Paul couldn't lie to himself anymore; he hated his office. Well, hate was such a strong word. But really, he didn't like meeting with students in there. It was so stifling to conversation so...not fun. And so, he would keep his office the same, of course, but only spend time in there when he needed absolutely concentration grading papers or doing his own research. He would NOT be meeting with students in there anymore. Just...no.
The waiting area that had previously held those flower chairs that most students seemed to not like...was transformed into the meeting space, but the students must knock on the door to be let inside now. And he would only meet with students in here becaaaaaause there was something very special he was going to with this room.
Paul would make it different, every three months. Fun things, too. He had plenty of ideas, yes! But for now, the room looks normal if not for the darkened lighting, and a white floor that if students were to step on....the tiles would light up as they walk. How jazzy.
OOC: I apologize deeply for not having a normal office .___. Have your character knock and Paul will let them in, all in this thread.
Oliver had a few questions for everyone's favorite Poncho-clad professor. It had been tough figuring out what classes needed to be payed special attention to for his OWLs in order to study Wandlore.
Obviously Herbology was one. Because trees were plants! There was also COMC for wand cores and figuring out how to deal with Bowtruckles.. Which really couldn't be that hard right? Though... he'd heard they liked to poke people's eyes.. and no thank you.
He knocked at the door per the instructions of most professors when meeting with them. He hoped it wasn't a bad time.. He didn't have a ton of questions.

Paul was in his office, the little alarm triggered by the knock on the meeting space's door telling that there was a visitor! Early in the term, wasn't it? Paul didn't mind. He set his quill down and made his way into the meeting space.
Which he forgot was darky-ish. Lots of blinks. Riiiiight. And the floor tiles lighting up underneath his feet as he walked...psychedelic to say the least. "Come in!" he called out, taking three steps forward....one back, then to the side. Was he doing some sort of square dance? It certainly looked like it. "Don't be shy now!"

Oliver heard that and headed into the room and what an odd room it was. The floor was like nothing he'd ever seen before. Each step lit up. It was like those shoes little kids wear only a floor and not a shoe...obviously. "Hello, Professor."
The Lupins had a special relationship with Professor Myers. Jack, Oliver's father and The Herbology Professor had been friends for some time. So Oliver had known the Professor long before he was one of the Slytherin's teachers. "I had a few questions, i hope that's all right." But really why wouldn't it be all right.

"OH, hello, Oliver!" Paul beckoned him inside and shut the door. "So this is the ole' meeting space for now. Isn't it snazzy?" he winked and did an impromptu tap dance on the tiled floor, not professional or remotely close, and chuckled to himself.
There were some couches located on one side of the room, and a neon-yellow hammock in the other. He gestured at the couch. "Let us go have a chat then, shall we?" What could the boy possibly want to talk about? He wasn't a Hufflepuff, and he wasn't a seventh year. Surely...anything involving advice was out of the question? "How's your sister doing, by the way?" he asked. Alice Lupin had not returned this term. Paul had certainly noticed.

It was becoming habit that Rooney was lugging six prospectuses around in his satchel, either for light reading or to go over with someone seriously. It was a difficult decision to make about where to study, and there was a lot of factors coming to light over recent months where he should be location-wise. But then, there was his struggle with what subject specifically. He had already nixed History of Magic as an option for the extended future and planned to study that once more when he was in his thirties or forties, when he felt he had enough experience to understand the decisions made instead of being relatively naive. Roo didn't see a problem with people studying History of Magic straight after Hogwarts, but for him it wasn't a perfect fit.
The only other subjects he loved enough and felt comfortable enough to continue were Charms and Herbology. The latter being the reason for his visit today to Professor Myers. For locations and to get him to persuade him to choose this subject. Fight for your subject, Myers.

The boy smiled and walked inside. "It's pretty cool. I can honestly say i've never seen anything like it." That was the truth. Lightening floors weren't something in everyone's office. Oliver applauded the tap dance. "Nice moves."
He walked toward the sofa and took a seat. "Alice? She's great.. Off filming her movie. She's pretty excited about it. You know how she felt about school." And by that Oliver meant she hated it. He knew his sister loved Hogwarts as a place but she never cared much for academics. "But, Professor i cam to ask you if you know anything about the harvesting of wood for wandmaking..
if you don't i understand. I guess i'm just anxious to learn all that i can."

Roo knocked, and waited.
If Rooney was looking for a professor to fight for his or her subject's place in that student's life, Myers was the wrong professor, alas.
But Paul wasn't aware of Rooney's need for persuasion today. No, he heard the boy's knock to his meeting space's door and opened it with a broad grin. "Ah, Rooney Bronwyn. Yes, please come inside!" he said cheerfully as he closed the door behind the boy. The floor light up as they walked over the smooth tiles. It still tripped him up slightly. THE LIGHTS. RA. "The couch just over there if this will be a bit of a discussion-" he gestured with a nod of his head. "But to what do I owe this pleasure?" Rooney seemed serious.

Paul snorted. "You flatter me. My moves are mediocre, and you know it," he scoffed playfully. "I want my meeting space to be FUN and INTERESTING. Else conversations would be BORING and vastly under-stimulating. And that is neither fun for ME or...you, the student." He said with a grin.
The professor had no idea Alice hated school. Apparently she WAS a very good actress, because he had actually been under the impression that she LOVED school AND his class. She had always done relatively well? Paul sat down on the plushy cough and nodded. "Well, I hope she is happy and still going to finish schooling. It's quite important."
WAND MAKING. LOL @ OLIVER LUPIN. "I uh...well, I can't say I'm much help other than knowing a bit about the trees' unkeep and whatnot. So harvesting..would be a no." He sighed. "I'm sorry..."
..."However, I may have a helpful book?"
How Ravenclaw of him.

The lit up floor did nothing to distract Rooney, instead he just smiled at Professor Myers and gestured to the light under his foot currently. "Giving all your students the spotlight treatment, Sir?" The confidence that came from a spotlight was a blessing to this Ravenclaw and he already felt at home in this room. He felt like that whenever he was around Professor Myers, honestly, but these lights spoke to his heart. Spotlight incarnate. That's what Miss Phyllis called him, anyway. 'Your heart is a stage and those intense feelings of your are your spotlight, Rooney darling.' It took no effort at all to hear the voice of the old woman in his head.
He had heard it enough over the last fourteen years.
He headed for the sofa, taking a seat as he got there and smiled. "I wanted your advice before I start my university applications, Sir. You know I trust your thoughts more than most." Not as much as Professor Hirsch, but Myers was a close second. Hirsch and Rooney just had that understanding, and Rooney knew that his mother appreciated the work that his Head of House had been putting in to his confidence over the last few years.

Oliver chuckled. "Mediocre is a bit harsh." He looked around the room a little more. "Well, Professor boring isn't an adjective i would apply to you." Because who would really? Paul Myers was many things but never boring. "I haven't seen her since August but judging by her letters she seems happy. But Mum would have a field day if she stopped schooling." The thought made him laugh. Honestly he didn't know much about movies or how they were made. Really just what Alice told him and the ones he'd seen her watching over and over again.
"I figured it was a long shot but that if anyone in the castle might know it would have been you." Patience wasn't really a cornerstone characteristic of Oliver Lupin. He was hard headed and strong willed. "A book would be great.
Thank you, Professor." Though he thought learning to harvest wood might be something he'd have to wait a while to learn. But it wouldn't stop him from trying.

"Well, it's not like it's not deserved," he replied with a smirk. "I rather like it for myself, to be honest. I just forget it's like this sometimes and it startles me. The lighting isn't kind to my eyes." Not these old, bespectacled eyes. He sat on the other side of the couch in criss-cross position, almost yoga-like because he had kicked off his shoes.
Oh! Was it that time? For Rooney? UNIVERSITY?

NO.
REFUSE.
Paul cleared his throat of emotions. "Well..what are you going for? And what do you plan on taking NEWT level, m'boy?" he asked, blinking a lot. There weren't any emotions leaking out of his eyes. NOPE.
NOT ONE SINGLE EMOTION.
SPOILER!!: Oliver

Sure, boring didn't describe Paul. Exactly, Oliver. The white-haired man gave Oliver a big smile, though. "Your mother knows best," he commented. "People should continue some sort of education until eighteen or so. Hogwarts graduate aged." Muggles did it the same too, didn't they? Paul knew that much. "She has a private tutor, then? Will she be taking NEWTs?" he knew she wasn't a seventh year yet, but it was coming soon! "And you have your...OWLs this term, correct?" He thought he had the year right.
"I can go retrieve it quickly, m'boy. It's right in my office. I'll be back---" he stood quickly and went to grab it, but as he got to his door, he turned to look over his shoulder. "I almost forgot! Did you want anything to drink? Nibble on? I have tea and some biscuits," the date of which he hadn't kept track of. Oops. Hope they weren't old!

"She usually does know best." In the end, one way or another his Mum was usually right about things. "Dad says he wants a rematch by the way." He'd almost forgotten the message his father wanted him to pass along. Professor Myers occasionally came over for dinner and cards. "I agree, education is important." Though he knew Alice wasn't one for fallback options, they'd talked about it once. "Private tutor for before and after the film." He had no idea of her plans for after that. "OWLs this term, yes.
I'm kind of excited about it." Which he knew was probably odd cause most students seemed to dread OWLs.
"Oh, Brilliant. Thank you!" He would gladly add another book to his reading list. He'd probably push it to the top of the list since it was a borrowed book. Then a moment later Myers was back! "Oh, i'm quite all right. Thank you, Professor." He didn't want Paul to go through the trouble of making him some tea.

Roo laughed, forgetting that Professor Myers was also of the out there kind until just then. "I'm sure you could have it not happen to you, Sir. If you tried hard enough." Or he could just set it up without all the light show if it was such a startling thing. Adjusting to get comfortable, the Ravenclaw just smiled as he watched his Professor do exactly the same. No shoes, huh? Interesting. But whatever worked for Myers. Personally, Rooney felt lost without shoes. A lack of formality. And formality was everything that he lived by.
With a raised eyebrow, Rooney combed his fingers through his hair and then brushed them over his Head Boy badge. It was still crazy to him that it sat on his chest. It had been a dream for well over ten years now and now...it was here. "I'm torn between Herbology and Charms, Sir. I thought about History of Magic, but I want to wait until I have history of my own to apply to my studies."
And as for the classes he was taking... "All of them, Sir."
After hours of studying, realizing her mind wandered, and refocusing only to drift off again, Lucy decided to pay her Head of House a visit. Maybe he can help give her advice...or direction, even. Anything to ease the stress of OWL year.
With dark circles under her eyes, the fifth year knocked on Professor Myers' door.

Pffft. "Your dad only wants a rematch because he lost. And I won fair and square!" he smirked. "But I'll oblige...as soon as I have a chance. Possibly over the holidays, we'll see." Jack Lupin was not boring company; and Helena, too, was always so accommodating when he visited. Which was rare. "Or perhaps he'll have to come by mine. Different stakes...different location..it'll be a completely different game." Unless Jack wanted the same exact conditions?
Alice would be okay. Paul knew it. She was a smart enough girl. And following her dream was...incredible. Many parents did now allow their kids to do so, and Paul...just...admired it all!
Paul nodded as he went to fetch the book. Oliver was excited about OWLs, then? Interesting. He made a quick cup of tea and came out holding two teacups despite Oliver telling him he didn't want any. "Ah, here you are. And here is the book!" he smiled as he handed it over.

"I mean, I admire the ambition." But there weren't enough hours in the day! "And you head boy! That is a large LARGE responsibility." Paul lowered his voice. "Take what you need, or anything that inspires you. But don't take a subject for the sake of taking...all of them." Merlin. MERLIN.
And, "You're torn between TAKING Herbology and Charms or going on to STUDY them?" he asked for clarification. He was still in shock Rooney wanted to try to take ALL THE SUBJECTS EVER.
And...also...still in shock that he was a seventh year and LEAVING Paul next term. Leaving Paul. PAUL.

Lucy did not expect to be answered to so quickly. She was only halfway through rubbing her eyes when the door opened.
Oh...she nodded, answering his question. "But...I can come back. It's not important." It was only her future, but she doubted talking with him was going to change the fact that she still had a Charms essay she could do, if the timing was inconvenient.

"Like a joint lesson?" Lucy asked, looking up at Professor Myers. It would be great to get a head start on what would be happening...y'know...if she were told of things beforehand...

Today as Isa set out from the castle to go visit Professor Myers she was in a reflective sort of mood. Walking was a good time to think. There were a few things on her mind as she walked across the grounds to Professor Myers' office, things like being a teenager, growing up, missing mum, and Derf. Isa had been thinking a lot about Derf lately. He was cute not only in a physical kind of way, but he was so kind and everything he did was just adorable! Derf loved creatures even more than Isa did, and she just loved that about him. Now she just needed to show him that plants weren't scary. She just had to love him. Oh, look at that, she had reached Professor Myers' office. Every visit with Professor Myers was a good one. It was always fun to see what his office was like, and Isa absolutely adored Professor Myers because he was the professor of her favorite subject, herbology, and her amazing head of house. As usual she had brought a plant gift for him, this time a color-changing chrysanthemum. Setting the chrysanthemum down for a moment, Isa knocked on the door before picking the pot up again. Now to wait.

Derf...REALLY didn't want to be here right now...but the more he put it off thr less he was sleeping.at night because of the GUILT he was feeling over not doing nearly enough for he best mate and Gryffindor. No matter what argument was presented, the second year found no justification in the actions of the adults during the OPTIONAL healing seminar. His own feelings aside, namely the BETRAYAL TO HIS LOYAL HUFFLEPUFF HEART OF A PROFESSOR HE ADMIRED AND ASPIRED TO, he couldn't acceot that no effort had been done to even attempt to comfort Abey during his shock.
He had considered going to the Headmistress directly.
He knew how the hierarchy of things worked thanks to mum, but he had strayed from that path to make a STATEMENT by going to visit Professor Dark Lord. SURELY the fact that he was choosing to see this man would be proof enough of how DESPERATE he was, right?
Maybe another day he would have enjoyed the set up here, no doubt pretend he didn't as he had done last term with the trampoline floor, but not today. Today he was ALL business and had even slicked his hair back to look more mature.
And SO it was with heavy heart but the will of an offended hippogriff that he POUNDED knocked on his Head of House's door.

Multiple essays graded, special projects from a few seventh years looked over, and a letter of recommendation written, Paul was, yes, POOPED. He had just sat down to relax with Zelda when he got the signal that someone was knocking on his meeting space door.
"Welp, there goes my break," but he smiled as he walked past his dog, patting her on the head gently. "I'll be back, my girl." He made his way through the dimly lit room with the light up tiles and opened the door to see Isa! "Why hello, what a pleasure, m'dear. Come in, come in!" and he stepped aside from the door and gestured at the couches.

If there was someone Paul COULD expect to see at his door, it was certainly not Derfael. He knew the boy wasn't a big Paul Myers fan. It didn't hurt his feeling; young ones were so...odd at times yes? But he smiled nonetheless. "Derf. Fancy seeing you here! Come in...this must be important." Because why else would the boy visit him?
He nodded towards one of the couches, and as Paul walked over, the tiles lit up. Multicolored and bright. Paul loved it.

Derfael Mitchell Ashburry-Hawthorne was NOT the odd one here. NOPE. The second year's heart was already pounding in his ears, almost deafeningly so, the door began to creeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek open and THAT man appeared on the other side. Which of course he would seeing as it was his office, and the Hufflepuff WOULD have been pleasantly surprised that he did not feel the need to secrete from fear today...but he was FAR too distraught to think about such thing.
"It IS-S-S, profess-s-s-sor," he nodded while BOLDLY taking a step inside the office without so much as a second thought. "There has-s-s been a TERRIBLY mis-s-sjus-s-stice done and my bes-s-st friend has-s-s-s been HURT badly by people who are S-S-SUPPOS-S-SE to protect him and be his alley. But they jus-s-st turned out to be big S-STINKY pieces-s-s of dragon dung, s-s-sir!" He paused a moment, his big baby blues LOCKED on the professor's face UNBLINKING to prove how serious he was. The slicked back hair was helping with the whole image too, yes? Yes.

....Stinky pieces of dragon dung. Paul made a face. "Why, who, Derfael?" he asked in a concerned tone. "What in the world is going on?" And who did the boy consider his best friend? He shut the door to his meeting space and crossed his arms as he faced the Hufflepuff boy.
And yes, Paul noticed that slick hair. Was he was trying to impress Paul? There was really no need! Paul enjoyed having Derfael in classes and in his house. Man, Derf was distressed. It was concerning. Paul could just SEE it in the boy's face....distress, all over it. "Do you need a calming solution, m'boy? Seriously, explain what's going on. I'm hear to listen."

PAUL.
Rooney immediately went on the side of being insulted, shifting to sit up straight and rest his palms flat on his knees. "I did it for OWL year and I'll do it again this year, Professor Myers. I don't mean any offence when I say this, but you're clearly underestimating my educational ability." It wasn't like he was attending classes in Arithmancy anyway, given there being no teacher this year. But he had enough to cover his own curriculum should he need it. That was one class off his schedule. "Everything inspires me." And he didn't think that choosing between his classes was fair, when one day he could have wished he had taken them.
"I want to learn what I can now, when my mind is as absorbent as it is..instead of getting so far in a career and wishing I had taken the education given to me before with both hands instead of just taking what I needed at that point. The career path one chooses at fifteen isn't set to be the only career they ever have. Priorities change. Interests change. People change." But he hadn't come here to make a case for why he was taking so many subjects. He came to ask for guidance.

WHO? WHOOOOOOO? Oh Derf would certainly tell him who!
"Healer Reed, Professor Hirsch, BOTH Professor S-Stewarts, and Mr. Kennedy," the second year said clearly, his voice cracking every now and then because of his UPSET. Yes, all of them. But his hurt was most directed towards the Healer and his former favorite professors. "No, profes-ss-ssor. No calming s-s-soluton. I do not WANT to dull the s-s-sting of betrayal."
NO HE WOULD NOT GO QUIETLY INTO THE NIGHT...ER...OFFICE...ER....HE WAS NOT GOING TO BE CALM AND QUIET ABOUT ANYTHING!
"They KNOWINGLY put us-s-s in a triggering s-s-situation for thos-s-se s-still s-s-suffering from the PTSD las-st term caus-sed," he stated succinctly.
