Ciara had added as much lighting to the room. She had been working all term to brighten it up and feel more like a classroom then a dungeon prison. She had always felt that the dungeons felt more like a prison than anything. The door were open to let the students come on in.
The classroom was nice and warm this morning. Heating charms were in place and as well as a fireplace behind Professor’s Canterbury’s desk. The Professor was sitting at her desk, writing down so last minute note’s for today’s lesson. Next her desk was a chalkboard with a message:

The workstation was the same as always four workstations at each table. At each workstation was something under a sheet. What could it be?
OOC: Please make sure you're familiar with Professor Canterbury’s rules as well as the SS site rules before posting. Thank you for attending. This lesson will start in a little over 24 hours time.
The room was really bright for Vivienne. Usually, Potions was dark and mucky-looking. She wanted it to look like a prison, not a happy place. Vivienne crawled in slowly so she could someone if they were behind a desk or whatever. No one stood chances with Vivienne! Never!
It so warm and cozy in the Potions dungeon. There was no need for heavy sweaters/cloaks. All she need was rain gear and a hat. She loved the heating charms put in place by Professor Canterbury. It made her feel more at home/should she say relaxed. Vivienne sat down and started taking notes. Notes were important in her eyes.

She sat and waited for her friends to arrive. She got told by Canterbury not to look under the sheet so she didn't. She thought what it might be though...

Holy Merlin alive, why was it so bright in here?
Jessa hesitated a moment at the door, peering in to see whether the Professor had brewed some sunshine in a bottle or something because THIS was not the typical look of the dungeon, not at all. The Ravenclaw blinked a few times, having walked through the dungeons in the dim light as she had, the sudden brightness was a little jarring to say the least and she wasn't sure how she felt about it just yet.
Dungeons weren't bright. That sorta defeated half the purpose of them.
"Hello Professor." She greeted, moving to her usual workstation. Were it not for the sign on the board, she'd have immediately checked whatever might have been under the white sheet. Such a lucky thing she'd caught a glimpse of it just as her fingers tugged at the corners of the sheet. Curiosity was a hell of a thing to possess when you were told you would have to ignore it for now.
Her hand rose. "Since we aren't meant to look under the sheet, can you tell me what it is?"
Yes she assumed it was meant to be a surprise for some big reveal later (which never made sense to the young girl, this was a lesson not a game show) but she just REALLY wanted to know now. The longer she remained in suspense was the more she fidgeted with the sheet she wasn't meant to look under.
Was there a spell that helped you see through fabric without being detected? Would Derf know?
Was whatever was under there light sensitive? That would explain both the bright lights (for demonstration) and the sheet (to protect it til the demonstration). Huh. Now she wanted to know even more. Perhaps she would have to stop thinking about it altogether.

O____o SO BRIGHT.
It's a good thing Zoryn was ALWAYS prepared. Reaching into her tiny backpack, she pulled out a pair of flashy sunglasses. Aha. Was she being a little dramatic? Why of course.
"What's up, Professor C!?!" The extra heat and brighter room made it a lot easier to sort ofwant to be in class today. Though potions wasn't really something that'd help her much in the real world.... So she didn't exactly feel keen on this particular lesson.
WHAT WAS UNDER THE SHEET? HOW COME THEY COULDN'T LOOK?
The board said they couldn't look under it... But it said absolutely nothing about poking it and feeling it. The first year took this as a 'go ahead' to sit at her workstation and poke at the hidden object. Hmmmmm.... Maybe she could get the general shape of it??? How come all the Professors kept everything a secret?

Was it just him or was it even brighter than usual in here? Not that Henry minded so much, but the classroom seemed to get gradually brighter as the year wore on. And he couldn't exactly put his finger on it, but it somehow made the atmosphere in here different.
"Hi, Professor," he greeted her cheerfully as he walked past, adding a smile for good measure, and looking to find a seat. He chose to sit at Jessa Cambridge's table. Even though she was a few years younger than him, he knew she at least seemed very bright and Potions was not exactly his best subject. He could definitely do with sitting next to Potions-smart people and hopefully nothing would distract him too terribly today.
"Hi, Jessa," he smiled at the Ravenclaw, his attention soon turning to the sheet clearly covering something at the table. "Oh.. what is that?" he asked no one in particular. Sure, he saw the directions on the board not to look, but one could not help to be curious when such a thing was basically thrust in his face.

Kirk descended down to the dungeons once again for Potions. It wasn't as drab and dark as it use to be for one, as his eyes first took notice. He was a feeling a bit groggy, but not badly enough to not look presentable. "Hello Professor." He spoke as he entered before taking a workstation to stay at.
There was something under the sheet. Kirk looked up at the board to read it before his face went blank. He wasn't that interested in the sheet until he was told not to look under it. Instructions like that seemed to peak his curiosity, enough to listen as Jessa questioned it. Could he duplicate the sheet to make a cozy blanket if they couldn't at least peek inside it? He waited with the others until then.

Potions still wasn’t one of Stasya’s favorite subjects, just due to potion ingredients and having to use creature parts. She still made her way down to the dungeons as usual before the next lesson was set to begin. Maybe it was just optimism, that one day they wouldn’t have to use creature parts for the assigned potion and she wouldn’t want to protest. Plus, she definitely didn’t dislike Professor Canterbury. It wasn’t her fault the subject she taught was evil.
She had to blink several times as she had walked into the classroom, though. Since when had it been so bright in here? She couldn’t remember it being so bright before, and she had turned to look back out at the corridor to make sure she was still in the dungeons. Still dim and dreary out there in the corridor, which only made the lightness in the room that much weirder. She realized her eyes had adjusted though, so after that moment she’d walked further into the classroom, giving the professor a smile. “Hi Professor Canterbury,” she added, even as she saw where she wanted to sit.
Henry and Jessa were at the same table. It just meant she had to go over there. Even if she didn’t like Potions, she could sit with some of her favorite people. Slipping into one of the remaining chairs at the table, she gave them a grin. “Hi!,” she said brightly, eyeing the sheet covered whatever at the workstations in front of them. “What do you think’s under there?”

Potions...was not the second year's best subject. It was kinda somewhere in the middle ish as far as subjects went because it required WAY too much focus to get through a potion and precision. At least that had been what he had observed from the task. So much CLEANING too. He was sure he hadn't done that much cleaning in lessons before aaaaaaaaand he still wasn't so good with Cleaning Charms so he was likely not able to do it even if they were asked.
OOOOOOOOOH CLOTH?! What was under it?!
Offering the professor a chipper wave as he sped through the door and towards an empty seat, he was PLEASED to see who he had JUST SO HAPPENED to sit next to.

"How about...you tug down on one s-side and me the other s-so we can get the cloth all tight and maybe s-see the s-shape better?" Because they just couldn't look UNDER the cloth but they could touch it and stuff...which seemed to be what Zoryn was thinking TOO. Great minds.

Shay was looking forward to her Potions lesson today. She always enjoyed brewing things and wondered what the class would be tackling this time. When she entered the classroom, she was momentarily taken aback. It was definitely brighter than usual and it took a moment for her eyes to adjust to the shock.
"Hello Professor", Shay said, trying not to squint. Thank Merlin the room was nice and warm. Given the precedent set by her other professors, she was afraid they'd be brewing some potion out by the lake. Mercifully, that was not the case. Shay went over to her workstation and sat down. Then she began to set up her equipment for the lesson.

This class was the WORST. Nicky didn't have a knack for cooking (which was what he considered making potions to be), and he didn't like that a single mistake could cost him his life. But by this point in his schooling, with his low level of expertise, that was the case with most subjects.
"Good morning, Professor Canterbury," the Hufflepuff greeted as he entered the blinding classroom. Merlin, what had she done with the place? Little beads of sweat were already forming on the back of Nicholas' neck due to the added heat, and he was squinting like crazy. He probably seemed ill.
Disgruntled, as usual, he made his way to a seat.

You couldn't just make Olly sit down in front of a sheet and tell him he wasn't allowed to look under it. That was just mean. It was practically torture. Sure, he wouldn't look under it because that's what the rules said and he didn't want to get in trouble. But he wanted to really bad. And he was dying. He leaned real close and rest his head on his hands. His eyes were fixed on the sheet and he wasn't likely to stop staring anytime soon. Not until the mysterious contents were revealed.

And the next class was pretty much just a waltz from her common room. Vivian particularly liked Potions for this main reason. Even when she decided to leave her dorm five minutes before class began, she didn't have a single doubt that she'd be late. However, she wasn't going to risk so here she was, just a few seconds away from the Slytherin common room, where she came from.
"Good morning, Professor," Vivian greeted and made her way to her normal seat. HMMMM... that sheet was odd and it caught her eye immediately. Also, it sparked her curiosity, but the note specifically said not to look under it. But... ugh. She really wanted to know. The Slytherin sort of had a staring contest with the sheet until looking at the Professor again. "What's under it, Professor? Pardon my curiosity, but it's bothering me." She'd rather know from the woman herself if attempting to remove the sheet would cause any funny business. Best stay on the safe zone.

POTIONS!!! Always say YES to Potions!
Ahem, Olivia had arrived. In better spirits than she'd been in weeks, the blonde confidently sashayed into the bright classroom; her school bag resting high on her shoulder. An important decision had been made, you see. SO IMPORTANT...and it'd left her feeling lighter than she had in months. It was actually terribly simple, and when the answer had come to her, Liv had felt quite stupid for not thinking of it sooner.
What would be would be.
That was it. Something so small and uncomplicated in it's design, but powerful.

"Shove over, Tate." Being the girl she was, Olivia spotted her Potions!challenged friend and made an approach. Today, Nicky would be working with her and he'd get the best potions grade he'd ever received..... to, you know, make up for the incinerated ice sculpture. Nah, he wasn't mad at her for it, but...Well, she'd still felt terrible. As Olivias will do.
"Professor Canterbury! I'm loving the extra lighting." Yep, new day, new Liv.

With the door open the students started rolling it, the first of them was Vivi, Ciara looked up as the Ravenclaw girl went to take her seat. Without a word she started taking note? Maybe. Who knew. Ciara went back to add one more thing to her parchment.

So far this lesson was a Ravenclaw invasion though she was never surprised to see Ravenclaws be the ones first through the classroom doors. As the year progressed Ciara had gotten a bit more comfortable with names, and remembering them. ”Hello, Miss Cambridge.”
Ciara got needing something from off of her shelf. When Miss Cambridge ask her about what was under the sheet. Walking past a empty workstation she lifted the sheet just enough for herself to see. ” I’m pretty sure if I told you right now. It would giveaway the whole point of the lesson.” She put the sheet back over.

I think it makes it easier to do see what you are doing.” After your eyes got adjusted to them. And seeing what you were doing was also important in brewing potions.
Okay that was it time to start.
She decided that it was time to start and she would leave the door open for the lesson. She rose up from behind her desk. ”Good morning everyone! Welcome to today’s potions lessons. I am sure you are all curious about what is under the sheet. You will find out very soon. But first I want to hear what you all know about Healing potions. Anything you know about them would be great contribution to the lesson.” She walked around to the front of her desk.
OOC: Thanks for coming! Class has officially started so please keep the chatter to a minimum. And if you haven't posted your charrie in here and want to, please feel free to jump right in and pretend as though they've been here the entire time. You're more than welcome to have your charrie make things up/guess as well I will be moving the class along again in roughly 24 hours.

As Olivia instructed, the Hufflepuff 'shoved over' gladly to make room for her. Merlin, he was saved! She could make their entire potion, right? Right?
Relief evident on his face, which was far less clammy now thanks to his healthy distance from the fireplace, Nicky withdrew some parchment and a quill from his bag. He always hoped notes would assist him in this class (they never did).
Healing potions? Hmm. Unlike the other kids, he harbored absolutely no curiosity about what was under the sheet, so the fifth year was free to concentrate. His hand was the first in the air. "Mandrake root is used in a lot of healing potions, isn't it, ma'am? I know it contributes a lot to antidotes."

Nicholas Tate, please. Look, Olivia didn't have all the answers, but...she was great at faking confidence and that was basically where most of her academic success had come from. So... yep, he could absolutely think that. Besides, he was way more precise with his preparation. That was half the battle, amright?
Mimicking her friend, Liv settled in, immediately moving to get out her potions journal and a plain quill. With this subject, it was a little different, as these things needed to be precise and free from wild interpretations. Alas, when working with exact measurements...
"Dittany, as well." She was nodding at Nicky's answer. They'd done something similar with Healer Reed the previous year with talking about general healing methods. "It's a restorative and helps with inflammation." Which was basically just her fancy, smancy way of saying 'infection'. "Also, Healer Reed had us work with Murtlap last term. It's more of a household remedy when in the form of 'Murtlap Essence'.... And...most healing potions have a low number of ingredients, which makes them more organic, I think." That was just her opinion.

Melbourne’s fingers were itching to lift up the sheet from the moment she saw the board. Why did they mention not being able to look under it? The sign just made her WANT to look under it even more so. When Jessa asked about the sheet Mel just grinned because yep, that was sooooooo something she would have asked herself. Mel’s eyes flicked over to her seatmate and lab partner for the day as if questioning why he looked so groggy…did he skip breakfast or something? She would obviously swing by the kitchens after class with him if they had the time.
Awwww booooooo.
Professor Canterbury wasn’t willing to give away the lesson plan of the day that was well…kind of normal but she STILL wanted to know what was going on with the sheet. Mel had Given Professor Canterbury the quietest of hellos when she had entered the classroom that it was no wonder she hadn’t responded to her. It had been Mel’s fault for speaking so quietly and now, now lessons were starting.
Glancing around Melbourne raised her hand and waiting to be called upon. ”Linfred of Stinchcombe is the inventor of many a healing potion including the recipe that is used for Skele-Gro which if I’m not mistaken has known poisonous ingredients in it such as Puffer-Fish which are a part of the Tetraodontidae family they were also discovered by a French muggle biologist and ornithologist Charles Bonaparte in 1832…which is roughly six hungred years after the invention of Skele-Gro by Stinchcombe…” yep. Nerd.
She was entirely a nerd and had been paying attention in her history of magic lessons for OWLs training and had found that lovely jewel of knowledge. So…wizards had found the Puffer-Fish LONG before the Muggles.

Vivienne was curious about what was under the sheet Professor Canterbury handed out. She would have to wait. Vivienne told the professor what she knew about the Pepperup Potion which was the antidote to the common cold.

Ail in good time? Vivian pouted at the Professor's response and then proceeded to hold the staring contest again with the sheet. Her hands were itching to lift it, since the woman's answer didn't really satisfy her curiosity. What exactly does the element of surprise offer to the lessons? Because, to Vivian, not much. It only bothered her more because what if that thing actually was alive?
But then they were moving on to the actual lesson. It was a good thing that the topic was interesting, because then Vivian gave up on the sheet at the mention of 'healing potions'. She felt she was at an advantage since she had both parents as Healers. Naturally, she knew quite a lot, watching and observing her parents brew home remedies and those normal Healer stuff, but didn't want to sound like a total know-it-all. The Slytherin listened and nodded as her other classmates shared their thoughts for a while, and then ultimately raised her hand. "Professor, bezoars are used as an antidote, mostly for poisons. It's used in the actual potion, but it can also simply be shoved down the patient's throat in times of emergency." And her mum had a few of those at home, too. Yup, Baby Fairfield liked to pay unauthorised visits to the little potions brewing room at home. Nobody tell her parents.

DERF!!!! Zoryn BEAMED at her friend, instantly relieved that she wouldn't have to suffer through this lesson alone. That would've been a real TRAVESTY. She nodded at his proposal, glad he was just as curious as she was. "Good idea," HEHE great minds, INDEED. She tugged on her side, trying to see if she could tell the objects shape... But.... Eh. Not really?? WHAT WAS IT, PROFESSOR???????
...... As for the question....
She had an answer included some obvious things like the fact that they were used to make people feel better when they're sick or that the hospital wing had plenty of them...
But her mind was occupied with BIGGER AND BETTER THINGS.
Like what could possibly be under this sheet?????

Healing potions... hm. Interesting. Admittedly, Etta didn't know too much about it. Why would she anyway, though? When she visited the hospital wing when she was not feeling too good? But it did help to know more about it so.. she considered the question for a long moment before raising a hesitant hand. Might as well attempt an answer, yeah? Even if it turned out to be wrong, she tried. That should matter.
"Uh.. the pepper-up potion is a healing potion, isn't it? It helps relieve cold or cold induced symptoms. It's supposed to have a side-effect of causing steam to come out of the ears, though." Funny, wasn't it? She'd never tried it though. Maybe the next time she had a cold.. "It's ingredients are bicorn horn and mandrake root.. I think."

As Professor Cantebury started the lesson, the Gryffindor listened to her words and tried not to be distracted by what's under the sheet and why on earth the classroom was so bright today. Well, Ava didn't really mind the light but still.. too much light would kill her eyesight.
They were talking about healing potions. As someone who had a father and sister working as a healer, she should know this. Some students had mentioned the common ones so she thought to mention something else. "I think Sleeping draught can be considered as healing potion, Professor. Because people take that potion to cure insomnia." She said as she raised her hand.

The new brightness of the Potions classroom was definitely a shock to Emmeline's eyes. She had given the professor a smile and a wave when she'd first entered the room, but most of her attention had gone straight to the sheet. Why couldn't they look at it now?
She had taken her usual seat at Jessa and Stasya's table and given both of them, plus Henry, big smiles in greeting. She was super distracted by this sheet-covered thing. The starkly white sheets weren't helping her eyes adjust to the weird brightness of the room either. Glancing furtively up at the professor, Emmeline quickly poked the sheet thing to see if she could tell what sort of thing it was. It seemed that poking it was super unhelpful, though. She couldn't even really tell what it felt like from just a poke. She'd been about to investigate with more touching when the professor had started talking about healing potions.
Wow, some of the older kids knew a LOT about healing potions it seemed. She was officially impressed, not that she'd really paid much attention to what they were actually saying. Someone had already mentioned pepper-up potions and that was the only specific one the first year knew about.
Wait wait, did chocolate count? It was kind of like a solid, frozen potion maybe. The first year raised her hand and replied: "Chocolate has super special healing powers when you feel sad. If you melted it, you'd have a potion to feel happy!" Okay, so maybe that wasn't the best answer (or even a good one), but she'd tried. Potions was her absolute WORST subject anyway, and Nanny had told her all about the chocolate thing.

Class had started and Derf was only halfway paying attention to things because he, like Zoryn, had his attention primarily on the sheet and what was under it. Tugging firmly on his side as well and trying his best to assess what the professor was hiding, Derf was briefly reminded of him and Jessa taste testing the two vials that had been on their stations. The ones that were totally safe...unless combined. Because then BOOM would happen. So TECHNICALLY speaking those had been dangerous...
Wait...someone had mentioned murtlaps!
But he hadn't exactly caught in what capacity they had been...wait no. Murtlaps...potions...murtlap ESSENCE...soothing painful cuts and abrasions, and helps them to heal...HEALING POTIONS?!
Blinking and looking around the classroom a moment, the Hufflepuff DID temporarily abandon his grip on the sheet to listen to what others were saying. So he HAD been able to figure out they were talking about healing potions! And that was kinda all the thinking he wanted to do on the subject. Okay no he had something to say.
"Ashwinder eggs-s-s!" he chirped after he was called on. "WHOLE ones-s."
They were talking ingredients, right? Uuuuuuuuuuuuuh...
Back to Zoryn though. "Pssssst...wouldn't it be NEAT if there were ashwinder eggs-s under here?!"

Potions was one of those classes which held Skylar's interest; not because she was stellar at it, but because it allowed her to actually do things, more then simply learning the theory.
What was under the sheet? Unlike her classmates, the fourth year had been curious about it, but not enough to dare taking a sneak peek. She had other things on her mind. Like why did the Potions Mistress think that brightening the dungeons was a good idea? Was the woman so naive as to not realize that dungeons were meant to be dank? Clearly the woman was not a Slytherin, although, if Skylar was being honest, she was almost sure the woman hadn't even attended this school.
And the lesson was starting... with what they knew about healing potions. Would it be wrong of her to admit that they contained water? But that was like a FIRST YEAR answer and she was definitely not a first year, which meant she could and should be able to include something more intuitive. Considering a first year mentioned chocolate. Bezoar was another good mention.
Perhaps she shouldn't talk about specifics of potion ingredients though, but something else.
"Antidotes, Professor. Antidotes are healing potions, in theory, as they reverse the effects of potions, particularly important if they are poisonous potions."
