Welcome to your first duel!
This is a key stepping stone into determining your placement in the Jinx Tournament so please take this seriously. A list of spells to use can be found HERE while the cost of physical actions can be found below.
Please note that these actions take away from the Fatigue Points section. Also note that these are only taken into account if you're attacking or avoiding a spell. If you're simply moving around the hall, these points don't need to be considered.
_______________ Professor Hirsch will be present to oversee the duels and will only interfere if the duel ends or any foul play or unsportsmanship-like behaviour is displayed.
Please remember to adhere to the Dueling Club rules, the DADA rules as well as the SS Site rules.
Good luck!

| h:150, m:150, f:15 Lovely™ | Captain Hurted | Ariana's Bane | Resident Antagonist | Unparalleled Delight Today was actually super ultra mega exciting but also super ultra mega nerve-wracking, because ABEY was duelling a THIRD year. AND, not just ANY third year, but his actual real actually friend, Jessa Cambridge. It didn't matter at all to him that Jessa was older and therefore more experienced and therefore better at magic, because he really REALLY wanted the challenge. After last term and... everything that had happened... Abey NEEDED to become brilliant at duelling and fightin magic in case it ever happened again. He was OBSESSED with never being caught unprepared and unaware ever again.
And the best part about Duelling Club this term? Abey now FINALLY KNEW THE FINITE SPELL. Fiiiiiinally. That one was, like, mega important in duelling, sort of. Now... he only needed to cast a shield charm. THAT was something he had been meaning to talk to Hirsch about.
Except....... well...................
ANYWAYS. DUELLING.
When Abey and Jessa's time came to duel, Abey bounded forward, wand already in hand OBVIOUSLY. He gave a great extravagant bow just because, and fired off his first spell the second he had straightened again. "Colloshoo!"
Hoping that the effects Stickfast Hex - or perhaps the efforts to avoid it - would allow Abey some precious extra seconds, he then turned his wand on himself and cast the Featherlight Charm. THAT was a move that he had learnt from closely watching other duels last year; judging by how many people used it, it was definitely the way to go, even if it WAS mega predictable.

| h:200, m:200, f:15 Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite She'd never done this dueling thing before, never, but felt it may have been a good time to start. She'd enjoyed watching the duels from the stands and cheering her friends on during their own but always thought it wouldn't work as well for her. There was always so much to analyze, so many questions that she tended to silently ask while watching which gave her a pretty good idea when it came to how she would fare in her own duel.
Asking so many questions and getting completely distracted from the POINT.
Luckily her first duel ever would be with Abey. It kinda took the pressure off; not because he was a year younger and knew a fraction less spells than her but because he was her FRIEND and things were always far less nerve wracking when you did them with a friend, especially one that wouldn't laugh at her from here to the whomping willow when this was all over. Phew.
Jessa had watched enough to know the customer bowing and step taking but quickly found her wand out at his sudden casting.
Unfortunate, quick wasn't quick enough--not when she'd so nervously fumbled to get her wand out and ready in the first place. Circe Jessa, try to relax. Her feet that no longer moved were confirmation enough that his spell had indeed worked. Oh Merlin, she needed them. And why was he casting the featherlight? She'd seen a few duelers doing it over time. Was that a thing? Was she meant to do it TOO???? Was there an official handbook for this sort of thing??? Maybe...maybe she'd ask someone for dueling help afterall.
Jessa quickly cast a featherlight on herself too BECAUSE ABEY WAS DOING IT AND HE KNEW HOW THIS THINK WORKED. Clearly she just needed to follow his lead, except holy kneazle she was meant to be casting at him TOO and was still stuck to the ground and evdKSAVDUFeuofveoguD.
Ugh, seriously, where was the focus she'd told herself she would have?? And what spells could she safely cast because on the off chance they actually hit him Merlin would she feel terrible. One did not simply cast harmful spells at Abraham Botros, or anyone else for that matter. He'd never done anything to her. Sweet sweet friend he was and if he cried, she'd end the duel. Definitely. Couldn't risk, but watch her leave herself a sitting duck while she tried to figure something OKAY to cast.
Oh! She had one! "Aguamenti!" There, perfectly harmless. All good. But now about her feet. In all her casting she'd forgotten she was still stuck.
Brilliant start to your dueling career Jessa, just mess everything up.

| h:150 , m:130 , f:25 Lovely™ | Captain Hurted | Ariana's Bane | Resident Antagonist | Unparalleled Delight IN ALL HONESTY ACTUALLY... Abey had expected something much worse than Aguamenti to be sent his way, and not because he expected Jessa to send mean spells at him, but because she was wicked smart at everything and unlikely to hold back in a duel because it was another one of those KNOWLEDGE THINGS that Ravenclaws really went for.
Either way, he wasn't complaining. And actually, Abey thought a nice blast of water to the face would be quite refreshing and a nice bit of a WAKE UP and so he SPREAD HIS ARMS WIDE and let it hit him. Dramatically too, because of course.
When it was over, Abey - now soaked but grinning widely because this was just as fun as he thought it might be - raised his wand, and BRANDISHED IT as he cast his next spell... "Expelliarmus!" AND THEN, in case Jessa managed to dodge that one, he followed up with a quick, "Titillando!" Surprise!
Hehehehe.

| urine trouble | Pat's Strong Confident Other Half | Pees Like a Champion Unicorn Racehorse One word for this duel?
Cute.
It was expected, at this point, that a duel between two friends would never result in harmful spells being used but openly accepting the water charm was something he hadn't expected. If he was being completely honest with himself, it amused him. So much so, that he hardly noticed the droplets of water that splashed off of Mr Botros and onto him, instead.
Wiping off any excess water droplets on his glasses, Hirsch glanced down at his watch and frowned slightly. The duel had just started and yet, it looked like it was getting a little too close to finishing time than he would've liked. The man looked up at the two duellers and contemplated whether he should let them continue for a few minutes longer. They wouldn't notice would they? Were they keeping track of the time....?
Deciding against it, the Defence Professor struck up a shield between the two duellers, making both of Abey's spells crash into it one after the other. Well. At least it looked cool, right? "Well done to both of you! Unfortunately, that's all we have time for but that was a short but sweet duel, right?" Yes? No? "You've both done exceptionally and, actually, you've come very close at the end of it."
Pause. "Seeing as there can only be one winner, congratulations, Jessa. And well done on putting up an excellent fight, Abey." Smile. "Do you want me to get rid of the water?" Stats: Abraham Botros Jr: 117.11% Jessa Cambridge: 117.22%
