| | |  Ancient Runes Lesson 2 - There Is Strength in Uruz
After a month of nothing but grey clouds and rainfall, the sunlight shimmering through the windows is bound to be a pleasant sight as you make your way down the corridors. April showers truly did bring May flowers, and it also gave the headmistress a valid excuse to hold Ancient Runes outside rather than keep everyone cooped within the walls of the castle. Getting a satisfying amount of fresh air and soaking up some ultraviolet rays was important after all, especially when final exams were just around the corner.
Exams are probably the last things on your mind, however. Perhaps a more pressing matter is at the forefront of your mind, such as wondering why today's lesson was being held at the training grounds on the north side of the castle. Anyone who knew Hogwarts well enough would know that there really wasn't much to this spacious area -- the ground was flat, the grass was always cut short, and there were some rather uninteresting ruins scattered about. Boring, right? If that is your mind-set going into this lesson, then you just might find yourself surprised.
The moment you open the door of the tower and step outside into the pleasant weather, you find that you are not able to see much of the training grounds at all. Right before you tall green hedges, standing over ten feet in height and stretching far to the left and far to the right, await. In the centre of this spectacle is an opening just screaming to be ran through, but you are unable to cross the threshold because Headmistress Hawthorne, as if on cue, steps out, now blocking the entrance, with her wand held at her side and a twinkle in her eye.
"Gather over here, everyone," she says, beckoning everyone to move forward and stand in the semi-circle area outside the hedges. "Also, take out your rune sets. There is one rune in particular that we will need today." No more was said, leaving everyone to pull out their bag of runes, try looking past the woman with the hope of glimpsing something, and wonder what the lesson was going to be about.
OOC: Take note that this is NOT the second Ancient Runes lesson your character has had with the headmistress this term. Also, please familiarize yourself with the classroom rules before posting. "It's an opportunity for discovery. Where's your imagination, Patrick?" Honestly. Jessa glanced briefly to the First Year who'd joined them. "Think of all the experiments we could get up to--or, or just observation. That's fine too." She quickly added at the end as blue eyes drifted back to her bestfriend laying flat on the ground just next to her the way he was. She supposed getting a reaction out of him would've been a good idea but....not the bad kind that would leave him freaking out.
The Ravenclaw was noticeably pleased at her friend's quick thinking that got him back to his feet but this quickly turned to apprehension when she realized his spell worked a little too well.
Derf could sometimes be....questionable with his spells. The fact he was now hyped up on a cheering charm made her all the more skeptical that he would be able to effectively subdue the pogrebin without some form of horrid side effect that would either leave him crying or her otherwise regretting it. Asking Patrick to help too did very little to instill confidence.
The next second moved by so slowly, as if the slow button had been hit on her life but she was in no position to stop it.
"Derf, no!" She yelled, but in the next second everything went black.
Derfael Mitchell Ashburry-Hawthorne had successfully managed to cast the stunning spell but his aim was the issue here. The once excited Ravenclaw now fell to the floor, no longer conscious of the world around her.

"JESSA JESSA JESSA! DID YOU SEE! IT WORKED!" he chirped at his unconscious friend - who obviously HAD seen but, you know. It took about half a second later for him to realize that the Ravenclaw had been knocked out, but the Hufflepuff was FAR too PLEASED about himself and his accomplishment (especially with a 'S' spell) to really be all that fazed by it. "OH THANK YOU JESSA! THIS MAKES HIM EVEN EASIER TO HIT NOW!" Since, you know, there was only ONE moving target. "READY, PATRICK! WE'LL GET HIM FOR SURE WITH OUT POWERS COMBINED!" he griiiiiiiiiiiined at the younger Slytherin.
Checking his rune again to make sure that it was still glowing - OH JOYOUS DAYS, IT WAS! LIKE A PHOENIX ON BURN DAY IT WAS GLOWING! - Derf readied his wand again at the pogrebin.
"STUPEFY!"

Patrick looked at Derf as he applied the Stupefy spell the first time hitting the girl ”Uh, that doesn’t look good.” He looked from the girl he now understood to be Jessa from the name Derf said. He began to ready his rune, “u u u u u u u u u, u u u u u r r r r r, u u u u u, Uruz Uruz Uruz, u u u u u u , u u u r r r r r, u u u u u u , uruz uruz uruz, u u u u u u , u u u r r r r, u u u “ he mumbled under his breath.
His rune began to light orange as he watched Derf move about, his nerves were getting the best of him. Aparatently they didn’t remember what happened in DADA when he was dangling on a ledge. ”I guess I’m ready if you are.” He readied his wand and yelled the spell with Derf
STUPEFY!” He closed his eyes after he had pointed his wand and said the spell. He was afraid he might have hit Jessa a second time.
He cracked an eye open, ”did we do it Derf?”

He was really trying to not do anything, because that was the best way around everything. Soon though he heard people and knew he was going to have to show his face in the maze. So he moved towards the area, but stayed back not to be hit by any spells and watched. They seemed to be doing well on their own.
He moved a bit closer hopefully just to get around them as they were distracting the thing. This might be easier than he had planned, but just in case he would need them maybe he should try something.
He pulled out his wand, but watched still.
Nope they had this, he didn't need to do a thing.
