Okay, so look. It'd been a hard couple of weeks and Olivia wasn't in any real rush to thrust herself back out into the spotlight. The one that was tournament magical activities, but....after A LOT of thought, she'd finally come to the conclusion that she owed it to herself to get the feelings out. In a safe, healthy way...far removed from her personal demons. And what better way to do this than exhaust herself in the duelling arena? The epitome of her "safe space"?
What made it more relieving was that apparently, her first opponent was going to be Charlotte Kettleburn, who'd she'd personally trained with for years now. Despite their differences and not seeing eye to eye on things, her fellow blonde was one of the best when it came to duelling and Olivia liked to think that she helped in upping her own game. Forced her to push herself in ways that she might not have normally. Sure, most of her peers had some duelling talent, but there was good...and then there was g o o d. Ego aside, she liked to think that she and Char erred on the g o o d side. It was to be expected, since they'd both dedicated themselves tremendously to the art of duelling. Even with her mental health issues, Liv used it as something that could center her turbulent mind.
Decked out in her black duelling gear, the lion lady moved into the center of the ring; grinning as she saw that Char had arrived at the same time. Good. They wouldn't be delayed, then. A friendly duel was exactly what the Healer ordered right now, and Liv wanted to get on with it. AND...because this was Char, she understood she could duel on a higher level than she usually did with other people. Char would match her, spell for spell. It wouldn't be so one-sided. There would also be no hard feelings.
"No holding back." It was shouted across the way, as Olivia bowed at the waist. She wouldn't be going with her usual strategies...because the blonde wanted to explore other types of magic. Still charms, mind...because that was what she was best at, but different spells in her arsenal. BUT FIRST......Feather-Light, to help with her legs and body. Casting that on herself with efficiency...she began moving around; using the space to her advantage. Char would do the same, and it was the smartest course of action. Olivia also understood that to get spells off on her friend, she'd need to be tactical. Distract and then perform. Distract...and perform...
Ahh, it wasn't too early to just go for it, was it? They were both Gryffindors here. There didn't need to be a buffer for them... But...where to aim...? That was the question. Hm. Actually...pointing her wand down at Char's shoes, she exclaimed "Micans orange!" taking a breath and concentrating before firing off a second charm just after. One she'd been practicing a great deal in her own spare time.
"Ebublio!" Hopefully, the sparks would pull her focus and allow for the second spell to hit home. That was the real goal, anyway.

Char didn't get to spend all that much time with Liv these days, so she was ALWAYS happy for an opportunity, even if it was in a duel. Especially if it was in a duel, actually!
She adjusted her braid and nodded happily. "No holding back!" She agreed and then returned bow and salute.
And then they were starting! Which was how Charlotte liked it, getting straight on into things!
Liv casting the featherlight immediately meant that she got that sparking spell off quickly. And it wasn't that Charlotte underestimated her either, it was just that Olivia was getting really good at dueling, you know? The sparks blinded her for a second and scorched her shoesbut Charlotte had her shield up in time for the next offensive move - new to Liv's arsenal? Cool! Hopefully it'd hit Liv back on the rebound because Char wouldn't mind seeing its effects.
No featherlight for her though, not yet anyways, instead, immediately after the rebound, Charlotte threw out a sticking charm at her friend's feet in an attempt to slow her down since she was moving around so much. "Epoximise!"

Olivia expected Char to be quick with a shield, because the older blonde girl was a competition duelist, but hadn't anticipated it being rebounded back at her. If she was going to block the second spell, she'd have to focus and allowed her redirected magic to connect. It was a simple bubble encasing charm, anyway. It wasn't anything that would....impede her ability if it did hit. Besides, without her focusing to maintain it, the bubble would disappear....
With a deep breath, Liv began working up into her own shield, allowing the Ebublio charm to take effect. Actually...she recognized the spell that was being shot at her as something that would stick her feet to the ground...and briefly wondered if she could actually use her bubble to protect herself from the second bit of magic. If she were encased, wouldn't the sticking charm...glue the bubble to the ground? And not her feet? And therefore, wouldn't she only need to maintain it just long enough for the spell to hit and then she could allow the bubble to evaporate, taking the Epoximise with it... Right? It made perfect sense to her Gryffindor brain. Of course, sometimes magic didn't cooperate in the way one wanted it to...
The Ebublio charm had held its own against Char's incoming magic, but...when it'd come time for the bubble to evaporate, it had not done so... Er?...See, she got that no physical force could pop it, and that exerting a magical one would only damage her stats... So, with a deep, steadying breath, Olivia allowed herself to be calmed by the minute protection. It surely wouldn't last for long and she'd need to be ready to come out fighting if Char got the bright idea to pop her...caaaause Liv sure wasn't going to...
Your move.

There was a little voice in her head advising Char to just wait for the bubble that Liv was now using as a shield (smart!) to dispel itself but Charlotte wasn't really in the habit of listening to little voices, lets be reaaaaal. So, intending to break through it and hopefully catch Liv out with an approach that wasn't generally one she employed (got to keep your opponents guessing!!) Charlotte put all her might into a one-two punch of two smashing spells back to back, completely going on the offensive.
Usually she liked to take the status change approach, using spells that had some kind of effect on her opponent beyond just damaging them and wearing them down... but this time?

Actually, being encased in the bubble wasn't too awful, and Olivia quickly decided to use her time wisely; breathing through her adrenaline. This was shaping up to be a really interesting duel, not that she was too surprised. It seemed they were both being innovative with their spell work...or...she was... Accidentally, but it still counted. Anyway, Charlotte was keeping her on her toes, though Liv would venture to say they were evenly matched.
Seeing as how some time was beginning to pass, the blonde expected the bubble to disappear at any moment, so she had her wand at the ready. It was almost game time, again!....But before the bubble could fade away on its own, there was a resounding BOOM! Ha, leave it to her friend to be too impatient to wait it out....and because Char was kinda known for the quickness and the one-two spell casting, Olivia had her shield ready; performing Protego with gusto. Not to rebound, but simply to keep the second smashing spell at bay. Back on the actual duelling arena floor again, the Gryffindor began moving; keeping her legs pushing against the cushioned ground. Professor Hirsch had safety reinforcements set up all around this place...
Thankfully...
shifting through her mental inventory of magic, the one with all her duelling spells, she thought to call forth some simple ones. Just to work herself back into the groove of it. So, maneuvering her wand accordingly, Liv fired off the Jelly-Fingers Curse and then the Jelly-Legs Curse with quiet incantations...taking a few seconds of delay time to get herself ready. Luckily, though, they were both charms. Let's be honest here. Charms were something Olivias did best.

Sometimes blocking was almost automatic these days, which wasn't always the best choice. Like right now, probably on later reflection Char would decide a sidestep would have been a better idea so that she would have been ready for whatever was coming next, but her reflexes meant a shield was up and blocking the Jelly Fingers Curse, which also managed to dispel her shield.
This meant that the second spell, the Jelly Legs, actually hit Char and she dropped to her knees - an unsettling feeling when you weren't expecting it. Her mind was still clear though, and it was something that had happened before in a duel so she managed to get off a spell. From her knees, she lifted her wand to aim instinctively toward Liv. Just a blast of Bluebell flames. Maybe it would distract her? Blind her? Enough that Char could get back to her feet, which she wasted no time doing, and lucky the jelly legs seemed mild enough that it was already wearing off, though she did feel a bit like she had just got on dry land from a ship.
Gosh! Liv was putting her through her paces today, which was awesome. Char was on a high with it. "Fulgari!" She whipped her wand around, slashing another spell her friend's opponent's way with as much energy and focus as she could muster.

....AND CONTACT!
Well, contact with one of the spells. However big or small the victory was, Olivia allowed herself a small dance. OOOH, the sweet, SWEET feeling of success! During her "dance break", Olivia had failed to noticed that Char was gearing up again for another attack...despite the shaky limbs. The heart of the matter was that...both girls were Gryffindors here. Meaning neither would be giving up easily. And apparently, Liv had somehow forgotten this important tidbit because one moment she was twirling around...and the next?...She was on FIYAH!
FIIIIIIIYAAAAAAAAAH.
Cursing colorfully, which was a newly acquired habit, Olivia whipped around on the spot, wand waving in a wide arch to protect from another possible one-two; famously performed by her dear friend here. A shield only meant to protect (not reflect), of course. Geezus...Kneeling down behind her wall of protection, she quickly put herself out by using a stop, drop, roll method...only to bounce back up onto her feet once the embers had been fully extinguished. Char was playing dirty! Not that Liv minded too much. This was so far the best duel she'd ever participated in...and it was challenging in all the right ways, because she and the other girl were friends. That was an important distinction.
Waiting until her shield had disappeared entirely, the blonde darted forward, which may have given the illusion that she was rushing Charlotte. As one of those American football players did... but this wasn't to be the case. It was another odd combination of spells that she was trying out together. To expand her arsenal and whatnot. "LUMOS!" Flashing her wand directly into her fellow Gryffindor's eyes, Olivia quickly (and quietly) tacked on the Hair Growth Charm...using the blinding light as her own distraction.

The Jelly legs may have worn off but Char felt a little less on the ball after that spell so now was the time for her to cast the featherlight charm on herself. There. That was better. And... okay so seeing Liv on fire was exciting and all, but Charlotte was far and away more astonished by what was coming from her friend's mouth.
Oh and Liv was running at her now? Char was honestly so astonished by Liv's bad language that she wasn't quick enough to cast nox on her friend's lumos spell or particularly concerned by the Gryffin!charge. But while the brightness had Char flinching away, she had enough wherewithal to blindly fling up a shield, though she couldn't rebound whatever it was back since she didn't quite have a lock on where Liv wa-- oh there! With the light gone, Char could retaliate, but it was just something quick and relatively small since she needed to regroup.
"Incarcerous!" She put as much oomph into it as she could and darted away, widening the physical gap between them again.

This was another duel that excited Hirsch because he knew, from the off, that it would be a good one. Though, on second thought, maybe 'good' wasn't a good enough word to describe the talent here. Both girls were exceptional duellers and, frankly, no amount of words could sing high enough praises for their defensive work.
So, the man stayed in the background of the arena, looking far too pleased with himself for thinking about setting this duel up. The smile on his face grew as the duel continued, growing more and more innovative as it progressed. There were spells used here that he hadn't seen used in this arena before, least of all for something as intense as a duel. He didn't even have to worry about whether the two girls would be safe or not because for one, they were capable of taking care of themselves and for another, he wasn't stupid enough to let something like safety reinforcements slide.
And he was going to remain completely oblivious about hearing that spiel of bad language. You're welcome, Olivia.
It was a shame that the duel had to come to an end because the man almost didn't want it to. But the shield was struck up between the two girls, stopping the Incarcerous spell from hitting Miss Phillips. "Excellent!" he called, making his way towards the two Gryffindors, the wide, dimpled smile still spread across his face, "Really, truly excellent! That was an incredible display of spellwork from both of you. Very, very well done." He was proud, if they couldn't tell.
"It's a very close duel between the two of you but I have to say that you, Charlotte, have managed to take the lead. Congratulations! And an exceptional effort from you, Olivia. You should feel proud." Smile.
Stats: Olivia Phillips: 85.94% Charlotte Kettleburn: 91.14%
