The potions laboratory is right next to the potions storeroom, it looks exactly like the potions classroom. Small in size there's a door connecting to the storeroom. To the right are cabinets that you can find common ingredients, don't worry about bring your own equipment (unless you desire too). They are in stored in the cabinets too on either side of the room. Just remember to clean before AND after you use any of the equipment. On the left are potions textbooks, other potions books and magazines. On the back wall hanging up are small portraits of the former Potion Professors of Hogwarts dating far back into time with a small bio about them and the potioneering career. At the front of the room are posted sign in sheet, and list of ingredients and other info as well as classroom rules and laboratory rules. Keep in mind there are rules to that must be followed while you are in the laboratory:
1. Please sign in: Include Name, Year, House, and what potion you will be working on.
2. Try not to make a mess but if you do please clean up after yourself, I'm not your house elf, maid or mother.
3. Try not to break anything
4. If you use any equipment, clean it before and after you use it. AND put it back where you found it. That goes for unused ingredients and books too.
5. The Laboratory will be open at all times, except for after hours., I reserve the right to lock the lab at any time.
6. Have fun and enjoy potions is a hands on subject. This is a place you to practice and lean and better you knowledge.
OOC: This is NOT a class. No classes will be held here. This thread is for role-playing and fun, and will remain open all term long. You just RP your character signing the notebook and get to having fun!

Noelle had asked Professor Stewart to meet her in the potions lab. Of course, it might have looked unusual for the Transfiguration professor to come to the potions part of the castle, but really, Transfiguration and Potions went hand in hand.
Heading into the lab, Noelle went to get her supplies for her potion ready while she waited for the professor. She wanted to show the professor her skills with a certain potion. One they had been assigned to make this term. this would be her final mandatory time making it.
Noelle was to the point that she almost didn't even need the instructions to the potion, but being safe more than sorry, she brought the instructions with her.
Getting out her
SPOILER!!: List of ingredients
8 leeches
1.5 cm of boomslang skin, dried under sun for 7 days
2 horns of bicorn (grated)
1 scoop of frozen lacewing flies at -21°C for 7 days
6 measures of Fluxweed picked on waxing gibbous
.
She headed to the storage room to grab what was required. Then she brought them out and prepared everything except the horns. She would have enough time later in the potion to grate those. She didn't have the copper cauldron she borrowed last time to make this potion. Instead, she had her regular pewter cauldron to work with.
Once her ingredients were all ready, she eagerly looked at the time.

When Camilla was asked to meet Noelle in the Potions Lab, the women hadn't needed to ask why. It was that time in the girls Animagus training that she would be needing to brew Animalia Mutliaia, a potion that would allow her to transform into an animal for a limited amount of time. This was a step that she was sure most of the students she was training enjoyed.
Leaving Bonsai asleep in her office, Cami made her way down to the Dungeons towards the lab. She was sure she was on time as she entered the room taking a look around. It had been quite the many years since she had been in here herself to potion brewing reasons. Not that any of that was important. Spotting Noelle she walked over towards her surveying the ingredients that were prepared.
"Not wasting any time today, hmm?," she hummed smiling warmly. "Good evening Noelle, I see you're all ready to go. If you already signed that book you can begin whenever you're ready." If she hadn't signed the book Camilla wouldn't mind doing that for them.

Hearing the professor's voice behind her, Noelle looked up from her ingredients and then beamed at the professor. She was excited okay? "Not wasting a moment!' She said happily as she went to greet the professor with a wave. "Good evening professor. Ready?"
opps!
In all her excitement, Noelle forgot to sign in. "[b]Oh yeah. Ill sign my name real quick and then we can begin.

"There we go" Noelle said brightly and headed back over to her ingredients. "Are you ready to be amazed?" She asked with a little excited grin.

Camilla laughed softly to herself seeing the smile on Noelle's face. "I can see that," she smiled nodding her head at everything the Prefect had already had set out for the potion. "I am very much ready to see how you handle this." She wouldn't be helping her out much on the purpose unless it was truly needed, she would mainly be watching. With that thought she selected herself a stool to sit upon so she could watch but be out of the way.
"Got a bit ahead of yourself, there," she laughed softly. It happened. No harm was done.
"I'm always ready. Let's see what you go," Camilla Stewart smiled warmly nodding her head. Seeing her students succeed always made her incredibly happy and she was more than ready to under see this potion making get started.

Did Noelle mention that she was excited? It wasn't often that she was excited about making potions in front of professors, but alas. This time she was.
Looking over her supplies once more, she made sure she had everything before she started. She knew the potion almost by heart by now, but it was always good to have the instructions in front of you, just in case. "Okay, so first, how are you today?" Professor Stewart and her had a pretty good relationship. She was more comfortable with her than a lot of the professors. Merlin, if she could only talk to her crush!professor like this. It would make CoMC so much smoother.
While she waited for her to answer, she cleaned her cauldron once more. "Also, I tried getting my hands on a copper cauldron, but wasn't lucky this time. We made potions a couple weeks ago and I did this potion. I was able to use someone's copper cauldron that time." Just so she knew.
Next, Noelle filled a measuring cup with 700 ml used from her wand and then poured it into the cauldron. Then she lit the cauldron on low. No need to use her wand, she would need it elsewhere. After about 4 minutes, the water was boiling. Grabbing the leeches, she added them into the boiling water. Taking the boomslang skin, she gently laid it over the water surface. She was careful not to touch the boiling water. She didn't want any burns. It didn't take long for the skin to dissolve. She took her metal stick and stirred 6 times counterclockwise before turning the heat up to maximum.

Professor Stewart got up once and moved her chair just slightly to the left so she would be able to have a better view of Noelle's potion making. Sitting back down she let herself relax and watch the teen work, not wanting to distract her at all. She was being spoken to however and keeping a light conversation between them both wasn't a problem just so all of the required attention was on the potion once she had begun. "I'm good today. No one came to me complaining about any transfiguration mishaps so that's always a good day. How're you?"
"That's quite alright. The wait isn't much of a big deal. You can show me when you're ready to use the potion or write me a detailed experience one your transformation afterwards." In her journal or whichever she liked. There was no rush in making the potion or ingesting it.
The brunette professor had fallen quite while Noelle began to clean out the cauldron once more and than get to work. She watched as water was added into the cauldron and the heat set until it boiled. Ingredients followed and than some stirring all the while Camilla took mental notes of how well Noelle was doing.

People complained about Transfiguration? Huh. Noelle quirked a brow at the professor. "People complain? about what? Or were they trying a spell and it didn't work and needed some help?" Noelle had that issue more than once and had gone to the professor about it.... if she couldn't fix it herself.
"I can write you a detailed one if you don't have the time." Noelle said, taking a peek at the professor while she worked on the next steps of her potion. She'd love to actually turn with the professor. What an experience that would be... speaking of. "When I get to change for animagi training, are you going to be changing with me?"
Now to concentrate on her potion.

Using the 7 minutes for her cauldron to heat up, she grated the bicorn horns she pulled out. Once it was ready, she turned the heat down to medium and then gently added in the grated horn. She made sure the color was what it looked like. It looked like it was supposed to.
Pulling her wand out, she waved it over the potion and clearly said, 'Permuto motus'. Then Noelle quickly but gently added in the wings. She grabbed her wooden stirrer, after grabbing the metal one She used her wooden stick to stir. Starting in the clockwise direction, she alternated between clockwise and counter clockwise and stirred a total number of fourteen times. She hummed a little tune while she stirred.
Noelle knew that she was almost done with the potion. She took a second to look over at the professor and grinned. She added the fluxweed and brought the heat to low. She smiled because the potion was looking great. She'd made it enough times to know.
Now was the waiting game.
"Now we just have to wait. Almost a whole day! If you have time about the same time tomorrow, would you want to test it out with me?" She asked the professor while she cleaned up.

Now was the waiting game.
"Now we just have to wait. Almost a whole day! If you have time about the same time tomorrow, would you want to test it out with me?" She asked the professor while she cleaned up.
The look of surprise on Noelle's face made the professor laugh. "Yes, at times. It is a rather difficult subject for some. Normally it's help with a spell that isn't working for them or questions about an assignment I gave." Lately she hadn't had anyone come to her with a mishap from a spell gone wrong which was always a good thing. Having the students come to her when they needed assistance always made her happy as she knew they weren't afraid in coming to her nor would they end up in a disaster should something go wrong while preforming the spell.
"You can write do anything you like in your journal, all your experiences in changing." If she wanted her to read them than she would do that. Noelle's question made her smile and she nodded. "I can certainly do that if you would like me, at least the first few times." Some found the transformations much easier to handle if they weren't going through them alone. This was one of the main reasons why if there was more than one student going through the training at the same time pairing them off into groups helped.
Professor Stewart once more fell silent and sat back in her chair to watch the teen work on the potion. The way the potion making was handled with such ease of someone who already knew this potion by heart didn't surprise her. She would have commented on this had she not wanted to distract Noelle. The time moved by at a steady pace and soon enough the last step was upon them and the fluxweed went into the cauldron and the heat was turned down. "Very, very nicely done, Miss Summers. I take it you have done this before?" she laughed knowingly, a warm smile tugging at her lips.
"The waiting is always the toughest part but I'm sure you'll be able to find a few things to keep yourself busy and help the time move right along." Cami knew she wouldn't have any trouble keeping busy. Hmm? She wanted her to take the potion too? Well that was different. "I would love to, if you're sure about that. I can meet you right back here tomorrow." This would be interesting for sure.

Students at Hogwarts perplexed Noelle at times. Some things she didn't understand. But then again, she didn't want to. She shook her head as she finished the potion and then looked at the professor. "Well, if it's anything, I think you're doing a brilliant job. I love your classes.' She said, offering a smile. "We should try draconifors spell." She said with a grin. "Ive always wanted to try that spell."
Putting her things away, and storing the potions for the long 23 hours, Noelle nodded. "I'd love it if you were about to change with me the first couple times. You think Ill be able to handle training plus NEWT studying?" Noelle asked. She just wanted a boost of confidence to be honest. It was scary that NEWTs were right around the corner.
She also beamed when the professor said very nicely. "I may have done this once or twice before." She said with a knowing smile. The professor had seen the book that her big sis had given to her earlier this year. This potion had been stuck to the book with a sticking charm. It wasn't a wonder she didn't know.
"OKay! So we will meet here tomorrow. Same time? Ive made enough for two." She said with a big grin. She was ready.
------------------------------------------------------- The Next Day
Noelle headed into the potions lab right after training. She was still in her training clothes but it didn't matter. She'd be an animal soon enough. Carrying with her, was the secret ingredient to the potion. Dog hair. Noelle pulled out the hair wrapped in parchment and went to check on her potion while waiting for the professor.

Each and every student was different. No two were ever the same...not even siblings or twins. They all had their strengths and weaknesses. Being a Professor made one realize that very quickly and as a professor it was her job to help each and every one of these students excel. "That means a great deal. Thank you," Camilla smiled warmly. It always helped knowing the students enjoyed her lessons. "Ah, Draconifors. I can add that to my list of lesson plans and see if I can fit it in somewhere." Suggestions were wonderful!
"Well if you would like that than I shall be here. Transforming with someone else is a lot of fun." It takes some of the pressure off of you and allows you to just have a good time. "I think you'll do fine. Just remember, eat right, exercise and get enough sleep. That goes for both training and NEWTs studying. If you feel overwhelmed don't hesitate to come speak to me or anyone else, it's what we're all here for." Adjustments in training can always be made.
Why was she not surprised by this? The professor laughed softly shaking her head. "Is that so? I never would have guessed." Joking. She had indeed noticed the potion stuck to Noelle's book at the beginning of the term. "Prefect. I will be here." With that Cami saw herself out, she was a busy women and had a lot to do if she was going to need at least a few hours free tomorrow.
*****
There had been a few things that came up earlier in the morning that Camilla had to take care of. It wasn't anything drastic or major but it had forced her to move a few things around in her schedule so that she could meet with Noelle for the consumption and transformation dealing with the previous days potion brewing.
She may have been a few minutes later than intended but Cami arrived at the potions lab. Seeing Noelle already there she entered the room. "How is the potion looking? All ready?"

Noelle had signed into the potions classroom book again. She didn't know if she was supposed to. But she was in the room again so she figured she might as well. She was only going to grab her potion and go to be honest. Hopefully Professor Stewart would be here soon and they could take the potion outside.
Hearing a voice, Noelle looked behind her and smiled at the professor as she stirred in the dog hair. "It looks great actually. Smells like its supposed to too. I wish we could add like a neutralizer to make it taste better." She said with a little grin before going over to the professor with the two vials. Everything else was already cleaned up and ready to go. "Here you go. One for you." she said handing one of them over. "I figured we could probably go outside to like the courtyard or the grounds to take them?' She asked. She remembered taking it with Hady. They played. It was fun. After the initial pain of the transformation anyways.
"What do you think?"
It was now spring time so it felt a lot better outside.
Otter This World ♡ Catpurrccino ♡ Slotherin ♡ Pandamonium
Professor Stewart watched from closer to the doorway just inside the room. There was no real need to follow Noelle around when the potion was basically finished and just needed the animal hair added to it. Hearing her say it smelled like it should made Cami laugh quietly. "It's been awhile since I've done this but that smell and taste isn't something you can forget, is it?" Especially the taste. How she hated that part but just wait until she had to drink the potion for her true transformation.
Accepting the vial that was handed to her she lifted it up to her face inspecting it, nodding in approval. "Very nice." It looked just as it should. "I'm glad you suggested going outdoor since we'll have more room out there. What is it we're changing into this afternoon?" She knew the list of hairs recommended for this potion and it wasn't to long of a list but she was curious what Noelle had chosen.
Vial in hand she turned to Noelle. "Let's head outside and get started." No sense in standing around, they could continue to talk on the way.

It wasn't the most challenging of the solutions but it was still pretty good as far as practicing went. Which was what Nicholas Tate needed and brewing in general what Levi enjoyed, so he'd scheduled their brewing session and sent a birdie accordingly. And because he had seen intercepted birdies before, he had taken care to send a first year after the Hufflepuff and let him know time and date and location of said brewing session. Just in case. Brewing was a pretty serious business, regardless of the complexity--or lack thereof-- of the potion in question.
And there was always room for creativity, anyway.
He shrugged off his messenger bag and claimed a workstation.

Levi's cleanliness had already been made evident, but his punctuality was a new discovery. It was a (weirdly pleasant, in the eyes of Nicholas Tate) surprise to receive messages concerning their brewing session by owl and by way of what seemed like a small minion.
Although, after what happened to Olivia, he would never again trust first years.
Blind compliance was unnerving and suspicious, he decided on his way to the dungeons. And that sentiment made this little get-together all the more odd. Why did Levi want to help him, exactly? The motives were questionable, but Nicky sure appreciated them... whatever they were. It would be nice to get through OWLs with no Troll marks.
"Hullo." He ducked out of the bag strung across his gangly frame, settling beside Levi at his workstation of choice. It seemed like he'd already signed them in. Prepared— he added that to the ever-growing list of Kenning qualities.

Unaware of Nicholas' misgivings as he was, Levi was fully delved into collecting ingredients when the Hufflepuff boy arrived. He sent him a slightly distracted wave over his shoulder, and lazily flicked ingredients towards the work station. All two of the needed ones for the potions were there, and honestly, several that were decidedly not. He appreciated the freedom to do as he wished with an already established potion and its instructions, thus saw no problems at all with taking some creative liberties.
The worst that could have was some minor explosion, surely. Nothing this lab hadn't seem before, at any rate.
"We're going to brew a confounding potion." Squill bulb for a smoother texture? Maybe. He sent it to the table, too. "It's pretty basic and shouldn't require us to wind up getting toupees."

"I dunno. It's been a few weeks since I last singed my hair. It could use another trim." And the fact that the two giveaway ingredients before Nicholas rang no bells in his mind was warning enough— this would likely end in fire. But when Levi mentioned the potion he wanted to brew, it was somewhat relaxing. Confounding Concoctions. He knew how to work with those.
.... or at least he thought he did. All that knowledge had been obtained before his exposure to Gryffindors with a knack for unorthodox experimentation. Now, surveying the extra materials strewn around their workstation, the fifth year could not fathom what he'd agreed to do.
"What's this for?" After washing his hands (cross-contamination was probably the only lab catastrophe Nicky could avoid), he picked up a bulb thing.
It looked like something Paul Myers would parade around a greenhouse. Maybe marry.

Levi was unclear if Nicholas was joking or not, but he barked out a laugh anyway as he marched back to the work station. "I s'ppose that's more exciting than just using diffindo. Or scissors." He held a jar with preserved tulsi, which he carefully placed near the other ingredients. "Though possibly not as precise."
He began to clean up the pewter cauldron with a handy scourgify, and brought his potions kit out of his bag. His favourite pair of scissors were there, as always, which he proceeded to clean with another sweep of his wand along with the rest of the kit. Lastly went his hands, which perhaps he wouldn't have had to take care of if he'd brought his gloves, but. Whatever. The trip back to the Gryffindor common room was... long and he'd likely not return if he saw his bed.
"Hmm? squill bulbs." Unnecessarily, really--Nicholas had asked what it was for not what it was. His smile was a little apologetic. "To smooth down the potion's texture. Enough that if you add it to a beverage the drinker wouldn't notice there's something off about the... taste. Or feel." All strictly theoretical, of course. And so, "that's the plan, anyway."

No, he was definitely not joking. But his hair had grown enough since Genny first trimmed off the burnt bits; Nicholas was no longer sporting the crazy fringed look. "That's what I was going for, anyway. I like to live life on... err..... the wild side."
This morning, he'd even put cinnamon in his oats. So wild.
Now, he COULD have helped Levi clean their materials, but the older boy was far better at it. Nicky preferred to just watch. It was wonderful, really, to work with someone so tidy and sure. He'd not often had that privilege, seeing as he figuratively brought little to the table— and literally, in this case. Kenning had gathered all the ingredients, too.
"Right. Texture. So I should try to add things as well?" Recipes weren't exactly set in stone, he knew, yet never before had he attempted to deviate from one. His Gryffindor companion, on the other hand, was no stranger to that. Perhaps today was his time to start.
With more motivation than usual, Nicholas went to go collect his own additives. He was a badger! He could find stuff (maybe)!

Levi could not help but to turn to look at Nicholas Tate, in question. He surveyed the younger boy from head to toe, trying to do his best at being sneaky about the way in which he surveyed him from head to toe. If true, whatever wildness the Hufflepuff claimed to possess--or that would have rubbed off on him by his trips to the wild side, surely--was not easily spotted. "Really." He didn't sound dubious, though he could not help but to struggle against his eyebrows' need to shoot up. Gestures did speak louder than words, sometimes. "What's the wildest thing you've done, then?"
Grabbing a measuring cup, Levi pointed his wand at it and let a weak stream of aguamenti flow out. "I don't see why you wouldn't." He stopped the flow, watched him head over to fetch ingredients of his own. "What other effects are you looking for it to have? I brought over tulsi because it's meant to be relaxing." Confounding concoctions were unpredictable; it could make the drinker anxious and out of sorts, which could lead to violence. It was best to leave them confused but also perfectly at ease, if such a thing could even be achieved anyway.
He stopped the flow. and bent down low enough to be at eye level with the measuring cup. That looked like 500 millimeters to him. Or was it a little over the red line?
SPOILER!!: potions recipe
Ingredients:
water (500mL)
jobberknoll feathers (2 barbs)
leeches (juiced; 1-2)
Instructions:
Bring water to a boil
Separate the barbs from the shafts of 2 jobberknoll feathers
Place barbs in boiling water and stir 12 times clockwise and 7 times counter-clockwise
Boil for 30 minutes
Add leech juice by squeezing one leech into the cauldron and stir in an unpredictable fashion
Keep stirring until potion should thickens (within 5 minutes)
If potion does not thicken after 10 minutes of stirring, add another leech and continue to stir unpredictably until thickened
If potion has still not thickened after an additional 10 minutes, start another brew.

A sheepish smile played on his lips. Speaking in jest was rare for Nicky, so Levi's skepticism was unsurprising. "I was joking. Though I did once explode my mam's tea table with a rocket launcher." Her garden furniture bore the brunt of it, anyway; the house had only been a little bit on fire.
"Perhaps I could go for more effective in general." Rather than try to engineer the potion to serve different interests, he could work on strengthening the results. This particular recipe had never made sense to Nicholas— jobberknoll feathers were traditionally used to make memories more accessible, which directly contrasted an end goal of confusion. Maybe it had something to do with separating the shaft and barbs? He wasn't sure.
But what fun was certainty? "Lovage? It causes brain inflammation, right?" The OWL studying had to have paid off somewhat. "If it's only slight, it should add a mental fog." And he wasn't too worried about its knack for inducing belligerence, considering that was drawn out by other ingredients.
The Hufflepuff glanced back at Levi, having located the leaves but wanting a second opinion. Whenever he was done with that meniscus.

It was definitely over the line, a fact the sixth year acknowledged by making a small, irritated sound in the back of his throat. He disposed of the water with a flick of his wand and started the stream again. Although, in truth, it was really more like... drops.
Drip drip drip drip drip.
Better safe than sorry, would say... absolutely no one he was particularly close to but a philosophy he was absolutely willing adopt at all times when it came to brewing. "What?" He sounded distinctly distracted, Nicholas' words taking some time to fully register. Then he barked out a startled laugh, his wand shaking as the rest of his body did, losing focus and causing the water sprouting from his wand to become a stream. It sprayed out of the cup, spilled into the table. "Was that purposely done or was it entirely an accident? Or did you pretend that it was an accident?"
Water slid off the work station, landing on his shoes and the stone floor. Belatedly, Levi took a step back, and hastily set to drying everything off with a hot air charm. "That's..." Dangerous if done incorrectly, which was a total possibility; this was so completely off the book experimenting it was probably not the sort of thing the Potions mistress would approve of. "...an interesting addition to the potion, actually." It wasn't a lie. He shot Nicholas a searching look; in truth, this wasn't the sort of contribution he'd been expecting from someone who'd admitted to not being particularly good at Potions. "But I think brain inflammation may lead to vomiting," among other things he was presently ignoring, "but the tusil can take care of that, actually. We'd just need to add some more to balance it out."

It was very unfortunate that so much time was spent perfecting the water volume, only for it to be ruined by an oddly unexpected comment. The laughter was startling at first; but after a moment endured watching a spray cover their workstation, Nicholas also broke out in a chuckle.
"Accident. I could build it correctly. I just wasn't the best at the angling." That remained true to this day. Someone could be ready to catch a Quaffle three feet away— he'd still end up tossing it in the opposite direction.
And his head worked like his hands. Nicky felt as if he was on an entirely different page with this ingredient addition, especially after vomiting was brought up. He was about to shut the cupboard door when Levi suggested using tulsi to lessen the effects. "... all right. We can add a very, very little bit." Which wasn't a very precise measurement, but sounded good to him all the same.
The jar of lovage leaves secured in his spindly fingers, he returned to their cauldron. "What's the wildest thing you've done?"

It took several times for the boy to get the exact amount of water at which point it became difficult not to clap for his own, minor accomplishment. He settled instead for a small grin, and looked up and back at Nicholas the other boy explained. "Oh! You like to build stuff, yeah." Pauses. "Does that mean you didn't read the blue prints correctly? Wait, no--blue prints are for houses and buildings, right?"
......."Instructions? Set up guide?"
Levi had the fire running in no time and quickly poured in the water into the cauldron. He shot the Hufflepuff a sidelong glance at the question, supposing that it made sense. Nicholas had shared something about him; it was logical he did the same in return. "The entirety of the IMPS, for one." It was true. "I had a panic attack when I was selected," He pointed out, candidly. "But other than that, my mother really wanted me to be... musical, I suppose." He was unclear on how to call it, in any case. "But I have no talent for it. So, I flung my violin down the stairs and pretended it was an accident." Levi shrugged, keeping an eye on the simmering water inside the cauldron, and doing his best at keeping a self-satisfied grin off his face. "She didn't buy it, of course, but she couldn't proof it had been done on purpose, so I was free."
Of course, the violin lessons had been replaced by piano ones. At which he'd pitched a fit and had been enrolled in fencing. A singularly better choice than the other two, even if he'd nearly poked his own eye out more than once.

"Instructions, right." Nicholas nodded, eyes examining the older boy's hands as he poured water into the cauldron. They were good and capable (especially at cleaning things!), and he idly wondered if he could ever get those fingers to assist him with any projects one day. It was always useful to have another dexterous person nearby, even in a setting where he wasn't so... lost. Like here.
After washing his hands again, wanting to avoid any potential contamination on the outside of the lovage jar, the fifth year located the Jobberknoll feathers. Two, yes? "I followed them just fine all the way through... with some minor modifications. I'm better at that sort than the potion kind," he grinned, "but my aim wasn't great. The fire was super small, though. And my tad thought it was funny."
As the older boy spoke, Nicky scourgified a pair of tweezers and began separating the feather components. "I didn't watch any of your challenges," he admitted without an ounce of shame, dropping the barbs in a beaker which he'd previously cleaned. "Was she musical as well as athletic? Thea mentioned she was a Quidditch player." The purposefully destructive nature of the story was surprising, but he found himself smiling despite the obvious Gryffindorness of it all.
"How'd you break it badly enough to avoid a mending charm? I hated instruments too, but that takes some effort." Talent, maybe.

For someone who claimed to be not particularly great at Potions, Nicholas was doing a fine job with the feathers, which Levi was about to remark upon, but refrained. What if he was one of those who got... stage fright? Not that this was a stage or there was a crowd, of course, but still. "Minor modifications." Laughter was evident in his voice, and it was because of the comment that Levi could see how Nicholas could be related to a Gryffindor like Genny Tate. "Why did you have a rocket launcher on the first place?"
He peered into the cauldron, squinting at the small bubbles forming in the surface of the water already. "You didn't miss much." Not strictly true, but Levi found he could sleep better at night if he didn't think too much about the nature of the challenges. "I stabbed a dementor, fought the Whomping Willow in a dream, saved mum from a tundra and didn't get bitten by a three headed snake." He frowned; it all sounded more exciting than it actually had been--which was terrifying. No wonder his stomach had initially rejected two of them. "Very fun." Things that Gryffindors were supposedly meant to find exhilarating and yet. He'd thrown up twice and cried that same amount of times, too. "Oh, not at all. But mum is French." That ought to explain it, surely.
A smile tugged at his lips as the water began to bubble in earnest and with his tweezers, dropped in the barbs. "It nearly broke in half, which I think could have been mended. But I was in the verge of tears and papa decided to spare me."
