The doors to the restricted section were wide open and several charmed orbs of light were overhead, making the normally dark section ablaze with light..

Kalen was rummaging through the section, pulling books out here and there and muttering to himself as he did so.. Ever since he'd been back from break, the librarian had been trying to keep himself busy, he needed to keep his mind distracted lest he start dwelling on certain things..

And one of those tasks he had given himself? Reorganizing the Restricted section!!

"A goes before D! Ugh.. what were those former librarians thinking?" Kalen grumbled to himself as he worked..

The restricted section was not often a place of... animation, or light for that matter- Aslan Evans would know, she lived and breathed in this library since she'd first step foot through the doors of Hogwarts and in all that time she had only ever seen it occupied by the former librarian once, back when they'd had... What had it been that year? The dolls and Miffy-

No, the Hag. The one who'd fawned over James Draper and tried to eat a student or two. She'd forgotten all about that term.

Aslan walked over and leaned against a bookcase, watching the Librarian silently.

Kalen pulled a book off the shelf and turned to look around towards the entrance, still muttering to himself about organization. His green eyes glanced upwards and he was mildly surprised to see a student leaning there watching him.

Though it wasn't often that they restricted section was open.. He was almost wondering if any other kids would be showing up, but so far it seemed like it was just the one.

"Hello Miss Evans. " He said with a smile in the seventh years direction. "I'm just organizing. " He explained.. well he was mostly trying to keep his mind busy.. but that was a good enough explanation.. Librarians didn't need to have troubles, yeah?

"You are welcome to come in and browse if you want? "

Yes, entrance to the restricted section.. wasn't he cool? Or maybe lame? Ehh..

Aslan nodded in greeting. She didn't speak immediately, she was curious to watch the librarian and hear just what he thought he was doing.

However, that curiosity died as soon as he offered her a chance into the restricted section. Not a minute passed before Aslan was slipping past Kennedy and into the throngs of books. Her eyes were everywhere, eating up each tome with the kind of hunger seen more commonly in ravenous animals rather.

She reached out, fingers slipping down the spine of a particularly nasty looking leather book. The title was faded, only silver specks remained and Aslan Evans was trembling with excitement. Cool or not, Aslan wasn't the witch to ask for she cared not ether way. "Can I borrow this?" She said, barely showing the stained cover to the sitting librarian. Impulse made her ask, and she had a strong feeling the answer might just be yes.

Kalen watched as Miss Evans quickly slipped past him and into the usually forbidden restricted section, his green eyes curiously watched her as she seemed to look at all the book in there almost hungrily..

He sighed to himself, he didn't want to have this section here anymore.. he wanted to blend the less dangerous books into the library, put the rare ones in a special section where they could only be used in the library, and take the super dangerous books out and lock them up..

Knowledge should be for everyone.. and it shouldn't be locked up and guarded like this..

Not sure how well that was going to go over though with.. anyone.. he was going to try though..

He looked at the book she picked out and then smiled as she asked if she could borrow it..

"You may borrow that, just bring it back in a week.." He said as he gestured around the section.. "Any of these you can take.. " He said with a nod, "Just try not to burn the school down, yeah? And perhaps don't take the screaming ones? " Who knew what sort of effect that could have on people.

Aslan was practically vibrating. With a curt, anxious nod she turned away from the librarian and began to meticulously pluck book after book from the once-forbidden shelves. She had no qualms, no reservations as she went down the aisle. A red stained hardcover- a navy blue tome with gilded pages- a yellowed manuscript, cover worn by time- a simple black paperback with a rune she didn't recognize on the first page- the Gryffindor barely had the arms to carry this many.

Except she didn't have to, she remembered with a look of self-irritation. Aslan set the books down on the nearest eye-level shelf and tugged her wand from behind the cuff of her ear. A swish and flick later and the books were a levitating bundle all too happy to follow her. Momentarily, the witch glanced back to Kennedy. He was a gray man, someone she hadn't yet seen enough of to begin to understand, but the hues around him were a strange mix of blue, indigo and slate grey- slate grey like pencil shavings and pale rain clouds.

"Why not the screaming ones." She asked, although her impassive tone made it seem very unlike a question.

Kalen didn't say much as he watched Miss Evans take down book after book. He made a mental note of the titles as she did so.. making sure he would remember which ones she had so he could get them back if he needed too. He wasn't worried about her though..

His green eyes were slightly pensive though as he watched her.. All students should be able to study all books.. and his eyes scanned around the section, wondering why this had to stay like this..

He stayed in his leaned position on a bookshelf as he watched her levitate her books with her wand, that was the next spell he was trying to practice wandless, seeing as its one he used often..

Her question to him had the Librarian inwardly smiling but he gave no outward appearance of his amusement. "The screaming ones tend to drive people insane, I don't think the students would appreciate that." There was a hint of a smile on Kalens face now as he said that. While that would make an excellent plot for a book, or whatever else people used plots for.. He was joking.

"I haven't gone through the screaming ones yet. " He said with a nod. "I wanted to see if they would stop screaming, and if any Charms would work on them." He nodded over to a pile of tomes that sat on the floor of the section, near the entrance.. "Once I examine them. You can have at them. " Assuming they were safe and he wasn't mad..

promising, but Aslan was used to promises and how easily.... grown ups? no, she was a grown up now. 18, even. but the point remained, the feeling remained- promises were rarely kept. Watchful now, Aslan let her eyes swallow up the librarian.

"How do I know you aren't just saying that." simply says, head tilting so hair dark hair swept across her back like a smooth black wave. she wanted more than a promise and perhaps that might have seemed impatient but aslan was anything but.

Kalen turned fully to look at Aslan as she spoke to him and he moved from his leaning position to stand fully in front of her. "I don't make it a habit Miss Evans to say things that I don't mean.. however.." Kalen looked around for a moment and then grabbed a spare bit of parchment as well as a quill and started to write on it..

Stating that not only does she have access to the Restricted Section whenever she so desires, but has all rights to the screaming books, once I am finished making sure they are safe.

He took the note and handed it to her, and nodded. "There, as long as you have that. You have my word I will not go back on what I promised, " He said with a smile as he made a duplicate of the note. "So I'll have one too. "
