Default Potions Lesson #2- Healing potions

Ciara had added as much lighting to the room. She had been working all term to brighten it up and feel more like a classroom then a dungeon prison. She had always felt that the dungeons felt more like a prison than anything. The door were open to let the students come on in.

The classroom was nice and warm this morning. Heating charms were in place and as well as a fireplace behind Professor’s Canterbury’s desk. The Professor was sitting at her desk, writing down so last minute note’s for today’s lesson. Next her desk was a chalkboard with a message:

The workstation was the same as always four workstations at each table. At each workstation was something under a sheet. What could it be?

OOC: Please make sure you're familiar with Professor Canterbury’s rules as well as the SS site rules before posting. Thank you for attending. This lesson will start in a little over 24 hours time.

Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite

OH LOOK HENRY!! Jessa smiled widely at the boy when he took the seat next to her, not at all minding. He was one of the nicer older students and he'd indulged her with video games when she didn't know a thing of what she was doing.

Stasya and Emmeline got smiles and small waves too but shortly after she found herself utterly distracted by the Professor's perplexing answer. So much so that she could scarcely respond to the one Stasya had asked. Couldn't tell her because it would essentially ruin the surprise....? She had a syllabus...why was her education still meant to be a surprise....?

Jessa blinked a few times, possibly more unsettled than she'd been with the bright lights. "I....suppose so..................." She replied blandly, casting her gaze to the sheet again. The Ravenclaw couldn't help but wonder if when the sheet was revealed it would be something worth the secret the Professor insisted on keeping it. Anticlimactic reveals were always nothing shy of a disappointment after having abated her curiosity for so long.

For now....nothing more to do than respond to her question and keep her mind off whatever this was. Healing potions can go horribly wrong when done incorrectly, leaving you more sick than whatever had you ill in the first place." Precision--like with all other potions--but this one was directly related to your health and had to be taken super seriously. She would know.

Was Cameron the only one in this entire classroom NOT obsessing over what was under that sheet?

Huh.

Honestly, he WAS curious but not curious enough to break the professor's rule. That would be such a dumb reason to lose points or get in trouble. So for now he chose to pointedly ignore the sheet of paper and focus on the lesson. Healing Potions. Hm. Interesting. When one of the younger girls (Emmaline) mentioned chocolate he grinned in her general direction. That was very true.

Chocolate helped in a LOT of dire situations.

Okay. But what else did he know about Healing Potions? "They should primarily be used by healers?" Cameron suggested after raising his hand."By someone who knows what they're doing." Otherwise, like Jessa had suggested, things could go horribly wrong.

Stasya, Jessa, Derf, and Emmeline all got smiles and waves before the lesson started. Isa had seated herself near where Jessa was sitting. Potions wasn't Isa's best subject, but she put effort into learning and trying to do well in the class. Were they going to find out what was under the sheet soon?

Oh, healing potions? Isa didn't actually know that much about healing potions, but she did know that healing potions were for healing as the name suggested, so that gave her a clue as to what healing potions might specifically be used for. Beyond that she didn't really know anything about the properties of healing potions or whatever else there was to know about healing potions. "Healing potions can reverse the effects of curses, cure illnesses, and heal wounds. Some potions like pepperup potion you have to drink, and some potions like burn healing paste you just apply on your skin. Dittany is very powerful for healing wounds, so maybe dittany would be used in a potion for healing wounds." So there were probably different kinds of healing potions? Hopefully they would be learning more about healing potions in a minute.

Isa looked over at Jessa and listened to what Jessa was saying about healing potions. Jessa was really good with healing stuff, probably because she was always doing some crazy experiment that often ended in injury. Sounded like Jessa knew what she was talking about. Knowing Jessa, the Ravenclaw had probably learned a lot about what happened when magic went erong firsthand.

Samantha is nothing, if not stubborn. Even after all these months, the fifth year had a small block of cheese sitting on her table. Honestly, she couldn't explain why she still insisted on bringing it to class everytime, because she knew Professor Newton wasn't coming back, and Professor Canterbury wasn't so terrible. She poked at it in an effort to not no peak under the sheet.

Oh, but they were talking healing potions? Well, for one thing that made her even more curious about what was under that sheet, but she raised her hand. “There are tons of different types, right? I mean, things for all sorts of mundane injuries, and then stuff to help with like Dragon Pox and stuff, right? Then there's Skele-grow, which makes bones regrow, which I bet has something with calcium in it like eggshells or something.” There had to be hundreds and hundreds of diffrent types of potions healers use. "Is there a certain type of base they usually use?"

Healing potions? Hmm. Unlike the other kids, he harbored absolutely no curiosity about what was under the sheet, so the fifth year was free to concentrate. His hand was the first in the air. "Mandrake root is used in a lot of healing potions, isn't it, ma'am? I know it contributes a lot to antidotes."

Ciara smiled ”Yes mandrake root is a common ingredient in many healing potions. Very good!”

Mimicking her friend, Liv settled in, immediately moving to get out her potions journal and a plain quill. With this subject, it was a little different, as these things needed to be precise and free from wild interpretations. Alas, when working with exact measurements...

"Dittany, as well." She was nodding at Nicky's answer. They'd done something similar with Healer Reed the previous year with talking about general healing methods. "It's a restorative and helps with inflammation." Which was basically just her fancy, smancy way of saying 'infection'. "Also, Healer Reed had us work with Murtlap last term. It's more of a household remedy when in the form of 'Murtlap Essence'.... And...most healing potions have a low number of ingredients, which makes them more organic, I think." That was just her opinion.

”Definitely. Dittany helps with inflammation and Murtlap Essence is a commonly used remedy, Excellent.” She nodded to the gryffindor.

Mel’s eyes flicked over to her seatmate and lab partner for the day as if questioning why he looked so groggy…did he skip breakfast or something? She would obviously swing by the kitchens after class with him if they had the time.

Awwww booooooo.

Professor Canterbury wasn’t willing to give away the lesson plan of the day that was well…kind of normal but she STILL wanted to know what was going on with the sheet. Mel had Given Professor Canterbury the quietest of hellos when she had entered the classroom that it was no wonder she hadn’t responded to her. It had been Mel’s fault for speaking so quietly and now, now lessons were starting.

Glancing around Melbourne raised her hand and waiting to be called upon. ”Linfred of Stinchcombe is the inventor of many a healing potion including the recipe that is used for Skele-Gro which if I’m not mistaken has known poisonous ingredients in it such as Puffer-Fish which are a part of the Tetraodontidae family they were also discovered by a French muggle biologist and ornithologist Charles Bonaparte in 1832…which is roughly six hungred years after the invention of Skele-Gro by Stinchcombe…” yep. Nerd.

She was entirely a nerd and had been paying attention in her history of magic lessons for OWLs training and had found that lovely jewel of knowledge. So…wizards had found the Puffer-Fish LONG before the Muggles.

”Very good, Miss Sorin-Ward.” Skele-gro knowledgeable person she was. She got a nod.

It only bothered her more because what if that thing actually was alive?

But then they were moving on to the actual lesson. It was a good thing that the topic was interesting, because then Vivian gave up on the sheet at the mention of 'healing potions'. She felt she was at an advantage since she had both parents as Healers. Naturally, she knew quite a lot, watching and observing her parents brew home remedies and those normal Healer stuff, but didn't want to sound like a total know-it-all. The Slytherin listened and nodded as her other classmates shared their thoughts for a while, and then ultimately raised her hand. "Professor, bezoars are used as an antidote, mostly for poisons. It's used in the actual potion, but it can also simply be shoved down the patient's throat in times of emergency." And her mum had a few of those at home, too. Yup, Baby Fairfield liked to pay unauthorised visits to the little potions brewing room at home. Nobody tell her parents.

”Yes, bezoars are in antidotes to common poisons. They do come it handy if you keep one handy.” She did. She smiled at the girl. ”Good answer.

Not really?? WHAT WAS IT, PROFESSOR???????

...... As for the question....

She had an answer included some obvious things like the fact that they were used to make people feel better when they're sick or that the hospital wing had plenty of them...

But her mind was occupied with BIGGER AND BETTER THINGS.

Like what could possibly be under this sheet?????

Apparently someone was too interested in what was over the sheet….. Okay moving on….

Even if it turned out to be wrong, she tried. That should matter.

"Uh.. the pepper-up potion is a healing potion, isn't it? It helps relieve cold or cold induced symptoms. It's supposed to have a side-effect of causing steam to come out of the ears, though." Funny, wasn't it? She'd never tried it though. Maybe the next time she had a cold.. "It's ingredients are bicorn horn and mandrake root.. I think."

[b]”Yes, it is. Pepper-up potion helps to relive cold symptoms.”[‘/b] She smiled excitedly at the Hufflepuff perfect.

They were talking about healing potions. As someone who had a father and sister working as a healer, she should know this. Some students had mentioned the common ones so she thought to mention something else. "I think Sleeping draught can be considered as healing potion, Professor. Because people take that potion to cure insomnia." She said as she raised her hand.

This was a very good answer she liked it. ”Great answer, it is.”

SPOILER!!: Emmeline

She had taken her usual seat at Jessa and Stasya's table and given both of them, plus Henry, big smiles in greeting. She was super distracted by this sheet-covered thing. The starkly white sheets weren't helping her eyes adjust to the weird brightness of the room either. Glancing furtively up at the professor, Emmeline quickly poked the sheet thing to see if she could tell what sort of thing it was. It seemed that poking it was super unhelpful, though. She couldn't even really tell what it felt like from just a poke. She'd been about to investigate with more touching when the professor had started talking about healing potions.

Wow, some of the older kids knew a LOT about healing potions it seemed. She was officially impressed, not that she'd really paid much attention to what they were actually saying. Someone had already mentioned pepper-up potions and that was the only specific one the first year knew about.

Wait wait, did chocolate count? It was kind of like a solid, frozen potion maybe. The first year raised her hand and replied: "Chocolate has super special healing powers when you feel sad. If you melted it, you'd have a potion to feel happy!" Okay, so maybe that wasn't the best answer (or even a good one), but she'd tried. Potions was her absolute WORST subject anyway, and Nanny had told her all about the chocolate thing.

As much as she loved Ava’s answer this answer was even better. Ciara smile widely. ”I definitely agree with your answer, chocolate can cure anything.” She added with a small laugh.

SPOILER!!: Derf

The ones that were totally safe...unless combined. Because then BOOM would happen. So TECHNICALLY speaking those had been dangerous...

Wait...someone had mentioned murtlaps!

But he hadn't exactly caught in what capacity they had been...wait no. Murtlaps...potions...murtlap ESSENCE...soothing painful cuts and abrasions, and helps them to heal...HEALING POTIONS?!

Blinking and looking around the classroom a moment, the Hufflepuff DID temporarily abandon his grip on the sheet to listen to what others were saying. So he HAD been able to figure out they were talking about healing potions! And that was kinda all the thinking he wanted to do on the subject. Okay no he had something to say.

"Ashwinder eggs-s-s!" he chirped after he was called on. "WHOLE ones-s."

They were talking ingredients, right? Uuuuuuuuuuuuuh...

Back to Zoryn though. "Pssssst...wouldn't it be NEAT if there were ashwinder eggs-s under here?!"

”Whole asherwinder eggs, very good.” she smiled extra widely at him.

SPOILER!!: Skylar

What was under the sheet? Unlike her classmates, the fourth year had been curious about it, but not enough to dare taking a sneak peek. She had other things on her mind. Like why did the Potions Mistress think that brightening the dungeons was a good idea? Was the woman so naive as to not realize that dungeons were meant to be dank? Clearly the woman was not a Slytherin, although, if Skylar was being honest, she was almost sure the woman hadn't even attended this school.

And the lesson was starting... with what they knew about healing potions. Would it be wrong of her to admit that they contained water? But that was like a FIRST YEAR answer and she was definitely not a first year, which meant she could and should be able to include something more intuitive. Considering a first year mentioned chocolate. Bezoar was another good mention.

Perhaps she shouldn't talk about specifics of potion ingredients though, but something else.

"Antidotes, Professor. Antidotes are healing potions, in theory, as they reverse the effects of potions, particularly important if they are poisonous potions."

Nodding. ”Yes, antidotes are healing potions, for that reason. Reversing the effects of poisons.” Very good answer indeed.

”There are many many different types of healing potions. For many alignments, injuries, illnesses, and so on.” Now they were getting closer and closer to the reveal of the lesson. Now these guys could stop poking sheets. Well maybe….

”Alright everyone you all had some really great answers. You really know your healing potions. Today will be covering a few healing potions for ourselves. Now for the moment you all have been, some more than have been waiting for. Remove your sheets.” She paused long enough to let them remove the sheets and take real good look. Under the sheets were dummies, like the dummy patients that first year healers practiced on. She had borrowed them from Rodrick, and made them into the student’s patients.

She moved to the center of the room, and got everyone attention for the next part. ”In front of are dummies. They will be your patients for the remainder of the lesson each one is charmed with some alignment that I want you to first identify now. I’ve charmed them at random with either Bad case of the boils, Fever, Flu, a minor Burn, Missing or broken bones or a case of acne. Go ahead and try to figure out what is aligning your patient. Some will be more obvious than others.”

OOC: Hey guys I spend most of my day with my internet out. I’ve got it back now so we’re all good. You guys can pick out what alignment your dummy has between what is listed above. I’m going to give a little more than 24 hours to post there’s no post limit. Just have your character figure their patient’s problem. As always you can poke me for any questions, and have fun.

Zoryn was STILL trying to figure out the sheet-secret when she heard Derf give an answer to the Professor's question. He was SOOOOOO smart. Always had answers for EVERYTHING. Zoryn gave him a BIG THUMBS UP in regards to his answer. Especially since it was super right, the Professor said so!!!

"Suuuuuper neat! Maybe we're growing baby ashwinders!" she stage whispered back to him in reply.... Not knowing exactly what growing baby ashwinders would have to do with potions, but it'd definitely be SO MUCH more fun than anything they've ever done in this class before. MHM.

Mention of the surprise under their sheets called her attention back to the front of the classroom, when the Professor said they could peek. AHHH THIS WAS SO EXCITING!!! This was gonna be so cool!! She already picked her ashwinder's name out AND EVERYTHING!!!!

The second year enthusiastically whipped the sheet right off of the dummy and--

Wait. What. Dummies?

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww ;__; she was SO looking forward to the ashwinders though!!! (Even though she really didn't know what those were) (it just SOUNDED cool) (she was SUPPOSED TO BE A MOTHER!!!) Alas.

Her dummy though... It looked gross. "Uh, you don't look so good," she said giving it a POKE. Could they work in pairs? 'Cause.... those boils on her dummy looked SUPER intimidating. How was she supposed to cure boils???????

We'd like to trade for a baby ashwinder, please!

Healing potions…

Useful batches of potions for sure and while Cassie moved to answer the professor’s questions on the knowledge about them that came to mind, the Ravenclaw found she hadn’t anything additional to add to what was already being said. So she listened and took notes, making sure what Professor Canterbury confirmed as the truth was included over anything else. Now she, and the rest of the students, would have to see just what information went with whatever potions were being included in the assortment they were going to be taught during the lesson.

But first…her sheet.

Cassie removed the one in front of her as directed, the action revealing the dummy before her. It took some inspection, but finally found a burn on the one side of the dummy. A relief…meaning she wasn’t going to have to try and decipher what was wrong internally. Guess she was to be brewing a burn healing potion or something similar if she caught the drift of why they were given different dummies.

Melbourne grinned when Professor Canterbury commented on the information she had brought up. Heh, yep this was good right? Now what were they going to do today and WHAT was under the blanket…wait. What? DUMMIES?

Mel’s eyes flicked toward the blanket on her workstation and then back toward Professor Canterbury almost immediately. Wait…they were fixing the dummies alignments? Had someone like twisted the vertebrae on the dummies out of order…or…had she just misheard the Professor?

Her eyes flicked upward as she watched Zoryn remove her blanket off of her…wait…boil covered dummy. Well, well this was going to be a fun class now wasn’t it…curing what had to be the ailments of magical dummies. The one question was did they talk?

Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite

Isa received a smile when she acknowledged her but really, Jessa was all ears for where this conversation was going. As it turned out, sick dummies. Alright, fine, she would admit she wasn't disappointed this go but she dared say she'd have been more excited if she'd known from the very beginning what this would be about. Suffice to say Jessa would have been the FIRST person here.

Healing dummies was pretty cool and a welcomed reprieve from having to practice healing on herself. Of course she knew that all experiments came with risks and she was willing, but every chance to practice on something else was sure to gain her attention.

Having removed the sheet, it became apparent that her dummy had no acne nor did it have any boils. That ruled out two of the most obvious. A simple touch to his forehead revealed nothing out of the ordinary which ruled out fever too. Huh. This was looking more promising by the second! The Ravenclaw reached for his hand, ready to check the underside for any visible burns when she noted how....er.....floppy it felt. Kinda like....a sack of meat without anything really holding it in place.

Fascinating.

Was she meant to tell the Professor or was this a surprise too? The young girl remained silent, flopping the hand this way and that while she idly wondered what it must have felt like.

....Something to look into later.

The second year was only half paying attention to the other answers in class outside of his own, but when his answered earned him THAT smile he just KNEW he was on to something. So naturally he glanced over at Zoryn ALL grinning and eager like because NAILED IT!

"THAT means we have s-s-stuff to make a magical fire under here!" he squealed softly to the Gryffindor. "Caus-se, you know, they riiiiiiis-se from the embers-s dying fires-s-s and slither off into dark corners-s-s ... When the signal was made to remove the sheet, Derf was ALMOST in competition with Zoryn to remove it from their station, but her hands were quicker. Probably because the Hufflepuff was still stuck a tiny bit in his dizzy daydream about ashwinders slithering around the dungeon corridors.

...........a dummy?

It was obvious that he was crestfallen. Without a doubt.

At least the dummy on their station was incredibly easy to identify? Boils. No doubt about that.

"Well...we obvious-s-sly need a cure for boils-s-s," he stated to Zoryn as he grabbed his textbook and began flipping idly through the pages.

Healing potions, how interesting.

No, it really was interesting - but the problem was, Katherine was so, so, so tired and she already knew the content - summer studying and all. She just wanted to sleep and sleep for a long time, but that was impossible and her sleep was usually disturbed with nightmares anyway. Her brain's favourite subject was 1001 different ways to fail OWLs. She was so fed up with all.

Just a few more months, and it'll be over. Except it wouldn't, because NEWTs loomed over, and then university, and then more challenges at work life, and then...

She didn't even bother to answer the questions, but boredly removed the sheet. She held the doll and the problem was pretty obvious: poor thing's leg bone was missing. She dropped it back on the table, and found the page of the suitable potion. She knew it by heart, but her brain was slightly foggy today.

Man. Zoryn was super bummed as well. It's not that she didn't want to be working on a cure for boils with Derf. She just, uh, she wanted to be working on raising baby ashwinders with him. It would've been soooooooooo cool. Except now that they didn't have any eggs, she wasn't exactly sure how they'd make that happen.

So instead, she let out a small sigh and watched as Derf began flipping through his textbook. "Good idea," she nodded, making a grab for her own (it was SO heavy). Boils. Boils. Boils. Where was the section on boils?????

At least Derf was lots of fun AND he was smart too. They were gonna be the BEST potions partners ever!!!!!! It was only fair. If all the older kids were gonna do the same assignment, then second year + second year kinda equaled a fourth year (sort of). LOGIC.

Was there an index in this thing?

SUMMER FOREVER

Etta was starting to find the subject of healing potions more and more interesting. Even if she practically knew next to nothing when it came to the subject.. injuries, healing spells, potions.. except what Healer Reed had taught in seminars before, this was an opportunity to learn.. right? Trying to focus more, she listened to what the professor said. Time to take off the sheet then! She quickly whipped it off.. a dummy?? Uh. Why a dummy? She'd honestly expected something just a tad bit more exciting but okay. Anyway.

.. but the second she started to examine the dummy, it was obvious that it was a case of acne. Uh. Well, interesting. Now that she needed a cure.. the girl opened her textbook and flipped through the pages slowly. So, were they going to be learning to heal all the ailments that the professor mentioned? Or only a selective few? She kept turning the pages, occasionally taking notes on her parchment.

Let your light shine || Be the sun || You're important. Always.

Noelle had been here alllllll along. She was tucked away in back, quiet, due to personal reasons. She had started out in first year hating potions. Now, it was one of her favorite classes. It wasn't DADA or Transfiguration, but it was up there.

She'd wanted to see what was under the sheet. She poked at it, trying to decipher what it was. Would it move? But it didn't. The instructions didn't say they couldn't poke the sheet. But then the professor was speaking.

Healing potions. "Theres bruise paste?" One she used a lot of actually. But Noelle just bought it instead of making it. Easier that way.

YES THEY COULD REMOVE THE SHEETS!

Noelle promptly moved the sheet off and was staring at a dummy. Hmm. She looked back at the professor and saw that they were supposed to find what was wrong with it. Okay. She was definitely not a healer or any sorts. Umm... Looking at her dummy, she leaned forward to whisper to it. As if it could hear. "Hey there Mr. D. Sorry to inform you but you got the short end of the stick. I am no healer. But... one thing you should know is... I will figure you out. So any secrets you're hiding. Cough them up." Because talking to dummies was normal.

Next, Noelle started poking the dummy. She didn't see any burns or broken bones. But then.... She noticed something. Where there should have been a bone in his leg... the long one.. there wasn't. Huh. "I think I found my dummy's problem. It's missing his leg bone."

Well, it WAS about healing potions and magic. Vivian knew quite enough from her parents, who were both Healers by profession. It was an advantage, she believed. The topic itself was interesting, too, so she was all ears for the lesson.

AAHHHHH, they were finally allowed to uncover what was underneath the sheet. Vivian enthusiastically bounced on her seat and pulled the sheet in front of her to reveal... a DUMMY. The Slytherin blinked and wondered if she had been in the wrong class all along, because she was 100% sure these were the ones they used in Defense Against the Dark Arts. Of course, whatever was Professor Crush's property, she would definitely know. Typical Vivian.

"Ewwwwwww." The words escaped the Slytherin's mouth without any kind of filtering. It had a TERRIBLE case of acne on his face. That was like... a teenager's worst nightmare!

There are many different types of healing potions. For many alignments, injuries, illnesses, and so on.

Today Vivienne was going to learn about personal healing potions. She removed her sheet from the table. She had waited for this.

She was going to be taking care of... dummies? Her dummy had a bad case of the boils so she had to give him/her the Boil-Cure Potion. How exciting and intriguing!

"Oooooooh...what about...Boil BURS-STING Unction," he suggested as he scooted his seat over closer to his friend and slid the book in front of her. Yeah, there was a cure potion but this one POPPED them and that was way more interesting than just curing them. Probably. "I think a Boil Cure Potion jus-s-st makes them disappear...like...fade away kinda disappear." His eyes quickly scanned over the ingredients list and, well, he was even more sold on the first option. No creature ingredients AND it look MUCH simpler to brew which meant that MAYBE he could actually finish a potion.

For once.

Ah, so they were all going to be to be making different types of healing potions depending on what their dummy had? Glancing curiously at Professor Canterbury when she mentioned about removing the sheets, she was rather intrigued because she wondered how closely related these dummies were to the ones that Brent and his fellow competitors dealt with in the first task? Charmed at random with a mysterious ailment, which while those dummies from the forest didn't have an ailment, they were charmed.

Hesitantly, she removed her sheet and froze. Not because it was disgusting what she saw, but because she didn't see anything remotely wrong. No boils, like others had. No acne, which was good because bubotuber pus smelled awful, that and she kind of had this fear of acne like every other teenager. No broken bones. No burns. Physically, her dummy looked completely fine. Which only left one option: flu. Or fever. Or both, since usually they went hand in hand. Using the back of her hand, she reached up to feel its head, which was weird in itself, because, dummy. And there was a definite warmth radiating from the fake person's head.

Which meant what? She had to brew a pepperup potion? Was there another potion that would help when your only ailment was a virus? She had to admit, muggles were disadvantaged in not being able to take potions to cure just about anything, including viruses. Also, could she contract the virus from a dummy? Not wanting to risk it, the fourth year flicked her wand to conjure the bubblehead charm around her head. Best be safe than sorry, while working around ailments. Now was it time to brew or did she have to wait for something else? She busied her time with flicking through her potions textbook to see if there was something else she ought to brew instead of a pepperup potion.

OOOH this was actually kind of interesting. Kane smiled and hopped up as soon as the professor told them too, grabbing his dummy from under his desk. Everyone around him seemed to have some REALLLLLLLY cool ailments, he could hardly wait to see what he had!

He pulled off the sheet and saw...ACNE. Lots of acne. Yuck. Kane had a few zits here and there but nothing like THIS. It even had some on it's BACK. Grosssss! Although, this remedy might actually come in handy sometime in the future, if his face decided to turn on him at any point in the next few years.

Melbourne removed the sheet from her dummy and began carefully examining it. Sure, she knew that some of the bones in the body were incredibly small so if the poor thing were missing bones in its skull then…well, there was a possibility they would goo missed…wait, what if it were something more serious? She considered before putting her gloves on.

”Professor, is there a chance ours may have more than one ailment?” she asked one gloveless hand had been raised into the air with ease and now as her question was asked she lowered it and pulled the glove onto her hand. Still even so, she didn’t bother to wait for Professor Canterbury’s answer as she began to examine the Dummy’s skull. Her fingers gliding over the frontal bones of the Dummy’s skull as she felt for any missing sections.

She then traced her fingers up the sides of the temporal bones and both sides of the skull at the same time. Each time her fingers brushed a new section her quick quotes quill was ready to etch out the notes she was going to need to take next. While it was obvious to her that the poor thing didn’t have Acne, obviously whatever her dummy had was far more serious than pus filled pustules on the face. After thoroughly examining the dummy’s skull and cervix – no not that, the neck you numpty. She had determined that there were no issues with the bones in the poor distressed things skull or in those regions.

Now, she needed to examine the inside of the poor things mouth. Perhaps a tongue depressor and a little bit of light would come a long way in finding if the tonsils were, you know…inflamed or whatever the word was that described when they were oooooooooh so painful and flu-y. ”accio tongue depressor” she muttered as she conjured what likely was one of Healer Reed’s many tongue depressors and carefully F O R C E D the dummy’s mouth open by pinching her fingers against the jaw and lightly tugging. Really, if the dummy were a person it would have probably been protesting at her nagging fingers. With a swift move she pressed the wooden stick against the dummy’s mouth and with her wand in one hand cast lumos into it’s mouth.

Ah…the poor things throat looked sore and well, rather unhappy. It was then, as she had the tongue depressor in its mouth that it happened, the wheezing cough the dummy was emitting wasn’t even half of the problem.. The worst of it was when the acrid stench of bile wafted up through its mouth.

Nope.

Nope. Ew…vomit was bubbling up the Dummy’s throat and with a swift move Melbourne had turned her dummy over so that the nauseating contents of the things magical stomach didn’t asphyxiate it.. She had heard of those stories from Thunder and Dustin when she was a kid, don’t leave someone on their back if their…something the words were foggily there in her brain but the idea of not letting the thing she was trying to cure die was at the forefront of her mind. ”So…looks like you have the flu? Possibly.” Melbourne shrugged and brushed her hands over the dummy’s head and nodded. Yep. There was a bit of a fever, poor thing was probably in pain and aching. She remembered how it had felt when she had caught the flu over winter break the year before. Totally not cute. She had looked like a swamp monster. With a quick wave of her wand and quietly muttered evanesco she had cleaned and banished the vomit from the dummy’s mouth and with another flick she had scourgify’d every other bit of nasty off of its poor body and blanket.. Sitting her dummy up she wrapped the blanket around the thing and proceeded to clean off her hands…right…was this thing muggleborn? Or muggle? She didn’t know.

Still opening her textbook she flipped to the recipe on Vaxifloo.

Still, what happened if this were black cat flu? There wasn’t anything in their textbooks about the cure for black cat flu! With her eyebrows knitting together the Gryffindor started to get to work.

Well that was incredibly unhelpful. Frowning, Sam looked at her cheese and sighed. It was days like today that made her unhappy, and miss her former head of house. Shrugging slightly at her thoughts, she raised the sheet when told. “Well thats something you don't see every day.” she murmured to herself looking at the little dummy. Really, this was, for the lack of a better word, creepy, like stuff of nightmares. What was it with this school and unsettling things like that? Though admittedly ill dummy's were pretty far down on the list of nightmarish things Hogwarts had to offer. She had to wonder though, if these were just smaller versions of the dummies used in the IMPS competition earlier. If so, she did not want this thing talking to her.

Glancing around the room for a moment, Samantha took in the others and their examinations of their dummies. Well, it didn't look like she really needed to spend a bunch of time poking or prodding her dummy, his little body seemed to be scorched red from a burn of some sort. “Yeah, Frank,” she said looking at him, and naming him on the spot. “You got burned pretty badly, didn't you?”

Ciara had given them plenty of time now to figure out what was wrong with their dummy. She had been walking around, answering questions. She stopped next to Mel’s desk as she answered, ”I don’t think so, it should be only one ailment.” One per dummy, in fact she was sure there was only one for each dummy.

Alright now it was time to let them start working on their potions. She moved back to the front of the classroom. ”I’m sure by now you all are flipping through your textbook looking for the potion to cure your dummy. So if you haven't already go ahead and find the potion that cures the dummy, there are many variations to a few of them you can choose which one you too, I’m going to give you enough to time to work on it right now. So go ahead and get started once you finish your potion, you will need to take vials label with your name and potion along with your year and house. Hold on to the second one because you are going to test it out for the next part of the lesson before the end.”

OOC: Go ahead and have your character brew the potion they think will help cure the dummy patient. You will have until Thursday June 29 at 11:00 PM EST to complete the potion. We move on after that testing out the potions on the dummies. If you haven’t posted yet feel free to jump, or catch up you have plenty of time to do so.

For once.

AHA! Boil curing potions. Zoryn landed her finger right on the page before turning her attention to Derf. "OooooOOOoooooh boil bursting?" That sounded like a really, really terrible AWESOME IDEA!!! She beamed and slammed her own textbook shut, pushing it aside to make room for his. Following Derf's suit, Zoryn scooted her own seat closer to the Hufflepuff too.

"Bursting sounds like more fun," she nodded. "Let's do this one." It had been decided. There was NO turning back. They weren't just gonna make boils disappear, they were gonna BURST THEM. It was gonna be E P I C !

One gallon of water
A handful of sage
A stalk of aloe vera
Calendulas (enough to make 3 tbs)

Instructions:
Fill Cauldron with water
Bring it to a boil
Chop and add the handful of sage
Add the stalk of aloe vera to your cauldrons and steep them for 10 minutes
Crush the calendula and add three teaspoons of it
Stir thirteen times clockwise
Turn up the heat and simmer the potion til it thickens and turns brown
Cool it to room temperature
She ran her finger down the list of ingredients... "I'll get supplies," except for 'a handful' wasn't a very good measurement. What if someone had REALLY big hands? Or reaaaaaally tiny hands, like Zoryn? Would that make a difference? The Gryffindor wasn't sure, but why the heck would she ask the Professor when they could just do it and see what happened!??! That'd be more fun.

And with that she hopped off her seat and bounced her way towards the shelves where all the potion things were kept, her hair bouncing along behind her. After a few short minutes, she returned releasing all the things from her arms and straight onto the table-top. So many things!! The likes of which were a measuring cup, sage, aloe vera, and what she was somewhat sure were calendulas.

Really? There was only one ailment?

Vivienne flipped through her textbook to the page where the Boil-Cure Potion was located. She went ahead and got to work on the potion. After she finished brewing it she grabbed the vials that had her name on them and her year and house. She was going to test it so she was quite anxious.

Text Cut: Boil Cure Potion

He KNEW he could count on Zoryn to be on the same page as him. Ever since they had both fallen out of that boat they were DESTINED to be friends, you know? Maybe not exactly the two peas in a pod sort of thing like he and Abey - although things had been WEIRD there since the cruise party - but still super good friends!

"OKAY! I'll s-start on the potion," he nodded. Because the first two steps were something he could handle. Probably. He still wasn't so good with Cleaning Charms though and he had seen LOADS of that during the second task...so it only seemed right that he do one now....only the incantation was kinda hard for him to say. Um...he was just going to turn the cauldron upside down first and hit the bottom of it to get any dust and stuff out...yeeeeeeeees...

Turning the cauldron right side up again, Derf cleared his throat and as CLEARLY as possible attempted to conjure water. "AguAMenTI!" He produced water alright...a bit TOO much and the blast sent water in every which direction - mostly back at himself and drenching his robes as though he had just taken a dip in the lake again. But HEY! At least he had got water into the cauldron, right?!

Grinning to himself despite resembling a wet crup, he BEAMED at Zoryn when she returned with all their ingredients. "TADA! Water." OH WAIT! Pointing his wand at the burner. "INCENDIO!" Oh...that was...a lot of FIRE. UM UM UM! Turning the heat down a little, Derf glanced over his shoulder a bit sheepishly at Zoryn. "...and fire."

TADA?
