If Levi Kenning only wanted to marry smart girls then Zoryn Spinnet was gonna be a smart girl!!!!!! And what better way to get smarter fast than through the power of diffusion. Yes. Diffusion.

By scientific definition diffusion is the movement of atoms or molecules from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration. The Ravenclaw Common Room was home to every genius at Hogwarts, and therefore has intelligence in VERY high concentrations.

It was science.

AND to make sure her plan was full-proof Zoryn also borrowed the BIGGEST MOST FATTEST MOST SMARTEST looking book in the ENTIRE Hogwarts library. And so instead of returning back to her own common room to sleep tonight, she opened the giant book and put her head on it as a pillow, while lying across the floor in front of the Ravenclaw Common Room.

When she woke up the next morning, she was gonna be the most intelligent person in all of Hogwarts and Levi Kenning would probably propose on the spot.

Making my way downtown, walking fast, face this path and I'm homebound. Lalalalalala

Noelle hummed in her head and did a little dance in the quiet of the corridors as she did her patrol. She was almost back to the seventh floor, and therefore, could hit her bed afterwards. Good. She was tired. Beyond tired. Sore AND tired.

She needed sleep.

Tonight had been a quiet one. Not much going on. Until she noticed a figure ahead of her.

Noelle's wand was already out, giving some extra light on the dark, quiet corridor. She inched closer to the figure and realized it was Little Z. She was sleeping on one of the biggest books Noelle had ever seen. It was pretty adorable actually.

Stooping low, Noelle tapped her with her lit wand. Just a little tap.

Kalen was making his way down from the Astronomy tower, it was getting late and the librarian was tired! Midnight classes? They were starting to wear on him, not to mention every time a student yawned in his class, he yawned as well. It was getting rather ridiculous.

Sure midnight was the best time to see the stars and all that but Merlin! He was getting old..

Okay so Thirty Three wasn't that old but.. He needed a nap and some tea!

He was casually strolling by the Ravenclaw Common room, something he did often to check on his niece when he saw Miss Spinnet. Asleep. On. One. Of. His. Books!

The librarian nearly had a heart attack, not to mention! It was way past curfew! Thankfully he saw Miss Summers there, trying to be a good Prefect but still.

"Time to wake up Zoryn. " He said as he stopped next to them and looked down st the girl. "Hello Noelle. " He said with a kind smile.

ZZzzzzZZZZzzzzZZZZZZZzzzzzZZZZZZZzzzzz

Zoryn Spinnet was having the most wonderful sleep of all her 13 years of life. Despite the fact that the giant library book wasn't super comfy (luckily her hair helped add fluff) and the floor wasn't as cushy as her usual four poster bed, Zoryn was thriving. Fortunately she had remembered to take a small blanket off her bed for the occasion and in all honesty she needed to do this more often.

Her dreams were filled with Levi Kenning, wedding bells, and many a milkshakes (one shake, two straws, & an extra cherry). What more was there to life? She only occasionally snored and stirred in her sleep, but otherwise went undisturbed.

Even when Noelle gave her a tap, tap. All Zoryn did was SNORE loudly.

It wasn't until the second voice belonging to the librarian was heard, when Zoryn turned around in her sleep and latched on to the mans foot, hugging it close. Oh Levi, I thought you'd never ask.

There were ways to wake up kids. Noelle knew from helping take care of her siblings. The best way, was to gently wake them. If you woke them too fast they were grumpy and Noelle didn't want to have to freeze a student and take them to her room, if necessary.

No response to her tapping. Noelle took her hand and was about to gently (but effectively) shake her awake when another voice came from behind her. Looking up, Noelle saw Mr.. or was it professor now? Professor Kennedy. She expected Little Z to wake up to that.

But... nope.

Instead she did quite the opposite.

Noelle watched with her mouth open and her brows raised as Little Z attached herself to Professor Kennedy's leg and ...... was she talking about Levi??? Oh... Levi was going to be told about this. Heh.

"Zoryn!" She called amused and stooped to try and pull the girl off the professor's leg. Also, a little tickle to her side would help with that... right?

Kalen's eyes got wide as not only did Miss Spinnet not wake up, but she turned and suddenly was using his foot some some sort of snuggle buddy. Surely his leather wingtips did not resemble a Teddy Bear, yeah? The Professor took a deep breath and put a hand on the wall to steady himself.

Breathe Kalen, just breathe. He repeayed to himself in order to keep his frustration down.

He looked over at Noelle for a moment as she tried to wake up Zoryn, he moved his hand up to rub ar his neck a bit and took another deep breath.

"Miss Spinnet! Kindly wake up! " He said with a bit more authority to his voice. He tried not to shake his foot, he didn't want to kick the girl in the face after all. But he did move it ever so slightly, if only to make fully sure he didn't fall over.

"Thanks Miss Summers, but perhaps could you not pull her? I don't want to lose my balance and take all three of us down the stairs. " He said as he moved his hand on the wall, making sure he fully had his balance.

"Zoryn! Wake up now! "

Calling her name again and tickling her didn’t do much aside from make the Gryffindor cling to the librarian’s leg even harder. It wasn’t her fault for being such a heavy sleeper, okay??? She was in the middle of a REM cycle!!! Well, probably. However, it did look like something started working after all because the Gryffindor was finally starting to stir awake.

Was she awake? Yes. Was she confused? Very. Was she aware that she had only been sleeping for a few hours and it actually wasn’t early in the morning? Mmmmm…. Not exactly.

With her eyes WIDE open, Zoryn looked from Professor Kennedy to Gryffinmom!Prefect Noelle back to Professor back to Noelle. Also, it may be helpful to point out that she was still holding on to the man’s leg. The third year wasn’t quite sure where she was at the moment, so she took a couple of seconds to reorient herself. Book under head… Floor under her bum…. Oh. Yes. Ravenclaw tower. And suddenly everything came flooding back. “OMG.” And now she let go of the leg, lifting her upper half forward so that she was sitting on the floor instead of laying on it.

“Did it work????” she asked both of her current companions.

Okay, so maybe tickle!pulling hadn't been the best idea. Noelle could have done a tickle jinx to wake the girl but she figured a good ol' fashion tug would have done the trick. Plus saying her name loudly.

Did it work?
Sorta.

Noelle tilted her head when Little Z started to wake up. She was clearly quite amused. Especially when Little Z realized where she was and what she was doing.

"Did what work?" She asked as she stood and offered a hand to the girl. "I don't know but I do know you need to head to bed. It's way past curfew and you're sleeping on a book." Noelle glanced at Professor Kennedy about that. She looked back to Little Z and mouthed, 'I don't think he would be very appreciative if you got slobber on the book.'

Oh Thank Merlin!

Zoryn was finally waking up, though she still had a hold of his leg, which was problematic, if he was honest. He didn't have the best stance at the moment and he really didn't want to fall over and cause a scene.

Finally her eyes started to open and he looked down at her rather sternly, was she aware that she was sleeping on a book? One of his precious books!! oh also she was out past curfew.. But his book!

Not to mention she still had a hold of his leg.

Kalen's eyebrows nearly rose to the sky as she asked if it worked? Had what worked. The Professor finally managed to get his balance as she let go of his leg, only to find that the limb was fully asleep!

Perfect. The dark haired man rubbed the back of his neck as he balanced on one foot, hoping his leg would wake up soon.

"Well if you were aiming for point loss, then it worked perfectly. Five points from you Miss Spinnet, for sleeping on a book.." He paused.. "As well as being out past curfew. " Priorities..

"Please get up, and go with Miss Summers back to your common room immediately, and give me the book. " He said as he held his hand out for it.

Merlin.. his leg felt like thousands of ants were crawling over it now and he bit his lip and tried not to make a sound..

His first points taken and he was standing on one leg.

Merlin help him.

“Diffusion,” Zoryn answered Noelle without missing a beat. Zoryn didn’t understand what the big deal was. Professor Kennedy was starting to get his angry voice and Zoryn was still very, very groggy and confused.

“Huh?” Point loss? “But it wasn’t past curfew before I fell asleep,” so technically, was she really in the wrong here? Zoryn gave the Professor the most serious look she could muster, whilst trying to resist the urge to rub her eyes. She didn’t deserve the point loss. That was SO unfair. Sleeping outside of the Ravenclaw towers wasn’t anywhere in the rules!!!

AND “Wait. How come I have to give back the book? I checked it out from the library fair and square!! It’s not due for another week!” Zoryn didn’t get up. She was upset.

This was SO uncalled for and to prove her point she was gonna TAKE A STAND. Or uh, take a sit? Because technically, her stand was not standing. YEAH.

But in the end, was all of this worth it? Yes. Yes, it was.

Levi Kenning was worth everything.

Uhhoo. Professor Kennedy was using his professor tone. Noelle's face went from amused to serious. When someone brought that tone of voice out, they meant business.

"Z...' Noelle started to try and get her up and standing but the professor was already taking points. "You are out of your dorm now aren't you? it's past curfew. " Noelle said softly. She didn't want to escalate the situation.

As for the book.

Noelle looked at the professor. Technically, it was his property. He was the librarian. And if he felt that she wasn't taking care of the book properly, he had every right to take the book back. And by Little Z's diffusion... it sounded like she wanted to.... absorb the book? Heh. Noelle bit her cheek to keep her facial expression serious because it was just like Little Z to think she could absorb information from a book while sleeping on it... without reading it.

"Zoryn...' Noelle said, motioning her up. "I think I have some books on diffusion. Actually I have quite a few books. They are in my dorm though. We can look at them tomorrow if you'd like. It's past curfew. " She'd let Professor Kennedy decide what he wanted to do with that book.

Diffusion? Oh Merlin..

Kalen rubbed the back of his neck again all while still balancing on one foot, Fwoopers knew he wanted to seem Professional here but it was hard to do when ones limb was asleep.

And her next words caused him to look at her sharply. Something the Professor didn't do often, he fixed his green eyes on her and kept his tone even but firm. "Regardless of whether it was or not before you fell asleep Miss Spinnet, it seems you came up here with every intention of sleeping in a place that is not your dorm. Therefore, you chose to willingly disobey the rules." He said as he put his foot down and tried to put some weight on it, the less he looked like some awkward flamingo the better. "And willing disobedience deserves point loss." He said as he raised an eyebrow, if she wanted more she could keep arguing with him.

"As for the book, you have shown that you do not know how to take the proper care of books. " He said as he took a breath.

Merlin this was exhausting, he needed a strong cup of tea after this.

"Now get up Miss Spinnet, go with Miss Summers and head back to your common room. Now. Lest I take away your library privileges and dock more points from Gryffindor." He said as he glanced over at Noelle, he had to give her credit, she was trying to help. But Merlin, Zoryn was stubborn.

Gryffindors.

This was a hate crime!!!! Zoryn felt so cheated. This was SOOoooOOOoooooOOOoo unfair. How come all the Professors hated her???? She was SO innocent. Zoryn crossed her arms, in anger. She was highly considering bursting into tears on the spot so that maybe Professor Kennedy would feel bad, give her back her points, and let her sleep in front of the Ravenclaw Common Room undisturbed. However, the Gryffindor was almost entirely sure that this situation had escalated far beyond her realm of control and any theatrics from this point forward wouldn’t be as believable as she would hope they’d be. So with all that in mind, she remained crossing her arms sans-crocodile tears.

The third year crawled on the floor and managed to get herself up. Grabbing her blanket as she did so, she looked up at Prefect Noelle and gave her a very deep pout. How come Noelle wasn’t standing up for her???? Didn’t she see how unfair it was??? It never said ‘don’t sleep in front of the ravenclaw common room with a book’ in the rules! NEVER, ever did it say that!

“This is so unfair,” she huffed. “I don’t want stupid library privileges anyways. The library is stupid and boring.” Also the librarian was a BIG MEANIE PANTS (but she decided to leave that one out). And with that she dropped the big heavy book right on top of the man's foot. Yes, the one that had been asleep only a few moments ago. "Oops."

Looking and speaking directly to Noelle this time, “But I don’t want a book ON diffusion,” she began. “I want a book for diffusion.”

There was a difference.

Okay, could they go now? Zor didn't want to stand here any longer.

Noelle felt like she was watching a fight. Professor Kennedy squaring off with the spunky Little Z.

Poor Z, did she not realize that she was taking on a professor? That was not going to end well. Especially late at night. He was probably already tired. Best to take him on when he wasn't cranky from sleep deprivation.

Her eyebrows raised at what Zoryn said next. Noelle looked at the professor and almost took a step away because insulting the library to a librarian was probably NOT a good thing. That was his domain and he was proud of it. But she didn't. She stayed close to Z. Prefect and all.

"Z..." Noelle started again to hopefully deescalate the situation but then she dropped the book on the man's foot. WHAT IN MERLIN's BEARD Z??

Pulling her wand out, Noelle lifted the heavy book off the man's foot and also looked very apologetic. She let it down and then motioned to Little Z before the situation could escalate any further. "Youcannotjustdropaheavybookonanyonesfoot" she hissed as quietly as she could to her. She loved Z's antics. But there was a limit. And just because you didn't get your way, didn't mean you got to physically harm someone. They really needed to get out of here before something worse happened.

They could talk about this diffusion once in the common room.

Kalen's eyebrows raised a bit as Zoryn stood up to speak and he watched her with impassive green eyes as she insulted not only the place he worked, but what he loved to do. Stupid and boring.

He took a breath, unimpressed with her temper tantrum, she was upset, he got it. After all, how many times had he been in her very spot? He had insulted the Caretaker after getting points taken away for "decorating" the halls with colored paper and sticking charms. He had gotten detention for that one though.

It was worth it. Especially seeing Tris getting stuck to the wall.

Anyways.

He just raised an eyebrow at her as she huffed and puffed, but it wasn't until she dropped his book on his still tingling half numb foot that she managed to get any reaction out of him.

His teeth clenched as he felt not only tingles spread through his leg, but pain blossom in his foot as well. That book was incredibly heavy, and she had dropped it square on his toes.

"Ten points Miss Spinnet, for disrespecting a Professor." He said as he breathed through his teeth. Also for possibly breaking his toes. He nodded at Noelle as she leveitated the hook off of his foot and he grabbed it.

"Thank you Miss Summers. Now please escort Miss Spinnet back to the common room. "

And uhh.. he needed a healer, he was pretty sure toes weren't supposed to hurt that bad.

“It was an accident,” she said looking at Noelle and giving the older girl a shrug. In hindsight, she should’ve payed more attention to her actions and given them some thought first. But it was too late to turn back now and she stood by them 100%. Professor Kennedy totally had it coming anyways. He was A HUGE MEANIE PANTS.

As for the points being taken away, this time Zoryn didn’t fight it. She knew that he wasn’t about to let her off without punishment, ‘cause he took points away for THE STUPIDEST THINGS. Go big or go home though, right? That was Zoryn’s philosophy.

She wasn’t even a bit apologetic for the ordeal either. Making sure to have her blanket in hand, the Gryffindor turned to Noelle, “Worth it,” shrugged and turned to head towards the Gryffindor Common Room.

She was kinda upset with Noelle too, after all. How come her Prefect didn’t even try to defend her!?!?!?

Oh merlin.

At least Z wasn't fighting anymore. She was willing to leave. Not that she seemed too bothered about the points being taken away. 15 points in one sitting?? Come on Professor. She was only a second year.

Noelle ushered Little Z away and back to the common room. She stayed quiet but had to admit that Little Z had some big... courage. It wasn't often that students throw big heavy books on professors feet.
