CoMC Lesson 2: Demiguise Do's It was a beautiful March morning and, though still a little brisk, the weather was quiet nice. Tristan, as usual, set up their class area in the pastures just outside of the barn. He set out the bales of hay in a semi-circle for everyone to sit on with the blackboard in front. As usual, the creature they would be working with was going to be a little bit of a surprise. |
Anyone! Okay so... maybe she liked the Professor's face a bit, but she also loved his taking on teaching about creatures as well. Both of those things. Not one more than the other. Nope. Never mind that she was a NEWT student and didn't exactly HAVE to take CoMC anymore. HEHEHE. Had everyone seen him, though? He looked like a Greek God, bro. He was amazing. SIGH. Of the dreamy variety. Stepping into the semi circle of hay the Gryffindor smiled at Wayland and waved as she made her way past. "Good Day, Professor Wayland," she said with a blush coloring her cheeks. No reason, ya know. N O R E A S O N. Keep it moving. And that she did. She kept it moving right past him and to a hay bale furthest from him so as not to be distracted by his beauty and charm. Where was Casper? HE was the MOST beautiful person in her LYFE. No really, where was he? Or someone else to distract her. Had everyone seen his smile? SWOON! |
CoMC was not only one of her favorite lessons, it was one of the most conveniently located lessons for the first year. Emmeline was able to come strolling leisurely out of the infant creatures nursery barn to the area where the lesson was held, which was a super nice change from the usual rushing she did to get from the nursery to her classrooms inside the castle. This class, Flying, and Herbology were the only lessons that she was guaranteed to arrive on time or early for because she spent as much time as humanly possible with her assigned cruppy, Sirius. Even if the break between lessons was only 10 minutes or something. The Gryffindor had to admit that she'd gotten in better shape this year, what with all that running back and forth and stuff. Professor Wayland had the class area set up with hay bales as usual, and Emmeline bounced over to a bale near the front and sat down to get ready for the lesson to start. She looked around for any sign of what creature they would be studying today, but nothing immediately stood out as different. Except Professor Wayland's chair...that wasn't really a chair. It looked like a couch for her. Were they going to have nap time with this new creature?! If so, it would probably be a cuddly creature and Emmeline LOVED cuddling with any creature that would let her. She gave the professor a big smile and called, "Hiiii, Professor! How are you today?" It would also be kind of funny if the professor fell asleep on his hay-couch-thing when it was usually students who fell asleep in lessons. Not that she'd ever fall asleep in this lesson, because creatures are the best ever, but she had maybe fallen asleep in Astronomy a couple of times. |
Ahahaha. It was Jonas' favorite class of all time. He walked down the hill to the 'classroom.' "Hey professor, want some juice to keep you awake?" Jonas offered. |
Even given recent events, there was absolutely no reason at all that Stasya wouldn’t have shown up for CoMC. It involved creatures, so that meant she was going to be there. Besides, she still was bound and determined to make sure the unicorns were okay. Maybe Professor Wayland knew, if he helped keep an eye on the forest creatures. It was possible…but for now she kept her questions to herself, as she walked out of the barn from her usual visit to Dobby in plenty of time for the lesson. Seeing Emmeline coming out of the nursery didn’t surprise her either. Honestly, that was her next stop, after the lesson. Every visit was figured out in her head, whether or not she managed to keep to the schedule. “Good morning Professor Wayland,” she greeted him, making her way over to sit next to Emmeline on the hay bale near the front. Even as she’d also tried to see if there was any clues about what creature they’d be studying on the professor’s mug. Or any clues about the lesson at all. Hay bales didn’t tell her anything. She wanted to know, even if she had no reason to doubt that whatever creature they were studying was going to be cool. Plus, it helped her with her goal to prove that she could be trusted with the creatures. Maybe enough that she’d be trusted with her very own winged horse eventually. Obviously she could handle little creatures. Dobby and Albus proved that. |
Creatures. SIGH. The green eyed boy had no beef with them. In fact, he enjoyed the little ones he could get away with petting and not getting bit. Every trek down here though, he boy felt one of his lawyers should accompany him. In case he did get bitten, stung, trampled, swallowed, burned, kicked, poisoned, or something -- he'd be able to sue. Not for the money, of course. For his honor. Upon arrival, the Slytherin shot the professor a respectful nod. "Sunny day, professor." What hideous beast were they going to study today? Flopping on a random hay bale, Cornelius shrugged his cloak off and rolled up the sleeves of his white uniform shirt. Lawyer or no lawyer, he was ready. |
Shay took the long way around to the pastures. It was such a nice day, she wanted to prolong her hike and enjoy every minute of it. When she arrived for Care of Magical Creatures class, she was definitely in a good mood. Taking a walk around the grounds always left her feeling calm and relaxed. Besides this was one of her favorite classes. "Hello Professor", Shay said cheerfully. Glad that she was relatively early for class, she found an empty hay bale and sat down. Her spot was strategically chosen. From her bale, she could see all of the students as they arrived. She got out her supplies and sat back for a little people watching. Shay wondered what creature they would be working with today. The professor always made it hard to guess. |
If Care of Magical Creatures wasn't Katy's favorite class, it was at least one that she enjoyed and looked forward to attending. Maybe that was because she always hoped to steal a bit of fur or some scales to add to her ingredient collection, but also because it was just interesting. Plus, now that it was warmer, she didn't resent having to go outside so much. The blond Toussaint skipped down to the hay bales and selected one that seemed somewhat clean and not stinky and definitely comfortable. Perhaps not as comfortable as the professor's, but close. "Good day, Professor. I like your chair, sir. You know how to live in comfort no matter the setting, it seems." |
Unlike her best friend, Sam had no such problems with walking past the Professor with barely a second glance. He got a friendly "Good day, Professor," and a curious look at the one-armed sofa but that was about it. She was more interested in what they'd be studying today, and whether it might be important for OWLs. They were approaching way too quickly...plus, well, he was kinda old and not at all her type. Did that mean she thought of herself as having a type now? Huh. "Earth to Dora," Sam said with a laugh, plopping down on the bale next to the Gryffindor Champion. She dropped her voice. "Pretteh sure 'e's not the one we're meant to be studying..." |

Ooooh, demiguise! Etta looked more than a little excited. She really did enjoy this lesson so much.. the fact that they got to meet, study and interact with different creatures almost every lesson was a lot of fun, wasn't it? At least, she thought so. Her eyes widened slightly as a few of the creatures were now properly visible.. wow. They weren't supposed to be very dangerous, were they? She curiously looked at them for a few long moments before raising a hand to answer the professor's questions. Well, I've read that they can see the future.. so it's obviously not very easy to find them. As for the second question.. their hair can be used to make cloaks of invisibility.. right?" She noted down the questions quickly before waiting to see what answers her classmates came up with. |
Emmeline grinned at Professor Wayland when he returned her greeting and added, "I'm okay, Professor, thanks!" It was nice of him to ask after all. She was soon distracted by the lesson starting, the pretty blue lights, and the...DEMIGUISE!!! This was SO cool! She turned to look at Stasya and see what her friend thought of them, practically bouncing on their hay bale in excitement. Maybe too much excitement, actually, 'cause she almost missed the professor's questions. Questions she thought she knew the answer to! Emmeline raised her hand quickly, and offered up her answers: "Demiguise can see the future." She paused and then added, "Well..they can see the most likely future. Their hair is used to make invisibility cloaks like Miss Etta said, but it's also used to make invisibility potions maybe?" She wasn't sure about the potions, even though they'd used demiguise tincture to make invisibility potions waaayy back in September in Potions class. She couldn't remember if the tincture had been made from hair or...something else. Thinking too much on potion ingredients made from creature parts was a guaranteed way to dampen the Gryffindor's spirits, so she quickly refocused her attention on the demiguise in front of her. She could see one!!! He or she was so cute and cool-looking and she sent the demiguise a BIIG smile. She couldn't wait to interact with the awesome creatures! |
They'd be working with demiguise today!!!!! Yes, she was excited and yes, like the Professor, she had several questions. It was interesting the way they appeared like that and even more interesting the way they could see the most likely future. Honestly, the Ravenclaw wanted to know how they worked--like proper knowledge, not just that whole 'it's in their DNA' stuff because that was pretty standard and didn't really say much. Jessa remained where she was, transfixed by the creatures but marginally less attentive to the lesson that was going on around her. What mechanism made them invisible? What mechanism made them privy to the future? Would they be learning any of that today? As it stood, the Ravenclaw felt she may have needed to be jotting down her questions til the appropriate time because honestly, she needed answers and right now Professor Wayland may have been the only one capable of answering them. There was one question she was immediately interested in however. "I reckon it might be hard to catch one, yeah? D'you think their future sight could be used against them if you think it through carefully enough? I mean, they see only so far into the future, correct?"[/B] |
Melbourne looked around the barn and grinned when Professor Wayland brought up Demiguise…those creatures were one of Mel’s favorites ever. With their gigantic eyes well, when they were visible that is. Raising her hand Melbourne waited to be called on…”Professor, according to Newt Scamander’s Fantastic Beasts have Precognitive sight…that and apparently they are rather closely related to Ghouls and Hidebehinds.” Mel grinned, really, what she had wanted to say was that they were excellent babysitters…because, well, they always had that knack of knowing what could go wrong before it ever did go wrong. |
Stasya had sent Professor Wayland another grin as he’d responded to her greeting, but otherwise, she hadn’t said anything. She knew Emmeline knew she was there, even before the announcement that they would be studying demiguise in class and she’d turned to look at her best friend at the same time she had looked back. Another big grin and more bouncing. Excitement and still managing to pay attention. There was lots she knew about demiguise, but as she’d filtered through it in her head she’d fallen behind the others who had answered before her. The future stuff and the invisibility had been mentioned, so she had to think of something else. “It’s not really magical, but demiguises are good at taking care of other creatures too. Like a creature babysitter,” she said, hand raised high and a big smile on her face. “And also, there’s a creature called a hidebehind that’s related to demiguises too.” But the important stuff was the invisibility and the being able to predict things. And obviously invisibility cloaks that were made from their hair. |
Melbourne’s eyes widened in GLEE when she heard Stasya’s answer. She turned to look at the young Gryffindor girl a beaaaaaaaaming smile was already being shot in her direction. She had almost said that. THAT WAS AMAZING, really, she knew she had liked Stasya from the beginning of term but THIS just cemented the girl with a special label of AWESOME in her head. |
SS info type stuff. Okay do first... why did he have to grin at her like that? I made her tummy do funny things. Most noticeably, though, it made her face turn pinker. UGH. Stoppit, sir. Dimpled Greek God with perfect bone structure. So unfair. And then Sam happened! "Shhhhh! Sweet Circe, Sam! What if someone HEARD you, " the Gryffindor said in what could only be explained as a stage whisper. Much louder than her friend, you see. But seriously: WHAT IF SOMEONE HEARD. Oh the drama. But Adonis Wayland was speaking again so everyone had BEST be quiet. Ugh. And look at everyone showing off with their answers! GIVING ALL THE ANSWERS FOR HER PROFESSOR. The girl couldn't help but roll her eyes before raising her hand. "It is said that some of the newer wand makers have used it as a core. The hair that is. Also, it can be used in wand holsters it makes the wand invisible once it slips into the holster. The holster is also. " Hmph. Bet no one thought of THAT. And who cared if she had been super redundant with the word HOLSTER. Not her. Whatever. She wasn't blushing. Everyone else was. |
CoMC! Noelle had a natural way with animals. Probably because she lived on a farm at home. So CoMC was one of the classes she looked forward too. Not to mention the professor was just... yum. Heading out, she said the hay bale sofa and made her way to sit by Corny. "Hey" She said giving him a grin and then looking for the professor. She waved over at him. "Good day professor!" She said, her ears lightly pink. Then class was starting. Demiguise. She loved those little baby sitters. She nodded along to the invisibility cloak. She'd known that from another lesson. As for the wand core. Wow, that was cool. "Yeah I agree with the invisibility cloak and demiguise hair. It can be woven in to make it invisible, but it becomes opaque over time." Noelle added. |
Class had started and Shay had her quill and parchment ready. As the first question was posed, she began to think of her response. At the same time, Shay scribbled notes on the answers her classmates were giving. Ready to add her thoughts, Shay raised her hand. "The demiguise tends to become invisible when it feels threatened." A pretty nice ability to have, if you asked Shay. "Since they can be invisible and are able to predict the future, they can be hard to find, like Jessa said. If you want to catch one, you have to catch them off guard.......be unpredictable." Shay was definitely looking forward to working with a demiguise today. |
!!!!! They were going to be working with demiguises today? Henry already enjoyed CoMC, but now he was even more excited. Demiguises were so cool! He looked in the general direction of the lights were he assumed they were gathered and must just be invisible. Oh! And there was one starting to become visible.. and another... ! He watched them with interest as the question from the professor was posed and students began answering. Though he heard the answers, he was distracted enough by the creatures that he didn't offer his own answer right away, until.. yeah, everything that was said was what he already knew. He didn't have anything else to add so he continued watching the demiguises. How many more were there? Were there more invisible ones? |
Noelle. Cornelius grinned at her and sat back against the hay bale, but subtly straightened up when something caught his eyes. Leaning towards Noelle, he whispered, "I think your ears are blushing." LOL. He couldn't help it, and knowing the Slytherin, he hardly had a filter to keep his mouth shut. Green eyes wandered over to the professor and then back to Noelle. His eyes gleamed mischievously, a slight smirk tugging at his mouth. Were her ears blushing because of the professor? Well. In all honesty. Professor Wayland was handsome. Half of his attention turned towards the professor when the lesson began. Demiguise? Okay. Those things were MEAN when you accidentally punched them, okay? Cornelius had a history with them, and HAHAAHAHAHA. No. They had a mean knuckle sandwich. |
Jonas frowne . He considered himself an expert in creatures. He wanted to take care of them when he was older. But he never heard of a demaquese. He frowned and kept silent. |
Of course, Felicity's hand shot up into the air when Professor Wayland asked his questions, but it gradually sunk back down into her lap as people gave the answers she'd immediately thought of - after all, Demiguise's were insanely interesting, and she was silly to think she would be one of the only ones to read ahead. It didn't stop Care of Magical Creature's from being one of her favourite subjects, though, or from her brain going into overdrive trying to think of something else that might be of interest. What had she read? "Sir," she started, her hand in the air once again. "Their ability to become invisible is used in Runes, is it not? To symbolise the number zero?" The ending of Flick's sentence was hesitant, a question rather than an answer in itself. She'd read something about it, she was pretty sure. |
After flying with phoenixes and the other exciting lessons that Professor Wayland had for them this year, Skylar had to admit that Magical Creatures was quite the fascinating subject this year. It didn't hurt anything that Wayland had the face of an angel, which was evident by the numerous other Hogwarts girls who seemed to have taken notice of him this year. But seriously, he was really outdoing himself and it made her exhilarated to consider about what was to come. Well, no suspense then with the start of the lesson? Demiguises and the numerous Gryffindors (and females) present seemed to waste no time in sharing their opinions about their magical abilities. Aw, Felicity got props for mention about relating it to Runes. And how was it that her two favorite former Ilvermorny students seemed to understand Runes better than her? Clearly they were trying to be favorable in Hawthorne's eyes or their Ilvermorny education in their first three years just gave them that greater edge. "They're herbivores and found in the far east and only witches and wizards trained in their capture can see them." And that had nothing really do with magical abilities, well, maybe the second part, but it was different and not mentioned? |
"Demiguises!" she exclaimed quietly as some of the Demiguises appeared in front of them. She'd never seen a Demiguise up close before, though she'd seen moving pictures of them. They were so beautiful. They were really amazing creatures whose properties she knew some of. "They can predict the most likely outcome the future will take based on current events," she said, sounding maybe a little more textbook than she'd intended. "Also, their hairs can be used to make invisibility cloaks." Very useful, though she hoped Demiguises weren't harmed in the making of cloaks. "Can I take a quick picture?" she asked hesitantly. |
