Etta stepped into the dueling arena confidently.. at least, she tried to LOOK confident. The fact that she was going to duel an older student for the first time was quite daunting, to say the least. But then again, she had to start somewhere.. right? She was glad professor Hirsch had given her this opportunity. Mhm. She smiled at the older girl with a brisk nod. "Good luck." 'Cause that was only polite. She pulled out her wand, quickly thinking. What did she want to begin with first? Nothing too simple, obviously. Ava was older, probably had more experience and Etta definitely didn't want to start off with a spell that would just put her on the back foot. She first casted a feather-light charm on herself. She really needed to be quick on her feet. Orbis. Etta quickly threw it at her opponent, casting the spell non-verbally. She'd been practicing non-verbal spells for a while now and she was almost good at it. Almost. They really did help in dueling, though. She waited, ready to throw up a shield any second. Surely, Ava would hit back with something soon enough. SPOILER!!: points tracker |
350 | 350 | 25 She didn't know if it's just her bad luck or Professor Hirsch just wanted her to had more challenge so on this duel Ava had faced another Hufflepuff prefect. What a coincidence! She had never underestimated her opponent, whoever they were. Especially that this one was an IMPS representative which was... interesting. "Good luck to you too." Politely she bowed back and put on her position. Eyes wide open, aware of the surroundings and the Gryffindor paid attention on Etta's movement. Her opponent just cast something non-verbally but she could see the blue beam produced from her wand. Quickly she cast protego and deflected it, following by disarming charm. Ava didn't want to over-attack because her focus on this duel was more how to defend herself more. And don't forget feather-light charm to herself. Text Cut: Points Tracker |
Expelliarmus? Really? Etta honestly expected better. Ava could definitely have come up with something else but instead.. eh. It didn't matter how her opponent performed, did it? As long as she did a pretty decent job and made herself proud. But.. the orbis that she'd cast earlier had deflected so she quickly moved to the side, narrowly missing both the spells from hitting her. Phew, that was close. Without pausing for more than just a few seconds, aiming correctly, she casted an Incarcerous. She considered combining it with another spell.. but decided to pause for a moment. She stood in a ready position, anticipating a spell to come her way.. unless Ava's strategy was to be overly-defensive. Hm. Now, that would be interesting.. and Etta would have to end up approaching this duel in an entirely different manner. She simply waited, waiting to see what was going to happen next. SPOILER!!: points tracker |
350 | 313 | 35 Disarming charm seemed like a pretty common attack to be used on duel, but it was effectively considering that if Etta would be sucked into the ground, there was nothing that she could do, right? And if her wand was successfully disarmed so it would be easier to defeat her. But unfortunately the Hufflepuff prefect stepped away to avoid those two attacks that she had sent, sigh. "Protego!" Ava threw the shield charm again as a rope-conjuring spell was sent, deflecting it back to Etta's feet. The Gryffindor then cast lumos aiming to her opponent's eyes. Just for making her distracted because the real attack that she sent was a jelly fingers curse to Etta's wand arm. Text Cut: Points Tracker |
H - 297 | m - 168 | f - 22 Etta could tell that more spells were coming her way so she put up a shield ( protego ) just in time to defend against the first couple of spells that came at her.. whatever they were. But unfortunately, just when she dropped the shield and was about to retaliate, the jelly fingers curse unexpectedly hit her. She watched as her fingers turned all jelly-like and her wand dropped to the ground but HEY. She still had another arm. She knew the effects of the charm would wear off soon anyway. Bad luck, Ava. She used her left hand to raise her wand and pointed it at her opponent. Okay, enough is enough. She decided to cast a confundus charm first before throwing a spell that she'd never actually used in dueling before. Manus Invisibilis. She directed it towards Ava's arms.. watching as she stood in a ready position, waiting to just throw up a shield since Ava only seemed to deflect spells and not actually cast any. Funny. Very funny. SPOILER!!: points tracker |
350 | 286 | 35 Ava must've admit it, dueling against the IMPS competitor was more difficult than she thought. Especially that this girl had mastered more complicated spells, goodness. The Gryffindor again threw a shield charm to defeat the first attack and quickly duck to avoid the second one. Merlin, even she couldn't perform confundus charm perfectly at all. By the way, she suddenly remembered about what Professor Hirsch had told her about her dueling skills. She had to change her strategy then because it seemed Etta had discovered it. First, Ava cast nonverbal ear-shriveling curse so hopefully her opponent wouldn't be able to hear her incantation. Then she sent immobulus to defeat her opponent. And for the twist, she cast disillusionment charm to herself. Text Cut: Points Tracker |
As much as Ava probably hated being the only sixth year who wasn't duelling against a professor, the whole point of this duel was to challenge Miss Kramer. So, his attention was mostly on her, to see how she was faring under this challenge. Though, he couldn't help but notice that the girl wasn't exactly letting the Gryffindor off that easily. In fact, this was almost better than the previous duel she had been in. Needless to say, Hirsch was impressed and silently glad. Ava needed a challenge as well and this seemed to be it. He watched the duel continue, his eyebrows rising alongside the complexity of the spells used. From a professor point of view, this was very nice to see. It meant that the students were learning something and putting it into good practice. Good! And, not to mention, this was the first time he was seeing the Disillusionment Charm being used in a student duel. Pleased. He was very pleased. Unfortunately, the duel had to come to a close and so, he struck up a shield between the two duellers to warn them of this. "Excellent! I'm very impressed with the level of spellwork displayed here. Both of you have put your knowledge of spells to good use and I'm very proud." The smile on his face certainly showed it. "Congratulations, Miss Burton, on taking the lead on this duel. And well done, Miss Kramer, on putting up an excellent fight. I'm glad both of you put the other through their paces here." Stats: Henrietta Kramer: 88.33% Ava Burton: 94.86% |
