A Pep Rally..
Great, more noise and people. Two things that the librarian wasn't fond of.. But as he wandered onto the school grounds, he instantly spotted the refreshment table and made a bee line towards it.
Cake.
If there was anything that could make this pep rally better, it was cake. He moved to pick up a piece before his green eyes scanned the area, was he looking for someone? If he was, it was clear he didn't see them and he sighed and smoothed down his robes with his green tie, and pin..
Slytherin, yo!
Kalen shook his head and picked up his fork and stuck some cake into his mouth. So.. where was the tea?

Brent was actually really looking forward to this pep rally. As a American-born boy, it was cool hearing some music and seeing some food from his home country. He kind of hoped this would be a drama-free event, but with the way things were going lately, he was doubting that. He got the sinking feeling he wasn't well-accepted by their American guests, and for the life of him, he couldn't figure out why. He had literally no recollection of any negativity he'd been involved in while at Ilvermorny. Maybe it was just the crowd the school had sent over. Maybe he just didn't click with them as well as he had some of his old American friends.
Whatever.
He decided to not think about that any longer than he already had, because this was supposed to be a fun event, and he intended to have a little bit of fun before being tossed back into the arena. Plus, there was cake, and lots of it. Brent decided to hang out a bit and wait for some friends and his girl to get here before he dove into the food. He gave a wave to the Librarian, who was currently enjoying a pretty nice looking piece of cake. Cake was Brent's goal to reach within the next...two minutes or so.
Alright, so where was everybody at? Let's get this party started.

Alright, so where was everybody at? Let's get this party started.
Time flew when one was having fun. Two months of pepping up the Slytherin Common Room with 'Team Brent' buttons everywhere, including the one pinned proudly on her robes and the day of the pep rally was finally here. Skylar could barely focus during classes that day, which was strange in itself, but she was just a bundle of nerves and could only imagine how her person was feeling.
Making her way out to the grounds, with a gift bag (filled with more 'Team Brent' buttons), Skylar gazed around at all the various things before finding the table with the refreshments. And her person standing there, it seemed deliberating whether or not to have a piece of cake.
The librarian was there too, and he didn't wait AT ALL before digging in. Grinning when she spotted the green tie and pin, Skylar approached him first. "Team Brent?" she grinned, handing the librarian a pin. Yes, she was so owning this team leadership thing.
And now to the boy ... "I assume you're rooting for yourself too?" and she pulled a pin out for him too. "So I heard there was a pie eating contest?" Because she was so not having cake, if that was the case. She had a contest to win.
Also, was that a paintball area?!?

Brent had just ran his hand through his hair and performed a master hair flip, when he saw his girl heading his way. He grinned and watched her as she first approached the librarian and then him. "Team Brent buttons?" he asked, grinning at her and accepting the one she held out to him. "You're pretty amazing, you know that?" He didn't want to get all mushy with her just yet, but she was seriously an awesome girlfriend. He gave her a kiss on the cheek before glancing up to randomly catch a game of paintball being organized.
WHOOOOA. That looked awesome!
...and what was even more awesome was the fact the headmistress was standing over there ready for battle. Brent wasn't quite sure if he was ready to take on the headmistress, but in a way, it seemed kind of cool. "Skylar?" he asked, his eyes still on the paintball area, "how do you feel about paintball?"

Kalen managed to swallow his cake right before two students came up to him, he smiled at them both. "Mr Westwood, Miss Diggory, how are you two today? " He asked curiously..
He had watched them in the challenge and had been pretty impressed with how the Slytherin boy had done with everything. "Congratulations Mr. Westwood for making it into the finals. " Slytherins represent right? Kalen was excited that a snake had made it into the final four!
He smiled warmly at Miss Diggory as she handed him a pin and he took it and fixed it to his robes.
Might as well, yeah? There was only one other student he would have been rooting for and sadly she didn't make it to the finals.. Now his attention didn't have to be divided.
"Thank you! Go team Brent! " He said as he took another bite of cake.

Skylar grinned when he said she was amazing and took one of the buttons. "Anytime, we do have a pretty amazing person to support." Totally her completely bias opinion, but hey, she had a feeling the Team Levi supporters were going to be loud and good rivals. "But thank you," she said, when he kissed her cheek. Her attention was waving though, because pie and paintball.
"Doing quite well, Mr Kennedy," Skylar answered of his question. Ah good, she had suspected right with his loyalties, but then again, the attire might have been a giveaway. And what was that, which Brent asked? Did he even have to ask? It was as if he didn't know her.
"Running around, getting sweaty and coloured with paint? What's not to enjoy?" And that was basically her way of saying, she was in. She was all in.
Attention back on the librarian. "You're welcome! And I think we're going to go play some paintball," but wait, was the headmistress standing over there? "And hopefully convince the Headmistress to be on our side." Although, she might have the slight temptation to hit her just once if she could as sort of payback for misjudging her back in September.

Kitty strolled over to the table where the cake was. Mainly she here for the pictures. Cake could come later!
"Hey Skylar, Brent!" the Goth greeted the Slytherins cheerfully. "I like your dress, Skylar." She whizzed out her camera and took a picture of the cakes.
The librarian was also here, at first she hadn't seen him. "Hey Professor Kennedy, do you like the rally? I think it's great."

Brent's eyebrows raised in surprise as he watched the Librarian fix a "Team Brent" pin to his robes. Whoooa. People were actually going to support him? People other than Kane and Skylar? He hadn't counted on that, what with Ilvermorny's super high scores. It kind of gave him the ammunition he needed boost his confidence for the final round. "Cool!" he said, casting a glance toward Kennedy. "Thanks for the support!"
"What's up, Kitty?" he said, greeting the Ravenclaw prefect. "We're off to play some paintball, but we'll see you around." Paintball first. Cake later. Hearing Kitty's comment toward Skylar, Brent looked at his girlfriend's dress and smiled. "You do look pretty hot. Your boyfriend must be one lucky guy." Then on that note, he reached over and grabbed her hand then headed off toward the paintball field.
It was a mere matter of lexicon that had Valerie dragging her feet down to this little social gathering. The absence of pep would have made her attendance more palatable as there was not much pep the Wampus felt when it came to the competition. There were still scars (visible only to herself) over what her pride and ambition had exposed Ryan to and she had spent the first week upon the completion of the third task questioning whether or not her continued efforts were worth it. Despite her brief discussion with Ryan in which he had validated her commitment to compete ("But it's for your future, Val Val!"), her heart no one believed she possessed felt heavy.
Heavy and more stressed. More on edge. More in desperate need for an outlet.
Somehow slipping on her combat boots, she had departed the Beetle and made her way over to the festivities. Thoughts weighing heavily upon on mind, it began hitting her that her time abroad was quickly coming to a close and did not know when another opportunity to travel overseas would arise again. Things certainly had not played out as she had hoped and she still had a bitter aftertaste in her mouth whenever she thought of their temporary residence on the Hogwarts grounds, isolated in an Ilvermorny bubble. Add preparing for each task to her already difficult persona and socializing was rather difficult. Saver for, perhaps, that one young Hogwartian wearing bunny slippers she had assisted outside the doors of the Hogwarts castle cafeteria. Or whatever its name was.
Perhaps things could have been different were she not right in the thick of competition.
Not being one particularly fond of sweets (with a few special exceptions) it was ironic that she found herself here. Then again, there were a fair few things in Valerie Gray's existence as of late that were so.
Electing to ignoring the Team Brent pin discussion as she surveyed the choice of sweets, Valerie attempted to figured out the British options seeing as time was running out to taste true authentic dishes. She really did not wish to think about people's faces on pins. While it of course came with being selected by the Book of Merlin, the Wampus was hardly about the glory or recognition. Furthermore she was still trying to stomach the thought of some small blonde Hogwartian boy running around with her face on a T-shirt.
Perhaps she would try this sponge looking sandwich cake with whipped cream and some sort of jam between layers? Did it have a name?

Gaston wanted no part in the IMPS competition anymore. The time that had passed since the third challenge hadn't dulled or changed his feelings. He had begrudgingly showed up to the event, though not because he was excited for the final challenge or because his presence was expected. He was here for Levi and Brent. Supporting the students who still remained in the competition was the only thing he cared about now.
Unlike the other people he saw, Gaston wasn't wearing a particular house's colors. The Gryffindor scarf and lion pin he'd worn to all the other IMPS events were gone, traded for an entirely black outfit that matched his mood. he scoffed under his breath. This was a joke! A rally to celebrate putting innocent lives on the line... how barbaric!
He was not taking part in the games or the cheering, so he made a beeline for the refreshments. He grabbed a coffee and a couple of chocolate cupcakes. Well, at least the food was good, and he had to admit they were playing some great music! He managed a small smile for the students he saw. "Hello, Mr. Westwood, Miss Diggory, Miss Valentine," he greeted them. A polite nod of acknowledgement was given to the Ilvermorny champion (Valerie). He would've said hello to her too, but he didn't get he idea that she wanted to talk... not that he could blame her after the atrocity that was the last challenge.
And Kalen was here too. The librarian received a small smile and polite nod from Gaston. "Hello, Kalen," he said. "Enjoying the food?"

Kalen smiled warmly at Skylar as she spoke and he nodded. "I'm glad to hear it Miss Diggory, enjoy today, yeah? " He said with a smile as he watched the girl with her boyfriend. They certainly didn't look worse for wear after their last challenge. At least some people were okay with it.
He turned his attention towards Brent and smiled. "Of course, I was a Slytherin back in the day, so my loyalties will stay with my house.. "Especially now that a certain Thunderbird wasn't in the competition anymore.
He cleared his throat at that thought and then turned to smile down at Miss Valentine who had appeared before him. "Well Hello Miss Valentine. " He said, and took a minor pause in considering her question. "It is pretty cool isn't it? " Crowds and noise weren't really his thing.. but he was enjoying the cake.. so it really wasn't all bad.
He turned to see one of the Ilvermornian finalists walking towards the cake and he gave her a friendly nod.. but other than that.. not much else. Lest he anger her.
He was distracted though as the Charms Professor came up to him and he grinned. "Hello Gaston, I most certainly am, this cake is amazing. How about you? " He asked with a warm smile.
mentions of everyone! And apparently being pulled off toward paintball, so bye? :3

And people were starting to finally mill out here now which was exciting! There was the Ravenclaw Prefect and Professor Marchand, the latter of whom didn't seem all that peppy for some reason. Was he not content about one of his own making it into the final four? He didn't seem off in the way he'd been all year, but it was a different kind of 'off'. Like, he was in mourning kind of off.
"Hey Kitty, Aww thanks," It wasn't really much, just a quick skirt and shirt, but it was nice to know she looked cute. She curtsied a little for effect. Hmm, who was the girl supporting during the final competition? Eh, it couldn't hurt... "Brent supporter?" she asked, holding out a button for her, if she wanted.
Hearing Brent's feedback about the outfit comment, she smiled, "Why thank you. Ah yes, I've been told that."
"Hi Professor Marchand ... and well, bye too," she muttered as her hand was taken and she was being dragged off toward the paintball field. Ah, she'd get him later with a button if he wanted.
Oh look, Valerie too, who seemed her usual cheery self. Not. Skylar still hadn't quite figured out was up with her, but she did send a brief smile her way, as she headed toward the paintball field. Maybe she was just overly competitive and ambitious?

Valerie and anyone else who wants to speak with us
There was a horribly metallic crunching noise under her foot as Melanie stepped on something on her way to the cake break area. Bending over to pick it up, she realized it was a Brent button. For Brent Westwood, aka, traitor. That little transfer. Melanie let it clatter back to the ground, her eyes finding Valerie amongst all the gibbering of students and....professors.
Let it be known, Melanie Williams did not gibber with anyone.
"Valerie." Melanie nodded at her as she stopped next to the girl. "Have you seen any apple pie?" She very much wanted some apple pie right now. Apple pie or peach cobbler. This was a CAKE break, though, and some people were adamant about pies never being included in a cake party. Pies should be considered part of the cake community... she thought grumpily to herself.

Zoryn was HERE. Mostly for the cake and less to have anything to do with school spirit, but she was here and that is all that mattered in the moment. She still hadn't quite come to terms with how she felt about the IMPS any more though... After that last round, the competition didn't sit so well with her. It made her tummy feel all funny. Up until that point she had been having an absolute BLAST. 'Cause after all, it was just a game right??? Well until it made Dora really sad and mad and put Levi's mother in danger and y'know the rest.
Weird. It felt weird.
But she still had school spirit and still loved cake, SO of course she was here and as chipper and LOUD as ever. "Yooooooooooooo!" she almost RAN to the cake!table in all her excitement!!! "SO MUCH CAKE!!!" Her parents would never allow her to ingest the amount of sugar she was about to have. But what they didn't know couldn't hurt them, it could only hurt Zoryn. Didn't need the divination Professor to see the sugar rush that was in this second year's future. Holy noodles!!! Zoryn was SO excited!!!
In all her joyous glory, she may have accidentally bumped into Valerie rather forcefully.... Possibly sending her arm in the direction of some whipped cream topped pastry... ".... Oopsie?" she looked up at the girl and batted her lashes SUPER innocently. And for the record, this was an accident but Zoryn didn't feel as bad as she would've had it been someone other than the person who had sent a silencing charm her way. Just sayin'. "You probably shouldn't just stand here if you're just gonna stare," she was being helpful. "Cake is for eating." Not looking at. See, Zoryn was being SUPER nice and giving the older girl TIPS. (She was still a little upset about the ordeal in the stands, but fortunately for both of them... She had a hard time holding on to grudges. Too easily distracted for that).

Days of Potter 2023:___________________________ Which Bertie Botts Flavour Are You?
Irene had heard that there was cake here and she needed some STAT. And she found treats AND PEOPLE.
Ooh yipeeeeeeee!
Ahem. Best behaviour. Or she'd attempt it.
She made her way over to the table, gracefully greeting the Hogwartian Charms Professor. "Professor Marchand, is it? I hope you are wel!" she said, crossing her fingers as she hoped she said his name or at least got it right. Then there was the adult that some of her fellow schoolmates had gushed about. "Hello!" Happy smile because she was feeling more like herself. Then Skylar and Brent had just disappeared. Sad. But there was another girl there (Kitty). "Hi!" Happy wave for this girl. Maybe another person she could befriend. "I'm Irene Avery. What's going on? I hear they have cake here but what kind..?"
OOH. SCORE.
But standing by the cake was Professor Williams and Valerie Gray. She tended a little at the sight of Valerie after the interesting confrontation that she had witnessed between her best friend and the Wampus. Speaking of the event and the competition, Irene was glad that she was out of it. Sure, she had enjoyed her time but the last task that she had participated in made her feel less confident in herself and her own capabilities as a witch and perhaps as a person.... Yes, she was bummed that Aurora didn't make it through but she was also secretly relieved that her friend wouldn't have to go through the torturous events any longer. The last event had just been cruel even to Valerie Gray. Though Irene couldn't help but agree with Aurora with how poorly Valerie acted in general. She wondered what had made the girl the way she was. Pressure from parents? Super dark secret? Perhaps.
And she used to be afraid of her but for some reason... She wasn't anymore. Valerie was just another girl who she didn't particularly warm too but she'd never ill wish her. So she decided to congratulate her. And had she overheard something about pie? "Professor Williams, pardon the interruption." See? Manners? "I happened to overhear the comment about pie. I haven't seen any but I'm sure if there are house elves nearby, they would be happy to help. They're wonderful," she said with a nod and a happy smile. The house elves had been really kind to her especially when she had shown up in the kitchen with tear stained cheeks after the second task. She had just been so disappointed and they had let her speak about it and offered her several cups of tea to calm her. It was a very kind guesture and she was grateful.
If she had learned anything from this competition, it was to, of course, be herself but also learn to lower her volume. Irene was going to find Kyle and Levi and congratulate them so she would have to be fair and congratulate everyone. Irene turned to Valerie and smiled. Even if Valerie didn't like her, Irene didn't care anymore. Too long she had wondered why the girl disliked her. Was it the way she looked or because she enjoyed herself too much? Who knew. To Irene, it was physically exhausting to worry about that anymore. She didn't have the time. So instead, she stopped worrying and decided to congratulate her fellow schoolmate. Good sportsmanship was important. "Congrats, Valerie. That must have been a hard event to go through. I couldn't imagine going through it myself. I was cheering for you in the stands."
And then there was the ickle lioness who loved the world "gullible". Uh oh... Was Zoryn going to...? Irene nodded in the direction of the younger student. "Zoryn, going to bring back the gullible trick?" she offered with a wink. "Great commentating by the way."
She vaguely caught the glimpses of the two Hogwarts professors in her direction and offered a slight brow raise in return. Disappointing that as educators neither elected to inform her on the country's cuisine choices but then again she had not voiced her quarry either. Skylar and Brenton seemed to be taking their leave which she supposed would make all these sweets more palatable going down.
Her brow raised further with the appearance of Professor Williams and her inquiry of apple pie. The woman had eyes. Could she not see for herself? Swallowing her thoughts and taking pause, the Wampus indicated with one of her deceptively slender fingers towards what appeared to be apple pie all the way in the back. She was just about to ask the professor if she knew what this cake was she had decided to sample was called when the seventeen year old was bumped suddenly. Taken by surprise, her body hunched forward and her arm did, in fact, lung forward and found home in the entirety of the whipped cream topping.
The Calming Draught was working. Although Ryan's plea to her may have been enough to steady her hand even if she had not taken one when she saw just who it was that had bumped her.
"And you, Zoryn Spinnet, ought to pay more heed where your feet take you," she replied coolly with a surprisingly gentle expression as one of her fingers scooped some whipped cream off her elbow and flicked it at the younger girl, the sweet goop landing right between her brows. Valerie found it admirable that of all the people present it was thing younger girl who was the one to not shy away from her and actually speak to her robustly. Interesting. "However, seeing as you consider yourself to be a cake expert, perhaps you can tell me what this particular one is called?" she inquired with a nod to the layered cake she had been examining earlier.
Her attention was soon averted to the likes of Irene whose overtly cheery disposition quite frankly always bothered the sixth year. Although even those reasons were thickly layered. But it was not the Pukwudgie's disposition that had taken her aback at this moment and it was difficult to mask her surprise. "...thank you," she some how forced herself to say in a rare glimpse of humility. "I am just pleased my bro--- cousin is alright."

….. Oh geez. She recognized that voice. Zoryn pretty much had to BRACE HERSELF (is this how people felt about her too?) before turning around to meet Irene’s gaze. “Uh, maybe but you can’t just go around asking me about it! If I want it to be successful no one can know that it’s a TRICK,” she STAGE!WHISPERED. This girl SO did not understand the point of pranks. Zoryn was slightly disappointed in her. Tsk tsk. What a shame, really. “Thanks,” Zoryn grinned at the compliment! “I’m practicing for my future career,” she informed the girl. “Uhh…. Great watching!”
What? Zoryn wanted to say something nice back toooooo. But there wasn’t all that much to say. The girl had gotten out really early on in the competition. There wasn’t anything Zoryn could do to sugar coat it. But she was still trying to be all friendly, y’know? Observing was cool too. Sorta.
The second year eyed the cake layout. She wanted one piece of EVERYTHING.
“Can’t make any promises!” She replied to Valerie Gray all sweet and sing-songy. Though, it was AWESOME that Valerie knew her name! Zoryn had to learn all their names because she was commentating the challenge, but there wasn’t any requirement for the competitors to learn hers. Which meant that she had left an impression. The Gryffindor was quite pleased with herself, thank you very much. And unlike Valerie, she showed a visible reaction to be whipped-creamed.
Narrowing her eyes slightly, she made to wiping the goop off her forehead with a single finger before sticking it into her mouth. Whipped cream “HEY!” Zoryn’s had been an ACCIDENT…. For the most part. “I know you think I’m an easy target ‘cause I’m small,” that’s pretty much what Levi had said, right? “But just so you know, I’m not scared of you.” It was important. Zoryn probably couldn’t beat the girl at anything, BUT she’d definitely put up a fight!!! As for the cake, “Victoria sponge cake. Best with tea,” But why Valerie needed to know it’s name was beyond her. Did it matter what the cake was called? It was still gonna taste the same no matter what? Did Americans have to introduce themselves to the cake before eating it or something? Weird.
“You should try some,” it was gooooood. “Unless you’re a cake hater or something.” Zoryn wouldn’t be surprised.

Valerie was not sure who the little Hogwartian was attempting to fool with her batting eyelashes and sing song tone, but she certainly was not swayed. Although the actions were just enough to cause the right corner of her lips to twitch upwards. There was even an almost affectionate gleam to her eyes when Zoryn Spinnet ate the whipped cream (briefly recalling a different time) until the younger girl proceeded to speak.
And something in her chest knotted.
An easy target. Valerie Gray had been officially labeled a bully and suddenly the cake she had been inquiring about may as well have been a pound of rotten meat. She supposed she could not blame anyone for the label (particularly not after Aurora's emotional display post task in which the Wampus had found her accusations so absurd she had not felt the need to defend herself. Along with simply electing to allow the Horned Serpent to take out her frustrations on the sixth year) but this struck a chord in her. Not that there was any indication of such externally. "I do not think you an easy target nor is stature something I concern myself with," she replied in an almost defeated tone. "You asked to be turned off and I capitalized on a need."
Surely enough of an explanation. She would have done the same regardless of age.
"Victoria sponge cake," she repeated with a nod as she lifted the cake from the table and retrieved a fork with a bit of a vacant expression. "No, I am not a cake hater." Although her stomach was still twisting uncomfortable that perhaps in this moment she was. Pausing a moment before sticking her fork into the sponge and feeling the prongs cut through it like a hot knife through butter, the Wampus glanced down at the girl once more.
"I am pleased that you are not afraid of me," she offered as an after thought.

Tristan begrudgingly headed for the cake table. If he was going to endure a Pep Rally, he was going to need cake. LOTS of cake. It wasn't that he didn't enjoy them, it was just that he had so much work that needed to be done with the creatures, as well as grading homework and other assignments....he couldn't brain. He just. Couldn't. Brain.
BUT this was part of his job and he needed to be here to support his students. Tristan quickly picked up a piece of chocolate cake that looked so moist he wanted to bathe in it, and started walking around, greeting people as he went. "Hello, everyone!" He said with a grin and chocolate crumbs in his beard.

If Zoryn Spinnet was more observant, she would've noticed the upward motion of Valerie Gray's lips and would've mirrored it in return. Unfortunately Zoryn Spinnet was not very observant and didn't catch the small change in the older girl's demeanor. It was rather unfortunate to be honest, because perhaps Zoryn's quickly made opinion of the girl would've seen a change.
The second year didn't exactly believe Valerie's defense. She believed Levi more and he had said that it was probably due to her status as an easy target. Which... Made sense. "I needed help to stop the charm." Duh. "Not to make my voice disappear. And you knew what I meant!" There was no way that the older girl had just been trying to help. Zoryn didn't buy that. It was done with malicious intent!!! "All I'm saying is, you didn't have to take your anger out on me 'cause I'm not the person you were mad at," she crossed her arms, feeling awfully brave. There was a difference in size here... And Valerie was probably the most intimidating person she had ever met in her ENTIRE life... But Zoryn didn't even think twice before voicing any of her thoughts. Gryffindor much?
"Mhm," she waited expectantly as Valerie picked the cake up, hoping for some kind of all-revealing reaction. Zoryn didn't like it much that she couldn't tell what the sixth year was thinking. It was weird. Everyone could ALWAYS tell what Zoryn was thinking. It was only common courtesy to do the same for her. "Good!" But the girl was taking an awfully long time to try it and the second year was slowly growing impatient.
And though it was a bit of a shock to learn that Valerie Gray was NOT in fact a 'cake-hater', it was even MORE shocking to hear what she had to say next. ".... You are?" she asked in a tone of utter disbelief. Uh, excuse me? She blinked a couple of times.

Days of Potter 2023:___________________________ Which Bertie Botts Flavour Are You?
Melanie did hear Irene’s comment, but she wasn’t entirely sure it was at all helpful. “Yes, I know about house elves, Avery. I just wasn’t planning on bothering them with such a trivial request,” she snapped.
…..And there was a small Hogwartian pestering Valerie, and Melanie was done with her search. Irritated with Irene, and not wanting to deal with this mosquito of a human, she gave Valerie a fleeting look before striding off without word.
Dora had decided... that it would be in poor taste to skip the pep rally. Ugh. Why was she such a good person?! This pep rally business was not her cup of tea, not even in the slightest. Not to mention that it was a completely foreign concept to the Brit, but it was also loud an kind of bordering on obnoxious.
But they had cake.
So that was a plus.
Moving closer to the cake place the blonde let her eyes wander around a bit before falling on her favorite baby lion. Zoryn Spinnet. Ugh. She was a complete Gryffindor. To the bone. But who was she speaking to? Craning her neck a bit the Gryffindor's eyes found Valerie Gray and narrowed a bit. After finding out that she had silenced Zoryn... well Dora didn't take kindly to that. No one messed with the baby lion but her! And she didn't mess with Zoryn even, but if she did it'd be okay .
For the moment she'd just linger nearby, but if she needed to pounce, she would.

Gaston's bright blue eyes scanned the area as more people arrived - or left, as in Miss Diggory's case. He chuckled a little as he watched the girl being dragged away. "Alright, bye then," he said. "Good luck in the paintball game!" The Ilvermorny professor (Melanie) received a polite nod in the way of a greeting but not much else. He was a little nervous around her, and besides, she was already talking to one of the Ilvermorny champions (Valerie) and he didn't want to interrupt.
One of the Ilvermorny girls (Irene) was coming this way. His eyes widened a bit when she spoke, though he wasn't sure what was more surprising: the fact that she'd remembered his name (and not said it wrong!) or that she was speaking to him at all! "Hello, Miss Avery," he replied with a slight smile. "Yes, I'm quite well, thank you. And you?" He dropped his gaze, lest his eyes betray his true emotions. Well, maybe quite well was an exaggeration. He was still sad and disgusted with the last challenge and with the IMPS competition in general, but he didn't want to burden the girl with his feelings, especially when she'd been kind enough to approach him.
Another polite, though somewhat forced, smile for the two Gryffindor girls as they arrived. "Hello, Zoryn, Dora," Gaston said. Concerned eyes lingered on the Gryffindor champion for a split second. He knew the third challenge had been rough on her; he hoped she was feeling a bit better now! Then his attention went to the other Gyrffindor. Uh oh, this could be bad! He watched the interaction between Zoryn and Valerie, poised to intervene at a moment's notice.
He returned Kalen's grin with a small one of his own. "Yes, the food here is amazing," he agreed. That was one good thing he'd say about this travesty! Well, that and the music. "What flavor cake is that?" he asked, gesturing toward the librarian's plate. If it was as good as he said, he might have to try some. Then someone else showed up. "Hello, Tristan," he greeted the COMC professor. He couldn't help but notice the crumbs in his beard and exchanged a look with Kalen. Should they tell him?

Valerie presumed that the look from Professor Williams meant the Wampus ought to seek the woman out later. Unable to contain the tsk as her tongue clicked the roof of her mouth and lips curled up sideways into a bit of a sneer (because the History of Magic professor surely knew Valerie had no choice but to as she had much to discuss with both the woman and her twin brother) she reluctantly nodded her head obligingly. Insufferable woman.
Mostly unaware that the eyes of one Dora Umbridge (although not entirely ignorant), she resettled her gaze upon Zoryn Spinnet while letting her say her piece. Despite the obvious distress displayed by the younger girl beneath her bold and brave exterior, the seventeen year old felt no need to apologize for her actions. Had she been impulsive, of course. But she had technically done precisely as asked when everyone else around her was ignoring the younger girl. She had done the girl a favor and that was that. "You are correct. You were not the person I was upset with," she offered with a curt nod. But other than this, she felt no need to defend her actions. Besides, the little one was entitled to her own misguided opinion. Anything the sixth year said would unlikely sway her anyway.
Tearing her fork away from the cake and scooping up a small sampling, she lifted it to her pale pink lips with a pointed raise of a well sculpted brow towards Zoryn. "I am," she paused. "I ought to inform you that I have a distaste for repeating myself." Slipping the fork into her mouth, Valerie gently sucked the cake off the metallic surface and considered its flavor a moment before giving a small approving nod towards the plate balanced on her other hand. "But it is refreshing to find one so young and yet with more of a backbone than those meant to educate her," she added as an afterthought while her eyes glanced around at the Hogwarts professors.
