Default Astronomy Lesson #2 | The Milky Way

Another night class was in store for the students this time around. It wasn't as late as it normally was, she thought 9 o'clock at night was the perfect time for a lesson. Walking into the classroom, Professor Berkovich charmed the ceiling so her and the students could see the Milky Way Galaxy, the desk in the classroom were formed into a circle as always. The Astronomy professor sat on the top of her desk with a big welcoming smile on her face. She was ready to get this lesson started. There really wasn't anything fancy going on in the classroom this evening.

OOC: Please remember to follow all of Professor Berkovich's rules and remember all SS rules apply! You're more than welcome to have your characters mingle before class starts.

Right…so that was how long it took their solar system to circle in orbit around the center of the Milky Way galaxy. Cassie hadn’t chanced a guess with that question but she copied the professor’s answer into her notes so she had the information at hand. Who knew if it or something about it was going to be on the OWLs at the end of term. When she was done, the fifth year followed Professor Berkovich’s direction to the activity she wanted them to do. The Ravenclaw now more aware of the reason for the charmed ceiling of the classroom…to ensure what she wanted to be seen, was actually seen.

Cass took out a clean sheet of parchment and wrote out the three celestial items on it, leaving enough space to diagram each individually. Then with her textbook open before her and the sky spread out above her, she proceeded to locate each named item piece by piece, her eyes constantly glancing between the charmed ceiling and her textbook as she worked. Eventually she was satisfied with what she had and laid down her quill beside her filled parchment.

SPOILER!!: Parchment

Orion Spur – Located in the southwest portion of the sky beneath the Sun
Perseus Arm – Curved outside the Orion Spur predominantly in the southwest quarter of the sky
Norma Arm – Curved beneath the Galactic Bar mostly in the north east quarter.

Of course, Vivian beamed again. Technically her answer was right, despite the lack of exactness, but it didn't matter because it was still right. And she was quite happy, too! So finally they were graduating from discussing numerical figures and moving on to...

What.

They were to locate those things on the board. The Slytherin's jaw dropped... then she closed it to avoid the silly fly from entering. Err... this was gonna be hard. She liked Astronomy class, yes, but it didn't always mean it was the easiest. The blonde sort of panicked on the inside a little bit before slowly taking out her textbook as her reference. Merlin, it was a good thing they were allowed to use it. She didn't know just how successful she'd be without a guide of some sort.

She was going to acquire neck strain soon. Vivian was sure of it, but she tolerated the cramp on her neck and scribbled the locations on her parchment. Hmm... maybe Professor Berkovich would allow them to stargaze later. That would have been fun, if she didn't fall asleep lying around at least.
Text Cut: Vivian's parchment
Orion Spur - The closest of them all to the Sun
Perseus Arm - Located just a bit outside the Orion Spur
Norma Arm - Between the Scutum-Centaurus Arm and Galactic Bar
