| Term 46: May - August 2017 Term Forty-Six: Guests from Ilvermorny (Sept 2092 - June 2093) |

| | Hieroglyphs Hall Adjacent to the stone gargoyle is a door that used to lead to a low-ceilinged storeroom for pieces of furniture, like chests, cupboards, vases, and armchairs, as well as spare portrait frames and candlesticks. Upon becoming the headmistress of the school, everything that had once been in the room was moved elsewhere so that she could make better use of the space.
The door, now containing the Eye of Horus, opens into a narrow corridor that will transport anyone into a place that is vastly different from the rest of the castle. Lit by a number of torches, the limestone mud brick walls are covered in hieroglyphs, featuring animals, various objects, and many other shapes. The wide range of logographic, syllabic, and alphabetic elements belonging to Ancient Egypt tell a story the further you walk down the passageway. Unless you have been diligently reading and studying Magical Hieroglyphs and Logograms, the pictures and symbols might not make a whole lot of sense. Nonetheless, they are a rather beautiful sight to take in as they are not something you see every day.
Walking through to the end of the corridor will take you into a chamber that gives off quite the impression. Front and centre rests a golden sarcophagus, brightly painted in elaborate decorations featuring the gods and goddesses. It is clear that this room can only be fit for a king -- or, in this case, a pharaoh. Beside the sarcophagus are four canonic jars, each supposedly containing the brain and organs of the deceased. Scattered throughout the rest of the room are a number of jars, baskets, and bottles containing water, food, and oils and perfumes in addition to piles of the finest jewels and linens. There is even an ivory game of Senet placed on a small stone table to make the journey to the afterlife more bearable.
Dare you see if there is a linen-wrapped mummy inside its coffin waiting to be unleashed? Or perhaps you are interested in holding those expensive goods? Do so with caution. Surely you have not forgotten that every tomb comes with a curse or two? The headmistress, true to her Curse-Breaker and Defence roots, may have set up a few curses for those who get a little too carried away. OOC: This is an area set up for the lovers of Ancient Egyptian history, the aspiring Curse-Breaker, and/or the general castle explorer. If you have a character that cannot help but touch everything they see, feel free to have them be cursed temporarily. The headmistress purposefully placed an array of curses, hexes, and jinxes (e.g., Babbling Curse, Full Body-Bind Curse, Hair Loss Curse, Bat-Bogey Hex, Sardine Hex, Tickling Hex, Jelly-Legs Jinx, Melofors Jinx, Knockback Jinx) on many of the items inside the room for learning purposes. ;]

| Unforgivably Cursed | adultescent After having gone to Hogwarts, Henry was fairly certain that he knew most of the ins and outs of this school. Sure, he had heard about secret passageways and hidden rooms, but he had spent much of his first and second years exploring things and figured he knew what he needed to at this point.
But he came across something curious during one of his patrols on the second floor. Had that strange door been there before? He didn't go down this way much so he couldn't say for certain. Henry recognized the symbol as an Egyptian hieroglyph but he wasn't sure what it meant.
Somewhat curious, he pushed open the door and stepped inside the narrow corridor. Was it a secret passageway he hadn't yet discovered? Now that would be cool, but... whatever this was seemed to be really interesting anyway. He walked a little bit further inside, his eyes falling on the symbols written on the walls lit by the hanging torches. Too bad he didn't completely understand what they said.

Back when Camilla had been a student here she had explored every place she had been able to find both inside and outside of the school. There had always been somewhere new to check out and even now as a Professor her want to explore was still there even if she didn't have as much time for it as she had when she had been a student.
Hearing that some of the professors had added some new rooms meant that one by one, Professor Stewart planned on checking them out. Today's room was this one. Stepping through the doorway she walked forward taking in all the symbols along the walls, occasionally stopping to try to figure out what some of them meant.
It wasn't until she got future into the room that she noticed someone else was here. "Ah, hello, Mr Whittebrook. Find anything interesting yet?" she asked softly so as not to startle him. Had something specific caught his eye?

Had something specific caught his eye? Henry slowly walked through the corridor, his eyes scanning the rows of hieroglyphs written there. No, he couldn't read them but he still found them rather interesting and, if he had the patience, maybe he could figure out a general idea of a message. Some of the language was pictograms, right? At least that was how he understood it.
But he was also curious to see what was further down the corridor so he kept going until he reached a room with obvious Egyptian artifacts. Cool. His eyes transfixed on a grouping of canopic jars, he was just starting to walk towards them when a sudden voice made him jump slightly in surprise. Even if she might have been trying to not startle him, he had been so focused on what he was looking at that he hadn't even realized anyone else was in there with him. "Oh, hi, Professor Stewart," he smiled at the woman. Even after several years of it, he still found the formal address some of the professors chose to use with the students to sound strange to his ears. "Sure," he shrugged. "There's a lot of interesting things in here." And he figured anyone who hadn't been in here before would think that. "Have you been in here before?"

Even though she had been being quite and hadn't intended on startling the Hufflepuff, she had done just that. Whatever he was trying to understand through those hieroglyphs on the wall must have been enough to keep him from hearing her walking towards him. "Sorry about that, I didn't mean to startle you," she apologized softly.
Brown eyes turned towards the writing and pictures on the wall, silently studying them. This was certainly not one of her strong suits and without a book or something to help decipher the symbols there wasn't very much she could understand. A lot of guess work would be happening if she tried. "There certainly seems to be," Camilla agreed carefully walking towards where the baskets were to get a better look. "No, I haven't had the chance. I take it this is your first time in here as well?" She looked over her shoulder at him as she spoke.

Oh, had it been obvious that he was surprised that someone sneaked up on him? Henry thought he had covered it well, but it wasn't any big deal either way. "Oh, it's fine, Professor." He kept his voice at a conversational level, even if hers was softer, not thinking it was necessary to be quiet. "I was just looking around and didn't realize anyone else was here." "Yeah, my first time too," he said, turning his attention back to the canopic jars. There was a set of four just like there should be. "Has this room always been here? I hadn't noticed it before." But to be fair, he hadn't been down this particular corridor in the past. It was only because of his prefect rounds that he had noticed it now. He was really curious about the canopic jars though, knowing what they were meant to hold, and he reached out to see if they were actually authentic.

It happened to her all the time when she was out and about hiking and exploring. Time passed by so quickly when you were doing something you enjoyed, like checking out a new place such as this one.
The professors curiosity got the better of her and she wandered over to see what it was Henry was looking at. The canopic jars were certainly attention grabbing if one was interested in such things. "Not that I'm aware of. If it was here before this term than the Headmistress may have had the area closed off." It was likely that Regina had only opened the rooms up for everyone to look at this term but that it had been here already.

Henry shrugged at the professor's question, thinking the answer was pretty obvious considering what he had just said. No need to repeat himself and he had returned his attention to the artifacts anyway. "Oh," he said lightly as he lifted the lid off of the jackal-head jar,
wondering if what was meant to be inside was actually in there. He didn't remember the specifics of what each jar held but he did remember that they were meant to hold something different according to which jar it was. "I wonder why she'd have it closed off." And then open it now? It didn't really make much sense to him.
The contents of the jar were curious, but it wasn't what he expected. It looked more like dust than anything and he chuckled as he replaced the lid as it felt like feathers brushing under his fingers. "I wonder.." he said, chuckling a little more. "Why it's even here at all."

"Why it's even here at all." Camilla wandered over towards the bottles that were lined up taking a closer look at each of them. The designs etched into each one was amazing, capturing your attention and making you wonder just what was on the creators mind when these items were made. Upon closer examination, without reaching out and touching them, it was easy to make out what some of the contents inside each were. The one she was correctly looking at containing some type of oil.
Why the room may have been closed off was something she could only guess the answer to. "That I'm not sure but it's highly likely that she only just added this room." As most of the professors here have been doing. It seemed liked adding, changing or getting rid of certain rooms all together was a trend around here.
Her brown eyes moved onto the next bottle, this one containing some sort of sand or something inside. Completely ignoring the contents inside the bottle Cami choose to once again focus on the design pattern. "Perhaps it's something the Headmistress enjoys and she thought we all might enjoy it as well." A simple answer really but very much a plausible one.

To be honest, Henry really didn't care that much if the room had been here before or not, or if it had been closed off, or had just appeared. He had just been curious and he was more interested in what the room offered then the why or how. "Yeah, maybe," he said, barely getting the words out as his initial chuckles became more pronounced laughter. Henry turned his attention away from the canopic jars as he looked down at his hands, the light tickling in his fingers growing stronger as the tickling sensation quickly crept up and into his arms. He laughed harder and clutched at his sides as he became ticklish all over. "So.. ticklish.." He managed between laughter and gasps for breath. What was happening?

With all the commotion of last term if a room had gone unnoticed by her who would've blamed that fact? It had been her first term back as a professor and it had been a very insane one at that. Her mind and focus had been on everything else and she had no real time to wander about checking out rooms.
This term was relatively calm even with the arrival of the Ilvermorny students. There was more time to walk about the corridors and have a closer look at things which she had been slowly doing. Camilla didn't think what she had said was funny at all, the sudden laughter confusing her causing her to turn away from the bottles and their beautiful designs. "Are you alright?," she asked confusion taking over her eyes when she saw Henry hunched over hugging himself and laughing even harder. What was going on?
Professor Stewart walked over to where he was standing quickly looking at the items around him assessing them for anything that could be making him laugh. Not seeing anything only lead to one conclusion, someone had placed a charm on something. Apparently the uncontrollable laughter was a charm. "You touched something..." she guessed pulling out her wand and aiming it at him casting a non-verbal 'Finite'. "I would say that charms have been placed on the items in here." It was a very logically guess now. "Better?" she asked a moment later giving him a chance to catch his breath.

The place was so incredibly Regina that Melanie nearly chuckled about it. She strode into the hall right on time. It was perhaps an odd place to meet a former friend, but Melanie had never been keen on meeting in public spaces anyway. She had sent Regina the note earlier today, and she hoped that the headmistress of Hogwarts would grace her with her presence.
She was not foolish enough to touch anything. She paced back and forth with her arms folded. Regina Hawthorne, where are you? Luckily, Melanie wasn’t wearing a watch, or she’d know just how late Regina was close to being.
Her mind was focused on other things at the moment, and while she wanted to talk to Regina, she also thought of her brother, and of back home. She wasn't even sure why she felt so compelled to speak to the former Ilvermorny professor, but she just needed to. Hopefully Duncan was getting up to things on his own without needing Melanie supervision. Her brother was clever, but Melanie didn't trust him not to make a move without her approval. He could complain, but it was vital he listen to her guidance.

He could complain, but it was vital he listen to her guidance. Considering the entrance to her office was literally adjacent to the Hieroglyphs Hall, it would be absolutely absurd for her to show up late at the designated meeting place. Never mind that she wasn't there before the Ilvermornian History of Magic professor. In all honestly, Regina for once didn't mind taking her sweet old time getting from one place to the other. It gave her extra time to make assumptions about why exactly Melanie Williams wanted to meet with her.
Upon going through the doorway and making her way down the torch-lit corridor, she was a little disappointed to not hear the woman babbling or giggling uncontrollably or screaming upon realizing her hair had fallen off her head or that she was being attacked by flying bat bogeys. There was a glimmer of hope that she'd witness her in a full-body bind, but it was wishful thinking. Her being a former curse-breaker before teaching at Ilvermorny herself was common knowledge.
To no surprise, there the woman was in the flesh, pacing back and forth with her arms crossed. Some things just never changed. Regina took her place by the sarcophagus, without touching it because it was one of the many objects in the room she remembered cursing. Her eyes flashed over to her former colleague. "Hello, Melanie."

Melanie would have reminded Regina that often enough, the closer people were to their intended destination, the more often they were late. Procrastination due to proximity was a valid sickness, of course.
The woman’s voice pierced her, and she turned suddenly, in paranoia, at being properly snuck up on, wand drawn. She reminded herself that they were at Hogwarts, at a school, where nothing seriously horrible could happen to her. There had a monster in the school last term, but she wasn’t scared of a monster. People...people were far scarier than any monster. “Regina. You look well. I haven’t had a chance to...converse one on one with you yet,” she said as she smirked. “It’s been a busy term...what with...IMPs and everything.” Her voice was cool and collected. “I imagine you’re even busier. You’re in charge of an entire school.” Melanie strolled closer to where the headmistress was standing. “Which...is an interesting thing, if you think about it.” Due to….lack of critical judgment on part of Regina.
Melanie didn’t forget.

A slight smirked played on her lips at the sight. Had someone been startled? Regina wasn't surprised. The woman standing before her could really focus on so much at a time. After all these years, the extend of her vigilance was still the same. Odds were her ability to see only part of a picture, instead of the whole, were consistent as well.
Nonetheless, she was still amazed by Melanie's talent at remaining cool and collected. Whether it was genuine or not, the woman couldn't really tell. Yet. "Thank you. The change in setting has done me well," the headmistress responded, leaving it at that. "It certainly has been a busy term. But no one has been jumping through portals or nearly being eaten by a monster from an alternate world. I definitely prefer this over last year." At the present time she just had to put up with a few ghosts from her past. It was tolerable.
Melanie's final comment was something else, however. Was that why she wanted to meet up with her? To show that she still was holding a grudge, even though it was she that failed to see the entire picture in that situation?
Regina didn't forget either. But she was going to be the bigger person here, as always. "And how have you been, Melanie? Enjoying your stay at Hogwarts?"

| "Yes, I had heard about all of that. It sounds unpleasant....IMPs must be a cake-walk for you, then?" she asked as she slowly folded her arms over her chest. "Also, I'm scared to touch anything in this room. I'm sure you've got it chalk full of fun little consequences," and Melanie smiled a little at this. Even the walls and...everything was probably magically addled somehow. It was so Regina-esque. "Does anyone ever come in here?" she asked curiously.
She also wondered if it was a good meeting spot for her and Duncan sometimes. It was very close to Regina's office, but this made it somewhat unexpected, didn't it? Perhaps it wasn't prudent, but she was curious about the comings and goings of this hallway.
The history surrounding the castle was not history she was typically interested in, but she couldn't help get interested in it the longer she stayed here. "Surprisingly, yes. Maybe I'll transfer over next term," she winked. Regina would die, wouldn't she? "I can teach runes so you don't have to." That was a lie. She wasn't the most adept at runes.

"Cake-walk is an understatement," Regina replied. "Unlike portals to alternate universes and beasts waiting within, with the competition there is organisation and safety precautions. Still a lot of work nevertheless."
The little smile that tugged on the woman's lips didn't go unnoticed. A small smile of her own played on Regina's lips, though for a different reason. The History of Magic professor didn't want to touch anything. "You know me well, Melanie," the headmistress stated with a smirk, forgoing to tell the woman standing there with her arms crossed where she could place her fingers. There were ways to discover the few safe spots if she really wanted to. "A number of students do wind up in here from time to time. There have been a few occasions I've had to undo my little tricks."
Always be vigilant. Those Brits quickly learned that lesson from her because of this room.
Ugh. That wink was absolutely repulsive, as was the idea of Melanie Williams transferring to Hogwarts. She didn't display that emotion and simply laughed off what the woman was saying. "If I remember correctly, you weren't exactly the best at Ancient Runes. Better stick with the history books." Then, as an afterthought, she jokingly added, "And Merlin knows how long your brother would survive without you by his side."
