| | DADA Lesson One - Zombies, Mummies and Inferi, oh my! For those attentive enough to the notice the change of location will find themselves wandering out to the grounds instead of the first floor of the castle. For those who missed the change in location, well, luckily for you, there's a sign on the classroom door that tells you where you need to go. Hope you're not fussed with walking back downstairs again.
The new setting of this Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson happens to take place on an empty area of land near the lake. The weather is cold, with ice and snow clinging to every surface in your surrounding area. The only indication that you're going the right way happens to be the sight of a roaring fire and, if you squint, a certain bearded Defence Professor.
At a certain distance from the fire, where you can see the man properly, you start to feel the warmth of the fire itself. Looking around, you can see various logs dotted around the fire, each covered in some form of blanket or cushion. The setting almost seems as though you're about to sit in a campfire and toast marshmallows, rather than a Defence lesson.
Surprised? You might be.
Hirsch, who's dressed in warm clothes, is sitting on one of the logs, looking completely at ease with himself, almost as though this was a regular occurrence. Behind him sits a bunch of large blocks of ice which, if you look closely enough, seem to be surrounded by a hazy pale blue outline. For good reason too: a flood wasn't in the man's plans for this lesson.
Those curious enough could go ahead and try to touch it but be warned: the shield surrounding it likes to ZAP at you, if you do.
So come in, grab a log to sit on and wait for the lesson to start. class progression: - Between a mummy, a zombie and an inferi, which creature would you like to face? And why?
- What are the differences between a mummy, a zombie and an inferi?
- Mini Activity: Grab a firesuit and practice the Ring of Fire spell!
- Main Activity: Time to make ice sculptures!
- That's all, folks! OOC: Please make sure you're familiar with Hirsch's rules as well as the SS site rules before posting. Class will continue tomorrow (late eveningtime GMT) Hope you have fun! ^^ |

| Main Activity #2 Dani's Citrus Duck Spawn | Mama Giraffe | Lemon PATch | Pushed the Red Button "I like intricate." In these cases, at least. Depth and fine corners and detail were so much more important when it came to creation and not things like... complicated adolescent drama or something. Nicholas preferred all his complexity concentrated in one area, thanks.
The freckled teen had just started carving a pillar from the middle of the block down when Liv exclaimed about her progress, causing him to jump a big and burn a big streak across his side of the block. Merlin. Maybe he could use that as the awning line, then? "I knew you would get it! Easy, isn't it?" Surely, it must have been even simpler for him than it was for her.
Gryffindors and fire. They went together.
Now, he had to channel the hard work of his house rather than the fiery nature of hers to fix the entirety of the mess he'd created. "Lustro Circulus." Whip.
Merlin, his time was running out. How soon could he scrap this up?

| Post 3: *oops* Zombie Apocalypse Team Leader ★ ★ in a crown of pepperoni and artisan cheese She'd done it...SHE'D DONE IT!.... Man, now the blonde lion!lady couldn't wait to get in a clearing so she could let loose with this spell. It was true what they said...about only needed small successes to encourage better performance. Because now, she felt confident enough to have a real go at this ice. Like...so much so that perhaps she needed to work on her own? so that she didn't accidentally ruin her friend's. But...then again...she was probably only doing it at all since the Hufflepuff was motivating her. Obviously, a building wasn't the most exciting thing, but...You know, it could be cool.
Waiting for him to move his arm, just in cause, Olivia narrowed her eyes, concentrating on the block of ice. Subtle fire whip. SUBTLE FIRE WHIP......SUUUUBTTLLLLLEEEE...
With (what she thought) was a reserved whipping motion, Liv spoke the spell loud and proud, "Lustro Circulus," the fire...bursting out in a wave. A wave. Not a whip. OH NO....Trying to redirect it so it didn't singe the ice block, the blonde failed drastically, taking off the entire front face of the slowly forming building..........
Um.....um.....
All Olivia could do was stare and blink. STARE AND BLINK.

| Main Activity #3 Dani's Citrus Duck Spawn | Mama Giraffe | Lemon PATch | Pushed the Red Button Time was definitely running out, but Nicky did construction projects on deadlines all the time. Plus, he had a very able partner in crime this go around. Not nervous at all (what was Hirsch going to do if they didn't finish? Melt their ice? Please), the sixteen year old continued to carve his awning.
The streak he'd accidentally burned across the block, with the speed at which he'd jerked his arm, proved to be a lot straighter of a line than would have been made if he'd actually been trying. "Lustro Circulus!" A whipping motion from the very same arm resulted in a slightly larger loop of flames, which did justice to the awning he'd imagined. It was perfect.
Glancing at his watch, Nicholas decided that the three minute mark left him just enough time to etch out the pillars. But just as he was starting on their forms, they started dripping. What? Was his fire too thick? He tried to slow the swell ebbing from his wand, but their block had already been reduced to a puddle. And on the other side was... Liv and her wave of flames.
Hah. He grinned at her a little sheepishly. "You definitely have that spell down." Definitely. Good thing that's what they were being marked on (hopefully), because their sculpture was nothing more than water now.
But it was a pool of the highest caliber, if he did say so himself.

| urine trouble | Pat's Strong Confident Other Half | Pees Like a Champion Unicorn Racehorse Puddles were to be expected and he didn't judge any of the students who couldn't sculpt something out of ice. It was something that he had a vague feeling would happen and so, was the reason why he chose this particular location to hold the lesson. The snow might be mush at this point but any remaining water would simply flow down into the lake itself and freeze over the top.
He walked amongst them, pausing to look closely at some sculptures every now and then. It was interesting to see the figures that the students had tried to produce here, with some going for artistic finesse and others going for a more wet puddle look. Again, not judging.
As for Jessa Cambridge, she got a bit more of a response from him. "Sure. Drop by whenever you want." He had a funny feeling he knew what this might be about. After all, this lesson was very close to her area of interest.
Time? He glanced down at his watch before placing a finger and a thumb between his mouth and letting out a loud whistle. "And time's UP! If you could cease any fire spells and step away from your sculptures, please." Just so that he could have a proper look without fear of being burnt. "I have to say, that was an excellent contribution to the lesson and I'm glad you all tried to make something out of the ice. I'm afraid, that's all we've got time for today. Place your firesuits back in the box and start packing up your things. Homework will be posted on noticeboards shortly." Yes, that was a thing. "And with that, you can go!"
Smile.
Haraldur was going to get a nice batch of early birthday presents, it seemed. OOC: EEEEEEEEEEE!
Thank you all so much for coming and participating! Whether you took part in one part of the lesson or the whole thing, it still means a lot to me. So thank you! I hope you guys had fun
I'm going to leave this tread open for 24 hours if you want to post your charrie leaving ^^

| I started on this earlier and still want to post. It's ok if I don't get credit ^_^ Unforgivably Cursed | adultescent The Ring of Fire spell was definitely in Henry's top ten of coolest spells. In fact, he didn't even mind the bulky fire suit as long as he could keep practicing whipping a lasso of fire out at the lake (not that he probably would have minded anyway). And he was about to attempt it non-verbally too when Hirsch called the class to attention again.
He supposed he could continue practicing as they were allowed to, especially since he certainly hadn't mastered it yet, but the prefect was actually more interested in what their main activity was going to be. Because they'd probably still be using this spell, right?
Huh. Interesting. Henry wasn't sure he had that much control over this spell yet that he'd actually be able to carve anything recognizable out of a block of ice, so maybe he should have practiced more. But he'd give it a go. And he couldn't help but snicker at the nothing obscene comment which he quickly tried to cover with a cough. Nothing to see here; he was a mature adult.Cough. "Lustro Circulus!" he called out as he whipped a lasso of fire around his block of ice. He had thought about trying for a cat, though he knew the ears would be tricky. Relatively simple enough though, right? Especially once he had the basic form down... which... yeah, it was looking nothing like a cat once he had hit it with a few more Ring of Fire spells. But he kept going with it.
By the time Hirsch called for class to come to an end, his "cat" looked more like a disfigured troll. But he tried and he was starting to have a better handle on the spell. It was one that he would definitely want to practice more. Now that class was over. Henry put his firesuit away and gathered up his things. "Thanks, Professor. That was super cool!" He grinned and gave Hirsch an A-OK sign with his hand before heading out.

Viv was shocked that Professor Hirsch allowed Jessa to drop by whenever she wanted to.
Time flew by fast. She ceased her fire spell and walked away from her sculpture.
It was a great contribution to the lesson and she loved doing it. She was sad to leave but she had fun. She placed her firesuit in the box and packed up her things. She then awaited her homework to be posted. After that, she left the classroom.
