As you will find out in the first lesson of term, there is an influx of infant creatures that need tending to, and Professor Wayland needs your help!
Creature Guide (IC)
You will be assigned a specific infant creature to take care of all term long in the first lesson of the term. (OOC: If you did not attend class and want to participate please PM me for details and we will set you up with a baby) Your assignment is to take care of the babies! You must demonstrate proper care for them, including feeding, cleaning out their cages/pens/stalls, bathing, training them, and anything else they may need. For this assignment you must also write down your interactions with the baby, how they change in size and appearance, and anything you find interesting about them.
The Nursery has everything you could possibly need to complete your tasks and ensure that your baby is well taken care of and will be the place you are taking care of your baby. You will need to use all of the supplies necessary to maintain your infant creatures habitat and feed them.
For full credit on this extra credit assignment, you will need to complete at least Five entries in your journal documenting your efforts of care. (OOC: See below for more information on how to do this!) You have until the end of term to complete this assignment and turn it in. (OOC: July 30 @ 11:59 pm EST).
There will also be an opportunity to adopt your creature at the end of term. More information will be put on the announcements board about this opportunity closer to the end of term.
Assignment and Documentation Guide (OOC)
For your assignment, you will be required to post your character's interactions with your infant creature in the Nursery and only in the Nursery. In those FIVE or more posts you must show your character interacting with your baby. This baby is yours, so you get to name it! You must clean out the cage and feed them in every entry. You must also talk about how they have changed in physical appearance and matured mentally. You will need to do a little research about your creatures to make sure your information is correct. For a few of these animals there wont be a lot of information out there, so do your best with the knowledge that you do have to be realistic in your posts.
Remember, Professor Wayland is there taking care of them when your character isn't, so there is no need to have your character worry about them when your character isn't there. If you aren't sure what to feed them, just call it "infant (insert type of creature here) feed" and I will know what you are talking about. Also keep in mind that some creatures grow rather quickly. For example, a Phoenix matures in 5 days from its burning day, so it wont eat the same thing on the first day you meet it compared to your last day with it. You can make up the description/coloring of your creature, as long as you are realistic and stick to what they actually look like. No purple Nifflers please! Your creatures are not allowed outside of the Nursery thread. There is an outside pasture and play area included in the Nursery thread. You may RP them there! The Nursery thread is a NO CHAT ZONE, which means you are to post your interaction with your creature only. No chatting with friends. Your focus should be on your creature. There are tons of places for you to hang out with your friends around the castle, including the barn, so please chat there and not in the Nursery!
For documentation, using THIS THREAD, everyone wanting to participate should make ONE post using the journal template in the spoiler below. This post will be used to keep track of all of your posts in the Nursery thread for the extra credit assignment and will serve as your journal. All you have to do is use the edit button at the bottom of your post every time you wish to add a post to your entry. Summaries about your entries do NOT have to be long -- the shorter the better! Though it should all be IC not OOC. The most important part of this is your RP posts, so keep that in mind!
Please make sure to number each post in the title of each post. If you aren't sure how to do that just ask Please make sure you use the template below for your entries!

Raising Pavo
SPOILER!!: Jobberknoll Entries
Entry 1:
Today was the first meeting between myself and my Jobberknoll, Pavo. I noticed a distinct difference in appearance from a mature Jobberknoll and it's chick self. The adult Jobberknoll is a beautiful blue, with speckles and sleek feathers. However, the chick is tones of greys and a few spots of black on it's immature feathers, which resemble fuzz at this stage. The chick also appears to be 60% smaller than it will be once full grown, making it a very tiny creature!
Personality-wise, Pavo seems to be focused mainly on feeding and growing, and keeping himself warm in his nest within the cage. But he seems to trust me enough to allow me to feed him! I expect that he will grow quickly, as most birds tend to do who are well cared for. He didn't seem to mind too much, either, when I tended to his cage and nest.
Of course, Jobberknoll's are silent creatures for their lifetime, so Pavo was also very quiet. Perhaps this works to their advantage in the wild as well by keeping their chicks safe, and their adult selves safe while searching for insects. I'm also wondering if Pavo will be a very expressive bird, since his species is mute until the time of their deaths? Time will tell!

The Aethonan Experience
SPOILER!!: Entries
Entry 1:
I met my little Aethonian for the first tie today. He didn't seem very keen in the beginning but I'd done some reading up on their care and had a fair idea of what I was doing. We didn't do anything really fancy, just stayed in the stall with him getting him used to me and to having me around. I suspect it'll be a while because he becomes desensitized to me but I'd still like to call this first meeting a success. I think he kinda looks like a Dexter--like point Dexter, geddit?--so that was the name I chose for him. So far, I don't think he minds. I get the feeling we're gonna be great friends once we get the hang of each other and once I'm sure he knows I'm in charge and he can trust me, I think I'll even let him out to run around and give those wings of his a try.
Entry 2:
Dexter's getting better at following my instructions. We've been on walks before but today I could tell he was finally starting to listen. He still sometimes likes to test the waters but I'm hoping if I stay firm enough he'll fall fully in line. To be honest, I don't mind the spunk. I like that he's got so much personality, I just don't want him getting habits I can't make him kick when he's eventually towering over me--because we all know it'll happen at some point. He seemed extra hungry today. I suspect it's because he's growing again. I've heard growth spurts can do that. Must be nice him having one of those. I'm still waiting for my own.
Entry 3:
It was one of those snow days today. At first I didn't take Dexter out of the stall because he needed his coat cleaned but eventually we did go outside for a bit under a warming charm. While inside, I was sure to get him something to eat and you'd NEVER believe how healthy and shiny I got his coat looking, best results I've seen so far if I do say so myself. There was a bit where I needed to head back to the castle but he knew I'd be right back because we've got something like a bond, you see. I can't wait til it gets a little warmer and he gets bigger so I can start taking him flying--of course I'll need to be sure he's fully ready to listen to me but based on our walking sessions where I lead him, he seems pretty keen to go wherever I take him. I think he might be looking forward to flying as much as I am.
Entry 4
Today was the day Dexter got in some real wing practice. Usually I let him mess around in the barn for a bit, get some of that energy out but he won't be a baby forever and will need to be able to fly if the situation every comes to that. I dunno if it's because he never had his mum to show him but he's always seemed rather shy with his wing usage. I admit I got a little frustrated at first, because I know he knows how to use 'em and just needs a push but with some demonstration, we spent the afternoon prancing and parading around my makeshift obstacle course. I'm happy to report that by the time I left, Dexter was-well exhausted sure--but more importantly, I think he's gotten a little more excited about flying. The muscles in his wings will need more work but I think this might be the start of something really beautiful for him. I can't wait til he's a full fledged flier but for now I'm just happy he's willing to try.

Going for the Gold!
SPOILER!!: Entries
Entry 1:
Today I met my baby niffler for the first time and I have to say I'm totally in love! It was so tiny, like barely larger than my waist, and he seemed so docile. I didn't play too much with him, as I just wanted to observe and get a feel for him, figure out a name, give it some water. It did seem to trust me enough to take water from the shiny chrome bowl I set down in his pen, but as for the name? I was at a loss. At least I had a mental image to mull over names until next time. On my way leaving, he totally snatched my watch though, so I'll have to research how to get him to cooperate and give back what he's stolen.
Entry 2:
After a hiatus from the barn, I finally returned and decided on a name, completely different from anything I had considered before, but Snitch just seemed to fit so well. I also tried to bargain with it and was firm in terms of getting it to give back my watch, but to no avail; perhaps babies are more stubborn and he will become less stubborn as he ages? Who knows, but I'm not going to give up! Just for the day I will ....
Entry 3:
It was just a quick visit before class, where Snitch let me pet him for the first time. I gave him drink, as per usual and found myself wondering about what he would be like when he wasn't a baby anymore. When did Nifflers reach their adult stage anyway? I also decided I was going to give him a bath next time I visited him, so we'll see how that goes ...
Entry 4
So first things first, I decided I needed to be firm with Snitch about my watch and guess what happened!? Miraculously, after MONTHS, he finally dropped my watch! I don't know whether he'll listen about the stealing other people's possessions - he is a niffler - but at least he seemed like he wanted to listen now. So I'll leave it to that.
Then I proceeded to give him that much needed bath, because I had arrangements with Vivian for our nifflers to finally meet in a couple days and I wanted Snitch to be mostly clean. Except, it turns out, nifflers are like kittens and they don't particularly care for water. I did manager to get him soaped up and mostly rinsed out before he dashed away though, so I'll go with that as an achievement. Though I'm sure his fur will look a hot mess, as I hadn't the chance to brush it before he ran off to hide in his favorite corner. Ah well, at least he's clean?
---------------------- Entry 5
As was pre-arranged months ago, once we got our nifflers situated, Vivian and I would have them meet. Though I wasn't sure it was a good idea, I figured gifting Snitch a sparkly ball would be a good way for him to break the ice with his soon to be new friend. At least I hoped him and Goldilocks could be friends, but only time could really tell. Snitch, albeit I've only seen him by himself, doesn't seem to really like to share.

Reach for the Sky
SPOILER!!: Journal Entries
Entry 1:
Today I went to meet my Granian foal for the first time. I decided on a name for him also, Caelus, which I think was well received by him. He is a little smaller than I expected but I'm sure he will grow and be flying in no time. I spent a little time grooming him and made sure to feed him his proper diet. I brought my textbook with me, which I think will come in handy to make sure I'm taking care of him properly. He seems rather friendly and I'm really excited to see his progression as I take care of him.
Entry 2:
I'm trying to go down to the stables to visit and take care of Caelus as much as possible. After classes seem easiest, but I'm going to try to work it into my schedule to make sure I come regularly. He seems a little bigger now, but I can't tell for sure. Maybe I should bring a measuring tape to track his growth. I've noticed that he seems to recognize my voice or knows when I'm coming since he almost always greets me when I come in, which I think is pretty cool. We went for a walk today, but I wonder if he'll be flying soon too. His wings don't look like they are quite big enough to hold his weight in the sky.
Entry 3:
I feel like I'm getting into a good routine with cleaning out Caelus's stall and feeding him and grooming and cleaning him. He expects it too, it seems, and it makes it all a bit easier even if it is some work. I've noticed that Caelus's wings are getting bigger and stronger, and he is starting to want to fly when we go on walks. He hasn't been able to get any real height yet, but he can get off the ground a bit. I'm sure it won't be much longer.
Entry 4
Caelus flew today! I mean really flew. It was amazing! It took a little bit of prompting, or maybe it was the apple I brought him, but once we got a running start, he took off into the air no problem. The landing might take a little more work, but I'm sure he'll master them both in no time.
Entry 5
Caelus has gotten a lot bigger since I started taking care of him and, even though a lot of his care is pretty routine, he's still young and loves to play. I thought I'd play a game with him today to help train him in his flying. I tossed apples from a tree, which happen to be his favorite treat, and he flew up to catch them in the air. Unfortunately, I'm not going to be able to take him home over summer so I'm really going to miss him. But I'm excited to see how much he'll have grown when I come back and he's going to be mine to take care of next year too. Then I'll take him with me for real.

Whats a Mew-Mew? The Working Journal of Darcy Lewis
as written by Melbourne Sorin-Ward
SPOILER!!: entries
Entry 1:
Darcy seems to be learning to speak. I do not know how long it will be until she has a full vocabulary or when she will stop calling people fuzz brained weirdos…or when she will stop calling little kids screeching evils really, its rather rude of her if I do say so myself.
Right other than that ‘needless’ conundrum of what is the proper decorum with a Jarvey…mind you I think they should rightly be able to speak in the truly jarviest of manors. Is it bad that I want to train her not only to hunt small creatures like those of her usual diet of moles, voles, rats other such rodents and well…gnomes, but to also scare the cat that still pees in my shoes away from my shoes?
Darcy has grown quite a bit since I last measured her just last week. Through looking up a mundane animal anatomy book (those pictures of dissected creatures made me cry…and possibly reconsider a job in the magizoology field) and found that Darcy is now around the same weight as a Chinchilla. However, being of the Mustiladae family I have been paying strict attention to her diet and I have not been feeding her what a Chinchilla would eat. That would be cruel as Chinchillas are herbivores where as Jarveys are closer in relation to ferrets…and they, like Jarveys are obligate carnivores….so they must eat meat like cats, birds, dolphins and dragons as well as many other creatures…still, I’m getting sidetracked.
Darcy seemed to enjoy the – I still feel like I’m going to puke - mouse that I fed to her. It was in the bins of carnivorous animal feed sure, it wasn’t live but my stomach today could not handle that.
Today, on Valentines I gave Darcy a meat-pie-thing that I had made. It was wheat free of course as I didn’t want to get her sick and really was just a meat loaf the shape of a heart for her enjoyment. Now, she ate it so quickly that I decided that I’ll bring her more later today and give her a proper bath. She really wasn’t in the mood for bathing but was quite welcoming of me today, no cursing me out for even going near her which was great.
Honestly, I do commend her for how much she wants to be her own little Jarvey. I also had a little conversation with her and have been working on making her be a little bit more friendly with strangers so that if possible I could adopt her in the future.
Today was a quieter day, Darcy wasn’t as talkative. I feel this was because she must have been rather hungry. I did feed her two portions of the provided Jarvey food though she was quite inquisitive today. I did notice just how papery and rough her tongue is, which must be because of the fact that she uses her tongue to pull food into her mouth. Honestly, I do not believe I have ever felt a Jarvey tongue so clearly until today. She after all, has only just started trusting me enough to not only eat from my hands but to search for morsels of food I have eaten off of my own hands. I’m coming in the morning to feed her again, and tomorrow I’m planning on giving her a nice bath.
Today was quieter, after feeding Darcy I mainly chatted with her. This is because i feel as though with pets it is best to let them know how much you truly care for them. I let Darcy know that Hadley, my friend that I had chatted with her about co-parenting before was busy and later discussed co-parenting her with Kirk...because he also really likes Jarveys.

SPOILER!!: Entries
Entry 1:
Today I met my kneazle for the first time. She's a nice golden color with amber spots. I love the poof of her tail. I always read it was like a lion, but I think it has more of fuzz look to it right now. Maybe that will change as she gets older.
She's just a little thing right now. Her mews are soft and cute. She seems to have accepted me, and I can only hope she will accept my father. I've already written home about her, and my father said so long as I'm the one caring for her, I can have her. Jasmine, my eldest sister, regularly brought animals into the house, so I think that's why he's alright with me bringing a kneazle home.
Whoops, off topic. Anyway, she seems to do a good job at keeping herself clean. I've just now realized that I forgot to brush her last time I was there. I'll have to remember to do it next time. Kneazles, like cats, groom themselves regularly. I watched her do it a little bit after I put her back in her cage. I don't know if she's particularly skilled at it yet, but she seemed to do alright.
Entry 2:
I have been seeing Honey every day and she's been growing just fine, I think. Kittens grow fast, don't they? She had grown considerably since being the fluff ball I first saw her as. Her fluffy fur has smoothed out quite a bit, and the small poof at the end of her tail and now more like a lion's, even though it still seems kind of small. It will probably fill out quite a bit as she gets older.

OF BECOMING A HOME TREE THE DOCUMENTED ACCOUNT OF A BOWTRUCKLE & HER HUFFLEPUFF
SPOILER!!: journal entries
Entry 1:
Dear Journal,
I think that is how you are supposed to start these things. Anyway, HI PROFESSOR! I'm using a Spell-Checking Quill for this assignment because my spelling gets WAY worse when I am excited and I AM REALLY REALLY EXCITED RIGHT NOW. Why? BECAUSE I JUST FINISHED MY FIRST MEETING WITH PICKETTA!
We started off not so great and I need to go find Jessa so she can teach me a few basic healing spells and help be brew some simple healing potions because I don't like or trust the Healer to take care of me. BUT IT WAS STILL AMAZING! I went to say hello and she attacked my face so I got to experience FIRST HAND and all UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL how defensive a bowtruckle can get when they feel unsafe. My eyelids kinda hurt though, but I'm okay. The important thing is that I think she is okay with me now thanks to the wood lice I gave her. I sat for a good hour just watching her devour them in the palm of my hand. Then she sort of just gnawed on my finger while I read to her from my History of Magic textbook about the Soap Blizzard of 1378. I think she is teething? It was reminding of how my little sister would chew on things when she was at least.
ANYWAY! Her and I have a LONG way to go it seems and I think I am gonna have to spend LOADS of time in the nursery with her. She really doesn't seem to trust people much and I wonder if her original Home Tree was destroyed by humans or if she was maybe abused (like...FLICKED a bunch or something) because she is really really unsure about hands and humans in general. BUT I AM DETERMINED!
Thanks for the opportunity again, professor! Until next time journal!
Entry 2: OOC: yes, he is not being truthful with this entry and his RPer is 100% aware
Dear Journal,
I still haven't figured out a name for you yet but I kinda have been thinking about loads of other things like chapstick these days. I tried talking with Picketta about this to get her opinion but she was pretty disinterested in it and would rather tangled herself up in my hair. Go figure.
Anyway...today I came to visit Picketta to read to her. I have this stutter you see, professor, and I'm not sure if you've noticed but it is kinda awkward. My speech coach told me to practice speed reading aloud every day because it apparently helps with that. Something about relaxing muscular tension in and around my mouth? I honestly don't really pay all THAT much attention but I like reading so it is kinda a win-win for me, you know? Anyway, I brought my copy of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and The Tales of Beedle the Bard to read to her. I practically have the first one memorized so I recited the chapter on merpeople to Picketta. I'm trying to give her and my friend Natalie something to bond over since Picketta really hasn't taken a liking to her and it upsets me. Anyway, guess Picketta wasn't too keen on the subject or maybe I just have a soothing voice to her because she fell asleep and that was that!
Entry 3:
Dear Journal who I really should have named by now,
For Valentine's Day I got all my friends things. Someone really need to explain to me why people get SO fired up about the holiday but maybe I will just never understand because older students just really confuse me. Anyway, I got my friend Natalie and she really wasn't expecting anything but I told her not to worry about it because I don't do STUFF with the expectation of getting gifts back, you know? Anyway, she found me this really NEAT stick that looks just like a bowtruckle. It even has the little leaf pigtail things and some small knots just in the right place for eyes. I named him Pickett and Natalie gave him to me AND Picketta technically, so today I brought him down to introduce to Picketta for the first time. She really REALLY liked him! And Picketta even performed a sorta dance for the stick before cuddling and rolling around with it. I'm SO relieved! She did the dance so often that I even memorized it. I can perform it for you sometime if you'd like, professor.
Okay. I honestly am not keen on the name but I couldn't think of anything else so I figured I should just go with SOMETHING rather than nothing. So, hello Bob. Bob the journal.
Anyway. I figured something out the other day. Picketta kinda inspires me to do better with classes. Granted I used to do some of the reading and studying stuff I do with her with Scamander too, but I think its the fresh set of adorable beady eyes that is helping. We did Arithmancy today and I actually kinda sorta remembered the whole Pythagorean Number System! Did a few calculations for Picketta too and they seemed pretty accurate. Although things are sorta written vaguely enough that you COULD sorta apply things to anyone. Like how those muggle horoscopes worth with your star signs, you know? Still though, so far History of Magic and Arithmancy make more sense thanks to her....and I don't REALLY want to admit this so please don't go telling Professor Dark Lord Myers but she is also making me sorta okay with plants. You kinda have to rethink thinks when you become a bowtruckles Home Tree, you know?
Entry 5 PLEASE LET ME ADOPT PICKETTA! PLEASE PROFESSOR! I EVEN GOT BOWTRUCKLE KISSES! I'M HERE HOME AND YOU CAN'T TAKE HER AWAY FROM HER HOME TREE AGAIN! PLEASE!

SPOILER!!: Journal Entries
Entry 1: Can't keep my eyes from the circling skies. Meeting my foal for the first time was the most exciting thing about Hogwarts so far. Obviously, she was scared by my presence at first, but letting her get used to it as I cleaned out her stall proved helpful. I don't think the apple did any harm, either! She's even more beautiful than the pictures - I took Adventures with Athonians out of the library yesterday - but maybe I'm biased because she's mine.
I've yet to name her, though: nothing seems to fit. I'm thinking Sydney, after Pink Floyd's guitarist. After all, it's their lyrics that inspired my journal title. They're this old, progressive No-Maj rock band that this Ravenclaw boy introduced me to, which I now realise is irrelevant here. They also have a song called Walk With Me Sydney. Or maybe Emily, after See Emily Play. I guess I'll see which fits her best tomorrow.
Entry 2: Tongue-tied and twisted; just an earth-bound misfit. A few weeks ago I saw an advertisement for Winged Horses coats in the back of the Daily Prophet, so of course I asked my father's to buy one, rather than sending me this months allowance. It's beautiful, a grey velvet that offsets the chestnut coat, and it's charmed to grow as she does, which I think is rather ingenious. Floyd is growing so quickly, and today I decided to take her out and let her stretch her wings. It was really cold, but she didn't seem to mind, and although she couldn't stay airborne for long, she seemed to enjoy her time out there, and she definitely didn't seem to want me to leave.
Entry 3: Ice is forming on the tips of my wings. Today was the first time seeing Floyd since the Christmas holidays. I was really scared that she wouldn't remember me, or she'd be wary due to the lack of contact we've had, and then I remembered learning about Ehwaz in Ancient Runes. I'm pretty sure the horse I used during the lesson was a relation of Floyd's, and I've been practicing the use of the Rune on my new owl, so it's definitely getting stronger. It seemed to work with her, too - she really wouldn't leave me alone, and new what I wanted her to do and how I thought she could fly. And when I was cold, she didn't even need encouragement to go back into her stall! I'm so excited to keep using it and see how it helps us develop our bond!
Entry 4: A soul in tension that's learning to fly. Floyd is getting better at flying every time I take her out. I wish I could ride her, but she's still fairly small, and I'm sure I read that she wouldn't be fully grown until around four - I need to check that with Professor Wayland, though. Either way, I'm too scared of hurting her, but levitating sugar cubes for her to chase was a brilliant idea. It's a shame the weather forced us in early. I'm still waiting on a letter from my dads, to see if they've found somewhere close by us where she can stay for the summer. I really hope they have.
Entry 5: A flight of fancy on a windswept field. I don't care if London is great for my dads jobs. I might go and live with my mother and step-father in the countryside, even if I've never lived with them before ever, and I know I'll hate it, at least I'd be able to take Floyd with me. I just know I'm going to be terribly distraught over summer without being able to see her. Maybe Professor Wayland would let me do weekend visits - but how creepy would it be to be at the Castle when it is empty? She's grown so much, and seems not to mind when I act like a spoilt brat, which Dad obviously would hate. She's eating more and more food everyday, so maybe I'll be able to ride her next year. I don't even know. I hope she doesn't fall out of love with me over the holidays: at least if that does happen, I know my Ehwaz rune helped us to bond, so maybe that could work again.
I don't want to need it, though. Maybe she'll miss me, too.

SPOILER!!: Entries
Entry 1:
Hi Professor,
Thank you very much for the chance to look after a boy cruppy this term! Today I went to see him for the very first time ever, and he is the cutest cruppy ever! He's really little and fluffy and he likes to play. He had an accident in his kennel, so I used cleaning spells to get rid of it for him. I think he had the accident right before I came in because it was gross and stuff. But that's okay, he's a baby! Then I fed him and then we played in the nursery pasture for a super long time. I was trying to play fetch, but I don't think he understands the game yet. He just ran around with the ball in his mouth and ran away from me, which is totally cheating! So we played chase instead. It was so fun! Then he looked sleepy and I had dumb lessons to go to. I don't have a name yet, but I'm going to work super hard to find the perfect one.
I decided to name the cruppy Sirius! My friends helped me and the name is a star-group thingy in our Astronomy textbook too. It's been a while since I wrote one of these, but I've been going to see Sirius every day. But weekends are better for this journal thing, because there's not too much time between lessons and stuff, you know? Today is a Saturday!
Sirius has gotten bigger than the itty bitty fluff ball he was when I first met him, but he's still puppy size, not grown up size. He learned his name a while ago, but I noticed that these days he turns and looks at me EVERY TIME I say his name! He used to ignore me sometimes. Also, he plays tug-of-war with a rope now. I think that means he's getting smarter and stuff, maybe?
He doesn't like baths AT ALL, so I made up a trick. He gets to play in puddles after his baths if he doesn't run away completely; it worked today, but we'll see if it works later. I don't know if it will, because I don't know if he understood puddles and baths are linked. He's a smart cruppy, though, he's the best ever!
Sirius is still growing. He's not as little and baby-ish as he was at the beginning of term, but he's not adult crup size yet either. He's getting smarter too. He knows his name EVERY time now, and he knows some English words and small sentences too! Like food and come and bring it back!
He still has LOADS of energy all the time! He's the cutest cruppy ever, and he loves running around and playing keep-away with his ball. I think it's super cool how he has his own personality, you know? He gets all smug and happy when he can keep the ball away from me or when he fetches it and stuff.
Oh, he's also super better about letting me brush him now. I don't HAVE to keep his leash on anymore, I just hold him real lightly. It's still sooo much better if he's all sleepy when I brush him though. I think he secretly likes it, because he wags his tail when he's sleepy and I do it.
I went to the nursery super early in the morning to see Sirius and give him a treat! He was really, really happy and I think he likes bacon a lot! I only gave him little tiny bites, and the library book I checked out on crups said that was okay. Sirius is kind of sleepy in the mornings, but we went out for our walk and I used "Evanesco" on his potty business. Then we played tug-of-war and then I had to go! But I told Sirius allll about Hogsmeade during our game, and I think he's a good listener and he's really smart for a cruppy. He's bigger since I last wrote in here, but he's not grown up Crup size yet. I'm pretty sure that library book said he won't be a grown up size for a whole year!
I've been seeing Sirius every day, but I decided to write another journal entry because it's been a while since my last one. It's near the end of April now. Sirius is LOTS bigger than he was at the beginning of term, and I can't believe how long it's been! This term went by super fast, and Sirius can run super fast now too. He's also way super dramatic. Like, if I don't give him a treat he gives me these BIIG wide cruppy eyes and looks all cute on purpose! I don't give in, but he's so silly. I bet it works on grown ups other people. Anyway, today I brushed him all sneakily while he was eating. He doesn't mind it so much then. Then we played fetch and keep away in the pasture connected to the nursery for hours and hours until it was time to go in.

Dancing Through Life
SPOILER!!: Journal Entries, Rooney A. Bronwyn
Entry 1: As Long as You're Mine
And so it begins: parenthood. As thrilled as one would be when given the starring role (or creature in this case), I was delighted to give my Augurey chick a name from the first musical I fell in love with. Fiyero is his name and dancing through life is his game. Fiyero and I engaged in a soothing singing session when I was on my free period today - Fiyero nibbled on insects and flies, whilst I did all of the singing. (I am the trained professional, so I don't blame him at all) He's smaller than I expected an Augurey chick to be, but I have never seen one so I'm not surprised that I was surprised. I'm going to look more into the history of this creature later and ask Mr Kennedy for some help with book suggestions - he's great. I really like him actually. (And you too, Professor Wayland)
Fiyero was a little more attached than I would hope for when I had to leave, he didn't want to go back in his cage. Not yet sure if this is my magic singing voice or just a calm presence. I hope he and Elphaba are getting along. Note to self: ask Olivia if she's been down to see her chick yet. Another note to self: get some lunch.
Entry 2: And helping you with your ascent..
..allows me to feel so parental, for I am a sentimental man.
I feel like Fiyero has tuned into the fact that Olivia and I are no longer together and at this point will never be again. He has this thing where he cries around me -- research says this is to signal rain, but it definitely did not rain on that day. I had this vision of us being a happy little family, but clearly that will not be the case. It'll be Fiyero and I against the world, very clearly. We'll take on university and whatever else the future throws at us.
Today I introduced Fiy (I call him that now) to his new home. I've been working on a bramble nest since I got my creature assignment. It's of similar shape and thickness to those that Augurey's build themselves in the wild, with the addition of a cage door for when we travel to home from Hogwarts and then to university. I want him to have a place that is his own, so he can grow and nurture himself as he's independent like that. I think I may be in love with my creature, definitely.
He's eating well and his wings are well in form. Flying seems easy for him now. It's hard to believe how little he was all those weeks ago.

I got to meet my bowtruckle today! Okay... so she was sleeping so it wasn't a great first meeting, but I still got to see her. I named her Epiphany, Pip for short. She is so cute. She is a bright green color, the color of grass on the first day of spring. She was sleeping and snoring. It makes me wonder if I snore. Anyways, hopefully next visit I will be able to engage more with her. Im going to research what they like to eat and drink and make sure she's getting the proper nutrients. Until next time!

A Kara's Life
SPOILER!!: journal entry
Entry 1:
I was so excited with this extra credit, really! So I signed up and chose three creatures that I really wanted to take care; a crup, abraxan and granian. But then Professor Wayland decided to give me a female crup pup which is SO EXCITING! And I got to meet her for the first time today, she's very cute and fluffy with grey and white fur. I named her Kara because... Well, there's no reason behind that name and I just love it! I introduced myself to her and we play catch-a-ball. It was so fun!
Entry 2:
I don't have any class to attend today, so I decided to visit my baby crup Kara. She seemed so happy to see me because her tails were wiggling and her bark sounded excited! I got her a pack of crup biscuit and she loved it. So I made a mental note to always bring some biscuits for her whenever I came visiting.
Entry 3:
Today, I decided to do some maintenance to Kara. I was about to give her a bath but then my mind had changed to just brushing her teeth instead. I told you, brushing the crup's teeth was not as easy as a pie, but thankfully I had done that on my practical OWL last term. She didn't seem like it, but I had to do that so Kara would have such a killer smile and healthy teeth.
Entry 4
I came back again today to the nursery. And as I had promised, I was going to give Kara a bath. It's not that easy because somehow I had experienced that in the class with Professor Draper and on my OWL, but at least I knew how to do it. My crup didn't really like the cold water and the shampoo for a moment, but then she seemed enjoying the scrubbing and soaping. After the bath had done, I used the towel to dried her up and a hot-air charm.
Entry 5
I have been thinking to adopt Kara. Well, Preston (my cat) might not be about it but I have been attached with this crup, sadly. But I would not abandon any of them and will love them equally. Today, I visited Kara again because I have a special present for her. Well, obviously I would give her the biscuit as her favorite treat. But I got something else, a chew toy that I ordered days ago! Kara seemed very happy with the new toy. Once I am officially adopting her, I think I'm going to get her a collarbone with her name.

Shining, shimmering, splendid adventures of Vivian and Goldilocks
Text Cut: Vivian's journal entries
Entry 1
Today, I finally got to meet my female baby niffler for the first time! I prepared a small picnic for the both of us, although I was too amazed to even eat. LOL. I also decided to name her "Goldilocks" because nifflers love shiny things, like gold, by nature. I gave Goldilocks water and infant niffler feed. At first, she had a hard time trying to drink some water but, after a few attempts, Goldilocks was finally able to do it on her own with a little guidance from Mama Vivian! My ickle is such a smart little girl.
Entry 2
I went to visit Goldilocks during my break time today. I had brought with me a couple of knuts and a piece of thread for our little exercise that I prepared for the both of us. I glued the end of the thread and the coin together to form a make-shift pendulum. Goldilocks and I had fun in the pasture where we did our activity. I dangled the knut over her head and she tried to jump for her to reach it. Of course, she won in the end. Although I lost my knut (sorry, dad), I'm glad Goldilocks got to exercise her little legs. Keep it up, little one! <3
Entry 3
I feel like I sometimes fail at being a creature mum to Goldilocks. I've been so busy lately because of the amount of homework I have, but I made it a point to visit her today during my free time. Goldilocks is a lucky little niffler because I usually don't do homework early since I'm more of a spontaneous type of student. However, when I arrived at the nursery, my ickle baby was asleep. Timing could not get any worse, apparently, but I couldn't do much. I didn't want to wake her up, so I carefully took her in my arm and used my wand hand to clean up her cage and fill up her water container. If Goldilocks woke up surprised, that would be the best gift I could give her to make up for the lost times. I'm sorry, Goldilocks! I'm a better mama than this. =(
Entry 4
Before coming to visit Goldilocks, I found out that I had accidentally packed a tiny and old dress that I used to wear. Instead of throwing it away though, I decided to shrink it to fit the size of a baby niffler. Of course, I just want Goldilocks to be the prettiest one out there. And guess what? It actually fits! I made sure my ickle is going to look good on our niffler play date with Sky soon. And we played a little bit, and then I refilled her water container and cleaned up her cage. Goldilocks likes to make a mess, so she must be really lucky to have a loving and caring mama like me.
Entry 5
Today's the day! Goldilocks and I have been looking forward to this day since Sky and I had planned for it to happen. It was just made in the stars that we both got nifflers of different genders, so holding a play date was definitely part of our list. I came by earlier than the time scheduled so I could dress Goldilocks up with the dress that shrunk last time. I also prepared a blanket and some food (marshmallows were a must) for Sky and me, so we would feel comfortable. I could definitely tell that Goldilocks was excited too because she kept wiggling around!

SPOILER!!: Shay's entries
Entry 1:
I met my new baby crup today and I can officially say that I am in love. She is the cutest thing ever and my first ever non-goldfish pet. Her name is Coco and I guess that is because of the brown/tan color on her head and the mask-like area around her eyes. Otherwise she is pretty much white. Today we got to know each other and I think this is going to be a beautiful friendship. I cleaned her kennel and gave her food and water today, so she was good to go. Coco is a frisky little puppy and I can't wait to go back and play with her. This is absolutely my favorite assignment.
I came to visit Coco today. She is growing right before my eyes. Pretty soon she won't be a baby anymore. Well, she will always be my baby, of course. Today I feed her and gave her water. Her pen was cleaned and then came the fun part. I brushed her to make sure she didn't have any knots in her fur. Then we had a bath. I think I was more wet than she was after the whole process. I can't wait to see her again.
Entry 3:
I visited Coco today and she really seemed to enjoy my visit. I had a surprise for her, which was a puppy toy. We played throw and fetch until we were both too tired to go on. I think she really likes me and I know that I really love her. She's a very smart crup and I think she "gets me". I can't wait to start teaching her tricks.
Entry 4
When I went to see Coco today, she seemed very excited to see me. She was really energetic today. She loves to play. I can't believe how big my crup has gotten. It seems like just yesterday that she was a teeny little thing. She loves to eat and I guess that has contributed to her growth. Coco is learning to follow some commands and she's pretty good at "come". We're going to work on sit and stay too. I am so glad that I've had the opportunity to care for her this term.
Entry 5
Today I had a very successful visit with Coco. She is coming along nicely with her training. I expect that she will be able to sit on command, without any prompting, very soon. She is frisky, but well behaved and that is good. Coco has come such a long way from the time we first met. It's like we are on the same wavelength. We definitely have a connection. I have come to realize that I don't want to give her up when the term ends.

The Princess and the Jarvey
A tale of unlikely friendship
SPOILER!!: Journal Entries
Entry 1:
Today I got to meet Curt. Well, his name wasn't always Curt, but I figured it was a suitable name considering what his personality will be like when he's older what with the speaking rudely and what not. He was quite hard to find in the dark corner of his cage, but when he did emerge, he was the cutest thing. It almost looked as if he was wearing a little mask with the coloring on his face and his long body looked like it could easily fit through tunnels in the ground. He was quite curious about me, almost as curious as I was about him, and he was bold enough to come and see what I was up to while I was tidying up. He has a good appetite, I noticed. What surprised me, though, was that he didn't say much. Maybe they're like babies in that way. Like, they need to work up to saying phrases. That's something I'm going to investigate further as we get to know each other.
Entry 2:
Curt is bigger now, his body taking up more room inside his living space. He seems to be getting used to me, too. He's not as shy as he was during our first encounter and he came to me straight away, as if he recognized my voice. It could also be that he associates me with food, which I guess isn't a bad thing. Oh! He's pretty good at remembering fingers aren't food, too. I consider that a big accomplishment.
He's got this great appetite, which I think is a good thing. I mean, I know you have to be concerned when creatures aren't eating and I don't think I'll have to worry about that with him. I'm still feeding him small amounts at a time because I don't want him to get sick, you know? Cleaning up jarvey vomit does not sound appealing to me. I think I'll slowly increase just how much he gets and make sure to consult my text book so I know I'm on the right track.
One other thing I noticed was that Curt was babbling! I couldn't understand ALL of it, but I'm pretty sure he said the word "wimp" and also the word "ugly." I know he couldn't have been talking about ME, but I do wonder who he WAS talking about. Also, where is he learning these phrases from? I'm going to investigate, I am.
Entry 3:
It's clear to see that Curt's need for stimulation and activity is growing. He's always excited when I turn up now and he is always wanting to play. I think curious creatures need new outlets to learn and grown, and especially ones who are intelligent. His speech is much clearer now, too. I make an effort to talk lots to him, even if his replies are rude and off putting. I was hoping he'd maybe pick up some kind words from me, but I haven't seen any evidence of that thus far.
I've noticed that the bigger Curt gets, the clumsier his movements are. It's like he wants to go so fast, and he's so excited, that he doesn't know how to handle his big body. It's really kind of cute and it gives me a good laugh whenever he trips himself up. He doesn't seem to mind, though.
I've decided to do a food test to see which of the meats Curt likes best. I think he's eager to participate in my little experiment because it means eating and a love of food is something we have in common. I'm enjoying my time with him.
Entry 4
Curt likes moles best. They're gross looking and all, but I guess I need to be respectful of his choices and I'm glad to know what might make him happiest as far as food choices go. He's still eating lots and he's bigger still, which makes me happy. I feel like it means he's getting everything he needs nutrient-wise. I also feel like that means he's going to need more exercise. Luckily the little obstacle course I made him seemed to be a hit. I think it provides just the right mix of challenge and activity for him, although I am thinking I should make it bigger and more difficult. I'm also wondering about socializing him because I don't ever want him to be lonely. I can't imagine a life without friends.
He's warm, Curt is. Not like fever warm, but the nice kind. I notice that when he's seeking affection and I guess I didn't think much of it until now. It's the reason he probably prefers the dark, cool places to hide. It must be.
His words are clearer and come out in full sentences now. No trouble understanding him, that's for sure. I still wonder if that's a good thing or not, but what can you do? He's just being his true, authentic self. I guess I can't fault him for that.
Entry 5
The moment you realize your baby isn't such a baby anymore is pretty weird. I was just looking at Curt, noting his size, when I realized her wasn't going to get any bigger than he was in that moment. It made me realize just how much time I'd spent with him this term, and how far he'd come. It was cool. It was also a little sad, I mean, that time had gone by so quickly. I wish I'd taken pictures of him during that first meeting, but maybe I can capture the memory in a sketch just as well. Maybe.
Curt is so smart, Professor. I timed him during a few passes through the obstacle course I set up and it took him no time at all to find the quickest path to his food at the other end. I wish I could figure things out that quickly. I think he really enjoys being challenged. The reward at the end sure doesn't hurt, either.
Baths aren't Curt's favorite thing. He seemed sort of uneasy about the whole getting wet thing, but I realized the key to washing him is to make it quick so he doesn't get too cold. I also made sure not to submerge him in water. I just used a wash cloth and he smelled pretty clean after, so I think that works just as well. He was so cute and sleepy after we were done, I bet he gets the best rest he's had in a while.
It's been really fun watching him learn and grow...although I still kind of wish he said nicer things. I'm trying to accept the whole rude aspect of his character, I am.

But I think baby creatures are probably easier to take care of than baby humans. Still, I am going to do my best to give Aurora everything she needs. A Very Un-Wicked Tale
SPOILER!!: Entries
Entry One:
The first meeting was an exciting one for me, as I didn't think I'd get the creature of my choosing. Not an irrational fear as there are so many kids at this school, but I deviate. My baby bird resembled a ball of fluff and wispy feathers when I fist laid eyes on her. She wasn't exactly responsive to me, but we'd only just met, so I wasn't offended or anything. In fact, I tried to keep my voice low enough when speaking with her, but I think she was still overwhelmed. What with this strange human suddenly showing up and talking at her. I already love her, you realize. Just from meeting her this one time. I have so many plans for her, and my hope is strong that I'm allowed to adopt her one day. So, that I may add her to my family.
Entry Two:
I've been tending to Elphie for several weeks now, and she's still not exactly warmed up to me, I don't think. I could be wrong, of course. I've taken to reading by her cageside. Mostly muggle fairytales as they're my favorites, but it's my experience that all children enjoy stories. So, why not creatures, as well? As for her growth, she's already starting to get much bigger, and I fear that the cage might be too cramped for her as she continues to grow. I've got something in mind for after break, and I hope she likes it. Also, she really likes music from Cinderella. This proves that she's my soulmate, honestly.
Entry Three:
I made Elphie a nest!...which was very hard, actually, but when I get to adopt her, she'll like spending time outside of a cage. She didn't seem that impressed, but I figure when I return tomorrow, I'll be able to tell if she's bothered with it at all. If not, I'll remove it and we'll pretend that never happened. Also, I think after it's all said and done, I'll enlarge the cage. It's a tight fit with the nest, perch, and her...surely it can't be that comfortable. If I weren't so nervous that she'd fly away, I'd definitely let her out. Eh, I made a promise to try after more bonding time. That probably sounds stupid, but maybe if she's given time to love me, she'll be less likely to ditch me. A failed philosophy with humans, but creatures seem to be more loyal, anyway.
Entry Four:
Elphie has started to sing! And, of course, I was just a bit nervous due to the superstitions surround the augurey's cry, but I'm choosing not to put any belief in all that. It's a beautiful, mournful sound and strangely enough, I've found myself comforted by it since I made my return to school. I come every morning, and simply sit in her presence. Sometimes I talk to her, sometimes she just sings. It's taken some doing, but I'm slowly learning my way. And she's done so well with her nest! Elphie's been spending more time down in it and less time on the perch during our visits. I think...she's sensitive to the fact that my feelings may be hurt if she doesn't, which sounds strange, I know...but it makes me feel better. As an aside, she's has only grown more beautiful these last few weeks. Her feathers gleam like diamonds on water, and...I just love her. that's all. Plain and simple.
Entry Five:
Today was bittersweet for me. Seeing Elphie all grown up and perfectly lovely with her gleaming wings and gorgeous coloring...It made my heart ache. What if I'm not allowed to adopt her? What if I did something wrong throughout all of this and won't be allowed to bring her home with me? I'd be heartbroken. I'm leaving Hogwarts after this term, travelling to the distant land of America for my Sixth Year...and I want her to accompany me. I need my good luck omen with me, you see? It's important.

The Beauty of Friendship
SPOILER!!: Entries
Entry 1 :
I got to meet Fluffy for the first time today. I'd never really interacted with Puffskein before but this was an altogether entirely new experience and it was lovely, to say the least. I wasn't sure what to name him at first but I wanted to come up with something that would suit him and the way he looked.. so, Fluffy.
The more time I got to spend with Fluffy, the more I wanted him with me all the time. He had the tendency to make me feel extremely relaxed, to not have to worry about schoolwork or exams for just that one hour or so and it made such a difference. Who would have thought that we'd have gotten along so well? I definitely didn't. And he had started to recognise me somehow? I regularly cleaned his surroundings and brought him food, which only made him like me better.. I think? Or maybe he liked me singing to him? Even thought I don't have a very good singing voice.
I wanted to spend some extra time with my precious Fluffy today.. so I decided to give him a bath. I wasn't sure how Puffskein reacted to water since I hadn't really done enough research on them but I decided to take a chance, anyway. Turned out, my guess was right. Fluffy seemed to love playing in the water.. and watching him enjoying himself only made me even more happy. Also, I had learnt that Fluffy seemed to make this odd humming sound whenever he was content.. especially when I brushed his thick hair. I wished I could have spent a lot more time bonding with him but then again, OWLs were approaching and I simply didn't have the extra time. Unfortunately.
I ended up running a little late today.. and Fluffy was asleep. I'd brought textbooks along so I decided to get some reading done while I watched him sleeping peacefully but the most amazing part was that the second he'd woken up, he started to waddle towards me! Of course, it was obvious that he would properly recognise me at this point but to actually watch him crawl into my lap literally made my day. He really was the most adorable little thing. I've learnt a lot about Puffskein, thanks to Fluffy. They actually aren't the messiest of creatures, they are quiet ( but oh-so-cute at the same time ) and most importantly.. they seem to be very friendly too. At least, Fluffy was. He really seemed to love me petting him, being around him, laughing with him.. I almost feel like he is part of me now.
Today I noticed that Fluffy wasn't a baby anymore. He seemed to have grown up a little.. which only made her tear up a little. What if I don't get to see him anymore? Or adopt him? Frankly, after spending so much time with my Fluffy, I just can't imagine not being around him at all. And he really seemed to adore me too. I have really loved watching him grow and learn.. and I only hope that he'll get to be with me all the time.
