Default Seating Area Outside Professor Hirsch's Office

Just outside of the office sits a small area just for the people who want to see the Defence Professor. This seating area contains hues that match the ones found in the office itself. Comfortable orange and teal sofas are dotted around a table that contain a few magazines about the latest defensive theories and spells.

However, something that catches your eye as you enter the area is the large mural that's been constructed there. The mural depicts a mountainous area with green hills and a grey castle. But the main focus of the mural sits with the large gold and red dragon that's rearing its head and firing a bought of fire towards a lone figure much smaller than the creature itself. The figure is one of a brave knight who blocks the fire and is ready to tackle the dragon itself. A pale yellow fairy can be seen aiding the knight by poking the dragon or tugging on its ear or otherwise distracting it. The animated scene, while looking like something out of an adventure book, is one that always made the Defence Professor smile everytime he looked at it.

Knock, take a seat and wait for Professor Hirsch to call you in.

Please make sure to post here first having your charrie knocking and wait for me to get back to you. I'll get to you as soon as I can. ^^

The mural was done here by Hadley Denaker (Callie)! Thank youuuu! <3

Kirk was glad to be back at Hogwarts surroundings once again. Fifth year, it was a dreaded year he heard even with considerable planning. He was meant to consider career stuff, he had a good inkling on what he wanted to do.. But options were an important thing, leading him back here.. And hanging with a mentor was a good plus. Hirsch was one of the cool adults around.

After rapping on the door he reclined for a moment to gaze at the mural. He wondered why the dragon didn't burn the fairy as the knight was using the distraction to his advantage. Not that he wanted the fairy to die, but he was curious on the dragon's intellect on not seeing the plan. It was something to think about while he waited for a bit or his Head of House.

Kyle made his way to Professor Hirsch's office and knocked lightly on the door. Throughout his studies last term with the man, he'd gotten to the point where he was no longer shy about talking to him outside of class. Not that it had shown much when he originally came to the man's office, but it had actually taken him a lot of courage to do that! Probably why he'd seen him so late in the term. Well, late to this kid, anyway. But now the new term had officially started, and there were extracurricular studies that Kyle wanted to discuss with the Professor that they had talked about last term. And, of course, the boy wanted to share his excitement at new developments in his personal training.

Isa knew that if she wanted to improve her performance in defense against the dark arts this year in preparation for OWLs next year, she would need to have a serious conversation with Professor Hirsch and would probably need to find someone to tutor her in the subject because her performance in the subject had been less than satisfactory for the past three years. Now, as a fourth year, Isa was starting to think about how her performance in this class would affect her in the long term. Of course there would be OWLs next year and NEWTs later. Those were important. Her scores from those exams would affect things like what universities she would be accepted to and what jobs she could get in certain fields. Not only that, but self defense was an important life skill. As of now, Isa was almost completely helpless when it came to self defense. She hadn't even been able to stop Saffron from hexing her last term. Although she was against violence, Isa was realizing that it would be good to learn how to defend herself in.case of an emergency. One day she might face a life or death situation, and she didn't want to die. She had heard about how it was always the Hufflepuffs who died, and she had no intention of dying. Timidly, Isa knocked on the door to the professor's office and sat down on a teal sofa to wait.

It shouldn't have come as a surprise that he already had a visitor so quickly into the new school term but the fact was, it did come as a surprise. He didn't think anyone had any queries so soon and, unless some area of the school, the Defence rooms or the Ravenclaw tower was being destroyed, he didn't understand why he was being needed.

Maybe that was why he was staring at the back of the door with a confused look on his face.

Shaking his head, Hirsch picked up the wand sitting on his desk and gave it a flick towards the door. The door swung open slowly, revealing the Defence professor leaning back on his seat with a cup of coffee cupped in his hands. It was needed to kick start the day, after all.

"Come in!"

To anyone else, the board Hirsch was currently frowning at might have looked slightly odd, making him look slightly mad in the process, but to the man, it made a lot of sense. There were notes everywhere with pictures and further notes hung up and being linked to the central one. Every now and then, the man would tap his wand at the various pieces of parchment, making the words wriggle around on their own and form new ones.

It looked crazy but, then again, that's how lesson planning went.

He hardly registered his surroundings and, if it wasn't for the pause he took to rub his eyes, he might not have even noticed the knock on the door. Adjusting his glasses back in place, he called out, "Come in!" The Defence Professor settled back onto the edge of his desk, still frowning slightly at the board but, this time, intrigued as to who the visitor was.

The next knock that came on his door was so faint, so timid, that Hirsch almost missed it. In fact, the man paused during his marking and looked up at the door, wondering whether there had been a knock or whether he'd imagined the whole thing. It wouldn't be a far-fetched thought, would it? And he wasn't exactly the type of person who would be pranked - he did think of himself as a type of professor who was slightly too cool for that.

But this didn't stop him from getting up from his seat to see if he was right or not. Pulling the door open slightly, he poked his head through the other side and looked up and down the-

"Isa?" Surprised? He certainly was. "I- come in, come in." He held the door open, hoping that she didn't have another question about why people did bad things. If so, he might need more coffee for a conversation like that.

Jessa had suggested he talk to Professor Hirsch, so here he was. It wouldn't be weird right? People didn't just come here to ask questions about Defense Against the Dark Arts. The professors were here for personal questions too, right? Plus, he couldn't exactly ask his Head of House about this. Plus, Professor Hirsch was very nice. Usually.

Knocking on the door, Cameron then moved to sit on one of the orange sofas.

Luckily for the boy, Hirsch was in his office.

Feet propped up, book in his hand and an utterly relaxed - and slightly bored - look on his face, the Defence Professor was currently reading. A piece of parchment, half-filled with notes, sat on his desk while he twirled a quill in his right hand. Occasionally, the man would stop to scribble something down on the parchment, whether it be a tiny footnote or an entire paragraph of information, before settling back to the reading again.

Nothing seemed to drive the man out of the reading. Nothing, apart from a small knock on his door.

Blinking out of his stance, Hirsch glanced up at the door and stared at it, as if he could see through it and see who it could be on the other side. But seeing as he couldn't, there was only one thing for it: "Come in!" he called, taking his feet off the desk and sitting up properly.

Isa went to go find the defense against the dark arts professor immediately after finding the mysterious blood painting by the bulletin board. After all, he was one of the closest professors to the bulletin board and he seemed like the appropriate professsor to go to given the situation. Out of breath from running up the stairs, Isa pounded on the door to get the professor's attention. "Professor Hirsch! There's something really weird and scary down by the bulletin board! You've got to come see it! It's like a painting of a bird done in blood or something!" That covered the basic details of the situation, yes? Beyond that Isa didn't really know what to say. She was sure that this was part of some bigger evil plot, but there wasn't really any evidence of anything bad yet other than the painting. Professor Hirsch would know what to do, right?

..............

What in the name of?!

One minute, Hirsch was adding in a small footnote in someone's essay and the next, there was a pounding on his door, as if the person on the other side was prepared to break down his door using their bare hands. But the worst part were the words being shouted through the door from a very familiar voice. Something about weird, scary and....... blood?!

Again, what in the name of?!

Swearing under his breath, the man dumped his quill, grabbed his wand and rushed towards the door to pull it open. The fact that Isa was standing there didn't phase him, not when there was something bigger in the works as well. "Lead the way, Isa," he said, closing the door behind him and holding his wand aloft. Constant vigilance, you know? "And explain what happened." Especially if she noticed anything weird around the area.

What a wonderful day at Hogsmeade. She'd restocked on quick-quotes quills and makeup, and had even visited the Shrieking Shack. Merlin, she remembered when that place used to scare her. The fear vanished when she found out Tenacius partied there. Now she visited it every time she went to Hogsmeade. Of course she also made sure to keep a watchful eye on her fellow students to make sure no one got in trouble.

Now she was back with her arms full of supplies and heading back to her dormitory. She was going to unpack and then head on down to the library and then to the great hall.

But the door was slightly ajar. "Huh?" she said quizzically, glancing at it in a puzzled way. Was this Peeves doing? Frowning, and with a creeping sense of urgency that it might be something worse, she hurried into the dormitory and gasped.

"MERLIN!"

She was going to Professor Hirsch!

Barely dropping her things on her bed, the head girl turned heel and ran as fast as she could while still being careful to Professor Hirsch's office. She brought one quick quotes quill with her and a paper, but nothing else.

Arriving in the waiting area, she strolled up to the door and knocked.

It was a Hogsmeade weekend and therefore, the man had just returned to the castle himself. Lunch had just been had and there was a large packet of sweets he needed to send to his nieces in time for Christmas. They seemed to like the weird British candy with the weird packaging and who was he to say no?

The bag from Honeydukes was dropped on his desk and he'd just made his mind up to grab a cup of coffee before doing anything else when-

..........

Hirsch glanced down at his watch and then over at the door. Weren't most of the student body meant to be in Hogsmeade right now? Getting sweets, butterbeer and joke items to use when the professors weren't looking? Or was there something important he was needed for that just couldn't wait?

Silently hoping that the person hadn't been kept waiting long, he strode over towards the door and pulled it open. "Hey, Kitty. Everything okay?" Did she want to come inside...? He was sure he could spare some sweets for the Head Girl before they were sent off.

"Professor Hirsch!" she began breathlessly, the toll of having run so quickly catching up to her. "Everything's not okay, I don't know what happened. I was just coming back from Hogsmeade, and was bringing my new belongings to the common room, when I noticed the door to our dormitory was slightly off its hinges." She took a pause to breathe. "Well, I went inside and saw EVERYTHING was a mess, things were ripped, tossed around, broken. I don't think it was Peeves, but I know it couldn't have been any of us. You should come and take a look!"

She only hoped it wasn't the monster who'd almost killed them from that other, stranger Hogwarts.

.................

Er.

Hirsch blinked as the girl started spilling out a story while still catching onto her breath, almost as if she had..... ran here? Not that it mattered in comparison to what it was she was telling him. His eyebrows furrowed more and more as she continued telling him what happened: door off its hinges, things ripped and broken and not a sign of anyone who could've done this? What was happening?!

The man didn't dare interrupt her flow as she said what she needed to but he did reach for his wand and took it out. "You didn't see anyone or anything else nearby? No one looking suspicious?" he asked, moving forwards and locking his door behind him. There was a small frown on his face because, frankly, this was very odd. Call him naïve but this didn't sound like something one of his Ravenclaws would do. "Lead the way, Kitty."

Default totally different timeline from all the other office drama
Browncoat l Extra Syrup l Kita's Strong Confident Other Half l Lemon Patch

It had been like BASICALLY PRACTICALLY all year without Emma having stepped into her papa's old office BUT that was ONLY CAUSE she had been saving the BEST for last, and it DID take her all of this time to explore the entire castle twice. She was blaming classes cause her parents said she HAD to go to them all AND do the homework, and like, a girl needed sleep too???? So it took her a long time to get here. Even if she'd already technically meet the professor on account of her taking his class.

The waiting area didn't seem TOO different as she skipped inside, but that mostly was because she had spent most of HER time in the actual office and not waiting to get into it. How long did they have to wait, anyway???

KNOCK. KNOCK. "Professor! It's Emma!" That made him open the door faster, right? She knocked once more just in case and then went over to look at the dragon in the mural.

............ Emma?!

Hirsch, who had his quill poised to write a letter to his mum, paused and glanced up at the back of his office door. Emma, Emma..... Dakest? The daughter of his predecessor? His green eyes lingered on the door while his eyebrows furrowed slightly. Why was she coming to see him so urgently? She didn't have an appointment he was unaware of, did she?

Slightly confused, the man swapped his quill for his wand and flicked it in the direction of the door. The door swung open slowly, revealing the Defence Professor trying to subtly slide the unfinished letter to the side. It wasn't important, exactly, just a catchup on his holidays because his mum was the type of person who liked to know everything.

........

Right. Emma.

"Come in, Emma!"

Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite

It really hadn't been all that long a walk from the Art Classroom to the Professor's Office and while she did notice they'd had to pass the History of Magic Professor's office to get there and knew it was Marchand who was in charge of that club, the Ravenclaw hadn't felt even the faintest bit more inclined to stop there. Nope. Her Head of House was the clear answer here and there was very little if anything that anyone could do to change her mind.

Knock. Knock. Knock.

"Hello? Professor Hirsch? Open up, it's important!" Had to drop that last bit in, so he would know this wasn't just a midnight social call because then he might've decided to roll over and go back to sleep.

Granted, with all the dramatic teenagers the man was sure to see on the daily basis, he may have decided it wasn't so far fetched to believe this important matter wasn't all that important but that was okay because Zoryn was here too and if anyone could up the drama to get the point across, it was her. Jessa turned to the Gryffindor as if giving her the cue to go ahead and knock too.

Right. Emma.

"Come in, Emma!"

OOC: MY STRONG CONFIDENT OTHER HALF Sorry to keep you waiting, lovely! You're welcome to post in the office thread now ^^
No matter how much she was loving the dragon picture NOTHING was gonna keep the first year from going into her father's old office, not even a REAL dragon (but how cool would THAT be if he had one???). Emma didn't miss a BEAT at the site of the door opening OR the sound of her being called inside. She waved at the picture and ran in before the door could close itself behind her.

ooc: guuuuurl, you're fine. I'm just gonna pretend like it didn't take me a whole month to reply to this >.<

Zoryn definitely remembered that they'd have to walk by the History of Magic classroom on their way to get Professor H, but did she feel even an ounce of remorse? Not at all. Noah fence, but like, all of the other Professors were useless. Professor Hirsch was the most qualified and the nicest.

Zor wanted to be the knock, but Jessa already went ahead... Which was slightly disappointing. Especially 'cause 'it's important' didn't make their case sound that important. SO when the girl signaled Zoryn to give it a go, she was VERY willing.

Stepping forward, the Gryffindor made a very dramatic show of knocking a couple of times.
"Professor, SOMEONE RANSACKED THE ART ROOM!!"

............... What in the name of?!

Hirsch was prepared for being woken up in the middle of the night. You couldn’t stay at Hogwarts without being woken up at least once for some reason or another. And usually, that reason was a very strange one, thanks to the nature of the castle itself.

Just like this one.

Even if the girls had said ‘it’s important’ and left it at that, the man would’ve still answered with a sense of urgency. As it were, it didn’t take long for him to get up, slam on his glasses, pick up his wand and dressing robe and head into his office area. The door was flung open, revealing the Defence Professor looking slightly disheveled with his hair all over the place but otherwise very much alert. "Ransaked the Art Room, did you say?" he asked, sliding his arms into the dressing gown and over his blue pyjamas, "Lead the way, ladies. And while we go, maybe the two of you could explain what happened and if you saw anything fishy in the area." Questions about why they were out of bed so late in the first place came to mind but seeing as it wasn’t a priority right now, he wasn’t going to ask it.

Leave it to Zoryn to make sure the point got across. Jessa shot her TWO thumbs up, pleased by the way she'd upped the ante in this dimly lit seating area. Good job, when it doubt, leave it to the Gryffindor. Ravenclaws could be dramatic too...but it was a different sort of dramatic...one that probably wouldn't work well here.

THERE he was! Right on cue, looking perfectly alert. See? This was why they had to go to him. He was PREPARED for disasters.

Jessa turned on her heels, starting back toward the ransacked room. "I didn't see what happened, Zoryn was already there when I walked in. We think it might have been Kitty again." But Zoryn could expound more on that. Maybe she'd seen anything at all that might've been useful.

"There was a howler too, steaming mad and ready to explode. Yelled something about us being lazy for using magic to make the set designs and how we should try using our hands to do the work ourselves or something like that." It wasn't word for word but as the young girl walked, she tried remembering everything it said.

"And when it blew up afterwards....it was this....there was an image of a bird in the smoke...a weird sort of bird. The ashes should still be on the ground. We locked the door to preserve the crime scene." Because that's what it was, you know?

SEE, Zoryn knew Professor H was the right guy for the job! She made a show of greeting the man with a wide-tooth smile as he emerged from his office looking a little like he had just rolled out of bed, but still managing to be SUPER alert at the same time. #Goals.

“YEAH!” She nodded, a lot more excited and a lot less terrified than she probably should have been. It wasn’t her fault that they literally came across a CRIME SCENE !! It was by far the most EXCITING thing that had ever happened to her in her ENTIRE life. So yes, lol, she was THRILLED.

“Bet it’s the same person who ransacked the dorms,” she explained. “‘Cause whoever it was made a REAL mess, AGAIN. It was TOTALLY a calculated move.” And…. Not to point fingers, buuuuuuuuuuut Kitty was in the play and she didn’t have the lead… So maybe it was out of jealousy. Just sayin.

Zoryn quieted down to let Jessa explain about the howler, since she was the one to open it. That and Zoryn only absorbed one thing from that moment and she pipped up to contribute at the end of Jessa’s explanation, “Which is SO dumb ‘cause Howlers use magic too.” Wasn’t Kitty a Ravenclaw??? You’d think she’d know better. Maybe there were stupid Ravenclaws too. Zoryn would have to ask about it later when she wasn’t so focused on A CRIME SCENE!!!!

Why did both of them have to have such long legs? Zoryn was struggling to keep up, but she was going as fast as her little legs would take her ‘cause she wanted to be AT THE FRONT LINE!!!

"Are you gonna interrogate Kitty?" She forgot to keep this thought to herself. "Can I be there?" The worst he could say was no, right?

While the girls talked, Hirsch held up his wand and silently lit it up. The surrounding area was basked in some bright white lighting, causing him to blink rapidly while his eyes tried to adjust. He was listening to what they were saying, he was, but he was also casting the light here and there to see if there really was anything or anyone else nearby.

Constant vigilance, you know? You couldn't be too careful.

And then they were talking and if he was completely honest with himself, a lot of it sounded very weird. Not in the he-didn't-believe-them way, but in the there's-something-very-fishy-going-on-here way. His brain made a mental note of some very key points that came up in the explanation: the Art Room was ransacked, the girls thought that Kitty was behind it (this, he did not understand), there was a Howler that told them off for using magic (which, Zoryn was right about: Howlers use magic), the Howler left an image of a bird in its ashes. It didn't sound like a random move.

While the girls explained the story, he swiftly walked onwards and in the direction of the Art Room. Maybe seeing the destruction itself would make this less confusing.

Maybe.

Rhibear ~ Madam Solo ~ Dark Brooding Girl ~ Accio Jedi ~ Gryffinclaw ~ Just a doll

It had been a while since Gaston had visited Hrisch's office, but his recent lesson gave him reason to do so. He'd noticed a disheartening change in a certain Ravenvlaw student and thought his colleague might be able give him some advice on how to handle the situation. He approached the office door, levitating two cups of coffee he got from his own coffee bar in front of him - he thought it would help keep the mood as light as possible - and knocked with the hand that wasn't holding his wand.

He made his way to the sofas and took a seat, gazing intently at the mural on the wall as he waited. He always had mixed feelings about that mural. On the one hand, it looked a lot like a scene from the books about knights and dragon's that he loved to read as a child, but it also stirred up memories of a much less pleasant encounter with a dragon from his past. He shook his head and took a sip from the mug of coffee he'd made for himself, hoping to shake the sad thoughts. If he allowed himself to think about that right now, he'd turn into a sniveling mess, and Hirsch did not need to see that!

Zoryn Amari Spinnet was here with some treats to share with her most favoritest best friend EVER. She had gone all the way to the kitchens and asked some elves to help her whip up a mug of coffee and even grabbed some biscuits too. Zoryn Spinnet rarely went out of her way like this for a Professor, but Professor H wasn't just her Professor. He was a friend.

And more than anything, Zoryn really needed one of those right about now.

It was a strange feeling, being sad. Not something that Zoryn often experienced... And when she did, it'd always be pushed away as soon as possible. 'Cause feelings? Gross. Z only liked the good kind of feelings like EXCITEMENT AND HAPPINESS AND ADVENTURE. But all the other stuff was gross, especially sadness.

As she inched closer to the door, the Gryffindor put a smile on her face ('cause the only thing grosser than being sad was when other people knew you were sad) and knock, knock, knocked.

Coffee. He needed coffee.

Yawning, the Defence Professor sat behind his desk, rubbing the bridge of his nose. Everything from the essays he was marking to the reference books he was checking lay scattered across his desk in one large, jumbled mess. It probably wasn’t the best way to get this last bit of marking of the year done but it was the result of the hours he’d spent sitting here. The mess just.... happened.

Just when he’d decided to head down to the kitchens for a cup of coffee - probably with an extra shot or two - there was a knock on his door. Hirsch was halfway up from his seat when he paused and blinked in the direction of the closed door, as if he could see directly through it. He wasn’t expecting any visitors, was he? No. No one had an appointment with him so unless something happened.......

"Come in!" he called, sitting back down again. That coffee could wait and so could this marking.

Leaning back in his seat and looking far too casual, Hirsch was currently scanning the contents of a letter. This letter was one that came every year at this time and consisted of the same messages: updates on his nieces, the latest bit of gossip about his neighbours and the ridiculous questions about when he was going to provide some kids of his own.

But then again, his mum was that ridiculous.

The man was all too glad when something broke through his concentration and gave him an excuse to look away from his mother’s latest pleas, even if it came with the possibility that someone had burnt down one of his Defence rooms. Give him something, anything, to think about that wasn’t as serious as the topics in the letter and he would be happy.

"Come in!"

OOC: IT’S ARIAAAANAAAAAAA I’m sorry to keep you waiting for so long as well! You’re welcome to post in the office thread now ^^
