History of Magic Lesson One - Improving the Wizarding World It's a rather chilly morning in mid-November, so Rosalyn had made sure to place heating charms throughout the classroom. She had also prepared hot chocolate for any of her students who would like some. Nothing like a nice hot drink when it was getting closer to winter. Cups of it were waiting on a table by her desk, and there was a plate of rice crispy squares as well. Those, like all the other snacks she provided were self-replenishing. Sipping from her mug of coffee, she sat at her desk and waited for the students to start arriving. Hopefully they would like today's lesson. Lesson Progression: What are some ways that a person could help to make the world a better place? Who do you think has made the best contribution to the wizarding world? Activity time OOC: |
There was no real reason for Levi to continue taking History of Magic on a NEWT level; it just wasn't one of the classes required for the career path he intended to follow. But he decided against dropping the subject altogether because it required thinking and reading, activities he found stimulating and therefore enjoyed immensely. He wandered into the classroom and shot a smile at Professor Newton. His nose wrinkled, at the smell of chocolate, and Levi allowed it to lead the way. The snacks he passed on, but the hot chocolate was a treat and he helped himself generously with it before finding a seat somewhere around the middle of the classroom. Oh, right. Smiles were likely not considered enough as far as greetings went. "Hello, Professor." |
Merlin she was NOT looking forward to this. History of Magic was hard. Not because of the content but how most of the knowledge acquisition took place. The thing with history was...it already happened. It was in the past. There was no doing studies and getting pending results because it had already been done and for the most part required reading. It wasn't to say that Jessa disliked reading but rather that she found learning harder when it was solely through a textbook. Leisure reading was amazing, but too much academic reading without a practical outlet had a way of doing her head in. "Hello Professor." The young girl greeted politely enough. She moved over to the refreshments, grabbing herself a cup of hot chocolate and a rice crispy. Jessa then took her seat and sunk into it. No, she wasn't looking forward to this lesson, but the hot chocolate certainly helped. Also, "Hi Levi." Because Althea said she'd talk to him for her, which obviously meant it was officially okay to greet him herself too. |
Can we sit witchu?! Quote:
Oh wait. Professor. "Good day, Professor, " she said sweetly as before swiftly turning and making her way to her housemate. She didn't yet utter a word to him. Currently she was digging through her bag for her quill and parchment. ...and trying to ignore the fact that he had taken DRINK FROM A PROFESSOR. It made her eye twitch involuntarily. But, with great effort, she kept it in. No need to repeat that particular class last term. Ugh. Once she had finally settled back, the blonde girl crossed her hands on top of her desk and smiled over at Levi. "Hey. How's it goin? " BOOM! NAILED THE CASUAL GREETING. Also don't look at the twitchy eye. And there was the Ravenclaw that seemed to recoil at her very presence. Jessa. How odd. WHATEVER COULD DORA HAVE DONE TO make her feel... whatever she had felt about her? CURIOUS. But the Gryffindor covered her twitchy eye with one hand before waving with the other. A smile was even offered. "And you, Jessa... how are you? " Not abrasive. Weird, but not abrasive. |
Well Winter is really coming innit? Bundled up with heating charms to boot, the Gryffindor Ace walked into History class, a ready smile for the pretty Prof "Mornin Professor Newton!" he greeted the brunette. No longer confused he was with his class schedule see? Only one Newton on the list And yes grabbing a hot cocoa and some |
Wassup @ Ace. Quote:

And she wasn't even really that young anyway. He went back to his hot coco, or rather intended to, but then Dora showed up and common courtesy dictated he had to acknowledge her in the same manner he'd acknowledged Jessa. Or maybe more because he was actually friends with Dora. Even if the hot coco was calling his name. "Hi." Smile. "I'm great. You?" Levi would have gone on unaware of whatever turmoil Dora may or may not have gone through had it not been for the fact that his was, strangely enough, covering one of her eyes. "Is it... Pirate Day today, Dora?" Or was this just her thing with food like last term in Charms? Levi looked down at his hot coco then at Pirate Dora and shrugged. Anyway. There was Tenacius. He got a wave and a smile. Now, back to the hot coco. |
mention of everyone here so far :P Stasya felt like she was warm enough as she’d found her way down the corridors to the History of magic classroom. Actually, she was more worried about Dobby and Albus, out there in the barn and the nursery, so she was really ignoring the fact she was sort of cold. As she’d walked through the doorway into the classroom, she’d had her robes wrapped tightly around her, her arms basically hugging herself. But she relaxed as she feeling of the heating charms hit her, and she managed to give Professor Newton a big smile as she headed straight for the smell of hot chocolate coming from the table near the professor’s desk. “Good morning Professor Newton,” she added, taking a cup from the table before going to look for a seat. She already knew that certain people probably would’ve been weird about her taking the cocoa, but it was cold. If all the food and drinks in the castle were bad, she’d starve. And probably freeze too, even if she was determined to learn spells to help with that. She already knew the fire charm and the heating charm Professor Marchand had taught them, so she figured it’d be easy to learn others too. But this was History, so she probably wouldn’t hear about any right now. Jessa, Levi and Ace had all taken cocoa too, so that meant it couldn’t be bad. Either way, she’d found a seat sort of near them but still leaving space for when other people came if they wanted. “Hi Jessa,” she said with another smile, also turning it to the three older Gryffindors. Hi to everyone. Mhm. And now cocoa. |
Melbourne had R U N all of the way down to History of Magic. It was a wonder that she wasn’t panting as she made it to the doorway and stepped into the classroom a bright grin on her face. Taking a steadying breath she looked around the room and smiled at Rosalyn – gosh, she was pretty and sooooo nice. ”Hello Professor Newton,” she smiled up at the MUCH taller and well…honestly older woman that she respect oh so much. ”Thank you for the treats Professor,” she smiled softly and looked around the room before taking a mug of hot chocolate and grabbing herself a rice crispy square and heading to find a desk. |
mentions, mostly Stasya and Jessa It was way too cold in this castle. Emmeline was shivering as she entered the classroom, and she was holding her robes as tightly around herself as she could to keep the precious warmth from escaping. Of course, she might be so cold because she'd forgotten to grab her cloak this morning and had run down to the nursery to see Sirius anyway -- but she'd been worried about him. Barns weren't much cover for the poor creatures. Sirius had been fine; she supposed she should have thought of his fur coat before she went all the way down there and back to the castle for this very lesson, but it was too late now. "M-morning, Professor,"she greeted the teacher kind of quietly. The heating spells were definitely helping already, but the first year still made a beeline for the hot chocolate. Derf had warned her about the food professors gave out, but she saw several older kids with cups too, and Stasya, and Jessa, so she figured this hot chocolate was okay. Everyone in the classroom got a smile and a wave from Emmeline; she knew most of them since they were her Housemates except for Jessa. She picked a seat in easy talking-distance of Stasya AND Jessa. "Hi Stasya! Hi Jessa!". There were still seats in between the girls though, because what about Derf and Abey? Although sometimes Abey sat with older kids, she'd left a seat for him if he wanted it. |
Etta yawned as she made to her next class. It was one of those mornings when you just wanted to sleep in but she didn't like missing classes. Firstly, she was a prefect and she had a reputation to maintain and second of all, missing class would mean missing notes. Most of the classes were fun anyway, thanks to the professors. She entered the class, giving the professor a bright smile. "Hello, professor. Hope you're well today." She skipped the drinks and crispy treats since she'd just had coffee so she made her way to a seat somewhere near the middle and sat down, dropping her bag to the floor before turning to give her fellow classmates a wave. She pulled out her parchment and quill, excited to see what the professor had in store of them today. Hopefully, something interesting! |
It was starting to get colder in the corridors of Hogwarts so Olivia was very glad that the History of Magic classroom was already nice and warm. Entering the classroom, she made her way over to the Professor. "Hello Professor Newton! How are you?" she asked with a polite smile before heading to grab some hot chocolate. Hot chocolate made everything better. Olivia was certain of that. Then she headed over to Grab a seat next to Etta. Before she did that, she gave a wave and grin to her fellow housemates. "Hey Etta! How's it going?" she asked as she slipped her bag off of her shoulder and onto the floor and took a seat. |
Vivian was very appreciative of many things in life, and one of these would be the fact that the next class, History of Magic, was just on the first floor of the castle. It meant she was nearer to her Common Room and thank Merlin for that. She'd struggled a lot to gather enough motivation to attend classes, especially with Astronomy class up at the Astronomy tower. Imagine the amount of steps she had to take from the Dungeons to that classroom? So yes, Vivian was in good vibes at the moment. Skipping inside the classroom as always, Vivian smiled at her professor. "G'morning, Professor Newton," she greeted and then settled for a seat at the second row. The Slytherin only sat in the front row for Professor Pretty Hirsch's classes, exclusively. "Ooooooooh, hot chocolate! May I grab a mug, Professor?" Can't deny the fact it was chilly today. Plus, she had packed a few marshmallows instead her sling bag today. Hot chocolate and marshmallows would mix well on this weather. Yaaaay for today. |
WARRRRMMMTTHHHHHHHH. As Abey stepped into the classroom, warmth washed over him, followed by RELIEF. The corridors were draughty and, in Abey's expert opinion, freezing, and it felt GOOD to be in a nice warm classroom, EVEN THOUGH it was literally easily Abey's least favourite and worst class. "Good morning, Professor," Abey greeted Newton - the only Newton now, which made it a little easier to remember... sort of... maybe... not really - with a smile, as he made a beeline for the hot chocolate. "Thank you for all the warm." Very grateful. Very very very grateful. Looking out over the classroom, Abey tried to find someone to sit with. There was no Rula or Junia, and no Daisy yet, though there was a Levi but he was sat with Dora and Abey thought that perhaps they didn't want to be bothered by a second year today, especially one that would keep needing help in the lesson, probably. Abey's VILLAIN wasn't here yet either, but there were a bunch of other students close to his age that Abey could sit with. Like with Emmeline! Abey gave her a smile and a "Hello!" as he went to sit with her, near Jessa, setting his hot chocolate down because it was too hot to drink at the moment, and instead holding his hands over the cup to warm them up. |
Abey's VILLAIN was HERE now! Here and making a beeline right towards the Gryffindor in fact - after giving the professor a hurried wave and GRIN, of course. There were a few erratic waves here and there - like at LEVI because that was another champion who he needed to get a signature for on his t-shirt and of course he waved at Dora too - and plopped himself riiiiiiight down in the seat next to Abey. ..........and he had hot chocolate. NOOOOOOOOOO! "ABEYNOYOUCAN'T," he hissed so as not to cause a scene. "I've been warned NOT to trust the food given by profes-ssors! They put OTHER things-s-s in it." And besides, hadn't Abey seen his very thoughtful and well drawn posters from last term? The one about there being HAGS on staff?? And yes, hello Emmeline and Stasya. Yes hello. Hi. They shouldn't eat or drink anything either. |
Cooouple mentions She wasn't gonna lie, she was a little deflated at the distracted, lackluster returned greeting from the Gryffindor. It must have been her. She didn't exactly fall into his circle of friends--poor guy was probably embarrassed to have a Third Year talking to him when he was such a super famous Hogwarts Champion with older, more mature friends, like Dora who'd just strolled in. Her heart did a little flutter sort of thing when Levi belatedly turned to offer her a smile and she was sure to smile back but the feeling was quickly replaced with a sinking one when Dora took the seat next to him. On impulse, Jessa lowered her gaze to her hot chocolate, not wanting the girl to yell at her for being rude--or offend her by staring too long in her direction, or anything else that was likely to set her off. It came as quite the surprise when she heard her call her name....and...ask how she was....doing....? Huh? Jessa blinked, unsure what was really happening before quickly blurting out "Fine. I'm fine." A little too quickly. Not gonna offend this one, nope. Noooope. Didn't need that kind of intimidating hostility again. NOPE. "And you?" Peeeerfectly polite. Not even gonna mention the eye thing. It was a welcome relief when both Stasya and Emmeline walked into the room and took seats near her. She could just focus on them and not the Gryffindor that could switch at the flip of a galleon. "Hey guys!" She returned their greetings with a grin. The grin grew wider at Melbourne's compliment. "Thanks! Figured I'd save myself a second walk to the table." And there was Abey wandering in just before Derf did. He got a smile as he took the spot near her as well. Abey was already good people in her book, but he became better people after that science club meeting when he didn't lose it like everyone else did. And what was Derf whispering on about now? |
Quick phone post ^_^ There was reason for Skylar to be excited for History of Magic and it had nothing to do with the subject matter, so much as the Professor. Professor Newton - the only one now - was always so thoughtful and amazing. Much like that boyfriend, or was it fiancé, of hers. Except for one minor thing. She distinctly smelled coffee by the woman and yet there was only hot cocoa by the refreshment table. Nothing against hot cocoa, especially with the cold Scottish months approaching, but a cup of coffee would be great to help maintain her alertness right now. "Hello Professor! How come no coffee option for the rest of us?" the fourth year smiled politely as she took a seat near the front, yet not THE front. |

Bentley burst in through the door with an obvious pep in his step. Today was going to be a great day! He had decided on it. Nothing was going to get him down...not even back to back classes with no break in between. "Morning professor!" He flashed her a dimpled grin before snatching one cup of hot chocolate off the table. He thanked her with a nod and a grin. The sixth year lion then scanned the class for his friends. Oh there was LEVI. Bentley took the seat to the other side of his dorm mate but not before nudging him first. "You know you could have waited. I don't mind a bit of company to class every now and then." He said to the middle Kenning. |
History of Magic was NOT one of Lucy's strongsuits, despite the lack of wandwork. There was just too much to memorize and keep straight. It was hard to tell goblins apart when she was trying to fill her head with so much other information. So she came to class prepared to pay close attention. The warmth of the classroom was welcome. So was the hot chocolate. Lucy helped herself to a glass and found her normal seat in the front of the room. She made sure to take out her parchment and quill for note-taking before she allowed herself to enjoy her beverage treat. |
What arrived for History of Magic class in a rather good mood. As she entered the classroom, her mood got an even bigger boost. Hot chocolate? And was that.......rice krispy treats? Well Shay was just about in heaven at that point. "Hello Professor", she said with unrestrained glee. Snacks and good snacks at that. What could be better? "Hello everyone", Shay said to the masses, then made a beeline for the snack table. After getting her cocoa and rice krispy treats, she found a seat and made herself comfortable. Yes, her goodies would keep her well occupied until class started. |
Sitting with a Lucy Daisy's approach to choosing her NEWT level classes had been pretty straight forward. Pick what she liked (and what her Mum told her was useful and, quote, You absolutely need to study that, Daisy Elladora) and dropped the things she wasn't interested in. History of Magic was not her favourite but the classes were interesting enough and usually filled with discussions that greatly amused her. Remember last year's attack on Salazar Slytherin? Good times. "Morning, Professor!" Daisy greeted as she walked into the classroom with a slight spring in her step. It couldn't be helped, even if it wasn't exactly unconscious; Hogsmeade weekend was almost there, after all which meant buying candy and possibly snowball fights if it snowed during the night. But. Uhm. Why was everyone complaining about the cold? The corridor wasn't that cold, was it? Daisy didn't really feel it so she moved past the hot chocolate and the treats and towards the classroom. "Skylar." The sixth year looked at her fellow Slytherin and shook her head at the girl's question. Didn't she want to play Quidditch professionally too? "Coffee is terrible for you, you shouldn't drink it." Because she was a child, but Daisy didn't add that part, in case Skylar got offended. Instead, she waved enthusiastically at Derf and Abey, glad to see them together and in the company of a first year. Were all the Gryffindors sitting together, though? "Dora, why are you checking your eyesight just before class?" So weird, sooooo weird. Whatever. Let Levi and Bentley handle their housemate. She wiggled her fingers in the direction of her best friend and sent Bentley a smile because she was trying not to judge him and dislike him. Genuinely. Mainly because she was finally understood that he truly was unavoidable. Oh well. But Daisy was not going over there. Daisy was going to sit ... next to Lucy, yes! The girl still looked stressed but the Slytherin quickly made her way over and took a seat next to the Hufflepuff. "Lucy, how are you this morning?" She set her bag on the table and squinted at the Hufflepuff. "Have you had breakfast?" |
Kimi made his way into history of magic and smiled at the Professor and said "Good morning Professor Newton, hope you are well" Kimi didn't really know many people who were in the class but they all got a nod and Kimi sat and waited for class to start |
Cranky!Olivia *oops* Yawn. Sorry, Olivia was tired (and in a very, VERY cantankerous mood), so there wouldn't be any excited exclamations from her upon entering the History of Magic classroom today. Nope, the goal was to keep her head down and focus on the lesson; so she didn't snap at people and get herself into trouble. When you had parents who were so integral to the fabric of Hogwarts, it wasn't difficult to get nagged about every little thing. Liv was already ignoring her mother's correspondence. There was no need to give cause for the owls to turn into howlers. And Marilyn would. Disposition somewhat tempered by the warming charms placed about the classroom (it was COLD and DRAFTY in the corridors), the Gryffindor decided to pass on hot chocolate. GASP?! Yes, Olivia was passing up snacks. Alert the press. The consideration was always appreciated, truly, but she was kinda over all her Professors trying to feed her at this point. The blonde had pudge going on due to all the sweets, treats, and snack items in her lessons. Could it just stop being an option at some point? They needed healthier options. Good lord, who was she? Making a point to not notice anyone in particular (a general HELLO conveyed with forced smiles and some waving)... Liv seated herself near the front. There would be notes, and luckily for her, someone had remembered their Quick Quotes. Finally...."Good morning, Professor." The words were mostly monotone and lacked any real enthusiasm. There would be a lot of keeping her head down today. |
SPOILER!!: Leviii Dora didn't give a hippogriff's patoot what anyone thought of her aversion to food and drink offered by the professors. She didn't, however, STARVE. The house elves had never tampered with anyone's food before. Hmph. Besides she got care packages once a week from various family and family friends. The girl never did without. And she had also learnt that people would make their own decisions, so she didn't try to force anyone to follow her rules. BUT PEOPLE WITH RULES LIVED LONGER. Just saying. Once she was sure her eye wasn't twitching as much she took her hand away and smiled at Levi. "I'm fine. Yeah. Fine. And Pirate Day isn't until February. Don't be silly. " SILLY LEVI. "Just... a stress thing." And then her eyes traveled to his mug... and gave him a LOOK. "Pleasedon'tdrinkthat. But her last was said quickly and QUIETLY to the boy beside her before she turned her attention to... SPOILER!!: Mel Mel. She got a far more relaxed smile. For now. And a sense of pride swelled in her for a moment. "Thanks, Mel. I really appreciate that. I just hope I don't mess up and do something dumb. " Like lose. SPOILER!!: Jessa Merlin. This girl was jumpy. All Dora had done was block her path and tell her she was being rude. Sheesh. It could have been much worse. MUCH. An eyebrow was quirk as she watched the girl kind of... have a fit? Was she having a fit? Merlin! "Are you sure you're fine? You look like you're sweating. " Dora said this with a gentle tone so as not to spook the creature. Girl. She was a girl. Ravenclaws were an odd lot. She'd know since she was best friends with one and dating one. Only mildly abrasive. |
waves to everyone It was morning. It was chilly. So Noelle was in a chilly morning mood. Heading into the History of Magic classroom, her eyes focused on the hot chocolate and headed straight over there for a nice warm cup. She was probably drinking her calories this morning, but she hadn't had nothing to eat yet due to waking up late and missing her morning training session. Another thing to be meh about this morning. One sip from the hot chocolate though, gave her enough emotion for a smile. One that she shared with everyone she passed as she headed for a seat over to the side of the classroom. The warmth of the mug felt good against her fingers so everyone got tiny waves as well. Sitting next to Shay, she gave a tiny "Hey" Because that's all she could manage right now. At least until she finished this hot chocolate and got some energy. "'Morning Professor." She said loud enough as well. She lifted her mug without taking her hands off it and sipped it again. Normally she'd pull her things out for class at this moment, but she needed the pick me up first. |
SPOILER!!: Derf! Villaaaaiiiiiiiiin!!!!!!! YES! Abey was just returning Jessa's smile when Derf the Villain sat next to him, but THEN THAT GREETING(?) HAPPENED and Abey started in surprise, his eyes going all wide as he looked between Derf and the hot chocolate a few times. "But... it's warm, Derf," he replied, quietly but not whispering because it was very difficult to whine in a whisper, and Abey wasn't one to hold back. Even so, he ended up biting his lip after Derf told him... that. Uhhh... UHHHHHHH........ Torn. He was torn. Derf's advice, or lovely warm sweet HOT chocolate? ... Thing was, Abey trusted Derf (his BEST FRIEND) more than he trusted... Hogwarts people. For reasons that had become even more pronounced and important recently actually. "... Can I at least keep using it for my hands?" |
Mentions of the dorm pals. ^_^ History of Magic was a classroom that Felicity remembered every time, probably because she only had to climb one flight of stairs. British Wizarding History was different in some respects, but it still touched on many of the same things, events did crossover, so it was still managing to be a good subject for her, despite the differences. She sidled into the room after some other students, offering a small smile to the Professor, alongside a "Morning." Her smile widened as she turned and saw Skylar and Vivian, and she hurried to sit at a seat near them, before they got all occupied. "Hey," she said, softly to the other two girls. Of course, other people got smiles, but she didn't know other people that well. |
Kennedy had overslept that morning and didn't have the time to eat breakfast. It was terrible, no food and a full day of class. How was she supposed to exist? Food. Food. Food. That was all that she could think of as she dragged herself to her History of Magic class. History, oh what a bore. She'd rather be going to potions or herbology. Even astronomy would be better. However, her mind completely changed when she walked into the classroom. It was abnormally warm in there, definitely due to some magic. And even better. HOT CHOCOLATE. RICE CRISPIES. That made her life so much better. She grabbed some and immediately began to munch on the rice crispy bar. "thank you so much professor!" Kennedy said with a smile. "I really needed this today." She sipped on her hot chocolate and waited for the class to begin. |
luv 4 livvy [color=#7d0541]Rooney had quickly followed his girlfriend into the classroom, giving up two floors above in trying to catch up with her and ignite a conversation. She wasn't holding herself as strong as normal, so he just assumed that she was having one of those days where she needed time alone. He could deal with that. She dealt with him being a butt, too. Especially over the last few weeks and how annoying he had been with deciding what universities to apply to and filling out all of those applications. No one honestly understood how much stress that whole thing had been for him. Putting everything he wanted to say about himself into a set number of words had been impossible. Surely they needed to know about everything he had ever achieved and thought about himself and the relationships with people he held and the role models he had and the dreams he wanted to accomplish in a certain time and all of the feelings he had about absolutely everything in the universe. "Hi Professor Newton! How are you? Do you fancy a catch up later this week?" It wasn't a new thing. Rooney stopped by her office more than he did Hirsch some months and that was saying something. He just liked how he wasn't judged by her... He paused by the desks, ultimately deciding to sit in a different area to his lady love, but conjured up some flowers and set them beside her with a smile. "For you, love." |
Quote:
She grinned when the girl sat beside her. She nodded with a giggle. "Toast with fruit." That was breakfast. Even when not under stress, Lucy wasn't a big meal kind of person. |
Grasping the doorknob of the History of Magic classroom, Sophie attempted to twist it. Unfortunately, the bulky gloves on her hands were making it rather difficult to open the door. Sheshivered and ran her hands up and down her arms. "Brr," she moaned. "Why is it so cold today?" Her teeth chattered against each other, giving her proof that this wasn't just in her imagination. Trying one last time to turn the doorknob, she finally succeeded and the door flew open. "Yessss!!!!" She pumped her fist in the air as a flood of warmth enveloped her. "This feels so good! Maybe History of Magic won't be such a boring class today!" For the past several days, she had been dreading having to come back because she was usually bored out of her mind. The warmth today, however, might just make the suffering worth it, especially if she could sneakily fall asleep at the back of the room. |
Daisy and Felicity/Vivian Skylar turned around when the older Slytherin greeted her and addressed her and her coffee habits. "Daisy. I wasn't asking for me. It just should be an option. We're not children." Well maybe the first years still were, but she wasn't. "Have you seen how sleepy some of our classmates are in classes? I think the stimulant in coffee could help," and okay, maybe she was asking for her. But it wasn't really any of her fellow Slytherin's business what she drank. Oh there was Felicity and Vivian. Turning to them when they sat near her, she smiled grateful. "Hey," she said replied back, glad that they were able to get seats next to each other. |
Kitty walked into the history of magic classroom, as usual humming a Muggle song quietly under her breath. She stopped to smile and wave at her friends, smiling also at students who were not her friends just to be nice. This was one of the classes she liked the most (second only to Muggle Studies), though she had one very painful memory of the subject. "Good morning Professor," said Kitty as she gingerly took one of the cups of hot chocolate, being sure to thank the professor as she did so. Then she sat down and sipped delicately. |
Lucy and Skylar Since Daisy hadn't taken the hot chocolate or the treats on offer, she busied herself with removing her supplies and setting them on the desk in front of her. She raised her head as people filled the room, saying hello to those she knew and giving and kind of ignoring the ones she didn't know. She turned back to Lucy, finally, setting her school bag on the floor next to her feet, and smiled at her words.. "Toast and fruit. Could be better but you ate, at least." And now she was drinking hot chocolate which wasn't exactly food but -- well, it was something. "Oh, I've been meaning to ask, actually. Have you talked to Myers, yet?" And yes, she knew class was about to start but it hadn't started yet. So it was probably fine. She wasn't really used to sitting in the front row, so it was weird to hear someone address her from the back. Turning around, she rested one arm on the back of the chair and eyed younger Slytherin, a soft smile on her lips. Ah, to be that young. "We're not adults either. Our frontal lobe isn't even fully developed yet, as a friend of mine would say." She quickly glanced at her best friend and grinned; would say and did say, plenty of times. They were all children, as long as they were younger than 17. It was the law. She did, however, have a point about how sleepy some of their classmates were, but offering coffee at classes did seem a tad excessive. "I'm sure there are better ways to avoid that don't involve stimulants, but whatever floats your boat, I suppose!" Since Skylar, obviously, could do as she wanted and Daisy didn't care, not at all, she turned back around on her chair and shrugged at Lucy. Children. |
Sitting near Levi, Dora and Bentley Another day, another History of Magic class and Cassie was there and ready. And as she approached the classroom and felt the added warmth of the heating charms permeating the area, the fifth year was even more willing to be involved in the lesson. She enjoyed winter well enough and the weather of Scotland in general, but the chill of the old castle could get to you. “Good morning, Professor,” she greeted the woman waiting there by her desk. A desk that had steaming cups of hot chocolate waiting on it as well. “Thanks for the cocoa,” she added, taking a cup as she left the front of the room in search of a seat. Quite a few fellow students were already so Cassie was debating which direction to choose. Head over to Olivia who seemed to be in a not good mood…again. Join the group that seemed to center around the Gryffindors including Levi and Dora. Sit beside Kitty or hang by herself. “Hey guys…” she greeted as she made her decision and moved towards the sixth year lions. She was cool sitting here right? Not that it mattered really as she was already taking a seat behind Levi. |
Liiiiiv Katy was not wont to flounce into class, but there was a certain amount of stomping involved that made it obvious she wanted to be seen but not approached as she entered the room and looked for a likely seat. There were a few she wanted, a few she knew she'd regret... Sigh. It didn't have to be so hard all the time, did it? "It smells like breakfast in here, Professor." Katy softened enough to give the professor a polite nod and to stop glaring at people like she wanted them to combust on the spot. Katy slid into a seat near Miss Liv and carefully stowed her bag. "Hullo. Someone gave you flowers already today? You're a lucky girl." This was what best friends of Rooney did. Act impressed about all his fluttering. |
Rooney + Katy SPOILER!!: Rooney! .....Damn him. How did Rooney A. Bronwyn always know exactly what to do? Why was he so adorably ridiculous? She should've hated his stupid, handsome face. Hate, hate, HATE...but she didn't, of course. Nope, Olivia just loved him in super large amounts. ...And the flowers were so, SO beautiful. But then again, his magic was beautiful. Wondrous, even. She supposed that was due to his creative, artistic sensibility. Like Rosetta in the Tinker Bell films. Brain, remember to share that comparison with him later. If she knew her person, he'd be tickled with it. "Thank you." Though her mood was awful, Roo deserved to be thanked for the gorgeous flowers and all the effort he continuously put into their relationship. Out of all the good ones at Hogwarts, she was well aware that she had the best one. So, there you go. SPOILER!!: Katy! Well, at least Katy Toussaint looked just as unimpressed and irritated with life as Olivia currently felt. Terrible moods had a way of catching, though, didn't they? ...And again, though she was the epitome of cantankerous today, it wasn't Katy's fault. Since she'd complimented the flowers, the blonde found herself pulling one of the stems free from the bundle, offering it over to her. True, she and Katy rarely communicated, so Liv didn't know an awful lot about her, save for superficial things that everyone else probably knew (or assumed they knew). However, Katy was special to Rooney, so by association, that made her special to Olivia, too. "You know what a turd Bronwyn is." Her turd. |
History of Magic continued to be one of those classes that Althea didn't know if she liked or disliked. On the one hand, it was informational - in the same way all of the classes she took were informational - and on the other hand, it had a tendency to be boring. Still, she tried her best not to yawn too much - another sleepless night filled with excessive studying - as she walked into the classroom. The professor had drinks and treats waiting but she really wasn't in the mood to eat - which would have alarmed her, if she already didn't feel so tired and anxious. "Good Morning, Professor," she greeted as politely and with as much enthusiasm as she could muster. So many people had come to class already, she honestly didn't know where to sit. As she walked, looking for an empty seat, she stopped and stared at Levi (who, surprisingly, was sitting next to Bentley and that Dorinda girl,) then contemplated what she should do, before ultimately deciding on ignoring him. She gave this same sort of treatment to |
SPOILER!!: Individual Greetings Getting up from her desk, Rosalyn made her way to the doorway. After taking a peek out into the corridor to make sure that there weren't any any last minute arrivals. Pleased to not see any, she door. Anyone else who came in from now would suffer point loss; something that she hated doing, but was necessary anyway. That done, she made her way towards the front of the classroom and stood in front of the blackboard so that she could address the class. "Good morning, everyone." Hopefully everyone was feeling warmer and no one would be falling asleep on her. "There have been many people throughout history who have helped to make the wizarding world a better place. What are some ways that a person could help to make the world a better place?" She was really curious to hear what the class would come up with for this one. OOC: Class has officially started! At this point any new arrivals will suffer IC consequences, so it is best to pretend that you have been here the entire time. Next post will be in approximately 24 hours. :) |
The question...was met with a shrug. To be quite honest, Olivia never remembered her dreams anymore due to all the dreamless sleep potions her personal Healer had her on. And because they made her drowsy, she almost always slept the entire night through. No, she'd simply woken up today with a lot on her mind. So much that it was starting to cause some nasty headaches. A new development to add to her growing number of health issues. Stress really was a killer, wasn't it? BUT....as she'd told herself before walking into this classroom this morning, that she'd only be focusing on the subject matter and nothing else. The goal was to learn something today without all the usual excess Liv brought along with her. Keeping it simple and bare-bones for a day, if you will. Deep breath. Now...about ways to improve the world. Olivia did have ideas about this. But before she could properly answer, Professor Newton's wording had thrown her off. Did she mean how one might make the world AT LARGE a better place? Including with the muggles? To be safe, she resolved to give a two-part answer. "I wasn't sure if you meant to include the entire world in this theoretical question or JUST the magical side, but...to the latter, I think more sanctuaries for endangered magical creatures would be a smart move. I think we've become more conscious as a people about the importance of protecting our own magical environments and ecosystems." Which included protecting the creatures that made those places their home, right? "As for how we might help muggles, I think helping to purify their water supplies might be a good start." She'd read a brochure her mother had brought home over the summer concerning something called W.E.R.P.S. It was all about environmental protection. "Did you know that only 1 percent of the Earth's water is actually available to sustain people?" In her opinion, it was irresponsible for magical folk NOT to help out in the muggle world. IRRESPONSIBLE. |
Melbourne grinned over to Olivia when she walked into the classroom. She was after all very happy to be in Professor Newton’s class…maybe she could find out what happened to their former Head of House? Melbourne was a bit to bite into her treat when she heard Derf’s words…it was true maybe she would wait to eat her snacks until others had…reactions? |
a bit to Derf at the beginning, then lesson stuff ^_^ People had kept arriving, and that had only raised Stasya’s spirits even more, although she had stayed quiet all until Professor Newton had started the lesson. Everyone who had greeted her had gotten a smile, anyway, as she’d kept her hands curled around the cup of cocoa to keep them warm. Aside from a tiny wave back at Noelle, she wasn’t planning on moving her hands until she had to in order to take notes. Although, she’d been close enough to hear the things Derf had whispered to Abey, and that had made her lean over to whisper to him. “What about if the house elves made the cocoa?” It was an important question. She wanted to know if there was any food at the castle she could trust, but asking the professor didn’t seem like the right thing to do. Not when they were supposed to be answering the question that had been asked, and she had raised her hand nearly as soon as Liv had stopped talking. “I agree with Liv. Making the world better for creatures is just s important as making it better for people, and besides, maybe that would make it better for people too because then the creatures wouldn’t be scared that we were going to hurt them,” she said solemnly. Plus that stuff Mel had said about bees, but bees were creatures too. |
Acknowledging Sky & Felicity + lesson ^^ Vivian's day started to get better and better. She got to sit near her two roomies, Sky and Felicity. Both girls received finger wiggles and the famous Fairfield!grin. "Heyyyy, guys," the blonde greeted them two, and then turned her attention to the Professor. Her smile grew when she was allowed to grab a cup of hot chocolate. Yaaaaay! The fourth year bounced off her seat and proceeded to grab a cup for herself. "Thanks, Professor!" What a great way to start the morning right. Vivian went back to her seat, with her fingers carefully clasped around her drink as she breathed in the sweet aroma of chocolate. Aaahhhh, delish! She was loving today so far. Oh, time for the lesson. Vivian nodded as Professor Newton started off. When the question was finally asked, Vivian took a few seconds to think and... well, as always, she always spoke the first thing on her mind. The blonde raised her hand to answer. "Respecting human rights, Professor, as well as other creatures like goblins, centaurs, and house elves," she said with hand gestures and a nod after she spoke. Like what Miss Hermione Granger did during her fourth year... the S.P.E.W. thing. It was a brilliant idea, Vivian thought. |
The first year smiled as Abey sat down next to her. "Hi Abey!" She noticed he had gotten hot chocolate too, so did that mean it was okay to drink? Not that it was cool enough to try drinking yet; right now, Emmeline's hands were clasped around the cup to try to warm up further. Derf entered the classroom shortly after Abey did, and Emmeline gave him a quiet greeting too with a smile. Quiet because she thought the professor would start talking soon, and also, Derf's presence had reminded her about the secret hags on staff. She scrunched her face up as she looked closely at Professor Newton, but she couldn't see any warts on the professor's face. Could hags hide them somewhere else? She had turned in the boys' direction, about to ask Derf, when Stasya had whispered a better question. Emmeline just wouldn't drink the stuff until they'd come to a consensus. Now the professor was talking. Olivia immediately gave a great answer about creatures, which Emmeline wholeheartedly agreed with. Other people had good answers too, and of course Stasya's points coincided directly with the Gryffindor's thoughts on the subject. Hmmm. She thought Mel's idea about bees was good, and she could kind of spring board off of what everyone else had said about creatures. She didn't usually answer questions in history lessons, because it was NOT her best subject. She hoped her answer would be okay. Raising her hand, Emmeline smiled shyly up at the professor before giving her answer: "It's not just bees and creatures in general that need protection, but there are other endangered ones too. And some that get all crowded in certain areas, like dragons, because they need bigger and better sanctuaries to be really happy." The dragon thing was in one of the library books Emmeline had recently checked out, so she thought it was still correct. Anyway, dragons had HUUGE wing spans so she figured their sanctuaries should always be bigger so they could have as many babies as they wanted and all of the species could thrive. "Bigger sanctuaries would help make sure that all of the dragon species could have decent numbers, by having more babies." Baby dragons were important too. |
Much like Olivia, Jessa wasn't sure whether the Professor meant the world itself which included the magical and the muggles or if she just meant their world as they knew it with magic and all....or if she meant the muggle world. It could have been any of those which made it just a little harder for Jessa to focus on an answer. She could always do what some of them had done, give an example for each.... Yeah, that would cover the question regardless of which the Professor was actually hinting at. This meant she'd have to consider it from both ends. "I can agree on the increase in creature sanctuaries, Professor. It'd help with the statute but it'd also make sure we don't lose our own creatures to muggle curiosity or fear." Whichever happened first. "With the muggles, I think we could help them with their research. Maybe help them make greater discoveries that can help them with health or whatever other areas they may need the help." If they would even accept the help....and if they could actually find a way of helping without breaching the statute. It was always such a thin line. |
Daisy mention :P Daisy did offer a compelling argument, given that they weren't technically adults by wizarding law. However, she didn't buy the frontal lobe thing. They weren't exactly children either, but adolescents. Which meant their brains were more developed (and sleepy) then the older Snake was giving them credit for. Besides, Professor Newton didn't seem to object to the coffee suggestion, to which Skylar had to shoot a gloating look over at Daisy. Professor Newton was, though young, an adult, which meant she would know about this coffee thing and if she didn't object to offering coffee to those who wanted, then obviously it was false rumor. And lesson was starting. How could they make the world a better place? Start by not spreading fake rumors. Raising her hand, because it was a fantastic suggestion, Skylar spoke, "Not spread lies or rumors. Because lies hurt people and feelings. And it leads to hard feelings." |
He returned the wave to Levi and Stasya but still focusing on the cocoa and food. Because yummy. And now classes were starting. What else can they do to make the world a better place? The Curly Top had to wonder where the Professor was going with this. So may things can be said in answer to that question, and hearing his classmates he guessed right. Is there anything else he can say? "Well we can work on being a little bit more generous and a lot less greedy." he replied upon raising his hand. "Part of the reason why theres this seeming scarcity of resources isnt just because its being mishandled or abused, but also greedy people just claim everything for themselves for the sake of saying its theirs. So whatever paltry resource is left for everybody else and they struggle over that. And then all the bad behaviors arise due to that struggle. Its a vicious cycle." |
With a grin, Rooney retreated back to sit on the other side of the room, glad to have at least got a positive reaction from his girlfriend. Plus, he was happy to see two of his favourite females sitting together and getting on. Wasn't that what every guy wanted? His best friend and his love to get on without any of that jealousy drama? There wasn't any jealousy there, right? He didn't want to have to deal with that on top of his exams, and he supposed that neither did either of them. Whatever, they were sat together and there wasn't any scrapping. They...weren't going to discuss his kissing techniques...were they...? Did girls do that?! Slightly panicked as their class got started, Rooney only half listened to the question given to them by their Professor before putting his hand into the air. "Paying the kindness forward, Professor." That was something good, yes? His brain was still with the horrible thought of him being a discussion point. |
We didn't see Daisy before... SORRY! Just as DOra was about to answer both Daisy and Mel the class started. Cassandra did get a wave, though. Offering a LOOK to Daisy and a smile to Melbourne she shrugged apologetically and turned to listen to the Professor. Well... there were a LOT of ways to make the world a better place. For starters, some people could use a total attitude and personality adjustment... some of those people were actually in this very room... but the Gryffindor dared not voice such a thing because it was not very helpful, was it? Thinking about the question she listened to some of her classmates answers and frowned. So profound. Much wow. Raising her hand she chewed her lip before beginning to speak. "Well if we are referring solely to the Wizarding world... well this actually help the Muggle world too. In its own way. If we could eradicate the prejudices of blood status and such it would help us greatly. Bring a sense of peace to our world. But the same could be said for certain things in the Muggle world, as well. Doing away with antiquated ways of thinking and what not." Yeah. That was all she needed to say, really. And for the record: Dora didn't need a Ravenclaw to help her do anything. She had a brain full of knowledge without leaning on her boyfie or her bestie. |
As the class started, Althea fished around in her bag to pull out her supplies for class. She hoped that they wouldn't be taking too many notes - her hand was still sore from writing so much yesterday - but was prepared, nonetheless, if the professor had felt particularly verbose today. The question she posed as somewhat interesting, not at all as stimulating as it could've been. Since the professor left the question open-ended, Althea thought for a while about how someone could make the world a better place. She thought about the question for a few minutes, until a concrete idea came to her. Althea quickly raised her hand to offer her opinion. "If we're only focusing on the wizarding world, then we also need to reevaluate how wizards treat and view those categorized as 'Beasts'. We pretend that we see them as equals, but that is not the case at all. Preaching about peace and tolerance isn't enough, we have to critically evaluate our own social history and learn from our mistakes." This was particularly concerning topic for her, as she also did not understand how anyone could continue to have house-elves under their employment in 2092. It was ridiculous. |
Kimi listened to the professor's question and raised his hand and said "We need to make sure we look out for one another and if we have done wrong then we have to work hard to make those wrongs right again" Kimi wasn't sure if it was correct but it sounded like it was along the right lines |
Liv Katy happily accepted the flower and tucked it over her ear. It was good luck to accept flowers from people in love, right? Was that real or had she just made it up? "Thank you. And he is quite the poop, but he's your poop. Lucky." There was a match for everyone, in theory, and Liv had herself a living embodiment of the romantic gesture. There were worse things, Katy supposed. The professor began speaking about making the word a better place. Idealists. Katy didn't spend much time worrying about making the world in general better. She preferred attacking one problem at a time. Identifying the issue, working through the options, thinking outside the box for different resolutions... so okay. Perhaps she was an idealist too. "Curiosity, Professor, and invention. We make the world better by asking questions and seeking solutions. It's made us healthier, by inventing medicines or indoor plumbing, and it makes us happier by inventing toasters and roller skates. Among so many other things." |
Taking another sip from the steaming mug of hot chocolate, Sophie grinned. What a great way to start class, she thought, already interested by the lesson. She was so interested, in fact, that she was willing to lift her arm into the air and share her thoughts. "I think that people can make the world a better place simply by being themselves. It is so refreshing to come across people who aren't afraid to show their true personality instead of the personality that is considered 'popular' or 'the norm'. On the flip side, I hate out when people are afraid to share who they truly are. It makes me feel uncomfortable being around them if they aren't comfortable with who they are." Her remarks finished, Sophie dropped her hand back to rest on her desk. She lowered her eyes and stared at the wooden desktop, waiting for somebody else to answer. Gosh, she hated being the center of attention for anything! |
Lucy opened her mouth to answer Daisy...only to be cut short by Professor Newton starting class. So she just grinned and nodded at her friend. She'll go into the details after class, maybe? She took another sip of her hot chocolate while Professor Newton asked her question. ...That was quite objective, wasn't it? What was "better"? How better? Significantly? Minutely? And, as her classmates pointed out, which world? "Contribution," she ventured to contribute, "Putting something into the world. Leaving something behind. An invention," as Katy said, "Or even just an idea." Basically, leaving an influence upon someone made the world better. |
Shay smiled as her housemate came and sat down beside her. "Hey Noelle", she replied to the Gryffindor prefect. Their greetings were brief because the last student had entered the classroom. The professor didn't waste any time getting to the first question of the day and it was a doozy. What could we do to make the world a better place? Wow. That was the $64,000 question. Where could she even begin? Shay decided to take a moment to think the question through. In the meantime, she listened as her classmates gave their thoughts.......all good, they were. Finally, Shay raised her hand. She wasn't sure her answer was the best or most important, but it's what she came up with in a pinch. "Well, one thing that we can do to make the world a better place is to take care of the environment. You know, plant trees, don't pollute, things like that. In the muggle world there is recycling. We need to make sure that the earth is still livable for us and for future generations. |
couple o mentions in here yes :3 Derf dared a glance over at Professor Newton and had a feeling of unrest EATING at his stomach. WHAT IF...WHAAAAAAAT IF...SHE COULD READ MINDS?! Legilimens??? She was giving he and Abey LOOKS right now that were MAKING HIM NERVOUS. "O-Okay," he stammered to his best friend. "If will help it s-s-seem like you're acting natural. Not rais-s-se s-s-suspicions." Suspicions that he was onto something BIG. He was going to need to get his poster making supplies out again soon and warn everyone. The Ilvermorny students needed to be warned about these things too, you know? "House elf food is-s okay," he nodded to Stasya. He was eating his three square meals a day in the Great Hall just fine so far, you know? As class began and the Hufflepuff settled into his seat, he found himself appreciative again of the way Professor Newton often started things off. The vague theoretical questions always gave his imagination LOADS to come up and work with, but right now he was ruffling his hair wondering if he should answer this in terms of just looking at the present and forward ooooooooooor if he should draw on the past and THEN talk. His classmates SEEMED to be a mixed bag of answers - LIKE BERTIE BOTTS! - so it put his overactive imagination at ease. He wasn't so sure about a lot of the environmental talk to be honest...but he DID see the implications a lot of it would have on creatures so he soon found himself 'hmm hmm'-ing and nodding his head along. He was entirely on board for the idea of an increase in creature sanctuaries, so he was GRINNING at his classmates who were talking about that. Uuuuuuuuh....he was feeling some kind of way about Skylar's answer and quickly turned his face away back to his parchment, ears slightly reddened, and started doodling a picture of Picketta in the corner. Basic bowtruckle sketches were really easy to doodle, you know? Especially he was already a pro at stick figures. He had just finished drawing Picketta's leafy "pigtails" when he herd what Rooney speak and oooooooh yes...that was nice. So he quickly added a little speech bubble so Picketta was now saying "Pay it forward!" Perfect. Glancing up from his work, the Hufflepuff's eyes fell on Althea as she spoke about inequality among those classified as Beasts and he swore he could feel his pupils turning all heart shaped. WoooOOOoooOOOooooW. The general consensus of contribution was also met with eager nodding from the Hufflepuff - although he also found that answer a bit obvious. Nothing improved without contributing something, you know? Thinking a moment if he had anything of any REAL significance to share - he wanted to share something SPECIFIC - which naturally meant he drew from his idol and raised his hand. "Loads-s-s of people in his-s-tory left an impact becaus-s-se they taught us-s-s s-s-something. Like...expos-s-sing things-s wrong and kept s-s-secret that ought not...OR..." His eyes lit up and his voice began to quicken. "...going out into the world and doing all kinds-s of res-search and S-STUFF to write guides-s and things-s for us to us-s-se to better understand the world we live in. LIKE what Newt Scamander did with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Making a guide to help people [i]understand why we should be protecting creatures instead of killing them." WHICH played into what his friends and classmates were saying about the need for creature sanctuaries and protecting certain species and YES. "Basically...being well informed about things-s. Imperfect unders-standing is-s often more dangerous than ignorance," he quoted for extra effect. |
Etta agreed with what most of her classmates mentioned. Protecting creatures, making sure they had a safe environment and the perfect living conditions was very important. And to make that happen, protecting the nature was absolutely essential. She noted down all of this quickly but feeling a little thoughtful. She finally raised a hand to answer the professor's question. "I don't think I have anything more to add to what others have already said, professor. I do think knowledge and awareness is very important. People should be more aware of all the pressing issues, problems that the world is facing.. however big or small.. be it magical or muggle.. and try to understand them. They could also help come up with a solution and contribute to the society in their own way. It maybe be small but it would still matter. Each person's contribution would matter. The thing is.. they should want to do it. They should want to take an intiative. It may not be very practical but it's still a thought." |
SPOILER!!: Individual Replies As students contributed, Rosalyn took each suggestion and wrote it down on the board: Quote:
"I would like for you to tell me who you think has made the best contribution to the wizarding world. You can list more than one person if you want to. I just want to know who it is and a bit about what they have done to improve the wizarding world." OOC: Great job, everyone! I think I got everyone, but if I missed anything I am very sorry! I will be moving things forward again in approximately 24 hours. :) |
The question had hardly slipped out of Professor Newton's mouth when the Hufflepuff's hand went SHOOTING up into the air. "Newton Artemis Fido "Newt" Scamander!" And since he had kind of sort of already said WHAT it was the magizoologist had done with his previous answer that had just received praise...Derf wasn't sure if he should repeat himself or not. "...for revolutionizing the way we think and view and understand and know magical creatures-s! And load-s-s of other things-s...the Ban on Experimental Breeding... or or or hi-s-s involvement with Grindelwald and how he was-s-s the FIRST wizard to ever capture him!" |
........... ................................. .................................................. ..... Luckily, Olivia hadn't been startled out of her seat this time, as she had been in Muggle Studies by her illustrious fiance, but....GEEZUS, DERFAEL. OKAY, OKAY, OKAY..... Excitable Hufflepuff, OKAY! ..... Rattled, and properly distracted from whatever Katy Toussaint had been saying, the blonde took several moments before attempting to throw out her own answer. Tough act to follow, that was. Yeah, so... Liv thought she might say Albus Dumbledore, considering all the good deeds he'd done, not to mention the countless magical contributions he'd made to their world, but.... Well, history surrounding Dumbledore often made her angry. True, he'd done so much good, but at what cost? In her eyes, history didn't favor him. So, because she was in an especially spiteful mood, she wasn't going to say him. Hmph. Someone else would, anyway. People couldn't help themselves. H M P H. "Bob, Bill, and Barnaby Ollerton...who invented racing brooms, I think." It wasn't as profound an answer as the other one she'd given, but it was still true, right? "Brooms might not have an adverse effect on social economy, animal rights, the protection of our race...but they bring joy to the magical population. And also bring nations together, since they are a key factor in playing the game of Quidditch." Obviously... "and that bleeds into quidditch, which was brought about by several different witches and wizards over a long period of time." Some kids were playing it at first, right? Like, they'd made their own game up and Gertie Keddle had bared witness to the strangeness of it; having written about it a journal, because that's what some people do; her included. "The various leagues, championships, and things of that nature allow other magical nations to come together and enjoy the game." There was a long, long pause.... "I suppose that does have an effect on social economy. It helps us to grow, even though it's just a game." Huh. That was...what, two inventions? She'd wanted to add the bit about snidgets being replaced with golden snitches, but was starting to feel dumb in talking so much. Guh, Olivia loathed long-winded people, and here she was...having become one herself. Lolz. |
Okay, so house elf-made food was okay to eat. Stasya felt a little bit better when Derf had whispered that detail back to her, since at least it meant she wasn’t going to have to starve to follow his rules. She hadn’t really seen a reason not to follow them, given the stories he’d told her before and the others she had found out about on her own. But then she also wasn’t about to give up the warmth of the cup of cocoa that had started the whole dilemma, so she was either going to have to pretend it was elf-made or just sit there holding it for the rest of class. She wasn’t giving it up, and she wasn’t going to stop paying attention to the lesson either. Especially since Professor Newton had said she’d made a good point. That made her happy, and she’d moved one hand away from her cup long enough to scribble down the list that had been written on the board, adding a few little creature doodles before she was startled by the loud, excited exclamation from nearby. Of course it was Derf, and of course he’d mentioned Newt Scamander. She just hadn’t expected the name to be mentioned quite so loud so close to her ear, but she’d scribbled that down in her notes too even as she listened to Liv give another answer. Including a lot of stuff, but she guessed it made sense with the question they’d been asked. She just wanted to go in a different direction. Maybe sort of close to Derf’s, but not. Raising her hand, she spoke. “Hermione Granger. She campaigned for house elf rights while she was in school, and then she worked for the Ministry to actually really try to help them and other creatures who were not really treated right by wizards. And also she tried to end pro-pureblood laws too, which helped people.” Just in case the professor wanted a specific explanation and stuff that wasn’t just creature-related. |
Woah. Etta almost jumped out of seat in surprise. Derf seemed to get way too excited when it came to Newt Scamander, didn't he? She grinned and shook her head before trying to come up with an answer. Who WERE the influential people who had made a difference in the wizarding world? She thought about the few people she knew about, including Hermione Granger but Stasya had already mentioned her so someone else. "Professor.. the founders of this establishment. The founding of Hogwarts has changed the wizarding world completely, hasn't it? This school is one of the best wizarding schools there is and has been training students over the decades to achieve what they have achieved later on in their careers. It has produced people like Hermione Granger, after all. I'm not saying there haven't been problems here..." .. which she didn't want to get into. ".. but.. overall, I think it has made a difference." Short and sweet, wasn't it? Etta looked down at her parchment for a moment before jotting down a few more notes. It seemed like this was going to be an interesting lesson. She looked up once again and listened to others give their answers. |
Vivian was very interested with this lesson. Usually, history class wasn't a big deal for her because they were all based on facts, and memorization was not this blonde's forte. She was quite glad this lesson wasn't going to be like that, and it was bonus points that it caught her attention. And when Professor Newton thought her answer to the first question was "very good", it made the Slytherin beam. She was liking this class even more. Yes, indeed. Oh, and onto the next question. This was quite easy though, and immediately Vivian raised her hand for her turn to participate. "I believe all the people who sacrificed their lives and fought for our school during the Battle of Hogwarts, like Remus Lupin and Nymphadora Tonks, almost a century ago have made one of the greatest contributions for the magical world today," the fourth year said and then nodded. "We wouldn't be here today enjoying quality education if it weren't for them. May they all rest in peace." And Vivian was really thankful for that. Otherwise... where would she have gone to school? :whaa: |
Okay, so... so... so it was okay to keep using the drink as a hand warmer. And to ACT NATURAL. And luckily, Abey was a PRO AT ACTING (sort of) (a bit) (actually). Anyway, Abey nodded to Derf, agreeing that he would not drink the hot chocolate (siiiiIIIIIIGGGHHHHH), then turned to the professor as she started the lesson. Uh... huh. Okay, so... Abey supposed that question was sort of supposed to be an easy one, and it was definitely something he could answer without having to read the textbook first. But NOW he was having the complete opposite problem; there wasn't really a specific answer, just a LOT of maybe answers. Like... a LOT. The only thing Abey could think of was for people to be kind to each other and help each other, but also to challenge each other and then everyone could spur on everyone else and then everyone could achieve really actually mega great things and then things would be really good. But he had trouble finding the right words for what he wanted to say, so he had simply kept quiet. The next question was much, much easier for Abey. There were a BUNCH of solid answers and, as he had grown up magic he already knew a bunch of things to say that didn't require book knowledge. Of course, because he could say anything, Derf's voice was VERY LOUD AND VERY SUDDEN AND VERY EVERYTHING, and Abey gave a startled, strangled yelp, starting in his surprise and nearly knowing over the cup of hot chocolate. His heart was going WHAM WHAM WHAM WHAM WHAM, but Abey did, at least, know that it really was just Derf being Derf. Whew. Okay. So. As Abey's heart rate went back to normal, he threw in his own contribution to the class discussion. "Harry Potter did that whole thing that he did," he offered, still warming his hands over the hot chocolate. And also... "And also, my great-grandfather, Abraham Botros - not my grandfather who taught here, although he was an Abraham too, but actually his father - he helped hide Muggle-born wizards in that whole war that Harry Potter was involved in. Which probably helped improve the wizarding world because those Muggle-borns might have had kids who had kids who went on to invent things or help other people, and their kids might do the same in the future." Abey... wasn't actually very enthusiastic with his answer. Actually, he was a little subdued with it because thinking about Jaddi still made him sad, and also thinking about that whole war was sad too, now that he was a little older and understood things a little more. |
Kimi listened to what his fellow students were saying and thought and raised his hand and said "Damocles because he was the creator of the wolfsbane potion" Kimi had to think hard on that one and it was one that nobody had mentioned yet so he was pretty pleased with himself |
This question sounded an awful lot like the question on his History of Magic OWL exam, not that Rooney minded. And Rooney remembered clearly how he had struggled to make this decision in that very exam. So this time, he was going to use someone that he had put into a close second for that essay, but ultimately lost out to Orabella Nuttley. Hand up as he waited his turn, nodding along with the opinions of others but judging just a few of them, Rooney smiled at Professor Newton. "Dorcas Wellbeloved, ma'am. She founded the Society of Distressed Witches and really isn't given enough credit for how many witches that group has helped over the years." His mother included, but that wasn't the point he was wanting to bring up in front of the rest of his peers that definitely had no idea about his birth father. "The Society of Distressed Witches helps witches living in poverty, needing advice or just a friend. It''s fundamental kindness, which we shouldn't have to create groups for it to happen, but that seems to be the world we live in now." |
Yes, very insightful indeed. Skylar was actually proud of that answer because it was different and unique from the direction everyone else was going with the question. And they were talking now about witches and wizards who had made significant contributions to the wizarding world. Or no, wait, the question wasn't specifically significant but rather the best contribution. Which, in Skylar's humble opinion was a very subjective and loaded question. There were soooo many great contributions and really that was such a broad question, because well, best at what? Creatures? Quidditch founding? Charms? The number seven? She needed the categories narrowed down, because the question was way too broad. Listening to her peers speak, Skylar tried her best to think of someone related to perhaps History. And then she had it; the person who taught her parents. "Anjelica Lainey, former History of Magic Professor at Hogwarts, changed the way History of Magic was taught by integrating unique storytelling to make the subject more interesting and appealing." Hey, there was no timeframe on the contributions, so why couldn't it be someone from this century? |
See, it was definitely things like these that made it difficult for her to appreciate History of Magic. All these discussions about past things and past people. Most of this stuff either came from prior knowledge or prior reading. Contrary to popular stereotype, Jessa didn't enjoy scouring through her textbooks for general information. All reading served a purpose for her. Each book was a means to another end. Being able to know the answers during her History of Magic class wasn't exactly motivation enough for her to dive that deep into history. What started out as her scribbling down the answers her classmates had given, slowly but steadily turned into the young girl doodling along her piece of parchment. Little dragons breathing fire, a couple stars here, a bunny with a carrot. Her imagination took her places far far away from the History of Magic classroom until the voices that seemed faint and resembling background noise disappeared altogether. She wasn't in the classroom anymore, she was back in her dorm checking in on her potion. That was when the doodles turned into cauldrons and little potions ingredients. There was nothing to be done for her concentration. The eyes that occasionally glanced up in a gesture of paying attention now remained firmly planted on her parchment. Her shoulders slumped and her breathing slowed to a more restful pace. By all indication, Jessa Cambridge had checked out of the lesson, having very little in the way of stimulus to keep her attention. Even the hot chocolate that sat by her hand seemed to be forgotten. |
Sophie listened quietly to the ideas of her classmates. They all had such great comments and she could honestly see the validity of each of their points. But she had something to share as well, and nothing was going to stop her this time. Raising her hand, she took a deep breath. "I think that I have the potential to be the one to make the best contribution to the wizarding world. Not just me, either. All of this in this room, in this school, each of us could make the difference for the future. Until then, all of us are making our own contributions, however small, to the history of magic." Finished with her answer, Sophie settled back into her chair. Wait, she realized with a sudden thought, Was that even close to what the professor was asking? |
Shay copied notes from the board. A summary of everyone's responses was now written on her parchment.and now the second question of the day came along. This one may have even been more difficult to answer than the first one. The professor really wanted to challenge them today. There was no easy answer and no right or wrong really. Shay thought and thought. She couldn't narrow it down to just one best contribution. Then, she thought of something......someone. It was a little outside the box. Well really, it was way, way outside the box. Shay raised her hand, to give her answer. "Someone who made a great contribution to the wizarding world was Garrick Ollivander. He was known as possibly the best wandmaker there was. So many witches and wizards got their wands from Ollivanders. His wands were thought to be a level above all others. Without his superior wandmaking, many witches and wizards ability to perform magic could have been negatively affected.. Maybe not the greatest contribution, but a very important one. |
Hmm. Katy drew triangles and circles across the top of her parchment as she considered who had contributed significantly to history. There wasn't really a best invention. There were all sorts of ways to contribute. How did she pick medicine over art over politics? Simply stated... she couldn't. So she'd just go with one of her favorites. Katy raised her hand. "Damocles, Professor. He invented Wolfsbane Potion, which alleviated the effects of lycanthropy. Essentially, it allows those who are infected as werewolves to be part of society without fear of being ostracized or excluded. It was a remarkable medical discovery." |
Kitty felt proud of the answers several of her fellow classmates were providing. Jessa had mentioned helping Muggles with research and discoveries. She eyed her curiously. Might she be recruitable to her cause? Hmmmm... So caught up was she in observing her classmates answers that she didn't have time to answer the first question. Really, Professor Newton couldn't fault her, because it wasn't like she wasn't paying attention to the class. Etta's answer (the founders) almost - almost compelled her to answer, "Well, not ALL of them. Salathar Slytherin was a bigot who hated Muggleborns and half-bloods and would have killed half this school." But that would have been a repeat of the terrible fight she'd had just last year in this very classroom, and she was by no means eager to repeat it right now. She still hated Salathar as strongly as she did back then, but now was not the time to say so. With great effort she kept her mouth shut and waited until there was an opening to raise her hand. "May I answer the first question too? I like what Jessa said about helping Muggles with research. It's the most COMPASSIONATE thing we as witches and wizards could be doing. Think of all the lives we could save if the Statute was repealed tonight, and we could go into all the hospitals and cure people. Of course our magic has limits, but we could certainly save a lot of lives. Unfortunately, if someone were to do this today, the Ministry would arrest them." Pause for dramatic affect. "As to your second question, I believe Albus Dumbledore has done the most for wizardkind. In his youth he defeated Grindleward, one of history's most feared dark wizards. Many years later he provided Harry Potter with the tools he needed to kill Lord Voldemort." |
Althea stretched her fingers out before taking her time to copy down the notes from the board. Normally, she would pick and choose which pieces of information she thought were relevant, but with all her anxiety over OWLs she chose to write down everything whenever she went to class. That way she could cover her bases and make sure that she didn't miss anything. She didn't want to assume what they would or wouldn't test her on, so she would write and write until her hand cramped and would write some more. When she was done, she listened quietly to the answers being given. There were so many wizards to choose from, so she thought for a moment before raising her hand. "Gaspard Shingleton," she figured he was relevant enough to add to their discussion, "inventor of the Self-Stirring Cauldron. A handy and innovative invention that has certainly helped modernize potion brewing." She thought so, anyway. There were a lot of things that were archaic about the way wizards - at least in their part of the world - used magic. She always wondered when they would finally propel themselves into the future and leave tradition behind. |
As she heard what her fellow students suggested as well as watching the professor add anything she might not have caught, Cassie jotted the ideas down in her own notes. She didn’t know if they would be useful to her at any point but there was no harm in including them. That was why Professor Newton was making them front and center on the board…right? The Ravenclaw had just finished adding the last when the woman moved them on, asking another question to get them thinking. A witch or wizard with the best contribution? That could be a tough one. Who could she possibly pick? There was Scamander being mentioned…and Hermione Granger. The broom designers that Cass didn’t catch their names on. And of course the Founders of Hogwarts. Harry Potter and the group that fought the Battle of Hogwarts came next among other assorted witches and wizards. Cassie bit the inside of her lip as she tried to choose one to give herself. “Alexander Greingoth…” she finally answered after raising her hand. “Ministry official that helped revolt and save the British Wizarding World from some shady characters.” As per her dad. He might have toned it down for her. |

She lowered the quill she'd been doodling with, her expression unreadable but her words firm. "No, that's a terrible idea. Repealing the statute won't suddenly change the way some of them think of us. It won't make them warm and friendly, it won't make them grateful." Why would anyone even suggest that? The idea alone had her losing a bit of the colour in her face. As best she could, the young girl tried to remain calm, figuring Kitty had only ever seen one side to muggles. In such a case, you could hardly blame one for their ignorance. "History is enough reason to keep the statute in place. How eager are you to be exploited or destroyed because of a lack of understanding and acceptance?" She took a deep breath, willing herself to drop it entirely. "Sorry Professor, I didn't mean to interrupt." Helping them was one thing, blowing the secret and leaving themselves exposed was another thing entirely and she was NOT up for that. Jessa shook her head, trying to remove the thought completely before returning to her doodles. This was simply not something she'd like to have discussed. |
There was stuff written on the board, and Emmeline had no idea why. Her mind had wandered out to the nursery, where she hoped the babies were all okay. She would rush down there (in a cloak this time) as soon as lessons finished; in the mean time, she was going to keep a tight hold on her cup of hot chocolate. Except that there was that stuff on the board. Sighing heavily but almost silently, Emmeline dove down for her bag and extracted her history notebook, spare parchment, some ink, and a quill. She flipped her notebook open to a fresh page and hastily scrawled down what was written on the board. By the time she had finished doing that, the professor had asked a new question. Emmeline thought there were only two obvious answers to who had made the best contribution to the magical world: Newt Scamander and Hermione Granger. But Derf and Stasya were quick to mention both of those; she grinned at them, thinking that creature lovers all thought alike. Still, she was trying this new thing where she'd pay attention -- sort of -- and answer questions and such. This meant she had to answer the professor's question. Her classmates had given other good answers, of course, and as Emmeline tried to think of someone they hadn't mentioned, she had returned to her habit of doodling creatures on the margins of her notes. It wasn't until she realized that she had doodled a picture of her snowy owl, Minerva, that an answer came to her. Raising her hand, Emmeline answered: "Minerva McGonagall made a big difference for the wizarding world. She was a big deal during the wars, and then she was headmistress here." The first year said that last bit like it was obvious that any headmaster of Hogwarts had made a great impact on the wizarding world just by heading up the school. |
SPOILER!!: Individual Replies More great answers were coming her way, and Rosalyn added them all to the blackboard as they were shared: Quote:
but she would see soon enough. "I would like to try out silent acting today. So everyone taking turns acting out a scene without speaking during it." Sounded like a fun idea to her! "There are a number of people on the board, and I would like for you all to choose one of them and play out a scene with them. For instance you can be Damocles and silently act out working on creating wolfsbane potion, or Hermione Granger working on badges for SPEW. If you want to work with other people, you are more than welcome to do so. You could be Dumbledore facing Grindewald in a show down, or Dorcas Wellbeloved offering comfort to a woman in need of support." Hopefully they were all following along. "Of course if you would prefer to do someone who ISN'T on the board, you are more than welcome to do so!" There were a lot of people who had done something helpful. "To make things easier for us, before you begin acting out the scene, you can provide an explanation of who you are pretending to be and what you are playing out." That way people didn't get confused. "Don't worry if someone else does the person you want to; it's perfectly fine if someone is done more than once." "Once you are done performing, I would like for you each to write a few sentences on what you will do - if anything - to help contribute to the wizarding world in the upcoming year. It can be something like donating to charity or going out of your way to help other students. Whatever you feel you would want to do to help." With that out of the way, it was time for them to begin! OOC: Thanks for all the wonderful contributions everyone! Time to move on to the activity. For this there is NO post requirement, and you can all pretend that it's your turn to go when you're ready to perform. As Rosalyn said, this activity is for SILENT acting. For this part you just need to work out who you want to pretend to be and decide what you want to have them do. This can be done either independently or with a partner/small group. Then say a few words on what you are going to act out and play out the scene. Once you are done the main activity, your character can go back to their desks and write a few sentences on what they feel they could do to help make the world a better place in the upcoming year. If at any point you or your character need help, we are more than happy to do so. Either mention her in a post (make sure to add her to the title), or ask me through Skype/PM/VM. You have until 11:59 pm EST on May 31st to get this completed. |
Melbourne’s eyes toward Professor Newton and smiled at her as she mention that bees were a worthy thing to save. Her eyes then flicked over toward Kitty Valentine when Etta brought up the founders…this, answers like this seemed to be asking Kitty to snap. |
the Silent Acting part..... He angled his head with a slight crease on his brow, not quite sure if he understood what the Professor's activity was supposed to be about. Were they supposed to act out a historical character? What like charades minus the guessing? Well at least thats how he understood it. Well as with any acting venture worth the effort, he needed PROPS. So he took out several parchments and started scrunchy-rolling them out, then connecting one end to the other, so now he ended up with what looked like a very lengthy paper-rope. On one end of this he fashioned more paper scrunching so it would look like a reptile's head. Then he painted the whole thing in a dark green color. Now he's ready. He got up and laid his paper-rope prop on the ground, then engorgio'd it so that it was now several feet long and was as thick as his leg. He faced his classmates and cleared his throat "So uhm.... I'm gonna act out a historical hero that isnt on the board. And uhm-- oh wait just a sec--" he accio'd his HERBOLOGY book too and comically plopped it on the Professor's table for all to see "-- just so to avoid confusion." he grinned. And now for his silent acting. Since his wand is so keen on non-verbals he just thought of the levitation spell and subtly cast it on one end of his big paper-rope prop. It rose up, like a giant snake from history. Another silent fixate spell made the serpentine paper-prop hover menacingly in the air. The Gryffindor Ace walked forward, holding his wand as if he was wielding a broadsword and with a silent severing charm, sliced the giant snake's head clean right off, sending it flying across the room. He turned to his audience, smiled cheekily, and took a bow. He didnt say who it was, but the have got to know who that is right? |
Kitty mentions Katy was only half listening to her classmates, since the professor was tracking answers on the board, but she jolted up right when she heard a familiar voice stating a familiar, ugly opinion. When was that Kitty going to get it through her head that she was being an ugly bigot and it was unbecoming to her position as a prefect?? Katy was gonna have to write an angry letter to the Headmistress pretty soon. She managed to bite her tongue this time, but only because she didn't want to get in trouble. Somehow, last term she'd managed to avoid getting detention when she'd stood up to Kitty on this very topic, but it was unlikely her good luck would hold. She'd just behave and act out her hero from the list. "Neville Longbottom!" She pointed at Ace, who had gone first, and then bounced to her feet to go next. "I'm just going to act out the effects of my person's contribution to society, rather than the person his or herself." It shouldn't be too hard to figure out. Katy made claws with her hands and snarled silently, pantomiming a wild beast on the prowl. After a few moments of this, she pretended to sip from a bottle. The transformation from snarling beast to befuddled creature was probably a bit drawn out, but no one had ever denied that Katy wasn't a drama queen at times. She yawned and stretched before collapsing to her knees, then to a huddled mass on the floor. She fell asleep. For a moment. Then she was back on her feet and bowing. Ta-da! |
She'll tell you who she is in the next post Well, maybe Jessa wasn't convertible, at least not as easily as she had wondered. That was okay, she would have been surprised if there was another person at Hogwarts who shared her sentiments. And Mel also jumped in to defend the Statute, but then Professor Newton was moving the class along. "I'm just going to say that I disagree with Jessa and Mel, and that after class I'd be happy to debate them on the Statute. If you guys want." Obviously she directed this last sentence directly towards her classmates. Now see, that was much better than last year, right? She looked at Katy too, not because she'd said anything but just because of their history. It was not a hostile or a friendly look, just curious. She ruined her attention back to the task at hand. Who was she going to act for? Hmmm.... Standing up from her chair, she ripped a page out of her notebook and began scribbling furiously. Then she ripped another and another and wrote similar messages on them. Finally she drew her wand from her robes and shouted, "Accio Catena!" |
All of this talk about repealing the statute of secrecy was really confusing Emmeline. She didn't understand why they couldn't have Healers and Muggle Relations wizards work together to help Muggles obtain the medical knowledge they needed without magic. Or why Healers couldn't go in and save the day; didn't Muggles believe in random miracles? She thought Nanny had told her they did. But that statute had to stay in place. Not only was Jessa right about how Muggles felt about witches - Nanny had taught her all about the Burning Times - but some wizards would use the new freedom to take advantage of Muggles. She shuddered at the thought of wizards who believed that wizardkind was superior to everyone and everything else feeling free to act more openly and interact harshly with Muggles legally. Before she could try to say any of this, though, she was distracted by the professor's instructions. MORE creative stuff? First Astronomy (although drawing constellations suddenly didn't seem so bad), then singing in Muggle Studies (which she hadn't done), and now acting in a history class! Emmeline grimaced slightly; she was NOT creative at all, and did not expect this sort of thing from this particular subject. She was glad they weren't just reading the textbook, but she would prefer the professor to have told Still, the first year had already refused to participate in the Muggle Studies activity, so she didn't think she could skip out on another one this month. Emmeline twirled her quill between her fingers as she tried to think of something to do. Finally, she pulled out two spare pieces of parchment and drew BIG creatures acting out their parts on both of them. The professor had said multiple students could use the same famous wizard, so she hoped Derf wouldn't mind her choice. The Gryffindor walked to the front of the room like Ace and the others had done with her two drawings, nerves already jangling. "Umm, I'm going to show Newt Scamander on an adventure with one of his famous creatures," she told the class fairly quietly. She really didn't want to do this; her palms were sweating and her heart was beating like mad, but she had to do it, she wanted good marks in this class. She placed one of her drawings down on an empty desk nearby and ran to the other side of the room. There she held up her first drawing so everyone could see it; it showed a large picture of a niffler running towards a bank vault and hopping on a banker's cart full of gold. Emmeline crouched down to a height where she could reasonably pick up a niffler and ran in that crouch alllll the way to the other side of the room where she'd left her other parchment. Discarding the first picture, she mimed dramatically grabbing a small creature and turning him upside down before tickling where his pouch would be to make him release his treasures. That done, she picked up her second piece of parchment with two drawings on it. The first drawing showed the niffler lounging inside the bank vault, wearing a satisfied expression on his face while gold and precious jewels overflowed from his pouch. The second showed one hand holding the niffler upside down while another hand tickled its pouch and the treasures spilling out onto the floor of the vault. That was what she had done, see? Feeling her face flush with embarrassment, the first year collected her pictures and practically ran back to her seat, where she slunk down as far as she could go without winding up on the floor. She hoped that wasn't too terrible. |
Feel free to say Roo roped your character into his thing Rooney paused, looking at Kitty before putting his head down and pretending everything was not a debate again. Was she making History of Magic idiot decisions her talent now? Because that was what she was going to be remembered for. Those opinions of hers that she didn't accept as being wrong to the majority. Roo had already decided that he wasn't going to talk to her about it this time because she kept out of his issues and it was probably just an unspoken understanding for them both. He was glad that Katy had decided to keep quiet on the matter, shooting her a thankful smile across the classroom. That best friend of his was almost as problematic as he was and that was saying a whole lot. Not that he'd say that to her because Katherine Toussaint got really grumpy with him really quickly. Probably because he had a lot of thoughts about the decisions she made and had made in the past. Hands stuffed into his pockets, the Ravenclaw waited his turn to get up in front of the class. It was probably going to obvious immediately who he was doing, because it was the exact answer he had given minutes ago. But he believed in his answer and therefore was going to stick by it. He took a few moments to orchestrate three students from the front of the class to come up with him, instructing them in whispers to act as ladylike as possible and to walk over to him so he could help. Also mentioned TWICE that they were NOT to speak or make any noise at all. The Head Boy had instructed. Ahem. Taking his own spot, Rooney went against telling people what he was doing and put himself straight into his role. He too, held himself a little lighter and stepped a little more gracefully than he would normally - giving off the hint that his character was female. Beckoning over the others with him, Rooney opened up a pretend door, draping pretend blankets over each of the 'girls' coming into the shelter he had set up for them. Once all in through the pretend door, he dished out meals to each of them and gave out hugs. It was obvious that he was Miss Dorcas, right? |
Kitty and ROONEY (because there's no way she'd not) and sorta Mel Still a little rattled from her Prefects suggestion--HER OWN PREFECT OF ALL PEOPLE--Jessa tried keeping all her focus on the parchment she'd been doodling on. For as much as she could, the young girl willed herself not to consider all the possibilities that would come with repealing such an important statute. The sound of her name drew her attention to Melbourne who was...agreeing with her? Well good. Told her that some people were still thinking clearly. Jessa nodded to the Professor's insistence they not turn this into a debate. That was fine by her. This wasn't a topic she would sit through by any stretch of the imagination. "No thanks." She replied when Kitty mentioned disagreeing and offered to discuss afterwards. "I'd rather not." Muggles mixing with magic was a very touchy subject for her because of personal experience. A discussion on repealing the law and leaving a free for all was literally the last thing she needed. On a happier note, ROONEY NEEDED VOLUNTEERS!!! Lucky she'd been sat near the front of the room today. It allowed her to jump up immediately and make herself available. Jessa was sure to listen to his instructions and was all prepared to SILENTLY go on with him. The best part, she would have to say, was when he'd given out HUGS. Roo gave good hugs. Everyone knew this, right? If not, they should. Already up there, the Ravenclaw figured she would go next. "Hang on, I'll begin in a minute." She said by way of warning, just before reaching into her pocket for a loose piece of parchment and tearing it into strips. The strips she then turned into sticks of about the same size as her wand. "Okay! Now I'm ready!" And that was the last she would say. Without another word, Jessa waved her wand, then waved the sticks to give the impression they were "all the same". She then moved along the class offering these stick wands to the others, gesturing for them to give it a wave before moving on to offer a stick wand to someone else. Once she got back to the front of the room, Jessa took a bow then went back to her seat to begin her few sentences. SPOILER!!: Parchment |
Rosalyn was relieved to see that the Statute discussion was being dealt with in a calm manner as opposed to breaking out into a war as had happened last term. Discussions were always welcome just so long as they stayed civil, and with the Statue, that wasn't always the case. At any rate her attention was turned to Miss Sorin-Ward. "Muggles have indeed helped a lot to shape our world and there are many things for us to be thankful to them for. Unfortunately I have to keep my lessons skewed more towards the magical aspect unless we're dealing with muggles who came in direct contact with magic." Muggles were absolutely wonderful and it could be said that their achievements could be seen as greater in a way because they couldn't rely on magic for assistance. People started on the activity, and she smiled as she watched them. Rosalyn hoped that they would enjoy acting out and was tempted to tell a few of them that they were supposed to explain who they were pretending to be, but decided not to. Instead she would give them the choice on if they wanted to explain or not. So long as they portrayed the person in a way that was understandable; that was the important part. OOC: There are still 48 hours for you all to finish up in. :) |
Emmeline heaved a sigh of relief and sat up properly in her chair again. No one was staring at her after she'd done the activity; in fact, they had moved on and she was interested to see what Rooney and his group would be doing. The first year smiled at Jessa as she took one of the fake wands from the older girl. This would be super fun to watch, she could already tell. She had a nagging feeling in the back of her mind, though, like she'd forgotten something. What... Oh! The writing part of the assignment! Emmeline quickly pulled out a fresh piece of parchment and got to work on that. SPOILER!!: parchment |
Playing MAJOR catch up Noelle had been in the back of the class taking notes. There were a lot of them. People who had made a difference in the wizarding world. Her quill was scribbling as hard as it could. Thank Merlin for self-inking quills. Once all the notes had been taken, Noelle gave a look between the debate that seemed to have sprung up in class. Moving along.. They were to be acting out something? Wait... silently acting it out. Hmm.. Since Rooney needed volunteers, Noelle hobbled up to pretend she was one of the women in need. Ending her volunteering with a hug from Rooney, she went back to sit down and wait for others to go up while she worked on making wands out of parchment. When it was her turn, Noelle went up. She was very dramatic as she worked the parchment into wands. Her eyebrows wiggled and her mouth was in a very concentrated manner. Once she made a few "wands", she lifted them in the air dramatically with a gleeful expression. Once her wands were made, she pretended to put them in a box. Noelle didn't ask for volunteers, but she did go around and place the wands on random students desks. She was Garrick Ollivander. Noelle finished her silent act and went back to her seat to write out what she would contribute. SPOILER!!: Contribution |
A debate with Jessa was just taken off the table by Jessa herself, which was totally cool with Kitty, "Okay, no problem," she replied casually, smiling thinly at Jessa to show she wasn't angry or anything. There was nothing wrong with having a difference of opinion, and she really didn't hold anything against those who disagreed with her. If they ever met a kind, sick Muggle, she was sure they'd change their minds. Speaking of which... Kitty reached into the air to grab the pair of plastic handcuffs she'd summoned from her trunk with her spell. "Ha!" she cried as it hit her hands with more force than she'd expected. Rubbing her bruised hands gingerly, she then slipped the handcuffs over her wrists and held up the sheets of paper she'd been writing on: Stop Spell Suppression! Repeal the Statute! Smiling mischievously, she mouthed silently, "I'm Carlotta Pinkstone." Then she removed the handcuffs and began writing what she would do to help the world. |
... and the Parchment part.... Discussions about Kitty's stand on the Statute was in play again, and he listened attentively as many of his own friends said their bit. It did indeed seem like a more reasonable discussion unlike the last time, which he can only see as progress. So what can he do to be a worthwhile contributing member of the Wizarding World this year? Gosh the concept can be quite daunting to think about for the almost 16 year old, who currently just worries about his OWLs this year and hoping that both his IMPS candidates will make it out alive and in one happy piece by the end of the challenges. He drew up the parchment, set his quill against the page and started writing.... SPOILER!!: Parchment |
part 3 - essay Now that she'd acted her part, Kitty sat down on her chair to do the essay part of the activity. She hesitated for awhile, not sure what to write. At first she'd been planning to write about being an activist to repeal the Statute. But the essay wasn't about what they'd do after school, it was about the upcoming year, and no amount of activism would get the Statute repealed in just one year. But what could a Ravenclaw prefect in her sixth year at school do on a wide scale to make the world a better place? She thought about it for a few moments before the answer dawned on her. She bent down and began to write... SPOILER!!: Parchment |
random mentions. being pulled by Rooney. acting, etc etc Was it just her or did it seem like Kitty was always looking for an argument? Perhaps the girl should pursue a field in litigation. Repealing the statute though? It wasn't about equality and openness, but it was about protection and self-preservation. Also, how could she possibly think about equality and openness, when she didn't even want to give Salazar Slytherin an open-mind to see how he thought about things, but was so quick to judge him. Hypocrite. Fortunately, Professor Newton was quick to nip the discussion in the bud this year, which led to her to focus on the task at hand. Silent acting. With an act in mind, obviously she would portray the professor candidate she voiced earlier, Skylar sat watching others for a moment to wait her turn. Neville Longbottom, stellar performance, she grinned at the Gryffindor Prefect. Uh oh, that first year Gryffindor stole acting out as Newt; Sky hoped Derf wouldn't be upset by that. Also, what was it with Rooney acting out as females? First Charms with his Halloween costume, now this? But she didn't have time to ponder as she'd been pulled up along with Jessa and faked being pampered and fed and then she got a Rooney!hug. So sweet of Rooney, who obviously was taking care of distressed witches. Taking a little curtsey when the Head Boy was done, she sat back down a moment to watch Jessa's performance. And then Noelle making wands was simple marvelous. "Thank you," she muttered to the older girl, who obviously was a wandmaker. Probably the original owner of Ollivander's ... Garrick was his name? Oi. What was that with Kitty and the statute now? The girl just did NOT give up, did she? Well, good as time as any to break into her act. Having made a paper beard with a blank piece of parchment, she used adhaero to stick it to her face, altered her robes to appear all red, and went up to the front of the classroom. Taking a seat on the desk, she promptly began acting as if she was teaching the class, talking randomly about Christmas ironically enough. Or not, ironically, considering. Hopping off the desk, she faked writing on the board with chalk as well. Okay, so while she never had the blessing of having Anjelica Lainey teach her, and she doubted her stories were half as interesting from what she heard, Skylar hoped she got the point across. Beard. Red outfit. Storytelling. Time to go sit down and think about what she might do in the upcoming year and let someone else perform. |
Great big SHINY WIDE BROWN EYES WERE HAPPENING. This... this had suddenly just become the best lesson ever (except for the part after all the fun part which... ew). ACTING. THIS was even better than SINGING in class. Oh, except for the fact that it was SILENT acting and Abey mostly liked using his voice when he acted because it was good for extra dramatic effect. Being quiet was usually what he did when he wanted to relax and recharge and sit on his own and paint, so... it was weird to combine SILENCE with THEATRE, at least to the young Mr. Botros. Anyway, Abey KNEW who he was going to pick, obviously, because it had been his own suggestion, and obviously it was extra special because they even shared a name and everything. Once it was his turn, he all but ran up to the front of the class, skidding to a halt on the stone floor. Ahem. First off, Abey made to stand up straight and tall, holding himself proudly and distinguishedly like Abraham Botroses tended to. He had SEEN pictures of his great-grandfather from back in those days, which made it even easier to know what he was aiming for. Of course, the actual ACTIONS might need to be a bit more symbolic and everything, because... well, it wasn't like LITERAL hide and seek, apparently, what his namesake had once done, but for the sake of an act that would make sense, Abey knew he could improvise. For a moment, he wandered around his 'stage', doing wizardy things and magic (and miming like he was holding a wand instead of getting out his actual wand, because he didn't want to accidentally do magic or poke someone's eye out). Then, he acted like he was reading the newspaper, and looked SHOCKED and APPALLED, because actually he was reading all about this whole war thing and the mean things they were saying about muggleborns. Rushing to the other side of his stage, Abey made like he was letting himself out of a door, then circled the floor for a little while, travelling and searching and SWISHING HIS ROBES ALL IMPRESSIVELY. Then, suddenly, there they were! Neighbours - invisible to everyone in the room - that he knew were muggleborns. Abey USHERED THEM CLOSER, showed them the newspaper, then LOOKED AROUND LIKE OH NO. Gesturing the 'others' to come with him, he circled the floor a couple more times until he was back in his 'house', and started motioning as though he was guiding people to actual hiding places in the actual classroom - behind and under desks and through the classroom door and the like. After that, it was time to act natural. Abey went back to his 'newspaper', acting just as he had been doing before, then waved out of the 'window' of his 'house', as though people were passing by outside and looking in. Abey smiled until they were 'gone', then retrieved everyone from their hiding places. With that, he looked all around as though checking the coast was clear, gestured his invisible muggleborns to come with him, and exited stage left! Meaning, he went straight out of the classroom door. AND THEN HE CAME BACK. "I was Abraham Botros!" In case that wasn't clear. ... Well, looked like the fun part was over. |
People were already starting to act out their chosen famous or important people, and Stasya was prepared to watch everyone with interest. Especially since she was hoping it meant that Professor Newton’s trying to stop the argument over if the statute was good or not worked. Not that she really understood everything about the statute, but she figured there had to be a good reason it existed. And she didn’t want to be discriminated against either. She knew that not all Muggles liked magic. She knew that most of them didn’t know it was real, either. Mrs. Allsopp didn’t know about magic, and she didn’t want to have to stop visiting her and all her pets when she was home because magic wasn’t secret anymore and people might not think it was as helpful and everything it seemed like Kitty thought they would. But then it was all back, as the Ravenclaw prefect decided not to let it go. She was wide-eyed at that performance, practically forgetting to tell Emmeline that she’d liked her performance. But she could tell her later. Right now she was worried that something bad was going to happen. Luckily, she had Skylar and Abey to watch, letting herself feel a bit less like she was at risk of wanting to hide. Both of their acts were a lot less scary, and she managed to stand up once Abey had finished his. She still had to do hers, after all, and while they’d been told they didn’t have to use who they’d mentioned she figured she could leave Newt Scamander to Derf if he wanted to follow Emmeline’s act. Plus, she knew what she was going to do so it was easy. At first, she pretended to be knitting. Another thing she knew about because of visits to Mrs. Allsopp’s house. After finishing a few pretend knitted things, she acted like she was leaving them around the room before going back to pretend-knitting more things that also got left around the room. And she also went to her desk and got a piece of parchment on which she scribbled “Society for the Protection of Elfish Welfare” and a bunch of random scribbles to represent a manifesto. It was only then that she returned to her seat, leaving the scribbled parchment on her desk as she waited to see who would go next. Plus, she took out another piece of parchment to work on the written part of the activity. SPOILER!!: parchment |
Okay, see, Junia's cousin Abey performing? Totally innocent and adorable, unlike that instigator of a Ravenclaw Prefect. Not that discussions and debates were bad, but when fueled by the wrong things, they were certainly irritating. Even that First Year, Staysa, pretend knitting was kind of cool. The girl was supposed to be the famous witch, Hermione Granger, Sky was sure of it especially when she took note of what the girl scribbled down. Okay, focus, it was time to figure out she could help the wizarding world in the upcoming year. Nothing, Newton, absolutely nothing. She was only fourteen, so what could she do? It wasn't as if she made her own money to donate to charity. Closing her eyes a moment to think, she then opened when she found inspiration from a week ago. SPOILER!!: Parchment |
Shay took some notes and jotted all of the people that made important contributions, according to her classmates. Now it was time to have a little fun. They got to select one of the people mentioned and act out a scene pertaining to them. Oh this was going to be interesting. After giving it a little thought, Shay decided to portray Mr. Ollivander. Since she was the one to mention him, she thought it was only right. When her turn came, Shay stood in front of the class. She wanted to give her silent portrayal and see if the class could figure out what she was doing. But following instructions, she gave the class a heads up. I am going to portray Mr. Ollivander showing wands to a new student. Shay put on a serious face and hunched her shoulders a bit. She wanted to give that older wizard vibe. The Gryffindor looked down questioningly, as if seeing a smaller child. Then she nodded and turned around. Moving her head up and down, Shay pretended to look for something. She reached up and removed an invisible box from an invisible shelf. Turning back to her imaginary student, she pretended to sit the box down and remove a wand. She reached out as if giving the wand to the child and waited. A moment later, Shay jumped back in surprise. Then she shook her head, as if that wand wouldn't do. Taking the wand back, she looked for another. When she found imaginary wand number two, she repeated the process of handing it to student who was not there. This time, more head shaking followed. Finally, she pretended to reach for another wand and handed it over. This time, Shay broke into a big smile and began nodding enthusiastically. She took the wand back, pretended to box it and reached out to give it back to the "student. The end. Acting done. Facing the class again, she took a bow and hustled back to her seat. Now, while keeping one eye and one ear on the next performer, Shay began to think about her answer to the professor's question. What would she do to help out the wizarding world. Picking up her quill, she began to write on her parchment. SPOILER!!: Parchment |
A silent acting activity? Etta wasn't too pleased. Why did their activities involve creative arts forms lately? Singing in muggle studies and now, acting in this class? What was the point? How was this going to help their future? Obviously, her career wasn't going to involve anything remotely connected to acting so.. what was all this? Or maybe she was just not in the mood for this right now. She considered not participating at all but she didn't want to lose points because of it. She simply waited and watched as her classmates acted out arious characters from the past before her gaze turned towards the black board. Which character did she want to act out? After a few moments of contemplation, she decided to pick Hermione Granger. It would be simple and quick.. right? Trying not to flush and look terribly embarrassed, she quickly got up and moved to the front of the class.. just wanting to get this over with as soon as possible. Okay.. now, what did she have to do? Oh, yeah. Hermione Granger was known for her SPEW badges.. right? She looked serious and concerned while she pretended to hand out badges to everyone... but not every person would be interested, right? She tried giving one to an imaginary person but expressed disappointment when he didn't accept it but she still looked determined.. determined that she was fighting for a cause and it was the right thing to do. She pretended to hand out badges to a couple of more imaginary people before quickly rushing back to her seat.. her face flushed bright red. That was terrible. Ugh.. she just wasn't good at all this. Etta plopped down at her desk, pulling out a parchment and quill. How would she contribute to the wizarding world? Huh. That required some serious thought. Um.. she had many ideas and thoughts but one in particular stood out. Something that was related to what she wanted to do in the future. SPOILER!!: parchment |
Olivia, who loved to act, okay, OKAY, didn't immediately move from her seat. Though getting awarded those five extra points had eased some of the nasty tension at the base of her skull, the blonde was now faced with the task of trying to figure out which historical figure she wanted to portray. With the added limitation of it needed to be a silent performance. That was going to be a serious challenge as so many historical witches and wizards weren't remembered for things that would be recognizable without the backtrack of speech. Resolving herself to watch the others act out their scenes before she settled on anyone, Liv pulled a clean sheet of parchment and began scribbling down ideas. Remember there were no small roles, just small actors. Slowly getting to her feet, the blonde shook out her limbs before confidently moving to the front of the classroom. Though her mood was low, that was no reason for her not to keep her appearances. She was about to slay this, yes she was. Because she'd decided upon a witch that was both conventional and hilarious. Hopefully, it would inspire a laugh among her classmates. If not, well...whatever. They weren't that funny either. Hmph. ...but first, some preparation. Using her wand to summon a fish bow, the Gryffindor filled it halfway up with water. Hey, Professor Newton had said they were to be silent. She'd not once said anything about having props. So, here they were. Next, she'd carefully tangled up a bit of string, giving the impression of "worms". Hopefully? Eh, she was working with what little she had here, okay? So, for what wasn't obvious at this point, use your imagination! Was that everything, then...? Oh, a towel. She'd needing one of those for after. Oh, better yet... Slipping out of her school robe, Liv set it to the side, having decided to just dry it after she was finished here. No tricks, just treats. NOW...was that all?! Yes? Yes. Good. Lights. Camera. ACTION! To set the scene, Olivia pretended to be hard at work pruning her plants. Tra la la. It was just a normal day. Just a normal day for a normal woman who regularly taste-tested her work. She demonstrated this but silently picking up the invisible clippings, only to bring them to her nose, before popping them into her mouth. Mm, TASTY PLANTS....However, after having done this with the rolled up ball of string (which was meant to resemble worms), the blonde began to gasp dramatically for air. GASP. GASP. GAAAAAAAASP! She couldn't breath!!!! Was she suddenly choking on what she'd just ate?! Pretending to claw at her throat, desperately hoping for some air....she eventually lumbered over to the awaiting bowl of water. THERE WAS FLAILING AND she was properly turning red!!!! QUICK!! SOMEONE HELP.... But then...quite suddenly she misstepped and drove her head down into the bowl, soaking her entire head!!!!!! BUT IT WAS FINE...because...she could suddenly breath. Breathing....breathing is wonderful. Yep, doing the breathing thing.... With a short laugh, Olivia pulling her head out of the bowl and reached for her robe, wrapping it like a turban around her sopping wet hair. "Hello, my name is Elladora Ketteridge, and I'm a plantoholic." Hello, Elladora.... "Gillyweed, anyone?" ....And that was it. Tada. Anyway, about that essay....Collecting some parchment after having soaked up most of the water from her hair, the blonde set to work on writing out an essay on being the change she wanted to see in the world...or whatever the quote was.. It wasn't the most riveting thing to ever be written in life, but it'd fulfilled the assignment requirements, nonetheless. SPOILER!!: Parchment |
From her vantage point at the back of the room, Sophie tried her best to pay attention to the presentations of the others. It was hard, though, because she could see just how close her turn was. Time seemed to fly in leaps and bounds and before she knew it, her turn had arrived. As she stood with shaky legs and a pounding heartbeat, Sophie could feel every eye in the classroom turn to her. She cautiously made her way to the front, doing all she could to keep herself upright. When she finally reached the front of the room, she turned to face the other students. After clearing her throat, she said softly, "I will be acting out the scene where Harry Potter saves his cousin from the dementors, because he made the world a better place then by putting somebody else above himself." Now to set the stage. She removed her cloak and draped it ominously over a chair. "A dementor," she whispered, waving the edges of the cloak back and forth to make it look like it was flying. Next, she carefully positioned a second chair near her stand-in dementor. "This is Dudley, Harry's Muggle cousin." Lastly, she drew a lightning bolt down her forehead with a bit of chalk dust from the rest of the chalkboard. "And I will be portraying Harry," she finished. All that was left now was the hardest part. She had to actually act it out. She imagined Dudley cowering in fear as the dementor creeped closer and closer, its long fingers reaching out to grasp his neck. Then she jumped out as Harry, wand held high as if to ward off any evil. She kicked the cloaked chair backwards to show that Harry had prevailed before assisting "Dudley" off of the stage with a bashful bow. Sophie returned to her seat, still trembling violently from the anxiety of being the center of attention. Despite the uncontrollable quaking of her hand, she made a valiant attempt to write out her assignment. SPOILER!!: Parchment |
Rosalyn had to say that she was really enjoying watching her students. Of course she was, they were quite the actors and actresses! To say that she was impressed was an understatement. It was hard to avoid applauding after each one, but somehow she managed. It might distract them too much and she did not want that to happen. "Wonderful!" she said as everyone had finished. "Simply wonderful!" Unfortunately it was time to wrap up. "Class is over, so if you would finish up your writing, you can hand it in and leave. Have a good rest of your day." Smiles all round. OOC: Thanks for attending everyone! Class is now over, but I shall leave the thread open for a bit longer for if people want to post wrapping up. |
catch up and good bye :3 A scene. A scene. A SCENE. ONE. SINGULAR. HOW WAS HE MEANT TO PICK JUST ONE SCENE TO PLAY FROM THE AMAZING LIFE THAT WAS HIS IDOL?! Like...no...it just couldn't be done. That was like asking a niffler which piece of gold was it's favorite, you know? Which basically meant that the first half of his classmates' performances were spent with the cogs in the second year's head turning and turning and turning some more because just HOW was he meant to pick ONE thing?!?! Of course, the first thing that popped to mind was a certain mating dance that both saved Jacob Kowalski's life but also returned a certain Erumpent back to his suitcase. Really, any reenactment of his recapture of his escaped creatures was significant and MEANINGFUL, but Derf struggled to pick just ONE. And besides, Emmeline had already done one of those with the niffler sooooooooo he was just gonna have to pick something else. The capture of Gellert Grindelwald. THAT was pretty significant...but so was his handling of Obscurus...oh oh and the whole confidential Ministry of Magic programme to wrangle Ukrainian Ironbellys...OR his immigration check in when he road that ship to America...or or...OOOOOOOR...holy flaming salamanders HOW was he going to choose?! Ultimately he decided to go for something action PACKED and took a note from Olivia's book and pulled a chair out from one of the desks and set it in the middle of the space. To help set the stage, he traced the outline of a person in the chair...and then figured he should use something for a prop there so he removed his outer robe and draped it over the chair. Tina Goldstein everyone! The Hufflepuff then began rolling around on the floor in front of the chair all sluggishly and dramatically, flailing his arms and legs and making all sorts of grotesque looking faces and such because AMERICAN CAPITAL PUNISHMENT GOO! Once he was SURE - in his head at least - that people got the gist of this, he scrambled back to his feet and outlined too other people before taking his formal stance as THE one and ONLY Newt Scamander looking all falsely forlorn with his hands behind his back because HANDCUFFED. Standing still for a bit, he wiggled his arm and used his eyes to follow the movement of his invisible bowtruckle as the lock on his cuffs was picked and VIOLA SET FREE. OH OH OH he probably had another prop to help with this..... YES YES YES HE HAD A YOYO! The Hufflepuff used his yoyo to as his SWOOPING EVIL and made it ciiiiiiiiiiircle around the chair. He did that a few times while making all kids of dramatic gestures as Newt for Tina to JUMP and TRUST HIM before the second year switched gears and became the Swooping Evil himself and fleeeeeeeeew around the chair. With one final pass, he skillfully pulled his robes off the chair and TOSSED them into the air because she was JUMPING and then scurried back around to catch the robes before they hit the ground. He then proceeded to run around the room flourishing his yoyo around into he was FREE! Okay...so it wasn't really the most signification scene of his hero's life to reenact...but it seemed sort of relevant given things? Yes? No? Maybe? Probably not. He had panicked. Back in his seat and grabbing a piece of parchment, Derf set to writing this paragraph of sorts. But really..what all COULD a second year do to make a world of a difference? Well, he only knew how to be him...so that was what he would write about. Or something. SPOILER!!: parchment Satisfied, sort of, with his paragraph, the Hufflepuff stood and turned it in to Professor Newton with a grin. "Bye profes-ss-sor!" he chirped before collecting his things and heading out of the classroom. |
