The normal greenish glow of the dungeons seem to glow a bit brighter today as if it was reflecting some of the sunlight from outside somehow. The classroom is a comfortable even for the September weather. The workstations are sat up in their normal way four people per table, not that it was relevant to the lesson today. Labs coats, were hanging right as you walk in, if you wanted one they were there. On workstation was a parchment, quill, and two vitals one has a clear liquid and the other has a white sandy dust substance in the other. They will find out what was in them soon enough.
Professor Canterbury had the doors wide open. Standing near the door slipped on her own lab coat and walked around the classroom. Checking to see it was all ready to go and that each spot had what was needed for the lesson. She moved back behind her desk and to took a seat as she waited for the students to come in. Come right on in and take a seat the lesson be being getting started
OOC: Please make sure you're familiar with Professor Canterbury’s rules as well as the SS site rules before posting. Please remember this IC this is not the first lesson of the term. Class will continue in a little over 24 hours time (May 6 around 9am EST) Thanks for coming! Class has officially started so please keep the chatting to a minimum. If you haven't posted your charrie in here and want to, please feel free to jump right in and pretend as though they've been here the entire time.
Kyle smiled. The lesson was over, but now he had an invisibility potion! He scourgified his cauldron and carefully put his things away. Double-checking that his two vials were safely tucked away, he made his way out of the Potions classroom, waving to the professor as he went. He went back to humming softly, his special little song about botanical copulation.

It was a good thing Levi put the timer on because Char hadn't. Five minutes of waiting was too many minutes of waiting though, for someone like Charlotte.
"Part of the fun of sneaking out is the risk though!" Did Levi's inner Gryffindor not understand this? "And the rest of the time I would rather be seen." And honestly she would likely be heard whether she was visible or not. And it seemed like something that only had nefarious uses.
But she shared a smile with Levi. "You know I will keep helping you with that anyway, but you helping me with potions is definitely a fair trade!"
Come onnnnnnnn timer.

"You're right, of course," he allowed after a moment, but then said, "But I'd rather save potential detention time for whenever I do manage to break into the restricted section," He sounded perfectly reasonable because he thought it was important to have goals.
And he figured that if he ever did manage to do it he'd probably get caught, eventually. If he was going to get detention, Levi felt it was his duty to at least make sure it was over something important.
Proving people wrong, being consciously and happily contrary, teaching the professors that there was no point on having a library if you were just going to keep students from accessing every single part of it.
The usual stuff, of course.
His pocket watch vibrated in his hand, a hum coming out of it and Levi tapped it twice to silence it. "It's done."

"You're as bad as Chloe." As in her bestie, not her sister. And also not in the troublemaker sense but totally in the crazy about learning sense. Which apparently was a thing for some people. Whyyy did Char attract those kinds of people? People who were not nerds exactly, but were hardcore about their nerdiness? They were fun when they were being fun, but most of the time they were hung up on doing unfun things like studying from books. Like for houuurs on end.
To be fair though, Char had never felt the need to use the restricted section for anything. For one, she wasn't that extra, for another, anything she needed and then some, could be found in the Toussaint family library. Including things that couldn't be found at Hogwarts. Including things that weren't technically legal in Britain.
But the library wasn't technically in Britain so that was fine.
OH! The time was up! YAS! Char pulled the cheesecloth off and sort of flailed it a bit. "What do we do with this? Is it contaminated?" Levi could have hers. Yeaaa she didn't know what to do with it, and if there was an instruction about it she had missed it. Char helpfully (for herself) nudged the cheesecloth closer to Levi to deal with, and then got down to the business of decanting her potion into vials and labelling them.
And then they would be free to goooooo.

"Chloe?" It took him a moment to connect the dots and go through his mind's catalog of the people he often saw Charlotte with. "Oh, Newman. Right." Or wrong. Levi couldn't say he'd ever considered given that his one significant conversation with the Ravenclaw girl--well, he supposed it could have gone worse. She'd gotten snippy and rude and he'd grown pretentious and intolerable. They'd really just pretty much responded to each other in kind until the conversation had switched to salad and fries and then back to feminism and racial bias.
It had been pretty stimulating, if he was being honest. "Maybe. I don't know her that well."
Perfectly diplomatic answer.
He let Charlotte collect the potion into vials for the two of them and he took the cheesecloths from her. Levi used his wand to fold them and set them neatly next to the cauldrons. "I am just going to leave these here, Peofessor Canterbury."
Taking her Shrivelfig half in her gloved hand Melbourne started to get to work. Her fingers pressed into the of the purple Shrivelfig pushing the halved fruit until the juice of the fruit was now in her cauldron instead of sitting unused in the possibly useless fruit…really – were they edible? That would have made far more sense as to why they were used in SO many potions now? Considering they were used in many a potion.
Why an invisibility potion? She wondered for a moment until an idea popped into her head ultra violet the shrivelfig might have given the potion the ability to be harder to see?...not have color or well have colors humans couldn’t see? Still thinking about how the potion could turn something, someone, or anyone invisible Melbourne set about stirring her potions ten times counter clockwise – by the fifth stir she was glad that she had opted for her much lighter crystal stirrer…maybe it would lend to having her potion be cleaner and more effective? That would ne nice. Five more stirs counter clockwise and she was finished with the first set of stirs…then, immediately she moved on to stirring her potion again – five times clockwise all the while the color of the potion was deepening until on the final stir the color was dark purple.
Right. That looked like a nice color for a skirt – a deep intense purple would go swimmingly with some of the things India had given her before the start of term…still, now wasn’t a time to consider clothing ideas it was a time for dedicated potion brewing and with that Melbourne picked up the little ramekin dish she had placed her cherries in before placing them into her potion – one…two…three…four…five…six – good. That was it and adding in the silver sparkles she just grinned awww this potion looked like a cool edgy lipstick shade. NO now was not a time to think how cool and edgy that would look.
Super cool, and super edgy….”finite” Mel muttered as she shut the flame below her cauldron off with a flick of her wand. ”I’m sorry for your loss Moths…but thank you for the cause,” she muttered to the wings as she tucked away the empty ramekin that used to be the home of six delicious cherries…now, with the wings in her hand she took the vial of Demiguise tincture in one hand and unstopped the lid. Picking up one of the four Moth Wings and dipping not one but two of them into the Demigusise tincture and added the entire solution into the cauldron. Stopping the now spent tincture vial she placed it in the bowl full of used utensils that she had set about to clean after she reached a stopping point in the potion. Taking the vial of pearl dust she dropped the contents into the potion and watched the chemicals react…the sizzling burning reaction was interesting to watch and almost calming. It didn’t take long for the reaction to burn out. When it had fully burnt out she added in the third moths wing and proceeded to begin stirring her cauldron with a new freshly cleaned stirrer. Five stirs counter clockwise then five times clockwise – the color of the potion lightened and seemed to gleam more as the colors changed to a shimmering silvery-white. It was beautiful, still, almost reaching the end of the potion she plugged on. The final remaining moth wing into the potion and taking her cheese cloth she placed it over the top of her cauldron and set to work cleaning her work station.
“Scourgify” she muttered as her and made the familiar shape and she watched the vial in her hand glint clean, “Scourgify” again, she cast this this time on her stirrer and then she cleaned the desk with a cloth she had doused in a cleaning potion she had picked up – one, that of course, didn’t have many chemicals in it and wouldn’t react to whatever was on the desk. The mess and pile of spent materials was dealt with in a matter of moments…now, she still had to wait for the five minutes. Five minutes that seemed would take a petasecond to be finished…merlin this waiting thing was taking eons. Waiting…absolutely the worst part of potion making.

Emmeline smiled as the older Slytherin girl (Daisy) brought Abey back over to their table. "Welcome back, Abey!" She hoped he was feeling better. Lowering her voice -- so that Abey wouldn't be embarrassed -- she whispered to the Slytherin girl: "Thanks for helping him, miss!" Because big kids didn't always do that, so she wanted this girl to know how cool it was that she'd stayed with Abey.
Turning back to her notes, Emmeline frowned severely at the instructions. That was A LOT of very specific counting, and she was not very good at paying that much attention. She pulled whatever the stirring thing from her potions kit was called, and tried to count the 10 counterclockwise stirs. Unfortunately, she lost count around number 7 because she kept glancing back at Derf and Abey to make absolutely sure they were really okay, and Stasya too, because of course Stasya would have been upset like she was with all the craziness. What number was she on? Nine? She couldn't remember, so she proceeded to the 5 clockwise stirs which were much easier to keep track of. Maybe she should've done the other ones in smaller groups... Oh well.
Her potion had certainly turned a dark color, but she couldn't really tell if it was black or dark purple. Emmeline tilted her head to the side and squinted into her cauldron, but she still couldn't really tell. It was close enough, right? She dropped the cherries into the cauldron and barely noticed that some of her potion had spilled onto the table, because her hands had been busy with her notebook and not lying in front of the cauldron.
GLITTER TIME! Two scoops, her notes said. But how big of a scoop? Emmeline glanced at her watch and realized that the lesson would be over soon. This was no time to worry about scoop-sizes! She dipped her spoon into the pretty silver glitter and got two BIG scoops of it out before dumping them into the cauldron; too much glitter was better than not enough, right? Besides, glitter goes everywhere all by itself. It was already all over her robes, the desk, her potions notes -- although she had to admit that the glitter made her notes more appealing. They were pretty now, after all.
Okay, time to turn off the heat. She extracted her wand from her wrist holster again, and taking careful aim muttered: "Agaumenti!" Annnd nothing happened. Frowning, Emmeline had to repeat the dumb spell THREE times before a rather small and pathetic stream of water finally doused the flames under her cauldron.
Skimming the directions, Emmeline threw in a handful of the leaves required. It didn't have to be exactly five, right? Next were the moth wings, GROSS, that had to be dipped in the Demiguise liquid. This was definitely the worst part of the potion; although she didn't like gross insects, she felt terribly sorry for whatever ones had had their wings ripped off to make a potion, and hoped fervently that the moths had been dead first.
The next part was easy; they'd done it earlier this lesson, hadn't they? Emmeline poured the pearl dust into the cauldron and watched as it burned when it came into contact with the demiguise stuff. She tapped her fingers on the table impatiently while she waited for it to burn out, because the lesson ended soon, hello?
Another moth wing. Great. Emmeline dropped it in carefully, then stared at the directions when it mentioned lots of stirring AGAIN. Did she have time for this?! Regardless, she picked up the stirrer and counted out 5 counterclockwise turns quickly. More of the potion flew out of the cauldron because she was rushing. The lesson would end in a few minutes! Panicking slightly, she hurried to do the 10 clockwise turns in two groups of 5, but she was stirring so quickly now that she didn't know if it was exactly 10 or not. Close enough. Barely glancing at the color of her potion, Emmeline threw in the last gross moth wing and almost violently tossed the cheese cloth over her potion just as the professor gave them a five minute warning. That had been close...
Five minutes later, the lesson ended and her potion was ready. Emmeline quickly retrieved an empty vial and scooped some of her potion into it. She thought it looked more silvery than white, but what did she know? Anyway, it was too late now, so she scribbled her information onto the vial and walked carefully over to where the other kids were putting theirs. Walking back to the desk, she got her wand out once again and said confidently: "Evanesco!" She grinned as the contents vanished just like the sick had on the floor. Well, this might not have been her most successful potion ever, but at least she had learned that potions could do cool things, AND how to do three new spells!

Five minutes had never seemed so long. Stasya had started doodling in her potions notebook by the end of the five minutes, just in the edges and stuff. And mostly it was little drawings of animals. Moths and squirrels and other things, seeing as no matter how hard she’d tried to pretend she wasn’t using them, the fact there were moth wings inside her cauldron had bothered her. Everything else hadn’t been a big deal, not even the tincture of demiguise even though she still wasn’t sure how that was collected. Professor Canterbury hadn’t really answered that question, even though she’d answered all of the ones Liv had asked.
Near about the third minute, she had tried to clean up a little, but really it was glitter so all she’d really managed to do was spread it out more. All the containers and stuff were closed though and she’d carefully used her wand to clean her tools and pack them, specked with glitter probably, into her bag. They weren’t needed anymore, after all…except as the professor had spoken again she realized she still had to get her potion into a vial or lots of them. That meant unpacking again to find something to fill the vial, since she didn’t really want to touch the potion that she’d been forced to sacrifice moths for. Her potion that she still, after five minutes, wasn’t convinced it wasn’t still kind of really pale lavender instead of silvery-white, but she’d sealed the vial as carefully as she could before labeling it with her name and house and bringing it up to the professor’s desk. The rest got vanished as per the spell she’d heard Emmeline be told about. She didn’t want to keep any of it, not when it bothered her knowing about the moth wings and everything.

If Jessa said his potion was okay then it was OKAY! So he could properly check off those steps somewhat confidently from his instructions. Actually, his potion was probably a bit closer to a red violet color than a purple since he HAD stirred the cauldron a bit too many times...but his attention was already on the cherries and his desire to just eat them as is. He hadn't had all THAT much to eat for breakfast and cherries were just super yummy, you know? BUT...he wasn't allowed to taste test anything without permission sooooo...
See? He could listen and follow instructions. Sometimes.
Dropping the cherries into the cauldron - and making a note on his parchment to maybe not do that from such a height the next time - he added the glitter and then huffed and puffed to blow out his flame. It took a few tries, which kind of reminded him of the trick birthday candles dad sometimes put on birthday cakes, but eventually the flame went out and then it was time to dip the moth wings into the demiguise solution. Which was REALLY hard. Like...really REALLY hard because moth wings were SUPER delicate as is and now they were WET. His actually stuck to the side of the vial at first...and he had needed to use his wand and potion stirring rod thingy to scrap it all off the side...but he was pretty sure he had got all of it! Two wings - one solid and one in mushed up bits - into the cauldron later, Derf grabbed what was left of the pearl dust and dumped that into his cauldron as well. OOOOOOOH...THAT made a NEAT noise!
OH WOAH! THERE WAS FIRE! WOAH WOOOOOOOOOAH!
Leaning back on his stool and nearly toppling over the back of it, the Hufflepuff did as the instructions said and waited for the fire to go out aaaaand in went another moth wing. This time without having to deal with the liquid so THAT made things so much easier! NOT talking this time as he stirred, Derf accomplished this in the appropriate number of turns in the right directions aaaaaaaaand...well...it looked more like a shimmery off white than silver...but still good, yes? In went the last moth wing and over the top of the cauldron went the cheese cloth.
Which he wanted to taste himself rather than on the rats first like Jessa had suggested. After all, anything he gave to a creature he wanted to make sure he could also eat - what he did with all the insects and such he caught on the grounds for Scamander.

Instructions
Fill cauldron half way full with water, Bring the water to a boil. ✓ this takes a REALLY long time. Mum says watching water makes the boiling take longer so probably better to start prepping the other ingredients while you wait. Like cutting the shrivelfig.
Add in the juniper berries ✓ BE CAREFUL NOT TO DO SO TOO EXCITEDLY BECAUSE BOILING WATER SPLASHING ON YOUR HANDS HURTS!!!!!!
Cut the Shrivelfig in half, you may wear protective gloves if you wish, squeeze the juice out, and drop the Shrivelfig. ✓ You have to squeeze reeeeeeeeally hard to get all the juice out...and it's kind of messy.
At this point potion should be a light purple✓
Stir ten times counter clock wise, then five times clockwise, potion should be a deep dark purple.✓ Probably a good idea NOT to talk while doing this part.
Add in the cherries ✓ DON'T drop them from too heigh a place because hot potion on your hands and face HURTS!!
Add the silver colored glitter ✓
Turn off the heat. ✓ you kind of have to blow REALLY hard to do that.
Dip the 2 of the moth wings into the tincture of Demigusise and add them to the cauldron ✓ Careful not to touch the sides of the vial because they STICK and BREAK APART and its really hard to fit your wand in there to scrap it all off.
Drop the Pearl dust into cauldron. When tincture of Demiguise meets pearl dust, they make a reaction that burns. ✓ Make sure you are ready for the fire because it's really surprising.
Let it burn out ✓
Add another moth wing ✓ YAY FOR NO TINCTURE THIS TIME! So much easier.
Stir five times counter clock wise, then ten times clockwise. ✓ NO TALKING! FOCUS HERE.
Potion should be silvery-white color. ✓
Add the remaining moth wing.✓ EASY AGAIN WITHOUT THE TINCTURE!
Place the cheese cloth over your cauldron and leave it there for 5 minutes ✓
