The normal greenish glow of the dungeons seem to glow a bit brighter today as if it was reflecting some of the sunlight from outside somehow. The classroom is a comfortable even for the September weather. The workstations are sat up in their normal way four people per table, not that it was relevant to the lesson today. Labs coats, were hanging right as you walk in, if you wanted one they were there. On workstation was a parchment, quill, and two vitals one has a clear liquid and the other has a white sandy dust substance in the other. They will find out what was in them soon enough.
Professor Canterbury had the doors wide open. Standing near the door slipped on her own lab coat and walked around the classroom. Checking to see it was all ready to go and that each spot had what was needed for the lesson. She moved back behind her desk and to took a seat as she waited for the students to come in. Come right on in and take a seat the lesson be being getting started
OOC: Please make sure you're familiar with Professor Canterbury’s rules as well as the SS site rules before posting. Please remember this IC this is not the first lesson of the term. Class will continue in a little over 24 hours time (May 6 around 9am EST) Thanks for coming! Class has officially started so please keep the chatting to a minimum. If you haven't posted your charrie in here and want to, please feel free to jump right in and pretend as though they've been here the entire time.

Derf was okay, and that had helped Stasya relax a little. Granted, there was still the whole part of the lesson where they’d been discussing using creature body parts and everything else that had made her uneasy, but at least her friend was okay. It also meant her note wasn’t really necessary, but that didn’t really matter since the lesson had continued. She believed that the pearl dust would’ve made her question appear. She’d seen it work on the others’ notes at her table after all. So instead, s he was just going to focus on the lesson.
Except, she wasn’t really sure about the spells part. She’d seen Noelle use her wand to fill her own cauldron, but she didn’t know if she ought to try it or use some other way of filling her cauldron. Either way, first she tried to clean it. At least she knew that spell, even if she hadn’t really tried it too much before now. “Scourgify,” she said as confidently as she could, pointing her wand inside her cauldron and watching it be cleaned. It was just after that when she wasn’t quite as sure, so she spent a few minutes writing down the information about the potion first.

Potion should be silvery-white color.
Add the remaining moth wing.
Place the cheese cloth over your cauldron and leave it there for 5 minutes
Notes
Effects last up to an hour before it wears off.
Can be used for up to three hours a day
For stronger effects substitute two demiguise hairs for the tincture, three hours instead of one.
Silvery-white in color
Can be used on any object, effects last longer on non living things, just one drop
Can be used for invisible ink, use pearl dust to reveal
Her quill had paused at the mention of moth wings, bringing back that uneasy feeling. She was just going to have to pretend it was something else. Either that, or pretend that the moths had already been dead before the wings had been pulled off. At least she didn’t have to actually do that. In any case, the notes were finished so now it was back to figuring out the potion, which was made a lot easier when she saw another boy go fill his cauldron with a faucet. It meant she could work on the water charm later, and she picked her cauldron up and went over to fill hers halfway like the notes had said.
Except there was still the question of how she was going to light a fire under her cauldron now that she’d gotten it back to her table.

Kyle looked over to the girl who seemed a little puzzled after managing to fill her cauldron the way he had. He watched her a moment, expecting her to light a fire any minute. When that didn't happen, he made his way over. "The spell is incendio. Here, watch." He pulled out his wand and cast at the burner under the cauldron. "Incendio!" Immediately a fire started up. He adjusted the flame for her to make sure it wouldn't over-boil the water. "You just kind of use your wand and will the flame once it's started, okay? If you need help extinguishing it, let me know."

Still making BIG pleading eyes at Jessa, Derf kind-of-sort-of forgot to breathe and was only reminded of this necessity when she DID speak and really only started breathing properly when she was saying sorry. Although he wasn't sure what she was sorry for because she hadn't thrown up on anyone. Her smile did make him feel a little bit better though. Even if he could only shrug in response to her question because he did not have a clue.
"I'm s-s-sorry I ruined your drawing," he pouted. "Bet it was brilliant." Because everything Jessa did was pretty brilliant, you know?
Accepting the water from the professor with a faint smile, Derf quickly drank it all in one gulp and set the empty glass on his table. Attention back on Jessa once instructions were given, he watched as she filled her cauldron with water AND got them both all of their supplies. "Can...you do that for me too?" he asked, pointing to his own cauldron. "I'm no s-s-so good at that s-spell yet..." And he really did not want to make ANOTHER mess. Although at least he could use his robes to mop up the water.
But...he probably should scribble down the instructions on the board, right? Right. Thus, quill in hand, he began doing so...but not without commentary to Jessa, naturally.
"Oh we can share a shrivel fig," he noted as he wrote. The glitter was...confusing to him though. "What do you think glitter does-s-s?" he asked his best friend. "Thought glitter made you sparkle...what is glitter made from anyway?" His eyes continued to scan down the list. "What do you think happens if you have dried s-summer leaves-s-s instead of fall? Or winter!? Do you think we can only brew this-s-s potion in fall? Fall leaves-s-s and all?" He really WAS writing as he spoke...just unfiltered questions because Jessa always indulged his curiosity and her his. "Fall is-s-s an important season for loads-s-s of creatures you know." Down the list he went...scribbling away. "Think we need two s-s-scoops of the pearl dus-st too?" he asked Jessa again. Some people had used more of it than he had - he had actually used NONE so really...everyone had more gone from their vials than he had. "...is a chees-se cloth REALLY made from chees-se?"
Ingredients list finally written down on his parchment, Derf figured he could at least prep their shrivel fig since they got to share. Silver knife out, he caaaaaaaaaaaarefully cut it in half and plopped one part on Jessa's side of their workstation. Eyes back on the instructions, he really needed to have his cauldron filled half with water before he could do anything else....
Although he could TRY and cast Incendio...maybe. Maybe not.
"Jessa...can you do Incendio on my burner too...please?" he asked with BIG pleading eyes.
Oh wait! Derf quickly reached for the half a shrivel fig that he had given Jessa and cut that in half again - since the instructions had said to. Wait...was that right? Erm... Repeating the cut on his own - yay for shrivel fig slices? - he returned the half a shrivel fig to Jessa...in two pieces.

Still undecided about if she wanted to try the spell she’d heard others at her table cast or if she needed to find another way to light the flame under her cauldron, Stasya jumped a little when she suddenly heard a voice coming from beside her. Looking over, she was even more surprised when she saw it was the boy that she’d watched fill his own cauldron the Muggle way, like she’d done following his lead. If anything, she just hadn’t expected help to come from him, but she beamed at him anyway. “Thanks!,” she said, quieting down to listen as he’d gone on to instruct her about the spell even as he’d lit the fire for her. That didn’t seem hard at all.
“Okay,” she said once he’d finished speaking. At least now her water could boil, and she knew someone who could help her if Noelle or the others didn’t. “I’m Stasya.” Just because it seemed right to at least introduce herself now he’d helped her.

He smiled. "I'm Kyle. Nice to meet you." He really wanted to stay and chat, but he knew potions tended to be time sensitive. "I'll be right over there if you need me," he said, pointing to his cauldron. "But I should get back to brewing. Good luck!"
Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite
"I don't really know how it'd have turned out. Never got to the pearl bit." She said, somewhat distracted by the small bubbles rising to the top of her cauldron. Wouldn't be too much longer now before her water started boiling. "I'll draw you another." Because she now had these two awesome fwoopers to hang over her bed--THAT SHE COULD PROBABLY CHARM TO MOVE ABOUT THE PAGE. Eeep! Clearly Derf needed something in return. She'd charm his too.
The Ravenclaw kept half her conscious mind on the cauldron filling up while the other half entertained the many questions. They were interesting, weren't they? Things she'd never have thought to ask just now but no less thought provoking.
"Sure I can--but first," Jessa unholstered her wand and just as she'd done with her own cauldron she got his nice and scourgify-ed until it was practically sparkling. Cleanliness, very important. With all that chaos just now, never knew what contaminants might have snuck in. "Aguamenti." She was careful to make the wand movement slow enough for him to see, as a means of helping him get it next time. "Glitter does seem a little odd, yeah. It's made from reflective matter, only really glitters because of the light that bounces off it." Which made it make even less sense for the potion but if it was in the text, it meant someone had successfully done this. "Now that I think about it, fall leaves are a little odd too for a potion like this. Lots of bright colours happen in fall, those are hardly conspicuous." Consider her all the more intrigued by this potion. It was a walking contradiction at best.
The water from her wand came to a stop at the half mark, leaving her full attention now on the powder. Huh. Jessa glanced down at her instructions, trying to figure if an amount was mentioned but as it turned out....nope. "Umm..." She bit her lip, considering it a moment. "Whatever we're using, remove the top layer, it's got your tongue on it." But really, how much were they using? "After that, two scoops sounds...alright....yeah." Merlin she hated guess work with this sort of thing. It could entirely ruin the potion. "Wish this was a little more specific. Science may be guesswork sometimes, but it shouldn't be when you've already found out how to get the end result." THERE SHOULD BE NO GUESSING. They should have stopped right there. This was unnerving in the worst sort of way.
Incendio too? Yeah she could do that. Once again Jessa was careful with the wand movement, hoping he was paying attention. She didn't mind doing it for him, but she bet he'd wanna learn at some point. "I'd say we should taste that too," Hard to not recognize cheese, yeah? "but I've got plans later that don't involve the dungeons. We'll assume it is. Cut a piece, we'll try feeding it to the rats after class." They'd like that.
Oh look, the water had begun to boil. Now the potion brewing could really begin.
Jessa plucked 5 juniper berries from the small pile she'd brought back to the table and carefully added them into the boiling water. Each made a low plopping sound but she was sure not to hold them too high above the cauldron, just to avoid hot water splashing all about. Burns weren't exactly at the top of her list of things to walk out of the dungeons with.
She thanked Derf for cutting the fig for her, squeezing it's juice into a container before dropping the now juiced shrivel fig into the cauldron. A part of her questioned this bit. The measurements were a little.........unclear and left much to be interpreted. The gradual change to the light purple, however, was indication enough that it was going alright. So not a disaster so far. Good good.

Uhh, Say what? Samantha just sort of blinked at all the information the professor just laid on them. All the information about hours was confusing enough, but the she started talking about nonliving things, and all Sam could do was hide her face in her hands and mumble to Ace “She knows we all aren't Ravenclaws, yeah?” Because what in the sweet name of Merlin was she on about? And how would one use it as invisible ink? Would you still have to sprinkle the pearl dust on it?
Confusing or not, the good news was she should be able to follow the instructions for making the potion. Or not she thought once she read through what suddenly appeared on the board. That was a lot of steps. And what did the cheese cloth do? That was weird.
Well, First things first, she needed to get her water boiling, and to prepare her ingredients. Getting her cauldron all extra clean with a scourging charm, she used her wand to fill it up half way before putting a flame under it. Next, she busied herself with setting the ingredients out. Berries, cherries and all the rest were laid neatly out in her work area along with a whole shrivelfig and the remainder of her tincture and pearl dust. She eyed those two, and really hoped she hadn't used up too much of it when she was doodling on her parchment earlier.
Soon enough her water was up to a boil, so she looked back up at the board to read the first step. Juniper berries, got it. She picked them all up, one by one, and dropped them int her other hand. It looked like they were supposed to go in all together, so extending her hand, she plopped them in. Leaning slightly closer to her cauldron, she smiled as she inhaled the scent the berries were giving off. It reminded her of adventuring. Her next step, she saw from the board, was half of the shrivelfig, so sitting it in front of her, she reached for her knife, and was just about to cut it when she remembered that she needed to clean her knife. Picking her wand up, she gave it a good scrubbing and then gave it a good and solid chop, causing it to split in half “Here Ace, you can have the other half of mine.” she said giving it over to him. Studying what the board said once more, she placed the flat side of her knife onto the shrivelfig and pressed down on it, causing it to release the fluids it held. When she got all she could out, she dropped it into the cauldron then pulling an empty vial clean vial out of her potions kit, she siphoned up the juice and stored it for the inevitable time when the recipe called for just the juice. Sam peered into the boiling water. Uh, that was a light purple, right?

She was expecting this question, and these questions. Firstly ”No Miss Toussaint the solvent is water, but it other tinctures alcohol is used as the solvent.” She nodded to the slytherin who seem to be on the up of potions things.
Now she looked at the two girls who voice them concern for the demiguise. ”I can ensure you that all the ingredients that I have ever gathered were collectioned in the safest manner that is possble.” What did the students think? That she was some monster that would harm creatures for ingredients. She was not.
After the taste testing debacle was taking care of the rest of the lesson was going great, She had just finished demonstrating the experiment and was letting the students do their own. Her blue eyes watched around the room at the students checking to see if they were staying on task and not goofy around. Her eyes fell on Mister Ashburry-Hawthorne, oh no she seen her face go pale and that was about all. Please don’t…. Merlin. It all happened so fast. ”Mister Ashburry-Hawthorne, are you okay?” What was wrong with him? It was only pearl dust. Rushing over his side, nearly slipping in the sick on the floor. She eyed the sick on the floor, with her wand she cleaned the floor. There was still more on the floor thought and everywhere.
”Yes, Mister Kenning, thank you and since MIss Sparkles is here, as well have her to help you, show her a cleaning spell.” Her being a first it was unlikely that she had knowledge of the charm. She looked over at the Ravenclaw girl, ”Miss Cambridge, are you okay?” She felt just a bad for her as she did Mister Ashburry-Hawthorne. Though the Ravenclaw was perfectly calm about the whole thing.
She looked to the others who had voice their concern for the Hufflepuff. ”He’ll be fine.” Just a weak stomach and a soft heart for creatures. If what miss Cambridge said was the true reason why the Hufflepuff had gotten sick. It would have fun been the first time that had happened to one of her students.
She turned back to the Hufflepuff second year. ”You can be excused to Healer Reed if you are not feeling well.” Hopefully he would, he had disrupted her lesson twice already. Or Maybe he truly wasn’t feeling good. Either way he was going to see the healer.
”If you haven’t already sprinkle the pearl dust on your parchment or do it once you have finished. What is a chemical reaction? What are some chemical reactions, and what happens? You may also pull from muggle chemistry.” She know that chemistry might be out of the league for some students but everyone at least knew the baking soda and

Okay so maybe this lesson was a little too much for some between the vomiting, and the chemistry element she had thrown in. But at least the quiet ones were doing the experiment, so it wasn’t think they was sleeping, or dozing off, staring out into space. Some of them she couldn’t help but to wonder if they had heard her question.
Anyway…. Hopefully they would get a little more involved soon.
SPOILER!!: Derf, Levi, Abey, Daisy Jesse and Emmeline
Ciara’s main concern right now was the student who was sick at the moment. She seen that Miss Carden was reassuring mister Botros. She send him a sympathetic smile.”He’ll be okay Abey. Do you need anything?” Puke and tears were two things that she had not wanted in the lesson today. But here they were. She turned to Mister Kenning and Miss Sparkles. Why the blinking, had he not asked to help?
Ciara joined in and helped them. It was a mess, so the more the better. Then she turned back to Derf. ”If you are sure all you need is some water then. I will take you after class to see the healer.” She would take him to get him checked out. She summoned a glass from the shelves and poured out the water from her wand and slid it in front of him.
She looked around at everyone, everything was fine now. ”Back to your seats. Finish up with you need too, Thank you all for your answers and help.” But they were starting to run out of time and they did want to brew this invisibility potion right?
”A little information about this potion, once you drink it the effects will last up to one hour, you may take it two times equaling two hours. Now if you happen to come across demguise hairs you can add them instead of the tincture and that will strengthen the potion, making it last three hours. You can use it on nonliving things, with one drop the effects last a little longer on non living things. If it is brewed correctly it will be a silvery-white color. Lastly, you can use in as invisible ink, just like with the experiment, with the tincture and pearl dust.” Were they ready for this potion? Some of them really did act like they were excited, She tapped the board and revealed the recipe. ”Here is a list of other ingredients that you will need and the recipe, I will be walking around as you work, if you have a question raise your hand. Now get brewing.” She said with a smile. Hopefully everyone was settled down enough to focus on working on the potion. Only time would tell, perhaps she should pass out vials of a calming draught.
OOC: Alrightly so the rest of the lesson will be brewing the invisibility potion. I'm here if questions arise. If you want to jump in and/or catch up feel free to do so. I think I got everyone, I lost the reply twice third time was the charm apparently. Thanks again for baring with me and my first lesson.
Melbourne had been intrigued at the concept of demiguise liquid…why wasn’t it called demiguise juice for instance…and where exactly did it come from? Did the demiguise die for it…or did some magizoologist express some liquid from a demiguise? She wondered her eyebrows knitting together almost in a concerned fashion…still, instead of asking about it Mel just sat there perplexed for a moment almost missing the fact it was only when Zae had asked if she could join her table that Mel seemed to move.
”of course,” Mel grinned over at the little Slytherin she was possibly considering taking under…her well, wing? That is if gryffindors had wings. Zarina was one of her pride now…not that she really knew that yet.
Taking her quill Mel dipped it into the liquid and scratched out a little note to the Slytheirn in question. Writing down her words she pushed the little paper over to the girl before sprinkling the pearl dust and watching the words appear.
Aw. There. She’d said nice things to the adorable little snakelet. Z – (if I can call you that) I think you’re adorable and would loooooooooooooove to be there for you for advice and stuff in the future? – M.
After a moment she added quickly writing another note on the bottom Z – is it just me or is like E V E R Y O N E here way too attractive for their own good? she added with a little smirk and sprinkled the dust again. Ah…fun silly notes. Those were the best.
Of course Mel was curious as to what the Jarvey fanboy was writing on his note but still she had to pay attention to class and not what Ravenclaw friends were doing…friends, and well, obviously attractive people? What had even happened over summer? It wasn’t like she liked the guy she was just not-blind and of course she LIKED him, he was her friend and definitely a part of the utterly non-exclusive Jarvey gang.
”you ready?” Mel asked as she took out her wand and pointed it at her cauldron, ”scourgify,” she cast cleaning ALL of the clearly non-existent gunk off of her now extra pristine cauldron. Pointing her wand at her cauldron Melbourne said the ill-fated words “aguamenti”merlin this wasn’t what she wanted to happen! The tension in her voice and the confusing mess of her mind had ended with the water spraying back onto her face and hair. Wet!
WET! She was soaking wet.
“stop stop stop I mean…finite!” she squeaked out a little more loudly than she had intended…[size=1]”s-sorry if I got you all wet I was…distracted by things,”[/b] she muttered to Zarina before looking over at the table where her usual group of friends were sitting before glancing to Noelle and back to Z again. ”um…sorry about that” Mel apologized again before pointing her wand at the desk and siphoning the water away from everything.
Yep…that was ridiculous.
Now.
It was take two of step one. Ugh…that was just lame they’d only gotten to step one before she had made a mess of everything. ”aguamenti” she cast and this time, the water went into proper place – the cauldron, and not the work table below it. With the water situated in the cauldron Mel quickly set up all of the ingredients and in their proper allotments.
Yep. She even cut her shrivelfig already and set it into two containers – one for her and the other for Zarina. There, that was good right? Everything was all set. This potion was being brewed mise en place*.

She prepared her table while doing a checklist of everything she needed. She recalled that before and after every potion, you must clean your cauldron. Though, seeing as her's was brand new, she didn't want to take any risks.
She picked up her wand, pointing it towards the cauldron and carefully, but confidently saying the cleaning spell "Scourgify". She watched the pot fill quickly with the clean water before it disappeared. Grinning widely, she turned to her notebook, feeling more confident she pointed her wand towards the cauldron once again,"Aquamenti!" she said, as water filled the cauldron. With a pause, she closed her eyes briefly before opening them, "Incendio!"[/b] the spell easily rolled off her tongue as the cauldron quickly came to a boil. She then proceeded with the steps one by one, until the water suddenly turned from a clear transparent color to a light purple. Grinning widely, she looks at her list to see she was half way done. She began stirring ten times counterclockwise, then five times clockwise waiting until the substance became a darker purple before adding her cherries and glitter. Turning off the cauldron she continued to move between her book and the ingredients before finally placing the cloth over the cauldron, waiting patiently.

brewing - part 2 to Mel

"Incendio.." Kirk aimed under the cauldron to start the brewing and adding the berries. He then glanced over at Mel who started to clean her cauldron before.. spraying herself. He couldn't help laughing a bit at that. "Looking clean, Mel." She looked like she could use a hot air charm.. but maybe not when there are so many chemicals around.
After dropping one, two, three, four, five of the juniper berries it was time to do the slicing. "Say, do you want to share the other half of this?" Taking the knife to cut into half of the Shrivelfig slowly as he asked. Then what was next? Squeezing it into the potion.. Hm. Seemed simple enough.
Though Daisy's efforts to console Abey Botros were a source of obvious distraction, it was mostly Declan's version of a white flag what caused him to miss most of Canterbury's instructions. A series of tumultuous thoughts passed through his head, and when he realized people were beginning to move he blinked in irritation. "I got you," He whispered to his fellow Gryffindor, heading over to collect the necessary ingredients for both himself and Kettleburn. He split them up, half for Charlotte and half for himself.
He worked methodically, face impassive, scourging his cauldron and adding the water with aguamenti. After adjusting the flame, Levi grabbed the shrivelfig while he waited for the water to reach its boiling point. He looked for his measuring tape inside his messenger bag, and scourged it, too; satisfied, he used it to ensure both Charlotte and himself were getting exact halves of the shrivelfig. Holding it gingerly, he sliced into it, handing over the girl her own half.
Levi turned to the water in his cauldron, addressing it very seriously. "You good to go or what? I haven't got all day, mate."
Emmeline rubbed her face wearily as she listened to the professor's lecture about the invisibility potion. Um, that was a LOT of information and she wasn't sure she'd caught half of it. She looked over at Theo and Abey (whichever table he chose to sit at) to see if they were understanding this any better than she was. The nonliving thing was super weird; why would she want to turn DEAD things invisible?! Or rocks or broomsticks....actually, it would be kind of cool to have an invisible broomstick. She smiled at the thought of her big brother's expression if he ever saw her flying around on nothing but air. She wondered if it was safe to use this on creatures, because if it was, this would make sneaking them into her dorm a LOT easier. Raising her hand again, Emmeline asked: "Professor, would this potion hurt a creature if they accidentally got into it somehow?" If the teacher didn't know, she definitely wouldn't risk something like that. Plus she was kind of worried about Scamander or someone else's small pet crawling out of their pockets during this lesson. It had been a crazy day like that. She hoped Scamander hadn't been too upset by Derf's sickness.
Right. Potions. Thank Merlin, the professor had even put notes up with the directions! She wouldn't have to ask anyone for theirs now. Determined to get to work, she turned to a blank page in her potions notebook and dutifully copied down everything that was written on the board.
Emmeline pulled out her dragon hide gloves first, because ewww shrivelfigs and then her potions kit. She gathered the required ingredients in a little pile in front of her. The first step was to boil water, so Emmeline carried her cauldron over to a faucet and carefully filled it to what she thought was the halfway point. Returning to her seat, she got her pretty wand out again. She had heard the spells everyone else was using, and she remembered that the Ollivander's lady had told her that her wand was particularly good at fire spells. So she wasn't terribly nervous as she pointed her wand beneath her cauldron and said with confidence, "Incendio!" She grinned as the fire sprang up under her cauldron; finally a spell that she got on the first try!
Once the water was boiling, Emmeline unceremoniously dropped the 5 Juniper berries into her cauldron. Now for the GROSS part. She reluctantly pulled out the knife from her potions kit and cut the Shrivelfig in half. She pushed the other half in the boys' direction so whoever needed it could grab it. She squeezed her half of the Shrivelfig into potion -- ew, ew, ew -- until she couldn't get any more gross liquid to come out. Then the Shrivelfig itself got tossed into the cauldron too. She held her breath anxiously as she willed the potion to turn light purple. Fortunately, it sloooowly turned the correct color (at least she thought it was light purple) and Emmeline let out a deep breath.

Kyle counted his stirring as he first went counter clockwise, then clockwise. When it turned a dark rich shade of purple he smiled. This is going very well so far, he thought. He checked the instructions and added the cherries one at a time, careful not to splash.
He opened the vial of glitter and measured out the scoops, leveling them before dumping it into the cauldron. He frowned as glitter managed to cling to his fingers. When he tried to brush it off, he found he now had it on both hands. "I swear, glitter is as bad as a communicable disease... Spreads everywhere." Oh well.
He extinguished the burner and checked the instructions again. Moth wings. Something else that was powdered and kind of glittery and would get all over his fingertips. Oh well. He got out the moth wings and dipped two in the tincture of demiguise then dropped those into the cauldron. He took a deep breath and added the pearl dust. The flaming reaction made him smile. Now he just had to wait for it to burn out.
This sounded good! Learning how to make this potion could be very, very Handy so she definitely wanted to know how to make it so that she could use it again when she needed it, outside the lesson, of course! Walking toward the place where all the ingredients were stored she quickly took everything she needed to make this potion.
Looking at the instructions for the potion she started working soon after while looking determined to do this right and well… She really hoped that she would do it right too! During her previous two years she had shown interest in this lesson but… She had failed a lot, sadly…
Muttering a quick spell to fill the cauldron with water, exactly half full she nodded to herself. This was the easiest part of it all, now she only needed to make sure to NOT make a mess of her potion this time! While she waited for the water to start boiling she looked down at her instructions again to see if she could do something while waiting for the water to start boiling because… Waiting was boring and besides, she didn’t wanted to mess this up!
Hmm, she could start with the Shrivelfig, it wasn’t much but it was better than doing nothing! So quick she grabbed her cloves to protect her hands. She wasn’t exactly afraid to get dirty, not at all actually, but she just didn’t knew this ingredient yet so to be careful she took the cloves. Still, after her first two years at Hogwarts, and now her third, she still found herself surprised after seeing some of the potion ingredients, most of them she had never heard about and she was pretty sure that a lot of them weren’t known by the muggles either. Shaking her head she cut the Shivelfig in half waited a few more minutes until she finally could add the juniper berries to the potion. Next she grabbed the Shivelfig again and like the instructions, she squeezed a drop out of it and into the cauldron. But… While looking down at the cauldron she wasn’t exactly happy for what she saw, it was purple yes but… Not exactly the fight color yet! Hmm… Maybe it needed a few more minutes to change…
Etta turned to check the instructions again. Again, trying not to pull a face, she put on her protective gloves and cut the shrivelfig in half and carefully squeezed out the juice into the potion, making sure she didn't drop the shrivelfig into the potion. 'Cause that would be a problem.
Right, moving on. What was next? She turned to look at the potion again and waited patiently until she noticed the colour change. Yes, a light purple. Just as the instructions said. So she hadn't messed it up so far.. that was a relief.
And they had to stir the potion now? With the utmost concentration, she stirred the potion as instructed. Ten times counter-clockwise--- and five times clockwise. Etta kept stirring until she was done, anxiously staring at the potion. The colour needed to deepen, right? After a few minutes, she noticed the light purple change to a deep dark purple. Okay. So far, so good.
It looked like Abey was calming down. Possibly. Throughout all the nosy mess of people going to get their ingredients, casting spells, asking questions and being generally loud, Daisy kept her eyes on his face, breathing at the same time as the boy. In and out, in and out. He was still crying but there seemed to be less intensity to it, or maybe those tears had been scheduled anyway and just needed to come out. That was okay, they weren't going anywhere.
She sent Professor Canterbury a look, mostly to make sure that the woman wasn't going to berate the Gryffindor the way she had done to Derf and Jessa, but soon returned her attention to the matter at hand. She tried to keep her face as neutral as possible but the hints of a frown began to come out when he repeated his apology. "Abey. Don't even worry about that, okay?" He seemed calm enough now, so she removed her hand from his arm, and waved it about dismissively. The other gently, but firmly, closed around his smaller one. It wasn't a lie, either. It truly, genuinely was fine. Firstly because she firmly believed that this, making sure he was okay, was more important than the lesson and secondly because -- well, distractions from lessons were always welcomed, even if she preferred them not accompanied by tears. Still, she accepted what she was offered.
She smiled at him and leaned forward, trying to be all secretive. "You kind of saved me back there, because I was about to fall asleep." She said in a quiet whisper. Which, frankly, wasn't a complete lie. She hadn't been paying that much attention because of ... different things, really. Leaning back, she softly squeezed his hand and nodded her head towards the back of the room, still not really sure of where he had been sitting. "Are you ready to go back, now?" Totally cool if he wasn't, mhmm. She would just sit down on the floor and wait for him to be ready. No big deal.

Glancing over at Jessa's notes while he waited for his water to come to a boil, he noted the way his friend had made little circles next to each item. What was that called again? OH RIGHT! Bullet points! Well...he quite liked the look of those...so he decided to redo his notes a little, cross out the eeeeeeeentire page and flipping it over so he could redo it on the back.
But the time he was done, the water in his cauldron was was definitely boiling, so he scooped up his berries and dumped them into his cauldron. Which was not the best of ideas to do it so quickly because they did make tiny splashes as they went in and some of it landed on the back of his hand and made him YELP.
Today was just NOT his day.
"Maybe...it helps the light bounce around us-s?" he wondered in response to Jessa's talking about glitter. "Like...tiny little mirrors-s-s helping the light pass through us?" Which then begged the question of did it HAVE to be silver? Could he use green glitter? It was his favorite color.
Oh. He supposed the Ravenclaw had a point with the pearl dust being contaminated. "Good point," he nodded, eyeing the vial for now since he was meant to next squeeze the shrivelfig. Um...well...since he had cut them into fourths... he double fisted the slices and squeeeeeeeeezed with all his might. Which meant his face turned a little red since he was trying SUPER hard to get ALL the juice out of it.
And now his hands were covered in shrivelfig juice. Uuuuuuuuuuum...
Glancing down at his cauldron, noting the contents shifting in color slightly to a purpleish hue. Now he was meant to drop his shrivelfig...drop it like it's hot but he wasn't sure where. "Where did you drop yours-s-s?" he asked Jessa, revealing his even more shriveled shrivelfig slives in his hands.

Jessa was in the middle of counting out her ten counter clockwise stirs with the wooden spoon she'd been sure to get cleaned when a drop of hot liquid caught her hand. It caused the Ravenclaw to release her spoon immediately in favour of flashing that hand twice because oooowwwwwww.
Merlin's beard. That....that was definitely boiling. Thank you Derf. It took a deep breath but she managed to regain her composure and miraculously, the number she'd gotten to in her counting. Eight? It was eight. So...nine...ten aaaannndd clockwise now for five stirs. one...two...three....four...five...
"But that's just it, the light doesn't go through the glitter." Jessa explained as she carefully added 6 cherries to the cauldron. No more splashes please. "So this wouldn't help light go through us. If nothing else, light would be bouncing off us like no one's business. We'd be...almost...." The girl looked to her first scoop of glitter, taking a keener look at the stuff than she ever had. "shiny. We'd be kinda shiny." One scoop was added then the other.
She reached over to get her fire out but took noticeable pause having seen the next step. Her brows creased, evidently perplexed. The Professor hadn't said whether they could have a new vial of demiguise tincture and suffice to say Jessa was NOT keen on using this one. The potion did not call for 13 year old saliva. Blue eyes fell back to her friend, her brows evening out some. "In the cauldron because that seemed like the most logical place. I dunno. This part wasn't clear either but I think that's what it means."
She huffed, rather put off at the fact her progress would have to be stopped. "What will we do about our tincture?"

Etta picked a few cherries and dropped them into the potion before she searched her rather cluttered desk for the silver coloured glitter. Ah, there it was. She wondered what the glitter was for, though? What did it exactly do? Questions were for later though. She needed to finish this potion first. So she added it to the potion as well.. and watched the contents of the cauldron boil for a few minutes.
And soon enough, she turned off the heat. Okay, then. Now, what? She looked to read the instructions again. Moth wings.. she picked them up and dipped one into the tincture of demiguise first and dumping it into the cauldron before she repeated the same with the other one. So now that they were both added to the mixture, she proceeded to the next instruction on the list. The pearl dust.. right. She quickly picked it up and added it to the cauldron too..
--- and WHOA.
What the heck was that sound? She peeked into the cauldron, careful not to move too close to it.. when she suddenly realised that this was supposed to happen, right? The demiguise tincture and pearl dust make a reaction that would burn... right? Well, she panicked for nothing.

After the potion/mixture turned into light purple, Ava grabbed a stirrer (and yes, she scourgified it first before using it) and stirred the potion ten times counter clockwise. Then she added five more stir in clockwise motion. Watching that the color turned darker, the Gryffindor then added cherries and silver colored glitter. The Gryffindor wondered if the effect wouldn't be the same if they used other colored glitter for this potion.
She turned off the heat and then added the leaves. The next part should be... Wings and tincture of demiguise. Ava took two moth wings, dipped them to the tincture and then added them to her cauldron. The next step should be interesting. Adding the pearl dust, she watched the cauldron and... Woah, it burned! Ava let it burned out, and then she added another moth wing once the burning it's done. With the stirrer, she did the stirring five times in counter-clockwise motion, then continued by ten more clockwise stirs.
Seeing that her potion color became silvery-white, Ava sighed in relief. And that meant, she almost finished here. She added the remaining moth wing to her cauldron and then place the cheese cloth over her cauldron, leaving it for five minutes.

Ah. So that's where the thing that Olly had pushed over to her came in. Using protective gear, Noelle picked up the shrivelfig, squeezed the juice out, and dropped the fig.
Looking at her instructions before starting again, she made a mental note of the steps.

Looking down at her potion it looked... like a grey purple... close enough right? She started stirring the potion, counter clock wise. 10 times. Then clockwise 5 times. She took a peek into her cauldron again. It was turning a purple, but not a deep purple. " Hey guys, is my potion purple enough?" She asked and then looked at the three {Olly, Etta, and Stasya}. She also should be looking to make sure Stasya didn't need any help but... potions was one of the subjects she had to try HARD to succeed at.
Thoughts? Purple enough?

Okay, it was official: Levi was the perfect tablemate for potions class. Not only was he not distracting like some people (Helloo Henry, we mean you. Char spared a moment to wave her little finger at her boyfriend), but Levi was also conscientious enough to fetch ingredients for her too. Stand up guy, really. She would just have to keep working with-- oh they were starting. Right.
Did it matter what size cauldron you had when you have filled it? Oh well, Char wasn't bothered enough to ask. She was bothered enough to give her cauldron a quick scour though. She couldn't remember the last thing she brewed so it it was good to be safe, just in case, even if it looked clean already.
That done, she cast aguamenti and filled the cauldron to what looked like halfway when she eyeballed it.
Next she lit the fire beneath it with Incendio and waited for the water to boil. It was easy to get distracted while waiting, honestly, but it finally started to bubble. Were they supposed to leave it on the boil? Char didn't ask, she just threw in the five juniper berries Levi had brought over for her and then looked at the huge waaaaaaaall of instructions again, aka the reason potions was not her best subject.
By the time she had, Levi had again come to her rescue, providing her with the shrivelfig half. "Thanks!"
What a gem.
The Levi, not the shrivelfig.

Olly was busy stirring his cauldron, with the metal stir stick that he had made sure to clean first, of course. Ten times counter clockwise first, and then five times clockwise. He made sure not to let his attention stray, made sure to keep his focus on counting the stirs. And when he was done the potion was a was still purple, but a much darker purple than it had just been. As soon as he was done with the stirring he gathered up six cherries and dropped the whole bunch in at once. His head tilted to the side slightly as he stared into the potion and considered things. Things that made a note of to find a real answer for later. For now he had to continue with his motion making.
Adding glitter to a potion seemed weird but if that's what the recipe called for he was not going to argue. He needed two scoops of it, and they both went into his cauldron. It looked weird. But Olly just shrugged and turned off the heat. He glanced up at the board for the next instruction. Right the leaves. He took the five leaves and added them to the potion. So far so good.

Forcing a smile in Professor Canterbury's direction, because oh buddy her stomach was a mess at the moment, she went about pulling her cauldron. Trying to remember everything that Professor Newton had taught her previous to this lesson, she breathed through the cramps. First...she'd clean the cauldron. Right... It needed to be cleaned because dust was a very real factor in these musty dungeons.
...Actually, she was going to collect ingredients before doing anything to the cauldron. Just so she wouldn't need to leave her workstation after getting started. Man, if Liv were feeling better, the fact that she'd get to pour glitter into a potion would've brightened her entire life. Alas... Cheese cloth. More of this business. Oh, Professor Newton, you were being missed.
After grabbing all the things one would need for an invisibility potion (as per Professor Canterbury's recipe), Olivia slowly retreated back to her workstation; laying all the things out for inspection. Most of the ingredients didn't require much preparation, save for the shrivelfig and two of the moth wings, but she supposed the moth wings needed to be dipped just before getting added. The shrivelfig was probably safe to cut now, though. Pulling one of the knives from her potions kit, the blonde laid a scourgify spell on it before slicing the shrivelfig down the center.... Er, was sharing it with a neighbor required? ....
Um.
"Does anyone need the other half of my shrivelfig?"

That didn’t seem hard at all.
“Okay,” she said once he’d finished speaking. At least now her water could boil, and she knew someone who could help her if Noelle or the others didn’t. “I’m Stasya.” Just because it seemed right to at least introduce herself now he’d helped her.
Oh, her new Lion!baby...and a ickle Slytherin baby. "Would either of you like the other half of my shrivelfig?.... Stasya, would you like to work with me?" For helping purposes. Liv didn't want her to feel like she needed to figure this entire thing out on her own. There were plenty of her older peers around to ensure success.
That went for both younger kids, actually. "We could all work together, if you'd like." Yes, let her focus on helping others so she wasn't thinking about her own ickly feelings.
Whilst waiting for a response, Olivia went ahead and Scourgified! her cauldron, casting Aguamenti! just after. Halfway... as was per the norm.

Kyle looked at the instructions once the reaction had burnt out. Add another moth wing. Okay, he could do that. He added another moth wing to his potion and looked back at the instructions. More stirring. He nodded and counted his stirs, first five time counter-clockwise, then ten times clockwise. He watched as the potion took on a light silvery color. It was quite the contrast from the dark purple. He dropped in the remaining moth wing and covered the cauldron with a cheese cloth. He took out a piece of parchment and with a wave of his wand, set a timer on it that would count down the five minutes. Now all he could do was wait.
He looked around at the other students in various stages of potion-making. His attention drifted to the Gryffindor (SilverTiger) that he had helped before and wondered if she needed any assistance. Well, he had helped her enough, hadn't he? And he told her where he'd be if she needed any help.
