Hanging in a spot on the second floor is a framed map of Argyllshire. This old, out-dated map features the Scottish county and surrounding areas before they were abolished in 1975. It isn't clear why the map was originally hung up at Hogwarts and many still don't understand why it is still featured in the second-floor corridor today. If anything, it makes for a good conversation starter or an easy-to-find place to meet up with someone.
Even though the map's purpose at Hogwarts isn't clear, you might find looking at it worth your while anyway. The map reflects the weather that is occurring outside -- if it is raining, a thick and dark mass will cloud the map until it clears; the landscape of the map will turn green when bright and sunny; during autumn the landscape changes colour; and the map gradually starts to turn white and freezes the rivers, lakes, and lochs on the map when snow begins to fall outside. When it is nighttime, the colours on the map dim except for where the towns are. Pretty cool, right?
Théo was exploring or you know trying to see if anything was different. Like was this map always here. It looked old and well well it was raining so the map was raining so it was cool. Kind of like the great hall. Théo started staring at it wondering if anything else would happen.
Ok
Maybe you could tell he was really bored and was trying to kill time until he went flying later.

As Joy continued exploring the second floor, she saw a fascinating map. She stepped closer to take a look at it. It changed with the weather outside, and right now it was raining. A perfect day to be indoors, she thought.
She saw a boy nearby, also observing the map. "Hello," she said in a calm voice. Her first-year nerves were wearing off and now she was as cool as a cucumber. "This is an interesting map."
She cringed internally. This is an interesting map? Come on, Joy, that's the best you can do?
"I'm Joy," she continued, trying to make her last statement less awkward. "Joy Williams. I'm a first year, in Hufflepuff."
There. Maybe that wasn't as bad as she thought. She gave the boy a quick friendly smile and then continued to look at the map.
Emmeline was bored. Like mind-numbingly bored... It was raining outside, which meant that she couldn't let her cruppy out of the barn or he'd turn into a mud pie. Which was fun some of the time, but not in the middle of a school day. So the second year had taken up her old habbit of roaming aimlessly around the castle to wait for the rain to stop. It was kind of disappointing that she'd only learned ONE secret about Hogwarts last year, and it was a secret that loads of students knew already. She wasn't sure if it still counted as a secret place, but it did have a portrait guarding it so...?
Her eyes were just starting to glaze over, 'cause even her thoughts were boring, when she spotted Theo! The second year sped up and wandered over to the slightly older boy. She tilted her head to the side a bit to see what he was looking at -- a really old map -- and then did a double take. The map was raining! "Wow," she said softly. After pausing for a few seconds to stare at the map, she remembered her housemate and added, "Hey Theo! How's it going?" Was he bored too?
Almost as soon as the words were out of her mouth, she noticed that a girl around her age was already talking to Theo. She was the most unobservant person EVER sometimes, but she did catch the girl's name, yesss! "Hi Joy! I'm Emmeline," she told the Hufflepuff with a biiiig smile and a hand extended to shake.

Gallivanting Garden Gnomes when was she there! He thought he was the only one looking at this old thing. Maybe he stayed a little too long here. Ah well now it was getting a little awkward. Théo could at least try to not make it more awkward. He thought he was good at that. Ok maybe it was interesting but he wasnt going admit that to a first year he didnt know.
Théo smiled.
"Théo, third year Gryffindor. Nice meet ya"
Not that the house matters he was just use to saying it. And speaking of gryffindors he just heard one. "Oh hi Emmeline" Yeah he was and getting a little more bored as the minutes passed.
"Eh Bored. I was going to fly later if it stopped raining..."
Ah she stopped paying attention. Welll he didnt even need to do introductions for a girl he just met.
Cool Beans
"You guys like this map thing?"
