Second duel of the year! Hattie was excited. She was coming on from a win from her first duel, so she was feeling pretty confident. And this duel was against Junia. This would be fine. She was sure she'd won against her before, so she knew she would be fine. She did know it was good to not be too confident though. Over confidence could easily lead to her losing, and that would not be good at all.
Hattie smiled at Junia. Sure she wanted to win, but it didn't mean that she couldn't not be nice. She was a nice person. And that was what she was going to stay at. She bowed, and then as soon a the duel began, she cast the featherlight charm. That would help a lot.
But now she needed an offensive move. She wanted to try and knock Junia off guard. That would be good, and a easy win though she didn't know if it would work or not. So she just cast a Furnunculus charm. That would do.

Another day, another duel. She'd been practicing more lately, did Hirsch know? Focusing on getting better helped distract from the fact that she missed home. The fact that she was growing up. The fact that everyone else around her was, too. It was a difficult and confusing time in her life, okay? She was thankful to have something that she understood and could be good at, even if she knew her opponent was just as good.
It didn't take a defense specialist to know that Hattie was going to attack. The brunette could feel it and she was ready, her strong-side to the blonde so that she was the smallest possible target for her to hit. Her wand was ready too, though her first instinct wasn't to block, but to roll out of the way of the spell, coming up in a crouched position. "Lumos Maxima!" Her voice was hushed, her eyes zeroed in on her target in hopes of blinding the Hufflepuff long enough for her second spell to hit home, putting her at an advantage. "Impedimenta!"
There.

Hattie knew this wasn't going to be a simple win. It would be hard. She might not even win. She'd duelled with Junia a lot. There weren't a lot of girls her age duelling, so it was bound to be that they would be duelling all the time. It helped, a bit, in that she knew Junia, but then Junia new her and it meant that it could be a bit harder too. But Hattie was determined to do good. And at least show that she had improved her her duelling. She was coming off a win, so that had to be good right.
She didn't focus on the fact that Junia had dodged her spell, but instead Hattie decided to cast "Protego!" And then "Finato Duri" She had used it a few times in the past, and she knew it was always helpful. She'd been getting better at it now. So she knew it was all good.
Now for some attack. She was determined to get a spell to hit Junia. She settled on "Ventus" Hoping the strong wind would distract Junia

Okay, it was irritating when your efforts didn't pan out the way you wanted them to, though the irritation didn't show on her face. Not even a little. She was pretty practiced by now at masking her emotions when dueling and so she was the picture of calm as the blast of wind hit her, sending her back a few paces and causing her hair to fan out behind her in a spectacular way. Under different circumstances, she probably would've asked if the effect was attractive models did this during shoots, didn't they?, but not now. Not the time or place. But she was still curious, of course.
No worse for wear, the brunette bounced right back and cast a strongly willed "Immobulus!" Her eyes stayed trained on Hattie, knowing she couldn't simply rely on one spell to take her down. With this in mind, she sent a follow-up, knowing that one of them should be strong enough to work. "Expelliarmus!" Was it clear she wasn't taking this duel lightly?
...Because she wasn't.

Hattie was feeling pretty positive. The shield charm she had just used would be strong for at least a few more spells. , or at least hopefully, so that gave her some time to concentrate on the attack. she could tell that Junia was well into this duel, and She was too. She was determined to win, but she knew it would be hard. She just had to keep going and hopefully not get distracted. She would just keep doing what she did best, and hope it was better than Junia.
Hattie carefully counted the spells, though she seemed to have miscounted a little, because her wand nearly got taken out of her hand by Junia's last spell. Luckily Hattie managed to grip onto her wand, so she didn't lose it. That would not have helped at all! Eep. Better concentrate a little more.
She figured that the best way to try and get a hit was doing a few spells straight after each other, so she began with hair growth charm following it up straight away with Orbis
That would do for now. And by her calculation her shield, with the added strength would last through one more spell. So she needed to start to think of some defence again now.

She was better than this. Junia was a better dueler than this. Her spells had been strong, her disarming spell had been. Why hadn't they been working? She'd go over every detail later when she had time to relax, having calculated each move she made, anticipated the counter moves, and she was sure to be just as disappointed later as she felt now, even if the duel wasn't over yet. Not even close.
Casting the anti-jinx spell on herself, the Slytherin felt a rush of confidence. She'd be safe with this against the Hufflepuff's jinx, at least for the moment. As for Hattie's hair growth charm, it was slowed considerably by Junia's counter-action, allowing her to roll out of the way of it. Her heart hammered in her chest as she jumped to her feet. She wasn't out of this just yet and she wasn't going to keep still. "Slugulus Eructo!" It was her turn to attack and she did it forcefully, her eyes narrowed. If she just kept going, kept fighting, something would hit. It had to hit. She was sure of it.

It was kind of frustrating that she wasn't doing better. But maybe that just showed that they were both good duellers. Hattie wanted to do better though. She wanted to win. She didn't know if she was going to win though. But she would try her best. She needed to get better in the duelling league. That meant she needed to beat Junia. That meant she needed to try some harder spells to try and get through and get hit on Junia.
She frowned as she watched her spells just not hit. She didn't know what Junia was doing, but she did not like it at all. She flinched at the spell she heard Junia beginning to cast, and the girl jumped to the side. She did not want to be vomiting slugs for the next 10 minutes. That would not be good.
Okay. Now to try and get something to really stop Junia in her tracks. Deciding she may as well go hard or go home, Hattie cast langlock, quickly followed by Orbis. Hattie then decided to cast the bat-bogey hex just in case.

They were in the thick of it now and Hattie's first spell narrowly missed the Slytherin, close enough that it gave her goosebumps. Too close for comfort, that was for sure. "Protego," She said firmly in response, thinking if Hattie liked Orbis so much, she could have it back. Sharing was caring, after all. The concentration that went into it was admirable, of course, but it stole Junia's attention for a second too long, allowing the bat-bogey hex to hit and it was a horrible, disgusting sight.
To say the scene playing out before her eyes was unlady-like would be an understatement and the brunette tried very hard not to panic, or wonder if Sam was in the stands watching her bogies take flight. NOT that she had many because she was on top of that, okay? Her heart raced as the bat bogies attacked and her mind wandered, in survival mode and on a mission to protect her from this nightmare of a spell. The GERMS! UGH! SO GROSS! "Vacavus!" It came to her in a light bulb moment and the next thing she knew, a vacuum-like wind was sucking up the heinous bat bogies and ridding her of the problem for good. The relief that she felt was immediate, but it was NOTHING compared to the annoyance. Did the blonde KNOW how gross that had been?! "Carpe Retractum!"
Junia L. Botros was ready to end this.

This was getting intense. She knew she had to be running low on magic points now, but she really was just trying her hardest to try and beat Junia. She frowned, quickly ducking out of the way so she didn't get the Orbis back at her. That would not be good. But she was pretty amused by how Junia reacted to her other spell. She would have been the same. But it was pretty amusing.
Although, she'd been a bit distracted by Junia's reaction, that she almost missed the other spell. She tried to think quickly, before her arms were caught up in the spell. "Finite" She murmured, quickly pointing her wand in the direction of the ropes. Oh that was lucky! That could have been the end of her, and that would just not have been good at all.
She frowned, knowing she needed to do something to try and end this. She needed to end it now, before she lost herself. "Herbifors" She cast just hoping it might throw Junia off

Junia didn't remember a time before this duel had started and she didn't see an end in sight, not when they both wanted the win so bad. It's what fueled her even as she felt herself growing tired. This much magic really did take a lot out of you. Pushing back her hair, she let slip a look of disappointment when her ropes didn't hold Hattie for long. She'd felt good about that spell and yet... Shake it off, Princess. On to the next.
It was a split second decision to let the spell hit her. She'd heard Hattie say it and she knew what it would do, how it might feel, but she needed to brave through it in order to attack the blonde when she wasn't expecting it. It was uncomfortable. Strange and somewhat amusing, but not unbearable and not enough to shake her. "Titillando!" She might not have looked intimidating what with the whole flowers growing from her thing, but her spell had weight to it. Intent. And just to be safe, she cast a Babbling Curse in the direction of the Hufflepuff. She was going to cover ALL her bases here.

| urine trouble | Pat's Strong Confident Other Half | Pees Like a Champion Unicorn Racehorse Now THIS is what he liked to see in a duel!
There was a strong sense of determination in the air, as if both girls were really putting all their efforts into this to try and win and Hirsch loved it. Really. A good duel was something he loved seeing and the fact that it was coming from two of his students was even better. It was a gentle reminder as to why he'd decided to go into teaching in the first place and not, say, being an Auror.
In fact, the man might have forgotten he was meant to be marking this while his eyes moved back and forth between the two girls as they cast spell after spell. It was nice, really, and he made a mental note to pair these two up a little bit more frequently. They were equally as good as each other and that's where the challenge lay. The duel, really, could go either way.
Exciting, wasn't it?
Unfortunately, when he did come to realise what he was meant to be doing, it was to find that in his excitement at seeing this duel progress, they had run a little overtime. So, without further ado, he struck up the shield and moved forwards towards the pair. "That was amazing! Very, very well done to the two of you. You've challenged each other and put the other through their paces and I'm very proud of both of your efforts today." And the extra practices showed, Miss Botros. "It was very close between the two of you but, Miss Botros, you've taken the lead. Congratulations! And well done on putting up an excellent fight, Miss Paton."
They were free to go.
And he should stop grinning. Stats: Harriet Paton: 59.13% Junia Botros: 59.4%
