Anyone who knows Hirsch wouldn't be surprised to find such a room up. Right next to the Dueling Arena is a room that's purely for those wishing to practice their self-defence techniques. After all, defending yourself doesn't just stop short at using a wand to do so.
The Defence Training Room looks pretty much like any other training room. Mats can be found on the floor, which should make it easier to crash land on, should you be unfortunate to do so. Need more, and slightly more cushioned, mats? Others can be found towards the back of the room. Running along part of the left wall are a series of boxing bags. While boxing is permitted in here, NO ONE is allowed to practice on another person. Please use the boxing bags provided.
Other, slightly smaller, items can be found here as well: such as weights and ropes and even dummies. The dummies are particularly useful for those who want to practice more Oriental types of self-defence. Or even those who want to practice their kicks and punches. However, do be careful of the ones that like to fight back.
Something that's not permitted in here? Magic.
OOC: Please make sure to comply with the SS and the School RPG Rules. Think of this room like a sort of gym. No outright action-movie fighting with another charrie please <3

Noelle breathed in its familiarity as she stepped into it. Ahhhh. One of her happy places. She carried her bag to its regular corner and dropped it. Next, she pulled her cloak and a variety of other pieces of clothes off until she was in her gear, which she smartly hid under her clothes.
Pulling her hair up, she headed to the mats to stretch and warm up. She should have brought a partner to help train today, but she kinda liked the quiet. She needed it to clear her head.

Shay rolled over onto her stomach and pushed her upper body up to stretch her back. She laughed at Noelle's kicking and punching comment. Ah, a kindred spirit. Moving back into a sitting position, she pondered her housemates questions. "Hmmmm. I suppose punching and kicking would be a good start. Maybe I'll do a little work with the hand weights after that."
Standing up, Shay listened as Noelle talked about the dueling club. It sounded like something she should probably become involved in, but for some reason, she was a little hesitant. "I will definitely give it some thought. It sounds like it would be helpful.". Any excuse to get in some extra practice.........it sounded like a win win.
Shay smiled when the conversation turned to dancing. It was her passion. "A little bit of everything really. I started out with ballet when I was little. It was good for teaching me technique, but it was a little too ........restrictive for me. Now I do mostly contemporary and a little jazz and hip hop sometimes. I love it because I can express myself and it kind of makes me feel free, you know? Realizing she had started to ramble, Shay headed toward one of the dummies. "So what do you like to do besides school work and prefect-ing?"

A simple jab to the dummy's shoulder was the first thing Noelle did. It was easy. It was a warm up.
She glanced over Shay's way as Shay contemplated joining dueling. Just to ease her into it more, Noelle added. "We could train together for it. And if that doesn't convince you... Hirsch. Professor Hirsch leads it." Ahem. Enough said. That man though.
Noelle gave a few more easy jabs and leg kicks to the dummy while listening to Shay. She gave a knowing grin when the girl rambled off about her passion. "You'll have to teach me how to dance... because I cant. many have tried, none have succeeded." She said with a grin and then a harder jab to the dummy, her warm up coming to a close.

She would see how well she was able to manage her school work and make a decision before the sign up deadline.
When Noelle said she couldn't dance, Shay smiled. "Of course you can dance. You just haven't had the right teacher yet. I saw your kicks. You have potential Ms. Summers." Shay wasn't kidding. She could see from the way Noelle moved that she could dance. She just needed to believe that she could.
Between kicks, Shay nodded in agreement, as Noelle discussed her busy schedule. "I can imagine ", she replied. It was hard enough for her to manage her time and she didn't have half the responsibility that Noelle did. Shay's eyes lit up at the mention of baking. "I can't bake very well, but I like to eat. So.....if you ever need someone to test your baked goods, I'm your girl." When the subject turned back to her, Shay thought for a moment. "Me? Besides dancing? I like outdoorsy stuff. Back home, there's not a lot of green. So here, I like to walk outside, see the trees and the lake. It's so beautiful. Like you, I like to spend time with my friends." Unfortunately she had to leave her best friend behind, but Shay hoped she'd have lots of new ones here at Hogwarts.

Shay, you have NOT seen Noelle dance. It was atrocious. Noelle would be the first person to prove Shay that not everyone could dance. She giggled though as she punched, making her punch lighter than she wanted to hit the dummy. "We'll see." She said winking at Shay before getting her grounds again to punch.
"Oh, Im still not a good baker. I'm much better at handing ingredients to my friends as they bake and eating the goodies. I do not have that talent." She said with a laugh and hit the dummy at precise moments. Talking and training. They were doing good.
She was from new York. How cool was that? "Elstree, England is my home. My family owns a large farm out that way. We've been there for... hundreds of years." Of course, that was her muggle part of her family. "My moms side of the family is from London. The lot of them." She grinned thinking about her favorite aunt who always said she wouldn't leave London.
"So I wonder if you'll know any of the Ilvermorny students that are coming." It would be cool if she did. Maybe she knew some of the competitors too.

Shay smiled a defiant smile. Noelle was convinced that she couldn't dance. Shay was determined to prove her wrong. She didn't say she could make her housemate a great dancer, but she definitely saw some potential there. The first step was getting her to believe that it was possible. That was probably the hardest task of all. "Yes, we will."
Throwing some more punches, this time in combination, Shay listened to Noelle talk about her home. "A farm.......that sounds lovely." She tried to picture it. Open space, lots of green and animals? "Is it a working farm? I mean, to you grow crops or have lots of animals there?". It sounded wonderful. Shay loved her home. She was a city girl though and through, but sometimes she longed for something different. She loved the outdoors and to be able to climb a tree or wade through a brook seemed like the best thing in the world. "And London. That's one of my favorite places to visit. Do you get there much?"
When Noelle mentioned Ilvermorny, Shay's expression changed for the briefest of moments. Her mind wandered off and she replied, "Yeah, maybe." The truth was, she hoped not. There was one particular Ilvermorny student that she hoped not to run across because...........reasons. Snapping back to the present, Shay's smile was back on her face. "This IMPS competition sounds like it's going to be fun. I wonder who will be chosen from our school."

Noelle missed home. She missed her family. She missed her brother. She missed her sister. She missed running through the fields with the dogs. She missed cuddling with her mini pig, Bob. She missed the lake out on the farm a bit away form everyone.
"Its a cattle ranch. We raised cows and then send them out." Noelle told Shay as she started a rhythm of punches to the dummy. Chest, neck, side. "It's fun. We have a lot of land. There's animals everywhere. My mom is a big... " She paused to take a breath before speaking again. "Is a big animal lover. So we have pigs, goats, dogs, and chickens that are pets."
Noelle wasn't facing Shay to see her expression when she mentioned Ilvermorny but she did feel that slight tension in the air. She glanced at her between punches and breaths. "You okay there?" She asked before Shay mentioned the competition. "Yeah! It does seem fun. I have no idea, but I hope they start something soon so people can enter.' She really wanted to get more information about it.

Shay stopped punching for a moment and went to grab a couple of hand weights. Then she began to make some punching movements while holding the weights. All the while, she was thinking of Noelle's cattle ranch. It made her think of the old west. Cattle ranches and cowboys. She had a mental image and wondered if it looked anything like the real ranch. At the mention of the menagerie of animals, Shay smiled. "I can't imagine growing up in a place like that.". A place that seemed about as opposite from her home as you could possibly get. "It sounds like heaven. I've always lived in apartment so.......no pets." Which was a total bummer because Shay really liked animals.
When Noelle asked if she was ok, Shay realized that she had been a bit obvious in her momentary.......whatever it was. "Hmmm? Oh yeah, I'm fine.". She was fine. As long as her mind stayed in the present, she was perfectly fine. But enough about that. The competition was a more exciting topic of conversation. "I hope it starts soon too. Are you thinking about entering?". Noelle seemed like the kind of person that would be good at whatever they put their mind to even dancing.

Taking Shay's lead, Noelle paused her punching and kicking to grab a sip of water before going and grabbing the weights. She started doing squats and punches with the weights. This move always hurt but always made her feel strong for some reason.
"It's so fun. Theres never a dull moment with animals." Noelle said between breaths. The squatting and punching could be hard. "One time, one of the calves learned to open the gate. We ended up having to get a lock on the gate because it kept letting out the cows." She laughed as she squatted again.
Noelle tried to imagine living in an apartment. Such a small place and no animals. That would have been so lonely. "That sounds boring." Noelle said honestly. She breathed out again as she punched several times in a row before squatting again.
"I was thinking about it actually." Now, if that was a good idea or not, who knew? "What about you?" Noelle could see Shay in the competition.

"It's so fun. Theres never a dull moment with animals." Noelle said between breaths. The squatting and punching could be hard. "One time, one of the calves learned to open the gate. We ended up having to get a lock on the gate because it kept letting out the cows." She laughed as she squatted again.
Noelle tried to imagine living in an apartment. Such a small place and no animals. That would have been so lonely. "That sounds boring." Noelle said honestly. She breathed out again as she punched several times in a row before squatting again.
"I was thinking about it actually." Now, if that was a good idea or not, who knew? "What about you?" Noelle could see Shay in the competition.
Taking a break from punching, Shay started to do some arm exercises with her weights. She couldn't help but laugh out loud when Noelle described her little calf opening the gate. "That is too funny. It sounds like that calf was pretty resourceful." Picturing the mass cow escape was hilarious.
Ah, apartment living. "Boring? Maybe.......sometimes. But New York is the most un-boring city ever. It's full of life, all the time. There's always something to do. It's noisy and crowded and.........it's home. So maybe a little boring isn't so bad after a day of chaos. I guess it's all about what your used to."
When Noelle said she'd thought about entering the competition, Shay nodded. "I bet you'd be good at it." Then without missing a beat, she added, "As long as there's no dancing involved.". Shay smiled at her housemate. "I'm jut kidding. I still think you could be good at that too." As for her, well that was another story. "I was thinking about it too, but I wasn't sure that a newcomer would be the best representative of Hogwarts." People might not exactly be down with that.

How long had it been since she had trained herself? Ava did eliminate her time in training room last year because she wanted to focus more on her OWLs. But then now it's over, and she would not face any important exams until next year so... It would be better to start it again.
The Gryffindor entered the training room and found that there was nobody else in this room. Although she didn't mind with the empty room, but it would be fun if she had a training buddy. Probably she should ask Noelle to train with her, but somehow that girl was nowhere to be found. She was a little bit concerned with the Gryffindor prefect but hopefully she was okay. Yeah, next time she would definitely ask Noelle to join her training, or probably Ava should join hers.

Today she was coming in a little earlier. Many students were back with their parents for the holidays and wouldn't be back for a few weeks, so she didn't have to patrol quite as frequently.

Sighing, she realized that it's been a long time she stop doing karate and she missed that. Probably the Gryffindor would be back joining the club once she graduated from Hogwarts. Too bad that they didn't have martial arts club here.
There was another person coming in when she's about to start with her punching. "Hello, Kitty." Ava giggled because it was like the name of a famous muggle cat fictional character with the pink bow and cute outfit. While this Kitty was... emo. Hehe, imagine if the Hello Kitty went emo with the dark (correction: all black) outfit. "Yeah, I am." She answered. "How are you? Still busy with the prefect stuffs?"

Noelle imagined Diagon Alley but only.... a lot more busier and crowded when she thought of New York. She'd never been there but had heard about it. Big city. "Is it like muggle London? New York? Are there parts of it hidden away for the wizarding world like here? Like diagon Alley?" Noelle asked, intrigued. She wiped her brow with her rag and took another sip of water.
"I don't think I am. I mean, I have prefect duties. I think I get enough attention as it is. I don't want anymore." A Gryffindor that didn't want all the attention on her. That was Noelle. She looked at Shay. She nodded a little at her response. "yeah... I mean... I can see why you think that." She tilted her head a bit. "I wonder whats going to be in the challenges and how exactly you would even prepare for it."
Was someone going to even help them prepare? Like an appointed professor. Ahem. Hirsch. "Hopefully they don't get too crazy with the challenges. And I know that River will be there for any healing duties that may be needed."

She raised her eyebrows slightly at Ava when she said, "Hello Kitty." As a fan of most things Muggle, she knew that Hello Kitty was the name of a cute fictional cat. And no, she was not offended at all.
"Well now we're not as busy as we usually are because of the holidays," she answered, getting down into a mat and shifting into a Yoga stretch. She held her arms out in a bent fashion, turning her right foot into her left calf and allowing her arms to sway like a tree. "We'll be busy soon enough though."
She brought hand out in front of her and closed her eyes, inhaling. Then she opened them and got down on her hands and knees. "So, um...what have you been up to recently? How are the Gryffindor's?"

You guys have to deal with them too, right?" The Gryffindor girl didn't say that those visitors were troublesome or something but sometimes a few of them didn't really behave nicely. But she hadn't heard about the chaos that created by them, except one time at their welcoming day with the radio thing and acting like they owned this place.
"I am good." Ava said. "It's been quiet an easy year, thankfully." She was kind of relieved that not being selected for being a Gryffindor representative so Ava could face her sixth year with ease. "And the Gryffindor... I think we are good too, still adjusting with Marchand being our head of house and he's..."Being a downer. But she wouldn't tell Kitty that. "... doing alright." Yeah, that's possibly a good answer. It's not that Ava disliked the Charms professor, he could be a great Head of House but that man just let himself down.
"I didn't know you're practicing yoga." She said as Kitty started doing some kind of yoga stretch.

She nodded when Kitty mentioned about their job watching the Ilvermornies too, slightly raised her eyebrows when the Ravenclaw mentioned about Rooney. What did the Head Boy do? Ava wanted to ask her because she's soooooo curious about that. But well, maybe it was the prefects' business that the other students should've not known. "But some of them are kind of rude, though." The Gryffindor just put two knuts about the guests. She haven't interacted very much with them though, it was just her observation. The idea of visiting them back was such a good idea, though.
Ava shook her head. "No, I've never done before. I don't think I am that flexible doing the poses." She chuckled slightly. Plus, yoga didn't seem like her kind of sport because she's being used to do mixed martial arts and karate.
