that wouldn't be fun. For anyone. But mostly for Abey.

Junia's actual name actually being mentioned drew Abey's attention elsewhere, and so naturally he zeroed on in the girl who had said it - someone Junia knew, he was pretty sure, though it was difficult to remember who everyone was... but this one had a badge! Pretty badge...

Ahem.

"O-oh... okay..." Abey squeaked out, which was STRESSFUL because he didn't know her at all and she was OLDER and talking to HIM and ANXIETY LEVELS WERE HIGH. But, well, at least he hadn't screamed incoherently in response. "Thank you!"

He looked away again, intending to keep his eyes trained on the doors to the Great Hall, but instead catching the eye of one of the new first years who had already been sorted (Philippa).

Why.

Was.

She.

Looking.

At.

HIIIIIIIIM?!

Abey quickly looked away again, wide-eyed and nervous and SCREAMING INTERNALLY and breathing juuuuuuust a little erratically, considering just running away right nOW (before the Bloody Baron noticed him and tried to make him leave like he had done in the past) and waiting outside his common room for the Feast to end (except NO because that meant being alone in the castle), when-...

... When a very familiar, very comforting presence appeared beside him. Abey looked towards her, but he already knew that it was Junia and, naturally, he relaxed almost instantly. He would have stolen her arm too, actually, and linked arms, but she had already stolen HIS.

"Maybe yes," he replied, finally breaking into a relieved smile. "But it's okay, I think she's here now." Glancing back towards the Sorting again, Abey bit his lip. NATURALLY he wanted to argue that maybe he technically actually didn't get through his own Sorting as it had all been WRONG etc etc etc, but... decided against it, because Junia was nervous too. And Abey possibly knew partly why; he was maybe a little terrified that Aaron and Alanna would be split up, and that he or Junia wouldn't be able to do anything about it. In fact, he was more scared of THAT happening than of remaining the only Botros in Gryffindor.

Maybe because... well... he sort of knew for sure that the latter was definitely going to happen.

While they waited, Abey finally took real note of what was happening at the Slytherin table, mostly because Junia was. And... Maxton's food was... um...

Genius, really.

"I have sweets from the train in my pocket, if you want some?" Abey whispered, turning back to Junia. "I actually saved some to share with the twins, especially in case they-..."

No time to finish that sentence, because, speaking of the twins, it looked like it was about to be their turn...

There were a TENSE FEW MOMENTS THERE, specifically the entire stretch of time between Aaron's house being called, and Alanna's. And then... relief. Sort of.

And a little tiny incy wincy huge amount of jealousy, and maybe just a dash of longing, and maybe just a whole lot of resignation that there was still only one Botros lion. A red sheep.

"Did you guess Hufflepuff, too?" Abey asked Junia, keeping his eyes on the twins and trying not to think TOO much about how neither he nor Junebug were in a house with the littlest Botroses. "... Maybe I can ask Derf to make sure they're okay, and to tell me if they're not..."

Fretting. Fretting was already happening.

Her stomach was getting louder now and Junia placed a hand over it, attempting to muffle the rumbling and ignore the rosy tint on her cheeks. Somehow it didn't seem very princess-like to allow such noises to be heard by others, particularly others who didn't know her yet. Lucky Abey seemed to have just the thing to help. He was good like that, Abey was.

"Sweets sound perfect. Maybe we can bring what's left to them after they-" But she'd seen it, too. It was time for her baby siblings to be sorted and her heart was racing as she watched, her nervous energy being channeled into the wringing of her hands. It felt like the hat took ages, too, though in the end she found that she was more pleased than anything else. Well, mostly pleased. This was one of the things she'd hoped for. Aaron and Alanna would be together and they could look after each other like they'd learned to do. The relief she felt because of that couldn't be put into words.

After offering her brother and sister a grin, half standing so she could be seen, the brunette turned her attention to her cousin. "I had a feeling they'd be in Hufflepuff, yeah. I think they'll do well there." Though she would've been more happy to have them here with her in Slytherin. She just kept reminding herself that they were together. That was the bright side. That was what allowed her to give the boy next to her a reassuring smile that was genuine. "That's a great idea, Abey. I was wondering who I could get to check in on them, but Derf seems like a great choice. You think he'd be up for that?" She nudged him gently. "Also, I was telling Alanna that maybe we can pick a time where the four of us can bake or play games or hang out like we do when we're home. I think that might help them settle in." And it'd help her worry less. And maybe it'd help remind Abey that no matter what house he was in, he was family and he was loved more than she could possibly say.

Slytherin by heart

Kyle watched eagerly as new Slytherins joined the table. It felt like this monumentus occasion where he wasn't the one being sorted, but was actually getting to see others join his table. It felt like a rite of passage. Growing up just a little bit. He found himself wiggling and squirming between kids coming to the table, jumping up to greet each one before sitting down and going back to his impatient dance. He was bound and determined to get to know others even better this year, do well in all of his classes (except maybe Flying and History... again), and maybe even guide some of the first years. How many were muggleborn? Would it be impolite to ask?
